Title: 2021 marks the 5th Anniversary of Rogue One - Your ideas for TVC!
Post by: Darth More on December 30, 2017, 06:56:37 AM
Hey guys,

I was wondering if a similar topic already exists on the forum, but I haven't found anything, yet. Please correct me if I am wrong and I will post this at the right places.

Xmas is just over and I don't know how you feel close before the end of 2017. But I am really looking forward to the return of The Vintage Collection in 2018!

I am sure you already have some ideas, suggestions and wishes in mind!

What would you like to see in the continuation of TVC?

Here are some of mine:

TVC 2 Return of The Vintage Collection 2018

Anniversaries:

ANH: 1977 - 2017 (40th) – 2022 (45) – 2027 (50)
TESB: 1980 – 2010 (30th) – 2015 (35) – 2020 (40)
ROTJ: 1983 - 2003 (20th) – 2013 (30) – 2018 (35) – 2023 (40)

TPM: 1999 - 2009 (10th) -2019 (20th)
AOTC: 2002 - 2012 (10th) - 2022 (20th)
ROTS: 2005 - 2015 (10th) - 2025 (20th)

TCW: 2018 (10th)

It seems like some opportunities to celebrate three of these anniversaries were missed probably due to the takeover of the license by Disney...at least we saw a little bit of celebration with the 40th Anniversary 6" Collection...

Here are my ideas for the upcoming products by Hasbro:

Wish List:

Vehicles:

BIG One:
- Sandcrawler - Dinsney released a new Sandcrawler in 2018 for their exclusive Droid Factory line
- Jabba's Sail Barge - HasLab Project, North America exclusive, crowd funded, to be released at the end of February 2019

- Millenium Falcon - BMF Repack/Repaint?

- TIE Fighter - big version repack/repaint - comes with TIE Pilot (Walmart Exclusive 2018)
- Imperial Shuttle Tydirium - New
- Speeder Bike with Biker Scout (TRU Exclusive 2012) – Repack
- Desert Skiff – New
- A-Wing – New
- T-16 Skyhopper - New
- Bespin Cloud Car – SODTS Repack
- AT-ST - TLC Repaint / SOTDS Hoth Repack (because we can't have enough of it...)
- X-Wing (Blue Squadron) - Rogue One - New/Repaint

Creatures:

- Jabba on Throne & Oola – SOTDS Repack
- Jabba’s Rancor – TLC/TBS Repack
- Sarlacc Pit – TAC Repack/New
- Wampa - New - (similar to single packed TaunTaun)
- Ronto with Jawa – New
- Dewback - Repack - (similar to single packed TaunTaun)

Playsets:

I really hope that Hasbro continues their latest attempt of playsets so that we'll see many more playsets and diorama parts such as:

- Emperor's Throne Room
- Carbon Freezing Chamber
- Ewok Village
- Endor Shield  Bunker
- Ewok with Attack Glider
- Mos Eisley Cantina Set 1 (with 2 tables and 4 chairs)
- Mos Eisley Cantina Set 2 (with new bar section and Wuher's legendary dispenser)
Or both sets in one with Wuher included.
- Jabba's Palace

These are just a view examples and there are so many more ideas...the Ewok Assault Catapult for example was just awesome!
I think of all these great LEGO sets...LEGO makes such great sets...I wonder why Hasbro don't do so for higher play value. They always stress that children and their parents are the main purchasing power...that's probably why 5POA worked so well for the past 3 years...

