Title: DarthSinister's Customs
Post by: DarthSinister on September 12, 2011, 07:58:24 PM
Hi all.
I've been working on a few things here and there, mostly head sculpts, and I was itching to post so I figured I'd post a WIP I'm working on.

This one, UNFORTUNATELY, was too late for the Dark Lords Contest. That is what I was originally making him for.  This is one of my own design originating from my comic covers in the Fan Art section. He is Naga Raja, his bio can be found there, in Fan Art.

I'm using Fix-It Sculpt for his body details. The head is an original sculpt from Sculpey Firm in the likeness of Boris Karloff. Who better for a Dark Lord?!

I hope to have him done soon. I'll post pictures as I go.

P.S.: I'm trying really hard to improve the picture taking technique.  ;D

I have so much respect for anyone attempting sculpting, it's one peg higher than most will go, and it's so fantastic to see these WIP shots.

Your sculpting is fantastic.  I'm super impressed.  I sculpt my figures too, so I know the work that went into this.  I'm looking forward to seeing him finished, but you are already off to a killer start.

Uh Oh... Sithfire better watch out!!!

That's turning out to be a real awesome looking figure. I love the evil head too. Cant wait to see this guy finished.  As for pics, if you have a decent camera, make yourself a light box, you can google it and it isn't hard, or do like I did and take the easy way out and buy one. I went to my local Wolf's camera store and bought one. They had a couple different kind there. Once you get one, with the proper lights, it makes one heck of a difference. Keep us updated.

Charles, I am so excited to see you at work again! That head sculpt is amazing and you can put me down for one when you get going again. The chest piece you have sculpted is just awesome! Is that an old Elizabeth Swan torso you sculpted over? You have really got the fix-it figured out, I wish I could sculpt this good! The small details are so nice! Great update buddy.

Thanks everyone!

I hope to have him done soon. We'll see...

Thanks for the "FRONT PAGE" Tamer! It's a lot of fun to get on there!

Sorry to see you're taking a break OrangePeace. I just started following your customs here and on the Scum. Hope you get back in the game soon.

Hey Rich, thanks buddy! That is a sculpted head. I've got a few more I've done in the past weeks. I've got to get on the bodies for them now.

Thanks CloneHead, I'm going to try to pull a cast of that chest plate. I modeled it after a photo of Samurai armor.

Hey HangarBay I'm gonna take a shot of the tools I use soon and post em'. It's fairly easy to sculpt if you have the right stuff.

Thanks DD. Sculpting is the best part. The hardest part of doing a head , to me, is the eyes. Very difficult to work both sides proportionately.

Yep Joe, I've been wanting to build a box but haven't had the time. I want to try to do a box with a changeable floor and background. Soon it will be done.

Thanks SITH, I hope to get'r done soon!

LC_S_B thanks my friend! Love your stuff too, you're building quite a name for yourself!

Thanks LE, that torso is from a Prince of Persia figure. Don't know which one though. As soon as I'm "totally satisfied" with the Boris likeness I'm going to mold it, then cast him in Caucasian flesh color. I'll let you know when he's done.... just wait till you see the likeness of Lee Marvin I've done. Let's just say I'm extremely happy with it!

Thanks again everyone!

Thank you WraithNine! He is quite ugly, I call him a "Bull Hutt". I can see him being from a more arid region of Nal Hutta and Jabba from the swamps.

Thanks Tamer and thanks for the FP!

Thanks a bunch Jedi1977. I really don't want Sith in the new Episodes, I think they're done for now. Aliens and Mandos can be just as much a threat. Who's to say there arent some Darksiders among them, after all we still need Saber battles.

I'm posting some WIP pics from this guy. He was a lot of fun to make.

Figure in it's original state.

Disassembled Jabba figure. I cut away the back of the head from the tail's motion wheel.

Screws to re-enforce a FixIt "dome base".

Checking the fit of the FixIt "dome base" prior to curing.

Ball socket insert for FixIt "dome base".

Ball socket insert installed in the "dome base". Because the original figure had limited torso turning this application allows the figure to be fully turned to the side or "laying position" and still retain the tail movement.

Lacquer system Model Masters primer.

Head sculpting in Sculpey Firm for fine detail. I would not normally finish this head with paint. I would mold it and cast it in one peice for strength, but because this was done in one weeks time I'll wait to cast it and finish it instead.

Some of the tail sculpting started using FixIt Sculpt.

Original peg was cut off of the arm. Holes were drilled and ball joints were installed using FixIt as glue.

Arms now pop on and off with ease and have more pose ability than the original swivel peg.

Ball joints were all purchased from ISY sponsor The Big Bad Toy Store.

Vallejo acrylic Model Colors used for the paint apps, final spray with Testors "Dull Coat" and a drop of Crystal Clear casting epoxy was put in each eye to give a "wet look".

That's it in a 'nut shell'.

Thanks for sharing the process that went into your build here. Man, a lot more work went into this thing than I thought! How do you like working with those ball joints? I have seen others use them on figures and have always wondered about them. As Shawn has said, you took one crappy piece of plastic and turned it into a masterpiece! I love the design and sculpting work you have done. Paint aps look great as well, he is one rough and tough looking joker!

Thanks LE. I wanted this figure to be functional as if purchased off the shelf. I wanted the arms to work better. That original swivel joint had to go. The figure was from the deleted ANH scene and was only pose-able in the "crawling" perspective because that was Jabba's only position in that scene. I wanted this guy to be able to lay on his side too. That's why I put the work into the joint in his head. The original wheel was only able to turn about a quarter of it's circumference. That ball-joint allows the torso to pivot independently, while it's tight fit drags the wheel mechanism.

The Ball joints are handy. So far this was the first time I've used them and I'll say they work fine on larger figures. I haven't tried them on the "typical" human sized figure yet but I can already see something I want to try. When I mentioned the joints tight fit for the torso, up there, that was a happy accident. You see, when the ball is put into the socket, the socket expands a bit. BUT if you sink the socket into FixIt and let it set, it can't expand creating a tighter fit. ALSO rough-up the ends of the joints so that the FixIt can hold it in. If you don't the joints will slip out of the cured FixIt.

I got a few different kind of joints I just need to figure them out. They're in Chinese packaging and there is a microscopic diagram on how to assemble them but I don't own a microscope.

I'm still wanting to cast that head though. I want to try a version with a magnetized torso instead.

Truly amazing rebuild. Had to get this on the front page.

Thank you much Tamer. I saw the facebook page too thank you.

Impressive! I need to get into sculpting more.

Thanks Wiloughbian. The FixIt is really easy to use but a little trickier to manipulate. If you mix too much throw it in a ziplock bag and put it in the freezer. When you're ready to use it again, warm it up in your hands and it will return to it's last state.

Thank You dr0d. I always hated that figure and now it's sitting on my desk.

Those ball joints are pretty handy, but BBTS makes it really hard to find them. It also looks like they've reduced their stock a little. I would assume because no one buys them cause they can't find them.

They have them listed under scratch building and customizing but here is a link:  http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/search.aspx?search=customizing&page=1 (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/search.aspx?search=customizing&page=1&utm_source=site&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=ImperialShipyards)

Also do a google search for the company that produces them which is HOBBY BASE BALL JOINTS and you can click around on the pics and possibly find another supplier since BBTS is reducing their stock. Here's another link:    https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1366&bih=609&q=hobby+base+ball+joint&oq=hobby+base&gs_l=img.1.1.0i24l10.2306.6219.0.9209.10.10.0.0.0.0.159.1237.0j10.10.0....0...1ac.1.42.img..0.10.1211.80_aEEWN9Fs#imgdii=_ (https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1366&bih=609&q=hobby+base+ball+joint&oq=hobby+base&gs_l=img.1.1.0i24l10.2306.6219.0.9209.10.10.0.0.0.0.159.1237.0j10.10.0....0...1ac.1.42.img..0.10.1211.80_aEEWN9Fs#imgdii=_)

A quick update on some of my customs.

