Title: The Brotherhood of Traveling Parts
Post by: Luke Sprywalker on May 25, 2010, 09:34:34 AM
I have an idea to share with everyone and we will see who likes it. I would assemble a box of fodder for parts to make 3 complete figures along with a few accessaries. Send it to the first person on the list then they select the parts they like and assemble one custom from those parts, paint and post it in this thread. Then that person would add parts to get back to 3 complete figures, you could put a few extras in if you want, and send it to the next person on the list. I think this could be fun and a way to get rid of fodder you don't need. What do you guys think? Anyone interested?

That's a very interesting idea that has been mentioned before. Parts, I have but time could be an issue.
Let's see who else chimes in on this.

Great! We have some takers. Also list where you reside as you go, like UK or US and the state. I may send it in order of replies or the closest to me. We will see how many are interested and go from there.

Also, there is a lot of various lines out there for fodder. I think we should all agree on the style/type of parts we want. Cartoon or Realistic would be the first thing to decide. If I put well articulated/ all newer stuff in I want the next person to do the same. I will require everyone to post a pic of what they received, wip shot, then finished custom. You can post the pic when you get the box or when you finish the custom, up to you. I will be thinking about other ideas/final rules and please give ideas before we start.

Koty, you could stay in and send your custom with the parts box to the next person to photograph. If we complete the circle it would come back to you. if we get enough interest to make a circle.

Looks like everyone likes the CW fodder.

51 views and no one else interested? Come on guys we need a few more in here.

I was going to give this a week to see who signs up. Looks like it will be CW fodder and I have assembled a few things. I have a few parts for Jay so I can start by sending him the parts box with those as well.

I will go with whatever is the consensus.  I typically stick with realistic, but would be happy to pick up a few CW figs to boil and pop!

Post by: Luke Sprywalker on June 01, 2010, 08:21:23 AM
OK guys, this has started as I sent Jay the parts this morning and he will have it next week. Here is the order...

From me to Wraithnine
Wraithnine back to me as we have a side deal, to save him some shipping cost.
I'll assemble new fodder and send it to Mandaloriansrule1
Kreeper2
Commandercharlie
Phatty

If no one else signs up it will come back to me and stop or change styles. I hope to get a few more people in on this so feel free to sign up after we start. Remember take a pic of the fodder you receive, a pic of your cutom bashed together, and a final photo of the completed custom. I also ask that once you decide what parts you are using go ahead and mail the parts to the net guy to keep this thing moving. Don't sit on it for a week, 2-3 days should be plenty of time to get it back out. You are to use the parts you are sent and can add up to 4 pieces from your own fodder. The idea is to see how creative you can be with minimal choices. I'll be back soon with a photo to show what you are expected to have in the bag. Any questions or complaints or ideas are welcome. Lets make this fun for everyone!

That is what I want to do as well. I may even add a no clone trooper rule in there. This round is going to be a trooper run I predict. No need for 2 rounds of the same thing.

thats where i will possibly run into a problem  as most of my figures/fodder are CW now (due to legacy being killed off and me abandoning realistic clones)
Title: Re: The Brotherhood of Traveling Parts

THIS IS NOT WHAT I SENT JAY.  JUST AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT YOU SHOULD/COULD SEND.

I wanted to give an idea of the amount of fodder you should send/receive. It doesn't have to be clones but deos have to be CW stlye fodder, could be all droid parts, or Jedi, whatever is in this line.

Also I would like for everyone to sign the bag in permanent marker. You will see what I mean when you get it.

I'd definitely be in for the Legacy loop.  I'm not terribly much into the CW style, buuuuuuut...

What the heck - go on and put me into the rotation for the CW loop, as well.  I'll come up with something.  (I think I'll end up having to buy a fig for this, but it could be worth it, fun-wise.)

I'm Louisiana, USA

So I end up sending it back to Sprywalker, then?  That could be ... most convenient.  Oh, yes...most convenient indeed!

if kreeper dosent mind you could swithch with him and we do legacy as i wanted legacy aswell.

YES! I hoped you would jump in on this Doc. You are at the end of the list so send your address to the person before you. I am going to call it now...Legacy fodder for round 2.  We will discuss that more when this round is over, but still feel free to keep signing on for this guys.

Charlie, when it comes to the accessaries I say anything goes. Though all body parts need to be CW style. This will give us more diverse creations imo. I thought about throwing in a Joe helmet but put it back. I also wish I had included a traveling figure for everyone to take a pic with while they had it.

right i am posting the package out on friday afternoon (thats a definate )

in the meantime i took the rex body and AT-TE or Turbo Tank gunner (i cant remember which) head

i swapped out the chest for a nubbed head one from an AT-TE clone and added a pair of AT-TE clone arms i had spare then all i did was paint the fin, kama trim and knee pads  GW "codex grey" and then i applied an inkwash ,a simple but effective custom took about 15 mins

CLONE AT-TE/JUGGERNAUT COMMANDER

These are the parts I am using and first I had to mend the broken torso. I started with my own set of legs and cut them at the mid section.

