Title: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: Phatty on August 08, 2008, 08:29:05 AM
The future of Marvel figures is here.  After this year's Build-A-Figures are released, that format will come to an end.  Hasbro debuted these new figures at ComicCon 2008, and I must say, these do look rather nice.  Not sure what I'll do with my old Legends, but they do look nice.  Plus, it opens the door for some interesting custom ideas using these, G.I. Joes, and Star Wars figures...

Other figures due to be released include The Punnisher, The Silver Surfer, Regular Johnny Storm, Bullseye, and Iron Fist.

Holy Crap, I was just saying to a friend of mine a month or so ago that Hasbro should quit the "Legends scale" and go to 3 3/4". I must be psychic! ;D

Like DA, I'm probably out of the Legends line for good, but these new 3 3/4 inch ones are nice.  I'm wondering what kinds of accessories they will come with, or what kinds of extras.  Hasbro states they will be out at a price point similar to Star Wars and G.I. Joe, so for $8, it better be good!

To be honest I am hoping they do some female figures without masks and male figures without masks, however would love to see a Shatterstar in his original outfit.

However the only ones I want to see at the min is the Punisher and Normal Johnny Storm.

However as stated with a little bit of imagination and paint you could change the Ninja one into a Sith Assassin.

Shatterstar's original outfit?!? Ick! All trace of artist Rob Liefeld's work in the Marvel Universe should be systematically expunged from continuity. Heck, he should be expunged period. "most talentless person in the field of comics ever!"

liefeld work was great(when it was on time) and the original shatterstar looks awesome.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you. How many years spent penciling and the dude still can't draw the following:

-thumbs
-feet
-faces without ridiculous expression lines
-proportions
-backgrounds
-things in perspective
-realistic weaponry

Plus the man can't even maintain continuity petween panels on a single page. As for the costumes and accessories for the original X-Force team? Cheesy and uninspired, not to mention not particularly rooted in believable reality.
What the heck were all those stupid belts, straps, weapons, pouches, goggles, etc. for? All right, I'll concede that other artists were doing similar things at the time. Jim Lee for example did similar things to the X-Men of the same time.  At least his characters'  look was consistant from panel to panel and still maintained a sleek functional design. I can recall, without even having to go look  through my back issues, a particular issue of X-Force where Mr. Leifeld had decided to redo the look of Cable's bionic arm. In the span of 3 or 4 pages, he declared the new arm in the dialogue text, drawn the new design, within three panels got bored of drawing it the new way and went back to the old version, obviously forgot which of Cable's arms was the bionic one because it switched arms and back again all the while the number of silly pouches or what type of said pouches he has and how many belts he's wearing.

The only reason this guy's crappy art was accepted, was that Todd McFarlane had a similar cartoony style, that was really revolutionary, while doing Spider-man. When Leifeld first got popular and did a few guest artist stints prior to getting the New Mutants assignment, McFarlane was inking his pencils and clearly fixing Rob's goofs. I think this was made his art more paletable at first. It sure fooled me early on. When the NM rebooted to X-Force Rob started doing his own inks and that was where it hit the fan.

As for the costume designs? Well they kinda worked but then every character, hero and villain, would start sporting similar designs. Unless they were just nameless soldier types, in those cases Rob was invariably lazy and just drew in amorphous, vaguely humanoid forms. Things like Shatterstar's headgear? Why? It's ugly and again Leifeld fails to maintain any continuity in it's size and look. It and the other similar headgear modeled by every second other character were there simply to cover up Rob's laziness to draw more faces and to help make the poorly drawn ones of other characters more easily identifiable.

Best thing that ever happened to X-force was Rob Leifeld leaving marvel. For further proof, just look at the rip off characters he created for his image teams. I could draw better than that tool when I was twelve. After he got fired from the company he helped found, I am baffled that he has found work since.

End of rant.

I have to admit I was never taken with Leifields artwork, however I did like Shatterstar's original costume, you have to remember I am looking at it from a different view point than you, I am looking at it for customising purposes, not collecting purposes.

