re: The black-and-white Dark Jedi; I was inspired to use the model after noticing the similarities in tattoo designs between him and the Mother Talzin character who appeared in a recent episode of the Clone Wars series (though I also watched Indy and the Temple of Doom the other day - huzzah!)

What a stellar opening to your second Season of this Epic! That Kel-Dorian Sith looks very sinister indeed, and I can't wait to see him square off against some Jedi. I love the Mando logo on the Clone Commander's chest, too!

You won't be disappointed regarding the Kel Dor - he'll be taking on a lot of the Jedi's best and finest as the volume progresses.

Jules echos my sentiment that we absolutely think this type of art is absolutely sweet. It will always make our front page and we will make sure our house always has a guest room for creations like this. We just appreciate you sharing it with us.
That being said I too like the new Clone Commander. Him throwing that detonater right when that Sith Lord had our Jedi dead to rights was awesome. I can't wait to see where this goes. I am really liking that new hungry Sith fellow too.

Ok, sorry it took me so long it getting to this...
Let me tell you Kualan, this piece of work is a feast for the starving! Clones, Jedi's, Separatist Fleets, laser battles, Clones blowing up Sith..man o man are you doing things right or what!
Technically this piece of work really stands, what's more your writing is perfect for the format. You got the narration just right as was the flow of action. This really is a stunning piece of work. I just want to see more!
If I were to make one comment...and it's only a preference of mine rather than a nit pick, but why not try to experiment with blurring backgrounds in some of the close up shots of the characters, that way you'll get much more depth of field, and the figures will stand out more. I reckon it'll give your format a more Manga feel. (just an idea)
I know I've said it before, but it is a real privilege to have you here on the forum.

I agree with Jules in that the way the narration matches the action gives you a thrill as if you were actually witnessing a live action event. Great job, Kualan! This is really a cool chapter and a joy to read.

Thanks for your comments. Yeah, the narration element is the beginning of some experimentation into different narrative styles I'm trying out in this volume; whereas Volume One was pretty straightforward 'action as it happens', I'm hoping to include a lot more variety as Volume Two progresses, with in-character narrations, flashbacks, dream sequences, etc. There'll be more of this in Issue Two.

It's a good suggestion, and by a stroke of coincidence I've been playing with blurring backgrounds whilst making Issue Two (which is almost done!), but not quite in the way you described. I'll definately test it and see how it turns out when working on Issue Three though; suggestions like this are greatly appreciated, by the way, as it helps me improve the comic to be the best it can be!

Originally most of Issue Two was going to be dedicated to the battle in a 'Hoth'-style attack, but I realised for the sake of the story things had to move quicker to get to Zell and her character development. I promise there's lots more fighting and action on the way though :)

Hey Tamer I am inspired by Commander Recoil so much that I may have to make a custom figure of him!! If that is cool with Kualan of course. I really enjyed his speech he made to his troopers about how the Jedi and clones are part of a team. Thats was as awesome to me as him blowing up that sith guy!

Another brilliant chapter, for sure. I'd have like to have seen more of a battle between the Kel Dor and the Mandalorian, but I also understand the frame in which you must work as well. Looking forward to the next.
Originally I did plan a much longer fight between Kastrofa and the Mandalorian warrior, and it was going to be at the beginning of Issue Four rather than the end of Issue Three, but I moved it to this Issue when I realised that there wasn't much action and that it was mostly lots of talking and plotting between the characters, so I threw the fight in to liven things up a little. The downside to this was that it had to be cut down slightly, as I don't like making the issues too long as it can be off-putting for readers to trawl through too much at a time (though even with the cuts, at 30 pages it's still the second longest issue to date!).

I confess I wasn't aware of that when I made the panel, but by a stroke of coincidence you can see that the lightsaber actually penetrates the warrior's chest through the centre of the armour, where the plating is separated, so either Kastrofa was being very precise or very lucky (but of course, we know there's no such thing as luck ;) )

Wow...............Wow, Wow & Wow!
This really is a wonderfully written piece of work, your dialogue is so easy to read yet perfect for the characters. I loved the Palpatine office scene, perfectly put together. I really envy your skill, simply because I find it so hard to write and it is the story that is the hardest part to get right.
My favourite moment was when Yoda and Windu turn to Obi Wan with inferred expressions, a nice comic moment.
All-in-all this is a wonderfully polished and very enjoyable piece of creative work, I keep saying, we are privileged to have you here on our forum and with every new chapter I can only re-enforce the point.
I for one am totally hooked.

Thank you very much Jules; I agree with you totally about the story-writing itself being the hardest part to get right. I go through draft upon draft before I'm satisfied enough to start making an issue.
I'll do my best to keep up this quicker rate of production, but now that university has started up again it may cut into my time considerably, so an advanced apology if it takes a small while longer for Issue Four.
I do have a preview of the next issue though; with the Battle of Dorin getting underway, there's going to be a big slide in the action-dialogue ratio compared to Issue Three!

Wow, that issue rocked even harder than the last one. Yes, I would have liked a longer mando fight but understand why you shortened it. I love those mando designs. The helmet on the copper colored one looks like something I would like to build.

A very enjoyable chapter, I loved the character at the start and the way you introduced the story was superb.
I'm partial to space combat so this is my favourite chapter to date.There are some great goings on and you have set things up well for the next chapter.
Again the presentation is second to none.

I am telling you this just seems to get better and better. I would echco Jules' sentiment that this space battle has been my favorite so far till I get a ground battle with a Walker or two. I love the suspense and the plot lines in this and this new Sith is a great character. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Kualan, I am increasingly feeling that these pieces of work barely get the recognition they deserve, and your web-comic is a case and point.
I am totally immersed in your story, and the graphics are consistently srunning. I am amazed at the speed you churn these out, the quality is beyond enything else I've seen.