Basic Figures:

Prequel Trilogy:

- Captain Panaka - NEW
- Battle Droid:
- Pilot Droid - TVC Repaint
-Security Droid - TVC Repaint
- Red Tan Battle Droid - TLC2 Repack
- OOM-9 Commander Droid - TVC Repaint

- Count Dooku (desperately needed, hasn't been paid any attention since TLC) - Repack/New

- Kashyyyk Trooper (41st Elite Corps)

- Utai II - TLC cancelled
- Darth Sidious (Office Duel)
- Agen Kolar - Repack with Robe
- Saesee Tiin - NEW
--> to complete this epic scene of the duel in Palpatine's office - we already got Master Windu and Fisto

The Clone Wars

- cancelled TLC Captain Rex
- Jedi Temple Guard
- Republic Commando "Gregor"
- ARF Trooper (realistic style)

Original Trilogy:

A New Hope:

- The original 12 (Maybe as exclusive start/kick-off of the TVC?)
If not as an exclusive multipack, then on single card, especially:
- Pricess Leia Organa - New
- Tusken Raider - New or Retool of the last TVC one with ball-jointed ellbows
- Ben Kenobi - TLC Repack
- Jawa - Repack/New
- Death Squad Commander with Mouse Droid (which was available in the exclusive SDCC Death Star Set)
- Death Star Droid - B-A-D Repaint
- C-3PO (shiny)
- General Jan Dodonna - New

- Imperial Gunner - TSC version with ball-jointed ellbows

Cantina:

- Wuher - New
- Tonnika Sisters - New
- Greedo -SOTDS Repack or New
- Momaw Nadon / Hammerhead - New or retooled TSC version
- Snaggletooth - New
- Jawa (2 Pack, with droid or more accessories...Hasbro would probably go with more acessories like with the Ewoks before. A 2-Pack is probably unrealistic since the Original Vintage figures were all single carded as well...)
- Cantina Band - New (Multipack)
- Bo'shek - New
- Dannik Jerriko - POTC retool or new
- Myo - POTC retool or new
- Feltipern Trevagg - POTC retool or new

The Empire Strikes Back:

- Lobot
- Ugnaught II - TLC
- Bespin Security Guard

- Zuckuss - SOTDS Repack
- 4-LOM - SOTDS Repack
- FX-7 Medical Droid
- Imperial Snowtrooper
- AT-AT Driver - TLC Repack
- Rebel Commander (Hoth)
- General Madine

Return of the Jedi:

Jabba's Palace:
- Yakface - New
- Bib Fortuna - New
- Giran - TLC Repack
- Malakili/Rancor Keeper - TLC Repack/slight repaint
- Skiff Guards (Hasbro already confirmed more Skiff Guards):
- Ree-Yees - TBS Repack
- Jabba's Skiff Guard - TBS #27 Repack
- Amanaman - New
- 8D8 - New
- Tessek (Squid Head) - New

- Max Rebo Band

Battle for Endor:

- AT-ST Driver (I know we actually got enough of them in TVC already...but not on card)
- Scout Trooper
- Paploo (Ewok)
- Romba (Ewok)
- Warok (Ewok)
- Chief Chirpa (Ewok) - Repack

- Yoda (ESB) - New with propper paint-job, not like TBS one...and with this snake around his neck as accessory

Rogue One:

Basically all the main characters and army-builders (just so much potential...)
I know most of them are already confirmed by Hasbro as straight repacks.

- Death Trooper
- Scarif Trooper
- Jyn Erso
- Galen Erso
- Cassian Andor
- Baze Malbus
- Chirrut Îmwe
- Director Krennic
- K-2SO

- Rebel Pilots

Vehicles:

- Imperial Combat Assault Tank (Imperial Hovertank)
- AT-ST (Jedha) - TLC repaint
- X-Wing (Blue Squadron) - TLC repaint
- A-Wing - new

EU / Legends:

- Satele Shan (wouldn't she be an excellent addition to Darth Malgus?)
- Dr. Aphra (Fan's Choice)
- Darth Revan - New
--> Hasbro gives us the TAC Darth Revan repacked on a TVC cardback
- Darth Malak - New

- HK-47
- Exar Kun - Repack
- Ulic Qel-Droma - Repack
- Darth Nihl - Repack
- Darth Talon
- Kyle Katarn
- Jarael & Rohlan Dyre
- Montross & Jaster Mereel
- Sith Trooper (KotOR)

- and so many other figures from the Comic Pack Series

- Or in best case: Return of the Comic Packs!

