Title: Star Wars model kit news
Post by: JDeck on September 26, 2016, 01:26:23 PM
I found some pictures of the new Revell Rogue One kits.  They look alright, cant really tell from promo pictures. Looks like U-wing, (1/100), Star Destroyer (1/4000) and AT-ATC (1/100). They are the build and play kits. They have lights and sounds.
They say the foot  joints on the AT-ACT are posable, but whoever posed it for the promo shots didnt really know what they were doing.
Here's the link to the Revell website if you click on the product there's a video of the model. http://www.revell.com/new.html

The AT-ACT is similar to the AMT kit thats been around for 36 years. I think it does have more articulation. Meybe thats why they posed it in such a strange way to show the articulation. I was hoping for a retool of the 2010  1/72 AT-AT. Meybe one day. Im not big on the sound effects, the SD sounds like a toilet flushing. I'll still by them all and make some customs, they can't be all that expensive.

So Amazon has these kits in stock at $20.00, not bad. I did notice that on the AT-ACT the oblong shaped things that connect the legs to the transmission ( I don't know what its called), are molded to the transmission thing, so that may effect the positioning. I dont really know. Somethig is wrong, the postioning in the promo shots suck. Ill still get it, I have a really rad idea for it.

I just found out that Revell is re-releasing the AT-AT, Slave I, ARC-170, Republic cruiser, Jedi Starfighters Imperial Shuttle and Y-wing. However they seem to be expensive, meybe because they were just released, i dont know. I imagine it's a repaint like the Imperial Shuttle.  I'm stoked about the AT-AT, I've been wanting another one for a while, but the prices were too high. I would like it better if they fixed the raised panel line issue, thats a huge drawback for me. It makes weathering pretty difficult.
Im not sure where they get the scale from, they claim the shuttle is 1/106, but according to my math it's closer to 1/144. Same with the AT-AT,  they claim it's 1/53, but I had calculated it to be closer to 1/82. I guess it all depends on the resources.

Great news, off to share. Still wondering if I should pick up their AT-ACP kit. I am also still waiting on seeing how those Dragon versions (especially that big one) come off too.

The AT-ACT doesn't look bad for 20 bucks, I might get one someday. When the AT-ACT came out I was hoping they would release the AT-AT, so that's awesome. I think they're availible in the UK, I couldn't help ordering one online. I dont know if I payed too much or not, but it was certainly cheaper than they were before the re-release.
As for Dragon, man, those guys are irritating me. For over a year they've been sending out teasers, with no release date. They keep stringing you along saying we will announce the release dates soon. If Hasbro did that, an angry mob of Star Wars fans would riot in the streets. Until I actually see them for sale, I'm not giving my hopes up.

I probably ought to hit eBay up and get one too. I am seriously lacking in many of the model AT-ATs. I am thinking on a focus change for my collection so this might be where I head. I will never swear off Imperials, the Battle of Hoth, or especially AT-ATs!

I think they retail for about 65 USD, the 2010 release was about $50 at brick and mortar stores, so with inflation that's about right. I ordered one on ebay for $77 with free shipping from the UK, so that's fair, shipping on those is usually at least 15. Amazon prime has them at 99 USD. If you want one right now thats great, becase free shipping from the UK will probably take a month.  I don't know enough about them, but they should be releasing in the US, usually they are cheaper here.
The Republic Star Destroyer or what I would call a cruiser, is readily available. I've seen prices around 35 USD. So maybe that is the first of many to hit the states.

Thanks again for the pics mate and I have to say I'm not a huge Revell fan even when I was making military models. But saying that the AT-AT and AT-ACT I think would look awesome with a little detailing and nice paint apps.

Yeah I'm not Revell's biggest fan either, (they made some pretty good ww2 aircraft models) but they've cornered the market on AT-AT kits, and they make some other kits no one else does. Revell kits are plagued with problems, seam gaps, detail issues. Yeah wth some work you can make them pretty detailed. They're great for kitbashing. You can get detail kits for the AT-AT, but they are almost extinct, meybe with the resurgence, they will be more available.

Wow a model kit you need to buy a detail kit for. Hmm.....

Neat they make that though. I bet with all those parts together that would look great.

