Nice entries to this great contest. Some members work, I might recognize, but I can't be sure. It is going to be a hard choice for me. I have about two or three favorites.

Just joined after seeing the contest, I saw it on the front page and I have been a "lurker"

Some were great others not so much, but I liked the gunship landing and the underwater lab.

I'm a bit disappointed in some of the entries. There are quite a few entries with just a customized figure (which do look great, don't get me wrong!!) and nothing much else going on. It's hard to tell what scene or event is being displayed, you know. And do I see a Gunship and Clones being digitally cut and pasted on a background?

And I hope the date on the pics of the last entry is incorrect, unless entering a 4+ year old setup is allowed  :)
Title: Re: New Year Custom Contest Voting

The date stamped entry is no longer valid as that member has been banned,

Posts from Clone General 1977 and Clone General JR, have been removed from this thread, His entry was #7, doubtfull anyone would vote for that but it is now VOID.

Both accounts are banned for reasons not linked to the contest entry

Incom,
the contest requirements were as follows: "Entry will be a diorama in 3 ¾  action figure scale consisting of member constructed diorama and a minimum of 1 custom figure or vehicle. The entry must be themed from any of the Republic Commando novels by Karen Traviss."

If you find the entry fitting the requirement, it is obviously legit.
Personally, I am a bit disappointed that there are not more entries. The forum staff is not participating for good reason, but there are so many talented customizers on here who could or would not participate in the contest for some reason or other. But then, not everybody may have had the time to do so.
In short: there's always something to gripe about.

I would have loved to made something for this but with other projects I've done lately there was just no way. In most every contest or group event so far it would have been nice to have a few more entries. Lastly I have never read the novels and was not compelled with any great ideas and that is what it takes to get me going. Good luck to those who entered and most of all I hope you had fun with your creation.

Just to clarify

"The forum staff is not participating for good reason"

The contest was open to everyone, but when it is open to everyone it is a blind vote and all registered members can vote, that way the work speaks for itself, rather than who made it.

I haven't been on or customizing a lot due to medical and other personal  issues, I wasn't going to be able to get mine done and instead of throwing it together and then being stuck with a crappy diorama, I figured I'll just wait and finish it later.

I talked to my friend who helped up build our big Hasbro Clone Wars diorama CONTEST ENTRY (http://goodtogocustoms.com/forum/index.php?topic=5656.msg65243#msg65243), and one thing he mentioned that I'm sure was a factor on the low turn out.. the time of year.  Diorama and vehicles are bigger than a lil' custom figure, they take up more space and I know here in Chicago, I have to do that type of building in the garage and basement... that being said, I think the average temperature here in the last 3-4 months is something like 20 degrees, give or take 5 degrees... there was a time when it was "warm" out and in the upper 20s and me and my cousin were in my garage, double ups on clothes so he could help me build the wooden box that will become my asteroid smuggler's hangar... but even that was hard to do and has barely been touched since.

I really think my friend hit it right on the money on the timing of the contest equaling the low turn out... heck, even at my dying message board, we had a diorama contest with a prize of $500(not hosted by me of course, cause I'm poor, lol)... and even with that amount of money, the turn out was real low...

I think maybe for the future, try to keep the bigger contests during the warmer times. I'm going to try to have another diorama contest at GTG in the fall of next year.. that way people will have like 6 months to work on it and hopefully a better turn out(though, that's if the site lasts that long.. :( )...

Anyway, I just wanted to chime in... I LOVE TRAVISS' WORK.. but there was just too much going on for me to try to attempt to finish.

The good news is Spring's almost here.. and I'll get to finish it... ;D

I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING INCOM SAYS IN HIS THREAD BECAUSE THIS WAS JUST A LAME CONTEST IMO BECAUSE IF YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO MAKE A DIORAMA HOW IS A FIGURE STANDING BY ISTELF A DIORAMA I DONT THINK IT SHOULD BE ALLOWED PLSU THE ONE THAT HAS THE PIOCTURE PASTED ONTO THE BACKGROUND SHOUDNT COUNT EITHER UNLESS YOU MAKE THE BACKGOURND ON YOUR OWN COPMUTER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT BECAUSE THAT IS NOT FAIR EITHER IF SOMEONE ELSE MADE THE BACKGROUND AND YOU STEAL IT TO WIN A CONTEST

sorry just saw that my caps lock was on but i dont want to type all that again hahahaha

i was trynig to work on something for the contest but i didnt have enough tyme to do it all because i still cant make custom stuff at home yet so i still have to go to my friends houes and he was out on vacation for two weeks with his mom and dad so i didnt have anywhere to go to work on my figures and stuff
Title: Re: New Year Custom Contest Voting

You know for someone who hasn't posted an entry it must be easy to come in and complain that it was a "lame contest"

One of the things we here at the shipyards pride ourselves on is being supportive of each others works, the folks that entered tried, some may not be exactly as the rules indicated but they are an honest attempt to participate.

