Wow, great work. I too am a big fan of the RC Novels and am still a little miffed that Traviss hasn't finished them. Anyhew, love the customs and thank you for sharing them with us. Your first post is on the front page! And welcome to ISY.

Just catching up with your custom work, very nice and I like your character choices. Love seeing Banksy's art in the background of all your photos. Did you just print them off the internet to use as a backdrop?
Title: Re: New member, custom pieces old and new
Post by: benjani_1976 on August 07, 2012, 08:35:40 AM
My avatar is a net download.... For the figures I got a genuine Banksy canvas print from a local art dealer as a fathers day gift i use.

I too really hope Traviss continues the RC series, the way it's tailed off leaves Darman,Niner and clan Skirata's future a complete mystery. it's bugging me somewhat.

i got several mando's off the bay real cheap,Rav Bralor,Isabet Reau x2 and a B'arin Apma all for under £10 GBP which roughly equates to $4 each!!!
So they will be a basis for parja Bralor - Walon Vau (revised) - Twi'lek mando laseema and Jango fett's long lost believed dead but stir crazy arla fett

Here's my take on a Tattooine dune sea nomad ben Kenobi.....still undergoing improvements

I believe there is at least one story of Ben's exile on Tatooine.  Look him up on wookipedia.com.  That should help you out.

New to the site, quite recent to making my first custom (darth plageis the wise),i did it about 10 months ago.....
Thanks optimus,i believe it's last of the jedi according to both wookiepedia and wiki.

More cheap mando's from off of the bay arrived today and already undergone some basic head swaps.
Darth Plageis the wise mark II started, luckily managed to separate both donor torso's without any lug damage.......

i just had another great find on the bay,a crackin' bargain

ALL figures from BOTH elite republic sets.........omega squad, niner, corr, darman and atin. 6 mando's reau, bralor, gilamar, apma, priest and ward. 2 mando clones and 2 black arc troopers.

14 loose figures for £31..........that's both sets for under $50!!!!  i think clan Skirata will be ready to complete, just need the time to do the rest.

Title: Vergere - rogue Jedi
Post by: benjani_1976 on August 22, 2012, 12:36:12 PM
My first attempt at this complex figure.........and retains full articulation and stands freely without any assistance.

body was easy to choose,wioslea........lower tunic from a saga Saesee Tjin, head used was an old stormy that had no eyebrows or nose, excessively worn but fit the neck nub of wioslea perfectly.

does anybody recognise the grey mask part i used,i picked it up in a bundle of bits and not seen another since.

I used the hair from Quinlan vos, separates without too much effort and the head was isabet reau which was sanded here and there to alter the shape from standard, back of the head had to be cut away a bit at a time to accommodate the hairpiece.

did the same for master sifo dyas, face of agen kolar sanded down and hair from a Qui gon jinn ep1

right out of the sith lords handbook , Man, these guys look great!

hey Clint,how's tricks?

depending on my finances (bloody ebay) and when you're casting again i could do with a couple of arc trooper pauldrons (same ones commander blitz/colt wear),hollow mando helmets x ???? and 2 more hollow legacy snowtrooper helmets.

i noticed you now list RC scorch backpacks in 3 pieces.........can you cast just the main pack on it's own without the 2 side pieces? could do with a few of those whenever you're ready.

yo assasin..........waiting on some large orders from tunghori, viperskingdom, zabooma etc and i'll have some more sith on the way..........experimenting with combining GI and SW sith.

glad my customs are going down well with ISY,been experimenting a lot lately

Just had 3 more republic commando's arrive today and decided to pull a scorch figure i was selling off the bay, waiting on 2 more RC backpacks then i'll be recreating Yayax Squad.

Apart from Ny Vollen i haven't made many new figures, just going over and improving existing ones like darth plageuis,Kal Skirata.

I Have almost made older versions of Captain Rex and Ahsoka Tano (post-order 66) seeing as there's no mention of their deaths,i'm guessing they deserted and hid out in the outer rim.

been busy for a while but here's a bundle of new figures and WIP..........been buying up cheap Joe figures to bish bash bosh about for rectifying some dreadful articulation issues.

starting off with the sith custom Darth Revan with rotaing joints everywhere.

They're both tweaked, the one on the right looks standard but i made up the lower robes because it was in a right mess when i got hold of him, looked like a kid or an angry ex wife hacked the lower robe away with their teeth and tore an inch off all around exposing him up to his knees........carefully trimmed with a blade and replaced with tough thick black material and a coloured piece of rigid robe from a donor which matches the upper robes even better than standard.

Just a little update....... plenty of photo's to go up,been working on a diorama this week and it's taken up much spare time.

Will re-take the wip and sith photo's after the weekend,I'll try the digital camera instead of the iphone.
All customs are on hold the weekend, the missus has booked in an engineer for monday to rip out and re-fit new loft insulation so the whole lot (hoth shelf included) has to come down and make room for them to work aaagh.

Got Rako Hardeen looking pretty good, body sculpting nearly done. Lord Maleval,Darth Wyyrlok III,Darth Tenebrous,Mird(Walon Vau's pet strill),blue ghostrider, should all be posted during the week

I got fed up clearing out the loft space of the collection, had another go at rako........wasn't happy with the head so i made a siligum mold of pre vizsla's head, nubbed it using a CW mando torso i butchered.
Instead of epoxy resin i used milliput epoxy putty, takes longer to cure but it's more workable when near cured, just when it was firm enough to pop out the mold i took a scalpel to his hair and gave him a trim,i reckon it looks spot on.