I've finished the heads for two of my WIPs. They're done in Sculpey and will be molded and cast in plastic resin in a flesh color. No sculpting or painting has been done yet.

I'm sure a few of you figured out I'm finally doing some MARVEL characters. I'll be putting my own spin on them though. This is how I feel they could translate to today's audience... Sinister style.

These are masterful sculpts.

Thanks for all those links.   I'll shop around and find the best price for the double ball joints.  BBTS has the best price, but as you warned, "Currently Out of Stock" is a recurring theme.  There are dozens of sellers on Amazon based in Asia, but the prices are not outrageous.   I'm not in a hurry, but I am very intrigued.

I've bought figures from China sellers and had no problem. I hope that helps a little. I started off with a small test run order and it was perfectly fine.

And here is my entry for the EU contest this month along with WIP pics! Hope you guys dig em".

Bounty Hunter SNOOVA

First up is a photo of my armor making process. Here you can see the original Fix-It Sculpt piece over the foil covered clay mannequin. It's grey in color because of the primer it's been sprayed with. Next on a clay base in an uncompleted LEGO mold frame. Next is the mold with the original still on it and a few castings in black laying around. Last is just a visual on how flexible the plastic is after curing.

Wow! Now that was some effort you put into this upgraded Snoova. I loved SOTE. Your custom is hand down such an improvement over the original figure. I can't even imagine how many of these would sell if they were released like this. Just an awesome job. Look for this one on the front page.

Thanks Tamer. This one, where it looks fairly strait forward, was a lot of work. The armor alone took at least 4 or 5 days to complete the sculpting and then the molding process was about 3 days. I did a two part mold and cut the armor out which made it a three part. I'm really getting into the multi-part molds. They take longer, especially if you methodically make them that way, but there well worth it in the end.

I was actually thinking about selling this one on my e-bay account. The only thing that's stopping me is the fact that I used Fix-it Sculpt for some of the body add-ons. I like to get those parts as scale to the figure as possible and in the end that makes them thin and brittle. I would hate to sell something to someone that is delicate. I would usually cast those parts in plastic which makes them more durable. I may go back on a few things and sure them up and put him up for auction.

I had that Chewie figure from back when the SotE was on the shelves in the late 90s, and it's one of my all-time favorite figures. This is a MASTERFUL update to the character! Bravo!

Man, thanks buddy! He actually looks ten times better in person. I wish you guys could see him in person. At this moment he is standing next to my Borga the Hutt and they look great together.

Thanks Barmic. I loved doing the Snoova he was a lot of fun.

Zit and Gog are the two kit-bashes you're referring to and they are my favorites out of that bunch too. A little inside info that makes them even better is that Gog, as big as he is, is terrified of Zit. Zit is a vicious little bas---d and bullies Gog constantly. Some say it makes him feel taller.   ;D

Been steady working on an update. I finally got one of the Pirates done.

This is a Crimson Jack re-boot. If some of you don't know who Captain Jack is he was the first EU character in the Star Wars Universe given to us by MARVEL comics in October of 1977. If you've never seen his original incarnation it was a bit ridiculous. Often when I read this as a kid I used to wonder if the colorist simply forgot to color Jack's legs blue/black like the rest of him. After a while you realize this dude's got no pants. Why would a guy go into space without pants? Like Padme said to little Anni "space is cold". Yikes.

Here's a look at his original design and the inspiration for this custom.

Jack was a Pirate Captain. The 'Crimson' came from the color of his hair I assume. He and Han Solo had a past so Crimson Jack knew his tricks and in the first issue after the adaptation of ANH, Jack robbed Solo of his reward. Crimson Jack also had a cool Pirate ship. He had converted a Imperial Star Destroyer into his own personal Marauder. Here is my own interpretation of his ship with a cool symbol of my own design cause every Pirate needs a flag. This is what Han Solo may have seen through the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.

Here's the re-boot figure for Captain Jack...

First up is Jack in his Pirate Raider Gear for space walks.

And here he is before assembly and paint apps. I originally showed my wip with a coat. That was going to be an extra accessory but I had to scrap it because of difficulty making it easily removable. Maybe next time.

The helmet is hand sculpted, molded and cast in soft flexible plastic. The neck compression ring is a cast of TCW Anakin space helmet's bottom ring (minus the bubble). The vest is a re-cast of the Death Star Engineer's with pauldrons added and a magnet inside the back. The Jet pack is a re-cast of the Spacetrooper pack with a magnet added. The head is an original sculpt cast in flesh color and yes, Jeff Bridge's Obadiah Stane was the inspiration. Below the waist is Willrow Hood, Torso is Black Beard from Pirates of the Caribbean, arms and gloves are Hoth Han Solo.

Hope you all like em'!

I love what you've been able to do on your Crimson Jack: wow!  Looks great as a figure and excellent choices for the parts---especially loving the use of the Dr. Evazan torso...perfect!

Moving away from the "He-Man" styled clothing that he wore in the Marvel comics and replacing it with more mature gear could not have been too easy, but the look turned out well.  I love the use of that cast head sculpt (and your paint applications are very nice).

I have had great difficulty in finding time for my own customs over the past year, and I've been missing from these boards for some time, but lately I've found myself checking back in as often as I'm able just to see what figure incarnations/digital customs you have up your sleeve.  Keep these great ideas coming!

Thanks Merc. The torso is actually Black Beard from Pirates Of The Caribbean. It's funny you said Evazan though because after I was well under way with this one I looked at Evazan and thought I could have used that torso. But after all I think Black Beard worked the best. I wanted him to have a kind of pot-bellied look and that torso matched well with the Willrow Hood portly-ness. I did have to do a lot of work to get it to work with the Hoth Han arms though. Black Beard was a pivot style shoulder so I custom made the Han arms ball-joint connector and cupped out the "arm pits" so that the 'ball' of the joint rested inside. I also replaced the Knee ball-joint connector with a custom cast one in black. That's my solution for the scraping off paint on that part that plagues everyone.

Thanks buddy! Jolli is a tough one. I think I'm going to re-cast the entire torso of the figure in flesh so it will look right. I just pulled her head cast in flesh tonight and she looks great! I'm very happy with the head sculpt for her and Jack. They look great in the grey clay but in flesh they look so much better. I was just looking at her under a magnifier and discovered that she's also a dead ringer for Maggie Greene from AMCs The Walking Dead. I'm sure I'll cross her over for that because I want to do some TWD stuff.

Here is my entry for the 2014 ISY Birthday Challenge. The theme was the ULTIMATE Action Figure so I decided to do one of my top favorite Star Wars characters from my favorite Star Wars film. This is the ULTIMATE "Empire Strikes Back" Han Solo.

This ultimate Han Solo features a light-up mini figure stand, Han Solo frozen in Carbonite block, many different configuration possibilities and 16 accessories.

Han's trousers are from the VC Bespin Han and feature ball-hinged hips. The lower legs are from the LC Cloud City Wing Guard and have been painted to match. His Hoth trousers are parted from the SL Hoth Han and the upper legs are from a G I Joe FireFly giving this incarnation ball jointed hips. The original plastic skirt was cut away and a Quinlan Vos soft goods skirt was added and painted to match giving the newly hinged hips freedom to move. Han's shirt was taken from a POTJ Bespin Han. An elongated neck-peg cast was added and the hollow torso was filled with a soft Smooth-On plastic and arm and waist peg receivers are molded in. His Hoth coat, also taken from the SL Hoth Han has been modified with a neck peg cast to receive a regular head.