Solo: A Star Wars Story:

We'll certainly see some figures of the upcoming movie. I wonder how Hasbro handles the movie year. Are they going with two toy lines - collector focused TVC and one for kids?

What are your ideas? I am never getting tired of talking about Hasbro's super articulated Basic Figure lines!

Awesome list it looks like mine. I'm an Imperial army builder, but I also collect Jabba's guys and ewoks. So I can never get enough troopers. I would like to see more imperial officers. They can use the same body, but in different colors, easy peasy.
-Admiral Thrawn.
-Admiral Piett.
- General Veers
-Krennic
- Agent Kallus. (Realistic version)
- pretty much a remake of the Saga briefing room set.
  More troopers.
- Stormtroopers with Rogue One basic head.
- repack of TBS Scarif troopers
- assault tank troopers (carded).
- At-DP drivers (Rebels).
I know this isnt TVC-ish but I want battle packs. Trooper squads. And I forgot what it's called but there's a comic about some special forces stormtroopers, I'd like to see a battle pack of them.
I would like to see Ultimate figures. Figures with tons of accessories and diorama accessories everything.
-Palpatine with throne, cane, lightning hands lightsaber hilt and ignited.
- Vader Meditation Chamber. Remake of the 500th figure, but with a top that opens and closes. The figire would basically be the TVC Vader with 3 piece removable helmet. With interchangeable hands; fist, grip, open, choking.
- Break away C-3po with cargo net interchangable; head (dented) (gouged eye), arm (red) chest plate (restraining bolt) (blaster shot). Removable back plate. And I like vac plating, but the paint they used for 6" TBS is fantastic.
Of course I can't stress enough how much we need...
-Sim Aloo
-Yak Face
- new Bib Fortuna
- new Tessek.
- Admiral Piett.
- super duper articulated Captain Antilles, (wrist, ankle joints).

There is a rumor floating around that TVC cases may be reduced to 8 figures instead of the usual 12. We should know for sure at Toy Fair.

@JDeck: Thank you for your comment and the great add to the wish list! I hadn't have the chance to even list all the possible (and needed) Imperial Officers and Admirals. And I have to admit: I grew up with the Prequel Trilogy and don't know the characters of the OT as the characters of the second trilogy - ironic as it sounds, but I focused on the Prequels. I also need more time to add to the PT wish list, but Count Dooku came to my mind immediately!
And you made another very good point: Battle Packs! When I started collecting they included 5 figures mostly with great articulation for just 20 bucks! I miss those days and I got so many ideas for future sets like those...I think the chances for some of your listed Imperials are good to see the light of day since we got Tarkin and a generally strong dedication to the Empire during the time of TVC.

@The Spectre: Thank you for your reply! Yes, I also heard of this rumor on JediTempleArchives...what do you think about 8-figure-cases if the rumor was confirmed by Hasbro? Any chances or disadvantages?

So was I right with my conclusion that there was no similar discussion on the Return of The Vintage Collection on here before?

@JDeck - your list of imperials is exactly what we need! I think the community would love to see some much needed repacks, updates, and completely new officers!

and @Darth More - great idea with the return of battle packs with a good number of great figures! I miss those days as well.

I hope Hasbro has similar thoughts.

I was completely out of the collecting picture during the first TVC run and am only now realizing what I missed! I can't wait for it to return.

@ talonreap: I'm not an expert of Imperial Forces, but JD made a very good point. There's a high demand for updates of these...

Thanks for your comment - let's stay tuned for NY Toy Fair. But honestly I don't expect much. Hasbro should be aware that they have to pull the right triggers now to avoid a complete catastrophe of the line...the entire franchise seems to be in a cristical situation since the house of mouse took over...except for the premium segment of collecatbles such as Sideshow/HotToys or ANOVOS...

