In the memory of Mercury Art Studios, the following sites are working together to bring to the customizing community a joint customizing event:
http://www.echobasenews.com
http://www.imperialshipyards.net
http://www.yakface.com
There is an Evolutions theme, based on the game, "The Old Republic " - in order to participate, please adhere to the following rules:
Rule #1 - In order to be eligible, all entries much have some sort of "Evolutions" theme (meaning all three need to be related to TOR), with three new custom figures entered into the contest that were made solely for this event. They must be posted in the dedicated thread in the forums at either http://www.echobaseforums.com, http://www.imperialshipyards.com, or http://www.yakfaceforums.com and be posted in the dedicated thread before the deadline, which is 11:59 PM Central Standard Time, Monday April 30, 2012.
Rule #2- You can make as many groups of figures as you want - but regardless of how many groups you create, they constitute as one entry. However, if you post your group of figures at all three sites, then you will be entered in three times for the prize pool. So it is in your benefit to post your entry into the dedicated thread at all three sites.
Rule #3 - After the end of this event, ONE GRAND PRIZE winner will be selected by a panel of judges at the Star Wars fan sites sponsoring this event. We will be as absolutely fair and unbiased as possible with this. The winning prize will be announced at the end of the contest. This item will be sent free of charge to winners within the United States . If the winner is international, shipping fees will apply.
Rule #4 - There will be THREE RUNNERS UP, which will be completely RANDOM winners. Each of these winners will get to select a prize from the "Random Winner" images below. The first runner up will get first pick from the prize pool. The second random winner will get to make the next selection, and the third winner will get what is left. These figures will be packaged and mailed free of charge in the United States , however if any random winners are international, shipping fees will apply.
Rule #5 - Staff members at any of the sponsoring sites can participate, but are not eligible to win a prize at any time.
Rule #6 - Even though there will be a grand prize winner selected for the customizer who "wows" the judges the most, the three random winners will be selected regardless of talent level - no custom is too good for this, and no custom is too bad.
Rule #7 - Have fun with it and enjoy seeing everyone's work and ideas - and remember that this is in the honor of one of our own who is no longer with us - Mike Martinez will never be forgotten by the customizing community and we are a better group for knowing him. This contest was already in the works with him running it prior to him being taken away from us and this is our little way of continuing his work.
Rule #8 - If anyone wants to donate their custom to be sold/auctioned to benefit Mike's family, please contact tamer@imperialshipyards.net
The prize pool is as follows:
The winners we be announced on (or around) Monday, May 7. The Grand Prize Winner will be announced at each site, and the Random Winners will be announced separately at each site. Please feel free to ask any questions in this thread, and we look forward to seeing the custom figures submitted for this - but remember, you must create THREE NEW CUSTOMS and post them to be eligible, and if you post them at all three sites, you will be eligible as a random winner THREE TIMES!
For convenience sake, the dedicated threads at each site to this event are as follows:

I have been after the idea of this for some time. I am quite excited about the prospect of teaming up with Yakface and Echobase News to make this a reality. I would like to thank both Justin, Jayson, and David for making all of this a reality. Trust me folks, there was a lot of legwork on this one. It is just daggone awesome to see this type of promotion of the customizing hobby in general.
-
This is a fantastic thing I think we're doing, and thanks to this site and Echobase for putting this together Yakface. Mike was a great guy and there's a void in the forums at Yakface without his presence, and I'm sure that's the same around here too.
I'm not eligible for this, but in Mike's honor I really wanted to make some customs for what I consider to be "his" customizing contest. I made a TOR style Sith Lord, Jedi, and Smuggler that I had started over Christmas.

Wow! Your reputation proceeds you Chewie, but those look daggone awesome.
-
Thanks Tamer, hopefully we see numerous entries in this. I can't wait to see more start rolling in.
-
I'm a bit confused, when you say "evolutions" style does that mean in the style of the game (to fit into an "old republic" universe)? or 3 figures that show a progressive "evolution" of the concept such as the hasbro "evolutions" 3 packs?
-

That's a valid question. Chewie's trio of figures looks just awesome, but I fail to see the 'evolutions' aspect of it. No big deal, I take it we have to make a trio of figures that fit in the Old Republic storyline, right?
I must say, I am very intrigued by this joint effort and you all know Mike's passing left quite an impression on the community, but also on me personally. I would very much like to participate in this event, but at this time I can't give a definitive yes or no. Thing is, I'm swamped at the office right now and I have some pressure building up in the customizing factory as well :-\
Luckily, this runs through April, so there's still time, but time's going fast.
-
This is great news! What a wonderful event you guys have cooked up in Mikes memory! I will be entering this one for sure it just may be closer to the end of the contest before I have my figures ready.
Awesome entry Chewie! and man was that quick work!
-
Our concept was to make these figures reflect The Old Republic as the theme, but I will check with my counterparts and get you some clarification folks.
-
That's a great question - my take is that it can be any sort of 3 figures with a TOR theme and we'd consider it to be eligible... it would be a bit hard to really make three figures "evolving" over time with a TOR theme. In a "pilot" for this a while back that wasn't made public, Mike had wanted it to be any 3 characters of a consistent theme, which we dubbed to be Evolutions... hope that makes sense?
And thanks for the nice words on the customs too. They were fun to make.
-
unfortunately I think your going to really limit your participation by requiring 3 customs... I know with my limited schedule and budget crunch there's no way for me to enter this contest. Also, I'm not big into the old republic style stuff... I've never read the books or played the games...
-
I am curious, do all three figures have to be brand new figures, or can one or two of them possibly be custom figures you have posted before?
-
Looking forward to attempting to tackle this project! :)
-

