Picked this one up at TRU today for $17.95?
Aside from the elevated price, I had been looking forward to this one as it was shown in one of my favorite season 1 episodes.
Like alot of the other new vehicle releases, this one comes with a display backdrop that this time is integrated into the structure of the package. Although perferations were present on two of the seams to make the process of assembly easier, it was a booger to get that box open without ripping part of the backdrop. There were tabs all over the place with tape to boot. After carefully removing the fig and the vehicle from the box, one is presented with a decent animated obi wan sculpt with super articulation but not the clone articulation in his hands. The paint work looks good and there is a peg hole in the back from a backpack on an earlier released version. He comes with a lightsaber.
The Freeco bike is pretty awesome with 3 fold-away landing gear and a frosted front canopy that slides forward to allow access to the cockpit. The cockpit is decently detailed and has a two handled yoke that a figure can easily hold while not leaning all the way back in the seat. The color scheme looks pretty spot on and while I had thought upon viewing earlier pics that this speeder was scaled too small, upon closer inspection the size appears spot on.
For a pleasant change, this vehicle fits fairly well into it's provided cardboard backdrop diorama and looks pretty spiffy displayed in it.
Besides the elevated price, this one is a pretty solid by,especially if you are into speeders.
About the Obi Wan............Why not make us a winter geared Obi wan for this release? I'm sure that Hasbro is making one and may very well re release this craft with a snow ops obi or ani. That would have made the whole purchase a no brainer for some who might otherwise be scared off by the price.

Yay, the mini rig returns...

Good point about the snow release Obi Wan, I need to go do some of these hasbro questions before we loose em.
-
great review buddy ! thats just gone on my hit list
-
Adding to my wish list... =)
-
I cannot wait for this set! I don't mind that it doesn't come with a sub-zero ops Obi-Wan because I'm fine with a standard super-articulated one! :) Also gotta love the freeco speeder!
-
Why wouldn't hasbro put in a snow Obi-Wan, that makes no sense.
-
i just found this at my local target yesterday, boy it was such a surprise to find this cool speeder, its really been dry as a nuns......"ahem".... out here in OZ this past year and to finally find something new was such a buzz, even if it is a clone wars toy and not a legacy figure, i really like this one, and yeah Clint it was a real pain trying to open this sucker up...
-
I grabbed this one the first time I saw it. I knew I wanted one before they even anounced the toy, after seeing the episode I thought to myself "if they don't come out with that speeder as a toy I'll be making one..."
I knew though as soon as I got mine out of the package that it'd needed to be customized and spruced up.
go check out my custom vehicles thread to see how hasbro SHOULD have made this ship.....(especially at the elevated price!)

I really need to finally buy this speeder. I keep looking at it and putting it down but then wishing I had pulled the trigger later.
-
Great review.The speeder looks cool.
-

I think this vehicle is probably one of the best of the new "mini rig" style vehicles. definately worth getting, eventually... depends on how much you want to spend just to get it sooner.

now that they made a obi wan cold weather do you think they would retool the freeco speeder so that obi wan col weather would fit clint?
-
I picked up one of these, as well. It's a neat design, but I think it is a bit small to look right if you add much onto it. One complaint I have about it - and it may just be me, not the vehicle, I have trouble getting my fig's to sit right and close the canopy - it seems the canopy is too short. I'll just play with it some more and maybe figure out I was doing it wrong.
oh, and:
YAY MINI-RIGS!!!

it is quite small. the only figures that'll fit in it will be the smaller ones. I can't get a joe in mine at all, the cockpit's leg room is too short. They could have made the vehicle slightly longer and larger so that the legs of the figure actually fit up under the controls instead of to both sides of them, AND up into the front of the vehicle instead of the entire cockpit... Kind of like the x-wing's cockpit design... This vehicle SHOULD have been at least as long as the barc speeder but it's alot shorter I believe...
-
...goes to look at something...
Wonder if an action-fleet X-wing nose is close in size? I'm thinking we could cobble something up...
-

My guess is NO, CC. I couldn't see hasbro doing that at all.
-
nice review, i like this obi wan and freeco speeder
-
That's to bad cause rex in cold gear an't really fit in it so maybe if they realese a 501st legion cone in snow gear and give him a speeder you could make a nice diorama.
-
Great review Clint. I hope I can pick this one up when I make my next TRU patrol this weekend.
-
My cold weather Ani fits in the freeco... barely.
not really sure if the Obi would be much different, but his hood looks like it may get in the way.