Han is ready to fight off Mynock above. His arms are from the VC Bespin Han giving him full pose-ability and his removable jacket is again from the POTJ Bespin Han. The Hoth Han head from the Saga Legends line has been hollowed out to snugly fit the modified neck peg.

Ready to do some repairs to the Falcon, Han is outfitted with a VC Echo Base coat and arms. The arm's original shoulder pegs have been removed by slicing one side of it's holding shaft and new ones are added from a cast of the SL Hoth arms, standardizing the pegs to the other arms. A tiny dot of Gorilla Glue is added to the holding shaft and it's as good as new.

The lighted base casts an amber glow on poor Han as he is being frozen in Carbonite. The base is a Home Depot drain filled with an amber/clear resin and lit with a puck light. Han sports yet another pair of arms borrowed from a VC ANH Han. His gun belt is removed and a filler belt is added. The belt is from an LC Jeremoch Colton hollowed to fit and painted to match. The Carbonite Han is from the POTF collection. The face has been re-sculpted with Fix-It and a back has been added to the block. It's been entirely re-painted for a more accurate look.

This figure kit's 16 accessories round Solo out. They include:
Folded Down Hood
Snow Goggles
Neckerchief
Hoth Binoculars
Hoth Scanner
Welding Mask
Welding Goggles
Welding Torch
Breather Mask
2 Mynock
Gun Belt
Filler Belt
Blaster
Hand Cuffs
Arm Shackles

This guys got a lot more combinations by using different legs and torsos, jackets and gear! This is what I'd like to see Hasbro put out as a standard.

Unfortunately I didn't get to finish his Hoth hat and hood that were going to be two separate removable pieces. Also the Han in Carbonite was going to get lights as well but I just didn't have time. This is my final entry. I hope you all like him!

BTW, I cant believe I missed that Snoova presentation.   What excellent casting techniques!  Did you sculpt that armor too?   O0. Outstanding.

DS, this is absolutely some of the best work done on any of the key characters from the OT.  With Han being as popular as he is, I'm actually surprised that more people haven't attempted something like this (though I'm not sure they'd have come up with such a great product, as you've done here).

The knee caps on Hoth Han look seamless: excellent work fusing the GIJoe legs to the Hoth boots...can't even tell they're different parts from figures of a different line.  I love everything about the figure mods and the setup, but my absolute favorite piece here is the idea to use the drain as a stand for the carbonite block.  As soon as I saw it, I had to check your posts to see how you got this done...tremendous idea!  (door slams...car starts up...Garmin begins stating quickest way to Home Depot... ;)  )

I have absolutely enjoyed your virtual customs over the past year and this is just a glimpse---I hope---of some great work on actual figures that we can expect to see from you in the future!

Thank you Fiala. Here are some close-ups of the sculpting work for my 6" Crimson Jack. Most of the work is done using Sculpey. The jet pack has elements of Aves Fixit sculpt. The idea here is an update for the old Marvel character from the 70's. Space helmet and jet pack are for pillaging disabled star ships. The pirates will sometimes jump into space and cut through the hull of a ship. The gun belt is made from "fun foam" from the craft store. It works great!

Hi all! I've got a few progress pictures on Crimson Jack. I still need to do some touch-up paint. Removable coat is done. Jet pack is going to have to be re-worked. The mold came out wonky and it wont cast correctly. The jet pack is also unpainted as is the space helmet. The space helmet and Jack's head are original sculptures, molded and cast in Smooth-on Smooth Cast 325. Still working out some casting issues... (I hate casting), but all will be good with lots and lots of patients.

Last photo is a Mando head I'm working on. Not happy with this one. Might re-work it soon. All are 6" scale.

Thanks Starchaser. That head is a test run on my mold. It had a few bubbles at the bottom in the back, but I had to see what it looked like painted. This one is the first sculpt. I actually did a second but I didn't like it as much. Even my wife said this one looked a little meaner.

Just like Hondo and Jabba, Jack has a pirate pet. No not a parrot! A monkey lizard of coarse! This is not in the comic. This is my own design. His name is Zim Zim Tickbite.

So I've never been happy with anything Hasbro offered. I've got the Sideshow version. It looks great, but it doesn't move. Well, when all else fails make it yourself! The head sculpt is my own (of coarse). The head is one piece the ears are separate and have to be glued on. This is a plastic cast. I've molded the head and the tail. The body is an altered (Clone Wars) Geonosian. I'm going to attempt to mold and cast the rest of the body... that's 20 parts. Yikes! If they come out good and give me few problems I may sell copies. Keep your fingers crossed. I've still got to sculpt up his furry collar but here he is in the early stages. Let me know what you think!

Another preview! You know who. I can't do MARVEL Star Wars without Jaxxon. Here are the beginnings of my 6" version. He's coming out awesome! Original Head sculpt! It's two pieces, the head and the ears. They're awaiting mold rubber from Smooth-on. The calves and feet are also an original sculpt. Three pieces each. The calves, the joint peg and the feet. They have already been molded and what you see is a plastic cast that fits the Bossk body perfectly... and the joint works very well. Cassian arms and a fun foam gun belt. The one he's wearing is a prototype blank for general fitting purposes.

I saw L.e. Spry mention it the other day, there a new head now. He still has a ways to go. Let me know what you think. I'll keep the updates coming.

Also. Last photo I gave him a photoshop paint job to see where were going with this guy.

Howdy all! Just finished up a commission for a customer, thought I'd share.

This is Jedi Knight Ma'kis Shaalas as he was see in the "PURGE" comic series. This one was a lot of fun to create. Cloud Car Pilot torso and arms and waiste down is Fi-Ek Sirch. Aves sculpt was used on the torso and the knee armor. Various paint techniques were applied. Collar attached and and small cape was made. The cape is removable. Custom head sculpt was created, molded and cast in plastic then hand painted.

Very cool little figure! Let me know what you think!

Here's a few "quick" customs I did recently. When I say "quick" I mean not a lot of effort was put into them. All in all these only took about two or three evenings. I like doing these along with my more detailed customs. It's almost instant gratification and great practice.

First up is "Hammer Head" this is a repaint of Momaw Nadon from the POTF line. He's all decked out in the retro Kenner colors. I base coat him, then he gets a dark wash and some dry brushing. Details like the eyes and other smaller things are painted and I give him two coats of satin varnish.

Next up I've got an easy fun repaint of a POTF IG-88. There was a lot of detail here.

Here we have a little more effort. This was an Episode 1 Qui-Gon Jinn. I whittled the head down and used a two part mold and some Aves to press the new head around the neck. A little armor and a paint job and I've got a Duros Sith Lord.

Here's another push mold head on a E1 figure. This head was originally sculpted by me and molded, this isn't Hasbro's Mosep. This was a Obi-Wan Kenobi now he's a Nimbain thug. Aves and various paint techniques. He looks like he belongs in Jabba's court.

Last one. This one always bugged me. It's a strait forward repaint using several techniques. I knew this pile of POTF figure was useful. Lak Sivrak y'all.

Thanks Bronxstalker! Yes I did a two part mold for both parts of the jet pack. It pops apart quite easily. I did try molding it as one piece with a two part, but it causes too many defects. Separating the pack in parts is the way to do it.

