Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with for this one ;)

Are we posting WIPs for this one or a "concealed final reveal?" And, if WIPs are good, post them in this thread or in our own threads?
-
Are we posting WIPs for this one or a "concealed final reveal?" And, if WIPs are good, post them in this thread or in our own threads?
I think this thread is fair game for as many pics and wip pics as you want, just remember folks may copy your idear. It would be interesting, imo, to see what folks are working on. Please remember with your picture posting to keep it manageable though, those of us without a high speed connection might take forever to get this forum page to load. We don't want to have to stipulate a picture limit though if we can avoid it.
Please remember, as per the rules, that you will need to pick your favorite pic and email that to Jules to be included in the voting.
-
Guys, this is pretty much a free for all in terms of WIP images, when completed however you must send in just one final image for the voting process.
Here is my first figure, she was influenced by the girl in the banner artwork... Her name is Pantera, though I've not figured out the right surname for her yet!

fabulous figure, Jules. Perfect in every way. I love the forced reflection painted on the goggles.
-
Wow, gorgeous Jules.
-
Something tells me this might be another female dominated contest? I'm not complaining. In fact I'm planning a female duo for my entry :)
-
Very cool figure Jules!!
-
Ok, so here are my 2 smugglers.
The Bohan is called Narbann Dan-Vel, the female is called Pantera Logana. Pantera was an orphan who stowed away on Narbann's ship in order to escape her life on the streets of Nar Shadaa. Narbann took pity on the young girl and has now taken her under his wing. Pantera is a cunning thief, while Narbann is a skilled pilot and successful gambler.

Alright guys... Ive got an idea for this contest...
So who were the "smugglers" of the olden days? Pirates.... Expect a swashbuckling super articulated duo from me!
-
Thanks Spuda!
It's a Jarael head and upper body.
I'm looking forward to seeing other entries! swashbuckling sounds like a great idea!
-
Well I've been working my butt off on these figures. my inspirations came from (possibly the sexiest cyborg ever) Aphrodite IX for one of them, from Marvel's Hepzibah, and from 2 characters I co-created with a friend for a fan fiction we were writing. These are by far my most detailed and process intensive figures I've done yet. I am proud to say I utilized Spuda's Boil and Pop method for these and it was extremely helpful! I also used Yakface's recommendation to use an airbrush gloss medium with my white paint to help it dry smooth and less chunky/chalky. That also worked wonders! I finished my Cathar figure in under 7 hours from start to finish.
Check my Custom figure thread for more photos!
So without further ado I present Only the sexiest cyborg and Cathar team in the galaxy!
Vixxen Tang grew up in streets of Coruscant. Abandoned as a young girl she learned to pick-pocket to survive. She was taken under the wing of a wealthy woman who had amassed her riches by working as a con woman. Learning all she could as the woman's apprentice she eventually set out on her own pulling cons, stealing merchandise and selling it, smuggling goods to and from wealthy collectors and politicians. Often using her sex appeal and charms as well as her guile to get the better of her marks she soon bought a very reliable and fast ship with lots of cargo space. Against her better judgment she took a job that seemed to be too good to be true and payed a big price. Losing her left eye and the use of her right hand in a fighter-shuttle crash, she used her newly amassed wealth to replace them with cybernetics. Equipped with a newly implanted robotic forearm she had 4 atachments created to use in her dangerous line of work. A battle droid class grasping hand, a high powered cutting saw, an arc welder, and a heavy blaster cannon attachment bristling with all sorts of weapons. Her eye patch is outfitted with a multi spectrum optics system that allows her to see in ultra-violet, infrared, heat, and x-ray. Some days she feels the value of her new hardware, and others she hates being half machine. She also carries 2 DL-44 baslter pistols so she's never "unarmed".
Vixxen met her life mate and second in command in her smuggler crew, Myysha, a fellow smuggler and expert fighter both armed or unarmed, in a cantina on Cathar. Myysha, tho in some ways she passes for a Cathar, but is only half Cathar, her father was a Togorian, another race of feline humanoids. With lightning fast reflexes and extra honed senses Myysha is a natural body guard and strikes with the deadly silence of an assassin. She's also an excellent fighter pilot. Offering Myysha a job that she accepted immediately the two began a life long friendship. Armed with a plasma pulse rifle, a DL-44 blaster, a samurai sword, and her razor sharp claws and fangs, Myysha packs a sexy punch. She also carries a stun collar on her belt, and she wears a septum piercing in her nose--a cultural symbol some Cathar wear.
Currently Vixxen and Myysha have been buying the lightsabers Aurra Sing collects from slain Jedi and smuggling them back to the Jedi temple to give back to the council so that they can be recycled or given to the slain Jedi's pupils.
Myysha:

