Title: The Non-Canonical Legend of Narthax
Post by: halnarthax87 on June 02, 2011, 07:57:45 AM
The Jedi Knight series is still my favorite Star Wars video game series after all these newcomers, battlefront, KOTOR, TFU, etc. And of course about the best part of Jedi Academy is creating your own character... whose name will be Jaden Korr regardless but oh well. Here are two incarnations of Jaden, based on outfits from the game.
Their looks are based off Jadens from the game, but in my little world they're based on my girlfriend's and my Star Wars alter egos. :D

And of course Tavion, Desann and Kyle.
Just a little repaint on Kyle, and the other two are more or less made from spare parts. Tavion doesn't look too terribly game accurate, lacking the face paint and other details.

Interesting takes on Jaden Korr; I'm always up for a good use of the Kyle Katarn fig torso.

Title: Imperial High Command
Post by: halnarthax87 on June 03, 2011, 10:55:38 AM
From left to right: Mara Jade (Emperor's Hand), Sate Pestage (Grand Vizier), Palpatine (Emperor of the Universe), Grand Admiral Thrawn, Grand Admiral Ishin-Il-Raz, Grand Admiral Miltin Takel. Oh and, Mas Amedda, Darth Vader and the guards are in there, but they're not customized.
I didn't like the paint job on the new Mara Jade figure, so I altered it a bit. Sate Pestage was the result of having too many variations on Tarkin.
As for Palpatine... we still haven't gotten the perfect Palpatine figure... they keep coming CLOSE but f***ing it up in some minor way. The grey skinned target exclusive figure and the force unleashed editions came closest... but his hood looked awful. Then they gave us another variation on that same figure, but it looked like the now obsolete composite Emperor from the original Empire. And the vintage Sidious, while cool, still didn't give us the classic emperor look. I've made a few customized Emperors but this is probably my best version, with the old Power of the Force Palpatine's head on the new figure's body.

Title: Classic Buns
Post by: halnarthax87 on June 04, 2011, 07:51:45 AM
Hasbro has made some great strides with Leia figures recently. The latest version of her in her Hoth gear looked just about dead on... except she was too pale and her hair was too dark, but the sculpt was just about perfect (I may have to repaint that one). And then there was that figure of her at the end of ESB, which also looked great and the coloring was perfect as well. Still... not satisfied. We haven't gotten an updated Leia in her classic clothes... well actually we did, but without the classic buns, so I took the ESB figure and attached the head of the power of the force Leia, which still holds up well today. So here she is posing with John Williams touching "Comically Long Gun Theme" playing... in my mind. :P
Title: Imperial Officers
Post by: halnarthax87 on June 04, 2011, 01:29:09 PM
I have a little too much fun with the Imps. I wanted to just have enough to line up as seen in ROTJ, so I ended up getting several of those Luke Skyalker and Deena Shan packs. After swapping a few heads I realized there were too many with the same face which clashed with the others... so I end up with several, several different officers, and enough females for an Imperial Womens Corps. Right now they're all basically generic (cept Daala there), I'll go through and name them someday, unless anyone else has any ideas. Shout em out.
I actually wish there could have been one or two female imperial baddies in the films, I know the Empire is supposed to be male chauvinist but a strong, cold, confident villainess is more intimidating than a dude. Even in the prequels we kind of missed out, we saw Aurra Sing for all of two seconds, and she made a hell of a villainess in the EU. Oh well, and I always thought the uniform was kinda sexy. :D

Like the Naziesque Imperial banners?

And while it was a valid concern mentioned on the front page of the site (to any toy collector I'm sure...) the cost wasn't as great as one might think. I was quite careful in acquiring these in an economic way. I got the first few at Targets, but most of them I got for real cheap on Ebay and at a local owned store in my city. Fortunately these aren't too popular amongst the kiddies, so I get em for a few bucks a pop. :D

Ah, a man after my own heart! Awesome female officers! I love female characters and wish they'd release some more! Female troopers, rebels, etc. In the mean time we can always make 'em ourselves! Great job! What'd you use for the flags?

I got the idea for that flag from a 501st flag I saw (the costume group), can't remember where, then I designed it myself on gimp and just printed them off. I think I'll do them in red next time.

Post by: halnarthax87 on June 06, 2011, 12:03:41 PM
The biggest problem with Palpatines in recent years have been the cowls which don't look like the film in the least. These can be trimmed to look somewhat right, but I decided to sew my own on. It's slightly sloppy but decent with all my knowledge of middle school home economics. He's also repainted to look a little more pale and red around the face.

