Title: jabba_man's customs and WIP Landos millennium falcon
Post by: Jabba_man on October 21, 2019, 05:34:57 PM
Hey guys been on here lurking for a while now. Love all your customs! Here is my custom millennium falcon from solo. It's made from the legacy falcon. It's not quite finished yet. Still needs some additional details and a bit of weathering. Hope you all enjoy

That's really amazing! What materials did you use for the additional parts?

Hi thanks I appreciate it. I used legacy falcon mandibles I got off of Ebay from a parts lot and spliced them on. Took alot of fiddling to get it the way I wanted. I tried to kitbash from all original falcon parts since I'm bad at sculpting detail lol

Took some more pics today of the lighting on it.
I cant take full credit for the lights as they were custom on the original legacy falcon when I purchased it used. I wanted it too look as new as possible since thats the whole point of this build and then I came across this falcon on Ebay that had all these super bright LEDs with it. I did rewire a few to accommodate the longer nose and my mods though and replaced the rear clear engine piece so it would be even more brighter and clear.

Your project is bloody darn awesome, man!

I've already spent a good half hour looking at your pictures on my cell phone. I sent one of my buddies the link and asked him if he needed an upgrade of the SOLO Falcon he found on clearance for 14 bucks recently. Well, now I'm sitting at my laptop to read everything you shared about your Millenium Falcon so far and now my jaw hurts quite a bit from hitting the desk.
I didn't recognize you used the Legacy Falcon for this crazy project! There're quite a few incomplete BMFs on ebay here in Germany starting at 60€.
So if I find another one around that price range I will take that into consideration. But I doubt that I can make it look that brilliantly like yours!

It's no secret that you did an epic job on your Falcon! Despite all the hate against the SOLO movie, I really like the design of the Falcon to the time when she still belonged to Lando. The cargo add-on looks very reasonable.
Love the white base paint and blue paint apps on it. The cockpit looks sick with all the lights added. Not to mention the incredible work on the front. 'Nuff said since already said in the comments above. I've sworn more than I should already, but this custom ship looks fredding fantastic! Jabba_man - welcome here and thank you so much for sharing this top notch project!

What a great idea!

Much respect & appreciation from Germany!

- Philipp

P.S.: That electric car in the background is pretty nice, too! Always dreamed of one of those when I was a kid...

Thanks! I'm hoping to have the inside painted soon and a crew for it. I wish Hasbro would have made the whole crew for the vintage collection :/ but I found a little figurine set from a Disney store that will work nicely. And for anybody wanting to do this the paint is tamiya white fine model primer and the blue is from a paint pen I got from Walmart. The paint is what really brought this together. It hides alot of the mistakes I made lol. I'm a huge millennium falcon fan and Hasbro didnt do this version justice by releasing that tiny under scaled toy.

Hey guys! Today I got to do a little more work on the falcon. I was able to source a better sized dish for her. I built the bottom gun for the belly and did a little kitbash and rework on the front end so there isnt so many gaps and it slopes down more smoothly. Also added some details around the vents on the mandibles ( not sure what they are called) and to finish it off I did a little weathering around the rear engines.

Hands down one of the greatest projects I have seen custom wise lately. So cool.

I would so wish Hasbro would give us a front end piece like you had done here where we could turn our Legacy Falcons (the BMF Version) into one of these if we so chose. Don't think I am not gonna use your image and question the brand team about it the next time we do a q and a session. I might even throw in, can you guys create a lighting kit for it too!

Off to share this update.

The crew have arrived

Excellent! Those figurines/statues from Disney are of great detail! I really like the sculpts and quality of  painting!
Over the years I received a few of those key chain figurines along with some custom fodder. THose key chains are in 1/24 scale and I love to display them next to Hasbro's underscaled vehicles. The BMF is one of them.
Now, are these figures from Disney rather 1/18 or 1/24 scale, too?
Thanks for your reply btw!

Yeah they are about 1/18 scale and a bit smaller than 3.75 figures. But they scale ok with others if u have a droid or something you want to display next to them. wish the paint was a little better though :/

Thank you. I was worried the new nose section was getting to look chunky but I'm trying to get it to gradually slope down instead having it in steps like before and also trying to get rid of any seams.

Post by: Jabba_man on October 27, 2019, 05:47:07 PM
So today I once again reworked the nose section. Something just wasnt right about it. I was able to get to slope down the way I wanted it to by finally giving in and scratch building it from styrene. Its a rough cut of what I want but i think I'm going to stick with this version and detail it . also started painting the cockpit 😁

Hey guys. Been working a lot lately but made some progress. Reworked the oval vent covers I had originally sculpted because they looked kinda bad. But these are made from styrene. Did some detail work on them and added the hoses on the left one. Also getting closer to finishing the paint job as well. Next will be the lighting in the cockpit. Enjoy :)

Sorry for my late reply. I'm on the computer now and just took a closer look at the crew. I think they look pretty decent! Of course faces are always a challenge to paint correctly. I cannot make faces look halfway okay, but I'm sure those Disney figurines look like junk compared to your skills. I can send you some pictures of G scale figurines for 1/24 scale model trains if that makes you feel better ;) From my perspective they look good.
Your Millenium Falcon project is very remarkable! Much respect for your sculpting skills, too!
Thanks for the update! It's definitely time to celebrate that progress!

Post by: Jabba_man on November 18, 2019, 12:42:16 PM
Thanks this originally started out as the Ralph mcquarrie concept millennium falcon but then it kept evolving until I settled on this version. Its probably my favorite project I have done so far. The side doors open to allow oversized cargo to be loaded It also has an air lock on the bottom and a working ramp in the back end from a legacy falcon. It's an automated droid cargo ship named the sunbeam. (name pending ). She is very old and slow but still flying.Plenty of room for droids to do their job but a little cramped for life forms. But with a few modifications she can support a crew of four easily. The cockpit is the most roomy part of the ship so when an actual pilot is required that's where they usually hang out in their downtime. She sports four pods that can be used as cargo holds, restrooms, sleeping quarters you name it. Just as versatile as the yt-1300's but not as roomy or quick so it didnt sell well  0/

Thanks guys. Im currently working on version 2. It will be more sturdy and incorporate a lot I have learned from my other customs. I would upload more pics of the process but my phone takes 4k pics and I have to lower the resolution of each one before I upload them and it is a pain because sometimes they still wont upload. I also have more to show on my landos falcon. Just have to find time to get the pics up. She is finished 🤗 😁

Cool cannot wait to see it all. I understand your pain about the phone uploads, I'm in the same boat. Ironically its also the only reason I don't have di$ney+ IT would just destroy my data since they have like all SW, MARVEL, 80-90's Disney cartoons and all the cool or zanny really old Disney movies. My data would be gone in like 38-40 hours lol