Just gotta sand the body a touch more, made the sniper rifle and ready tomorrow for painting.....how's your's coming along??

Just finished Rako.........body was a CW mando, shaved off armour and holsters in certain places and built up the bodywarmer and knee parts with milliput, the Mcquarrie helmet was just too small so had to be cast in 2 pieces and extended to fit over the modified Vizsla head. Head was cast from milliput so it could be trimmed before fully curing. Sniper rifle boshed from bits of missiles, blasters and a bit of hardwood for the angled undersection.

I recently changed the brand of paints I use. I think the change has paid off, finishes are coming out a lot better.
For base coats I used to use citadel but a few weeks ago I came across acrylics by Tamiya in a local hobbycraft store. Got a strange chemical odour about them,I imagine it's some kind of bonding agent yet still water washable and covers nice and even.
It bonds to the figures much better and dries quicker than most acrylic....the range of colours from tamiya is double what citadel offer and about 3/4 the price.
I still use citadel dyes and washes, then drybrush highlights with a regular acrylic. satin acrylic laquer to finish them off and seal the paint.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Tamiya but they're primarily a 1:12 RC vehicle specialist from Japan,I've ignored their paints for so long as I've always associated them with clear polycarbonate body shells and polycarbonate based paint. Wasn't until the store put their pots on special offer I spotted they make some cracking Acrylic.

Quick update.

Just ran out of sculpting putty so I gotta wait for a delivery before I get to post general Pong Krell.
3 x mandalore the indomitable for just £10 arrived today that makes 4 I got now. One was already complete(minus a cape) and a spare spear completed another that leaves 2 to modify.

Seeing as I can't afford to weigh out £30 ($50) for marek in beskar I'm using one to help make him,my jedi marek isn't selling despite being listed cheap so he's gonna help along with a $3 jaster mereel I should be able to make him for under $15......bargain!!

The other will become mandalore the ultimate

galen marek mandalorian,bespin outfit

cannot justify spending £30 ($50) on a figure i can make better for less

marek's knee plates are the same as on montross/mandalore.......wrappings covered with putty to make into boots.
mandalore figure cost me £3.50 each for 3......another will become mandalore the ultimate eventually
thigh plates will be created using the dremel to form outline and milliput to raise plates .4mm above undergarment.
upper torso will be from a $3.99 jaster mereel.....wstoys got loads so i've grabbed 4 to tweak.(armour piece pictured used for starkiller pilot oufit)

As will the nautolan......shame that a lot of krayt's sith don't have names to put to faces.
starkiller on page 11 coming along better than i thought, half expected the t shirt and folded lapel to need several attempts.

thanks mando/DO/ART/Spry..........mostly just WIP but all going to plan,a few probs with Krells arm joints but i just found some old RC 1/12 car spares that'll fix him.

Earlier today I tried out some brass ball joints on a Darth Optimus inspired MK Raiden and they worked a dream,I may need to post it in hints and tips.
here's my raiden wip....taken 3hrs so far

parts:-
legs and lower torso - modern storm shadow I believe (ROC???)
upper body - saga legends obi wan kenobi
head - VC Qui Gon Jinn
4mm dia Tamiya/Koyosho brass ball joint secured with epoxy putty (milliput)
conical hat formed from milliput, small sheet of thin polythene sheet placed inside cone mold, putty pressed and moulded to shape, sheet removed once putty cured solid.

Glad you like wraith.......... I got my kids at mine the weekend and most of their half-term week off so I'll be quite busy occupying them but I should have some finished pics in a week.

also for anybody interested I got a new topic on ball jointing figures which makes linking GiJoelower and SW upper torso's easier than using screws, and retains articulation.
Did this with Raiden and well impressed at how smooth and secure his joint is.

3 more sith for my collection, been knocking up a few KOTOR era figures.

Kreia/Darth Traya
Darth Sion
Darth Nihilus

Nihilus has been made using no parts from an original Nihilus, head is as Visas describes it being 'just a man' but heavily modded. Cut the face from a mean looking GiJoe figure (retaliation zartan) head, comes with 3 or 4 different heads.....another one became Sion's head.
Hair belonged to the Jedi  Roth del masona, cut to fit the face of zartan.
The mask started off life as a hockey mask from an early learning centre figure. (Looked like a figure out of the RS game manhunt with mask, chains, baggy denims and tattoo's,not quite what I'd expect ELC to endorse.
Mask was modded via dremel, putty, magnifying lamp, some black cloth and the wire stripped from a wire tie, used the wire to shape the hood and fixed it down the centre of the mask with some 'are you nuts' Loctite superglue gel, takes no prisoners that stuff.

So basically Nihilus has a removable mask and hood which is secured with a band around the back of the head.

Traya's head started off as angelique from POTC modded to look aged and hair styled from milliput. Upper body from Wioslea, right arm from a kamino escape jango, left forearm removed (as per Sion's attack at peragus) legs from an old damaged shadow trooper and robes from a shakk ti dyed black. Pinned together via a steel 6mm balljoint

Sion is an unknown GiJoe upper, snake eyes lower with a belt from Jedi training qui gon jinn I had laying about from making Darth Wyyrlok III? Head as previously mentioned was from zartan, eye gouged out and replaced with a blob of putty then just painted up to look decayed and held together by the dark side.

Would've had more KOTOR mandalore's to post but parts haven't turned up so I opted to finish the sith triumvirate.

Thanks,I based my vizsla on his newer armour........got a spare cw pre viz sat around doing nothing so i might do another soon. That quarrel you did looks mean, what armour did you use?

