Title: Vintage 2010 Regular Vehicles
Post by: Tamer on February 14, 2010, 04:52:08 PM

I will have both of these. I am hearing rumors that we may see some special boxed versions of two vehicles and these may be it. I would assume these will probably be store specific.

Yup, I'll DEFINITELY pick up the Twin Pod Cloud Car, and there's a good chance I'll get the Snowspeeder too!

Gotta love how these things unfold. First a Snowspeeder Luke, then a new Dak figure, now a new Snowspeeder! Definitely getting the snowspeeder, as well as the figures for it.

Anyone notice that the snowspeeder's colors have the gray markings that Luke's snowspeeder had, as opposed to the regular red markings we see? Glad to see Hasbro got that detail right.   :)

I'll buy both, if they do turn up in vintage packaging I will get those as well but they better be better than the window boxed style they released the previous OTC vintage Xwing, Tie, and Slave 1 in

I posted this in another thread but it's probably more appropriate here now.

Quoted from jeditemplearchives.com concerning the new snowspeeder:

"LUKE SKYWALKER'S SNOWSPEEDER - In stores Aug. '10
The new snowspeeder was first announced in a September 2008 Q&A session with JTA , and the staff here has been eagerly awaiting it ever since. This new version is scaled much more like the vehicle in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, which interestingly enough is actually SMALLER than the vintage toy that has been the basis for several modern era reissues. The new mold also features projectile firing cannons, stabilizer flaps and two interchangeable harpoon guns. One harpoon gun is movie accurate and the other features a firing tow cable for play with your AT-AT walker. "

What an interesting detail for Hasbro to make two harpoon guns for the Snowspeeder. Nice attention to detail there.

Maybe the snowspeeder, but the cloud car is a design I have hated since I was a child.

doesn't the cloud car also split into two individual vehicles?  Im assumeing that feature is a testament to mc-quarie's concepts of the cloud car which originally were only one "pod" and then reworked into the design of the "combat cloud car"

I will have both of these as I don't have a cloud car yet, but that snowspeeder is definitely improved.

I notice that in that high rez shot that the snowspeeder is wearing the alternate screen accurate tow cable gun.

I can't wait to get this both, As I'v never had on before, It is me or is the snowspeeder's cockpit still to small? I remember playing with a friend of mine back in the day, he had one. And we had all kinds of trouble getting figures in the backseat. I hope they fixed that. I love the cloud car.

It looks to me like the seat is set further forward, this time, allowing more room to get a figure in the back gunner's position.

I'm guessing you got out with the Sith Infiltrator.   :)  I only mention that one specifically because the scale was just too far off for me to appreciate that particular vehicle.  It's nice to see Hasbro has been able bring out some vehicles that are better scaled matches to their on screen counterparts.

And speaking of the NEW snowspeeder mold, I seem to recall a certain Enterprise captain raking me over the proverbial coals after I'd suggested this mold was new.   ;)

I would like to see a compairason shot of the old/new snowspeeder. From what I see it doesn't look any different then the old one. That's one thing that bugs me. I'm sure the snowspeeder could have used an update but there is so many unmade vehicles that I wish they would have did 1st.
Title: Re: Vintage 2010 Regular Vehicles
Post by: B.R. Steel on February 27, 2010, 10:14:18 AM
I'd like to see a comparison shot myself.  There is a clue or two about its smaller size compared to the old.  But without a side-by-side picture, it's tough to know what we'll be getting.  Maybe we could ask in the next Q&A session if Hasbro could provide just such a photo.
Title: Re: Vintage 2010 Regular Vehicles
Post by: Mike Cypress on February 27, 2010, 10:18:33 AM
I'd hate to waste a question on that though, even though I would like to see a comparison. Wonder if the snowspeeder will be coming with a pilot? That's what I don't understand is the Target snowspeeder with Wes Janson a few years back was cool. Didn't see why an update was needed. Hopefully they will add something in there that will make this a must have.

Might not be a bad question to see if they would give us a comparison shot with this new one and and old one. You guys are coming up with some great questions.

I never owned a vintage snowspeeder and I've never bought any of the modern repaints of it but I'll likely buy this newly sculpted one.    Probably.   I think.

Cloud Car I'm buying 2 of as soon as I see them on the shelves (which necessitates 4 of the new pilots, hehehe).   I've been waiting 15 years for a new twin pod cloud transport, I'm ecstatic it's finally coming.   And it looks amazing.

This looks nice. I have wanted this ship for years! I hope they have not messed it up with extra features and pop out parts. I'll get this as soon as I see one!
Title: Re: Vintage 2010 Regular Vehicles
Post by: B.R. Steel on May 16, 2010, 08:42:36 AM
I'm hoping it doesn't get messed up with the extra features and pop out parts too.  I tended to look at all "standard mode" photos of this vehicle with a very skeptical eye.  Everything I've seen so far does seem to suggest all the annoying stuff collectors hate can be well concealed.

