Jtrooper, those are the finest playsets I've ever seen, PERIOD!

You have added so many playable features I just love what you have done. The lighting is another amazing addition.

I do have on minor observaion, and it's not a nitpick, rather an idea for you to consider. On your death star you've got wide floor levels, why not buy some Polistyrene sheet and use epoxy resin to glue the panels on, you can then paint the panels to match the rest of the playset (I bought a pack of epoxy with fairly large bottles that have lasted me ages).

Your videos are great, your Boy's room is just amzing. Gosh, can you imagine having a room like that back in 77?

I also have to ask, what are you using as the frame structures on each corner of the Platform and as detailing around the Gantrys?

To me you are not a customiser but a Model/Toy maker, you should have your own catagory as you are really standing out from the crowd. Your contribution to the forums is amazing and so much appreciated, you are putting me to shame right now, but in the best possible way!

As a thank you I'm going to design you your own Banner to add to your furum profile...

I would love a bitter custody dispute with large bouts of guilt and then I could spend half my weekends here and there and get both of you to keep mass producing this stuff. Daggone what I wouldn't give to have half the creative ability I see outta you two and the other folks here.

Jules,

I wish I could spend some money on this and buy styren for the DS . I'm unemployed right now. I wish I could make more dioramas for everyone that way. But, I'm trying toshow Hasbro that you don't really need that expensive stuff for the 7 to adults that Foam core or other materials that are stronger can sustain the playset wanting from the consumer aspect.

Thank you for the comments.

Jules,

The main columns are made from 1/2" foam board and the roof and the floor of the gantrys ate 1/4 " foam board the cross on top of the gantry are going to be changed out with a concrete corner piece that looks the same way as the palsa wood pieces I cut out. It will look alot better and will be a little tougher for the kids to play with. I had to take one off to repair it. The funny thing is my boys are very carful with there stuff and certain kids are aloud to play in there room or they ell the kids what to play with.
Title: Re: Star Wars Diorama By Jtrooper
Post by: hangarbay94 on November 01, 2009, 06:36:53 PM
Wow, it's made of Foamboard, I would never have known.

What are you using for the frame structures at each corner of the platform? I ask as I haven't been able to find anything like that when i made mine.

Cheers,

Jules

I'll Take a picture of it tomarrow for you. You  can find it at Home Depot. It's the corner they place on a stucco corner of a home it made up of a hard plastic. But, its bendable and easy to cut.

Here is another video sorry for the shaking of the video. What it show are decals that Jules (Hangarbay94) has given me to make my own Jedi Temple.
I placed the images in cadd a copied them a couple of time to make the floors and walls of the Temple. I'll be making a pdf of this to share so everyone could make a large decal of the floor. Thanks you Jules again for these.

JT, it's so good to see you...

Love everything you are doing! I kinda feel sorry for your wife, mine is a long suffering Star Wars Geeks wife and all the stuff you are doing is just like the stuff I do....My wife often comes down the stairs of a morning and I just hear "Oh my god, where's my lounge!"

You seem to be having a lot of fun, and I'm really enjoying following your exploits into the land of Toymaking.

Thanks for the videos as well.

Holy cow JL, that is an amazing job. You have used the decals as a template and converted them to suit your own ideas, I am so impressed. I am interested in how you stcuk the decals to the foamcore!

My favourite detail has to be the door, the shiny decals make it look metal.

Really excellent playset, you certainly are showing Hasbro up with all of your superb work.

Jules I used a fixative spray mount that I used for years in Presentation board for projects that I worked on and I have some here that are still fixed to the board from 5yrs ago. You really need about two people to afix the large decals on the board.

It is great to see that Frank is back at NuibNuib Universe. I glad he put the Red room dio together finally. What is funny is that I did it without the step by step the same way. by the way The Temple is not finished yet need  to place some decals and make some special things for he JTS Team you will learn real soon who are the JTS and what they do for the Jedi's.  Time and space will unfold on the site of the Jedi.

