Hey Everyone,
I'm new to the site, but not to the sport. Here are some pics of my custom cruiser playset/diorama that I've been working on. I'm always adding to it, but I think that I'm going to move away from this for a while and make a huge Jedi Temple Playset. My kids love playing with this thing and it's extremely durable.
I have too many pics to post here, so here is the link to my build - http://republicship.blogspot.com/
And here is a teaser photo
Let me know what you think,
Thanks,
Ryan

First of all welcome to the Shipyards. I can't wait to see more of your work.
Second, you are on our front page.

Even More

Still More
-
This might be all of them, I think.
-
All right that's it for pictures unless you head over to my blog and see the earlier versions. Now for the pictures......
I have Ray Shielded Doors, a Cargo Bay that will hold two of the jedi starfighters, a vent that goes from one room into the clone barracks under a bed, the hologram table in the comm room actually lights up, and there is also an elevator that travels from the barracks to the engine room. I was thinking about making a door with orange and red markings like a jedi was trying to cut through it. Bottom line this thing is tough and durable, but suprisingly light for having three levels. My kids and I play all the time, and when we're done I take it back out to the garage. It's literally the size of my kitchen table, and is a 360 degree playset, so we can all play at the same time. Please let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions.
Thanks,
Ryan

In one of the shots you can actually see that there is a med bay with two clones laying down. I even have the med droid, just didn't have him in there when i took the picture. I took most of these while my daughter was picking out the figures she wanted to play with that day. Thanks for the cudos. I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys making these.

Wow, what a great new set of pics. I absolutely think that armory is spectacular. I can't wait to see your next build.

Oh yeah, that is a great looking dio already!
-
Alright folks,
I'm sure you're all chomping at the bite to see what I'm gonna load into this place.....Well....
As you can see I've already started on the Jedi Archives (I.E. Jedi Library) That will actually be 2 floors, there will be a balcony with more bookshelves above. I am also adding a Meditation Room, Jedi Training Room (Where Yoda trained the youndlings in AOTC), Briefing/Comm Room as seen in ROTS after Anakin meditates with Yoda, a Holocron Vault (that may even light up as to accomidate my holocron toy from (holocron Heist), Of course the Jedi Council Chamber that will actually be a round room above everything else, accessable by turbolift, and I'm even trying to work in a hanger bay to house my jedi starfighters. Oh yeah, and there will be a 2 floor main hallways with balconies as seen in ROTS after Anakin attackes the temple.
If you have any suggestions or ideas that would better suit the temple please let me know and I'll see if it would be easier or more popular than what I have planned.
And again, please stay tuned as this build progresses because it will be epic or lengen......wait for it.......dary!

WOW!!! Awesome work, the floor looks smoothly together and so do the book cases. Nice Job.
-
looking fantastic so far, great skills!
-
This is sweet and is now on the front page.
How I wish Hasbro would make us things like this, if even just out of cardboard! Thank you for sharing it with us and I am really enjoying your work.
-
Looks awesome! Your cuts are very crisp and gives a very profesional look. Thanks for sharing!
-
Definitely impressed! You've done wonders with the materials you chose; I'm now really interested in how the rest of this turns out.
-
Hey everyone,
First let me start out by saying thank you to everyone who commented and offered praise, that is a major driving force of not rushing this and keeping everything sharp.
Updates:
I did a little more work today. I got the second floor built complete with those bookshelves as well. I also added the support columns to the first floor, and I'm working on the second floors columns. Granted these aren't really support columns for the dio itself, but are like the ones seen in the movie. For any of you following along or trying this at home. A good reference point or suggestion is to make each of your floors or levels 6 inches tall. That offers a decent height for the figures without wasting too much space.
The Columns:
I personally used PVC tubing I had in the shop, each piece cut to 6 inches, and then I wrapped them in Foil Tape that you would use for duct work. It made them look really shiney and really pop! Once those were covered they get glued into the front of each set of shelves giving the appearence that this is all one big shelf on each row. I still might mod the back area of the library if I add the Holocron vault, because as we've seen in TCW the holocron vault is off of the library, but i'm just not sure how I want to do it yet. I'll have some more pictures up tomorrow for you all to see, and I think you'll all be pretty pleased.
Thanks again,
Ryan