If you can't offer anything constructive to the discussion of the entries, don't bother posting, We don't like folks trolling for conflict.
Title: Re: New Year Custom Contest Voting
Post by: DroidDestroyer on February 26, 2010, 06:15:27 PM
i know that you should take pride in your work and i think all the entires are good but i dont understand how they all can be a part of a diorama contest if the entry doesnt include a diorama

if my teacher in shcool for art class asked me to make a diorama and i gave her a figure without a diorama she would give me a C or a D or an F maybe because i didnt follow directions

i never sais the entry were bad and i said i wanted to make something but i am not allowed to do custom figures in my house

i guess i will just leave and never come back to the site because you dont sound like yuo want people to give their opinions unless they are the poppular people here at the site just like at my school if youre not popular and part of the 'it crowd' then nothing you say or do matters to anyone else so i guess i will go find another website to read stuff

Remember there is a big difference between opinion and being mean. How would you feel if someone called your creation "lame?" We try to be supportive here and come flying to the defense of our customizers, even ones that might not be as percieved strong as others.  This is not about popularity, it is about being supportive.  There will be no "favorites" or "popularity" contests ever at this place. Hence, the poll the users get to vote the winners you saw above.

Do you know what makes this forum special?
It is a place where where the members are extremely friendly to each other and supportive. Nobody shows an attitude.
On this forum we have what I feel are some of the most talented and gifted customizers out there. Just look at their custom threads and you will see how awesome their work is.
If they don't call anything lame here, none of us should do so either.

Now you walk in here, have not showed one single figure and lash out at people?

Show us your customs and don't hide behind "I can't work at home". Let your work speak for itself.
Title: Re: New Year Custom Contest Voting
Post by: DroidDestroyer on February 27, 2010, 04:43:10 PM
first of all i am only 12 years ald and my parents dont let me make custom figures in teh house i am not hding behind anything just because my parents dont let me play with paints and tools doesnt mean i cant make figures when i got o my firned jefs house but i dont go there all the time so thats why ididnt show nay pics of my customs yet

second thing ididnt say the entry for the contest were lame i said it was lame to enter a diorama contest with just a figure basing my explanation on my school and if my teacher said the project for school was to build a diorama and i made a figure and bruoght it to her instead of a diorama like she asked me to make she would say what the hell is that you fail

so wbhy were people allowed to enter a diorama contest if thye didnt make a diorama and why is everyone yelling at me because i didnt say it first the guy named incom said it i just thought he said something smart and said that ia gree with him but everyone is getting mad at me when i didnt say anything just agree with incom

When you used your words "lame contest" it did indeed sound like you were saying all of our entries and this contest were bad. If you were indeed meaning that some of the entries did not follow the contest guidelines there is no arguement from me there.  Perhaps it was not enough explanation in your first post and probably a quick defense of our customizers for ours. Remember, we support customizers of all ages and will come to your defense should anyone here try to call out your customized items.
Title: Re: New Year Custom Contest Voting
Post by: Clonehead on February 27, 2010, 06:11:34 PM
Yep, saying that a site's contest is lame probably isn't the way to score warm replies and as Tamer noted, we are a protective lot of our custom member's creations. That being said, you are right in that there were entries that didn't comply to the contest rules. As a registered member, you can take that into consideration as you vote for your choice. You have the power. Remember that a diorama doesn't have to be huge to be called or considered a diorama. I have dressed up 3"X5" wooden bases and called em dioramas, before.

all the entries were well done.  the custom figures were nice to see.

I noticed my opinion on the entries in general caused quite a stir. I'm sorry if my observations seem harsh, I was just being honest  :) Despite that, seven entries isn't bad at all.

I want to thank those who voted for me and I'll post more pics of my dio and the custom figures in my customs thread.

I'm anxious to see what the next contest will be, although I'm not sure I'll be able to enter that one too.

My entry was #2,   I wanted to do more weathering and rock detail but I ran out of time,  I will post some WIP pics on how I made the cliff and so forth, now the question is what am I going to do with the base as it is probably 14 inches tall and 18x 18 square, the 3 RC's were painted as well as the gunship obviosly. pics in real sunlight will be added to my diorama thread sometime once the weather cooperates.

I appreciate the participation and Incom the observation is fine,

I want to thank those that participated and those that voted.

While this contest is over stay tuned for the one.

Well, I certainly was fooled myself as my guesses on who the creators were wrong as well. I thought I recognized Volker's work but the helmet on his son's entry threw me off.

Great job again, guys!
I will post the rules and details of the new contest in a few hours.

Incom, I will get your prize pack of parts in the mail, today.

congrats to those who entered and the winners... my guess was wrong too, lol... I voted for the Ko Sai one, that was the one that stood out to me going by the rules and I felt it captured a scene from the books perfectly... the Clone gunship one was also good and reminded me of one of the scenes in either Order 66 or 501st where the Commandos are trapped on a mountain fighting insurgents or something like that, and they're waiting to get rescued by a gunship..

Again, great job everyone, and you're all lucky I didn't enter, or I would have taken 1st and 2nd.. and even though there wasn't one.. they would have made a 3rd just so I could sweep it all!!!!

Wait.. what? Oh, sorry.. thinking out loud again...  on w/ the droids!!!!!!!