Traya's head was a bit of a nightmare.........there aren't many elderly woman action figures about, had to dremel away the head to pronounce the chin and cheekbones, added wrinkles etc. hair piece gave me a right headache, like trying to beat her in the game........jeez what a mare,

And what used to be challenging is definitely becoming a bit easier every time. Finding myself going back over older figures and adding tweaks here n there.

More Old Republic pics to follow, wanna do a bit more this weekend on jabbas throne room & pit.........right hand steps, texture the walls, paint the pit,fit the pit door

Yeah, I'd like to eventually make a realistic Pre in his new armor, but I guess the one I have will have to do for now. And I think it'd be cool to see a new Pre from you! Would you make him in his second armor design, or the original? Either way, cool! Yeah, I had a heck of a time finding a head for my Traya, but yours looks nice. The hair you made turned out great, it looks just like her! And in the game, yeah she is frustrating. Make sure you have the Destroy Droid and Force Storm powers, and Master Heal never hurt. Adhesive grenades are handy too, so are the Verpine (?) energy shields. All those things should make her go down after a while.

Haven't decided, likely to be another in MK2 armour........got a mk1 viz in the packaging and a spare missing the cape (which he doesn't have in his new beskar)
Haven't seen your Traya yet,got a pic? Haven't been on KOTOR 2 a while, started the first one again........thanks for the tips, got all those requirements you suggested, gonna smoke her good n proper.

Thanks, they are looking the part bit by bit.
Marek isn't far off now........just the hip pouch to fit and then some weathering. Always wanted the Bespin marek but hasbro's version is
1. Too plain Jane and
2. Too expensive to customise.

I used a $3.99 Jaster mereel
A €4.50 mandalore's lower legs
A cheap marek Jedi I got incomplete off eBay.
A bundle of cheap loose robes.. Bail Organa's - EU imperial knight Luke robe - SL hoth Han Solo lower jacket trim. (All cheap figures) some epoxy putty to rejoin upper and lower torso's with Han's midsection.

Plus all the leftovers from the donor figures have made or contributed to 3 or 4 other figures so I estimate under $15 for a better replica of a $50 figure.
Gotta be happy with that ;D

You had me at "Starkiller"!  I love seeing new customs of this character: one of the most interesting/coolest-looking characters in the SW universe.

Your version is much leaner and more trim than the TRU 5-pk version; nice work on the piecing of the cloaks/plastic "soft goods".

I cut the hands off of a Jaster Mereel and drilled a tiny hole so that I could replace them with the SA wrists/hands of a Pre Viszla...allows full range of motion and the ability for Starkiller to hold his saber using the reverse grip.  Looks much more realistic; might want to try that if you're interested.

All in all, excellent work!

I like your thinking there merc ;D got a spare incomplete vizsla I'm in the middle of boiling and stripping down.

I was reading a review on the exclusive figure just yesterday, not a good review IMO.........for an exclusive figure of a popular character I'd expect some realistic weathering and most importantly,be able to hold a lights abet without using an elastic band.

Just started weathering the robes, fitted the final pieces of the pouches and belts........once the epoxy has cured, final stages of paint ;D

And even with all the robes and add-ons he still retains all articulation..........I'll need a new display cabinet just for this guy.
Might change the hands over to a CW jointed pair yet....still unsure, but I do prefer him with gloved hands though to bare flesh, what you guys think?

You'll know this  Mr Mando, clone wars figures with bare flesh ball jointed wrists as found on troopers and mando's.........any been made??

I cant wait to see some more clan Skirata stuff from you. :) :) Your Starkiller looks way better than Habros. I think the gloved hands look more professional and on the one they made he has a small head and a big chest. Also on there he has a short neck post. He looks so fat the way they made him. In reality Starkiller is a skinny long necked AWESOME sauce guy. The way they portrayed him here makes him look stupid. Bravo on cleaning up hasbros crap. And he did not cost you 50 BUCKS!

Thanks Drew, ori'vor'e Spry ner vod........my favourite bit of this figure is the T visor effect and scope.

Gave the visor a bright green, almost neon basecoat then a top coat of transparent acrylic green glass paint.....if you put enough on it gathers at the sides giving a darker edge and a lighter centre all around.
Done it on another I'm due to post in orange.......revised Cuy'val Dar Wad'e Tay'haai custom

A few figures finished up the last couple of days.

Phase 2 cw13 Rex with head/helmet mod....phase 1 wrists. (Knees next)
Phase 2 fox and gree, started off as basic clones, denal I think.
Phase 1 Bly,started life as a spare Captain Rex.

Still got half a dozen basic clones from a bundle, maybe wolffe next up.

HK47 was an HK50 2 days ago........Query: what do you think meat bags?

Krell nearing completion, took more effort than first thought..........sanding and a bit of paint to go.

I just want to take a moment and say Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. And, if you will allow me to share (via my faith and worldview) this is one of the most special times of the year, at least to me. I am truly thankful to God above for His grace, mercy and salvation. He has richly blessed my life. I have the blessing of an amazing wife, beautiful children, and a loving family.  I am also thankful that I live in this great nation. I hope you have a chance to take a moment today and look at your life and reflect on how fortunate you are. I also want to make a statement to the ISYs in general that even though we don't all know each other personally and face-to-face, I am thankful that in our hobby we have a common place to share our creations with one another. Happy Thanksgiving enjoy some turkey!!!