Post by: halnarthax87 on June 07, 2011, 11:56:14 AM
When you cannibalize and customize as many figures as this, you end up with some spare parts. A lot of spare parts. However, I often have more fun with using spare parts to be creative than I do with my original intended creations. Here are but a few, including a Mandalore warrior based on Mr. 47 from the Hitman games, he's got the bald head, cold face, black attire and dual silver pistols. With him is a member of the Mandalore aristocracy... who I actually made while thinking about Mozart's Queen of the Night from Die Zauberflötte (Believe it or not I'm an opera singer when not doing this). And at the bottom is an exiled member of the Chiss Ascendency turned pirate in the Rise of the Empire era.  Hope you all like. ;D

Title: The Narthax Story
Post by: halnarthax87 on June 08, 2011, 09:10:05 AM
Narthax began as a running joke in college as the most badass man in the galaxy, who was really nothing more than a drunk, violent, f*** up. But I liked the name so much I applied it to my very flawed hero in the Star Wars universe. During the early rebellion days he's a drifter, doesn't talk much, dry-humored and somewhat mysterious. He carries a lightsaber that he isn't very adept with using, but is talented with force mind tricks, despite this he claims to have no past affiliation with the Jedi Order. In secret he masquerades as a cloaked vigilante (claiming to be a jedi ghost), assassinating imperial officials and creating fear in the chain of command. He teams up with a young woman named Kirri Starwind, a former imperial army officer who lead an uprising of Wookiee slaves, and an adventurous Jawa inventor named Tiku.
The three of them take on the Empire on the outer rim world of Aureole under imperial subjection. Despite its low status in the galaxy, the planet is host to a bounty of resources the Empire took interest in. The human aristocracy have sold out the world in exchange for political power in the Empire, enslaving the diverse alien population and exploiting lower class humans as well. Despite their imperial connections they are still extremely corrupt and have firm ties to the criminal underworld, including the Chiss pirate Wolf'garur'ordona (Wolf). Narthax, Kirri and Tiku work underground to unite the people to rise up against their oppressors, even convincing the pirates to fight for them in the end, considering they are mostly alien they come to realize once they outlive their usefulness they will be betrayed.

ALAS... last night I discovered a new Star Wars fan film known as "A Light in the Darkness" that has almost the exact same plot... f my life (vigilante lightsaber-wielding guy trying to unite the exploited people of some backwater world against the Empire). I can't stay mad at them though, the film they put together is truly impressive, very well filmed, edited and acted, not just by fan film standards either, it looks very professional. It's an entree in this year's fan film challenge, I highly recommend you check it out.

So... here are the figures I've made from this little story. Narthax's team, his alter ego, and the corrupt aristocrats, imperials and their criminal affiliates.

Title: Mopey Dark Jedi
Post by: halnarthax87 on June 08, 2011, 12:13:24 PM
This is my little slam on Twilight. I've taken what the heroes are in that series, and made them as they should be. Villains.
A cult of dark jedi who are all jealous of the jedi. They're a cult of sociopaths, sadists, comprised mostly of spoiled, pretentious, whiny, sullen, mopey teenagers, all deadly with a lightsaber and the darkside but aren't nearly as powerful as they boast.
Okay, they're mostly based on the Reborn and Disciples of Ragnos cults, but after being dragged to two Twilight movies I came to see that the "heroes" of those films make fascinating villains.
Sadly the day is rapidly approaching when I can't make fun of Twilight anymore. Soon it will be completely culturally irrelevant. A shame, it was just too damn easy to mock.  ;D

Good, Good.  My hate and distaste for everything twilight runs deep.  You portray those (dare i say "characters"?) exactly how they should be in a SW universe.  The only good thing about twilight was that it made the AotC love story a tad bit more bearable...
Title: Re: Narthax's Customs
Post by: halnarthax87 on June 08, 2011, 03:12:53 PM
Hahaha, thanks, we must all come to terms with the AOTC love story in our own way... I've come to accept it, soppy and melodramatic and slightly flawed as it was. As clunky as it was, it actually had some decent subtle foreshadowing for what was to come... it's just hard to notice when facepalming every time they speak.  vadsab

Good lord. You know you're a fan when you watch AotC in the theaters and feel embarrassed for the people that are just there to see a movie. The problem with those scenes (I know there's a billion) but one major one is that the lines suck. Whoever wrote the newer films lost all the tongue in cheek humor, the swashbuckling, the snarkiness of the OT writing. Instead you've got stiff overacting that sucks all the air out of the room and makes you cringe. Add in a huge pile of CGI and make everything--droids, starships, aliens, a bit too shiny to be the past and you've got a very top heavy visually appealing but content-lacking lead balloon of a film. I happen to enjoy the stories the new movies spawned in books, comics, video games etc. But absolutely am a hard core OT fan. Have you ever played "count the sneers and scowls?" I think everyone but the droids and starships sneers/scowls in those movies. They really do the "looking up through your eyebrows leer" waaaaaay too much.