Just found this video:

I think this dude points out the current situation quite well! Ater TFA was a massive disappointment for me I didn't even watch TLJ...nor did I buy ANY merchandise since 2015...

And you'll find so many more of these videos...it's time for change Hasbro!! It's time for this insanity to end...

ONLY way I'd be suckered into this line is IF they  brought back the mail-away and offered figures  like retro casts of yakface, blue snaggletooth, vlix, etc.

I don't buy $10 figures ever. That's part of the reason I switched focus on the 6" the deals go further for the product on sale... Not to mention they have a standard of articulation and detail. Cuz honestly the joints are always (99.8% of the time) ugly and ruin the sculpts on 3 3/4 figures.

SW toys should be cheap since it is overblown billion dollar franchise... Why not focus on quantity over quality... And stick to it... The 6" value figures could easily be $3... 3 3/4  line for army builders, droids, aliens, etc.  Or how about making the package the diorama like the clone wars did?

I feel like a bunch of monkeys from 2001 are in charge.

I think we will find a few things we can pick up with the return of the vintage line. Will they do it exactly like we want. Probably not. Will they be able to please every collector or fan? Never.

Still, seeing those vintage packages on the shelves will sure be nice.

@(SID): Well, YakFace is confirmed to be released in The Vintage Collection in 2019. I think a mail-away will also be introduced by Hasbro on SDCC or in 2019...

I agree with most of your pointes here. Your comment opens a big topic here. I think Hasbro's Star Wars 6" line is a blessing for the franchise. I also like it because I'm a huge fan of NECA's/ToyBiz's 6" Lord of the Rings figures! It was a smart decision of Hasbro to introduce another scale to their assortment. That way they reach more people. I'm sure Hasbro went back to 5POA for their classic 3.75" line for 2 main reasons:

1) To cut costs due to higher production (material, rising salaries in China) - that's also why they also produce in Vietnam, now.

2) To also push more fans and collectors into their new 6" line - and it worked out well!

Making the original 96 as a sub-line of TVC?

Hey guys, just wanted to ask you for your opinion on this. I’m a collector of 3.75” since 2005. Got my first figure in 1999 (Darth Maul). I don’t collect 6” and am puzzled why TVC won’t receive the same dedication as TBS.
Anyway if I was a TBS collector, I’d rather be p...upset if I had been collecting Phase 1-3 since 2013. The Black Series did not only (and finally) get an all new packaging design, but also new numbering. It looks like every movie/source has its own unique color and lineup now. It’s just brilliant. To me it feels like a complete reset of the 6” line, but what do I know.

(You can skip this part: maybe Hasbro have been so hesitant with the third wave for the Archive Line, because they’re going to re-release almost ALL figures with updated details/accessories in the new box design anyway.)

The Archive Line is the first sub-line for The Black Series, the most recent one turns out to be the Gaming Greats.
I’m not an expert on the original Vintage Kenner Line, but I know that many kids of the 70/80s, fans and fellow collectors wish for the original 96 (92?) characters made in updated super-articulated form. So with the current #BackTVC and #fightforTVC initiative, my idea is that Hasbro could make these happen as a sub-line for The Vintage Collection. The numbering is a mess already even if they would “complete” the original 96 and add them to the (main) line over the coming years (decades?).
We’re not getting younger, so this would be a nice favor for us fans and Hasbro would to themselves a favor with millions of revenue. Money on the table. How does a Jawa with soft good sound like? Maybe a Jawa in vinyl cape for the RETRO Collection?
What are your thoughts? Thanks for reading this far and you’re welcome to comment down below.