Alright everyone, as you can see by the pictures I've done a lot of work today. I finished the columns on the second level, put the details around the lower columns, and even added a railing. Believe me my hand is killing me from cutting out all of those holes in the railing. I still have to add the computer terminal table, columns for the lsot 20 busts, and of course the busts themselves. Let me know what you think of the updates.

Still more pics

OMG this is too AWESOME!!!!!! ;D Great Job!

LOL. Well I seem to be pun happy lately, but this is just an awesome creation and is sporting its' new look on the front page.
-
wow man!! that looks outstanding.. 0/

Hey everyone,
didn't get as far as I wanted today, spent most of my morning doing a materials hunt. Here is what I was able to accomplish. The lost 20 busts are done, or in my case, the lost 6. LOL
I also began work on the Main Hall outside of the Library. I got the walls covered, floor down, and two pillars up. The floor is actually some peel and stick tiles. The pillars are made out of PVC tube of various sizes. I'll be adding another whole side to the hall as I expand the temple in all it's glory.
Hope you like what you see.
-
That's really cool.

AWESOME

-
Love the update and the reflective duct tape looks great! You are going all out as the title suggest. Very nice work.
-
Hey everyone,
Sorry I've been slacking on some new pictures, but I have gotten some more done. The main hall outside of the Library is almost done and I've begun construction of the Training room or veranda where yoda was lightsaber training the younglings in AOTC. I should have some more pics up tomorrow, just been busy with work and didn't have a chance to post them.
Stay tuned.
-
By the way I ordered my jedi council figures from various sources this week and my wife tells me some of them have already arrived, so I will have a complete jedi council chamber with chairs. I'm so stoked.
-
As I hope you can see this project has most of us stoked! I can't wait to see what the new update shows us. This is one dio build for the history books. Thank you for sharing it with us.
-
Alright all,
I may have been slacking about updates yesterday, but I rocked them today. The main hall is almost complete, I just about finished the veranda, and meditation rooms, and I have gotten about half way on the briefing room. As stated the briefing room will be two stories just like in the movie, so I still have to build the stairs and benches. I also have to make the stairs leading from the main hall to the upper balconies and from the hall to the main enterance. I also have to still make the little couches that go in the meditation room. After that is all wrapped up I will start on the next level which will hopefully be the docking bay for jedi starfighters, and then the actual council chamber. This has been a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work. Well here are some more pics to keep you going.
Later