Post by: Obi-Sean Kenobi on August 12, 2008, 10:49:33 PM
Fair enough. I thought his second costume was better though. I supose the first one would be better custom fodder. The second one was more superheroish than star warsy. I just get a little riled up by the mention of Rob Leifeld. That guy is such a hack.

To be honest I would like for them to do the Imperial Guard, Starjammers (Especially Hepzibah - the new version she is very piratey).

And also Kofi, if people dont know who Kofi is he's this guy.

First and foremost, let me say I'm a HUGE fan of Liefeld, and he's one of the reason I started to collect comics.  X-Force was and always will be my favorite title and team out there.  While I understand what you are saying about his art style, it is just that, his art style.  All artists have their own rendition of characters, and if you aren't a fan of Liefeld for the reasons stated, then you'd also have to hate Portacio, Texiera, and a slew of others who in their own style brought life to many characters.  And of course, that's fine!  I always thought McFarlane for instance made his characters too lean in the limbs but too bulbous in other areas.  Now, if we want to continue this discussion, which looks to be fun, let's start it in it's appropriate place.  Right now, let's get back to the discussion about these new figures...
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures

Not true, I like all the other artists you listed, except McFarlane. Him I don't like because I've met him and he is a jerk.

As you said, back to figures.

LOL!  Okay, so when these do hit (and I'm not sure when), who will be buying these for the actual figures and who will be buying them just for customs?
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: Cimter on August 14, 2008, 12:15:25 PM
For customs count me in, for anything else nope not interested, not saying they arent good figures - just not into superheroes as much as I used to be, I do like a few but its very minimal, compared to most of you.
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: Phatty on August 14, 2008, 03:35:34 PM
For me, the $8 price tag might turn me off.  It's better than the $10-$12 for the current Legends, but after I've already collected an entire bookcase full of Legends, it'll look odd to have these.  There are some definites, like Captain America and Ronin, but we'll have to see about the rest...

Also, I wonder about the articulation...will they be like G.I. Joe or Star Wars?
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: Obi-Sean Kenobi on August 14, 2008, 07:33:08 PM
For me it depends. I'm not really into customs. I find that every time I plan on one to fill a visual gap in my collection, Hasbro usually releases it within the next year or so. I learned to just be patient.

I would most likely buy these for what they are as I am a huge Marvel fanboy but I will abstain from making a decision until I see more characters I would buy. Namely, more X-men please!
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: Cimter on August 15, 2008, 09:15:39 AM
Thats the reason when I do start customising, they will be Fan Customs - not of any established character or background character, the way I see it is that they will eventually do all the characters I want, just a matter of time.

Dang, that sucks.  I'll be honest though, their price point will probably help me decide on whether or not to keep my old Legends.

I was really excited when I heard about these figures,  I've always wanted Marvel figures in this scale for customizing purposes.  I will however have to collect a few favorites like Captain America, Ironman, Nick Fury (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/NYCC09/Hasbro/Universe/image36.asp), Spider-man, X-Men.  However figures like Blade (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/NYCC09/Hasbro/Universe/image19.asp), Ronin and a few others I'll have to use for customs!
CTR.com (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/NYCC09/Hasbro/Universe/default.asp) has some pics up from NYCC, there also seems to be a vote on the top 5 of heroes you want to see made!

dont know how it will affect customizing but these will actually be 4 inches tall and not 3 and 3/4

I was able to see these in hand at Meijer the other day, and bought an X-Force version Wolverine (Black and Grey duds).  It looked to be about 3 3/4" to me, but I plan to take photos for review of it, so when I open it, I'll compare them to SW for everyone.  The price was $8, but Meijer is usually higher anyway.  The detail looked nice.  It did come with a machine gun and Katana, annoyingly enough.  I forgot to look at the others and see if they came with accessories or not.

If I remember correctly they are about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch taller then SW figures, but I usually just use the heads for customs and ditch the rest or find some other use for them. For the one I'll be collecting it's not like they are going to merge with my SW setup so it really wont matter to me that much.