Can't wait to see what else you guys come up with! Good luck to all who enter and thanks to Jules for this contest!
-
@ActionFigEmpire
These are awesome figures man, and for the time it took you....I'm impressed. Love the miniskirts and the weapons case is a sweet touch on the details.
-
great job on these buddy.i knew they'd come out looking sweeter then yoo hoo.love Vixxen, the cyborg arm is very cool with all it's awesome accessories.Myysha is also very cool.you made them come to life in the photos, and their backstory.I really get a feel of who they are,and how they really fit well in the Star Wars universe. ;D
-
Awesome entry AFE. Ofcourse I had to put those two on the front page.
-
@Yakface: Thanks so much! Yeah I started last sunday and worked hard to get them done. Had to do some massive touch up work and repainting but it was well worth it! What's not to love about mini skirts? Haha. Yeah i figure why not show what these smugglers actually smuggle?
@JediMindTrix: Thanks! Haha how'd you know? Yeah I think it's a pretty cool feature for a figure. Lots of possibilities. I think they'd hold their own against Solo and the wookie ;)
@Tamer: Thanks so much! It's an honor once again to be deemed worthy of the front page :D Glad you like them!
-
@ AFE:
Love the originality here. Vixxen's cybernetic arm is awesome! The green in her hair is ohso bright, but I like the feel it gives the character. Also liking the "animalistic" touches added, especially how well the Xizor hands work on Myysha. Here kitty, kitty, kitty...
Nice work!
-
@JM: Thank you so much! Glad you like her arm! I had to add it because I had chopped my Baroness, and couldn't reattach the arm so I had to give her some cybernetics :) Yes I needed clawes hands that weren't overly blocky or manly looking and Xixor's worked well I think. On one hand her claws are retracted and on the other they're extended.
Hehe heeeeere kitty kitty kitty if only I had a cat that looked like her ;)
-
ok that's s weird ^-^ ^-^ ^-^ but really good custom the prosthesis hand is awesome great entrie ;D 0/ 0/ 0/ 0/

-
@Mandalore_1992: Thanks! Glad you like them! What do you think is weird?
-
Well, here's a WIP of my lads. They are from my no-longer-fan-fic novel "Shore Leave," written during November, 2011.
-
Awesome Dengar/Bossk bash!
-
Doc, they look fantastic, I love the choice of heads on the human character. They should make an interesting pair.
AFE, I love what you've done with the females!
-
Now that is truly a worthy pair, afe! Those females look sharp and ready for business.
I like what doc and spud are working on as well.
-
@HB94: Thank you! Females are my favorite characters to conceptualize :D (P.S. I hope you got my contest entry email?)
@Clonehead: Got any cargo you need moved on the sly? I know some ladies who might be able to help ;)
-
AFE,
Thanks for reminding me...I've just installed Windows 365 on my PC and forgot to set up my Hangarbay account...I'll get it sorted!
-
We have some great entries so far. This is going to be another great contest!
-
Here is my smuggler chick and her new used droid that she built herself. She found an old rusty droid body that was from the clone wars era and put on a new droid head that is state of the art. He can help her carry heavy cargo, provide security, and pilot and repair the ship.