Jt,

You have really amazed me, that is a superb effort, movie photonovels is definately the way to go...

Suggestions:
Try not to use a flash, use lighting instead, you should find your images become more lifelike.
Grammer, mine is bloody aweful, but you my friend need someone to proof read your work (that's what I do) you'll find that the more you write the better your grammar gets, so keep on going.

Really, I over looked all of te above while watching the vid, because the sets and layouts were  so beautiful....

You should post this in the Photonovel Forum you will be a most welcome adition to a small band of brothers!

JT,

It's been a while since I visited your corner of the Yard. You really are my hero, you are carrying the torch! that Hangarbay94 Diorama would get me divorced so hats off to you.

I really enjoy seeing your fantastic projects....and now trees!  This can only mean one thing! another diorama so aweome it cannot be viewed by mortal eyes , I will need a mirror to relect the awesomeness. Direct viewage will merely result in my destruction.

Can't wait to see what you are up to!

I love the corridor, it's just what I've been needing to make for the photonovel so I'm probably going to steal your idea.

Welcome Republic. Can't see the pictures? There are quite a few pages in this thread so it might be you need to go to different pages. I am seeing the pics ok. Try that and let me know. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to see them.

Jtrooper, just outstanding. I don't know what to say. I have never seen anything like it. Bravo.

Jules,

I am working as a contract designer for a engineeering firm they let me use there hp plotter for my dio's witch is so awesome the paper I bought along time ago when I worked with a company. The only thing I needed was the ink and the plotter. I can't wait untill Monday to produce my bridge floor and finish the DS diorama for th Falcon. I put the decals together to make one big decal and print. You seen the Platform decal I have about 2 weeks of contract work that plotter is going to be busy for a while on dio's decals

Send me a picture or a decal I'll print it and send it back to you. It comes in a 36"" x100' roll. I was just looking at the roll how much do you need a 24x36 or something bigger. And do you have a big HP Plotter to run it. I'll give it to you some just tell me how much you need.

JT, you truely are the Toymaster...

I am amazed at the things you are putting together...there has to be a touch of OCD at play here....

I've stopped making dioramas as I have run out of space, so I'm glad to see that you are continuing to make the things I'd love to build (but beter)

I am so looking forward to seeing this latest beast of a creation take form.

Awesome!
Title: Re: Star Wars Diorama By Jtrooper
Post by: JTrooper on February 13, 2010, 05:05:53 PM
Yes, I'm a little OCD. I wish I started doing dioramas years ago and It's not that I have plenty of room is that I and the boys can break the dio's down to store. But this ship is going to put me over on room I stated a shelf in the garage for the finish product. And the Boys beds are bunked up so that gives us somm room to biuld on. I'm going to ask my wife for the loft area to desplay the dio's. So wish me luck

Go to Micheals / craft store and find the plastic balls to make ornaments out of they sell them separate and at different sizes. they come in 2 halfs so you can paint the inside like I did make sure you're able to see the figure on the other side not to think of paint on the inside I mixed water in the paint and then used paper towel to dray some of the paint inside.

Cool that is what I was wondering as I bought 2 of them 2 years ago to make gunship pods and never got them finished. Great job and also you can use stained glass paint and it dries transparent in whatever color you get. I can't wait to see all of this come together. Have you worked on the bridge anymore?

I can't believe it they took my idea of a stealth ship on the Clone Wars. Man that tics me off  the Intrpid is a stealth ship just for getting thru blockcades and landing on planets. Mine was a proto type not ever used before the Planet of Cilas was a Mech planet there scientist were developing a Invisible ship for the separatist but the JTS found out when the project was almost completed and the JTS was ordered by the Jedi's to steal and kill all who were developing and steal the plans and the Intrepid for there use not for the Clones or the Republic it was mainly for the Jedi and the JTS to run mission that are fital for the Jedi order and only a few Jedi Master knew of such a ship ever existed.

