Thanks guys!

Hey Ron, you do a lot of Tatooine themed dios, what do you recommend that I use to give it that stone look? Is there a specific type plaster that you use? On my first Jabba dio I just bought a tub of DAP (that kind used for hiding tapelines) and brushed it on. It tends to chip and flake though. Do you have any ideas on something that will stand up better to the test of time?

I appreciate the input from you guys.

I'm about to try some spray-on sealant as a test to prevent that very chipping problem.  Keep an eye on my dio thread - "Boryla Sector on display" - for details.

How thick did you make the steps?  I'm toying with the need for some solid stairs and am trying with proper sizing.

Hey mate,

I mainly use just normal plaster of paris with some PVA/Woodglue and to get that stoney affect I add fine river sand.

For example if I have 5 cups of plaster I add 1/4 cup of PVA/Woodglue and then 3 cups of fine river sand.  I then pour the water until the mix is like a pancake type consistency. Then start adding the mix to the walls floors etc, the only problem with adding PVA/woodglue is that the plaster tends to dry a little faster then usual.

Thanks guys! And thank you Tamer for the front page!

@docoutlands Will do, I'll be watching your posts. The steps are 1/2" tall. I eyeballed how tall steps are to my shins, and 1/2" seemed appropriate for the 3 1/4" figure. Besides, the platform I am trying to reach is 2 1/2" so it divides by five steps perfectly.

@hemble thanks for the tip. I definately need to branch out more with different techniques.

Slowly but surely...I slowed down quite a bit when putting the steps together. I'm trying so hard not to rush it, but I get really excited when it gets close to realization.

While I certainly don't feel worthy speaking to someone of your caliber, I must apologize for my late response. I sincerely hate that I am just now seeing this, but I am very happy at the same time for seeing all of the amazing pictures. From the WIP pix to the final product pix, I was literally sitting here with my mouth agape like a drooling idiot, admiring all of the fine details that you've incorporated into each and every square inch of the wonderful creations. My hat is off to you, sir. Seriously.

Yakface, if you make dios as good as you sculpt/paint figures you will be in the business of awesomeness. I can't wait to see what you'll come up with.

I've seen massive dios on this subject, however yours is much more on the line of a Playset, which is something I really like.

Great workmanship so far!
