alright lets get some ideas running about!
we can do a poll to determine what are next contest will be. we can shuffle ideas and put them in a long list and then cross them off if we don't like them. i'll submit a few ideas
space taxis
jaster mereel era mandos
farmers on tattooine
normal pedestrian
jedi from geonosis " can be movie jedi "
death star builders
holonet news cast
deathtroopers i.e crawlers,no heads, one arm, etc,
old republic sith
imperial in grey uniform
coruscant guard in ep3 armour

I'd like to see more specific contests... some of these are very specific.
Broad contests are great but specific ideas push people to go at the same project from different angles... and they can be judged more fairly. Since the contests would be more specific, the judging would be more specific as well...
of course, the broad scoped contests we've been having lately usually bring in more entries as more people are able to contribute...
perhaps we should have a few "just for fun" contests...
or even some "VS" contests where several people all sign up for matches, then we battle it out in very specific challenges until one customer is crowned the champion, no prizes except the title?
in fact... I realy like that idea. Having some kind of competition lined up where we have people enter their names into a "pot". Out of that pot they are lined up, bracket style, against a random component. They are given a month to complete a SPECIFIC custom character or idea and the winner of that match-up moves on to the next bracket. This continues for however long it takes until there are only 2 or 3 customizers left and they duke it out over an epic finale custom project....
In this senario I think a panel of impartial judges (at least 3) should be named for the entire run so that it doesn't turn into a popularity contest making it unfair to any match-ups...

A SW Mech Suit Contest is a great idea!!! So is the Jedi from Geonosis, and I really like Spudafett's Battle Scenario...that could be so much fun :D
How about a dio contest where the theme is The Planets of SW or we pick a certain planet, but I think if you leave it open we could see some really cool dios

Oh I would love to see a Diorama themed contest too. Great idea Jenn about the planets. Wouldn't it be cool to do some type of raffle where folks got a planet at random? Just thinking out loud. Still, if I didn't get Illum or Hoth I would be bummed.
Great ideas here though. Still love the thought of a SW Mech Contest or Mech period contest.

I would love to see a mech suit type theme. The only problem with that is not everyone has the fodder to get involved. I also love Jenn's idea of pick a planet and include at least 1 custom figure. It leaves many options open and ones that want it to be elaborate can take it as far as they want. The lottery idea sounds fun to me but some may not like it if they draw a CW specific planet and they do OT stuff and vise versa. Not sure about Jedi from Geonosis, Target released many of them...hmmm i think it needs to be a broader theme for max participation. What does everyone else think about these 3 themes?

I agree with you on the Mech Suit idea L.E., I didn't even think that it maybe hard to find the parts needed and not everyone may have this type of fodder!
I've had this idea for awhile, but didn't bring it up because it was too broad...what about a Cultures of SW Theme? You could pick a specific culture from the series such as wookie, jedi, sith, mando, etc. and make a custom based on that. It could be an original character or one we already know.

I'd love the see a Children of Star Wars contest. I was going to sponsor it over at the blog, but was just waiting to come up with a prize. I hate that the Clone Wars is supposed to be a kids toy line but they don't produce any of the really cool children of the Clone Wars as action figures like Jaybo Hood & Numa.

I want to see Clones ;D ;D ;D I love this guys ^^ Diorama !! Clones !! Customized Clones or general custom troopers (stormtrooper,clones, drivers .. ). Perhaps a new legion creation (you know what i mean - like 41th elite corps BUT a new, not ever mentioned legion) with a little background story, some pics of their operations etc. That would be cool 8)
F.e. the 189th elite corps "ewok butchers" - this legion was on endor since the very beginning of the clone wars. After the clone wars they specialiced on the forest battle- they were at the front at the Battle of Kashyyk. It was a elite corps that absolved sepcial mission like sabotage,rescue missions and assasination (like rc´s ). After the battle of endor the survivors work in the underground and sabotage rebel factorys.....
I hope you know what i mean :) (of course with a lot of pics :D)

How about a DROIDS universe custom contest. I guess I am thinking about this more because my little girls have been watching these videos more lately. It would be only limited to the characters in the 80's Droids cartoon series. However, it was a big universe, even in that series.
Anyway, just a thought I wanted to throw out there.

How about just a "build a droid" contest? Build any kind of droid you can think of from any parts you can find. I think that would be fun and different.

Gorm was an EU character; he was a cyborg with a Trandoshaan arm. Pretty intimidating character, and one I've always wished would get a figure.

I'd love to see a mash-up contest of some kind... maybe super hero/villain and star wars universe combined, or movie/tv show characters made into action figures, or straight star wars mash-up like jawa stormtroopers or Jedi Generals of the Rebellion... just a thought

I like AFE's idea. How about something like CSI: Corellia? Or Law and Order: Coruscant? Or Escape from Kessel? Or Gone With The Solar Wind? Or Enter the Krayt Dragon? Or Nightmare on Elom Street? Or Jawa Pawn Stars? Or Iron Chef: Alderaan?

We have had a contest in the works for awhile, actually put it on hold to run the Acris Contest, but Spry is gonna work out the details on this one after he runs the next one. I too think it is a great idea.