All 3 need to be new never before posted customs. And I know we have seen some great TOR Customs here lately, but we tried to set up a good time frame for folks to get three custom figures completed.
-

I am sad to hear that Devin as I do enjoy your customs. We did extend the time frame on this one for about one figure per month which I think is about right to be honest. As for the TOR theme, this was a custom contest that Mike had in the works with Yakface prior to his passing so they are just trying to finish this off right. I was honored they asked us to join in. And I too have not played the games nor read the books, but just seeing some customs folks here have completed like Spry's and Lucasclones' Vizlas and Dayton's Darth Malgus have certainly showed me how awesome these figures seem to be. Also go take a look on Youtube at the TOR Game Trailers (there are three I think) and tell me they don't look like some awesome characters. I loved the vid where Shan drops a mountain on Malgus!
-
Yeah, three brand new figures is what I think the goal is like Tamer mentioned...
Hopefully the time frame allows for enough people to get involved, as this thing goes on for over three months... and the figures can be fan fiction too... and keep in mind that in the game and media barrage for TOR, there's thousands of background characters and endless designs... with the TOR era having SO many different Sith, Jedi, etc., it seems like there is a VERY rich pool of ideas to pull from.
The game's narrated TIMELINE (http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/timeline) really can help inspire ideas too...
These images alone are very inspiring, I think... and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

There's a ton of very creative people here, so I'd be surprised if we don't see some very cool stuff. And keep in mind, the random winners are truly "random" so any talent level has a chance of winning there, and anyone who posts their custom entries here, at Echobase and at Yakface has an even better chance of being a random winner. One grand prize person will get the Sideshow Gree, which is one heck of a figure but the others will be random.
Heck, you can even design your own characters! (http://www.yakfaceforums.com/Chewie/designtor9.jpg)
Of note, I don't have the game, and probably will never get the opportunity to play it... sigh, if only it were on XBOX360 and not an online only game! But, I'm going to make at least a few more figures for the fun of this... maybe some TOR era smugglers or something.
-
Cool images CHEWIE, I haven't seen those.
Hey Devin, I could send you my latest issue of SW Insider which is full of TOR Characters if you would like. Man, just the cover with Malgus is killer.
I also just thought of something: for those that have the game you folks could create the character(s) you play as. I also think you get companion characters too and those would make awesome custom subject entries too. Maybe instead of sending out my magazine to just one person, I will try to scan and or take some pics of some of the images I have seen around the web and create a TOR Images section in the resource section to give folks some ideas. If I can find some spare time!
-
Seeing your message about the SW Insider with images gave me an idea: What if we started an open forum where people could post reference pics from TOR. That way we could gather ideas and inspiration for the contest?
Would this help anyone other than me?
-
I'll post some screen pics for you from the game...
-
The new forum has been started in CUSTOM CONTESTS. It is titled: Reference Pictures for TOR Combined Sites Custom Contest and here is the link:

-
Well now, what an even better idea. Roll on with it folks!
-
Great idea for the reference thread. I will take a look at it.
I apologize, in my rushed read of the contest rules I missed the extended date! That would be a lot better for whipping up three figures, I was used to the 1month deadlines we normally have!
I think this is a great way to honor his memory, to carry out a project that he thought of. I only hope that when my time comes I have a group of folks that care enough to remember me!
I'll take a look at the reference material... if a few ideas come to me... I might enter.
-
Thats great news Devin. I can imagine some of the poses you could make with your superarty skills!
-
Check the SWTOR official site's forum too. There are a few boards on fan art and concept art. And of course, we could post past customs as reference material.
-
Just a stupid question here...can the three customs be something like three Sith, two Jedi and a Sith, a Sith and two droids? Just trying to get a feel of where to go with my ideas.
-
This looks like a great comp wish I was going to be here to enter but I will be watching very closely, and good luck guys I can't wait to see what all of your creative juices come up with.

I have two entries, both from the Darth Bane novels (right on the edge of the TOR timeline). The first set of three consists of Lord Kaan, Darth Bane, and Githany from Path of Destruction.

Note: I'd posted photos of an older version of Darth Zannah and the Hasbro Bane on another website. These ones are slightly modified, but I'm not sure if this entry fully counts. If in doubt, consider my first entry to be my real entry for the contest.

very cool! simple, yet effective.

As long as its TOR its a go!