I went back to Meijer and picked up Iron Man and Daredevil.  Apparently, they're not due out until Spring or so, but I think Meijer let the cat out of the bag early!  If anyone happens upon Captain America, Ronin, "Flame" Johnny Storm, or Iron Fist, please pick them up for me!

Well there is a street date stamped on the cases for 3/1/09 so anyone lucky enough to spot these on the pegs early well you're lucky! ;D
These are case packed very different then SW figures, done more like G.I. Joes were, originally when I first saw the box I wouldn't have believed that 12 figures actually fit inside!

Where I work I'm the receiving manager so I see just about everything that comes in. I'm not sure why they get put out you can clearly see the street date, our computers even have a warning flash when you scan the items that they cannot be sold until march first.

No kidding...what store, might I ask?

Don't worry it's not like I can get anything no one else does, my store does not get the best selection and shipments are few and far between, I very rarely find anything good here. I usually end up having to go on road trips  out of town to Walmarts and Targets to get stuff I really need besides they are cheaper! Once in a while I have a nice score here, but since I'm fairly busy usually customers get to it before me.

lol!  No, I wasn't trying to get an inside scoop, I was just curious.  I like to see where our members come from.

On another note, I was at that same Target today, and they had restocked the Marvel Universe figures again!  Not the ones I wanted, but I did see the Punisher, Johnny Storm (F4 costume), Stealth Iron Man, Black Panther, and Spider Man.  Still no Captain America, Ronin, Flame-On Johnny Storm, or Iron Fist.

Anyways to date I've bought both Ms. Marvel variants, just finally scored Captain America on ebay as no sign of him in stores, my next target is to get Iron Man Ronin, and Spidey, then it's a waiting game until Blade, Colossus, Nick Fury.

The only 6" figs that really fetched any real money aftermarket were from the first 2 waves, and some of the variants.  By the time they started doing the Build A Figure lines, they were easier to find, and then Hasbro saturated the market.  I wish Toy Biz still made them!

I still regret not picking up the red skull when I found him in walmart, I don' t even like him, but I'm sure I could trade him for someone I do, lol.

I have giant man and galactus, and the sentinel, and apoc, and annihulus, and to me, they all fit nicely with the 4 inch figures, so this'll be money saved.

...until the sentinels come out.

That Galactus really looks Awesome!
Though I think the best news for me was to see that Jean Grey (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/sdcc09/hasbro-marvel/image16.asp) is coming especially in this outfit!
Also the confirmation of Magneto (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/sdcc09/hasbro-marvel/image9.asp), and Hawkeye (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/sdcc09/hasbro-marvel/image6.asp) is good news!
Colossus (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/sdcc09/hasbro-marvel/image54.asp) from the Wolverine line  looks really cool too!

I realize they probably couldn't use the Jean mold for other female figures, but I don't see why they couldn't pump out Rogue she could be a basic repaint of Ms. Marvel and add a Jacket! I really hope they get to Mystique very soon!

I'm glad you were able to find Iceman Pat, I'm done with this line until the Jean Grey wave hits.
Now I just need to find Colossus from the Wolverine line.

If I find that Colossus, I'll pick you up one as well.  I'm trying to find that one as well.  I'm not even sure which wave of these they're on currently, but I'm definitely looking forward to the Jean Grey as well.

I saw those also, but the only one I want is the "new" Captain America/Bucky figure.  No use for that Iron Man, and the Giant Man looks JUST like the build a figure one with slight paint variation.

Yeah, the Sentinels are nice to have.  I only have the one from the BAF series.  If more came out in this method, I may pick one up.  If you pick up the Super Skrull pack and DON'T want the Captain America, I'd gladly buy him off of ya.

I might be interested in this line. Does any of you know if they're in scale with SW and GI Joe figures? What I like about these figures is that a lot of them have these skin tight suits. You can easily use that Daredevil torso to paint it in a skin tone, so it's a bare torso  :)

Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures

These are SLIGHTLY taller than Star Wars or G.I. Joe.  Not by a whole lot, and depending on which character, they're very usable as custom fodder.

Personally, I love these.  I wish they weren't $8.50, but they're awesome!