It would be nice to get our work 'out there' a little more, I agree, whether they be webcomics like yours and mine or fanfiction or graphic artwork, etc. I'm not really sure what 'channels' there are to go through in order to do so though - at the minute I only post the comic here, have a small advert on thewebcomiclist.com, and a mention on theforce.net forums.
Still, as long as the people who do manage to find it like what they see, I'll keep making them :) It's a hobby rather than a living after all, so enjoyment in creating something is my main motivation.
Thank you for the ongoing support, guys. So much was pushed out of this issue and into the next for time reasons I may have to make it a Siege of Dorin Quadrilogy instead of a Trilogy as originally planned :P

At the moment I do have a site (in my forum signature), but I admit it could do with sprucing up to a more 'webcomic'-like format; at the moment each issue is simply posted into a separate photo album, whereas I know most people prefer the layouts that more closely resemble an actual comic book. I'll have to look into finding such a format and applying it to the website. Does anybody have any recommendations?

I do agree with Art de Whil's take on the forums and loosing the work through the comments, but don't forget that there is also a completed works section here too that is locked so no comments are made and you can see everything in its entirety.

My only issue with creating a library is whether it's actually needed. There are already sections like it here, and I have always felt that offering too many options for the site visitor at the front end can be off-putting. You are trying to be all things to too many people.
Perhaps the Artwork and Graphic novel Forums could be combined into one, I know that a while ago I wanted them split, but that was before members like Kualan, Viper Aviator and Art DeWhill came along.
Now that we have a hardcore of artists it would be nice to pool everything together. Perhaps a links page could be accessible via a locked sticky post at the head of the forum rather than on the Front Page, that way it would build interest on the forum and attract people who are genuinely interested in the artistic aspect of Star Wars fandom rather than falling on deaf ears on a front page that is already full of tabs and buttons.
The simplest way to exhibit our work and the work of other artists on the site is to possibly have a page of links to the featured artists web sites or galleries. I'd be happy to work on the buttons and banners for the page and invite artists to exhibit.
I think the object of doing anything would be to attract more talent, and the only way to do it is to strengthen the forum, not dilute it. By having buttons and pages here and there you will only appeal to those of us who know how to access them.
That's my opinion anyway...

This is, by all accounts a proper comic book series and a seriously addictive read.
I love the way you put together your fight scenes, it all flows so beautifully. I wonder if there's a Jedi/Clone romance in the air as there is real chemistry between the two characters.

Glad you guys liked it; with the Battle of Dorin finally over, the spotlight can move onto the Mandalorians and the mysterious, suspiciously familiar-looking space station they've found.
After several issues of just sitting about, the Mandalorians will at last see some action in the next issue!

I have to confess it wasn't my intention to display a Jedi/Clone romance being born between Zell and Recoil, but the chemistry between them is definately intentional; although not romantic, there is a closeness between them. To Zell, Recoil is both the last remnant of her time with her late master and a replacement for the void left by her master and older brother (who's off fighting in the war) of a protective male figure in her life.
In turn, to Recoil Zell represents his last chance to fulfill his duty to Nomada; his is a case of 'survivors guilt' in a way. Having failed to protect his General, and having lost all the men under his command, Recoil sees Zell as his sole responsbility now. So in many ways the two characters are co-dependent on each other without even realising it.

Well I have finally had some time to read this and look at the great graphics.
Wow, Kastrofa underestimated Recoil and paid the price although somehow I doubt we have seen the last of him. That is some project they discovered in all those black holes. I can't wait to see how that pans out.
Just another great chapter. There does seem like some good chemistry between Recoil and Zell. I gotta wonder if her performance will promote her to Knight now. Great chapter Kualan.

I've just finished scripting the next issue, and as a consequence I have had to push Luminara's one-shot back another issue, so that hers will now be Issue Nine rather than Eight.
Not sure when I'll be able to get round to starting production on the next issue, but here's a few teasers over what's to come over the next few chapters:
- A character who recently appeared in the TCW show will make their debut.
- Zell is more important than anyone, including herself, realises.
- There are going to be numerous links to the Original Trilogy.
- Kastrofa has an intriguing past.
- The Sith and their Separatist puppets are not the only group out to see the Jedi Order fall.

I like the sound of putting in some OT, I would even recommend an OT vehicle like an Imperial Walker or some such character as a driver if the opporutinity presents itself. LOL! ;)

The next issue is dragging along a bit at the writing stage; I already have the basic plot of the entire volume mapped out, but I'm beginning to struggle to keep juggling the various sub-plots etc on an issue-per-issue basis - we're beginning to get into some complicated conspiracy-style plotlines, so it can get a bit hectic keeping on top of all the different agendas and secrets running around :P. I've already had to push poor Luminara's one-shot back another issue, haha. Hopefully I should have the next issue properly scripted out in time for 'production' to start this weekend.

To make up for the lapse in production, I've been working on making some new 'issue covers' for all the issues uploaded so far. They were partly inspired by Darth Sinister's work over in the Graphic Artwork section. The plan is to update the website's main page with a new cover every time an issue is uploaded.

Kaulan, I like the new cover design. Your story is wonderful. I believe (as someone has already mentioned) that you captured the character of Obi-Wan dead on. I would imagine these graphic stories take a little time to create, so thanks for using your time to do these!
You know, I've seen similar graphic stories before here and on other sites. I hate to sound like a dope but how do you do this? Everyone probably already knows except for me. Are these screen captures that you set up in a video game? The reason I ask is because I've wanted to try my hand at this for a while and haven't a clue how to begin.