Great work! This is going to be another awesome contest.
-

Thanks. That's actually my philosophy when making customs. Partly it's a bit economical, but also partly because I want to make sure I keep the same spirit/style as Hasbro. I might try to redo Githany when I get time. I couldn't find a female with the type of long, flowing hair she has.

Try some of the Marvel line of characters. Kitty Pride? Black Widow? Also, there's that female character from the latest Pirates line of figures. I'm using her for some customs I'm hoping to have done soon. Stay on the look out for them.

Could you be more specific please?
I get the impression that the spirit of the contest is to make characters from the timeline/perspective of the mmorpg....as if they could be in that game or something like that? or is it just any character from any period of the republic prior to the prequel trilogy? For example, the previous entries regarding Darth Bane are from an "older" republic than what we see with Qui Gon and the Council in the movies but Bane wasn't even born until about 2400 years after the events in the mmorpg "the old republic" take place....so it seems like something of a grey area....
please advise?
-
I agree with Marev, having clearer boundaries would be quite helpful. While "The Old Republic" era spans millennia, I too was under the assumption it was about the timeframe of LucasArts/Bioware's new MMORPG.
-
This is the info I got over at Yakface:
darthcrassus wrote:
And does TOR include KOTOR and the Bane novels, or only the TOR MMO? If the latter, I actually haven't played TOR yet but will try to make something based off the promotional images I've seen. (Sorry for asking so many questions.)
Yep, it includes anything from the novels and games of that era, or of just your own imagination!
-
Just my two cents, so take it for what it might be worth, I would assume anything TOR would start around the time of the Darth Bane novels and move as far back as the beginning of the SW universe. I could be totally wrong, but that is the feeling I am getting. This would include Nomi Sunrider, Exar Kun, Cassus Fett, Revan, Malak, Bane, Satal and Aleema Keto, Marka Ragnos, etc... On Wookieepedia the TOR era begins around 25,053 BBY and ends around 1000 BBY. That covers A LOT of time and opens this contest to great deal of variety. I hope this helps and hope I have been accurate in my information. Good customizing to all!
-
Ok, my two cents. I believe the Old Republic should be up until the formation of the Empire. Just saying. Either way it does cover a LOT of material.

wow, so not really a theme at all, just kind of a vague date range then?

Well, both KOTOR (Knights of "the Old Republic") and Bane (the subtitle states: a novel of "the Old Republic") are explicitly set in the Old Republic era.

Correct, that was the intention. We wanted to keep the theme kind of broad to help encourage participation.
-

I definitely see it as a theme; just not a narrow one... as in this era (while broad), there's a lot of a design differences between that whole era and the prequel/OT/Legacy era.
And for anyone confused if a specific character falls in line as eligible, I don't think we're going to be too strict - everyone is free to use their imagination, etc. - and fan fiction characters are a great way to go about this; the ones I made before this launched were to help throw ideas out there for people who don't know the established characters in TOR and might feel it's easier to try and make something from their own imagination. Maybe create a few cool looking ancient droids, Mandalorians from the TOR design style, Jedi with the "look" of TOR, etc.

i guess my concern is the above, which states the contest is "an Evolutions theme, based on the game, The Old Republic". So, that seems fairly straight forward. However, the rules as written are now being reinterpreted as to be based on the Time period of "The Old republic"...this is a vastly different thing as it spans roughly 24000 years of Star Wars history...I just find it makes me uneasy to read stated "rules" saying one thing, and then being executed as something else.
Maybe it's just my OCD talking.
-
When this was in the early stages, Mike had wanted an Evolutions theme contest to have some sort of a theme, but not too narrow that it might limit participation. I guess we didn't explain that well enough, which is my fault.
So, as long as there's a TOR tie in, I think that's all that is being asked of any participants. For example, if you take into account that characters such as Darth Malak and Darth Revan have a lot of exposure in the timeline on the official TOR game website, in my view, this reference helps open the freedom to customizers that we are hoping to grant.
Hopefully things are more clear now. We're not trying to evolve the rules; just explain them a little better.
-
I'll try to get something done. I have a bunch of stuff on my plate as it is, so I'll really have to push myself to actually work on them, it's it's for Mike, so I have to at least give it a go.
-
Oh, yeah! A TOR "Evolutions" Contest, very spiffy. So I got a question, how many pics are allowed? I know Yakfinites allows 5 for their contest, but since this is the first international contest I'm clueless on how many pics can be entered.
Also, good luck to all!

Yes, for this contest thread, five pics per entry sounds pretty good to me. I will get with my other Site counterparts and get you a clearer number though. I would think one close up of each figure and two group pics would be great though (or any combination for that matter). Ofcourse as far as your individual custom thread goes you can have as many there as you want folks.
And CHEWIE thanks for helping clarify things in my absence, I appreciate it.
I can't wait to see what folks create!