Hey ner vod.......WWII boba fett looking sweeter than a bag of Uj'alayi cake  ;D

I'm pretty happy with how scout turned out, decided to use a head that was more animated than realistic to get her looking like a teenager.
Smoother lines and larger than usual eyes......wanted her to look similar to Etain tur Mukan but young looking.
Head was a green martian girl, used the body of a comic pack Leia Jedi for scale.......Jusik placed there for size comparison.

More pics soon, picked up some cool figs and fodder recently.
Bralor reference pic......helmet turned out great.
Kina ha reference pic

Thanks spry, taken a bit of a break from the dio.......time and money being spent getting kids stuff ready, stoking up the chest freezer etc but after this weekend I'm gonna crack on and get it going again.

Cool! I look forward to seeing the finished piece!
Worked out pretty darn good and instead of another Malak costing the earth (£30 and up) it cost me a tenner.
Got 3 of him now and 3 of Revan and all 6 stand me in at £40.
Nice additions to the Mando camp dio!  I'm liking the Kaminoan!
I almost forgot about doing Kina ha and scout until reading up a CW page on wookiepedia looking for a pic of Ventress.
Kina Ha started off as Taun WeW
Upper body sculpted from Kaminoan outfit into Jedi body armour.
Helmet is a modified Anakin battle of naboo fighter pilot. Wedge shape removed at the back and closed up shrinking it's diameter down to fit Her head.
Waistcoat from CW Aurra Sing.
Jedi belt from Aayla Secura, cloth from an Ashoka Tano I believe.
Comic pack Leia was the basis for Scout.......I think I've posted that previously.

Anyhow......I'll stop waffling away,Here's Darth Malak refurbished.

I got a complete Malak with hilt and saber, and a revan complete both picked up cheap in among other figures.
Another Malak needs sabers and the one I just repaired, got another revan with a replicated cloak......need to make another hooded cloak for the 3rd.

What's wrong with your Malak? Maybe it can be repaired and still look original?

That he is but it's only the cape that would worry me.
The waist and neck can be resolved with either a couple of self-tapper screws or an easier fix is my ball joint tutorial.
Is the cape simply torn but complete or is there any portion ripped off and missing?

Thanks guys, took some working out but he's a nice addition to the collection.

Haven't done much lately but here's some WIP shots.
In yellow it's a mandalorian neo crusader called Bralor. Fully articulated and includes removable helmet and Ye Olde jetpack.
In white I've started doing an Imperial Shocktrooper. Specialist in heavy weapons tactics.
Then a more up to date version of grand admiral Thrawn.
And in anticipation of the old cast possibly returning for episode VII I am about halfway through altering a ROTJ Luke into a more robust and aged Jedi Master with a hint of old Ben Kenobi about him.

Added some middle age spread to Luke around the midriff, arms and legs...........and a greying to the hair and a sculpted beard.

Oh and a couple of female pilots from bits and bobs knocking about. The mon calamari helmet was the very first custom part I made. Did it by hand before getting into casting. Piece of thin film over an Ibitsam head, moulded the putty and carved by hand with a blade.......still looks cool and fits like a glove.

Nice, I remember Bralor, it certainly resembles him, nice work so far! I like the Thrawn too, gotta love Chiss! The Imp is looking sick too, and I like the Luke, I'm actually working on an aged Han Solo at the moment, my imagination is  also running wild with the thought of new characters and returning characters for VII!  0/

Thanks for the comments,I think Bralor could be my new 2012 fave custom.......needs some battle scars to the armour and some weathering, should look spot on when done.

I got some cheap KOTCS Indy figures knocking about,I think that'll be a good star for an older Han Solo.........if I can find the head without the hat
The imperial shocktrooper is something I came across browsing wookiepedia,it's like an ARF clone/storm trooper hybrid. Looked cool in pics with heavy weapons so I had to give it a bash.

This episode VII talk got me thinking all kinds of possibilities. Chiss,Rogue clone deserters,Imperial remnant,Darth Krayt,Yuuzhan Vong, palpatine clones...........all that would make for a great sequal trilogy.

Done a few new molds and castings today,I got ARC commanders Blitz and Colt........and I'd like a few more seeing as I've got plenty of CW trooper figures and fodder to use up.

Gonna do a CW commander neyo, helmet fits clone heads a dream.
Made a cast of rum sleg's hair to use as dreadloks for a mando and for another Nihilus.
Managed to find my Indiana jones KOTCS to go with an aged master Luke wip.
Spacer helmet from Bo Shek,Larger than average mando buckets,CW ones too.
Arc pauldrons, packs, kama's,arm and leg mods.darth bane armour pieces.

Might start compiling a list of available cast parts and selling a few.

Did I see mando assassin's ears prick up when I said CW castings  ;D

More pics.
CW commander Neyo with ROTS custom Neyo. Both with removable helmets.
Bralor still a wip but markings now started being added......also a removable helmet, with repeating blaster and vibro blade.
Imperial shock trooper finished sculpting the bucket, painted weathered and complete with heavy launcher.
Arc trooper parts came out well, started detailing Kyle katarn. Got him cheap from eBay minus shoulder piece......crafted one from epoxy, several paints, washes etc for leather effect. Also an aged Han Solo in progress, gave him a bit of a middle age spread around the waistline and a crystal skull Indy head as a starting point.......needing a bigger mullet I think.
Can't do much more to old master Luke, aswell as carrying extra inches and greying Kenobi style beard he carries his fathers sith blade next to his own green saber and blaster.
There's a comic pack Leia I'm gonna star ageing,in the second pic.........,its a small figure and fisher isn't so it may take a while ;)

Nice update!
Found a bit of spare time in between chores D O.......and found a missing fodder bin so I managed a few bits here and there.