-
Awesome entry CS! Love that smooth silver droid head!
-
@ CloneSniper: I really like the concept behind your female smuggler and droid companion! Great use of the CW commando droid and I love the nods to Han Solo with her outfit.
-
@ JediMerc Thank you! Yeah, she's definitely an ode to Han.
-
Clonesniper,
Excellent figures, I love the concept and the dirty look of the female is perfect. She's a real character!
-
That's a good looking pair, Tom!
-
CS that's a great use of the juno body, her IMP uniform looks great as a vest, I never cared for the open front juno figure as an imperial uniform anyway!
The commando droid with cobra comander's head is brilliant! I love the look of the rusty old droid with the briliantly shining new head, you weathered that body up great!
-
so here is my entry:
Captain "Red Eye" is one of the most ruthless smugglers in the galaxy. Known for his swashbuckling attitude and "take no prisoners" way of doing things he will not only ship your cargo for you, but board rival smuggler's ships and take theirs! He and his quarren first mate, "Kra' Kan" are a force not to take lightly... all you other smuggler's better watch out! ;)
Captain "Red Eye" isn't as good as he once was... through the years of plundering other smuggler's goods and doing his fair share of under-handed dealings he lost not only his leg but an eye along the way... both have been replaced with cybernetic implants. (The droideka leg is to simulate a "peg leg" and the bionic eye the classic "eye patch")...
In his older years "red eye" isn't really the one you should worry about though... his first mate is the brawn (and usually brain) of this team.
Handling a traditional Quarren battle trident as well as a small ceremonial dagger "Kra' Kan" is a formidable adversary. His flight suit is more modern however, long gone is the traditional Quarren dress...
"Kra' Kan" is the first figure I've ever attempted at a full on sculpt of bodilly features... I tried to match the original hasbro quarren figure's torso as best I could. check out my figure thread for more photos of these guys, as well as a few close ups of "kra' kan"'s sculpting.
-
Awesome work Spuda! Liking that peg leg a lot! A great take on the classic pirate genre!
-
I am liking Captain Red Eye. Very cool concept and back story.
-
Super cool entries so far. I just created a picture heavy thread of mine and Elias' WIP smuggler teams over in Custom Action Figures complete with a custom vehicle I have been working on for almost a year now. This is the closest I have ever gotten to completion. Here's a link to the thread, because I didn't want to junk up this one:
http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=7493.0 (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=7493.0)
Hopefully, I can finish on time.

These are my smugglers, Kel Dor smuggler Kelan Bel, and former Jedi Daven L'ren, a Mandolorian. To get their full bios check out my thread in custom figures. Basically, Kelan Bel smuggled illegal weapons for Clone and Jedi Officers during the Clone Wars and met Daven L'ren. Daven L'ren, a young Mandolorian Jedi preferred to use force and fire power as opposed to dimplomacy to defeat the CIS. Daven did his best to balance his Mando and Jedi heritages, but often skirted the edge between the Force and the Dark side. Following Order 66, both were branded enemies of the Empire and were highly wanted.
P.S. I am 19

I was wondering when we'd see a mando ;) nice work!
Haha thanks! And a Mando Jedi at that :)
-
Wow, great entries. Time to get a reminder up on the front page.
-
I am drawing a blank on this one so far but I still have a bit of vacation left! You guys have some great entries so far though. I am getting inspired!
-
Excellent customs Silver Rider, I especially like the Jedi!
-
Guys I am just catching up here. There are so many great entries all ready! I love the diversity a contest like this brings out,and no, I don't mean an old wooden ship. Really great work guys and Spud, did you forget to paint the lower inside part of the right leg of the Quaren?
-

Good eye luke. No, I didn't forget. That's actually stock paint on those legs from a "copperhead" water-moccasin driver. I've never noticed the lack of paint on that leg until just now! I don't know if that's a factory mistake or if that's how the figure was always painted.
-
Since I've sent it in, here's my duo, Rahn Clussiure and R7-81. R7 has needed to be repainted several times over the years, and Clussiure has been getting sloppier and sloppier over the years, and has had to paint the droid's name on the back to remember it. He is a cyborg with a laser implanted in his head and a heavy P-46T plasma carbine. The duo ride in a Star Ripper fighter called the Death's Head. Clussiure has been around for a while, and his clothes are dirty and worn.

