Thanks! It's great to be here.  I hope everyone takes a few minutes to read the text that accompanies my customs as the stories are just as important as the customs themselves :)

These are both spectacular and extraordinarily creepy at the same time!  Religious cults are super-intriguing; we just can't take our eyes off them!

Wow, I don't know where to start after seeing so many cool customs. I must say Eiko Skel is my favorite.

This guy is frikkin' awesome!  Nice use of the clone scuba body to give him the trooper look.  There's nothing better than Imps and aliens!

The New Republic troopers are phenomenal, but I have to say that Jahnda the Hutt is my fave of the whole bunch!  Who wouldn't love an armored Hutt???  that's right, nobody!   ;)

Your version of Batman is absolutely outstanding!  Futuristic, sleek, and definitely fits in the SW universe in this look.  I love the Knightwing droid: makes me kinda think that he'd use that tail in some menacing way (like how the facehuggers in Alien get their work done).  You've got a portfolio of work that is not only extraordinarily imaginative, but highly, highly interesting to boot.   Can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeve!
Title: The Spectre's Customs
Post by: Tamer on April 02, 2011, 04:14:06 AM
The Spectre's customs are a mix of a good backstory with a recipe so we (admins and mods) have decided that this is predominantely more custom so get ready for some custom viewing. There are tons of em here. I am gonna feature them on the fp little by little. Wow.

Holy crap, Spectre, this is going to take me a week to catch up on!  So many awesome customs, and I only got through page 2 so far!  I LOVE the tribbles, that is hilarious!

Thanks!

I feel VERY strongly that a custom should have a "reason" to exist beyond just "looking cool" so just about every custom I do has a fairly well thought out (to me anyway, your mileage may vary LOL) backstory. I have a ton of customs that I will be posting later today that (for the most part- my oldest work has very little in the way of write ups) all have their own stories or are part of linked stories, but are not part of my larger storylines that are already posted. There will be new "chapters" of the stories posted as I finish more figures, when they are posted, they will have their storyline title in the post heading so everyone knows where they belong.

I am glad that people are getting a kick out of my work and I am enjoying seeing the work others have already posted in the forum (I promise I will comment on your work eventually :) ).

The PPSh was a good weapon. My grandfather used a capured PPSh-41 during WW2.
Austria used the weapon until the 60s.

I'm not really sure where they came from. They were just 2 heads from my heads box that fit the neckballs and had matching skintones. They could be the heads you listed as I did have those figures at some point.

Thanks for the kind words on the Centurions, guys!

I had initially wanted to do them with actual modular accessories, but it didn't work out as the thin pegs kept breaking off when trying to switch out the accessories so I scrapped the ideas for additional weapons systems (for now anyway - I have an idea as to how to represent them without actually applying them to the figures but it's far in the future).

I actually assembled these guys back in late 2009 but never got around to painting them until this past weekend so it feels great to finally have them done :)

It's amazing how easily some figures come together and how well the parts work sometimes.  These are the types of Rebel soldiers we should've gotten more of from Hasbro---even though they'd be classified as "EU" (which I believe Hasbro thinks is the death-knell for selling figs)... ::)

Pretty cool!  This is a figure that I think is one heck of a sculpt and I like the color scheme you chose.  I picked up one of these purely for customizing, though it will be awhile before I get to it.

Thanks!

I didn't like the overall presentation of "SW Zombies" as depicted in "Deathtroopers" so I never read "Red Harvest". This series will be more of a straight up "Night Of The Living Dead"/"The Walking Dead"-style zombie story, following the rules set up for zombie behavior/traits/etc. in that series of films/comics (with just a touch of the non-silly "Resident Evil" stuff tossed in as they complement each other quite well.).

I have been wanting to do this series since 2005 but for some reason or another it never came to fruition until now :)

Death Troopers, I messed up my titles. Too many to remember, but I can see your points. I had a bit of a time thinking the zombies from that series were able to actually manipulate lasers and ship controls. I did like Red Harvest and the whole Sith angle though. I love zombie anything.

It was a great conversation. Erik was the designer of the Yoda's Starfighter toy and came up with the deco for the droid's head. We discussed my ideas for the body deco and I made the figure.