I've been angry with Lucas for a long while now for creating a technologically clunky, albeit awesome Empire that basically ran on old 1970s technology and Star Trek computers with flashing lights in the background was supposed to evolve from a past that had the internet and everything was clean and shiny and new. It's like the internet was the past and now we have the fax machine here in the future. Silly Lucas.

Ok enough ranting...

Ok enough ranting...

You bring up some legit points, but allow me to provide a little perspective. Yes it's true that the Empire's technology was clunkier than the Old Republic. The prequels were set in a gilded age, when the glory and pomp of the Republic was at its peak, everything was shiny and new which covered up the corruption eating away within, whereas the old trilogy had more of a post-apocalyptic setting with a clear distinction between the haves and have nots.
As to Lucas himself... I've come to forgive him for his writing devolving from lines like "Never tell me the odds" to "Are you an angel?" Why? Because his own story matches Anakin/Vader's story soooo eerily well. He was a young artist who wanted independence from the hollywood system, and he was a hero in those days for risking everything to not only become a great director but re-energizing the hollywood system itself and ultimately changing film for the better. However, his motivation was the control he wanted over his art... much like Anakin's motives for control. As a result Lucas who wanted nothing to do with the corporations ended up becoming head of a corporation himself, thus becoming the very thing he swore to destroy ;). Thus... the prequels were sub par because by that time he was more of a businessman than an artist.
The irony is just too great for me to stay mad at the guy. And since his story is Darth Vader's, there is good in him, we can save him we can turn him back to the good side. ;)

Title: Tavion Reloaded
Post by: halnarthax87 on June 11, 2011, 11:46:31 AM
It's that seductive sassy sith squeeze Tavion Axmis. She made a good human villainess in the Jedi Knight series. She first appeared as the cold yet sultry assistant to the Dark Jedi Desann, and a supremely confident braggart as well. She proves herself to be a worthy adversary but then reveals herself to be a sniveling coward when Kyle Katarn defeats her, subsequently saving herself from Kyle's wrath. After Desann's defeat she rallies his former followers and creates a new cult dedicated to resurrecting the ancient sith lord Marka Ragnos. She's just as arrogant and self-serving as before, but now she's hell bent on revenge and fearless.
I made a figure of her before to go along with my Marka Ragnos figure, but never truly finished it. now I've repainted it and given it Tavion's face and body paint.
Title: Trandoshan Hunters
Post by: halnarthax87 on June 23, 2011, 06:42:32 PM
I wanted to include in my fan fiction a sort of "Most Dangerous Game" scenario involving trandoshans... and then Clone Wars did it. But that didn't stop me from making a crew of trandoshan badasses. I should be giving partial credit as someone else on the forum added the skull belt to a trandoshan... but alas I've forgotten who that was. If you're looking, give a shout out. While the belt of skulls is awesome, the Grievous cape, red spacesuit, and severed head they're parading around were all my doing. They make some formidable adversaries. 0/

Post by: halnarthax87 on June 24, 2011, 09:33:52 PM
My favorite Star Wars comic series was the Empire series, which then segwayed into the equally great Rebellion series. We met some interesting new characters in that arc, rebel agent Wyl Tarson, the lovely f*** up Deena Shan (who eventually comes through), and of course the infamous "Tank," mentioned by Luke in ANH. As it turned out Tank was an up and coming imperial officer, who for all his doubts about the Empire's brutality and needless cruelty is convinced he's on the right side, though he somewhat redeems himself by saving Leia's life. We also got some interesting minor characters too, like Basso, the bald-headed guy from Raltir who despite his no-nonsense merciless nature towards the imperials is a staunch freedom fighter. Then there's Mouse, a Duros rebel who had a very minor part and sacrificed himself for his mission, but was actually a pretty amusing and funny guy while he lasted. Most interesting of these characters was "Able," a clone trooper who never got word that the Clone Wars ended, who after being attacked by the Empire was persuaded to join the rebels. None of these characters (cept the ones who died) got any closure, so I do hope they return someday...

I've shown my Queen of the Night before, but not in action. Joining her is what I originally intended to be Winter, Leia's aide and the wife of Tycho Celchu. I suppose she still could be, but now to me they're the physical incarnations of light and dark sides of the force.

Great rendition!  I like the use of the Mandalore the Ultimate chest shield; nice conversion into the armor for your 'alter-ego' in figure form!