Just finished!! Here's a video of the completed entry courtesy of Darth Daddy & Elias of "Customs for the Kid":
http://animoto.com/play/62tseJY8zvUEJI6n7HzWyQ (http://animoto.com/play/62tseJY8zvUEJI6n7HzWyQ)
When Elias and I set out to create our smuggler teams that included the smuggler with their mate, we decided to make half of each others team. I made an Ewok smuggler and he made me a monkey lizard for my mate. On the other smuggler team, Elias created an Arkanian Offshoot and I created her Twi'lek mate. It was a great way to put a crew together for the new ship I made and stay within the rules of the contest.

Pop the Ewok grew up a slave on Coruscant. He was kidnapped as a baby and was kept as a pet until he got older and the family lost interest. Old enough to set out on his own, Pop hit the streets and never looked back. He befriended a monkey lizard with a robotic eye named Tiet Pescow and together they worked at a space ship repair shop until one day a golden opportunity presented itself. A customer came to have his K-37 Starstreak racing ship serviced but was struck dead by an out of control speeder. Pop and Tiet got the vessel home while their employer was at lunch and quit their jobs later that afternoon. They saw the ship as their ticket to riches and that night decided to become smugglers. Pop flew the craft and his monkey lizard mechanic/mate Tiet was often found tinkering around in the engine room of the vessel. The ship is so rare that very few spacers know the punch the spacecraft packs, but these two knew they had something special and they quickly rose to prominence in smuggling circles and throughout the crime underworld.

Pop and Tiet are currently being kept company by an Arkanian Offshoot smuggler named Daala and her Twi'lek mate, Maari former slaves under what was left of the remnants of The Crucible. Both had risen through the ranks of the organization and bore the tattoos of the order. The Flames of the Crucible were a runic language usually tattooed on the members of The Crucible, an organization of slavers. The tattoos held different meanings and could be found on the arms, chest, and even face of anyone within the ranks of the Crucible. The Flames tattooed on the face of Daala were specific to the minders and internal security forces who had, through talent or deed, become a permanent part of the Crucible. They were unique to them, whereas the general populace didn't have them, nor did the minions in specialized roles. Tattoos on the arms of members of the Crucible like the ones found on Maari were usually a reference to military insignia, representing rank and the particular group of trainees a minder is assigned to. Some members, such as Daala, were known to bear the Flames of the Crucible on their faces. In Daala's case the tattoos actually meant "Protector," the name that was given to her by the slaves of the Crucible. These two escaped The Crucible and made a very successful living as smugglers. That was until recently when they had their spaceship stolen. Now they are earning some fast credits traveling with Pops providing security on the riskier ventures he has been involved with recently. They are hoping they can earn enough to get another ship. The four have found that they make one great team working together and serious thought is being given to keeping this team together by all.

Pop is hoping they will get a lead on the stolen spaceship so he can help his friends get their ship back.