Sure thing! The two main resources I use are:
http://jediknight3.filefront.com/ for models/skins/maps(locations) for the 'Jedi Academy' game. The 'Modview' software can also be found on that site.
and
http://empireatwar.filefront.com/ for the various ship and vehicles models, created for 'Empire at War'. A piece of software called 'ALO Viewer' is used for these models in the same way 'ModView' is used for the character ones.

The only downside is that I believe you need to own both games in question; for example positioning the character models in 'ModView' requires access to the original game's animation files. In turn, I believe a lot of the ship models require textures from 'Empire at War'.

Truly one of the best fan fics on the site and i look forwrd to seeing more in the future. Once again my friend well done. However I must say I dont like the character of Zell she seems a little to ashoka like for my liking but over all a superb fan fic.

No problem! Best of luck - it can be a little tricky at first getting the files into the right place (they need to be specific folders and subfolders for ModView to work) but if you have any difficulties I'll be happy to help!

Thank you very much, republiccommando. I'm glad you mentioned that about Zell; I knew as soon as I introduced her as the temporary new Padawan of one of the main cast that there were going to be instant parallels with Ahsoka, and tried to avoid the "Mary Sue" elements by giving her a less than impressive combat record (she gets her butt handed to her twice by Kastrofa :P) but I'll work on toning it down some more in future installments. I want to try and develop her as a separate character rather than an Ahsoka clone so it's good to know if I'm not being entirely successful in that regard.
The next issue, folks, will be the long-promised and oft-delayed Luminara Unduli one-shot! It'll be linked to Zakk's predicament on Caamas, but otherwise mostly detached from the rest of the volume's plot arc. I should have a issue cover ready to post as a preview later today :)

As I mentioned over in the Customs Figures board, I'm looking to include 'digitised' versions of Imperial Shipyards creations in the comic in future chapters. So far, Wraithnine and Mungo Baobab have kindly allowed me to feature some of their characters in the next issue, and I'm hoping to include some of ghostskull18's further down the line.
But if there's anyone else who has a character they think would fit in Tales From The Clone Wars and would like to see if I can create a 3D model version of them I'm open to any and all suggestions! Jedi and clones are the ones that will have the most opportunities to appear, but I'm happy to try anything from Dark Jedi to bounty hunters! I'm keen to branch out from just showing the same characters from the films and I thought, hey, what better to do that than to include the IS community?

Some of you may have noticed it's been a little quiet on the TFTCW front for the past few weeks. This has been due to the rush of end-of-year university work, but I can now reveal that it's all done and dusted! What does that mean? I don't think I can fit Golin Sasso into the next foreseeable chapters, however I believe Daggerthorn could have quite a prominent role in either the next chapter or the one after (at the minute it would be the next one, but depending how it comes out when I finish scripting them it might be moved back to the one after for time purposes). Glad you liked the rancor, that was fun to introduce, haha.

With your permission, wraith, I'd like to use Nep again in an issue or two nearer the finale of this arc (and with a speaking role this time of course XD). I don't know why, but I just love the look of the guy and would like to use him more. The same goes for Rothos Set, if Mungo wouldn't mind.

I didn't realise this was the first time I had used the LAAT/C, but now you mention it Tamer I'm just beginning to realise how little of the huge database of vehicle models I've used. Expect to see more of these in future issues :)

great issue again! Like Tamer I enjoyed seeing the dropship. I like how Luminara handled the Rancor by setting it free. I also enjoyed seeing Gree. His helmet was cool!

That was......AWESOME!!!
First off the writing was spot on, the way you switched between scenes, the dialogue all built excitement, and the conclusion was the perfect cliffhanger. Like the others have said, the Rancor scene was fantastic, especially the way Luminara dealt with thr beast! Like the way you cut the scene at the brutal part, letting the reader use his/her imagination.
Secondly the graphics... It seems as though you put extra effort into creative camera angles all of which create a cinematic experience. The shot of the shuttle approaching the station was a favourite... Man I could do with your program!!!
You are going from strength to strength...I thoroughly enjoyed every word and image. Definitely my favourite chapter so far!.

I will try to feature cameos for anyone who wants them at some point in future volumes, but I fear the quote is "full up" for the rest of Volume Two.
I'm currently having some technical difficulties with the website; the comic pages themselves load up fine, but the thumbnails for each page and the albums in which they're contained don't seem to be displaying. Is anyone else having this issue or is it just my browser?

Wow what a great chapter. Kinda figured Kastrofa would be too hard to hold onto for long. Kualan it is just good to see you back period, but this new chapter and action was great. Wish we had you writing for the real TCW.

Thanks for the encouraging words, folks.
The next issue onwards will start the build-up to what I hope is going to be a big finale; one of the reasons this last issue took so long was I have to keep revising my plan for the story arc in order to make sure I was satisfied with how the volume as a whole will conclude.
Daggerthorn, Nep Dllr and Rothos Set will reprise their cameos in future issues before the volume is finished, but unfortunately I don't have any places in the script to offer cameos to any other people's custom characters EXCEPT for Jedi. I need a few more Jedi ;) so if anybody would like to see their custom CW-era Jedi figures make an appearance in future issues then please don't hesitate to let me know! :)
If anyone wishes to have their other, non-Jedi, characters make an appearance, feel free to let me know anyway and I'll try to see if I can make a place for them in Volume Three - of course scripting for that is quite far away in the future XD.
EDIT: I've already got a few ideas in mind for some of the figures that people posted earlier in this thread for Volume Three. ;)

I'm thinking of changing the name of the finale issues from "Apocalypse" to something else, out of respect for hangarbay's "Apocalypse" series.
I'm leaning towards "Armageddon".