Title: Maximum Rebo
Post by: halnarthax87 on July 06, 2011, 08:11:45 PM
This might be cheating.
Why? This isn't made from any figure parts, it's not even plastic. I could never find a Max Rebo figure, and I really liked the guy, so I made him out of putty and painted him. Hope you like it.  0//

And some more. Featuring the naughtiest attire a Jedi can find (seriously, looks more like Space Mutiny [mst3k] than Star Wars). And of course I've further tweaked Mr. Narthax to look more like Jaden Korr from JA.
And the other pic is a tangent of my fanfic universe in which Narthax goes bad and takes up the reigns of the Imperial Remnant and unifies several warring imperial warlords against the Republic. Unlike other self-righteous imperial baddies, Narthax has gone completely mad and knows full well what he's doing isn't about stabilizing and bringing order, he simply wants to do evil for fun. Could explain why now he has an abnormally large lightsaber.

Title: No one expects the Imperial Inquisition!
Post by: halnarthax87 on November 14, 2011, 10:02:40 AM
Our chief weapons are surprise. Surprise and fear are *two* weapons are surprise and fear and ruthless efficiency... oh you know the rest. The Imperial Inquisitors pop up now and then in EU material, outranking even the Emperor's Hands as force sensitive agents of Palpatine, under the direct control of Vader however. Palpatine's ultimate goal was to replace all heads of state, anyone in high command with them (Surely not Thrawn?? NO!). They're job is essentially hunting down Jedi and converting them into dark side adepts.
Some of my own inquisitors... a few altered from before, and this lovely statue of Palpatine.

Post by: halnarthax87 on August 24, 2012, 01:00:26 PM
Dark Knight Rises at last came out and lived up to my expectations mostly. Always loved Bane, combining brains and brawn to the extreme, and the movie's portrayal did not disappoint. I wanted to call this guy Darth Bane but... that's taken. I thought he looked enough like Bane.
My other repaints today are a few wuvable ewoks. I finally found the new versions of Logray and Wicket, so it's repaints for the other guys! Only one is meant to look like an actual character, the little scamp Paploo who stole the speeder bike. Enjoy.

Title: Heart of Ice
Post by: halnarthax87 on September 10, 2012, 11:58:01 AM
Good ol' Ysanne "Iceheart" Isard, the constant thorn in Rogue Squadron's ass, but the reason they acquired Soontir Fel. Props to you for being that horrible a person, Ysanne, turning the Empire's greatest hero into a rebel.
But anyway, I finally obtained the Fel Isard Comic pack. Overall, excellent I say... but as always I have nitpicks and won't stand for little mistakes on figures. Excellent paint application on the face, eyes mismatched and everything, almost a perfect figure.
First problem, the rank bars. As the body is basically another Juno Eclipse repaint that means the rank bars are quite inaccurate. Isard always had a sort of upside down admiral insignia. So, I painted them blue and added my own row of red bars underneath.
Second problem, the hands. She's got Juno Eclipse gloves, with the open backsides. Just no. And furthermore, I don't think I recalled Isard ever once wearing gloves. So we fixed that.

If Indiana Jones can warrant a young chronicles, why not Narthax? What do you mean he's not remotely famous?
Here we see the outcast youth Narthax, who after escaping Order 66 hid amongst the Jawas in the deserts of Tatooine where he has all sorts of crazy adventures.
Also included is a different perspective of the Noghri I posted a while ago, and a better quality photo.
And since I just don't do nearly enough imperial officers, here are some more! One of which is meant to look like Blackadder.
Title: Lord Hethrir
Post by: halnarthax87 on October 09, 2012, 07:45:53 PM
Imperial procurator of justice, the dark jedi trained by Vader, Lord Hethrir, the true leader of the Empire Reborn faction superior to Jerrec, Desann and Tavion. A shame he never even got a mention in the Jedi Knight series... well, I'm sure he was retconned as their leader later on.
You know, it's amazing just how many apprentices Vader actually had in the EU...
Title: Vornskr
Post by: halnarthax87 on December 20, 2012, 02:30:50 PM
I'd hate to look a Vornskr in the teeth again...
Myrkr's top predator, the force sensitive canines that menaced Mara and Luke, and are kept as pets by Talon Karrde.
He's a warg from the Hobbit figure line, as soon as I saw him all I could think was how could I put a Vornskr tail on him? I ended up wrapping wires in rubber bands and painting it. It's fully articulated, quite fun, it looks kinda meh but I think from far enough away it looks convincing.