I picked up 2 more today, along with one that Wayne had sent me earlier this week, so I got Jean Grey, Warpath, and House of M Spider-Man

Jean Grey, the Jim Lee version everyone's been begging for for years: Disappointed.  No neck articulation, so she's always looking down, and her face is so far off it hardly looks like her.  She looks very uncomfortable.

Warpath: Probably my favorite figure in this line, period.  Warpath comes from my favorite X-Team of all time, X-Force, and his new, darker version of himself in a much darker and deadlier X-Force is fantastic, and this figure is built SO well!  I have nothing but praise for this one!

House of M Spider-Man: One of the few who knew the House of M alternative universe was false while he lived it, this version of Spider-Man was a celebrity, loved and admired by all.  Uncle Ben was alive and well, he was married to Gwen Stacy, and they had a child together.  It was Peter's greatest fantasy, yet lived in a nightmare.  An excellent looking costume, very detailed and vivid.  I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan, but I love this figure.

These are just short notations, not full reviews.  Stay tuned for those!

I belive that hasbro agrees with you as they have used that torso over and over and over.  Only thing bugs me about that is the inflated price tag on them, it would seen at that price they would try to spend more on molds rather than reusing the same one over and over.

On the whole though they haven't made anything I am interested in yet, where's cable or others like that, and I thought they would have done some War of Kings figures by now.

Colossus
Havok (1980s variant)
Kitty Pride
Juggernaut

I'm STILL looking for the Thor from last wave, and no sighting of the modern Havok or Archangel, which I need at least 3 of!

I'd like the Galactus, but for $60, it's a bit steep for me.  I also really wanted the Ages of Thor figure, but I missed my shot, I believe.

On another note, I've found the variant Havok (80s version) and variant Archangel (Death Mask), but not the regular versions.  That's a rarity, but all of the Targets in my area got the variant cases instead of the regular ones!

I beilieve (not certain) the retail version will be $40 to $50, only difference is the packaging and you get a Silver Surfer figure with it.

I've been on the prowl, thanks to the Holiday season, in search of the newer Marvel Universe figures.  A little success, a lot of failure, but what can ya do?  In the past week or so I've found Modular Armor Iron Man, Spider-Man 2099, and Spider Woman.  Still so many holes to fill in my collection, but I'm chipping away.
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: zedhatch on December 08, 2010, 10:33:01 AM
Many of the holes might be fillable in the next few months.  The gap between the current (World war hulk) and next wave is going to be slightly longer and filled with revision cases that are intended to give us some HTF figures like Archangel (Both), Havok (Ditto), Sunfire, Vision, Moon Knight, Bullseye, ect. ect.  Good chances people (like me) who have missed some important stuff will find it.
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures

I did see that there are going to be revision cases sold, so I hope stores stock those.  I actually passed on the World War Hulk when I picked up SM 2099 and MA IM because I didn't have a lot of cash on me, and I'm regretting it now.  Oh well, I'm betting he won't be a hard one to find.
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures

There is a rush on WWH, but I think it will pass, especially with the fact he is in practically ever revision case as well.

Last year there was a revision case that was similar to these but the failure was the fact that they were overloaded with "popular" (read pegwarming) figures like Iron Man and such.  This years looks a bit better though with much better case ratios (while still including the IM and ect, but limiting them somewhat as well).  Thus I think these will sell through fast but still be easy to find.  Just a guess on my part though.

I was able to pick up a WW Hulk and Doc Samson today while out looking for other things.  Doc's pretty plain, but looks nice none the less, and WW Hulk is just plain massive.  Very detailed and some cool accessories.  I also forgot to mention I got Mystique from Zed (not sure why I am posting that, since I think only Zed and I really keep up with this thread!), and a 70th Anniversary set Namor the Sub-Mariner (the speedo version) from eBay for a pretty good price.  I'm chipping away at them, so now I just gotta hope some of those revision waves hit hard enough to fill those holes!

Well, I scored a loose Sunfire and modern Havok, no accessories, from a seller in China last night for $23 shipped.  Not the best price, but not the worst either.