The only part I omitted was he felt it should be really dirty as he pictured Yoda riding arond on top of the droid constantly and not really taking care of it's cleanings LOL

I haven't known anything about Gorgons, yet. But as a fan of Warhammer (Fantasy, Lord of the Rings and 40k) I think they look great!
Since I am not focused on anything else of Sci-Fi/Fantasy your customs look as bizarre as they look interesting to me! Excellent work on all figures and creatures!

I have finally added the last custom figure that needed to be photographed to "The Spectreverse", a Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/Spectreverse/ ) devoted to my custom Universe's galleries!
There are still 11 custom vehicles that need to be photographed but I need to make a larger area to photograph them in, which I will do this weekend.

There are still several write-ups that need to be rewritten as they were lost to forum server changes over the years, but they will be redone in time. The stories are still in my head, I just need to type them all out again.

Please stop by, check out over 20 years worth of creations and please give the page a "Like" if you can.

Strange Spaceport Visitor

Spaceports across the galaxy play host to billions of sentients of all shapes and sizes every day. Multitudes of travelers including humans, near human species, reptilians, aquatic beings, insectoids and those with body plans that are almost inconceivable arrive and depart constantly. You never know what you will see on any given day.

Note: This figure is hollow. It was made from one of the shell-like vinyl cloaks from the "Star Wars" line (came with one of the daughters from the "Lucas Family" 4pk). Usually I work with far more subdued colors but I wanted something bright, cheery and metallic for a change. The tendrils are trimmings from several "G.I.Joe" Zombie-Viper "Compound Z" canister hoses and are each tipped with a drop of glow-in-the-dark green paint. I left the hose trimmings transparent to give the creature a mysterious, amoeba-like quality.

Green Orc Chieftain

Excerpt from "The Galactic Almanac Of Developed Species" (Fourth Edition):

Despite the relatively high level of technology that the majority of the Galaxy's citizens enjoy, not every planet in the Galaxy is as advanced as the more civilized worlds in the Core. Throughout our million-system Galaxy, there are scores of worlds that harbor less advanced native sentients. From the Jawas and Tusken Raiders of distant Tattooine to the savage Ewoks of the forest moon of Endor, less advanced "primitive" cultures can be found on many worlds that are best avoided by the sophisticated Galactic traveller.

Case in point: the distant world of Tolkien III, found on the very fringe of the Galaxy near the dangerous region of "Wild Space".

Tolkien III boasts no less than six different primitive sentient species and several different subspecies of same. The various sentient species resemble many of the horrific creatures found in ancient fantasy literature from across the Galaxy earning them the names of said fantastical beings: Orcs, Goblins, Ogres, Trolls, Gorgons and Gaunts.

The Orcs of Tolkien III can be divided into three major species , with each species having several subspecies. The three main species can be simply identified by the dominant color of their flesh: Brown, Green and White.

White Orcs tend to be quite large, 2.5 - 3 meters, and heavily muscled. They appear to be the dominant Orc species despite their relatively small numbers. White Orcs have been observed to be more intelligent than the other two species.

Green Orcs stand just over 2 meters and are split between two major subspecies, divided by their geography. Northern Green Orcs tend to be more heavily muscled while Southern Green Orcs tend to be slimmer, yet still athletically built.

Brown Orcs are most plentiful, but are the smallest standing at just under 2 meters. Brown Orcs tend to be less intelligent than the other two major species, but are brutal fighters and not to be underestimated.

Orcs in general are more technologically advanced than Goblins, having been observed in the use of simple mechanical devices (catapults and enormous artillery crossbows) as well as their use of ranged weapons like bolos and archery equipment.

Assassins' Guild: The Night Creepers

Night Creeper Assassins

The ancient order of assassins known as the Night Creepers has existed since the dawn of the Old Republic. Silent killers that can blend into the very shadows themselves, the Night Creepers are the best of the best.

Over the millennia, the Night Creepers have adapted, adding high technology to their ancient arts to become even more efficient killers. The modern versions of the Night Creepers wear a void black suit that masks their presence from even the best sensor packages. Their Onmi-Vision goggles allow them to see in any portion of the spectrum that they need to utilize to hunt their prey. Night Creepers employ incredibly efficient and deadly vibroweapons that can cut through even the densest armor.

Night Creepers are fanatically dedicated to their craft. No Night Creeper has ever been taken alive on the rare occasion when they fail to assassinate their target, nor has any body or any of their technology been recovered as their stealth suits completely disintegrate the Night Creeper and their weapons leaving only smoke and ash.