Title: Light and Dark
Post by: halnarthax87 on May 08, 2013, 07:37:17 PM
The heroes and villains of my work in progress.
Kyrsta Starwind witnessed the destruction of her homeworld Alderaan, and unlike Leia Organa she pursued a violent and self-destructive vendetta, killing any imperials she could get her hands on. She and started a pirate crew who attacked imperial military targets, but her relentless attacks often destroyed innocent lives as well. After the rebel victory at Endor she continued her personal war until she was discovered by the New Jedi Order who recognized her enormous potential for the force, and also the dangerous path she trod.
She was tempted to the dark side by Kuar Covan, a force vampire (draining the living force from his victims), and his army of dark jedi. Recognizing Kyrsta's desire for revenge and unchecked anger he drew her into his faction, hiding the truth from her that he and his disciples were still fanatically devoted to Palpatine and dedicated to wiping out the New Republic and finding a way to once again resurrect Palpatine...
After nearly falling to the dark side she at last came to grips with her past thanks to the help of her friends in the Jedi Order and became a strict practitioner of the light side, specializing in the rare and dangerous technique of sever force. Vowing never to kill again, she instead defeated Covan by severing his connection to the force permanently.
Oh, and Narthax figures into her story there somewhere.

Whew. Well. While customizing figures of course you're left with a lot of leftover parts. And from those shards come some of your best creativity... or these!
In order:
Kyrsta and her father Torc. The two had a falling out after she left Alderaan for the imperial academy. After her disillusion with the Empire she returned home only to see her home world destroyed, believing him dead. In fact he spoke out against the Emperor and was forced to abandon his old life and become a pirate.
Most of Torc Starwind's pirate crew.
Imperial nobility and gentry.
Aaaand you've seen most of these before but hey, here they are again.
Title: New and Old Episode II: Attack of Stuff
Post by: halnarthax87 on October 26, 2013, 06:54:54 PM
Continued...
Narthax's true father, a Jedi who survived the purge and hid on Myrkr where he tried to resurrect the Jedi Order but grew consumed with revenge and molded his son into a tool of revenge.
And here he is as an older guy. When Narthax refused to follow his father's plans of terrorism (colliding imperial capital ships with Coruscant), his father wiped his memory and doomed him to wander the galaxy with no knowledge of his prior life.
A mysterious figure who follows Narthax and seems to be attempting to restore his memory. A friend or foe from his past? Yes. Yes it is.
Kyrsta's new look. Thank you new Mara Jade figure.

Kyrsta in her imperial uniform and as a pirate/rebel.
Admiral Daala.
Imperial agent/assassin/Emperor's Hand. Daniel Craig? Kinda.
And this one is the Mara Jade head with her hair wig removed and the fantastic 4 wig attached. I kinda like it. Don't worry, I obtained 2 of those Mara Jade figures before they reached absurdly high prices online. One is still intact. Until I improve it... man does that head bother me.

Title: The good and the bad
Post by: halnarthax87 on December 06, 2013, 09:02:43 AM
… and he's also ugly.
First off after making a few other figures that involved hair transplants, I realized this one looked a bit like Jaina Solo. So she became Jaina Solo.
And then there's Palpy, in a newly sewn hood since hasbro just won't make a proper one. His hands are taken from the vintage Darth Sidious and repainted. The head was tricky, I thought the sculpt on the saga collection version was probably one of the best sculpts and paint jobs on an Emperor figure, so I hollowed out his head and put it on a better body.

Title: Ahsoka's future
Post by: halnarthax87 on July 05, 2014, 02:53:14 PM
I'm about 99.99% sure that Ahsoka will be featured in Star Wars Rebels in some capacity. Same writers, she's alive, it's pretty inevitable. I'm just hoping it's a cool story. My personal hope is that we'll meet her early on but we won't know it's her... we'll get a few subtle clues and maybe a season or two in we'll get a shocking revelation. If you're a fan of Marble Hornets, I'm hoping Ahsoka we'll be a bit like the Hoody character, basically a cryptic, somewhat threatening but also strangely helpful masked figure who is later revealed to be an old friend.
TO THAT END... here is Ahsoka's disguise in my little fan fix in progress, in which she'll team up with Rex, who now knows Fives was telling the truth about the inhibitor chips and removed his and went awol (the way his character arc was heading anyway I'm pretty sure), and of course Lux as a little team trying to investigate how Order 66 was orchestrated. And of course she's aged since Clone Wars so I tried to make her look like the vision in the Mortis arc as an adult. Thank you Shaak Ti for donating your lekku.

Post by: halnarthax87 on July 09, 2014, 07:38:32 PM
And continuing with my little post Clone Wars tale, Rex never could shake the harrowing final moments of his brother in arms Fives. After Order 66 and the attack on the Jedi Temple, for which Rex was present, he realized Fives had been right. Ashamed at his actions he removed his inhibitor chip and set out to find the one Jedi he knew was still alive...
His new getup is based on his look in the Onderon Rebels arc.

We've seen imperial ladies in the EU, but they tend to be rather high ranking which is surprising given the Empire's sexism. You'd think they'd more often be low level functionaries like this.