My opinion on the re-issues:
I know this is a different topic. I’m glad that Hasbro re-issues old TVC figures with the same numbers from back in 2010. These re-issues are also sold separately/apart from the (main) VC line. Alternate cardbacks design would’ve been my top choice here, keeping the same VC number. I know this has been discussed before and that it is a sensitive topic for all carded collectors out there. But to me this is an example of 1) we can achieve something, Hasbro can still listen to us - even with the new brand team and 2) they do sell separate cases of photo-real updated VC figures already (as kind of a sub-line..?). From a certain point of view. Best regards from Germany! 🍀

Hasbro asked TVC fans if they wanted to star over with vc001 or a continuation of TVC, so they overwhelmingly decided on a continuation. That's fine, I get it. I would have been more likely to collect carded figures if they started over.  If Sim Aloo ends up being VC 1000, then that's the way it is.

If Hasbro does do a 3.75 sub line, they should steer far away from the Vintage platform. Having two separate vintage lines at the same time would be redundant and confusing. Not only that TVC has it's limitations. No comic packs, no army builders, everything has to fit in the Kenner theme. That's why I still believe Legacy collection was the best line.

Hasbro loves repacks, so my proposition is for them to take a few TVC figures that would be considered perfect, repack them into a separate line, then give them the Hyperreal treatment. Alternate heads,  hands, weapons, accessories and maybe a stand or something. For example, R1 Stormtrooper, pack him in with Jedha gear, alternate backpacks, pauldrons, grenades, different blasters, binoculars.  Different hands, fist, pointing, grabbing, etc. Do the same with Darth Vader, Han, Luke, Boba Fett, Mandolorian, whatever. Those I would buy up, even at $20+.

Boba Fett, alternate hands, jetpack with removable flame effects,  whipcord effect wrist attachment. Flamethrower wrist attachment. Solid helmet with movable rangefinder, with a stand. Honestly we need an all new Fett.
Mandolorian beskar armor, add baby Yoda and crib. Jetpack with flame effects. The whistling birds effects, flamethrower effects. Alternate hands.
Bespin Luke. Bloody face alternate head, alternate hands. Removable hand. The medical apparatus thing for his nub. Maybe some dagobah camp accessories, and a stand.
Rebel endor trooper, with alternate heads like the battlefront games. Sullustan, Zabrak, Ishi Tibb. Different weapons, hands. Then make a separate female version.
I could go all day, but you get the idea.

If you expect me to buy repacks then sweeten the deal. TVC jawa was a straight up ripoff. Instead of two Jawas, you only get one. R2d2 was a forcelink repack. You pay twice as much because of the packaging. Ripoff.  because that's how Kenner did it. I want more for my money. Accessories. That's what I want. I end up buying a bunch of Saga and TAC figures because they have cool accessories. I basically toss the figure and keep the accessories.

Thank you for commenting JD!! I think I remember that poll. Wasn’t it on instagram back in the day? Well, I’m fine with the continuation of the VC numbers. I also don’t really care as a loose collector. But I’m also aware of how serious this hobby can be to many others.
We all know Hasbro’s choice for the 1st Wave of TVC (2.0) back in 2018 was just...horrible! (except for the Rebel Soldier). And the aftermath everyone had foreseen did come true, indeed. Pegs were stuck with Wave 1 for a year.

I’m very impressed with the points you make here! And I agree 100%. The Vintage Collection is all about nostalgia and quality. The Legacy Collection was quality & liberty plus you got the Droid factory!

So since TVC is in memory of the original Kenner line, there are certain limitations which is unfortunate. So your choice that TLC is/was the best line ever by Hasbro for Star Wars is absolut legit in my opinion. Who does not miss the battle and comic packs?

So you don’t see a sub-line for TVC happening? It’s all left to the RETRO Collection then...

But if we want the original 96 in super-articulated form, it might be done with a new name, maybe: The Kenner Collection or The Principum Collection. I just want this to be done. It’s not a challenge for Hasbro. It seems they just don’t want to make it happen.

Are you familiar with situations that are unnecessarily difficult and frustrating? Can you well live with awkward situations and superficial customer relations? Do you love artificial limitations of products as much as we do? Welcome to Hasbro. You should start a career here.