Hi All
Finally completed my entry and here are some pics of my smuggler and droid. Jules I have sent you an email buddy with my final pic.
Here is a little info about the chars.
Tel Rhyter was an exceptional X-Wing pilot with the Rebel Alliance until one day he had enough of people getting killed that were close to him so he decided to quit. So with his past behind him he decided to head to Tatooine as he remembered Luke telling him of stories about Mos Eisley and that was as any good place to start his new life.
When he finally got to Mos Eisley he started talking to the pilots to see if there was any work, he got a job on a cargo ship called the Miserable Bitch. Tel worked on the Miserable Bitch for many years and was more then happy then one day they got a job to deliver scrap metal to a near by sector and no questions were to be asked.
The Captain took the job and while enroute they were boarded by the Imperial Navy for smuggling guns, the Captain started arguing that it was all lies and was shot. The Miserable Bitch was searched and no guns were found the Imperial Navy left and offered no assistance to the shot captain.
On his death bed the captain handed the deed to the Miserable Bitch over to Tel and told him to take care of ole girl. Tel decided search the scrap metal before he dropped it off, he found an old mining droid and decided the hell with it and kept the old droid. Once he made the drop he got to work on the droid and made new modifications such as memory input so that the droid would be better used on the ship.
After a few months Tel decided that the droid would be more suited to help him in more profitable job and took the droid to a friend that could to upgrades so Tel got the droids memory erased and with the new upgrades Tel Decided that he would call the droid Scrap which was fitting as that was where he was found.
With little credits left Tel figured that if the Empire were going to accuse hard working people for smuggling or gun running that he might as well do it, and seeing that Scrap could now co-pilot and work on the engines of the Miserable Bitch he would be able to make a fortune. So after many years working together Tel and Scrap are very well known not only from the Bosses they work for but also the Empire.
Recipe
Tel Rhyter - was made using the lower legs of a TLC Young Indy the Upper body and head of a TOD Indy and Mola Ram. The gloves are from a 2011 AT-ST pilot. The jacket is from a KOTCS Mutt and the ear piece is from a SW Rebel soldier.
The belt is from a Hasbro Blade figure and the holster is from a 2011 Bespin Luke. The overalls were done by using tissue paper and watered down PVA glue to get the effect you see in the pics. Once done the figure was painted and weathered using Vallejo and GW paints.
Scrap - I got the idea for Scrap from an old dio I did called ROBOT WARS C-A-R'S (Combat-Assault-Robots). I had a number of left over parts in the bits box he was a mixture of SW figures and Games Workshop's Imperial sentinal, he was painted and weathered using Vallejo and GW paints.
-
Now those two are some fine looking smugglers! Something makes me feel like Tel needs a cigar... Amazing job!
-
Wow, Ron. Your smuggler team is super impressive. So funny that we used the same jacket on our smugglers.
-
That is a great looking entry Ron! I love the tissue paper effect over the original figure and that droid is awesome! Very well done my friend!
-
WOOOOWWW! Those customs are ex...eptional!!!! What an amazing story to go with them as well.
I love the detailing on both the figure and the droid, especially the painting on Tel's head and the metal work on the droid, the mottled effect is something I've not seen before (tips please).
Man, you are seriously talented!
-
Hi All
Guys always appreciate the feedback thank you.
ActionFigEmpire - I was thinking more in the way of a lollie pop (what are you looking at pussy cat)
darthdaddy - Yeah I only noticed that I used the same jacket while I was posting my figures, have to admit thou no matter what species you use the jacket on it looks great.
Luke Sprywalker - I was very hesitant on using the tissue paper but it turned out way better the I thought and it gives it a more cloth feel to it as well.
hangarbay94 - Here is what I do to get the mottled affect mate.
1: give the area's the desired colour and let dry for about an hour before starting again.
2: Give the area's a very light wash of watered down Matt Black and again let dry.
3: Drybrush the area's with Gun Metal, but when doing it flick the brush as you go don't just drybrush back and forth as you would usually do.
4: Drybrush the area's now with silver I use GW Mithril silver as it gives a better affect and let dry for roughly 1/2 hour.
5: Again give the area's a wash of watered down Matt Black but this just over the exposed and raised area's.
6: And lastly get and old crappy brush that the bristles are all over the place I use a Delta series 965 which I've had for years. Now get your brush and mix 2 a two part of Mithril Silver and Gun metal and it has to be 50/50 and remove all teh paint liek you are going to drybrush and in stead of drybrushig just ever so lightly dab the area's you want it to look like mottled metal.
When it all dries give the figure/s or vehicle a spray of Dull coate to seal everything in, but when spraying stay back a good 30cm and give the figure/s or vehicle just a light spray or the dull coate will be to much and bland all or hard hard together.