Still need to finish the other two and then I'll post all three together in this thread so I don't clutter it up.
pure blood Sith?
Yes, Sith Pureblood. :)

For clarification, can you post the SAME set of three on each site, or does it need to be a DIFFERENT set of three for EACH site?
Like this: Or this:
Jedi, Smuggler, Droid 1 on Site A Jedi, Smuggler, Droid 1 on Site A
Jedi, Smuggler, Droid 1 on Site B Sith, Bounty Hunter, Droid 2 on Site B
Jedi, Smuggler, Droid 1 on Site C Trooper, Commando, Droid 3 on Site C
Sorry if this has been answered already.

It can be the same three...doesn't have to be three different sets of customs
-
Botwt is correct. It can be the same submission at all three sites and entering at all three sites just gives you an extra chance to win.
-
That's excellent work on that Clone head, Botwt! And the painted version really makes it work. Great choice!
-
I'm brainstorming a few ideas. Good thing this goes into April...it may take me that long. I've never made a real custom before (although I did once make a Corran Horn out of an Obi-Wan figure by coloring his robes green with permanent marker), so I'm going to take my time. Here's a little hint as to what the three figures will be, though:
-
Here is another question: Do we have to use just the handful of alien races available in the TOR game, or are any of them viable as long as the overall theme looks like it would fit into the TOR theme? I may be overthinking things, but I am super excited for this contest (even tho I've never played the game) and wanna have all my ducks in a row.
-
Darth Optimus, you can use any reference material or your imagination for you own original figure, so this thing is wide open!
-
Not only is this contest bringing out a lot of creativity, but a lot of questions as well.
-
Well, here are my three...Sith Pureblood Inquisitor, Aqualish Sith Warrior and a prototype T7 Astromech

More pictures on my blog at http://botwtswfigures.wordpress.com/ (http://botwtswfigures.wordpress.com/)

Well done. Excellent entry!
-
Very nice. That astro build up is sweet looking!
-
Man that is an awesome entry botwt! Very well done on all 3!
-
Botwt you have really raised the bar on this contest. I am absolutely flabbergasted by your TOR Astro, but llike the rest as well.

Thank you guys! :)

THIS IS MY ENTRY!
The Thunderian Jedi Master Jha'gurr, the Kyuzo smuggler Kurg and his trust droid RA-22g "Deuce". During a mission to the Outer Rim, the Thundercat Jedi saved the life of the smuggler known oly as Kurg from a group of bloodthirsty Space Pirates. Kurg swore a life-debt to the Jedi and ever since he has been the Jedi Master's loyal pilot. Kurg and his trusty droid Deuce pilot the "Brightest Moon" to deliver Jha'gurr on his missions for the Jedi Council.
The Thunderian Jedi Master Jha'gurr is a blood member of the ruling Thundercat tribe, in addition to being a top-level operative for the Jedi Council . A master swordsman, his inate feline physiology give him a swiftness and dexterity nearly unmatched within the Order. His laser sword hilt is crafted from pure Thundrainium, a rare super-strong an lightweight metal found only on Thundera. The end opposite the blade emitter is crafted into a mace, which he weilds with startling precision.

The Kyuzo called Kurg was a "free-lance transporter"...which is another way of saying "smuggler". He never ran weapons, slaves or spice, preferring to ship only what he considered "moral". That doesn't mean he was soft though, being a master shot with both his ballistic-firing sniper rifle and the matched sidearms strapped to his thighs. Like most of his species he refuses to speak Basic, and relies on his droid for those who need translating.

The droid RA-22g is an early model security droid designed to be stationed at Republic bases throughout the galaxy. The RA series are well equipped for battle, most often equipped with a dual-barrel heavy blaster on one side and a concussion grenade launcher on the other. Deuce has also been retrofitted with a heavy-duty flamethrower, shock-net launcher and sheild generator. While not technically an astromech, Deuce can hold up to four hyperspace coordinates in memory and is a decent cook.

Just three figures total.

Darth Optimus' update is on the front page. Man, I really like that Astro that goes with his three entries.
-
Oh my Darth! That is a stunning entry! So well done on all 3 figures! I LOVE that astromech! Very creative parts choices to make a new astromech design. Very well done on your entry!
-
Thanks, everyone! I have to go back and check the settings on my camera, apparently. The some of the pics are fuzzy for no good reason. The Thundercat Jedi is a straight-up repaint of a Tigra, with a custom built lightsaber. The Kyuzo is a bash: Embo head, upper torso, upper arms and hands. Lower arms, lower legs, holsters and hat are from a Cad Bane. The lower legs are from a Prince Xizor, with feet from a Boba Fett. The vest is from a ROC Mars Trooper from GI Joe. The droid is a full-on bash. The head is a jetpack from a Boba, the body is from a R4-D4 (the exploding one) from POTF2, feet are from BAD parts. The backpack is a backpack from a CORPS! space trooper that I've had in the parts bin for a decade. The weapons are random bits, held in place with the ends of syringe caps. He's got a mohawk from one of the Jedi research droids from Episode 2, and various car model bits and pieces as greeblies.

I've done that but how do you resize pictures to the right size?
You will need some type of photo editing program or you can load them to a free photo hosting site like www.photobucket.com and they will give you an [img] code that you can then paste directly into a reply post.