Those look like Maz Kanata's goggles:) I'm curious about the recipe as I really like how the figures turned out. Good backstory too!

Thanks!

These are practically no-paint customs as they are mostly factory parts. I just cleaned up some sloppy paint apps on the figure parts and painted almost all of the accessories.

The heads are from the "G.I.Joe: Rise Of Cobra" Flash (laser trooper) figure.

The bodies are "G.I.Joe: Rise Of Cobra" Rex "The Doctor" Lewis

5 of the goggles are from the "Sandstorm" versions of Luke and Han from the BAD line.

The 6th pair of goggles are "G.I.Joe" but I don't recall which figure they came with. I had actually wanted to do all 6 identically but only had 5 pairs of the "sandstorm" goggles LOL

The accessories aside from the tonfas are all "G.I.Joe".

The tonfas are custom resin casts from "Good To Go Customs" but they went out of busness almost a decade ago so finding more of them will be next to impossible.

I am glad you like the backstory as well, it is a mixture of the Night Creepers name from "G.I.Joe", some characteristics of the Hand ninjas from Marvel Comics (the bit about them self destructing, but it is mystic in the comics, not technological like in my story) and the rest I created.

The Three-Eyed guy's head is indeed "Space Precinct", but the Reptilian, while resembling another "Space Precinct" character is actually from Galoob's short-lived "Star Trek: The Next Generation" line (the "Selay"). The last head is from the "Outer Space Men" line. All 3 heads are casts from Krymmsynguardimmoral.

Unlike the Galactic Empire's "humans only" policies, the New Republic (formerly known as the "Rebel Alliance To Restore The Republic") allows all sentients to serve in their military and have equal rights regardless of race, creed, or planet of origin. Spaceport Technician (H'nemthe)

All across the galaxy, sentients of all species punch a chronometer to earn their wages.

This female of the H'nemthe species works as a technician in her local spaceport. Her hard work and technical knowhow keeps the spaceport's operations running smoothly.

NOTE: This figure came about when I received a headless TLJ Rose figure as part of a trade. Her height was exactly the same as M'iiyoom Onith, a figure of unusual stature that I happened to have a spare head from in my Heads Box. I replaced the lower portion of the arms with some "G.I.Joe" 25th Anniversary Zartan gloves and added some accessories for a quick, diorama background figure. The only painting I did was to repaint the brown portion of her hood as the Krazy Glue I used to adhere the head discolored the vinyl.
Title: Zileena Klovto - Thief
Post by: The Spectre on June 07, 2018, 01:28:03 PM
Zileena Klovto- Thief:

Zileena Klovto was kicked out of the most prestigious university in the galaxy after she broke into the school's primary mainframe and stole the answers for all of the current semester's final exams. She was caught when one of the students she sold the answers to was accused of cheating on the exam and gave up her name in exchange for not being expelled. Zileena was expelled but escaped criminal charges due to her wealthy father's intervention.

Enamored with the thrill of her crime, Zileena decided to make it her career. Stealing the only prototype of an experimental stealth suit made by her father's company and deleting all data of it's manufacturing process from their computers, she set out across the galaxy stealing not just for the money it makes her, but for the excitement.

Zileena's suit absorbs sensor scans making her almost invisible while breaking in and out of even the highest security facilities. Her natural aptitude with computers allows her to steal data and leave no records of her ever having accessed the systems. In addition to stealing data, Zileena will also take jobs which require her to steal physical items such as valuable artifacts, jewelery or artwork- but that will cost her employers an even heftier fee than what she charges for data theft due to the extra physical requirements of these kinds of thefts.

Zileena is wanted by law enforcement agencies across the galaxy and has even had to begin dodging the bounty hunters sent after her by a powerful crime lord she was hired to steal something from recently...

These are really great customs. The H'nemthe head on the technician body works very well - I wouldn't have thought of that. The backstory on Zileena is excellent:)  I'm curious about the recipe on her (I recognize the Kitty Pryde head, but not the body).

Post by: The Spectre on September 22, 2019, 03:21:25 PM
Spacers in Vacuum Suits:
Vacuum suits protect the wearers from the harshness of space. Spacers can often be seen wearing their vacuum suits while planetside or on space stations. The reasons for Spacers wearing their vacuum suits while not in the void of space can range from the wearer not being able to breath the same atmospheric mix as the place they are visiting, protection against unfamiliar airborne microorganisms, or simply due to the wearer wanting to conceal their identities...