While not nearly as common I can see it more in the EU as authors tend to be a bit more "against the grain" then the major holywood producers making movies for general audiences.. I wish we had an Admiral Daala figure and other prominent Imperial women in their prime of course.

That said the custom is awesome. Can you say what body/head you used for it?

oh and hot women fighting for the empire at any rank is approved.

Title: Re: Narthax's Customs
Post by: halnarthax87 on July 21, 2014, 01:25:56 PM
It's kind of complicated. What they did was separate all the Star Wars EU material into the categories "Canon" and "Legends." Canon is what has basically been stamped and approved by Lucas, and everything else in the Legends category is up in the air. They're sort of saying that they won't erase it from Star Wars history... but it may not have actually happened and is therefore more of a... well, legend.
Frankly, I'm not against them cleaning up the EU. We tend to forget that for every good novel or comic there has been a lot of sub-par, questionable, and occasionally flat out bad stuff put out there. Not gonna name names but FORCE UNLEASHED II... and I'm not so keen on the first one either. As long as the Rogue Squadron, Thrawn Trilogy, basically everything big up to the Yuuzhan Vong invasion I'm in favor of keeping... I have to say after the whole Vong thing started and they started killing off characters just for attention (Chewie, Anakin, Ackbar, Mara, Jacen, etc...) well I say I'm fine with all that being cut out.
We live in an Expanded Universe where Mara Jade dies, but Admiral Daala is still alive... not okay with me.
Title: Strangest custom ever
Post by: halnarthax87 on August 02, 2014, 05:39:29 PM
As a lad of 9, I remember the thing that struck me most about Empire Strikes Back was... Yoda sounds just like Grover!
I give you Master Elmo.
I actually had a bizarre dream in which Vader demands entrance to some imperial prison cell, but the officers protest claiming the most annoying thing in the galaxy is detained within. Then a bizarre little red fuzzy humanoid bursts out and rampages through the base. And I thought huh... looked like Elmo. That'd be kinda funny if I made it into a figure.

I can see your point,... but I was never a Mara Jade fan, while she was an ex-imperial agent I liked that she took that side but the neutralism that Tallon Kardde had kinda irritated me and it bled over to her character.

Admiral Daala wasn't award winningly written by KJA thats for sure, she dissapeared for years after turning over Imperial control to Paeleon, but returned later I think as an older woman... meh... Daala surviving isnt that big of a deal to me, I'd prefer seeing other women not turn from the empire as Juno Eclipse/Deena Shan did. Too often women in the empire were used as mere unique plot markers, like Isarde in the Rogue Squadron comics instead of showing the grit and will it would take for a woman to go through the ranks of the heavily sexist empire. Oh for that matter use that sexism for thier own advantage. *shrugs* I dunno, just thinking out loud.

One of these days someone needs to make the pilots from Otaking77077's 2 min star wars anime clip and give them backstories.

Title: No one expects the Imperial Inquisitor!
Post by: halnarthax87 on August 16, 2014, 06:31:44 AM
I don't know about you, but I was pretty stoked about the Inquisitor since he was first announced, and continue to be so as the character keeps receiving more good news. I know a lot of people cried, "Why can't we just have Vader?" or "There can only be two Sith!" or whatever else. I knew there were plenty of reasons Vader couldn't be the primary antagonist on Rebels. For starters, the main characters aren't important enough for Vader's attention, and if he did come after them it would be a very short series. Otherwise Vader would turn into a bumbling cartoon villain who gets foiled every week.
Second, the Inquisitors have been a part of the EU for a while and I think it's awesome that we get a Star Wars version of the Spanish Inquisition. My only hope is we get a "No one expects the Imperial Inquisition." at least once...
Plus, he's Jason Isaacs and looks like Voldemort. Could we ask for more from Vader's henchman?

Oh, uh, I think he was basically done. I did paint his eyes orange but that's barely noticeable, so yeah he's essentially finished unless I forgot some small detail.
In the meantime enjoy this Gamorrean juggernaut. I saw this Hulk figure and was reminded of a Star Wars Tales comic called "Three Against the Galaxy" which was about a rather deep gamorrean having an existential crisis who forms an unlikely friendship with a human girl and a jawa. He was also huge and ripped, so yeah. The body is 100% not customized, but I made that gamorrean head myself from sculpy.

Title: Agent Kallus and the Muttonchops of Doom
Post by: halnarthax87 on September 09, 2014, 04:18:14 PM
It appears we're going to have our share of goofy incompetent imperial officers on Rebels. And I wouldn't have it any other way. I am glad however we get a few more intimidating and serious imperial bad guys like Kallus to balance the equation. From what I've seen and heard, he's going to be a pretty intense villain. I thought I'd make a version of him... that crazy gun of his was tricky. I also improved upon my Inquisitor. Enjoy.

