Title: Captain Kirk's customs
Post by: James T. Kirk on January 16, 2010, 12:46:11 AM
I don't have a lot of time to work on customs, so this probably won't be updated too often. This is my first custom figure, I did it in February of 2009 after I started watching Jay's and Steve's videos on Youtube. I don't have a name or story for him, but I was going for a Sith Nautolan. I tried to paint him up kind of like Darth Maul, with the red and black. I thought it came out pretty good and suited the figure well.

I used the Kit Fisto figure from the 2003 Clone Wars series, and the lightsaber whip (Don't know what they're called  :() was made from a stick that came with a C-3PO figure. It was used to hold up his Ewok throne chair. I let it sit in a sink full of hot water for about ten minutes, and then bent it to the shape I wanted, and painted it over with a red sharpie.

Thank you CloneCommander! Customs usually aren't my thing, and this is the only one I have ever done. But after seeing the amazing talent and the excellent customs on this site, I'll probably try to do more.

Thanks Tamer and Jules!

Everyone, I don't have a Commander Appo figure, and have always wanted one. So do you think I should take one of my 501st clones and put the pauldron from a 327th Star Corps on him and paint it blue? (I've got 6 501st clones and 2 327th Star Corp clones. I don't like taking things away from my figures, so I only customize duplicates.)

I've also got 2 Saluecami (Spelling?) troopers, so I might do something with one of those.

If you have always wanted one and you think you can do a good job go for it.

Alright, I decided to do a custom of him. Here are a couple of WIP shots. Not sure what to do with the 327th body yet, but like clonemedic96 said, I'm sure I'll find a use for it  :)   I've just got to paint him now, but unfortunately, I have no paint. So I'll probably pick up some paint this weekend, and finish him up.

Commander Appo had no kama.... you just made yourself a Commander Vill figure... just paint the yellow on the belt and pauldron both blue...
There may be a few other things... but that is about it.
Commander Appo had a pauldron with standard belt... no kama or pistols.
Or paint the kama black and add a commander Bly type visor to the helmet and you have a Commander Bow figure.
But Vill was the only removable helmet 501st Commander released that I have found...
I like what you are doing. That is where all great customs begin.
I keep showing my son the same accessory swapping to make different figs, and for a 5 year old he is catching on quick.

In this picture on wookiepedia, Appo has a kama.

I have that comic.
Did you read the wookieepedia entry for Appo, Vill, and Bow?  They used the same pics in all 3 articles.
I still have the MOC Commander Appo and he has no kama or pistols.
That is why I got about 8 Commander Vill figs. removable helmet and kama and pistols and already has a 501st paint job.
If I didnt have the actual figs, I would make my own...when I finally got around to it.
I wasnt happy with the fig released with no kama or pistols, we all know  they look much better with the kama and pistols.
I say you just make your own interpretation of an Appo fig.
You already made a good start, and all you need is paint.

Oh, I didn't know whether he had one or not, and that was the only picture I found that showed if he had one. Well I guess it'll be a Commander Vill fgure then.  :)

Thanks for the comments!

Well, I still haven't had a chance to get any paint, becaue the store where I get my paint is on the other side of town. So I did some other simple customs. I'm not too good at customizing and don't have a lot of spare parts to use, so I just use whatever I can find.

Here is a simple Clone Commander I customized.

That clone wars commander is really simple and nice. Sometimes you don't need to overdo and paint a figure to get a really great result. This is one such example. Love it!! And that sword is awesome too. A gun holster could fit nicely on the leg if you had a spare one.

Thank you for the great comments!  It means a lot coming from great customizers like all of you. You guy inspired me to start doing customs, and I love doing it, so thank you.