While browsing, I found many auctions for variants of Warpath (in Thunderbird colors) and DareDevil (His black and red outfit) that I had never seen before, as well as the variant Vision (Phasing).  I'm wondering if in some of the recent waves, they packed these 'repeats' in with variants instead of standard colors.  I'm definitely after the red and blue Warpath, though nowhere around here has stocked anything since well before Christmas.  Plenty of Iron Mans hanging off the pegs, and that's about it.  I'm getting closer and closer to just ordering cases off of BBTS or HTS just to ensure I get some of the ones I want.  The latest wave especially, which contain Cable with Hope, Apocalypse, 1st appearance Wolverine, Jim Lee Cyclops, and Gladiator.  They all look amazing and I know if I don't order them, I'll lose out on them.

Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures

My thoughts are, I'm loving the picks they're coming up with. Darkhawk? Are you kidding me? An awesome character that didn't get a lot of hype. I say bring on Sleepwalker too! I like the costume for Cable, and I want ALL of the new X-Force, so since I most likely won't be getting the black/silver Archangel, I want the rest like Psylocke, Wolfsbane, Elixer, and the rest. I want a modern, normal (not comic) version of Doom, so that works too, and I'm liking the new Steve Rogers. Overall, I'm pretty stoked about these, even if I'm going to have to buy cases to get them.

However,i am curious to hear your thoughts.
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: zedhatch on February 13, 2011, 10:05:10 PM
Mostly I love darkhawk, Strange and Falcon (already talked about apoc wave so that one is clear).

But the rest leave me cold, HATE the idea of Steve Rogers, I dispise repaints so Ultron and Doom fall short (nevermind I would have hoped some of the articulation issues with Doom would be fixes but he is a straight repaint), Skarr looks like Hulk in a wig, I actually laughed when I saw him.  I have always hated Scarlet Spider (Often refer to him as Spider-Bum), Never really been a huge Namor fan either.  X-23 leaves me cold, she reminds me of Marvel's joke character Wolverina.

The Comic packs are better, but I hate the First Class one (Ugly Jean) and the Wolvie?Sabertooth one (Pointless IMO).   I have never been a full fan of that look of Capt. britan either (and I DON't need another spidey, I am beyond burnout there).  I like the Powerman and Iron Fist but wish IF had a better mold rather than the same one with some stuff added on.

That's a rough rundown

2011 Wave 3 is up for preorder at Big Bad Toy Store, set of 5 for $49.99.  Set includes:

1x Doctor Strange
1x Falcon
1x Scarlet Spider
1x Dr. Doom
1x Skaar

I ordered just the set of 5 instead of a whole case.  The whole case comes with 2 of each of these, plus a Gladiator and Apocalypse, but I'm already getting doubles of those two in my Wave 2 I ordered and promised to Zedhatch.  Since I have no custom use for these two, then I don't need a whole case!  Zed, you may want to get to ordering this before it goes away!

Hasbro Toy Shop actually had some things in stock this morning, and still have them tonight.  I picked up the Ghost Rider, Multiple Man, and Dark Hawkeye that I've been looking for.  Passed on Iron Man 2020 and Iron Spiderman.  Beats eBay prices, that's for sure!

Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: Phatty on March 10, 2011, 08:47:14 AM
Yeah, it was easy to pass on because 1. There is an entire Iron Man line clogging the pegs already, and 2. There is an Iron Man or Spider Man in just about EVERY wave that comes out anymore.  Plus, it was such a forgettable character, I can't believe that is the one they chose to make.
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: zedhatch on March 10, 2011, 03:24:28 PM
Actually it wasn't the overabundance of Iron Man, it was the fact that so little effort was done with the figure to make a cool representation of the old school villian (which is one I really liked even though I never liked most of his appearences cause marvel did so little with him).

I mean an evil rendition of your relitive that inherits your company is booming with potential and Marvel never ever even tried with it IMO.

But the fig was lazy, even moreso than a straight repaint, there is where my problem with it was.  Hasbro is pretty lazy with this line anyway but they could have done soemthing (like making the gear arms a part of the fig rather than an attachment and doing more with the face rather than making him frown).