Then I dremeled a slot for the screw head to fit in.

The screw fits perfectly...

Now drill a hole in the torso that is smaller than the screw and twist the torso onto it.

so here is my WIP pic. All he needs now is a bit of paint.

Thanks guys, this was a lot of fun! I really like the generic head for a Jedi and the back pack came out pretty cool. Now I have a bit of news. I am going to include 2 traveling figures in the parts that I would like for everyone to take pictures of with their collection, serious or funny, just have fun with them and send them on to the next person. Here are a few examples...

Guys, I have a bit of news. There is a new member in this round of the Brootherhood, Jaxon Sprywalker. He wanted to get in on the fun and has pieced this together.

He will be choosing the colors and I will paint the Jedi for him.

Jaxon picked well!  I can see this as an arrogant Jedi knight who may or may not fall to the Dark Side, or perhaps fall in battle due to ego.

Jaxon is glad everyone is liking his Jedi. He really wants to put some clone legs on this torso but I want him to do his first custom not me, and have to mod a torso that could fail when he plays with it. He understands and is still happy in the end and that is the whole idea. We only got a small bit of painting done today so we hope to finish him up tomorrow. Jaxon would like to thank Jay for the parts we got from him and I would like to thank Steve as I used one of the helmets he gave Jay. This has been a great spirit of giving and a lot of fun so far! Feel free to sign up now or later as we go down the list.

Man that was fast shipping time to you Koty. Things are moving along nicely for the Brotherhood. So I snapped the pics of Jaxon's custon the second the sealer was dry. Here he is and Jaxon has named him Ieishe Keinn.

I give you my padawan Jaxon Sprywalkers first custom, with paint help from me.

I should have required everyone to provide the receipt prooving that they mailed it. I also should have asked everyone to include insurance as I not only sent fodder but 2 of my custom figures.

Well I am sad to say it looks like the dark side has taken over what could have been a really fun community building project. Koty, Mandoloriansrule1, has supposedly mailed the parts, trade items to me and trade items to other members that misteriously just never showed up. Yea right. Looks like I am out a good bit of fodder, trade items plus 2 custom figures, one of them being HB-94, the Hangarbay Droid I made to look like Jules little symbol/character he used to mark his art with. It is a sad day for me...

It is nice to know that things have been shipped. I would probably suggest that from here on out that when it is time to ship that tracking numbers are used just to keep things honest so when folks say things have shipped a tracking number will actually prove it.

Charlie, don't worry once this first and only round is over the brotherhood will be over. This has been way harder than it should have been. 2 people so far out of this small group didn't follow directions and allow others to wait and wait...by the way where is the tracking number? When this thing first went sour we said everyone had to post the tracking number when they shipped it as proof.

AWESOME! I love the pic with Onaconda Farr and the HB-94 droid! Your clone is a great mix of parts and I really like the droid leg. Looks like he has seen many battles over the years. Also like the way you used the Anakin skirt and glued the holster to his other leg. Great looking custom my friend and job well done!

Just glad to hear you have the parts Pat. Remember we would like to see a pic of the parts you have to choose from, one wip shot, a shot of the finished custom and a shot of my 2 figures hanging out somewhere in your collection, desk, yard or whatever you come up with. Also wanted to mention that new banner is Bangin!

Well, I already screwed this up, but that was because I thought our camera was at my wife's school where she said she left it.  I'll instead give it a step by step treatment and history.

I was able to sit down and finally get into the pieces I wanted to use from this set.  I donated Commander Cody and Plo Koon figures to the lot.  I boiled and popped the Plo Koon because I wanted his forearms.  I took another Commander Cody body that was in the package already, and looked as though it had been attempted to use several times.  I removed the forearms to Cody and added in Plo-Koon's forearms, trimming the elbow armor out so that the arm could straighten properly.  Next I chose some shoulder armor caps I had lying around to beef out the shoulders.  I kept the Plo Koon hands and head to use as well.  I also chose what looked like some kind of armor that went with the clones from the Mission to Abbregaddo battle pack, with the gun holster on the front of it.  I started with a medium grey paint as a base color to give it a uniform color, blending out the lines from Cody's yellow stripes.  From there, I chose a French Blue to add as armor accents.

Next, I used a clear orange paint to wash over Plo Koon's skin, so that it wasn't a direct swap out, giving him a skin tone of his own.  I further changed his breathing and goggle apparatus from bronze to silver.  I also added some random pouches to his leg gear to hold medical supplies.