The reflectiveness of the plastics and paint on the "Fortnite" base figures made photography difficult. At some point, I want to reseal the green/gray one's faceplate with Testors Glosscote. I was unable to do so tonight as my bottle of Glosscote was old and dried out so I need to get a new one.

Diorama elements made from found items: cargo crates.

I made these cargo crates out of Fanta orange soda caps. I sanded down the undersides to remove the small protrusions where the cap attached to the breakaway ring that holds them securely to the 20 oz. bottlenecks and then glued 2 of them together base to base. Eventually they will get painted but this gives you an idea of what they look like.

Projects like this are cheap ways to make custom sci-fi diorama elements from junk items you have or encounter every day.

Retro Styled Spaceport Visitors

Spaceports across the galaxy play host to billions of sentients of all shapes and sizes every day. Multitudes of travelers including humans, near human species, reptilians, aquatic beings, insectoids and those with body plans that are almost inconceivable arrive and depart constantly. You never know what you will see on any given day.

Note: This was an exeriment in using some of my wife's holographic nail polish to paint the figures' robes.

I wanted them to look like something out of old low budget sci-fi movies and television shows which often used "sparkly" material such as lame` for futuristic or alien costumes.

Thanks, I was shooting for something like you would have seen in the old "Buck Rogers" or "Doctor Who" era of low budget sci-fi.

I just used the brush that was in the nail polish bottle to apply the polish to the figures. I didn't want to ruin any of my good brushes, especially if the experiment didn't work.

Did you put the nail polish directly on the plastic of the figure, or did you lay down a clear-coat or something first? The polish dried correctly?

Swoop Rider Mercenary (Human)

Mercenaries can be hired in just about any seedy spaceport in the galaxy. Whatever your needs, from basic vibroblade wielding brutes to professionally trained ex-soldiers, if you have cold hard credits, you can hire as many mercenaries as you need (or can afford) to do the desired jobs.

This was a simple exercise to try and remove some of the cartoonier aspects of the "Fortnite" figures to make them better fit into the "Spectreverse". The "Fortnite" figures' larger, chunkier designs make finding appropriately scaled replacement parts difficult.

Made from the "Star Wars" "Mission Fleet" scale Kuiil and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Bala-tik heads.

After watching the entirety of "Star Wars: Droids" today on Disney+, I was struck by some of the cool, original designs used in the cartoon.

I used some spare Build-A-Droid parts and quickly whipped up these work-in-progress droids (still need painting) based on 2 of the more memorable astromech designs from the 2 part special "The Great Heep".

The spherical astromech with the single leg and antennae is the only one I was able to find a nice clear image of online.

Both droids have swiveling upper domes. The 2 legged droid has additional articulation at the ankles.

I will most likely not be following the colorways used in the cartoon and instead utilizing much more movie styled colors and weathering to make them fit in with the more realistic movie figures.

You can pause streaming video and use the snipping tool to cut and save pictures off the show if you are on a computer.  I'm going to have to take some time and watch those. I didn't realize they'd uploaded them as part of the vintage collection!  I saw that they'd uploaded the ewoks cartoon and movies.

As you all know, I am an action figure customizer.

I am from the "old school" and do kitbashing like the ILM guys did in the era before digital effects. So I am always looking for interesting "found items" (i.e. non-toy/model kit parts, often everyday household items) to use in my projects.

One of my favorite, more recent discoveries is this blue cap in the photos. It is the cap from the large sized Walmart brand Ibuprofen. As you may also know, I suffer from severe arthritis so I go through a lot of Ibuprofen. Walmart started using this design about 2 years ago and I have never shared this before for some reason so I am doing it now.

This cap will make for excellent diorama use, as either part of a larger tech device or as surface detailing on its own. It only comes in the one size as of right now. The smaller bottles use plain ridged caps like you would find on brand name bottles. It takes super glue and paint as well as most plastics do so it is ideal for model builders' needs.

I am lucky in that the arthritis is entirely in my lower body (lower back, left hip, both knees, right foot) from a car accident 14 years ago. My wrists and hands are perfectly fine :)

The arthritis in my lower back makes sitting, especially hunched forward like when painting, difficult though. I have to let up and stretch a bit every half hour or so.