Since I help run the Yakfinities roundup over at Yakface.com, these are just for inspiration and not official entries. I had to get in on this project however, and after a lot of thought I knew what I wanted to try to do.
My friend Martin has been working on a Star Wars film for 10 years, and ever since I saw a rough cut I've been wanting to do customs of the main characters. I acutally met Martin through a friend, and the story goes that they met at film school when Martin walked up, introduced himself and immediately asked "So do you like Star Wars?"
I didn't get to know Mike very well, but I was a big fan of MercuryArtsStudio's work, and we'd traded comments on each others figures and I was always honored when he complimented my work. I'd like to consider these figures a toast to all the friends Star Wars has made, for me and for everyone, online and out in "the real world." What Star Wars is has changed over the years and will continue to change, but it's always been more than just a movie or a hobby. And whatever else it may be, it's formed many long lasting friendships. I'm grateful for that, and all the people it's introduced into my life.
At any rate, here are some of the characters from Martin's film, Hunt for the Holocron (http://www.huntfortheholocron.com/). While I don't think it has a specific spot in the Star Wars timeline, it has always had a very Old Republic feel to it, and the designs lend themselves well to that era. You can click on each one to find the part recipes at my site!

Dan, you echo many of my sentiments for how SW has added to my life too.
Your custom character sure do seem like the fit the timeline to me too. Those Jedi are just outstanding. Your other characters are nice too, such crisp paint apps. Thanks for sharing them.
I need to find that film now that I see these custom figures.
-
Well done Dan...really liking each and every one of them! :)
-
Dan I have to agree, we have all made some great friends through this hobby. It is so much fun and most of us just want to spread the love and help others when we can.
I always love seeing your work and this group is some serious inspiration. I too really like each one. They all look like great original characters! Nice work Dan!
-
Ok. Well, this has been in the works for some time now. Even before this contest began. These are dedicated to my family and friends from whom I have received inspiration.
The Nisan family is an old Jedi family. They were one of the last families of the Jedi Order before reforms disallowed Jedi families and extreme detachment became part of Jedi doctrine. Sep Nisan was not a Jedi Guardian too long when Endy Kepo achieved Knighthood. They were assigned to work together on several missions. Eventually, the two fell in love, married and had a baby. Their daughter, Marianna, was strong in the Force. Sep and Endy both became Sentinels about the time Marianna was able to travel with them as their Padawan.
-
But wait there's more. Instead of a trio of Republic Era characters, I've made a trio of trios.
A bit of a rogue, Sep Nisan was still considered a candidate for the Nisan Clan Council. The Nisan Clan included both Force-sensitive and non-Force-sensitive members. There was harmony in the clan regardless of the issues of the galaxy after the Treaty of Coruscant. Sep often questioned actions of the Council as it, at times, conflicted with tenets of the Jedi Order. He could only do what was expected of him on his missions for the Order.
Order was always a part of Endy’s life. Organization was second nature to her as she would conduct her life and role as a Jedi with precision and attention to detail. Few had reason to question her. Her reputation would precede her and many situations were easily resolved when many heard Endy Nisan was on her way.
-
And here's the last trio. Enjoy!
Mac, as was Marianna’s nickname, grew to become a powerful Jedi. She was given many missions that earned her the respect of her parents, the Jedi Council, and even the Sith. On her early travels, she befriended a Twi’lek smuggler by the name of Osta’zes. Mac wondered if Osta was Force-sensitive as well. Osta always was in the right place to help pull Mac out of many situations.
Decades after the attack on the Jedi Temple, the Sith still clashed with Jedi on various planets along the Republic/Imperial borders. Many of these were led by Sith warlords. Among them, Darth Shrotan was one of the most ruthless. Darth Shrotan became a nemesis of the Nisan family. He was responsible for attacks on the home planet of the Nisan clan, killing some notable Jedi. Mac took to ridding the galaxy of Darth Shrotan but was warned by her parents to tread carefully because they felt her quest would take her to the Dark Side.
-
One last pic.

WOW, all are very impressive!! Well done mate!! :)
-
Wow, Minstrel. What a great group. I hate to make you pick among which group you want to be your official entry. I love that Twilek.
On the front page with a contest reminder. Thank you for participating.
-
An awesome set of figs, JediMinstrel! the storylines are great; they really tie your custom work to the characters you developed.
-
Awesome work! The back stories really bring to life what you've created here! Good luck on the contest if you're entering!