I know a certain Wookie Gal who love that idea. Sprywalker is good friends with that dynamic duo too. Perhaps that can be worked out further down the road. Perhaps we could even enhance it to any Wookie Custom Figure, Vehicle, or Diorama. Once again folks Spry and the Clonehead are our contest coordinators so it wouldn't hurt to run your ideas by them too.
Perhaps we can even come up with a few ideas and vote on them here.

Good idea Shawn. Just so everyone knows the upcoming contest idea is inspired by Ralph McQuarie. I would like to see us reimagine one of his figures or vehicles. You could create a character from one of his paintings, the possabilities are endless. What to you guys tink? We could group these ideas together and vote. I want to do whatever will get the most entries.

Listening to George, Endor was at first going to be the Wookie Homeworld I do believe, but costs made them scale things back so it makes sense they kinda look like that. I wonder what a McQuarrie Chewbacca head melded to an ewok frame would look like?

LMAO I have gathered up about 15 Ewoks now offline and at the moment my work shed looks like a teddy bear picnic. I have been so busy tinkering around with them little guys, I can't stop thinking what to do next with them, its almost driving me mad, I have actually even been dreaming about damn Ewoks ???

Yeah, I'm defo going to buy that set. I took a good look at it after you told me about it, and I really like some of the Ewoks in that pack, esspecially the little one with the blaster on the far left of the pack. And it has lots of extra hoods and equipment. Thank god we have Toys R Us in England, I miss out on alot of the Target or Wall Mart exclusives.

I had another idea. Sith Witches. It's a very under-represented category of figures. There are plenty of examples from concepts, EU and the Clone Wars, yet Hasbro (until recently) has completely neglected them. We need Mother Talwin, Ventress as a Dathomir Assassin, the concept Sith Witch and Maghella. It seems like a really fun project, something we can go wild on like with bounty hunters.

Not bad ideas, we have to be careful with a narrow focus. We have a few ideas already for ones after this. Ole Spry and Clonehead been hard at work coming up with great new ideas. Stay tuned.

How about from Marvel to Dark Horse the greatest comic covers. Pick your favorite cover and recreate it.

Some nice ideas being tossed around so far, I was thinking of a few as well.
-Create your video game character, such as your Kotor or TOR character, Fallout or any other type of character you created for a video game.
-Create your favorite musician in Star Wars form such as a Zabrak Lady Gaga or Chiss versions of The Rolling Stones or something like that. That would be fun and challenging and take a lot of creativity.
-EU characters from any time (or more specific periods such as TOR or The Galactic Civil War and so on)
-Gender swapped core characters such as a female Han and male Leia (though I think I remember seeing this idea somewhere before)
-A contest using only the Power of the Jedi and POTF figures.
Just a few ideas to help contribute to the brainstorming, these contests are always so much fun no matter what the theme is though!

Franchise Mash-ups. Blend two or more of your favorite universes into one. 4" figs (solo or teams) and beasts of burden, small vehicles, mini dioramas welcome. New figs only, WIP shots only in the thread, no final reveals anywhere else but here first.

Scene can have 1 up to a max of 3 figures in it. Can use 6" Marvel figure(s), but must be SW themed and at least use Black Series figure head or body for one of the custom figures. What do you guys think?

Each artist has to pick a custom that they have always really admired, but that was made by artist other than themselves to try to recreate the figure and add it to their own collection. It's a great way for us to really push ourselves outside our comfort zones while at the same time giving us all the opportunity to add a much desired figure to our collections. 2. a Through the Looking Glass theme. All the good characters done as evil and vice-versa.
3. Gender switch. Make your favorite male character a female and vice-versa. I saw a female version of Han Solo on Pinterest that was really cool.
4. I do like trying Episode 7 figures, but we need more reveals from J.J. Abrams or else it'll get pretty boring.
5. Baby versions of Star Wars aliens. Piglet Gammies, or Rancorlings in diapers.

Just remember folks, the more restrictive you are in your theme the more likely folks won't participate in regards to getting participation. After doing these contests for a few years I can say we just haven't had too much success when we run those. The broader based ones always seem to go better as they offer so many more characters that can be customized.
Still, all ideas are welcome here. I will choose five of them to do our next poll after we finish this next custom contest.

That's a good point, if the theme is too restrictive, it will likely result in fewer customizers participating (not that we all have to be involved in each one). For example, I don't collect 6 inch or vehicles, so I wouldn't be in those challenges, but I welcome seeing what people come up with...

What about entertainers? We've musicians, dancers and theatre shows in the movies, what twist would people put on them?
It leaves it quite open for species, styles and number of figures involved, ie a solo artist or band, magicians, dancer(s), jugglers, etc.
Just figure not everyone in the universe carries a blaster or a lightsaber.
Would that be something people might be interested in doing?

Directors Cut

Halloween Extravaganza
Take a favorite character or feel from your favorite horror or thriller and make a Star Wars Villain: Bounty Hunter, Sith Lord, Crime Lord, Mercenary or just plain Scum! Universal's old movies, Freddy Kruger, Hammer Horror, Hannibal Lecter or if nothing else just an excuse to make another Zombie Trooper! I love Halloween!
