Title: Blown out building. Finished....for now. 11/7
Post by: CustomCreator on April 14, 2016, 07:20:25 PM
From small stairway to GIANT blown out building...lol

We going BIG! This was a wall I started last year and my window measurement was off. So I decided to rip it apart, and inspiration struck.

Two floors of blown out madness!! This is going to be fun!

Starting work in on floor two. Yes, the side windows are lower, much like an addition was added on at some point. Lots of cleaning up to do on the sills. Will be doing floor joists and wooden flooring upstairs.

I think this might turn into a blown out warehouse. I was thinking of making it a house, but it's too massive, and a warehouse would explain higher windows on the street side and lower on the sides. Plus, the walls can stay messy and I can leave exposed wall beams :)

Really?? LOL. I took me two damn hours to figure out how I wanted to do the floor. I guess if I could charge by the hour, I'd be a millionaire! :) Thanks for the always kind words!

Working on a plywood simulated first floor, and old school wood beam second. Everything is just tacked for the minute. I need more flooring to finish off first floor.

Thanks as always for the kind words!

So, I tried my hand at coffee staining (first picture), but it wasn't dark enough, so I went with my normal stain. Then I inserted like 50 pins to simulate nails, cut the points off through the bottom of the styro, and then painted each head. I then doused it with my homemade "ash" and may have went overboard. I mean, it's going to be a blown out building, but I feel I kinda ruined all my stain work...lol. Oh well, we'll see.

Thanks a lot Hemble! Means much coming from a master such as yourself!

I started on the second floor. I decided to make the whole floor part attachable by magnets to the beams. So basically the big floor beams, and wall beams will all be one piece, and the support beams will attach via magnet. At last that's the plan so far..lol. Some adjustments required. Took a couple Punisher shots as well.

Started throwing around some cracks tonight. Didn't want to overdo it, and some I need to fix up a bit, but I am liking it. Decided to rip out the middle window altogether so that I can have characters crawling/peeking in through the big hole. Also started the second floor.....floor...lol. I was going to go with 10 foot (inch) beams, but quickly decided that it would be too much wood to purchase as they come in 36 inch long pieces (meaning 3 boards per 36 inch piece). I then decided to start messing around with all sizes to simulate broken/missing flooring, and found this look much more appealing!

Yeah diorama's aren't a huge thing with a lot of people as they do take up space especially at this scale, people usually like to smaller figures on bases like 3-3/4".

Wow, it's been a while since I've updated.

Believe it or not, I was having the biggest trouble finding the wood I needed to complete the flooring. Every time I went, they were out, or all the pieces were broken.

Anyway, 28 boards, and 95(yes, 95) pins later, and we have a "completed" damaged 2nd floor.

Had to snip each one...lol

Post by: CustomCreator on September 27, 2016, 07:22:22 PM
Cheap update here, but finished the first color on the bottom level. Still haven't decided what to do up top. I wanted it to be like a business on the bottom floor (or small manufacturing facility) and a living space above. There isn't much room up top to "sell" that, but I am thinking I might just go with wallpaper and residential stuff....not sure yet. Anyway:

Bottom color is a custom mix. Sadly, I only painted the main wall one night, so I had to re-mix and match the color for the side wall. It was a tad brighter, but with the floor installed, it brings down the color to match the main wall, something I anticipated and am happy with. Still need to weather everything a bit, but now I can start adding my greeblies and bits.

It's lit with one of those little LED candles you find at the Dollar store. It flickers like real fire.
