The levitation arm from the dagobah playset?
Title: Re: Name that Part
Post by: Mr. Black on November 10, 2009, 12:28:28 PM
Difficult to see. Always in motion, the past is.... Haven't got a clue, but it's not from a figure. Just for the record: "vintage" is Kenner days, right?

I think it's from a vehicle, but I have no idea which. Or perhaps it's from the Droid Factory Playset??

EDIT: Darth C, I think you're right! Just looked up some pics of that one and it sure looks like it. Good call!!

It is the levitation arm from the Dagobah playset   Good job Chad,

And Yes all items here in this section are Kenner 1978-1985

HOTH Ice Planet Playset, circa 1980.

Not to be confused with the Imperial Attack Base or Rebel Command Center.

Off topoc, but why is it so hard to find replacement backdrops for these things? I never see these for sale on eBay, just the whole playsets. I hate the thought of buying the whole thing over again when I just need the cardboard piece...
Title: Re: Name that Part
Post by: Reconsgt on November 20, 2009, 07:15:57 AM
Yes it is,

As to your question,  There are more plastic remnants of teh playsets in most cases than the less durable cardboard so many folks find themselves in the same situation as you, looking for the easily damages parts, Try call the Earth Toy Mall from time to time to see if they get any in.

I am also very anti Repo,  I don't mind collectors wanting to replace items, I HATE sellers passing them off as genuine.

Anti-repo? Yeah, I guess we all share the same feeling  ;D. Anti-repro in most cases too, though. That is indeed a serious crime in our little corner of the galaxy  >:(. I had a bad experience once with a POTF R2-D2 with Pop-Up Saber, which came with a repro saber. The seller stated it was 100% genuine and from his childhood collection. Now, I don't mind a repro Stormtrooper or Han Solo blaster, but unique items like the Ewok weapons, Amanaman's staff, R2's saber etc. have to be 100% original.

Perhaps you've heard of this site, perhaps not, but it's practically a Holy Bible for me: http://www.loresdelsith.net/rincon/armeria/index2.htm

Check it out, if you haven't already and broaden your knowledge of the vintage accessories.

Yes indeed, I used that site often in my early days. Getting familiar with the differences is key and perhaps we should start a new topic on the subject matter, It could be advantageous to start a debate or offer info and in-site.

And Yes it was Bossks gun

well, technically, I misspoke, Jman's stuff isn't really repro, its stand in.  Instead of cheap flimsy cardboard, his is more art board with high res images...immediately distinguisable from the original crap.  His missile base got him into a  lot of trouble since an original can easily run a grand on EBay and he sold high res ones for 70 bucks, but like I said, once you see one, you'd never mistake it for the crap hasbro was selling in the early 80's, lol.

Its more for enthusiasts than collectors...so don't worry, you can still pay outrageous prices for flimsly cardboard to your heart's content, :)

This one bothered me so I had to go look through some old Star Wars photos.  Rebel Commander also came with this gun.  I never had this figure back in the day so it was tougher to identify the accessory.  I knew it had to be another ESB figure though.  So Kenner never repackaged this gun again huh?

Title: Re: Name that Part

It's from the Hoth playset, I think.  The one with the AT-AT backdrop and the elevator.  I believe the base was the same of that used in Land of the Jawas playset.  Once ESB rolled around they cast the base in white instead of tan and changed the cardboard backdrop.  I think...

now i'm totally stumped
Title: Re: Name that Part
Post by: B.R. Steel on August 26, 2010, 06:15:06 PM
Hmm.  Some sort of playset or figure display then.  Ya know, I never had the figure display that I believe was offered as a mail away with the original 12.  Perhaps this is some sort of lever that allowed one to rotate an individual stand for that display piece?
Title: Re: Name that Part
Post by: Phatty on August 26, 2010, 06:58:54 PM
I know it's not from the Imperial Attack Base, and I don't believe it's from the Dagobah playset...this one is a tough one!
Title: Re: Name that Part
Post by: Reconsgt on August 27, 2010, 04:59:41 AM
BR Steel has it, it is the lever/gear from the display set.

I agree with Darth C.  I also think it's from the droid factory--specifically the base part of the crane.

Looked through some old cardbacks and I think I've got it.  (Some might consider this cheating.)

I believe it's the belt from the Princess Leia Combat Poncho figure.  If so, it makes me wonder--was the molded holster functional?

Never had this figure as a kid--though I've since added her to my vintage collection...she's somewhere around...