Thank you. It may take me a couple of days to pick the three. So far, I'd say the Twi'lek is one of them. I'll take a pick of the final three. Glad you like them.
-
Works for me, what I wouldn't give to see all the participants in this get together at CVI and put all of these custom figures together in some sort of diorama built for the event. Alas, little dreams there is no way to work out.
I will tell you one thing, I am really proud of how the Yarders have jumped into this one with both feet and are just producing some quality customs.
-
Tamer...
Little dreams can come true too! I think it would be awesome if we were to one day have a custom convention. It would be amazing. Show off our customs in person. Meet each other. Share tips and tricks. It would be great...
Always in motion the future is...
-
Mungo,
That is an awesome idea too. I think one could organize all kinds of things as far as panels and different things to share too.
-
JM those are all awesome!! And Mungo - what a great idea, perhaps I could couple it with a trip to the States!!
Here's an extremely early WIP shot of my three figures (all are based on our actual in game characters)
1. Jedi Guardian T'aaylorr
2. Old Republic Commando Hudson
3. Smuggler Gunslinger Nu'anna-Shan
(http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z279/red5_album/fad7edbb.jpg)
More to follow when I have chance to actually do some work on them!
WB Out!!!
-
Ray, those look cool. I would love to see side by side comparison pics of the in game shot with your finished custom for each one if that is possible. No doubt they will be dead ringers, well excuse the word dead as they are your online characters whom I know you wish to have long happy lives.
You couldn't have used a better base too. Wonderful. I will be using one of your pics to shout out the contest again today.
I guess there is a little over a month until contest submission deadline so, not that I am complaining about what we have had so far as it was just outstanding, I hope this thread just explodes. I seem to be using the word just a lot this morning. Anyhow, hands down I think the Yarders have just rocked this contest and I am proud of everyone as I do so hope to see this type of combined sites thing continue well into the future with perhaps even new sites added next year. Poor CHEWIE had his hands full with going over details and points from what Sites are involved this time, but it really is so nice to just see some sites set aside the unspoken competition that seems to run rampant among some places and just enjoy a good ole fashioned fun figure fest, if I can describe our contest as such. I think Mike has a big ole smile on his face up there now.
-
Very nice Ray, look forward to seeing how these all turn out! :)
-
Really having a hard time coming up with something for this contest. Partly because I don't know enough about the game, and the other issue I'm having is the wrong type of fodder to pull this off. I may have to sit this one out, but I'm hoping I can pull something off at the last minute. The entries so far are awesome!
-
I may have to sit this one out, but I'm hoping I can pull something off at the last minute.
I sure hope so Brian. I was looking forward to seeing what you were cooking up. I think Elias could create something awesome too. The great thing about this contest is all entrants will be put into the random contest prize entries.
-
Well, I finally made my decision. Here is my official entry.
-
Well, I finally made my decision. Here is my official entry.
Really awesome!
-
Excellent job on these three!! :)
-
This is my entry...
First up is Darth Stygius the Dark Lord of Gloom. Very little is know about Stygius' background and even fewer know what he looks like under his mask. Some believe he is hiding a hideous disfigurement, while other circulated rumors convey a very different story. It was thought that people believed his appearance to pleasant to be a Sith and he was un-intimidating. Either way, Stygius is a powerful Sith Lord who celebrates the fall of his enemies and intends to do whatever it takes to bring an end to the Jedi Order.

Second is Gen'Ral or "Gen" for short. Gen was a simple freighter captain / smuggler until the Sith returned. While away delivering a shipment his wife and daughters were killed in Sith fleet bombardment of the moon where they lived. With a past that included military training and weapons smuggling Gen is out to find whatever revenge he can on anyone loyal to the Sith and any part of it's empire. Gen is an expert with almost any weapon but his favorite is the knife he keeps in his belt. Many stories circulating the core say he has killed more people with his knife than with a blaster.

Rossh Darna is the last living heir to the Darna family from Alderan. After the Sith attacked Rossh spent days recovering from his injuries in an underground safe house. He waited for as long as he could after the attack began, but was the only one who made it to the shelter. Months after the attack he sank a huge portion of his families wealth into the fastest and most heavily armed ship he could find and roamed the core trying to find a way to strike back at the Sith for the loss of his family. Then Rossh met Gen. After trading stories they decided that two blasters are better than one. Sith beware!

thanks ^^ may the force be with you
Lol, you pretty much just did a better job of what I'm going to do. Except the private. In fact, I was planning on making that exact commando...but in different colors. Anyway, my entries should be in sometime after next Monday. I won't be going until the store until then and that's when I'm buying the paint. Good job!

Never mind! Found some good paint in my basement! So here we go! ;D
Ruckus Squad

Lt. Colonel Anik Ryder
Anik grew up on the world Corellia and dreamt of joining CorSec. When his brother, Biggs, turned eighteen, he went to join the Republic army. Biggs was killed, and Anik joined the Republic to take up his brother's cause after serving for two years in CorSec. He hopes to one day return to Corellia after the war with the Empire is over.

Commando Captain Blake
A simple man, Blake did not join the army for some great cause. He merely joined because his friends joined, and he wanted to be with them. However, when his entire unit was wiped out, Blake became determined to take vengeance on the Imperials that killed his friends.

Corporal Ennes
Corporal Ennes is best described as "a simple man trying to make his way in the universe." He joined the Republic army only because it paid, and he was very secluded for many years. Only recently, after being transferred to Ruckus Squad, does he begin to open up.