Presumed about my ears correctly you did! I would love to get CW castings when you sell and when i have some money! The yellow crusader is your best work! I think i will make me a couple of red yellow and blue crusaders some time! I really like the Cw Neo. I am going to do a Phase 2 CW Neo by sculpting a whole entire new helm!

I've just started compiling a list of parts, the Neyo helmet is a copy of a rots version. I'm going to use it tomorrow to do a CW commander wolffe phase II.
I've got another figure identical to the one used for Bralor.......I'll use that to do a blue one, then whatever I can get hold of to do a red then the KOTOR mandalore.

I was going to try getting hold of some warlordarians by tdf.........not until they're easier to get hold of as as smaller bundle,it's bit pricey for a dozen at a time so until then I'll make my own. The crusader looks great next to Artus Lok in my cabinet........waiting for some casting to cure then ill put the finishing touches to him before posting . It's proving to be quite a pain casting the 2mm diameter studs he's got all over his armour........need 2 dozen to be identical.

I'll be watching you're wip updates to see how the bucket comes along, did you see the shocktrooper heavy gunner......CW ARF trooper cut and combined with a stormy front section? Some added sculpting to finish........might have to cast it.
As for prices, they won't cost much to make.........my only concern is shipping costs,a 50-100gram parcel probably $6 or $7???
I forget him much it cost to send Darth Optimus the lightsaber for the sith predator..........was about £4 ($6) I think.

It's the Paris pursuit snake eyes I used, they came in a FeeBay bundle..........use this variant as he's quite flat and basic all over, and so are neo crusaders.
Also the small 'joe' head mount can be sliced off and the larger spherical nub that's left is spot on for most SW heads.

Best bit about this variant........it's as cheap as chips

Title: Re: Benjani customs-CW Neyo & Wolffe P2 -heavy shocktrooper-episode VII wip
Post by: benjani_1976 on December 10, 2012, 05:44:49 AM
Here's progress on P2 wolffe with added hip rotation. Basic colours laid out.....detailing to follow.
Got a plain clone in a bundle of odds and ends, very basic with a solid helmet,no head but it can do the splits ;D
To do Wolffe p2 I was simply going to use a captain Rex Kama.........couldn't do the splits any more so I got some black nylon fabric, same stuff used for kites it appears, removed the belt.......glued it in place with a length of wire tie.
Put a hem on the Kama to prevent fraying, carefully using a flame......singed the front edges to also prevent fraying.
Glued on the belt with the wire tie, nice and tight I don't want any movement risking fraying.
The holsters are from a Jaster mereel,I bough half a dozen from ws_toys or sinodolls recently dirt cheap.will be painted white before affixing to the belt.
Fabric Kama and holsters attached only at the belt front and back in the middle means he's able to do the splits again.
Moulded a helmet from commander Neyo.......rangefinder will be a section of a sewing needle.......heated and pressed into the bucket, topped with an old potf boba fett section.
Gonna try producing a smaller neck nub for a clone head from the larger nub already in place, failing that it'll be chopped and replaced with a smaller one.

Didn't do much clone wars customs before getting a bulk lot of clones........it's been quite enjoyable, and I expect mr mando is liking their progress too ;)

Thanks, more pics within the next few hours.......Been letting the holsters dry before detailing the points on his grey pattern, not long glued them on.
Head fitted nicely in the end,I was able to dremel the standard clone nub down to fit a CW head.
Used some wire for a shoulder antenna and rangefinder. With a lighter, stripped off the clear plastic coating for the rangefinder.....left it on for the shoulder. Secured antenna with superglue, blended into shoulder with epoxy for added strength. Topped off the tip with a 0.5mm blob of putty
Rangefinder fitting will be a .5mm hole in the helmet,90degree bend in the wire and pressed in,and fixed with superglue and blended again with epoxy.
Will include a group shot of all clone commander customs to date..

Going through a bag of weapons, limbs and other fodder I came across these parts I'd nearly forgotten about until starting a few new CW builds.recently bought some SW/GiJoe fodder/figures/weapons combo etc and what wasn't used immediately went into a tub for use at a later date.

(And I still haven't found what I'm looking for......pardon the pun Bono ;D )

And the rest of his brethren stand around in disbelief at Stones dismembered remains............looking to me for creative inspiration ;D
After some googling and a browse about on Jedi business I was shocked to find out this is all I have of a much sought after CW commander Stone!!!!!!!! :o

We can rebuild him.......we have the technology.

More wip.........seeing as its a flat joint between legs and torso it's a simple self tapper connection. Belt slots in nicely and keeps some tension in the joint preventing any sloppiness.

All going well, hopefully I'll win a cheap captain Rex on FeeBay for the holsters I need.
Next step the hair needs to go.....short back and sides My Stone?

Kashyyk ARC trooper is another CW wip with new castings.......should go well with my phase 2 Gree

What's going on with the new phase 2 troopers from hasbro? They're poorly made and the price is the same......tut tut hasbro

How bad a state is your CC Stone in to be in a fodder bin? Can't be as bad as this one I picked up :D

Got a cheap Rex coming soon, first I'm gonna try slicing them off the Kama and mod the head and see how it looks.
Used the R4 as it was cheap and cheerful. After QT-KT i'll do  R2-KT to go with the charity version.
I just picked up a CW c3po for a shade under $5 to go with R2..........that a good price for him?seems quite htf.