I really admire your skills. This is a totally professional piece of work, from the writing to the presentation. Every part of your art is polished and I cannot help being really impressed. You have so many strengths, I really enjoy reading your work, and get quite absorbed from the moment I begin reading to the last word. I love your fight scenes, the reader gets a great feeling of what's going on even if there are no words in the set of images...very clever!
In this episode I love your inclusion of the Personal yacht.
Top notch work and jewel in the Imperial Shipyards crown.

This exact same thing occurred to me! And for awhile I was considering have him "pull an Alpha" and survive, but it would have come across as a bit forced. In the end someone had to die to up the stakes and drive Zell nearer the edge, and poor Recoil stood in the crosshairs!

Haha, would you be surprised if I said I was inspired by Echo's demise in the Citadel trilogy? I think that proved that character deaths are far more effective when they're sudden and unexpected, and more realistic when it happens without a lot of build-up and fanfare. A clone's life is a perilous one after all. I'm afraid Recoil is most definitely dead though. I'll miss writing for him.
On the other hand, I hope his death has had the effect I hoped it would and got you all hating Kastrofa even more. Nothing makes a good villain like being universally despised by the audience ;)

Kualan....what a fantastic chapter, from the well thought out camera angles to the tight script, everything was polished as hell. The way you have presented this makes it so easy to follow and so much fun to read. It was sad to see Recoil killed, but the scene was wonderfully written and perfectly placed, and what an amazing cliff hanger!
I thoroughly enjoyed this and think you have a career doing something creative ahead of you as you have some amazing talents.

Thanks LS! Hopefully the finale issues will live up to the cliffhanger in the last one. Pretty much everything but the kitchen sink is going into it - massive space battles, lightsaber duels, bounty hunters, smugglers, some political intrigue...the list goes on! I just hope I do it justice, heh.

Cheers hangarbay! I'm glad people are finding it easy to follow, when I started Volume Two I was worried I was including too much in the plot for people to keep up with, but the story seems to have been well-received here and elsewhere so that's a relief!
In other news, I've upgraded the domain name of the main site to www.talesfromtheclonewars.com . The old name - www.starwarscomic.webs.com - will still work so this shouldn't affect links or anything from the past.
I may post some new teasers over the next few days for the finale issues, which will officially be called "ARMAGEDDON" now. :)

WOW! That was really great writing Kulan! I love the direction you are taking with this chapter just as much as the previous one. You are really creating some compelling characters and that is what really draws me in. Zell is an awesome one and I love that moment where she strikes at Kastrofa as he says "You are in over your head girl!" So many great moments in this one and you are the king of the cliff hanger! Very well done, two thumbs and 2 big toes up!

Kualan, that was a masterpiece!
The action was intense and mirrored the best aspect of the Star Wars genre, epic, operatic space battles. There has been a wonderfully paced lead up to this point and the excitement grows with every new episode. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
I love the way you show movement in your action scenes and your story telling is second to none.

Glad you all liked it! Definitely one of my favourite issues to write/make, and I'm glad everything seems to be coming together plotwise. There was a moment or two where I thoughtI might have made it too complicated to resolve it all! The next issue shouldn't be far behind, and with it even more cameos! Just an update;
The script for the next issue is coming along fairly nicely. Should be finished and happy with it soon.
I'm already starting to set down some preliminary plans for Volume Three, and one of them involves the introduction of new clone characters. I planned to make unique armour paint-schemes for two of these new clones, when I thought "Hey, I know a whole bunch of guys who are THE experts on this sort of thing!", so I have a proposal for you fellow Shipyarders!
If anyone has a paint-scheme they'd like to see on a clone-trooper (perhaps something they've done as a custom before) in the comic, then by all means just post a picture below. The only limitation is that the paint-scheme will be used on a standard Episode III-era clone trooper, not a customised commander's armour.

I've been having some thoughts about the future of the comic.
After Volume Two has concluded, I'm divided about whether to move onto a Volume Three set in the Clone Wars era and following on from several of the plots seeded in earlier issues, or to venture into an era of Star Wars that is less catalogued and doesn't rely too heavily on canonical characters and events.
I was thinking of something set during The Old Republic era (maybe in or around the 'Knights of the Old Republic' or 'The Old Republic' video game eras, as they have big events applied to them but aren't as mapped out so fully as the Clone Wars so there's plenty of scope for originality).
What do people think? Stick with the Clone Wars or venture into pastures new? I am genuinely 50-50 on the decision so going to throw it open to popular opinion!

I'm relatively new to the forums and just discovered your work (I sat glued to the computer for two hours!!!). Your story is masterful and your effects amazing! This is truly one of the best works of SW Graphic Fiction (professional or amateur). You could easily write for Dark Horse or TCW!!! Your characters inspire such a great reaction (LOVED Recoil and will miss him!) and have a classic SW feel. Can't wait for the epic conclusion!!!

Well, we do love your work as I hope you know. The photo novel folks just don't get enough support and exposure on the web as far as I am concerned.
I have worked with graphics a bit and it takes me a long time to get something the way I want it. You folks deal with hundreds and hundreds of those images, doing so much more detail than I am capable and show it all to us for our enjoyment. It really is a true labour of love and I appreciate the work you have put into your graphic fiction.

I know one or two people have messaged me about this already, but as Volume Two wraps up and I start planning out the story of Volume Three I may be able to offer more cameo appearances by Shipyarders' creations. Past cameos include members of Ki-Adi-Mundi's strike team (the Chiss Rothos Set, the Duros Nep Dllr and the human Padawan Zin) in the last issue.
So if you have a Jedi, a clone, or any other character I might be able to create for the comic in Volume Three, feel free to post about them here!