-
Cool, What are you going to turn it into?
-
This guy Mando - haha finished one!!
Here is General T'aaylorr - a Jedi Guardian. This is a representation of my own TOR character in the late 40's levels. This character is a 'tank' for those who play MMOs. He gets up close and takes the brunt of the enemies attacks. Hope you like him - I'm hoping to still have time to get the other two done as well!!

The legs are from the River Phoenix young Indy in the Boy Scout uniform.
Thanks for the kind words dr0d26.
-
Outstanding entry! :)
-
Awesome group Ray. You have got to be pretty proud of these. I would love to see some in game footage of these characters if you ever got the chance. Just great work.
-
That is another great entry! This has turned out to be a great event!
-
Those legs almost look like RoboCop legs.
-
Well this is the last full week for this contest, I wonder if we will see any new entrants?
This has been a fabulous contest and one I hope we can do again.

I too have really enjoyed this event! Great entries all around!

Can we post our contest figs on our custom threads. :-\
-
Can we post our contest figs on our custom threads. :-\
Without speaking out of turn, it was my impression that they were supposed to be posted here first and then you could post them elsewhere. However, I could be totally wrong.
Anyone else have a better understanding?
-
What Mungo said!
I thought the idea was to debut them on the contest thread first, then anywhere else! :)
-
Yes, now that the contest is over you can post them where ever you like.
-
This is my entry for the contest.First here is my smuggler.

Well done clonedenal!! :)
-
Nice entry Denal. Time to get a last day announcement on the fp and use your pic as the fp pic for said reminder.
-
Cool entries! ;)
-
We were pretty slow to get our entry in. The biggest reason was that we had grand plans, but fell short on execution. Even though we were given several months to complete this project, things just never quite came together in the way that we hoped. We did get to create three fun action figures, just not the ones we thought we were going to create. If the contest wasn't for Mercury Art Studios we probably would have skipped on entering, but we are putting the figures we created up for auction to help out his family.

CONTEST ENTRY

THE GOOD
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rKqr-t_dn_0/T58Rwzbj0JI/AAAAAAAAEgc/HmdCRvio3D0/s320/good2.jpg)
This Nautolan female was one heck of a pilot. She was transporting a Jedi with an important mission when they were shot down over an unknown planet. They are being hunted by the HK-47 assassin droid that shot down her vessel.
THE BAD
(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ErEbrsbkX0g/T58Rxq_1oKI/AAAAAAAAEgk/MFudRc9ZrdQ/s320/the+bad.jpg)
HK-47 was a Hunter-Killer assassin droid and Jedi hunter. The HK-47 droid disguised himself in clothing to conceal his identity.
THE UGLY
(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MLCvne6Idm0/T58RyHJS8lI/AAAAAAAAEgs/h95dcGchcm8/s320/the+ugly.JPG)
The Jedi's face was horribly disfigured and he wears a mask to hide his unsightly appearance.

WOW! Simple but really effective customs! Great job. ;D
-
WOW! Simple but really effective customs! Great job. ;D
I concur! Well done mate! :)
-
Cool motiff with the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. That is still one of my favorite westerns.
I am extremely pleased by the work we have seen here. I will get the entrants garnered for our site and then we can commence the random drawings.
Understand that from here on out, if you do post an entry, it will not count towards said prizes. Darth Daddy was the last official entrant. I would just lock this down, but want to keep the comments flowing.
-
Great last minute entry. Glad you were able to put something together for this event!
-
Thanks guys! They aren't much compared to these other entries, but glad you all liked them just the same. Can't believe all these cool entries :o
-
I went through all of these yesterday and have the entry pool ready for ISY! Stay tuned to this thread for the prize announcements!
-
What a great contest, the wrap up will be fun!
;)
-
I can't wait to find out the results myself.
-
Still on pins and needles waiting to hear an update about this contest.
-
I am quietly meditating on the subject.
-
Trust me, we haven't forgotten about the prizes. We are almost ready to announce things. Almost! :D
-
Oh it just isn't about the prizes. I guess it is the sense of closure, the feedback, the wrap-up, and everything. This was a pretty big event. Just eager to hear the overall results, etc...
Although prizes are extremely fun...:P
-
Yeah, this was a resounding success. I really have to credit CHEWIE with doing some fabulous work on not only organizing most of this, but his wrap up is definitely nice.
-
Awesome!

Last summer, the Star Wars fan community lost one of its most spirited customizers, Mike Martinez, known around the forums as Mercuryartstudios.
In his honor, three fan sites came together to realize a customizing contest that he had been working on, and the participation was amazing. We would like to thank the customizing community for such a strong showing in this multi-site customizing tribute to our friend that we miss so much. The theme was anything related to SWTOR, and entries could be fan fiction, etc. but did need to include three figures. It was basically a "loose interpretation" of an Evolutions theme for SWTOR.
In no particular order, here's a roundup of all the amazing entries...