Oh I love the animated look they've come up with for this show... better than Clone Wars actually... the sharp angular features on peoples' faces always bothered me stylistically speaking. It wasn't bad just not my preference. I love this new Ralph Mcquarrie painting come to life look. In terms of FIGURES... yeah I agree. I love a lot of the Clone Wars figures but they clash with the more realistic ones, which is why I'm grateful for the vintage and black series giving us realistic looking Ahsoka and whatnot.

I still think these are gonna be a bit too cartoony looking for most of em as far as what I like, but I might pick up a few like Chopper, probably a Stormy, definitely an AT-DP Driver, etc.

I still hope they make em in realistic style though, now for that I would be all in!

Pardon the title. I cobbled together a more "realistic" Rex, complete with jetpack. He and Ahsoka will take on the galaxy together after the Clone Wars... after Ahsoka sings her personal rendition of "Let it Go."
DISNEY!
No seriously I think that song is rather befitting her departure from the Order...

Remember my big bad trandoshan? I made him better.
Apart from the obvious armor, flamethrower, and the like, I made his feet more trandoshan and gave him those little feathery things ala Clone Wars

Title: Fulcrum
Post by: halnarthax87 on November 28, 2014, 04:40:22 PM
Spoilers (kinda) ahead
So... if you've been keeping up with Rebels and remember my earlier hopes for Ahsoka's entry onto the show... looks like I may have gotten my wish. By now it's a pretty popular theory that Hera's mysterious informant is in fact Ahsoka, and the evidence is quite compelling. When pitched upward their voice sure sounds like Eckstein, that symbol is kinda like Ahsoka's forehead marking, and it just makes sense that Ahsoka would be a reclusive freedom fighter by this time. I said I had hoped she would appear incognito, friendly yet also threatening, and we'd have to wait a while for the reveal, ala Marble Hornets. And wow, if this Fulcrum person is Ahsoka, kudos to the writers on reading my mind/stealing my ideas again!
Anyway, here's adult Ahsoka in disguise with that symbol etched on her mask.

Title: Tarkin's new digs
Post by: halnarthax87 on March 17, 2015, 08:12:10 AM
When standing amongst other officer figures, the vintage Tarkin figure always looked a little out of place with his dark green tunic. A little cutting and pasting on Captain Needa and we have one grand looking Moff Tarkin.
Title: Re: Ahsoka's future
Post by: halnarthax87 on March 17, 2015, 12:55:52 PM

And I can't believe how close I was.

Thanks! The recipe is just the vintage Tarkin, Captain Needa body which is trimmed down a bit in height, and the Power of the Force Tarkin for the rank bars and code cylinders. The only real tricky part was the collar which I swapped from the Tarkin body to the Needa body and did a little repaint, but that's optional I suppose. I just thought it looked right.

Title: Articulated Inquisitor
Post by: halnarthax87 on March 22, 2015, 06:50:07 PM
I loved that sadly short-lived Inquisitor. Such an eloquent and articulate villain. Sad that Hasbro hasn't made figures as articulate as of late. This is my first venture into adding more articulation to figures with only 5 points of articulation. Now he has knees, pivoting elbows and swivel wrists. For what I thought would be disastrous actually turned out decently. When I'm feeling more ambitiously confident I'll try to add ball joints to his shoulders... but that could ruin the figure so I may hold off.

Why yes. Yes it is. That tarkin figure I made earlier left me with a few spare parts so I made Konstantine. I just missed on the sideburns.
I'm hoping we see more of him in season 2, and with them introducing a growing rebel fleet I think we will. You don't create a character with a name like Kassius Konstantine and just have him be a background character for one season...

Regarding the Inquisitor.  Do you have a back up figure?  That might help with the insecurity.

Title: Ahsoka
Post by: halnarthax87 on October 10, 2015, 02:23:05 PM
My hopes for Ahsoka were realized with Star Wars Rebels, a cryptic seemingly helpful but slightly dangerous entity turns out to be our wayward padawan. And then they were good enough to give us an action figure of her... sad figures aren't what they used to be in terms of articulation. I fixed that.

Well, it's been a while, but I do have a fair amount of customs I've been working on in that time. Here are just a few rebels to start off, more to come. One barabel and his human lady pal, a former imperial. Oh, and I finally figured out how to take decent quality photos.

Title: Canon(ish) Thrawn
Post by: halnarthax87 on November 22, 2016, 12:28:13 PM
So wow, Rebels has introduced this new villain called "Grand Admiral Thrawn" this season. He's just kinda boring cuz he doesn't hav uh lightsaber or da force or nothin, I think the villain should be General Grievous with the force. Dis blue guy has sith eyes but he's boring.

