Title: Forceflow's Customs
Post by: Forceflow on March 29, 2016, 07:33:41 PM
Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. Thought I'd break the ice with some work from the past few years. Didn't really start getting into customizing until the first GI Joe movie came out. And of course, when TFA was announced, I couldn't help it. Now I just need to get comfortable with photography and start getting everything documented...

First up is a re-imagined Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Finished before TFA, otherwise he would've been a Knight of Ren, I think.

First up welcome to Imperial Shipyards. Second, nice custom and I am taking it to our front pages and social channels.

Very nice! Sort of like a "what-if" version of Anakin if he didn't get burned at Mustafar. Welcome! :)

Mandalorian Legionnaire

This guy was a combination of "Huh, that's a neat helmet!" and "I wonder what the Mandos are up to c. The Force Awakens?" I imagined Mandalore as marginalized and left to lick its wounds after the fall of the Empire. Former Deathwatch members rose to power and established a fascist government. They don't like outsiders, but do like guns, armor, and aggressive expansion. The First Order looks to exploit this to undermine the Republic.

Who knows what they'll cook up in the official canon... he can always be a merc or bounty hunter.

Body is all G.I. Joe ROC and later, with Cobra BAT head and soft goods cape. I had a lot of fun with the limited color palette, especially inverting the helmet/visor color scheme. I also liked the challenge of matching his height to other Star Wars figs, since the Joes tend to have really long legs.

Thanks for looking!

Resistance Heavy Gunner

Continuing my TFA kick, here's another "What If" addition to the Resistance!

The Heavy Gunner provides fire support to Resistance squads and light vehicle divisions. Armed with a specially modified DLT-19 heavy repeating blaster rifle and power pack, the Gunner doesn't have to worry about reloading... just overheating. The irony of being cut down by old Imperial weaponry is not lost on First Order Stormtroopers, making the Gunner a prime target for snipers.

Gotta say it's been a long time since I've hung out in these forums, but stopping in to see what's been going on led me into your tread.  Very impressive figures!  I especially love the way you've used the art backgrounds to portray their look/create visual interest in each character.  I've always gotten a kick out of back stories, so the ones included for your Mandos caught my eye; very nice work!

Welcome back, and thanks for the kind words!

Here's a leftover from the photoshoot... you actually get a view of the legs here.

Vig Yazat – Bounty Hunter

Nobody told this guy not to wear white after Labor Day. And with that rifle and armor, who would?

Not much backstory, other than a generic "Star Wars" bad guy. Looks like he raided a military surplus store... I see pieces from the Clone Wars, Imperial Snowtrooper, and Mandalorian armor. Apparently, he's not picky about his gear. At least this way, he fits in with original AND sequel trilogies.

This was mostly an experiment to use up fodder with like colors. The grunge excuses my crappy paint job. Other than part combinations, I was inspired by the prototype/Ralph McQuarrie Boba Fett.

Trivia: the rifle is a cut down Dragunov sniper. It was a bit too spindly for my G. I. Joes, so I thought it worked well for Star Wars without much modification.

Vig totally works. I really like how the blended armors suggest piece-mealing together equipment based on military surplus. Great job.

Thanks for showing the bounty hunter some love, guys! Next up...

Hutt Enforcers

'Cuz I got mooks like Jabba!   0/

Well, I don't know if these guys work for Jabba specifically (it's a big galaxy), but they'd blend in pretty well with his band of cutthroats.

The Nikto Soldier has 14 points of articulation. Lots of fodder body parts (mostly Star Wars, with a little bit of Avatar). He started as a Rebel soldier, back in the days before Rogue One came out. I guess he's turned to a life of crime since then.

The Weequay Executioner was a lot of fun. A pretty simple head, hands, and feet swap with drybrush painting. I literally plopped Sora Bulq's head right on a Quarren soldier's body, and I was halfway there. Only 12 POA... no knees. But when all you gotta do is stand around and look tough, who needs 'em?

Thanks for looking!
