Title: Life at Sprywalker Ranch
Post by: Luke Sprywalker on May 10, 2010, 07:37:33 PM
Hello, I thought I would make a single post to say hello to new guys, if you look at this, and just say to everyone that I simply don't have as much time to post replies these days. I don't have as much time to do customs either and that is what I love the most. Spring, Summer and Fall is when I make good money and I am playing catch up from a long wet winter. I'll still be here for sure, but lurking and commenting when I can. I will also be working on customs but at a much slower rate. I have a lot of work to do in my yard, just got our pool open and still working on that., bla, bla bla. You know how it is if you are a home owner with any size property that you maintain so I won't bore you with the details. Through the winter and early spring I had more time and if I reply I want to contribute something that the person can think about and hopefully help all of us get better through talking about our ideas. I just don't want anyone to think I am being a jerk when I don't get to reply as much as I would like. OK guys? See ya soon

On the couch all day. Been sick since yesterday with my head all clogged up and feeling as big as my house. Damn sinus trouble! The day I hoped to work on some customs...oh well.

Have not updated this in a while...to many customs keeping my buisy. Well Tonight is the night. Earl is headed my way as a catagory 3 and winds have dropped tp 115. It will skirt the coast of the Outer Banks at around 3 AM but I hope it stays out to sea. I live 45 minutes from the Outer Banks of North Carolina. So today I have mowed the lawn, just over 4 acres, and battoned down the hatches. That is Sea leg talk for securing all the projectiles in my yard. Tourist have been evacuated from the OBX and most residents insist on riding out the storm. They know everything will flood and they won't be able to get back in. So when you see everyone on the news talking about Earl hitting the OBX that is my back yard and I am supposed to be on vacation there in an Ocean front house starting Saturday. So lets all hope she will still be standing after this storm. I will be up all night! :-\

When I  was stationed in Norfolk, we used to drive down to the outer banks all the time. I found it interesting that every year, a hurricane would blow down those stilt houses on the beach and every year, they would rebuild them.

Good luck, LE

Stay safe L.E. I had one of my nicer girlfriends before I got married live down that way. It is a great place. I hope everything stays great!

Bragg wasn't overly far away from there. Pack up those great customs and put em all in waterproof containers, like I need to tell you that. The hell with the SW stuff, it can be replaced, the family is the only thing to really worry about. Please keep us updated.  Those storms are the real deal.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I know what you mean Clint, but for the past 10ish years if your million dallar ocean front home blows down or is claimed by the ocean you can not rebuild. I hear they can't get insurance on those houses for years either. Small world I am in Norfolk all the time. Tamer we were thinking about staying with our Niece in Raleigh if it was looking too bad. Brag is not far away, my wifes dad used to work there, Army core of engineers. He was in charge of all the buildings and roads. Did you live in Fayettville or Fayetnam as they call it?

LOL. Haven't heard that in awhile. I stayed on base. I was just a young pup in the RDG. We weren't allowed to stay more than a few hours away from base anyhow and I saved all my coin for cars and gals, that little gal in the Outer Banks got a lot of it, as did my 83 Berlinetta. Ah, the good ole days.  The gal turned out to be trouble as did the car, but life in the fast lane sure did seem fun at the time and I have mostly good memories of it.

Back to the real subject, that would stink if the house were hit. I didn't know they woudln't let your rebuild if a hurricane gets it. I know ocean front has some crazy rules sometimes though. Once again, stay safe. I will check this thread in the morning to see if you came through everything ok. I am assuming by tomorrow morning sometime the storm will be past if 3am tonight it is supposed to hit. I bet their isn't a sheet of plywood to be found in your entire area.

Thanks for the concern guys. The storm stayed over the ocean and ran up the coast. Luckily it kept wobbling to the east so all we got was some wind and rain, no flooding, YAY! Some flooding at the OBX but mainly in Hattaras that is a little further away from Nags Head where we are staying starting tomorrow. All I have are a few sticks and limbs to pick up and we are all set.

It is good to hear it wasn't that bad. I guess it is bearing down on Ocean City now. I used to live down there. Hope it stays east. Have fun this weekend.

What a whirlwind life is. Yesterday my 17 yr old son came home and told me a friend of his had died that afternoon in a car accident. He was hit on the drivers side by a tractor trailer. There were 2 others in the car and they are still in the hospital. Today a good friend of mine lost his daughter to SMA. She struggled for years and they have almost lost her several times. So I am glad she is no longer in pain but it still does not make it easy for her family. We got some good news yesterday that an acquaintance, and she worked with my mom, had her baby after trying for years and finally getting invetro fertilization. She had a boy and held him for just about 24 hrs befor she got a blood clot that caused her death. I have never experienced such an unbelievable amount of bad news in the last 24 hrs. This really is a reality check for me and making me want to really get in some quality family time. Never take anything for granted, live life to the fullest and let the ones you love know how you feel.

And I can only second your words to live life to the fullest and care about your families and friends and tell them how much you love 'em.

L.E. talk about having one of those weeks. I am sad for you! I do totally agree on the family time focus though. We should all take a wake up call from such a week as you  have had to focus on what matters most, our loved ones.

My wife has been dealing with an ailing grandfather and I can associate on how precarious life seems to be sometimes.

Guys, sorry but my time here will be even more limited for a while. My computer is down and I will be able to take it in for repairs tomorrow and not sure when I will be picking it up. I will be able to check in once a day and that is about it. Jules if you see this, I took the photos for you but was unable to send the Friday when this happened.

WOW! It has been a long time since I posted here. I use this to let everyone know what is going on in life as I am pretty active in all other threads. Just wanted to say things are getting super hectic with 5 days until I leave for Florida. Me, my wife Mari, and my youngest son Jaxon are driving with our lugage, Rancor Pit, Jabba's Palace and all the figures for it, Customizing Panel display, and a cooler. I have to get things organized for work, start packing figures, clothes, camera, and so on. After tomorrow I will be scarce around here but hope to check in once a day/when I can. I also need to start getting closer to a normal sleep schedule before driving 11 hrs and trying to accomplish the insane amount of things I will do in the next week. We start the excitement Tuesday morning at MGM or I should say Hollywood Studios now. Wednesday we go to Universal and I can unload all my stuff at C6 and we start setting up the diorama room. We also get to go to shopping for vendors that night from 7-10. Parties that night and every night up and down the block. Can't wait to leave, I think it will be the first time I can truly relax in over a month.

Just wanted to check in with everyone and let you guys know I have not fallen off the face of the earth. Sorry I have been MIA for a few weeks but life has been hectic. I didn't work for 3 months this winter so I am working every hour I can when it isn't raining. When it is raining I have been working on estimates and paper work. I still need to photograph the 6 inch scale Cantina Booth I made back in February! I have worked on a new project but, I can't really talk about it or show completed pics. I can say the model is being filmed for an upcoming "sizzle real" to be shopped around with producers. Keeping my fingers crossed that something will come of this and I will have more available time to create and scratch build things. I am trying to check in at least once a week to keep up in the custom figure and vehicle forums, keep up the great work everyone!