Already busy plotting away Volume Three. If the unofficial theme for Volume One was, "Anakin's loyalties are tested", and Volume Two's was, "Dark secrets being revealed", then Volume Three is going to be, "Clones, clones, clones.". Already customising the 3D models for several members of the 501st, including:
Rex
Jesse
Kix
Tup
Maybe Dogma and Hardcase, depending on whether I decide to set the story before or after the Umbara arc in TCW.
As well as other clones like Crys, Waxer and Boil who serve under Obi-Wan and Commander Cody.
I already have model skins for Appo, Sergeant Fox and 501st soldiers in various roles (normal trooper, demolitions expert, etc)
Will try to get some preview pictures up before I leave for the holidays tomorrow.

Hoping to get the next issue (and last one of Volume Two!) up sometime in the first week of January, and then it is on to Volume Three!
So much good stuff planned for the next volume.
The 501st! Including characters from the TV series like Rex, Jesse, Tup and Kix.
Quinlan Vos! One of the Dark Horse comics' best characters is going to play an important role in the next volume.
Mandalorians! The motley band of thugs who called themselves Mandalorians in Volume Two will return, and they're going to learn what it means to be REAL Mandalorians.
And that will just be the first issue! Lots more surprises over the horizon, including finally being able to get a character into the comic that I've been struggling to find a way to do so since FOREVER (some of you may remember who that is. Clue; he's very hard to kill).

By the way, does anyone know of any other good sites I could post about this comic and its updates on? Trying to find more ways to broaden its potential "audience". Though the Shipyards will always be my favourite ;D

I kept going back and forth on the decision whether to kill Zell off right up to the last minute, but decided to show just how brutal war can be.

Little update on this:
I've had to delay work on Volume Three as I've scrapped my original plot idea which involved the Mandalorians very heavily. The recent arc of episodes in the Clone Wars TV series that aired had a plot that - though far from identical - was very similar to the ideas I was toying with (Mandalorians trying to become independent against both sides, working with the Hutts to do so, etc). The Clone Wars is a great source of inspiration, but I don't want to become too similar to it or else there isn't much point in making a separate comic in the first place, haha. So I'll be taking the storyline back to the drawing board, no idea when it'll be done.
However! Bright side! This means if anyone has any elements they would like to see - your favourite characters, planets, vehicles, cultures, etc - or if you have customs and creations by Yarders that might have a place being turned into comic book characters then just give the word! I can incorporate such requests into the plot as I start again from scratch.

I plan to open the Volume with a big battle, so this could easily be featured. Not sure about AT-AT drivers, but AT-TEs will likely feature heavily, as will artillery and other heavy ordnance. I haven't shown a full-blown all-out land battle before, so it's something I definitely want to include.

This is an absolutely outstanding series. A truly impressive achievement on all fronts!
Just extraordinary work. I quite literally have no idea how you (or Julian or depressis) make these terrific computer generated images.
But this looks just marvelous. An excellent marriage between the movies and the Clone Wars series.
But it's not just the stunning visuals. This is a wonderfully-written story.
The dialogue and characterizations are just spot on. I could hear the voices of the actors in my head. You just nailed it. My favorite scene - although brief - is Dooku's. I could just hear Christopher Lee's measured, sinister tone. Loved it.
You also did a great job with showing the conflicted Anakin. A bit petulant about the council when dealing with them directly, but quick to praise and defend them to an outsider. That's the kind of nuance that the character doesn't always exhibit in other media.
Serra is a great original creation. Battle-weary, with some great cynical humor. And I'm definitely intrigued by Archon and where that story is headed. Your series does a good job in echoing the movies making the Jedi, sadly, kind of jerks. But at least it's consistent with the films! And I really can't wait to learn more about the Covenant.
The battle sequences are terrific, it's all very kinetic and exciting.
Oh, also, I LOVE the comic book style. Just a great visual look all around.

Serra is a great original creation. Battle-weary, with some great cynical humor. And I'm definitely intrigued by Archon and where that story is headed. Your series does a good job in echoing the movies making the Jedi, sadly, kind of jerks. But at least it's consistent with the films! And I really can't wait to learn more about the Covenant.
The battle sequences are terrific, it's all very kinetic and exciting.
Oh, also, I LOVE the comic book style. Just a great visual look all around.

Wow, great feedback. Thanks a lot Lance! I'm really REALLY glad to hear you pick up on the little characterisations such as Dooku and Anakin's. Great to know that it is coming across as intended. Hopefully you'll find more examples of that if/when you read the rest of Volume One and move into Volume Two.
Bit of trivia - Serra herself wasn't an original creation; she's canonical, but her only appearance is as an opponent in the Revenge of the Sith video game. A lot of her personality was an embellishment though, so it's good to hear you enjoyed her as a character.

Tried out a few new tricks - namely facial expressions. Early days yet, but the results on Dooku, Vos and Sev'rance Tann mean I might try this more in the coming issues, to add a new level of depth to the comic.

I really like how you are taking the Separatist point of view too. Always being a fan of the good guys, it is nice to see the story told from another viewpoint. Trust me, this update will be on the front page tomorrow.

Made some adjustments to the clone models today - Kix's medical logo looks better now, Jesse and Tup have more show-accurate colour markings on the arms and legs now, etc - so "production" on Issue Two looks ready to start soon.

Glad you guys like it! I've really hit a Clone Wars "vibe" at the moment so am pushing through these new issues to make up for the lost months when there was no update to Volume Two.
Am already ready to begin work on Volume Three, I just need to decide on a character's appearance in it. Am going to go scouting the Custom Figures section, but if anyone has any customs they've seen who could feature as a dangerous bounty hunter (with their creator's permission, that is) just link me here and I'll have a look to see if I can make a feasible 3D rendering of them.

