Title: May 2010 - Imperial Shipyards Design a Poster Competition

I have the pleasure of announcing the competition for May. This month we will move away from customs and have an Artwork competition for a change!.

The Challenge this month is to design a Star Wars Poster...
Entries must be a work of digital art, a drawing, painting or photograph with a Star Wars Poster look. It can feature customs or stock images from the net, but you must make it your own.
 
The winning entry will have their work printed onto an A3 canvas packaged and sent to their home address. The winner will also win a custom Banner and Avtar and a work of digital art featuring one of their customs by Hangarbay94 (photography may be required). Please bear in mind that if your submission is anything other than a digital work of art or photograph the conversion to canvas may not work, as a scanned image of a drawing or painting will not transfer, in which case an alternative prize will be offered.

Competition Rules:

The image size on this forum is limited, so applicants are welcome to post a link to their images if preferred.
Closing date for this competition is June 10th so good luck everyone.
As the person responsible for monitoring this competition, if anyone has any queries please PM me and I will do my best to reply to you within 24 hours.

Yes, the image of the Rancor's head being splashed to the four winds by a hail of rapid blaster cannon bolts would be wicked...I can see blood splatters on camera lense effects already.... maybe a bit gory...but a cool thought nonetheless....

As someone who uses photoshop a lot, I can see some very slick effects there....The motion blur on the "rebel alliance" text is very slick, also the way you have outlined the Star Wars text is also very well done.

Koty, you could just do it the old school way and hand draw up a poster of your own. As long as you can get the pc-camera function to work, you could still submit. I may try to render up something by hand for this myself.

Cool contest Julian! Wow! There are 2 awesome entries all ready! Great job so far guys. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. I wish I had more free time, I would do a graffiti piece and take a picture of it.

thats what i meant Clint, it  wont let me upload pics of my custom figures,dio, or art.....even tried my old camera (that is the one i used before, to take blurry pics) and nothing....so....no more custom anything from me

Ok guys this competition is about to enter it's final phase...we could do with some more entries!

What about someone taking some pictures of their customs in Star Wars Poster style? c'mon someone needs to set up the Luke with Lea splayed in fron of him and Vader in the background with a zillion X wings flying away from the Death Star 70's style....

With the end of the month we have 3 entries.... not a huge number, but not to worry, more chance of winning...

There is still a few days left, and just a reminder of your prize. The winning entry will be put onto a canvas, the winner will also have an exclusively designed Avtar and Banner...

LOL! that's a very good question CC! That's a bit like asking "how do I customise a figure?" there is no easy answer I'm afraid. What I will say is that this is not necessarrily a Photoshop contest. People need to have a bit of imagination. For example Niktom, who creates YAk's Pub, he uses humour, or Spudafett, he has his own unique style when it comes to creating custom figures. Art is not all about technical skill, it's about creativity. If you are creative you can use your imagination to create something that is so unique it can be totally awesome.

If the winning entry cannot be put onto a canvas then an alternate prize will be offered...so don't think you need to be a Photoshop wizard to enter. I will also be asking voters to consider age and creativity before putting forward a vote.

I hope you find something that will tantilise us!

MR1,

Good old fashioned pencils, paint,and paper, alternatively a camera, but you may want to add a caption or text to the photo. I'm pretty sure that there are basic photo editing software available free to download. Power point can used to add text, you can then ctrl+prtsc sysRq (print screen) and transfer the work to Microsoft Paint. You'll need to crop the image to complete the job....

That is Obi-Wan fighting A'Sharad Hett, and the other side is an image I found of old Quinlan Vos.  I just couldn't get the two sides to blend well enough to my liking, but I love the subject matter!

Hey guys, long time no post...


It's been awhile since I've touched a custom, and I saw this contest and thought I'd give it a go... I've been messing with PS more and more, tinkering so I thought, why not?

Anyway, I thought of my idea from the AoTC poster w/ Anakin and Padme back to back, something about a Jedi not supposed to be in love. I remember seeing the huge banner at the movie theater of that, and always loved it.

Being the Anv. of Empire, I wanted to do a similar poster, but something to do w/ Empire. I kept tinkering with Luke and Vader pics, but for some reason, I just wasn't happy... Then someone said something in the other room, and my son said(kinda in a cocky manner too), "I know".. and I thought of the carbon freezing chamber scene...

All the pictures I could find online were all grainy and looked like they came from a VHS screenshot, so I figured, why not just take the pics of the figures, lol... anyway, without boring you too much, knowing I'm not that skilled with PS just yet, I found a ghetto way to light my pics(holding clear red plastic pieces in front of my light) and after taking about 200 pics, I went to work and this is what I came up with.

Hope you like, I had a fun time making it... took about 6 hours to do... DOH!

EDIT: okay, THAT'S HUGE!!! Sorry... I might go back and put some orange in there, if I can without screwing it up, might not be able to seeing I'm going on vacation soon.. oh well, Han looks good in pink, lol.

Hello all!!

Today i got a knock at the Front door and upon opening said door i had a delivery from TNT....

and what was in the package you ask? Answer: out of the goodness of Jules' heart and out of his own pocket i received my second part of my Prize for winning the Poster Competition,  AN A3 Size canvas Print of my design that was voted by all you great guys here at the Yards!!

here are some pics for you guys as i open this bloody amazing Gift!! i must say that this poster looks 100 times better in canvas and in hand!!

when unwrapping the bubble wrap it just kept on rolling and rolling.... there was over 3 meters of bubble wrap around this bad boy!!

Thanks again Jules i just showed my parents and they were speechless at how awesome it looks they said i should do more and sell em...lol