...

No, in all seriousness I screamed like an excited little schoolgirl when I first saw the trailer with Thrawn (as did most of you I'm sure). I gotta say, so far he's the best thing about the season. While the characterizations of our main cast this season has ranged from underused (Zeb) to out of character (Hera) to just kind of obnoxious (Ezra), to actually pretty good (Kanan, Sabine) the most intriguing aspects have been what's been going on with the Empire in the background. Thrawn, true to his novel counterpart is toying with the heroes in an attempt to gain as much knowledge about them and their psychological blindspots as possible. Makes me hopeful that things are about to get really bad for the heroes, since every tiny victory they've achieved has been purely because Thrawn has allowed them to win.
Sorry, we're here to talk about plastic. The moment I try to just write a short intro about what I've made, I get in depth about the character...
Anyway, the comic 2-pack Thrawn figure always bothered me for a number of reasons. For one, his uniform is inaccurate (I know it was drawn that way briefly in the comics) with the seam of his tunic going straight down the middle, and he was also just way too short for a guy who's supposed to also be physically imposing as well as an intellectual giant. I also really preferred the head sculpt from the Power of the Force line. So, here you go, the best of both worlds. I gave him the new canon epaulets BUT I patently refuse to give him pupils.
Seriously, I have to believe the crew behind Rebels were like, "Okay, we're giving the people what they want with Thrawn, but how can we mess with them in some small way... I know! Let's give him visible pupils!" I'm still holding out hope that somehow his eyes start glowing and his pupils disappear later in the season...

Whaddaya do with spare parts as a customizer? Why, make Saw Gerrera's Partisans of course. Mostly.
The Lasat is a combo of Beast and the Ralph Macquarie Chewbacca. In my head canon he's the one who executed all of Agent Kallus' squad.
And of course bald Saw. Redlettermedia once suggested Forest Whitaker would have been a better choice to play a Jedi than Samuel L. Jackson. Well, I can safely say that Samuel L Jackson probably would have made a better Saw Gerrera than Forest Whitaker.
And yes... in my head canon, Saw Gerrera slices off imperial prisoners' heads with a buzz saw called Gerrera's saw. Because, you know, he's a terrorist.
I'm not sure why these photos are posting sideways and upside down... apologies.

Up next, my own imperial mad scientist... who yes, looks an awful lot like Admiral Screed. Specializing in cybernetics he experiments on imperial prisoners turning them into obedient cyborg super soldiers. Oh, and the other guy. In the latest Marvel Star Wars issue Ashes of Jedha part 1, we're introduced to Commander Kanchar, who is this crazy sinister mash of Captain Hook, Tee-hee and I'd say... Ernest Hemingway? Well, anyway, he's pretty badass so I just had to make him.

So uh… last time I posted was pre The Last Jedi…

I liked it a lot. The fandom reaction sent me into a spiral of depression rivaling Luke’s… perhaps that’s why it spoke to me.
Ah well. Let’s see… my reactions to all things SW since 2017 are as follows…
The Last Jedi: Liked it a lot and it continues to grow on me. I think I almost love it now.
Solo A Star Wars Story: That was fun.
Star Wars Resistance: Oh yeah. That exists.
Clone Wars Season 7: Still crying. In a good way.
The Rise of Skywalker: I didn’t hate it.
The Mandalorian: What do you think… … … (It’s great)
The Bad Batch: Fun as hell.
Book of Boba Fett: … might be the definition of a guilty pleasure for me.
Kenobi: Ups and downs, but the ups far outweigh the downs for me.
Andor: The best Star Wars thing since 1977 and yes I’m counting ESB so DON’T ASK… heresy I know… but that show left me SHAKING
Anyway, that about brings us up to speed. Let’s see… I made my Commander Kanchar look slightly better.

Hi. I still customize stuff believe it or not 😅
Mandalorian season 3 gave us that cool little scene as a preview of what’s to come with all these imperial warlords, every one of them with their own customized uniforms and all clearly plotting to be the next emperor. I figured why not get a little creative.

I should do this more often.
Post, I mean.
I still customize figures a lot, I just stopped feeling the need to share for some reason…
Anyway… (insert rank here) Gideon receives the darksaber after the Mandalore purge.
… and I guess he makes Vader angry (as you do as an officer of the Empire) and gets a throat hug… and in that moment makes it his life goal to become a force user.

Seriously, I love the idea of a power mad non force user wanting to artificially make himself force sensitive… which they explored a bit in Mando season 3 but I just wish we’d have gotten more… … and while that death scene seemed pretty final I’m still not convinced we’ve seen the last of Gideon… they established he has a bunch of force sensitive clones of himself so it’s entirely possible that Din and Bo didn’t get ALL of them…