The last of todays work. I'm out of labels, so I'll have to get some more tomorrow. I gotta work tonight, so it's off to bed.
Thanks again
-
Wow. What can I say that I haven't said? Just awesome.
Back on the front page.
-
WHOA! OMG! AMAZING!!!
-
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!! ELIAS AND I LOVE IT!!
REALLY HONORED YOU ASKED US TO CREATE THE YOUNGLINGS FOR THIS!!
-
Hey everyone,
Glad you're all liking the updates. I'm sorry but I won't have any today. I just got my wife a new elliptical and let me tell you it was more of a workout getting that thing in the house and putting it together than actually using it. I'll finish up the briefing room tomorrow and probably being construction of the council chamber as well. I think I'm going to have to forgo the starfighter docking bay otherwise this thing won't fit through a door in my house. :( Maybe I'll build it as an add on piece that can sit somewhere attached to the temple to still play with. I'm gonna rest my torn MCL now and play some xbox 360, well old xbox games. I just ordered and should also be getting Star wars knights of the old republic I & II today. Since this is my first time owning an XBox i've never gotten to play these games, and they were exclusive, so I'm pretty stoked being a Star Wars Fanatic, but then again, i guess we all are or we wouldn't be here.
Thanks again, and I'll have some more tomorrow for you all.
Ryan
-
Great stuff. this is really looking AMAZING.
And have fun with KOTOR I & II. The best SW games, if not two of the best RPGs ever made, period!
Don't play too much, because we're all foaming at the mouth to see what you're going to do with this!!
-
Hey everyone,
So as i said earlier, I took yesterday off, but I was back at it today as promised so I could bring you all some more great updates. I have ust about finished the Briefing Room, and have begun construction on the Jedi Council Chamber, and yes I figured out how to fit it in, the Jedi Starfighter Hanger. It will actually be big enough to hold not one, but two jedi starfighters. I know, I know, the layout of the real temple was much different having the chamber at the highest point, but for the sake of the playset, and the ability to move it through a doorway in my house, I'm doing it this way. I did get the chamber set with all the different council members, but I think the only thing I'm going to use from them are the chairs. We'll take a look at the pics and tell me how it's progressing.
Thanks again,
Ryan
-
Hope you all like.
-
That is my kind of diorama! excellent use of decals, everything looks perfectly applied and really well put together.
I love the layout and playability of the set. Great for us big kids to drool over!
-
Wow. Back on the front page. What can I say that I haven't already.
-
Great Work !!!
I can`t wait to see it finished at all......perfect!
-
awesomeness!!
-
Do you use hot glue? I'm trying to look for a different adhesive for foamcore cuz when I use hot glue it pushes my boards apart when it dries.

Yes I use hot glue, but I use a Multi-Temp glue in a lower temp gun which keeps the hot glue from getting too hot, causing it to cool faster and expand less as it cools. Since I started using this stuff I haven't had a problem. You can find it at a Hobby Lobby or even Walmart. You would also need to be careful on how much glue your using. The multi-temp stuff works great and I only have to put a thin bead of this stuff on what I'm working on, so i don't have to worry about globs everywhere or crazy expansion.
Hope that helps.
-
I sooo Want one, but I have no where to put it......no wait yes i do. great work dude.

Hey everyone,
Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been a little busy, and then had my birthday. I did get more accomplished and should have some more pictures up soon. I just about completed the Council Chamber, Starfighter Dock, and I even made the grand staircase from the entrance to the upper floor balconies and lower main hall. I am even working on the outside of the temple, and it should have the 4 big block statues at the entrance. I'll keep you posted, and if anyone needs any tips or help, don't hesitate to hit me up.
Ryan
-
Well Happy Birthday. You sure have stirred up quite the interest with this diorama and your updates. Awesome build.
-
OMG first time seeing this!!!
pure awesome what can i say besides how much :P
seriously tho, this is great and i wish i had the talent/imagination to pull something like this off, really great job. Question tho, and i looked thru all the previous pages and didn't see anything but maybe i missed it, do you make the decals yourself cuz they're absolutlely stellar and wouldn't be the playset it is without them.

I know, I know. I'm slacking on updates. I did get some more stuff done, just haven't gotten around to getting the pictures posted. In response to your question, some of the decals are from niubniubsuniverse.com and the rest are custom. I found images from the movie online and then recreated them using MS Paint or other various art programs. That is part of why this is taking me a while to do, because I have to create a lot of these decals from scratch.
I'll see if I can get some pictures posted tomorrow of the Jedi Starfighter Dock and Council Chamber. I also build the stair case that goes from the main entrance to the inside, and then to the second floor balcony. I still have to build the outside portion of that staircase, with the 4 statutes at the enterance, and also finish covering up that exterior wall so that the temple has an outside wall.
Later,
Ryan

Looks incredible mate!! Really incredible!! :)

Beautiful work. I really like all of the various sections that you have. I also like the sheer size of this. Bravo, and welcome to the Yards!