The first part of the new chapter was absolutely epic. LOVED the land battle. Amazing work. Such incredibly rich visuals! Just jaw-dropping.
My favorite bit - "the Jedi can handle that." CUT TO: Awesome "hero shot" of Anakin and Obi Wan kicking ass.
Awesome, awesome stuff. I loved seeing Vos, by the way. I am only vaguely familiar with the Vos "traitor" arc from the EU, but this is a very cool and engaging story. Once again, the dialogue is as sharp as the stunning images. Great characterizations, great storytelling.
I have a few minor nitpicks with the second chapter.
I know you can't show an image for every single second of action and that comics is all about what happens "in between" the frames, but I felt a few important things were skipped over and made it just a little confusing.
I think you needed to show the door closing on the shuttle and Kenobi and Vos getting inside. Or just have had Kenobi manage to get "inside" the shuttle right away. Fighting on the open hatch/ramp was cool, but you kind of gloss over how they get inside.
Even more problematic, though, was Anakin in the second half. Suddenly, without explanation, he goes from being on the surface to inside his fighter in orbit in the thick of battle. I think you needed at least one quick line of dialogue to get us there. Maybe just have him say into his comlink, "R2, I'm gonna need you!" or something similar.
Also, the shots of him in the cockpit don't QUITE look like him sitting in a cockpit. At first, I thought he was standing up next to a window in one of the larger capital ships. I have literally NO idea how you generate and construct these images, so I don't know how "easy" it is to create your pictures. What are you using as the source for your elements and pictures? I have no clue. But those shots were just a little problematic for me.
I'm also not sure why Kenobi would have been brought aboard the escape pod. Maybe Vos didn't want him killed - that seems to make sense. But, again, maybe you needed to just hint at that. I understand why you'd want to keep Vos' motives murky. But maybe one panel of him dragging Obi Wan and Tambor is complaining and Vos tells him to mind his own business. :)
I know you can't ruin everything and need to keep mystery, but it felt slightly odd to just have Obi Wan suddenly there on the Sep ship.
Anyway, these are MINOR, MINOR nitpicks. Overall, this is another extraordinary achievement. I love the hell out of this amazing series and I am always delighted to read your latest efforts.
Keep up the awesome work. Once again, you've really nailed it on every front - images, dialogue, story/plot, etc. This is engaging and entertaining as heck.

Regarding two of your points, they seem to be casualties of the editing process. When Kenobi and Vos are seen immediately after Obi-Wan kicks Vos into the ship, they're actually standing right by the open ramp, but the way I've cropped the shot has made this hard to see. Thanks for pointing this out, as it'll make it easier for me to keep an eye out for that sort of thing in future issues. A shot of the ramp closing could have been useful too, I agree, good point.
For Anakin's transition from the base to his fighter, there was a line in which he asks the Admiral to send down R2 and his fighter, but I cut it when I realised that there wouldn't be time for R2 to get down to the planet and come back in time for them to pursue the shuttle. I thought by leaving it unsaid that it would imply Anakin always had his fighter on the surface, but will have to think of a suitable line to edit back into the issue to make this clearer.
The cockpit thing - ack! I totally understand this one. Cockpits are the bane of my life xD I've yet to find a good reference picture for cockpits, so end up having to construct them from little pieces here and there. Looking back with your observations in mind, it's really obvious that they need a lot of work still. Will make this a priority to find something that looks right in future issues, thanks again.
The 'why Obi-Wan was allowed to live' question is answered in the next issue, but rest assured there is a very deliberate reason rather than Quinlan Vos attending the Bond Villain School of Villainy :D

The Mandalorians didn't get a chance to make much of an impact in Volume Two. Starting with the last issue, that's going to change. You'll be seeing more Mandalorian-vs-Jedi encounters as Volume Three unfolds!

This is mainly a storytelling chapter, very little in the way of action but lots of plot and character development and moving the different players into position. But trust me, in issues further down the line the scale of action is going to reach greater heights than before.

Ok, it's been a while and I have just sit to read the last 4 chapters. From Ground fight to space battle, from Mandos Murdering to Character development, Its wonderful. a more adult themed look at the Clone wars is what it feels like and although the action is fast and furious, the plot is spread out and jumps around a bit, like a good movie or novel. Never again will I sway away from drinking in the latest update if I can help it. If tamer doesn't beat me to it, plan on this chapter being featured on the front page.

Aye, the last issue was really the point where all the different plots were stretched out as far as they could feasibly go without becoming completely unrelated to each other, in order to establish all the different players and such. Starting with Issue 5, these plot threads are going to start converging once more.
As for Amelia, we've only just scratched the surface! Lots planned for her character.

Great story Kualan. I like these Clone Wars tales because of the gritty feel they have to them. They aren't as polished as the cartoon, you really don't hold back. As a Marvel fan I loved seeing the WHEEL that's a great little Easter egg! Keep em' coming!

Thanks DarthSinister! This volume certainly has the potential to be the "darkest" I've done so far, but hopefully I'll be able to keep it balanced as the original films do when dealing with such issues. The Mandalorian plotline in particular is going to have some gritty moments - I felt I didn't do them justice in their small role in Volume Two.
And glad you noticed/liked the Wheel cameo! There will be a few more easter eggs like that in future issues, heh :D

Heh, that's the plan with Vos - always keep them guessing. Is he a double agent? A triple agent? A quadruple agent? And so on xD

Kualan, your technical skill at creative writing is really impressing me, these stories are getting more complex and thrilling at the same time and this piece of creative work is a real epic.
Both this and Vader's Quest rank as my favorite works on this forum, simply due to the brilliance of every aspect of their creation. Art direction in this episode is at it's usual high quality, I especially liked the asteroid scene, reminded me of Empire Strikes Back simply due to it's atmosphere.
I regret not being about so much lately, but it's work like this that keeps me hooked.