Even though I'm 36 I still get spoilt by the missus and mother dearest.........might even treat myself to a legacy falcon in the new year sales ;D

Back to the mando's........been chopping and changing helmet components........on the bronze one there's an AT-TE piece added and the green one is a naboo soldier helmet with a mando front and both smoothed and sculpted to blend into each other.

I think they finish my skirata clan nicely.

As far as the camera that might be better, for some reason the ipad seems to be making the pics a little grainy (check out the front page pic). Could be the megapixels on the ipad or the lack of a macro setting.

I like the variation in this new group of 3.  The red one looks pretty cool; like the plastic soft goods to sell the 'nomad' look.  I also just caught the use of one of the Naboo guard helmets on the back of the Mando bucket; adds a nice touch to that fig.  Slight differences that make them Mandos, but not the same ol', same ol'.

Glad ya like em,enjoyed mixing these up a bit. The Naboo helmet worked a dream.......I liked the vented sections and the leather flap at the back,it's like added neck protection.
I got enough standard mando's........like spry I'm on a bit of a run with plenty of combo's and variations from standard armour. They could be seen as trophies, incorporated into standard armour or as reminders of their origins and roots.
I gave the copper one his red Kamino under suit, clone helmet armour.......Pauldron,all pieces of GAR roots.

Look forward to seeing more Spry Mandalorians.........I'm gonna post a pic of my recent variants in a group pic,I might have done something you may find useful in tweaking your variants.

All comments and feedback highly appreciated, may the force be with you all and have a merry Xmas and an awesome new year.

Great Mando's. I like the rocket pack's.
Thanks, getting some more variations in my mando's........got some more in progress but while the kids are at mine over Xmas, can't really do much.

But here's a quick little project I've just started.
Wulff Yularen holo table with functioning lighting.

I spotted the holo table is held together with 2 screws, out they came and the table pedestal is hollow so the ol' grey matter clicked into gear.
3 x 6mm dia 1.5v button cell batteries in a custom made holder slots inside the pillar nicely. All I'm hunting for is a tiny switch.........so before the kids throw any old toys out I'm gonna be robbing them of any electrical for this project and jabbas palace.

Post by: DocOutlands on December 27, 2012, 10:21:14 AM
Check the switches in LED booklights and in "flameless tealights" - both are quite small.  An idea I was looking at involved a submersible "wedding light" (sold for use in champaigne, helium party balloons, floral arrangements, and the like) tucked inside the pedestal leg.

This really looks great, especially how well the 'holograms' look on top of the LEDs.  They really do have a nice glow to them.

Nice work!
Title: Re: Benjani customs - LED light up CW Yularen holo table complete.
Post by: benjani_1976 on December 28, 2012, 09:38:28 AM
Cheers guys, I had to use a layer of compact foam as a diffuser to get it like that.........without it there was just a blue dot, holograms would need to be sat right on it to glow. With the light spreading through the opaque foam anything sat on the table glows anywhere its put.

Tempted to do the same to a BD34 Ben Kenobi table.........looks easy. 5 mm hole drilled from below under the fixed Leia hologram........then secure a balloon light fitting beneath.

Watch this space, likely take me half an hour to do later seeing as this conversion only took an hour.

Sorry about your grandfather, man.
I've gotta say, these ep7 entries are some of my favorites, I love the characters as ideas and they are very well executed, they all look great! I really like the Ahsoka and Mace, and the clones are very well done too.

So sorry for your loss my friend. These types of things can take a lot out of a person. Glad to see you are coming back around again. Most awesome update with these new figures! Love the work you are doing! On overload from so many cool customs! That Gregor is a favorite of mine for sure!

Yeah it knocked me for 6 for a while, didn't expect to lose him I always thought he'd pull through......always been there like a father to me,taught me everything.
A master craftsman, always model making, scale buildings, trainset scenery and landscaping.....he did like the jabbas palace and pit pics I showed him.

Gutted I missed entering the contest,i forget the time zone difference.Mace Windu was one of my favourites I've done for a while. I hope he makes a comeback to the new Jedi order,or I'd like to see him and Kenobi in a spin-off post order-66,I do like Samuel L as an actor. lightsaber in blue having lost his violet blade, prosthesis, scruffy nomadic robes, eye patch and scars.....looks good alongside my nomad Kenobi.

Must say my clone collection is coming along now,Appo,Gregor with modded pack(don't like the CW pack for Boss at all),wollfe, fox,Neyo.

Thanks ribbit, got a couple more here.

I had a notification on eBay the other day to say a Jaina and Jacen solo pair of carded figures had been listed somewhere recently in Germany so I thought I'll have a quick butchers at them.
£90 for legacy Jaina!!!!!!!
£120 for Jacen!!!!!

That's kotobukiya prices so I made them.........cuz it's what shipyarders do best.
Caedus is still a wip,Jaina virtually done, waiting on satin clear coat through the post.

Jaina:-
Head.....................kitty pryde. Koto one looks too much like something out of Japanese anime plus kitty has an element of Han Solo about the hairstyle.
Legs...................... plour illo
Upper torso (and epoxy putty)
Upper arms...........both CW Aurra sing
Forearms.............. Cw aurra sing modified to hold swivel gloves
Gloves..................emperors shadow guard
Pelvis...................comic pack luke
Waist piece..........comic pack luke
Helmet.................random Luke x wing pilot
Flight suit sleeves........comic pack luke legs (no knee joints) cut, hollowed, boiled and flattened, dremel led to shape
Custom lightsaber........legacy cad bane blaster.