Final paint apps applied. Weathering and details have been added. The back peg has proven to be an asshole and some have broken off. No big deal. I've added neodymium magnets to compensate those.
So here they are! They'll be hitting eBay later today.

Howdy Folks!

I've had a little time lately and have been hard at work on the beginnings of my classic MARVEL STAR WARS stint. These figures are 1/12th scale and a passion project for me. Now it would be fun to translate the characters as they were, straight from the pages of the old comics, but I always like to put my own spin on things. Giving these characters a much needed re-boot is essential. I want to achieve a look for them that makes sense in relation to the films and breath new life into them.
Most of the time the re-booted characters need a little story tweaking as well. I always try to make them a little more interesting and use cannon story lines to fit them into the universe seamlessly.

In the beginning there was a film called STAR WARS. Not STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE. Just STAR WARS. I was 10 years old and it was hands down the greatest thing I'd ever seen. I saw the movie more times than I could count and just as many as my allowance and grass cutting money would allow. I collected the toys, posters, magazines... anything that came out. I bought the MARVEL comics adaptation of the movie and to my delight, MARVEL didn't stop there. They kept going. New stories, New characters. As a 10 year old I loved them and waited every month for the next exciting installment. It was a much smaller world then. There was no internet, no bantering and arguing about who's a better fan. The ugliness of today's societal woes were not present. You liked what you liked and that was it. It was a better time in that aspect.

So here we are and I'm starting with not one, but two of my favorite MARVEL characters. The FIRST EU characters to be seen were some of my favorites... SPACE PIRATES!!!! Namely Captain Crimson Jack and his first mate Jolli. They were awesome! A bit under-dressed for space travel but awesome just the same. Crimson Jack got his nickname from the color of his mane. His pirate vessel was a Victory Class I Imperial Star Destroyer he and his crew found adrift. He raised his First Mate Jolli from a child and aside from his gruff demeanor saw the girl as a daughter. Captain Jack and his crew were known for raiding unsuspecting freighters via space jump, attaching themselves to the hulls and blasting thought to get what they wanted.

We also get that Han Solo and Jack are acquainted and have been for some time. I would have loved to have seen that or even a Jack cameo in the new Solo movie. These guys might fit into that film pretty nicely...

Space Jumps are no problem with the right gear. Jack's jet pack is magnetized to his back and can be removed.

Jack, like his crew, uses some Imperial items that were taken from the crew before their demise. His chest armor is the breast plate from a Stormtrooper and before he jettisoned the Imperial Naval Captain out the air lock he ripped his insignia from his jacket and fastened it to his armor.

Zim Zim is a character of my own creation. He did not appear in the MARVEL story line. I figured a pirate needs a parrot... right?

Zim Zim is a fully articulated custom figure. The head and everything else was sculpted by me.

Jack acquired Zim Zim in a raid. He was one of several Monkey Lizards taken. Jack liked the red color of Zim Zim's fur which suits his vain nature.

Jolli is Captain Jack's right hand and First Mate. Jack found her and raised her from a small child. Jack see's Jolli as a daughter.

Thanks Foxtrot. In my mind they're kind of a combination of Pirates of the Caribbean and the pirate organization from Gardians of the Galaxy. I see Jack as a Yondo type. Tries to uphold the rough exterior but is really a softie inside.

Gosh thanks Tamer! I've got big plans for EU Legends. Most customizers are building movie characters using expanded parts from the 3-3/4" lines. The casters out there are able to expand the parts using various methods, Hydrospan being one. they do great work. I like sculpting my own. Jack and the Monkey Lizard are original sculpted portraits by me. I love to sculpt, it's one of my favorite things to do. Jolli's head is a modified Marvel Select Gamorah. Jack's jetpack is also an original creation by me. Sooner or later I'll put them out for sale either on my FB page or ebay. If anyone wants something and doesn't want to wait for me to "get to it"  ;) they can contact me via my FB page https://www.facebook.com/DarthSinisterCreations/ (https://www.facebook.com/DarthSinisterCreations/) and inquire.

Got some more "Quick" customs here using POTF figures. Love doing these!

First one is a Devaronian Bouncer. Push mold head, lots of Aves FixIt Sculpt. This was a POTF Darth Vader... sculpted right over that sucker.

If you wear contact lenses you probably have an over abundance of these things lying around. When I'm painting a fig a lot of the time I mix colors to make a custom color. When everything is done I sometimes have to do a "last look" and always there are some touch ups needed.

What I started doing is mixing my custom color in these. It holds enough that one side is sufficient per color. They're made for liquid so when you seal it up the paint stays wet.

The red one was Jolli's base color and has been in there for two weeks. Still usable.

Wow, there's a lot to respond to here. First off, I really, really like your interpretation of Crimson Jack and Jolli - well done. They were truly fun characters from a truly fun era of Star Wars and you have updated them very nicely.

Second, great job on the older style customs. There are so many great elements to all of them, I was going through the images saying, "I like that one, no I like that one, no I especially like that one..." which simply means "well done" all around. I hesitate to single out any, but I think I'm particularly fond of the gunslinger and the Ubese soldier.

Third, great idea for the contact lens cases! I'll be using that "hack".

DONE!! One more step into a lost world. These two are my absolute favorites, always have been. Old MARVEL Star Wars was da bomb.

Here is my re-imagining of the green rabbit himself. Jaxxon has a special place in my heart. This one took a while as did his accomplice. Lots of little details and nods not only to the comics but artists like Pablo Hidalgo and me... the cigar is something I've always given Jaxxon. He seems like the type. (If you look closely you'll notice a pouch on his belt with two more cigars, 3 in all)

On Jaxxon's shoulder is a patch representing the Star Hoppers and on the space helmet, aside from a credit symbol and a tiny Rebel symbol is a star. The star has been incorporated into a lot of Jaxxon art out side of the comic so I had to add it.

And what's Jaxxon without his main squeeze Amaiza. Here she is decked out in her saloon girl attire. A little scam her and Jax used to run to cop credits galore from gambling houses. She was the inside gal! Also watch out! Aside from being a quick draw and once a high member of the Black Hole Gang, Amaiza wears a beautiful flower in her hair all the time... or is it? It's actually a pet called a snipscrill. Don't get too close to her, the creature is quite protective and deadly poison.

Let me know what you guys think!

I honestly would assume these where hasbro quality if not for the tinniest scrutiny.

I love these characters too. Especially that stupid bunny. I always imagined him and Howard the duck being stuck in a buddy comedy.

He is without a doubt the org. Jar Jar Binks... Its just hilarious since some how you can take him 99% serious.

Loved the cigar.
Title: Re: DarthSinister's Customs

Sure 'nuff! I love your interpretation of Jaxxon (never was a fan of the green). And Amaiza is...well, amazing. Great attention to detail, fabulous sculpting! I have a soft spot for the Star Hoppers as well (remember being really mad when Hedji died), so these are fun customs to see. Great work.
Title: Re: DarthSinister's Customs
Post by: DarthSinister on March 14, 2018, 02:32:32 PM
Thank You Sjefke! They are 6" figures. The detail in the helmet are meant to tell a story. There's a red star on one side with some Arabesh written on it. A few artists who have drawn Jaxxon outside of the comics, Pablo Hildalgo comes to mind, have incorporated a star into Jax's outfit. This is a tip of the hat to those guys, also the Arabesh says Coachella Prime which is Jaxxon's home world. There's a credit symbol because Jax loves credits almost as much as Han Solo. Last a tiny Rebel symbol to show where his alliance lies. They're all stickers that I sealed on with varnish.