But to be honest that whole wave was a bit of a letdown, not becuase of character selection but in execution.   Don't get me wrong I kept them, but I was expecting so much more at this point from Hasbro and it was like they took a step back.

Big Bad Toy Store has opened up preorders for 2011 Waves 4 and 5.

Wave 4: (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HAS20664&mode=retail)
Ultron x2
Darkhawk x2
Sub-Mariner x2
X-23 x2
Steve Rogers x2
Falcon x1
Doctor Doom x1

Wave 5: (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HAS20666&mode=retail)
Tony Stark Iron Man x2
Iceman x2
Absorbing Man x2
Astonishing Wolverine x2
Magneto x2
Sub-Mariner x1
Steve Rogers x1

Guardians of the Galaxy Pack: (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HAS20671&mode=retail)
Star Lord
Drax
Rocket Raccoon
Groot

I'm pretty stoked for Darkhawk, Steve Rogers, X-23, and even Ultron in Wave 4, and Astonishing Wolvie, Magneto, and Iceman in Wave 5.  I ordered sets of 5 (the new ones) from each wave for $50, which is still more than retail, but so much easier than trying to hunt them down.  As for the GotG set, I was thinking of the original characters when the comic first came out, and the only one in this set that intrigues me is the Drax.  I may pick it up at retail if I see it, but if now, I'm not gonna be heartbroken.
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures

X-23 and Darkhawk are my only interests in wave 4

Wave 5 WTF
Tony Stark Iron Man Am hoping this is unmasked Stark from the 3-pack (maybe with some alteration to avoid likeness issues with Downey), that's great if it is cause that was the only fig I wanted from the set.
Iceman Hoping this isn't a repack of either XMOW or Spidey 3-pack, I would really like a spikey armor and if this is anything but I probably won't care.
Absorbing Man We got doom so here is Absorbing man, only hope for this is if it is also a new "Absorbing" power (brick or something) but even then Idoubt I will grab it.  Pretty sure this will be a straight repack with slightly different colors though
Astonishing Wolverine My money is on a repaint of X-Force Repack, but I will probably pass.
Magneto With the track record we already have, I am betting SW repack with slighly different colors (Just like Doom).

This wave gives credence to the rumors Hasbro is going to start flooding the market with repaints and rehashes, literally a possiblity of no interest in the whole wave here.

GOTG 3-pack-Drax looks to be a repaint of Absorbing man mold, easy pass, Groot looks like a chia-Groot, Rocket Racoon is cool, I could care less about starlord.  Easy pass.

I'm not sure if I should thank Hasbro, or just be excited, but here are just a few of the names I'll be hot on the hunt for...

Adam Warlock
Gambit
Psylocke
Mr. Sinister
Quicksilver
Wonder Man
Astonishing X-Men Beast
Magneto (Dark Purple/newer redux)
Captain Brittain (New version I've never seen!)
Avengers Box Set (like the X-Men 5-figure set)
AoA Wolverine
Helmetless Juggernaut
Kang the Conquerer
Iceman (Totally new sculpt and outfit from what it looks like)
Kraven the Hunter
Beta Ray Bill

The Absorbing Man, Magneto, and Doctor Doom are different in colors, at least.  There also appears to be alternate versions of Dr. Strange (Mystic Plane) and Absorbing Man (Black skin), so there are definitely a lot I'm looking forward to.  I'll be posting pics later when I have the chance.

Y'all let me know if the Tony Stark Iron Man has an unmasked Tony - I need that head!  In fact, you Marvel hunters, drop me a PM and I'll set you up with my cell # so you can email/txt me from the field upon first contact.  In fact, if you have a camera on your cell and could shoot a pic to send me when you see it, that would be awesome.

Scouts out!

(I know, Army thing even tho I'm a Marine.  But it was appropriate...  ;D )

I did see a pic of it, and it does have a removable helmet where Tony is wearing a hood but you see his face, and it's comic style - not movie style.  At least that's how it looked.  I'll post pics later tonight or tomorrow.

Some thoughts on what we have seen.