I'm right there with you on frustration. This year would have been ideal to make a definitive Cloud City Lando, and Lobot. Instead it's the year of the repacks. Such a waste of time. Instead of having one new figure per wave it should be the opposite. One repack per wave at most. I don't know what they're smoking over there.

I echo JDeck's sentiments and add in the fact that they are now overcharging for anything with a vintage card or box. $150 for that slave one is nuts. 70 bucks for that ITT is nuts. The skiff should only be $25.
Title: Re: The Return of The Vintage Collection 2018 - Your ideas!
Post by: Darth More on June 17, 2020, 03:12:37 AM
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment gentlemen. This time I posted this on a Facebook group, too. And the clear echo is: NO interest in a "sub-line" or exclusive series of 96 figures for the Vintage Collection. It's funny how quick topics get emotional on facebook that's why I avoid that environment. I didn't keep track, but it seems that there are only 13 characters left to be updated. If we are this close to finally complete the original 96, I'm absolutey on the boat of waiting for them to join the main line. Didn't even know there was no numbering on the Kenner figures back in '77-'84.
So never mind. The RETRO Collection is a nice homage, The Vintage Collection does have it's limits in creativity. But Hasbro still could do SO MUCH more.

I still can't get over the fact that a repaint of a vehicle that was tagged $79.99 a decade ago is now $149.99 while an ALL-NEW 1/12 scale Snowspeeder WITH 6" figure got a MRSP of just $119.99!!!
I mean the Slave I was sold for as low as $30 if I remember correctly. I got it for 50,-€ at Toys "R" Us back in 2012. It was 129,99€ first, went down to 79,99€ then and was still there when I found it. That was luck.

I think many people are willing to pay for quality.  rather support Hasbro than scalpers on ebay. But I got the impression that Hasbro jumped on the train and "adjusted" their MRSPs knwoing that people are paying crazy money on the secondary market, too. They love (and need) profit so why not raising prices? If we only knew the margins. They are supposedly high.
On the other hand: If we all wait for the stuff to go on clearance, this brand will no longer be continued. And IF the stuff goes on clearance, all the scalpers are the first in the row to buy it all. Some even use AI to get all the stock. It's even worse on the sneaker market. It's horrible. These first world problems shouldn't exist.
Title: Re: The Return of The Vintage Collection 2018 - Your ideas!
Post by: Tamer on June 17, 2020, 06:45:19 AM
Yeah, I think Hasbro pays more attention to eBay prices than we realize and that helps them set their price points now. I am sure they could give you all the reasoning why it is so much, but yeah. I also find myself hilarious in the fact that I was gripping about vintage product cost here and then saw the EE Sale and bought the skiff and ITT I was griping about. Hasbro so has me.

I agree, Tamer. I think they do and when I talked to Eric of the brand team he told me that they're also aware of the popularity of videogame characters. People who played the games back then are now grown up and got the budget, so that's why we have the gaming greats line, which might come to The Vintage Collection this year as well!

As you all know, this year marks the 5th Anniversary of Rogue One already! Rumors say that all the main characters are going to get a photo-real update and be re-released in the new P4 packaging of The Black Series. I really like the new design and think it's the best time to start collecting The Black series NOW! I've also been selling my TBS6 figures from Rogue One before nobody wants 'em anymore.

Via Instagram I've been kind of a Probe Droid recently and this morning I came across these guys here:

The Hyperspace Vault (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7sQLzbAFWwpLjqgEd36C7g) is a father and son project and both of them have a really nice wish list for TVC releases this year: Here's their Top 10 Most wanted Rogue One Figures for The Vintage Collection:

I left my comment, a like and an instant sub below the video and I recommend to you to do the same.

Please, also make sure to check out JDeck's wishlist for TVC2 (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=10276.0)!

Well I don't think they have done a 5 year anniversary figure line before. Maybe at ten we might see something. Interesting ideas though.