Chest piece I used a potj x wing pilot from the fodder bin, cut, drilled, sanded into a hollowed out wearable piece,1mm thick at most.

Nice work man, she turned out great! I've been trying to figure out a parts list for this one and I like how your Jaina looks,I might have to borrow some ideas  ;D   And I agree the Kotobukiya (?) one looks a little to much like Anime for my taste, I like the head on this one though.

I seen your mandalore and about to comment then the iPad battery died, I thnk mine was wip pics, lost a piece of armour I took ages making so I shelved it for a bit......I like yours better, might kick start me into attempting the armour again.

Styife looks a bad ass don't he.......obi was one of my faves to do,looks great next to the Windu survivor..kreia/Traya was all about the head sculpting, tricky but good fun to do. One of my fave KOTOR customs is Nihilus with removable mask & hood.
This Disney takeover got me tinkering with the EU now, hopefully they'll do it proud for EP7

Mara Jade wip

Tron legacy Quorra figure - bulky electronics pack removed and filled. (Pic at bottom shows battery pack from similar figure)
Head and neck.................... marvel psylock.....secured with 3mm dowel, epoxy resin.
CW clone trooper feet.........tron ones sucked, unstable.

Oh nice! Mara's looking nice, I think I'll probably have to make one myself because even if Hasbro releases the one they have ready in the Black Series, it's EU so it's probably gonna be no where to be found and have a $50 price on eBay and Amazon. The head and body on the mara are very fitting, and I was looking for a use for those Tron figures, my Dollar General has about 20 or so of these figures, I might have to pick some up soon.

I picked up a few in a local pound store,£1 each for clu,Quorra and a black guard.
13 points of articulation plus swivel hip joints.......can't be bad eh ;)

I think after reading that about likely silly prices for a new mara I'll add a new listing notification to my eBay just in case a cheap one pops up when released.
As for amazon.........that just a crazy place for dumbass prices.

Thanks spry, glad ya like it....good to hear from you, been a while.

eBay prices were shocking for the standard legacy one,had to make this......way better. Despite the tricky work, had fun making her.
Chest piece was a bit harder than originally planned,I half expected the donor pilot to be like a typical hasbro figure with a hollow body cavity but it was solid plastic. Ripped the guts out of it with a dremel and various tips, mainly an 8mm barrel sander.

Next up.....should get mara jade finished shortly.
Found a spare set of sandstorm Luke/Han goggles,a nice gun belt from a Mcquarrie concept Luke,a Windu removable purple blade, need to find a nice looking hilt for it.

Thank god for this site and the art of customising action figures, sure takes the mind off things........we're back in business ;D

Dude, that road warrior is just awesome! Tell us about the leg brace?

Leg brace made from 4 lengths of stainless steel wire, about .7mm dia. On one end of each of the lower lengths I formed a 90 degree bend,to fit inside the loop formed on the ends of the upper brace. Fixed wire in place with some rapid set epoxy, aligned one side at a time as it was setting to give some degree of movement but not too much.....due to biker induced roadside 'kneecapping'.

The leather straps formed from thinly rolled strips of milliput (similar to fix-it) ,secured and dried. Dremelled in some creases to the leather, dark basecoat of brown, black, vermillion and yellow washes for effect.

The head started as a tac jango, didn't look mean enough so swapped out for tycho celchu......hair coloured, tan was for the face......dry brushed in some grey sideburns.

Base figure was a snake eyes, the version that comes with a 3/4 length coat, left arm I thing is a gi joe that originally came with yellow hair, flesh colour shirt, green legs, tan knees, tan boots......duke maybe? Spliced the arms between shoulder and elbow with 2mm dowel and epoxy. Putty to blend in the joint.
Milliput for armour sculpting,gi joe modified crossbow, handmade sawn off shotgun and holster, handmade the spanner from nickel costume jewellery chain and a chopped and shaped bit of thin plastic. Arrow sheath from a hawkeye I think.

Good fun doing this, looking into possible 1:18 donors for the falcon xb interceptor........not cheap, not having much luck finding similar kits yet.

Thanks for the feedback on him,mad max is a legend......looking forward to Tom Hardy in MM4 thunder road,I think he'll pull off a cracking job.

Back in the day, the 90s that is, there used to be a 1/24th scale max metal figure with dog/ dingo, I believe. I don't suppose you know anything about that? I have been desperately seeking one to go with my yet unbuilt interceptor kit.

Tomorrow I'm off to where I used to live and I know several model shops,2 or 3 that hold some interesting stock so I'll see what I can dig up,I'm struggling to find a suitable donor car for the interceptor.
Shipping a 1:18 die cast from the US,getting quoted more than the cost of the model itself.........not spotted any plastic build kits yet.
Any suggestions for a similar car to the 1973 ford falcon xb gt?

That was a brand new blank canvas.......M reg,1994-5 I think. First one in the country at the time, first time I drove one too,I didn't get to drive the Scania being only 17 at the time.
That's what I did back then......apprentice vehicle mechanic then into commercial body repair........then onto bigger stuff, aircraft for 12 years.....Airbus A380,they don't come bigger than that, wouldn't want to prep and paint that for a living ;D

Are there any American/Australian muscle car enthusiasts able to suggest a similar car to build into a '73 Ford falcon XB GT,maybe info on 1:18 model kit manufacturers I can look into it would be greatly appreciated.
I've looked at mustangs, chargers, chevelle's,a Torino talladega and a fairlane so far........last 2 close but still needs major surgery.
PM me anything of interest, there's some items listed on eBay.com that don't always appear in a worldwide search........no idea why.