The cigar... I always saw Jax as a Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western character.  ;D
Title: Re: DarthSinister's Customs
Post by: DarthSinister on March 14, 2018, 02:39:34 PM
Thanks Starchaser! The green never bothered me much. I think the comic simply chose the wrong shade. I firmly believe that Jaxxon paved the way for green pigs (Gamorians).  ;)

Hedji isn't dead! He was just playing dead like Hedji's do and later on he joined Han and the rest in the Cantina for a drink. Oh and Chewie was able to put FE-9Q back in working order.

Thanks again bro!

I need to catch up on both of your latest updates:

I don't know the comic, but these figures look like awesome characters! The Devaronian Bouncer and the Ithorian Ceremonial Guard are my favourites, but also the troopers look fantastic! Have you only used original parts for these customs or are some of the head sculpts actually resin parts like the head of the Vuvrian Sith Lord or Marvel's Jabba (both awesome, too!)?

Your customs are priceless that's for sure and $18 are a steal for these masterpieces! Do you also ship to Germany?

That Jaxxon is just so cool! I agree with Sjefke, the head sculpt is phenomenal!

You did a fantastic job on these customs! Very inspiring - also the editing of the pictures is very well done! Which program do you use to edit your pictures? I use Paint and Microsoft Power Point. Thanks for sharing!

Title: Re: DarthSinister's Customs
Post by: DarthSinister on March 16, 2018, 07:50:32 PM
Thank you Darth More!

The 3-3/4" figures are done using a "push mold" technique. I make a silicone mold of a Hasbro head or in Jabba's case an original sculpt. I can use the mold to cast heads in plastic , but I can also load it with Aves Fix it and press it over the existing head. In the Bouncers case I whittled that head down before pressing the mold. He was originally a POTF Darth Vader.

I normally do ship to Germany. It just happens I offered these free shipping so I turned off the international shipping option.

I use Photoshop for my photo backgrounds.

Thanks again.

I've done this one before, but this is my first 1/12th scale. From Shadows of the Empire here is Snoova! This is the real Snoova... no Chewbacca disguise here. This one was great fun to do.

He's been sculpted in green stuff. Craft foam was used to make the usual belts and armor, but I also used it to make Snoova's Vibro-Axe... craft foam and a metal coat hanger and some greebles.

Take note of Snoova's trophies hanging from the back of his armor. 😈 Draped over his cape are the bones of a Transdosian Chieftain. This bounty hunter means business!

I got a quick one here. Nothing too impressive. Just something I felt like doing.  I really like the way he came out. This is my version of an Imperial Jump Trooper.

1:12th AT-AT Pilot re-paint. Added a belt and gun holster. A little sculpting. Casted Fett Jetpack by me and added magnets. Cool little pistol and a missile launcher round him out.

If you haven't seen this read up on this guy. The whole series is based in old horror, utilizing some of the greats like Bella Lugosi, Boris Karloff and Vincent Price as Dark Lords.

Well, it's about time I made one of these guys in plastic so of coarse what would I pick but the most difficult one.  ;D  This is a WIP. I'm close to being done... yet so far away. This is the Bella Lugosi tribute, Darth Vereor and his pet Nexu Blasko'... in 1:12th scale. It's been an adventure, but so far I'm pleased with the results. I'll just post a few photos and explain.

Of coarse here is the original art work so I'm shooting for a similar look. For me the whole thing is selling that this is Bella Lugosi so truly the most important part is the portrait (head sculpt).

Starting with the Nexu, it took 3 figures to pull this off.  I used a Hobbit Warg from the 1:18 line, a Marvel Legends Cotton Mouth and the original Hasbro Nexu from EI. Not all parts were used of coarse.

Here I've attached the arms and the legs of Cotton Mouth to the Warg body using Aves FixIt Sculpt. The original Hasbro Nexu bendy tail is attached using wire and adhesive.

Close up of the grafted limbs and a little Green Stuff on the tail. Notice the Nexu spikes robbed from the original fig.

Nexu body and the top of the head. The top of the head is sculpted over the original Warg head.

Top of the head close up. This is before several mods were done.

Nexu getting his front pads.

Close up of the front pads.

Head received a lower jaw. The jaw is hinged using POTF figure arms turned backward. A home made receiver is made and now the jaw opens and closes.

Bella Lugosi portrait created using Sculpey. I can see him. I hope everyone else can because this likeness is important to the figure. Paint apps will help too.

Armor was created using styrene. I made sure there were elements of Lugosi's Dracula character present to keep the theme going.

Mold box built and ready to go. I'll cast him in plastic for the final.

Close up of the final head. I'm thinking of molding him as well. Not sure yet.

Lord Vader uses Force choke on his subordinates. Darth Vereor uses Blasko', his loyal pet to take care of his problems.

I am anxious to see his paint work on the legs and tail of this after looking at his comic cover. That sure looks like one hard thing to replicate in paint form. I bet DS knocks it out of the park though.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments!

Tamer, I went with a different paint scheme on him. When doing the art work I use whatever I can find but creating the figures gives me the freedom to do what I would have done If I could have. Both of these guys got a "face Lift".

Finally Finished!

6" Darth Vereor and his pet Blasko based on classic horror art work that I did years ago. Bella Lugosi's Dracula is the inspiration. The Sith Master has many tricks up his sleeve one of which is a bonded Force link with his pet Nexu. I think I'd rather be choked by Vader.

The Bella Lugosi head sculpt is available and these guys will go up on Ebay in a few days. If interested PM me @ https://www.facebook.com/DarthSinisterCreations

It is just plain cool to see you make a custom set out of this comic cover you did so long ago. I really like it. It would be so cool to have this set and a poster of your comic cover on the wall near it. I do like these homages that you do. I will definitely feature your auction when this goes live; well someone may buy it before then. Anyhow, wow and off to share.

Darth Vereor and his pet Blasko look horrifying!! :o I you know what I mean...how did you make the 1/18 scale Nexu look like 1/12 scale? Is the headsculpt scaled up didgitally?

Both look very well! Excellent work, Darth!

Post by: DarthSinister on May 25, 2018, 09:08:51 PM
Thanks Darth More. A few parts came from the 1/18th version including the tail. It's still bendable. I just lengthened it to scale it up.

The head was hand sculpted. The only parts that came from the 1/18 version are some of the teeth. The head actually gave me a lot of troubles. I wanted to mold it and cast it but I just couldn't get it right. I decided to use the original. I got it on and immediately found that the mouth wouldn't open. I removed a fair amount of material and freed up the jaw so it would open and close.  That's when I realized the weight of the head was just making it. The head weighs about 2.5oz. An entire 6" action figure weighs around 2.9oz. I had to tighten up the front leg joints so he'd stand under the weight. He works great now but it was work to get there.

Delving back into the 3-3/4" realm, the gangs all here. I finally did all 8 defenders of Aduba-3. Star Wars Eight For Abuba-3 was the 8th installment of the Star Wars Marvel run. Published in November of 1977, these were the continued adventures of Luke, Han and Leia from A New Hope.

Han and Chewie are hired to put together a group of fighters to go against a ruthless gang called the Cloud Riders.

Chewbacca head swap and repaint.

Han Solo head swap, sculpt and paint work.

Jaxxon and Amaiza, I just did these two in 6". They turned out nice. Almost duplicates of the larger ones.

Original head sculpt, parts swapping, sculpting and paint.

Amaiza is sculpting and paint.

Don-Wan and Hedji.

I imagine if Don was a Jedi (which was left undetermined) his silver armor from the comic would have probably been Clone Trooper armor. Makes sense. He was portrayed very Shakespearean and extremely eccentric.