Well I finally had some time to read this the right way and of course was more than pleased. What can I say who doesn't want to see Mandalorians in full battle? One can only wonder what the next episode will be. I sure hope Vos isn't the triple agent he appears to be but guess that is his character. With as many trips between the dark and the light side that dude has taken its a wonder he has made it as long as he has. Nice work Kualan.

I really tried to find something I think needs improving, but came up empty. I thoroughlly enjoyed this last chapter. Glad to see the ole Mandalore got what was coming to him. I loved some of the Beskar Gam variations too. Some of those would make some awesome custom figures.

Kualan you are the MAN! your creative writing is going from strength to strength, the dialogue couldn't be more authentic if it had come from Lucas himself. I read both this and the previous chapters in one go and I really felt inspired.

And wow, those are some kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying the dialogue so much, it means I'm doing my job right haha. Pretty interesting how certain word and phrase choices can make all the difference when reading something in a character's particular "voice".

Issue Ten is taking a little while longer as I keep tweaking the script for it, and I've caught up in the vibe of making original content for the comic; the Republic Citadel isn't the only newly-created locale you'll see as the volume progresses. I think I've been hit by the same bug that drives awesome customisers like wraithnine - made over a dozen new 3D models for made-up clone commanders and the soldiers under their command in the past couple of days, as well as new Jedi, Republic officers and even a brand new model for a certain bald-headed Dark Jedi-turned-bounty hunter who might be making an appearance soon...

Kualan just another great chapter in one of the most dynamic stories I have seen. Back on the front page.
I must say that it is stories like this that give me hope for the future of our SW Verse. There are way too many folks out there who think that they only story lines we should accept are those that are officially approved by George to get the term 'canon' applied to them. I even got into it a bit this week with one of TCW Writers who was understandably upset that TCW is over, but pretty much dissed anything else that wasn't approved by George after a comment I made that part of the fun of SW for me is us getting to put our own take on the story line or finishing up the loose ends we constantly find on all the varied SW timelines. This is just an exemplar of why I have my opinion and am daggone well sticking to it.
One of my future goals is to create a Web-Novel Section and create a permanent home for these awesome works of art where folks of future times can just marvel at the work that true fan pioneers like yourself are doing for our hobby. It is guys like you and Jules that make me proud to be a member of this hobby. Ok, enough mushy stuff. Back to more awesome action. Looking foward to seeing what my Mando Gal does to ole Tarkin.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time just devouring your awesome content. Such great storytelling with some brilliant twists thrown in. Another update; trying to get a job and home in London continues to prove to be a challenge in itself, so I keep getting distracted from the fun stuff I like to do in my spare time like this comic. The good news is I have a word document open right next to this browser window and am hashing out the next two-part arc as we speak.
A summary of what's to come in Tales from the Clone Wars;
SHIPYARDS OF KUAT
The upcoming two-part arc sees the survivors of the Concord Dawn Massacre seeking vengeance on those that betrayed them. Led by Amelia Junari, the band of Mandalorians target the heart of the Republic Navy - the shipyards of Kuat. But armed with nothing more than a paltry squadron of outdated warships courtesy of Jabba the Hutt, Amelia must rely on more than an upfront assault if she is to outwit Jedi General Eeth Koth and his men.
Meanwhile, an unexpected ally warns Obi-Wan Kenobi of the new alliance between Jabba and the Mandalorians. As Anakin and the 501st race to assist General Koth, it falls to Obi-Wan to investigate this latest act of treachery from the ever-insidious Hutts. But how will the Cartel react when a Jedi Master demands they start honouring their treaty with the Republic...and more importantly, risk their profits?
The Clone Wars are about to enter a new phase, one where the battle lines are blurred, and it becomes harder to tell friend from foe...

The next issues have gone through another serious rewrite to keep the plotline focused on the Mandalorians and Quinlan Vos. I no longer have the time to sit down and knock out an entire issue in one frenzy-filled day of Photoshopping, so I'm having to do a few pages a day here and there until the next issue is done BUT, I figured I could bring back the old tradition of letting you guys have a sneak peak at the first few pages.

I am a huge fan of your series, you are a great story teller staying true to classic Star Wars style. I love that you are also mixing the subtle political element along with the action sequences. The expression on Palpatine's face when listening to Tarkin's speech says it all without saying a word.
I'm finally managing to stay one step ahead of Tamer on this, so it's up on the front page where it belongs. I hope that the extra publicity will bring more members to this highly underrated section of the Imperial Shipyards.

I finally found some time today to enjoy this. Well, it was sure interesting to see the evolution of Tarkin. You are just doing a great job filling in the gaps I have about him.
I really enjoyed seeing the Young Ones play. Great scene and I am sure interested to see where Vos ends up in all this too. Of course I can't get enough Mandalorian action. I can't wait to see how the Clones and remaining Jedi respond to an impending full frontal assault by some Mandalorians in rocket packs. Just another solid episode Kualan. Thank you.

This really is a superb piece of fiction and a very addictive read. The part with Ventress where her communicator gets busted was so well done. You also nailed the political drama, which must have been tough to get right.
Like all of your chapters this really is the highlight of our forum's activities, the viewing numbers speak for themselves and I thank you for keeping with it as its so damn good!

Another excellent edition! Great story and action, truly a fun read from start to finish! I only have two minor pieces of feedback; 1.) The scene inside the Senate with Bail, Mon, and Padme felt unnecessary. Additionally, I actually found myself liking them less after this scene (due to their complaining). 2.) The dialog from Ventress seemed unnatural, especially the bite me line.
Beyond that, I truly could not offer any advice for improvement! I only point out my feelings to provide more detailed feedback with constructive commentary. Thanks for sharing what has become one of my favorite photonovels!