JT I love this. it is a great trash to treasure diorama. Like Jules sushi box dio. Way to recycle that styrofoam packing piece, it has some great lines and your color choices make the most of everything. The foam core box and added details really bring it all together. Can't wait to see some figures in here. Great job!

I just wanted to Thank you guys for the comments. They mean alot to me. I will be adding figs soon to this diorama, but there is a twist the setting will be place years after the battle of Geo and past the Luke era. This hopfully won't be too weird for you guys. But it will be existing for me and the boys to bring back Jedi's from the pass. i can't say anymore. But it's going to be cool.

please please please no more Hoth.  don't get me wrong i love the OT as much as one else, but i'd love to see something like that turned into something outside of the movies.  some kind of enviro that we haven't seen done a dozen times before like Hoth.  the base looks spectacular as it is, but with your skill at dio's it'd be nice to see it turned into something easy like snow.  I'd go so far as to use is as a base/hideout inside of an asteroid or some cave on an obsolete planet.  You could use it for rebels or even be more creative and use it for non droid-Seperatists base/hideout, if u had some kind of alien to use as an army that is.  Whatever u do with it i'm sure it'll be great, and can't wait to see more.

I agree, update please. Though now that I look at it, it could be made into a Republic Commando level. If you've played the game like I have then you'll know that when Delta Squad goes to destroy an underground jamming device. They encounter a Geonosian birthing chamber with eggs of Geos. It would be cool if someone attempted that.

oh sh!t, hellsya. now that's what i'm freakin' talkin about right there.  u r the man.  love love love it.  the only thing i'd add is some CW Geo's just cuz they can pass for newly hatched Geo's.  but can't tell you how thrilled that u went EU for this instead of redoing Hoth.

OK Guys here it is give me a project that you would like to see as a diorama and I will do it. Give ideas if it's to add on something I already have please tell me. This will be fun and I will give update as I build it. It could be about a 24"x36" and 2' high. Also give me a picture or drawing.

Thank you

I would like to see something added to the Hoth base you started. You could either make an interior base to hold vehicles and troops or an exterior battle scene. Either way you can't loose! That wall/entrance is so cool and it needs something else to go with it.

Jtrooper, these are off the hook!  You've got some lucky kids!  I feel your pain on the storage issues, both spacial and spousal  ;).  Those are the two factors preventing me from doing anything of a similar scope. Keeping it modular like you're doing is definitely the way to go. If push comes to shove you can stash the modules in different parts of the house till the coast is clear!  I've got some styrofoam and plaster lying around...might use your pics as a reference point for something of my own if you don't mind. Keep up the awesome work!

The Slave Quarters looks awesome! This new tower looks promising as well. As for ideas, hmmm, you could use some wooden skewers or plastic rod to make a few antenea in the top of the ball. Would also be cool to see some communications terminals at the top and bottom. You could add some machenery greeblies on the side if you have some bits that would work. Good luck and can't wait to see how this developes.

And a second question came up  should I do other buildings or the cantina HUMMM stay tune for more stuff next week.

I would like to sit you and Barry in the same room with the same material and stage a new reality show: Diorama Wars!

Now THAT would be the bomb!!  Talk about one insanely seriously BAD@$$ show to watch!  I can see the side-by-side speeded-up segments as the participants raced to complete their projects...

I'm gunna hazard a guess and say that the window is either a plastic drain cap for a sink you can buy at hardware stores or some sort of vent used in plumbing....i could wrong (and probably are)  ;D

jeez JT looks like i got some looking back to do apparently i've missed a lot of ur updates. that Slave1 hangar is freakin killer. do u have a tutorial on how u work with styrafoam? i got tons of it that i've saved over the years sitting in the rafters of my garage and just never got around to it yet. mostly cuz i'm not sure how to NOT make it look like i just painted over styrafoam. u  using plaster is great for Tatooine.