This is my entry, I am in the "Over 16 category"
Myllo Xyllo and his first mate Byn Kasz. They are smugglers during the Imperial era, piloting a heavily modded YT-1300 freighter named Bird of Prey. Unlike the more famous Millenium Falcon, the Bird Of Prey's mods focus more on firepower than speed. That's not to say she isn't fast, she is...but she can fight her way out of whatever she can't run from, packing seriously heavy firepower and capital-ship level shields.
Here we find the pair searching for an artifact they found left in the main cargo hold on iBay, the galaxy's foremost online search-and-bid site. Byn Kasz is the big one, your typical "gentle giant". Although he weilds a pair of heavy concussion rifles with shocking proficiency, he prefers to tinker with junk droids. Unbeknownst to him, his affinity to mechanical apparati is actually a form of the Force power known as mechu-deru. He has shown no other apptitude to any other Force powers, indeed, he doesn't even know he is Force sensitive...believing himself to merely be "good with droids".
His partner and captain of the Bird of Prey calls himself Myllo Xyllo, even tho that may not be his real name. He has no recollection of any memories past the fifteen years he and Byn have been partners. His very first memory is of Byn finding him in the cockpit of the BoP, alone in an unused storage hanger. The ship was registered to a "Myllo Xyllo", but no descriptions of said figure could be found anywhere. He's not even sure what species he is...existing in a number of states. His body appears to be flesh and blood, his hands are mechanical and he doesn't seem to have a head! There is only a containment bowl with a gaseous cloud floating in it. He doesn't require food or sleep. His voice eminates from a pair of speakers imbedded into the containment bowl and leave him with an odd, "auto-tuned" voice.

Ok, folks this competition is almost closed...As of 12pm GMT this tonight this forum will be locked. All entries must be sent to me at hangarbay94@hotmail.co.uk. I only need one photo so make it a good one. Please state your age group (Under 16's or over 16's).
If I only have one entry in the under 16's then I'll have to come to an executive decision as to what action to take, but I'll come to that bridge if I get to it...
Entries must be in by the 17th Jan when I'll be putting up the vote.
Times are tough right now, and I know that most of us have outside pressures that are taking us away from our hobby, so your entries in this competition are especially appreciated. Thanks everyone for taking part, everyone has put a lot of effort into this.
I look forward to receiving your images...

I couldn't agree more Jules and thank you for organizing all of this!

okay well here is my entry.hope it's on time.this is my Duros smuggler Opa Ren with his pet monkey lizard Wort, and Copilot Clanker.Opa Ren is a Duros smuggler, and is handy with a blaster, and repairing old droids, and talking his way out of any dangerous situation,He is Captain of the ship called "The Smugglers Run".Clanker is his Copilot.an old battle droid salvaged by Opa after the the rise of the empire to be his trusty companion, and help with his trading, smuggling and navigating through republic space.he gave the name to him because he was boarded by the empire, and a stormtrooper recognized the droid found battered in the cargo hold, and asked Opa"where'd you find that old clanker."after the droid was re-programed,the name kind of stuck with him.Clanker still has is battle ready skills, and has been highly upgraded in multiple combat skills, dialects and also an assassination protocol, and self destruct function should the need ever arise.they mostly smuggle spice, modified illegal weapons, and other contraban items.hope you guys like them, and they really are some of my favorite custom figures I've done so far,and had a lot of fun doing them.I had to use my brothers computer to re-size the photos so i hope they turn out okay, and are visible.also, today is my 32nd Birthday!

Smugglers Run Crew.

Great job! These guys look like they stepped right out of a comic book! I can totally see them walking through the backgrounds of a star wars story--some frivolous event with the main characters having dire consequences for them. Good work! Gonna be a stiff competition!
-
I agree, really great characters, I think the idea of using a Clanker was inspired and 100% Star Wars.

THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED....
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SENT TO: hangarbay94@hotmail.co.uk BY 17TH JAN.
ONE IMAGE PER COMPETITION ENTRY PLEASE!
MAY THE BEST MAN (OR WOMAN) WIN!!!