Parts swap, sculpting and paint. Sharpie marker on the saber blade for his signature yellow blade.

Hedji was a Spiner and supposedly the last of his kind. Custom head sculpt, parts swap and paint.

Jimm Doshun and his farm droid FE-9Q.

Jimm was a hot shot kid who was trying to make a name for himself. Parts swap, sculpting and paint.

FE-9Q was Jimm's farm droid. He protected Jimm and had become a proficient fighter. Parts swap, scratch building, sculpting, casting and paint.

In the comic FE-9Q had extendable arms. I decided to do a take on that by giving him a cluster of implement arms for farming.

Each arm is built from styrene rods, jointed too.

A fun group of characters and a fun story. The actual basis for the Aduba run was the western "The Magnificent Seven".

Thanks Tamer. The original T-1 base I used had an opening in the front. You can see it in this pic...

That didn't look Star Wars to me, so when I began gluing small parts to it I decided to fill the cavity with a half cast of an Astromech can. That's what you see here...

Funny you should ask about the Jaxxon head. Just finished the molding process Sunday. Pulled casts yesterday. I will put these on ebay eventually, but I'm seriously trying to get away from them. They're fees are out of control. A person has to over price to make any money, it's ridiculous. E-bay, coupled with PayPal are becoming as bad as Amazon. GREED. It's almost impossible for me to price out a custom figure or even a small item like a head and make any kind of money on it. Granted I'm not trying to get rich. I just like to support my hobby and share my visions with others. Etsy is getting just as bad. (i never thought I'd say this), but FaceBook is the best alternative right now. Sure I could open a store like Outer Rim Traders (who have great products by the way) shameless plug for my bud, but you have to have a lot of product and followers for that.

RE-ENVISION THE PREQUELS.
From my graphic artwork comes the Mandalorian Death Squad Commando. The mysterious Mandalorians were closed off from the galaxy for hundreds of years until coaxed into war against the Galactic Republic by Count Dooku. A society of Cloners, the vicious Mandalorian armies are entirely made up of clones of the very best warriors of their people. The most deadly of these armies are known as the Death Squad Commandos. They are used in the most dangerous situations including extractions, tactical seizures and assassinations.

Thank You Tamer. I'm cooking lately! Got several customs in the works... not all are Star Wars, but since everything revolves around my main focus now which is custom heads a lot of these can translate and will translate over to Star Wars.

Here's another finished one. I'll probably have a second today as well so keep your eyes open.

Lee Marvin is done. Using the head on a Kilmonger body and he looks Great! I imagine he's a SHIELD operative that works closely with Nick Fury, Major Reisman! Awesome addition to my SHIELD team!

Here's another one that's up and running...

Round 2 today!!!
Finished and multiple casts!
From Spiderman homecoming... The Vulture... or better yet Adrian Toomes! I finished him for you Hasbro. Michael Keaton was great as Batman and fantastically brutish as the Vulture. This head can go either way. The weapon from Spiderman Homecoming is hand made as well. I'll be casting it down the road a ways.

Thanks Stan. I really appreciate the face painting comment. To me I'm no face painter. I would love to see a real face painter do them justice.

Wow DarthSinister -  that Mando turned out really well - I like the modifications to the helmet as well as the stunning paint job. I think you are underselling yourself on the face painting, though - these are really excellent.

Thanks Starchaser. I'm working hard on the face painting. I thought myself to sculpt so I'm bound and determined to do the same with painting. I just went out yesterday and bought an airbrush gun. I've done one head and it made a huge difference. I just got finished prepping 8 more heads and intend to mass paint them Thursday. Hopefully I'll have something new to show this weekend.

Say guys, what photo sharing site is everyone using these days? I've been using Imgur, but recently they seem to have changed their policy. They want me to upgrade and claim my cache is full. I haven't added anymore photos. Seems they just want money.

What? Well I sure haven't heard that or seen that message from Imgur. Geesh, hope they don't go the photobucket route.

Post by: DarthSinister on August 05, 2019, 07:52:19 AM
Yeah Tamer, it's funny because the only reason I have it is to post photos here or on Yak or Scum. They're all the same photos so the only thing I have on there is whats in my custom Action figure post and my Graphic art post. If I take any off of Imgur they cease to exist here. It's reall ticking me off, because I had a really cool Hank Pym I wanted to post but can't.

Okay. I was able to purge a few things to get a little space. At least I could download Dr. Pym.
So here is one I've been working on. Dr. Hank Pym. Head sculpt and HotWheels Rally Car Case created by me. Body is a re-painted Marvel Legends Claw figure. Thanks you guys! Always feel the love here! It's crazy. My most wanted head is the 1:18 finished Jaxxon head. I'm currently working on the same style of Jax in 1:12th. Using a Bossk head as a base so he'll fit onto the 1:12th Bossk body.

Thanks Tamer! It's a layered, slow process. The jaw hinge will stay intact so ole' Jax can smoke a cigar. LOL (kinda my trademark thing) A little progress. Today I separate the back of the head and peg it to reconnect for a cast-able rabbit ears section.

Your Jaxxon head is looking really good. The work on the jaw to keep it articulated is excellent. I hope it isn't offensive to say that without the ears, the face is reminiscent of Falkor the Luck Dragon from "The Neverending Story" :)
Title: Re: DarthSinister's Customs
Post by: DarthSinister on August 12, 2019, 05:42:16 AM
Thanks Starchaser. No it's not offensive. I'm not really offended by anything... not one of those. LOL I have a personal take on Jaxxon. While I feel he's a rabbit per-say he still has alien qualities. He has an attitude... a smart a**ed bad attitude (Kind of like Rocket the Raccoon) and my vision of Jax smokes a cigar... like the A-Teams Hannibal Smith (plus it's offensive to smoke to some people and I find that funny). Here's my personal take on him. Old art work, but one of my favorites.

I totally agree with your take on Jaxxon! I've always really liked the character (even the design as a giant space rabbit), but I like that you leave him a little "not bunny" - a green Bugs Bunny doesn't really work. He's going to be a most excellent sculpt when complete. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the front page Tamer! Having fun with this one.

Thanks Starchaser. Did you know that Jaxxon was originally based on Bugs Bunny? When the StarHoppers teamed up with Han and Chewie to fight the Cloud Riders (the term Cloud Riders was used in the SOLO movie) on Aduba 3 (Aduba 3 was loosely based on Bug's home, the WB or Warner Brothers at the time ) the story line there was a loose rendition of "The Magnificent Seven". Godzilla was very popular at the time, so the writers mixed in the Behemoth based on him to hold the attention of the children reading the comics at the time. (Because almost only children read comic books then) In a later issue Jaxxon and the StarHoppers show up again. This time they're being hunted by the notorious Bounty Hunter Valance.  (keep in mind that this was way before Boba Fett and the whole Star Wars bounty hunter thing) Valance's character was based on the villain made famous by Lee Marvin in the John Wayne/Jimmy Stewart Western "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". Valance hunted the StarHoppers, under the impression that Jimm Doshun was actually Luke Skywalker, whom he was hired to find. Jaxxon was briefly captured by two of Valance's cronies named Dafi and Fud (again hearkening back to Jaxxon's roots as Bugs Bunny and insinuating Daffie Duck and Elmer Fudd )

Fun Facts!

Yeah, I had that in my fun facts file too. I actually have the Marvel issues in which the StarHoppers all appear. I remember thinking (even as a kid at the time) how "cheesy" the valied references were, but that was okay with me. :)

Got a small Update. Green Stuff for his jacket striping and StarHopper's patch and 90% done with his space boots. Styrene space helmet collar and I'm trying a new thing here. Styrene strip gun belt covered in Green Stuff. The beginnings of that are laying at his feet.