Ironically, I had the original Cloud Car as a kid and remember being kind of underwhelmed when I got it--which was the reason I understood Hasbro's past reluctance to bring this one out.  We'll be able to tell for sure when folks actually have these in hand; but Hasbro may have finally struck the perfect balance between kids and collectors --incorporate action features that can be removed or totally concealed for the collector.  In my mind this concept should be used in taking another stab at playsets.

dang dude. do you work for Toys r us or what? Why pay extra cost when you can wait for a month or so and go to the stores and get them.  The thrill of the hunt is half the joy.
Title: Re: Vintage 2010 Regular Vehicles
Post by: McMetal on June 27, 2010, 06:52:06 PM
Explain to me what the "extra cost" was exactly?

Shipping was free on my order. Everything I bought was exactly the same price as it would have been in a brick and mortar TRU. So how did they jack me up?

If the thrill of the hunt is half the joy, then the other half is actually owning the damn things with the peace of mind that you have them all. I'll be savoring that feeling over the next six weeks...enjoy your wait.

Post by: Mike Cypress on June 27, 2010, 09:08:14 PM
I just seen you posted in two threads about TRU and I looked and their prices were $7.49 for some of the guys. I don't buy online anyways, but it seemed like you were straight up advertising for them man. I am waiting longer than 6 weeks because their isn't any "must haves" for me in the 1st couple of waves. To each their own. I just don't understand the need to go pay a lil more for something when you can just wait a lil bit.  It's like people paying extravagent amounts of money for stuff on Ebay too. I just don't get it....and I love my action figures but their isn't any Star Wars figures that should be worth more than $10 to me.
Title: Re: Vintage 2010 Regular Vehicles
Post by: McMetal on June 28, 2010, 05:28:48 PM
Oy vey, I'm not trying to be crabby about this, really, I was trying to provide an informative post for the benefit of others, not pimp TRU. All of the other fan sites over the weekend like Yakface, Galactic Hunter, or Jedi Temple Archives had posts in similar threads just like mine.

The fact is, a lot of people DO order online now, if for no other reason than Hasbro's distribution is so piss-poor. The first domestic availability of any new wave after a major relaunch is newsworthy, regardless of who has it.

I can't speak for every region, but around here ALL of the SW figures are $7.49 on the pegs at TRU, so the prices at the website are exactly the same as what you would pay in the store. The worst part about online ordering is the shipping, and that was free.  :)

By all means, people should feel free to order whichever way the feel best about. The important thing is to have fun.

McMetal we do appreciate you trying to give us a heads up about this. That is indeed what this place is about, spreading information. And I do agree, its all about having fun.

That being said, I do agre with Mike about being patient and you will be able to save a few dollars, but for those who like their items early and with toysrus half off deal and free shipping it is pretty comparable.

To each his own though. To each his own.

Thate being said both of these are still in stock. If I wasn't such a daggone minty minded collector I would probably order. Still, I also have an idea that walmart and target will be getting exclusive vintage carded boxes so the carded guy in me is gonna wait to see that for sure too.
Title: Re: Vintage 2010 Regular Vehicles
Post by: Mike Cypress on June 28, 2010, 06:31:58 PM
Toys R Us stores are the worst at stocking shelves. That's why I hate their exclusives because they are so hard to find. No, I am not an online buyer...just costs more/credit card charges/shipping/higher prices. Guess it some ways online has it's uses. I would just use online stores to find hard to find stuff. I hear ya man.
Title: Re: Vintage 2010 Regular Vehicles
Post by: Tamer on June 28, 2010, 06:39:44 PM
Yeah, I agree, I usually hit online only when that is the only option or there is a great deal going. Sometimes ee, hasbrotoyshop, and toysrus have good online deals as long as the shipping doesnt get you.  I am always leary online though because the product just could show up bashed and the post office blames the etailer and the etailer blames the post office, etc. etc.

My last toysrus purchase was  a wing city guard they shipped in a regular mailing envelope. It showed up crushed on all sides. Still if you are an opener, it is not as big of an issue.

90% of Target/Toys-R-Us exclusives suck because they never have them in stock....you have to catch them right on time when they 1st get put on the shelves, and there is about 10 targets and 3 TRU in Austin where I live.

I know I've missed out on a few exclusives myself.  Not getting the last B.A.D, expanded universe wave that was supposed to be at Toys R' Us, still torques me off a bit.  However, I have to say, living in a much smaller city than Austin seems to help quite a bit.  Even if the store-to-people ratio ends up about the same, it still seems like there's less competition for the stuff.

Thats a daggone good question. I was seriously disappointed that Toy Fair didn't show us any of what the vintage vehicle offerings would be. I thought we might see the next big one and for some of the regular size ones, but the only vehicle offerings were from TCW line.

I saw the Snowspeeder in it's exclusive Vintage packaging in my local comic book store (they get their stock from Forbidden Planet). I was tempted for it but needed some other Vintage figures. Hope its still there next week, I might try and get it!