Thanks for the feedback CloneCrazy! The scene with the senators was included mainly to showcase why the clones of the Coruscant Guard don't merely swamp the attacking Mandalorians with sheer numbers - because of the committee meeting in the previous issue, many important senators (and the Chancellor himself) are in the Senate building at the time, so a large portion of the available troopers would need to be diverted to guarding them / keeping them contained. There are also huge crowds of protesters currently outside the Senate (as shown in the previous two issues) so the senators were also a way for me to feature the HoloNews reporter Kuun Fan (and those lines of troopers behind him!) to remind the audience that the Coruscant Guard are already stretched thin in crowd management. This will tie directly into events of the next issue and beyond though, I promise!
As for Ventress' dialogue...I agree with you there. Looking back, that last line doesn't ring as authentically as it might. I may go back and change it after thinking up a suitable alternative. But thank you for bringing it up, as I might never have gone back and spotted that without your feedback!

I was working on the scripts for the next couple of issues, and this 'Justice' arc that began with Issue 12 will now be the finale of Volume Three. There will be at least two more issues in the arc, with the possibility of a third, and then Volume Three will be done!
There's some (what I hope to be) really interesting stuff to come in the rest of the Justice arc; we'll be exploring the 'dark side' of the Republic, which goes far beyond the likes of Tarkin.

I finally found some time to enjoy this this afternoon. What a great story. How did I know ole Tarkin was somehow going to survive. Glad he at least got maimed a bit.
I am telling you I am so hooked on this. I really want to see how Ventress gets away from Jabba. Gonna be another great episode after this. What is Voss up to? Major setback.
Had to do a system restore on my computer today, and believed all my files (including the work files for Tales From The Clone Wars and Tales From The New Republic, but also important documents for RL concerns) to be backed up, only to discover said backup was 'corrupted' and now I have lost almost everything on my hard drive.
This means having to redo every page that had been completed on Justice, Part Two so far. A little disheartening to say the least, so it might be some time before I can muster up the willpower to redo everything again.
For now I am focusing on re-downloading all the past TFTCW issues from the external website I set up, which is a lengthy process in itself.

Thanks ghostskull18. That character's name is Major Thorne, and he works for the shadier side of Republic Military Intelligence. He's cruel and utterly without scruples - the perfect man to head an interrogation unit, some might say. He very much falls into the 'Tarkin camp' of the Republic military.
His role in Volume Three is largely contained to this issue, but he and the rest of Military Intelligence will likely player a larger role in Volume Four - similar to how Tarkin and the Mandalorians of Clan Varad made smaller appearances in Volume Two before taking centre stage during Volume Three.

Simply spectacular Kuulan, a truly enjoying read!!! Your series continues to explore the dark underbelly of the Republic, something I think the CW television show should have done more. Major Thorne is a wonderful character, I think it is a great idea to show more of the Tarkin camp of the Republic military, after all in the end they take over from honorable men like Yuralaren and Dondana. As always, your writing for Dooku and Palpatine is spot on. You make the characters come to life with your authentic writing style, not an easy task. Your visuals are on par with HangarBay94 (the highest compliment I can bestow) you both couple eye candy with snappy writing to create memorable series. I anxiously await the next chapter and must sincerely thank you for the time and effort spent on this wonderful series.

I really enjoyed all the going back and forth between the different storylines in this one. Of course I enjoyed the OT nods on the Tatooine scenes and it is great to see TCW characters like Cad Bane continuing their mischief even if the tv show is over. Bravo all the way around. I look forward to seeing what Vos gets into with our Mando Gal prisoner too. I don't see Major Thorne letting that go easily. Once again great story and great images. I gave this a shout out last night on the latest episode of Custom Action Figure News.

The shout-out is much appreciated Tamer! I heard you saying you were looking forward to Tales From The New Republic. I may have to disappoint you on that front, though. It struck me that with Episode VII coming out in two years time, everything we believe to have happened after Return of the Jedi may be about to have a huge shake-up, and it might be a little pointless for me to release a webcomic series that could be rendered completely at odds with the new canon.
As such, I'm going to hold off on investing more time in rebuilding the work done on TFTNR for now, until next year at the very earliest - when we start getting a clearer picture of what the status quo is going to be in the new trilogy. For all we know, there might not even -be- a New Republic!
Tales From The Clone Wars Volume Four will still be happening though.

After finally finding the time to sit down and read your latest chapter I have to say that once again you have done a superb job.
It's hard not to repeat myself singing your praise but this is a consistently high quality read, you had me hooked from the start and you have sustained that interest. This latest chapter was superbly written, your switching between locations was wonderfully executed and the camera angles as the scenes switched created a very cinematic experience. The whole package of writing and imagery work perfectly and you have become a real craftsman at weaving a story.
I am intrigued as to which side Vos is really on and the Ventress story line is also really interesting. I also really enjoy reading Obi-Wan's and Dookoo's dialogue, you have them both down to a tee, interesting as both are very British actors and I can hear their voices in my head as I read.
As a Star Wars fan you are adding to the experience with every new release and I thank you for all of your hard work.

I thought you might enjoy the walkers, Tamer. They weren't originally going to be in Volume Four, but I decided that with the delay of Tales From The New Republic it might be fun to put some of the 3D assets for that series to use in the Clone Wars.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. Was a bit apprehensive about setting another finale on Coruscant as I did with Volume Two, but it seems to have worked out okay.

For me I think you handled a very complex character in the form of Quinlan Vos wonderfully. He is always going back and forth from the light to the dark and sometimes with shades in between sometimes for ultimately the greater good as you can see here. I really liked your inclusion of the Mandalorians in this series as well as seeing great OT characters like Jabba and crew. You really know how to play to both the prequel and OT fans.