I wouldn't say you need the detail kit, almost every good kit has aftermarket  detail kits, even the Bandai Falcon. The Revell AT-AT has a lot going for it, it's proportionate and fully articulated and the details aren't bad. The pieces fit better than some kits, and you don't really need to putty it.  Overall I  dont have many complaints, I wouldn't kick it off the shelf. It has the potential to be a great kit if you add the detail parts, depending on your skill level or budget some conversion kits cost more than the model. The biggest thing the detail kits have are the foot bottoms, the Revell kit doesn't have, instead its hollow. So if you want to position it where the foot bottoms are visible yeah a conversion kit will be needed, unless you scratch build. Of course there's always 3d printing as well.

Im not sure how this got past my radar but Zvezda is making a 1/2700 Star Destroyer. Zvezda is pretty nice Russian model manufacturer. At over 20 inches its said to be the largest licenced star wars model kit in production.  You'd be right thinking its going to cost a pretty penny. I've seen listings  at a very high cost and shipping from Russia is outrageous. Release date is sometime this month.

I didn't know there were any Russian SW Manufactures of anything. Pretty awesome. Off to share.

Yeah I know, it flew completely past my radar Zvezda is the last manufacturer I would guess to get a SW license. Zvezda is known for their 1/100 tank kits. That's kind of funny because ILM used a ton of 1/100 kits to make the details on the Star Destroyer. So Zvezda is making a kit, of a model made of Zvezda kits. The circle is now complete. They've been making some nice 1/35 kits more recently. Im excited about this kit, but I'm not excited about the price, or the shipping cost, but we'll see. The great thing is, now we have 3 manufacturers making SW kits, not including Dragon. That is great for consumers. Throughout history we've only had either MPC, AMT or Revell making Sw kits, and they are all basically the same company. Oh yeah we had Fine Molds, but they lost their licencing. Airfix used MPC/AMT molds, now they are owned by Zvezda, that explains a lot.

Here's a link to Zvezda Russia website, it is not listed on Zvezda-USA. http://www.zvezda.org.ru/catalog/star-wars/zvezdnyj-razrushitel
5000 Rubles is about $77. USD.
I've been looking at the instructions download. WOW. This is going to be awesome. Very detailed. Even the little claw thing inside of the docking bay is made of multiple parts. 77 bucks is looking like a good price, but the damn S&H though.

Yeah Zvezda is known for the military kits which are actually very well done and their molds are very nice. I do like the destroyer but your right the price is a little over board to say the least.

I can justify the price, its a huge model, 60cm, with a good amount of detail, 105 parts. Thats a lot of plastic. The shipping is what gets me its almost as much as the kit. Even if you ship it via inflatable life raft it still costs more than half the kit's value. It must weigh a ton.  Honestly though I would have gotten it, had I not bought the Revell AT-AT, the other day.

Maybe we can get lucky and see a cheaper shipping price for amazon or something along those lines or perhaps BBTS will get it in.

There's a guy selling the Zvezda SD kits for $99. USD free shipping thats a good deal. However, its shipped without the box, with no description. I have to assume its sent in a shipper bag I would like the assurance it will arrive in good condition. There has to be a happy middle. There is a guy selling 118. USD with box, that's not terrible, I think I'll wait a while though.

Probably a good idea, I don't know how many much better SW Deals I could have gotten by waiting a month or two. I can remember back in the day being some impatient with the Target Lava Vader, I spent way more than I should have only to see it sell for way under the regular retail price every now and then today.

I had not expected to see Star Wars model kits from Zvezda. The quality of their 1/35 tank models is very good. The new 1/35 T-14 Armata looks also pretty good.
Here in Europe is most of the Zvezda stuff available on amazon. I hope the Star Destroyer is also available there.

Thanks for the information.

Very cool! And welcome. Did the kit come with the lighting or is it a separate kit? Did you have to drill the holes? Looks great. I still need to get this.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome.  Figured I would start off with a bang for a change rather than lurk in the shadows!  I got alot of projects in the works so I'l make sure to share them with you all.  I could share my build log here if anyone was interested!

Yes... I drilled every single hole myself.  No lighting kit.  I just used 7 self flickering warm white LEDs for the engines then 8 cool white LEDs for the fibers.  I inserted over 1,568 feet of fiber optic cables in this puppy just to get the lights to look the way they do.  Took some time, but came out looking awesome in the end!