Adam Warlock: Turned out well, I like it.
Thanos:  Looks like a different head, a cool deco, will be getting as he is part of the Warlock pack, but cool.
Gambit:  Looks like XMOW repaint with new head and scarf.  I kind of like it, people are hopeing for fixed wrist articulation but I am not holding my breath
Mr. Sinister: Recycleing of Colossus, but I do like it, looks like gambit is coming to the fold even if I didn't want him to.
Psylocke:  YAY!  I admit she could be better, but not terrible at all.
Quicksilver:  My fav comic pack from the Toyfair reveals but good to see.
Wonder Man:  See above
Astonishing X-Men Beast:  Wish it was more classic blue fur beast, but I will probably grab.
Magneto (Dark Purple/newer redux):  Better than I expected, looks like they are going for an Ultimate Magneto look there.  Some are scoffing this but I dig it, but not going out of my way for it.
Captain Brittain (Original costume!):  Not something I would go ga-ga over, pass.
Avengers Box Set (like the X-Men 5-figure set):  Some cool mods here, Thor with exposed sides, Cap with "energy" shield, but not enough to make me want it.
Astonishing Wolverine:  Pass, I am glad so many are happy, but I am soooo burned out on wolvie.  I have never been a huge fan of his Astonishing look anyway, he is kind of cool, but not cool enough for me to grab.  But then again I said the same thing about 1st app Wolvie.
Helmetless Juggernaut:  I like, but not sure about another Colossus, will think about it.
Iceman (Clear): WOW it looks like his X-Factor uniform and I have to say I am surprized with this one, Will get.
Kraven the Hunter: YES!!!!!
Beta Ray Bill:  HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL, LOVE IT!!!!!
HULK, AT LAST, the hulk I have wanted since this line began!!!!!!!!!
The Absorbing Man Like the variant, again not going out of my way for.  Will get if I ever see it.

Phatty, where did you see Kang the Conquorer, I missed that one.

Ya know, I think it was Klaw, not Kang.  Sometimes I get my villains mixed up.  That also could have been one of their Legends that they're releasing.  I'll have to go back and look again, if I ever get around to posting those pics!

I have to agree with all of your assessments on the new ones we've seen.  It'll be a good year for MU in my opinion.  I just wish those comic packs were a bit cheaper.

Klaw is in the new legends figs so that makes sence.  I get makeing mistakes on characters names, I do it all the time, still when you said Kang I got kind of excited LOL.

And let the hunt begin...

http://www.marvelousnews.com/index.php?catid=23&itemid=14302

Variant Fantastic Four set, featuring Thing, Invisible Woman, and Mr. Fantastic in their Future Foundation costumes, to go along with the Future Foundation Spider-Man coming out in Wave 2 of 2012.  Good luck finding these since I haven't even seen any of the regular ones to begin with.

Also, I picked up a Cable and Jim Lee Cyclops today at Wal-Mart.  The Cable is for a custom in his X-Force colors, and the Cyclops is in case someone needed one.  Zed, did you need an extra?

Nice score, nice to hear those are hitting pegs already!

My Wave 4 MU figs (Steve Rogers, Ultron, Darkhawk, Namor, and X-23) arrived on Wednesday, and I finally got my X-Force 3-Pack set this morning, and my Wave 5 MU figs are set to be delivered this afternoon!  Big Marvel week in my house, especially since I bought, beat, and am playing through the 2nd time, the new X-Men: Destiny game!

And how about that??  Got my Wave 5 today, and what did I find in there?  The "iron skin" variant of Absorbing man!  Nice wave of Magneto, Absorbing Man, Astonishing Wolverine, Iceman, and Tony Stark Iron Man.  Truth be told, I'm not that huge of a fan of the Astonishing Wolvie or Tony Stark Iron Man.  The other 3 are pretty sweet though.