Doing some very minor customization/modifications on the newer "Halo" toys while I watch tv and relax.

The new Grunt Mule figures suffer from a rather poor design in that they are supposed to carry 3 additional weapons on their backs, but with all of the Halo accessories having posts on their lateral sides, you can only really fit 1 weapon on the figure. By removing and relocating the posts to the dorsal sides of the weapons, I can now fully stock each Grunt Mule with a full compliment of armament.

I do, however, require several additional Covenant weapons to fully kit out all 6 of my Grunt Mules.

That's a great idea! A Mule should be able to carry a lot of gear, that was a design oversight. Six Mules is a lot!

Great thinking Dan. Off to share that on the front pages.

Man, I could so use a new HALO novel.

Did some minor accessory modifications to the "Halo" gravity hammers. I added pegs to the handles (donated from the SPNKRs from the Armory Set) so my Brute Soldiers can carry them on their backs as secondary weapons similar to how they would be carried in game. Only 3 of my 4 Brute Soldiers are so armed as the 4th gravity hammer went to one of my named Brutes as he could not hold his included Ravager rifle due to his forearm armor getting in the way.

What a great idea! It looks cool, too:) BTW - How do I join the CSOTC Society? I'm totally in for that (given that I don't believe I have customized one single clone ever!).

By virtue of never having customized one, you are hereby inducted into our order!

Thanks to some recent trades, I have filled almost all of the backpack slots for my Covenant Grunt Mules!

I still need 4 more weapons, which will be coming as part of a trade sometime next week, to complete this project!

Upgraded McFarlane Toys "Halo" Covenant Needle Rifle.

I replaced the painted opaque needles with transparent ones from one of the modern Jazwares/Wicked Cool Toys Covenant Needlers.

The modern needles are much more game accurate than the smooth, conical ones on the original piece.

"Halo" Covenant weapons racks.

I modified the weapons in the same manner as the ones I used for my Grunt Mules by removing the posts and relocating them along the dorsal line to better fit into the racks (the smaller pistols on the bottom had posts added to them as they did not have them like the rifles do). In the game, the weapons are stored laterally but the racks in the game are wider than the toys so the weapons do not fit properly when placed in laterally.

I still need 2 smaller weapons (either Manglers, Plasma Pistols, Disruptors or Pulse Rifles) to fill the empty spaces in the lower center racks but do not have any more spare Covenant weapons at the moment.

So sorry, I saw them, though a couple days later. They're packaged and ready to go (except postage), but I haven't been able to get to post office during their open times here (They're closed on weekends). I will get them in the mail tomorrow.

No rush at all, just wasn't sure if the message went through as there seems to be some kind of delay going on.

Thanks again :)

I took advantage of the awesome sale that Boss Fight Studio had recently for their Orc Conqueror bundle!

I finally got to open them up this afternoon. I outfitted a few of them with custom accessories: a custom helmet I made a few years back and some real metal weapons (with functional blades!) made for me by Car AR!

I just installed glass eyes in all 24 of my "Final Faction" Decimators.

I used 3 different, yet similar, colors as I did not have 24 of any 1 color.

I still have 6 more of the eyes on the left and may grab 6 more Decimators at Dollar Tree to use the last of those eyes.

Now I just have to decide on a colorscheme to paint them.

Such an improvement. I can't wait to see what color you go with for these. Or maybe multiple colors as a sort of hierarchy? Anyhow, off to share on the front pages.

Some 5 minute modifications while i watch tv:

I cut and rotated one of the downward facing tusks on these "Masters Of The Universe: Masterverse" Pig-Head figures to face upwards (there is a barely visable seam that needs to be puttied and then the tusk will get repainted) so both of them can look a bit different and not like clones. I have 2 more of these guys coming in the mail and will also make small modifications to differentiate them all.

The pink accents need to go, but otherwise they are great figures. The pink will be repainted copper or bronze, which should look good against the metallic blue armor. The pink straps on the shield will be painted to match the strap on his torso and the pink fur on the boots will be brown or grey.

In the second image, I combined parts from the left weapons to make the ones on the right. The weapons need to be repainted before they can be displayed.

I still haven't decided on a color scheme for the Decimators yet, I might just go for a more detailed version of their 2 tone purple, but I am also contemplating some designs based on real world insects.

Nice job twisting the tusk, I'll be interested to see what other "individuality" you can give them. I like what you've done with the weapons.