Finally, I washed over the figure with a flat black to give him that weathered look, rounding out the figure.  I have named him Captain Silas Elgin, Kel-Dorian male.  No Jedi, nothing special. Just a desire to serve his Galaxy as a combatant and field medic in the war against the Separatists.  He donned a set of Clone armor, along with some upgrades, and joined his brothers-in-arms, charging head first into any battle presented to him.

I'd really like to take this time to thank Luke Sprywalker for putting this very fun, very inventive contest together for us all.  While we had some bumps along the road, the Brotherhood has traveled its circuit, and is now destined to return to its master.  I'd sure like to do something like this again, but perhaps be a little more discerning in who is included in the process, so as to avoid the trouble we had in the past.  Thank you Luke, thank you very much.

Title: Re: The Brotherhood of Traveling Parts
Post by: Luke Sprywalker on October 18, 2010, 08:59:30 AM
Hey no problem Mungo. Kip's head came out of a generic figure fodder bag so I have no idea, sorry. Jaxon is my son and his custom Ishy Kieen's head is Captain Argyous. SP? From the Clone Wars line.

Bump bum bum bup bump bum buuuuuuuuummmmmm! That is the sound of trumpets blaring! I am pleased to announce that the brotherhood of traveling parts has come full circle. I hope you guys had fun with this little experiment in customizing camaraderie. For me it is interesting to see what parts people choose and how everyone is different in there techniques and attributes. I had great fun in this as did the travelers themselves Onaconda Farr and HB-94. Boy have those two had some stories to tell. It seems Onaconda had some hand surgery while he was gone so I would like to thank the surgeon that mended his hands as they are now articulated. I would also like to thank Phatty and Kreeper2 as they put together a figure for me. Very kind gesture guys and I really like what you have assembled. The figure has a black base coat, which I love, and some orange markings were started. Pat felt he did not have the time to finish painting the figure and came up with a great wrap up to our story. I get to paint the figure these 2 guys started. I love it! Here is the figure...

Now I have some ideas as to where to go with this but if anyone wants to throw out color schemes, accessories, helmet yes or no, things like that would be great. I want to keep the figure as is because I love what they came up with. I was thinking about sculpting a second layer of armor over his thighs just to add some bulk and make him even tougher. It would be seen as a second layer over the first, hope you know what I mean. So what does everyone think?

WOW this figure looks absolutly amazing!!! love the color scheme and reds on him, wouldnt change that... a second layer, hmm, dont know yet, have to do more thinking, but sounds cool.

I think I like him the way he is. Which is totally awesome! I would just have an extra set of hands that match and that can hold a weapon. He kind of looks like a more evil version of Dilbon Vont from " Memoirs of a War Profitier" by Darth Depressis.

He does look pretty cool. Some cardstock could be the ticket for some thin armor plates for his thigh area. Dont want to bulk him up too much.

L.E. this was just a great idea and it was interesting to see the stops these have all made. I know there were a few "bumps" in the road during the travels of these guys, but I am glad it turned out well.

I do like the looks of that figure and wonder if a SW helmet is in order with some of those same colors, at-at driver modified might look cool.

Ok guys, I read over everyones comments and have...added a helmet, 2 blasters and a custom riffle. As for the colors no one really commented on a direction for that so I went with earth tones. Without further delay here he is...

An ominous figure emerged from the woods and was heading straight for me...

Daggone sweet helmet L.E.!

The blood on the gauntlets is pretty daggone sweet too. Your colors make sense too. Kind of hard for an assasin to do his or her job with bright armor.

Back to the front page with you.

L.E., I like your colors SO much better than those I started with, they do make more sense and you blended them so well.  That rifle looks so serious, definitely a trusted ally in the field.  The helmet is ominous for sure.  I can't place it however, I think it's Luke's from Shadows of the Empire, yes?

Thanks for the comments guys I had a lot of fun putting the finishing touches on this guy. I spent around 3 hours painting him and about 45 minutes on the gun and working soft goods shoulder strap. The helmet is indeed the SE Luke helmet but it was a cast I have had for a while waiting for the fight body. I put it on and the look was perfect! I was waiting for someone to bring up the Predator look to the helmet as I thought the same thing. At any rate I am glad everyone is liking how I finished this one up as it represents the creative efforts of 3 forum members, Phatty, Kreeper2 and me. Not sure where this will go from here. Things were much different for me when I started this and for now we will take a break and who knows this could happen again one day.

G West, yes it is. I put a small ring through each end of the riffle then added a soft goods strap by looping it through the rings. It is a string type material I sent around with the traveling parts so everyone could get some.