Herucles
Angel (blue, red variant)
Nighthawk
Modern Nova
New Avengers 3-Pack (Red Hulk, Bleeding Edge Armor Iron Man, Thor, all look like repacks)
Professor X with Hoverchair!!!
Jubillee (possible variant)
Blastaar
Medusa (Inhumans)
Karnak
Bearded Thor with War Helmet
Thor Frog

New Marvel Legends:
Thor
Constrictor
Iron man
Commander Rogers
Piledriver and Thunderball (running changes for them, from one to the other
Madamme Hydra and Madamme Mask (running changes like above)
Big Time Spider-Man with running change to Future Foundation Spider-Man
US Agent
Jim Lee Punnisher
Modern Blade
Archangel
90's Jim Lee Jean Grey!!!!
Stryfe
Moonstar
new retooling of the White Queen/Emma Frost

Also mentioned in the panel were...
Northstar in the works in the MU line
Avengers Villains box set such as Masters of Evil in the MU line
Amazing Bag Man
Arcade for the MU line
Rogue in the MU line

A lot of good picks for these for sure!  I love the picks, as seeing some obscure/not every day characters are keeping the line fresh.  Apparently, there'll be plenty of Wolverines as well, though it wasn't mentioned if these would all be straight repacks or new in any way.

Thor Frog was the greatest reveal EVAR!!!!

Seriously I never thought I would see that one.

Funny how NOW they are doing so many Thor variations (Ultimate Thor, Asguardian Thor, Thor Frog) I mean this could have made the Thor line worthwhile if they had learned to make these with the Thor movie line.
Title: Re: 3 3/4" Marvel Figures
Post by: Phatty on October 16, 2011, 09:42:47 AM
I agree totally.  I love seeing some of these obscure figures.  For as many variations of the same armor that they trotted out for Iron Man, I just didn't understand why some of these great figures weren't in the Thor line.  Even the Wolverine line had some great additions from the comics, such as Iceman, Astonishing Cyclops, and my favorite and most difficult to find, the shirtless Colossus.  I like sculpt of the bearded Thor quite a bit, as well as the Thor Frog.

The most anticipated for me is probably going to be the Marvel Legends 90's Jean Grey.  They missed the mark with the MU version so bad, and the sculpt for the Legends one looks fantastic.  Here are some images from Marvelousnews.com...

No Target out of the 7 or 8 in striking distance around me ever carried anything past series 4, first wave.  They are all clogged with multiples of Gladiator.
I have become so frustrated with Target's lack of effort in the toy department, that I've essentially stopped collecting MU, and retail figures in general.
I just offered a MOSC 60 figure lot to BBTS for store credit.

An incredible twist of fate today! Yesterday, my birthday, I was totally stoked to receive a hulk movie figure in the mail. Too bad he was the wrong one; however, he had the right head. What was I to do? he clearly was the figure in the photo, I just totally messed up and bought the wrong body for what my project is. After hunting through the auctions on ebay, I found the right figure I needed. You wont believe it, but the seller lives DOWN THE STREET from me!!!! I couldn't believe it either. messages back and forth, long story short, I got the proper figure and am now just unbelievably happy. What an awesome birthday!!!

My preorder from Hasbro Toy Shop came in early (original estimated ship date was 6/8/15). I got my 3 "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" Scarlet Witch figures I wanted for their heads and Hex effects.

I also got another example of Hasbro's great Quality Control. One of the figures' legs is completely unpainted showing raw black plastic (see the second pic for a close up comparison shot of the factory error and correct figures).

A lot of "collectors" would immediately put this up on ebay with some ridiculously exaggerated description like "SUPER RARE! ONE STOCKINGED LEG VARIANT! VHTF!!!!" and a BIN of 4-10 times the retail price, but I really don't care.

I photographically documented the error for posterity's sake and to remind my fellow collectors and customizers to check every figure carefully before purchase :)

That's hilarious, and a good reason why I no longer collect.  Hasbro has made it clear that all they are concerned with is your money, not happiness.  Since you use these for customs, are there certain ones you're looking for?  I'm liquidating the majority of my collection, and have almost every single figure from the first 3 years of them or so, all open and in a box.  If you're interested, make a fair offer and they can be yours before the next weekend!  I can also spread them all out for you and take a picture if you'd like.  PM me and let me know if you're interested.