In the mean time...
My Lutrillian is finished! No specific character, but I think he's an old hand gambler. Very rich. In and out of the higher class casino circuit. I'll name him Shomp Tindrel. Usually travels with an entourage... body guards, different species of females and some good buddies.

Casting the head soon.

1:12th scale.

Head: by me

Body: Cassian Andor

Belt and Lower Tunic: Finn First Order Officer

Cape: Solo Lando Calrrissian

UK! Whats up bro! Glad you liked this guy. I've been moving away from 1:18th scale a little, but not entirely. I'll tell ya... any head I do in 1:12th scale has a strong possibility of going to 1:18th and vise versa. It's all just a matter of time, but things have been moving a little faster at the DSC Factory so keep your eyes open.

Whats on the bench? Progress on Darth Vernula the Defel Sith apprentice to Darth Vereor. When all is done this will be the ultimate tribute to Bela Lugosi's Golden Age Dracula. More horror Sith Lords to come!!!

Whats on the bench? Jaxxon! Much body progress has been made, check it out. Also the head is being fine tuned. I've ran into molding problems with it, but I hope to put those to bed soon. He'll be a one piece cast. He was three pieces... uhg!

Thank ya fellas! That Yam'rii has been a lot of pain staking sculpting work, but I'm happy with the results. He's nearly done. I just got finished with the last of the sculpting and when that cures in the next day or so I'll prime him and get him ready to paint. I've added a few greebles to him. Not exactly making the one from the Cantina scene. You guys know I have to put my own spin on things and the Cantina Yam'rii was so non-descript I just started adding details. This is going to be a Bounty Hunter. I'll give him a name when he's done. Here's a WIP look...

Wow, Yam'rii turned out great (as expected)! I couldn't think of a better, more unique way of using that Snoke figure. Snoke is found on clearance everywhere and I hope you got him cheap, too!
The head is taken from that 1:18 scale ROTS Can-Cell, right? Brilliant idea and design! I'm amazed by all the different parts you utilize here! Jaxxon turned out excellently as well! Most impressed by your sculpting skills!
Is that a hint at your next/current project in the background there?

You definitely make some of the most unique 6 inch custom Star Wars figures out there!
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Philipp! He's a fun one to do, and Snoke totally diappeared. LOL And yes, he was a $5dollar fig.
That is not the Can-Cell head. That is Snoke's head under the GreenStuff, so it was hand sculpted. Can't wait to get some paint on him!
What you're seeing in the background is another StarHopper from Jaxxon's posse. That is the Spiner, Hedji, and he's coming together nicely. At the moment I'm waiting on a new Chewbacca body to come in. That's the last Chewie I have and I don't want to give him up. It's going to be another all-body sculpt over.

Yepper, you are really kicking it into high gear with this one. Looks awesome. Off to share.

Thanks Tamer! I'm also finishing up two Defel customs. One will be your standard run of the mill Cantina Defel. The other is a Dark Lord... more on that soon!

Very cool figure.  It reminds me of the Thri-kreen from the old Star Frontiers game from TSR.

Thanks Moronarama. Not familiar with the alien. I'll have to look him up. This is simply an elaborated Yam'rii from the Cantina scene in ANH.

Thanks Starchaser. I plan on doing some paintwork today on the Yam'rii. Can't wait to get him looking spiffy.

I've got quite a few WIPs in the works, all in different stages. The Defel Alien is one that I've been working on diligently. I created the head for an original character that I did in the Graphic Art section many years ago. I began working on that character and finished it, but I still wanted to show the versatility of the head. I created another custom with it which is closer to what we see on screen in ANH.

I finished both customs last night. Both are 1:12th scale. They were super fun to do and I'm pleased with the outcome. I'm posting the Cantina alien first so you guys know what he is. I'll do a separate post for my original character because he has a story and I don't want the two confused.

So here is my Cantina version of the drunken Defel...

Happy Halloween! My favorite holiday because I can make spooky art, spooky customs and spooky costumes.  ;D

Many years ago (2011) I did some mock comic covers called Dark Lords Of The Sith. These were the start of a fun little story to lay the ground work for a Star Wars Sequel (way before the actual Sequels). If anyone wants to go back in the Graphic Arts section and read them they're still there. I just need to go in and fix the pictures, which I will do this evening.

The stars of this tale of Sith Lords were all based on Golden and Silver age Horror Movies, a homage if you will. These great Sith Lords are something I've been building my skills towards making into custom figures for some time. I was able to accomplish a Sith Master (Darth Vereor) a few years ago and had to stop on him and his pet Nexu "Blasko" because of time issues. I'm finally starting to balance out my time issues, so I was able to create his Defel apprentice Lord Vernula. The set is a homage to the late great Bela Lugosi and his portrayal of Count Dracula in the 1931 Universal master piece. Using the likeness of Bela Lugosi as the Master and the Nexu as a homage to Lugosi's film "Black Cat" I found the perfect apprentice in the bat-like alien called a Defel, again a homage to Count Dracula.

Darth Vereor’s apprentice, DARTH VERNULA, was trained in the brutal ways of his master. This Defel Dark Lord was known for his vicious fighting style and equally vicious weapon. The version of a LightSaber was clasped together for a broad sword effect but could be detached for a double weapon fighting style. The weapon also had shorter energy blades that could be separately activated, surprising many doomed Jedi in close combat.

Following the orders of his Master, who was obsessed with eternal life, VERNULA raided an outpost in the Spar Sector. The mission was to find a fabled artifact that was able to extend the possessor’s life indefinitely. The artifact was never found and the mission nearly went very bad when a group of Jedi at the outpost intervened. VERNULA’s vicious training prevailed and all were killed.

VERNULA Latin word meaning: servant.

Here is the original artwork that inspired the figure.

...and can be easily separated. All four blades are removable. I need to work on the smaller blades to get the color right.

And I already wrote a long comment on your Darth Vernula, but it got lost on transmission, which is always pretty frustrating. It would probably take me another 20 minutes to remember everything I wrote...might do that on Halloween.
Both versions of Vernula look incredible. As said in the comments above, your projects are some of the most amazing 1/12 Star Wars customs out there!
Thanks for sharing! Your 6 inch universe is growing in an impressive pace!

What's up peeps! I made another Mandalorian using my skull Mando head. Used a Rick Flagg body again, but totally changed the sculpting and paint decor. This is a Mandalorian Jedi Hunter. He has a working holster and sheath, custom short stock disintegration rifle and Mando vibro blade. He has a cloth goods shoulder cape tied into some trophy straps holding some unfortunate Jedi's lightsabers. Removable custom jetpack.  I'm posting some WIP pics first and then the finished product. I'll be putting him up on eBay in a few days.

Hi everyone. I've been working on a big personal project and it's taken me a while to complete. This was a labor of love for me and I happy to be done with it so I can move on. Everyone knows my love for the old Marvel Comics, especially the earliest EU stories that came out between ANH and ESB. Several years ago I completed the entire Star Hoppers in 3-3/4" figures and it was my goal to do the same in 6" Black Series. Well the day has come to reveal the team. There will be a lot of photos to pour over, but I'm proud of the work and hope some of you enjoy it.

This story line from Marvel Comics in 1978 spans issues #7-10. Some of the first EU ever published. The story was loosely based on "The Magnificent Seven"

Issue #8 cover art shows the entire group of Star Hoppers. I used the comics for reference and took a lot of creative liberties to bring these characters up-to-date.

Group shot of the completed figures.