Once the deadline for the contest had passed, we had a difficult time choosing a grand prize winner, but our consensus was that the first place winner should be forum member Wookie Balls - congratulations to him for his amazing custom entries, and for his prize - a Sideshow Commander Gree!
After that, three random winners were selected. They are as follows:
1st Random Winner - Revanfan1
2nd Random Winner - Botwt
3rd Random Winner - JediMinstrel
In order to claim the prizes, Revanfan1 will first need to post in the forum which prize he has selected from the prize pool. After he makes his selection, Botwt will post his selection, and then JediMinstrel will receive the remaining prize. You will each be contacted by a sponsor of the contest to make shipping arrangements.
NOTE - Since Hasbro's distribution woes continue, the Republic Tank is not available yet. Whoever chooses that prize will be contacted by the contest sponsors to discuss arrangements. We will certainly work with you if you prefer a substitute prize.
Thank you again everyone for your participation, and if the support is there, we may look to doing another joint contest in the future.

Amazing entries!! Those are just entirely AWESOME pieces! I have no doubt Mike would have been pleased by the participation. I wish I'd had the time to participate, but I content myself with oogling the fantastic creations!
-
:o Oh my good gosh... Really?? Wow! Thank you so much! It was an amazing competition to be part of and all of the entries were fantastic (I know who my personal favourites were!)
It was great to be part of something done in Mike's honour as well - the competition brought together the community as a whole and I was proud to be part of that too.
Thank you once more,
Kindest Regards
Ray (Wookie-Balls)
-
Nice entries! I personally like Botwt's entries.
-
Congrats to everyone on jobs well done!
-
Oh my, I just love Chewies wrap ups on all the contests and Yakfinities! Great collection of customs here! Hat's off to everyone who entered.
-
Congrats to everyone and to the winners!
-
Wow!!! I am greatly honored by the recognition of my customs. My hat is off to my fellow customizors. Great contest and I look forward to see what other contests come along. The greatest inspiration for mine was the birth of our daughter. If you read the back story on mine, you'll see that she was the central part of the stories. You may see further adventures of Marianna.
-
I think everyone that participated in this contest did an extremely awesome job and each of you inspire me to get better each time I try to tackle a custom. Congrats to all the participants and to the winners of this contest!! :)
I am very honored to have been chosen as one of the winners...you guys truly humble me when you comment on my work, and now that I've been chosen as a winner I am nearly speechless. Thank you so very much for thinking my work was worthy of a winning selection! :)
-
Congrats guys, and thanks for making this such a success! I have to say, the ISY members really stepped up to the plate especially!
Wookieballs, we'll need to get your address, if you haven't been contacted yet, you can email me at rykrofenloe@yahoo.com so we can get that Sideshow Gree sent your way!
Revanfan1, please post in the forums at the site(s) which random prize you are selecting and then botwt can post in the forums which random prize he wants, and then jediminstrel will receive the other random prize... remember, these are the random prizes:

Congrats Ray, your entries were very nice as were everyone's in my opinion. It was really nice to see such great participation across Sites like this and I think this just sends a great message across the board(s) so to speak.
I am waiting to see who has posted where on the random prizes and I can ship ours off accordingly.

-
Great job everyone these entries are AMAZING!

Revanfan1's prize will be away tomorrow!
-
I know what that leaves for me. Cool! I already have a couple of ideas for it.
-
Revanfan1, please post in the forums at the site(s) which random prize you are selecting and then botwt can post in the forums which random prize he wants, and then jediminstrel will receive the other random prize... remember, these are the random prizes:
Don't forget guys you need to post in the contest thread for the forums that is hosting these random prizes and I do apologize for not making it a bit clearer. ISY's contribution was the Sith Infiltrator and Darth Maul which Revanfan1 picked and I am putting in the mail today.
Botwt wants the Republic Tank and At-Rt Driver so he would post over in Echo Base Forums (Here is the hyperlink (http://echobase.d2i.net/index.php?topic=810.0))
And then Jedi Minstrel gets the last prize of the AAT and Battle Droid which would entail a post over at Yakface Forums (Here is the hyperlink (http://www.yakfaceforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6754))
I hope that made it a bit clearer. Sorry we didn't spell that out a bit better. Botwt, I know the Republic Tank isn't out yet so one of us will contact you in regards to picking out a prize of your choice that is comparable.
If any of the remaining random prize winners, Botwt and Jedi Minstrel haven't been conatcted once they make their forum posts in a few days, let me know and I can contact the site heads that were responsible for those random prizes. I promise you folks we will get you your prizes.
-
once again, *outstanding* work everyone! (and that includes the staff behind the curtains who've pulle it all together! we appreciate you guys!)
-
Thanks Doc, this one involved a bit more legwork, but I do agree it was so worth it.
When everyone gets their prizes I would love to hear about it hear and a pic would be even better.
-
I got my Darth Maul and Sith Infiltrator today! 8)
I opened both and assembled the Infiltrator, having a little bit of trouble with the landing gear, but I figured it out. Now I have it sitting behind Maul, who is posed dueling Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. lvva
I'd like to thank you guys again!
-
Great, would love to see a pic of it in action!