Decided to rip apart my mandalore the ultimate wip, hadn't bothered with it in months and it was bugging me. previous wip pictured alongside Artus Lok (mandalore the vindicated wip)

Upper body evolutions mandalore
Lower body crisis fodder figure.
Chest armour modified clone trooper and epoxy.
Belt from a GiJoe snake eyes

Plenty of epoxy putty for sculpting. 2nd lot of sculpting in white......previous days sculpting now in satin black, apart from the high neck guard/collar we won't see it all until final paint apps.

Cheers guys, bit more tinkering here and there maybe but that's about it........pauldron sits on the robe just right, didn't want to fix them in place being as large as they are, would've seriously reduced movement so after securing the robe with a few stitches, sat them on top and let the chain links hold them in place.
Breather hoses are removable from their sockets, helps to remove the Pauldron
The battle axe was chopped at just below the head binding, profiled the sandtrooper staffs bulky end and drilled 2.5mm to accept the axe handle, profiled the other end into a point, might change that point later.

Hi guys, thanks for the comments.....and the fp tamer. Really cool project this time around, had myself a few moments of inspiration slotted together like the robes and pauldrons fitting, trying out new techniques.
I too like the tatty damaged robes,I like my Mandalorians to look like they've been in the thick of battle, chewed up by a sarlacc and spat out, dragged through a hedge backwards........then sideways ;D

Does look a bit more warrior-like from how he started out eh?!!!

Upper thighs from scuba clone trooper

Rebreather and pouches McQuarrie concept snowtrooper

Looks the part with his bandana eh........some brown and black washes was all it took, now I'm still hunting a 1973 falcon XB GT or similar. I hear from tamer you're the muscle car guy to speak to.
I'm still looking for your 1:24 mad max.......nothing yet sorry

Wolfe looks good. So does the max dog.

Just been through the clip on Star Wars.com and took some stills on the pad........better views than the last lot off USA today.

I had a bit of a mare getting the inner piece from the McQuarrie outer shell, but the RC bucket fits inside perfectly,I'll have those close ups when the wolf decal done,I've left one half to dry while I have a blast on riddick, butcher bay and Athena  ;D

Thanks guys, truly one of my favourites to do........credit to clint too for an awesome deadite sculpt that was flawlessly cast as always.

Here's a wip of my sith apprentice to Plagueis, young Darth sidious. With Andeddu looking particularly evil looking in the background.
I've removed the receding hairline with milliput and blended in the hair texture, with added care I've filled in the deep wrinkles all over to give him a slightly fuller healthier facial build and complexion.

He does look particularly menacing doesnt he >:(

Got a commission piece to do,a little bit out of the ordinary. Been challenged by a mate of mine from junior school days and worked together for 12years  to mount an LED powered laser etched 3D engraved crystal into an action figure.
It has to be size proportionate so I'm working with an 8" figure.
Has to be removable and interchangeable.
Has to have a removable helmet.

Going to go for an ancient warlord/fantasy theme heavily armoured. His rough draft bears a striking resemblance to Darth Krayt which is right up my street.

Cool looking project. Back to the front page.

I was just talking about you on CAFN last night.
Wow,that sounds most impressive ......I'll be sure to tune in later,I must apologise for being absent......re-reading Luceno's Darth plagueis.
Also tinkering with the holo figure, remember the old action figures visionaries? Imagine that but in a 21st century format and your own face light up inside the armour.......jumped at the idea of it.

The possibilities are endless.........3d holo images of yourself on a comm table for the fan novels. Your face inside a jedi/sith holocron or projecting your image from within the holocron onto a surface.

Currently I have the figure rigged to it slots into the neck and body cavity,as it does it turns on the LED and clicks firmly into a securing clip. Also started some warrior sculpting. First I need to finish this book as I didn't read it fully the first time, kinda skipped through it for a few ideas.

Thanks for the keen interest, will be sure to update you all shortly.

Commission piece progressing well, should have some pics soon.

In regards to the holo head figure, would anybody like to see anything similar produced?

A couple of ideas I've come up with are to either light up your holo table with the new power pack I'm using. Or to produce similar tables in 1:18 or 1/6
Holocron key rings?
Holocrons to be placed over a light source. I.e on the light table? 1:18 or 1/6

The crystal can contain any 3d images, and be mounted in anything I guess........I'm curious to see if a 1:18 figure can be produced as a light up crystal holo image. Highly detailed compared to the blue plastic moulded figures.

Press a button on a custom made computer console and a 3d image of yourself appears on screen.......... How does that sound?

What would you like to see for your diorama or display cabinet?
Reach out with your feelings......let the force flow through you and hit me with your thoughts ;D

I have always wanted to see a circular action figure sized platform that could be used to light up holographic figures.

I keep thinking a Krang cube would look good for one of these you are working on too.

Thanks very much you guys,I showed my mates a couple of wip shots and they didn't expect it to look this good already.........to say they're please with it is an understatement.

I'm also looking into the idea of a holo table for the figures........size,shape and also the option to have every figures name laser etched into designated etched out spaces so when it's illuminated, the holo figures light up and their names appear.
Holocrons I believe can be etched with any intricate patterns and down to about 10mm cubes.......not permanently illuminated though.

Should be fun to get some examples of custom Star Wars crystals up on here and judge the feedback.

Benjani, you sir are a customizing machine!  The final product here looks amazing.  You've integrated the crystal into the figure so well it doesn't really even look like a custom figure.  Sensational work!
