Title: USA
Post by: 501stAppo on May 28, 2010, 05:56:41 PM
I wonder if the people who live in the US could post some pics and some info about their neighbourhood and surroundings, because I've become obsessed with the US lately and I've been planning to go and try to migrate to the US when I'm done with school and have some cash to build up a life there. I'd participate in the Diversity Lottery to hopefully win a Green Card and hope for the best to go to the US!

I haven't really decided yet, but Wisconsin seems like a nice state to live.
Then again, I'm propably going to make a trip to New York next year or something to see what it's all about over there.

To be honest, the U.S. is great in my opinion(Just reference my name, lol).  I'm not saying we don't have our problems, but we work things out, and it's, well, great.

Cool pics of Philly. Most people forget it was the Nation's capital for a bit.

I would post some of my pics of the US of A, but there is really just lots of trees. Ofcourse here in a new weeks they will be turning colors so perhaps I could share that.

We'd learned about Philly in the 5th Grade, so I hardly forget its facts, lol.

I'd love to see your pictures, Shawn.  I remember the mountainous terrain of West Virginia from my trips with my dad through there.

Hey guys,

I haven't been on here in awhile, because of school and what not, so I figured I'd stop by to say hi and what not.

I spent the day at Harrisburg today, PA's capital, just to get out of the house for a bit.  Here are a few pic's of my excursion.

Very nice pictures of D.C.
I'm going to Denver in September. What do I need to know for this trip? :D Any advice on where to go and what to do in and around the mile-high-city is highly appreciated!

I drove to Colorado Springs a couple years ago, which is an hour south. (In America, we measure distance in time. Like lightyears, but account for traffic.)   If you you like nature and crap, make your way down to the springs. They have Garden Of The Gods. It's fun to photobomb wedding photos. Then of course there's Pikes Peak, take the tram, don't try to drive, it'll wreck your brakes. Cave dwellings are cool, if you're in the neighborhood.

JDeck is right. Colorado Springs would be an excellent stop. The Garden of the Gods is worth seeing, in my opinion.

I was in Denver about 20 years ago during the winter. It was beautiful. I recommend taking a special someone on a horse drawn carriage ride in Denver. There isn't a bad view in the whole city if you ask me.

First off, I'd like to apologize for my late reply, gentlemen. I'm very thankful for all your responses! The last couple weeks were rather stressful, but I'm back home now.

The Garden of the Gods looks fascinating on the pictures already. This is a sight I would've probably missed with your advice, so thank you very much for your replies guys!

It's been almost a decade since I visited the States. Always wanted to go to Utah since I was a child and fan of dinosaurs.
I'm looking forward to seeing the state of Colorado for the first time in my life and will report my journey here as well. Let's take a look at some local finds, then!

I checked our route for next week:

We fly in to Denver on Monday.
The Georgetown loop is our first stop. I had to chuckle when my brother made me aware of the highway next to it, when we looked at the screen together.

The loop looks very nice. From Georgetown we go to Durango where we take the train to Silverton and back. Chama in Colorado is our next stop from where we go to Antonito.
Didn't know there's  Chama in New Mexico, too!
Last trip by train will be the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.
A day later we head back to Denver and back to Germany.

The trip will take us 855 miles on the road alone. It's gonna be fun!

What's even nicer than the historic trains is the landscape along their route. It looks amazing on google pictures already! I can already smell the scent of the wooden wagons.

At the beginning or the end of our trip, we'll visit the Railroad Museum in the West of Denver.
They even have a G scale garden train next to historic steam engines!

There are 9 Walmart Superstores and 8 TARGETs in Denver alone!
I hope I can go to at least one of them for a store report.

You are definitely seeing some great places.

I'm flying out on Monday. If you want anything from Germany, let me know and I'll take it to CO to send it with USPS from there.
I offer that to all forum members :)

Thanks Tamer! Yes, it was a long journey, but very convenient! I sat next to a very nice lady from Colorado and she told me quite a lot about Denver and other nice places.
I just wish we had more time. We’re a group of six and unfortunately have a strict schedule. We have to figure that out with our leader because in best case we can spend a whole day in Denver on Saturday before we fly out again.

We went to the Union Station of Denver last night for dinner. It was gooood!

We were awake for 27 hours. Our flight from Frankfurt/Main to Denver was 10 hours with Lufthansa and excellent service.
This is the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

We had free parking downtown for Labor Day! That was a welcome surprise!

I travel lighter than ever before. A week is much too short for my taste, but I won’t complain. I didn’t plan and book the journey myself and so far it’s a blast!
Due to our strict schedule, there’s hardly an occasion to go shopping.
I don’t have much space anyways and enjoy the countryside instead.

The Ford Expedition is a flagship of a vehicle.
Made me chuckle when I put my little suitcase next to the wheels…

This picture was taken in Chama, NM. It was our last stop of the travel.

For the first night we stayed at a Radisson Hotel in Denver.

We did! And our first stop was Georgetown to ride the loop there with a historic train.

More detailed pictures will follow as I'm reviewing them right now.