Very slight kit bashing on Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Jaxxon and Amaiza. I've been drawing and customizing Jaxxon since 1978. The cigar is my own thing for him I've been doing for a long time. I see Jax as the quick witted smart mouth who's idea of fun is a bar fight and should not be under estimated with a blaster. Kind of the Rocket Raccoon of the Star Wars universe.  Amaiza is a design based on her comic appearance. I've changed a few things about her including the flower she prominently wears in her hair. I've taken the liberty of making it a pet. This creature is a poisonous Snip Skrill and a homage to the Demogorgon from Stranger Things.

Jimm 'The Starkiller Kid" Doshun was a wanna be gunslinger. His character was modeled after Chico from "The Magnificent Seven". His Droid FE-9Q "Effie" was a tractor droid designed for farm work. The droid was modified by Jimm with mechanics programing, light protocol modules and fighting/battle chips. The droid has a WED implement cluster on his rear chassis with six different tool arms.

Don-Wan Kihotay, not to be confused with Don Quixote (no Wan), claimed to be a Jedi Knight but was written off as a senile old man with good intentions. He wore silver armor that I suspect was Clone armor plated with Beskar and wielded a yellow bladed Lightsaber that I suspect was a hint to his past. I believe this man was a Jedi Temple Guard during the Clone Wars. Don-Wan was probably in his late 80's and age had taken it's toll. His name Don-Wan alludes to the possibility that he fared from the same place of origin as Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Hedji was one of the Star Hoppers best and most competent fighters. The quiet, stoic alien was a Spiner and one of the last of his kind... much like Zeb. His anatomy was a dangerous weapon. His body was covered in thick, sharp spines that could be propelled at a high speed very accurately with deadly results. The thick spines also acted as an armor and could repel blaster fire to some extent. Hedji spent some time with Don-Wan and was truly convinced he was a Jedi.

Hi Guys and Gals,
I'm back with another one. Just finished up with the help of my oldest daughter who sewed up the cape for me.
Have you ever heard the story of Darth Plagueis the Wise?
Okay, so I took a lot of creative liberties with this one. I can't stand the Muun species. They're just goofy looking and I know Plagueis is a Muun. I went to google images for my inspiration. I poured over many different EU photos, Comic incarnations, and fan based art work to come up with something that satisfied me. He's still a Muun... just from the southern region of their home world. I imagine he has kind of a hick accent too.  ;D No, just kidding. "Hey Darth Sidious! Why don't y'all come on over to the camp this weekend fer some vittles and a training lesson."
Anyhoo... here he is Darth Plagueis. The mask is removable and he's 6" Black Series.

Your customs here are nothing short of mind-blowing!  I never thought I'd see a "cool" Jaxxon - just didn't think it was possible!  His lady friend is insanely cool.  And that skull-faced Mando is easily the scariest looking Mandalorian I've ever seen!

What incredible, top notch work!  What extraordinary, deeply imaginative designs and flawless execution!

Wow, wow, WOW.

Thanks Lance. It's easy to like Jaxxon if you think of him in terms of Rocket Raccoon. I've always seen Jaxxon this way. A smart mouthed, sarcastic 7 foot green rabbit who's quick on the draw, a savvy card player, a drinker and a smoker and always has a scam going to keep his ship fueled. He's just cool!

Hi Guys,
Got a few new Black Series customs to show y'all. These customs are made using head casts that I sell on my eBay sellers page (https://www.ebay.com/sch/whitestoysds/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337371392&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1). Most are hand sculpted by me. These guys aren't screen accurate. I like to make em' up as I go. The figures are also up on my sellers page if anyone is interested. Here you are a fun group of Cantina Aliens.

Wow...Wow...and WOW! That's an amazing set of updates. The sculpts on your heads are really, really nice. And the paint job on the figures is outstanding. If had to pick a favorite its the female Rodian, but they are all just fantastic.

Thanks Tamer for all the things you do!!! I'll try to get back with some more soon.

I agree with previous comments! Starchaser basically summed up which sounds I made when I saw your latest set of customs for the first time. And I think your buy-it-now prices for them are more than fair!
Love the green metallic effect on Zitzii's claws, the hair on N'Rug Bondel's head, the headsculpts of Reenya and Mr Bonehed look amazing, and it's great to see the feet of Hetar Bonehed as well. The texture of his skirt looks really nice, too! The cape looks great on Baron Callandor Simi and the costume of Mr Dinn looks exciting. You show how much detail is possible on 6" figures. Outstanding work of art here - love the color schemes you chose for all of them!

Those head sculpts are just beautiful.  Its hard to pick a favorite, but its probably the Brizzit.  But they are all honestly fantastic.

I love your work Darth Sinister.  Your story telling as well.  I focus on 3.75 size but your sculpt and figures at the six are so good.

Love this batch!

Thank you Darth More. I had a lot of fun making these guys. I also had a lot of fun naming them. I love to make up Star Wars names!

Thanks Moronarama. The flexibility of the head sculpts is great. Kind of like I took my Rodian cast and made him into a female, if you look back on my thread here you'll see the original- unaltered bug head on a brown Mantis guy. I took the cast and added to it to make something new.

Thanks UK! I'm really itching to tell a story. I don't have any time to do the artwork though. These heads and customs are keeping me busy. One day!

What's up Starchaser!  Yeah, I never could figure out why they did hair???? I did a custom female with hair and wasn't satisfied with it so I sat down and brain stormed and this is when I came up with.
Moronarama, thank you bro. I think she looks a lot more attractive without her wig.

Got the heads and hands as a set on my eBay page if anyone is interested.

You just doing them in 1/12 scale? I know that's been most of your excellent quality sculpts. Ever plan on scaling down to 1/18?

I lost about an hour there this morning. You can find anything there including full on customs! Just gorgeous stuff.

Speaking of gorgeous wow! She is beautiful! I would have had a crush on her as a kid instead of Leia if she had shown up to catch Han.

Off to share on the front pages!

Thanks Tamer!!! I'd a had a crush on her too. Thanks for the front page and the store plug!

Starchaser, I'm about to shift gears and turn back to 3-3/4" again, so I have to sharpen my head shrinking skills before I get any out. When I do I'm sure you'll see it here.

The female Rodian head sculpt looks phenomenal.
Great idea to give her a big fin.

Thanks Guys!! I figure the fin is an attraction to the male Rodians. Physiologically I imagine she can either lay it down or flare it up. Depends on weather or not she has a headache...  ;D

No new customs to show, but I've added a few 1:18th scale heads to the eBay store. Lots and lots of aliens to fill out side characters for dioramas or just to make a character from your own imagination. Some are direct copies, some are shrunken heads and some are my own sculpts. If anyone is interested here's a link: https://www.ebay.com/usr/whitestoysds (https://ebay.us/Tm3Vtd)

Title: Re: DarthSinister's Customs

Thanks Starchaser. I've got more on the way. I do not print. These are all molded and cast for fine detail. I do $8 bucks a head. On eBay I have to charge $5 dollars shipping and .25Cents for each extra head. I could do a flat $5 dollars for up to 15 1:18th scale heads "outside" of eBay for any of you guys. Y'all can look up my feedback on eBay and you can DM me on my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/darthsinistercreations/ (https://www.instagram.com/darthsinistercreations/)

I usually throw in a free one or two depending on the size of the order.

Thanks for the front page Tamer. It's always appreciated.

Starchaser, I looked at the feet when I made the mold and the reason I skipped them was the ankle joint. I can't duplicate that any easy way. I've gone down that road before and I had a little success but it wasn't worth it in the end. I'll ponder the problem a little more and see if I can think of anything better.
