Just for a change and because this is my all time favourite film, I thought Id step away from 'Star Wars' for a moment and have a go at customising some vehicles from 'Aliens'.
This is just a taster, they are not ready to reveal yet, but here is a pic of what it is based on and a WIP pic of the APC, hope you like it! :)
-
looking good!
-
Cool deal. Let me pop this update on the front page.
-
Thanx Guys! :)
Im pretty new to modifiying vehicles, so this is an interesting learning experience! :)
Here are a few more pics! The Stormtrooper is just for scale! :)
-
a couple more! This is still not screwed together and very much WIP! :)
-
Oh yeah, this is coming along nicely.
-
The sliding door on the side is a really nice touch.
-
I'm really enjoyed to see this project. Congrats!
-
Thanx! Glad you are enjoying them! :)
I think Ive finished the main APC (though I may do more with it later! ;))
If you are interested the main material used to modify this vehicle was some old ice cream tubs cut up! :)
I have also started another APC, which i plan on doing the inside of eventually! :)
I also had a go at creating some Colonial Marines, based on some cheap Chinese figures (dont ask me what they are called??) I havnt quite finished them yet, but they are looking ok!
Hope you like them! :)
-
Here are some pics of the second APC, this was based on the Star Force Vehicle pictured! :)
-
Here are some pics of the generic Colonial Marines (they wont be made to look like characters from the film, except by luck! LOL!) WIP! :)
-
awesome job! Really good work!
-
Wow, that turned out nice. Back on the front page.
-
Great looking APC! Some really nice work on this vehicle!
-
well done !!! great work look forward to the next APC
-
I finished off the Marines today! Ill post a couple of pics her and rest in Custom Figure Section! Enjoy! :)
-
I hate you, sir. Officially. Deeply. Thoroughly.
Those USCM vehicles are utterly & completely fantastic. I *wish* we could get vehicles like that on *our* side of the pond. Those are *great*! Very nicely done mods that put them squarely in the Aliens universe. Bravo, sir!
-
Ha Ha! Oh Doc! Im sure you could knock together versions that are far better than mine if you wanted to! But glad you like them! :)
-
SLR - that is bloody brilliant my old mucker!! We are massive Aliens fans in my household and I've been meaning to do some more USCMC customs
For a while now - you have inspired me to crack on!
Great stuff mate, keep it up!
Regards
Ray
-
Thanx Ray! Im honoured! I look forward to seeing your much improved upon versions! :)
-
I think the second APC is pretty much finsihed! I Hope you like it! :)
-
More pics! :)
-
Looks good. Back on the front page.
-
Man another APC? SLR you really are turning into the king of large custom projects!!
Great work yet again mate - cant wait to see your next Aliens project!!
-
Ha Ha ! Thanks Ray! My Large projects will be getting smaller though as Im out of space! LOL! :(
But next up the Drop Ship, which Im a little nervous about! LOL! :)
-
I can't wait to see it mate! I almost picked up a 1:18 Apache form the Milton Keynes Toys R Us to try something similar myself - however I bottled it in the end!
Looking forward to seeing yours though - what are you planning on using as a base?
-
Thanks! Im using an HM Forces Attack Helicopter I got fairly cheap, I will probably be using it upside down though! LOL!
Heres a Pic! :)
Also check out the Dredd and Law Master I just posted! LOL! :)
-
I loved that dropship scene. Can't wait to see that. I am gonna have to watch that movie this weekend.
-
All of this is tons of awesome, great work.
-
Very nice work! :)
Now lock and load! It's Bug Hunt time!
-
Thanks Guys! Glad you are enjoying the pics! :)
Here is a little something else....the MK2 Sentry Gun, after the USCMC encountered the Xenomorphs it was decided to upgrade the original Mk1 Sentry Gun, with something twice as powerful and which held twice as much ammunition (well thats my excuse! LOL!) :)
-
Ive started on the Drop Ship! So far Ive turned the Helicopter pictured earlier upside down and rotated the tail end, then I cut the top half of the helicopter off, Ive now realised Im going to need more parts so have ordered a helicopter gunship model, for the detailing. I have started work on a 3rd APC as the original ones are way to big to fit into this, sadly, but the new one fits fine as you can see, as should a few 3.75'' figures! It is about 2 foot long and about 6'' wide at the moment, but will get bigger once I start to add other parts. Anyway, the pics say it all easier tha I can and this has a loooooooong way to go yet! LOL! :)
-
Ive started work on the Dropship! So far so good! :)
& Yep, there is a 3.75'' figure in the cockpit! :)
-
WIP
-
Its beginning to take shape! :)
-
Nice. Back on the front page with more comments.
-
too cool man, too cool :o
-
Looking awesome! I would have loved to see some pics before you painted her!
-
This is looking great! I love, love, love the Aliens drop ship and you've done a good job of re-creating it here!
-
Thanx guys! Glad you like it! :)
Luke the donor models are mainly green, so these are mainly unpainted pics, the other bits used are black ice cream tubs again, which I have painted (its the tail)! :)
-
Damn Im blown away this looks very close to the film so far. Keep kicking ass!
-
Thanks YakFace! :)
I think its about 85% finished now, Im still waiting on some leg bits to arrive, so it can use its ramp and the mini APC can come out, but Im pretty pleased with it so far! Its not exact, but its good enough for me! :) The missiles on the top I was never overly impressed with, they looked a bit flimsy to me even in the film, so the solution I have used is they are a seperate part, so can be positioned up, down or removed, I prefer them down personally! LOL! :)
-
These show a bit of detail! :)
-
Ive added some more decor to the Dropship, but am still awaiting the legs which will be from a Falcon! :)
-
Looks great!!
-
Wow, great update. Back on the front page.
-
One of my favorite ships of all time! Nice work there. Geez, how big is that thing?
-
This looks aweome! I too love the design of this ship. Do you have any pics of the build before you painted it?
-
thats epic man I wonder if a sigma six Dragon hawk landing gear would work for it
-
Thanks Guys! :)
Clonehead its 21" long x 12" wide x 10" tall (with its legs on and missiles up!). Basically its about the same size as the old Falcon, but a bit thinner!:)
Luke the donor helicopters were already green! So all the pics are here! It has been repainted but it probably doesnt look obvious! ;)
Tankster I used Falcon landing gear, but thanks that may have been a good idea! They are only held on with Velcro, so come off easily, I then built them up a bit using more ice cream tubs and ducktape! :)
Anyway here are a few pics of the finished item, but if you want to see a lot more, check out my Aliens Dio! I went a bit overboard there! LOL! ;)
-
great work!!
-
Thanx WraithNine! :)
-
This is OUTSTANDING!!!! A 1:18 scaled DROPSHIP!!! Beautiful! Thank you for sharing and the inspiration! :)
-
Wow! Thank you very much! That's praise indeed coming from the Alien Master Craftsman!! I'm honoured! :)
-
Thanks for all the kind comments and encouragement! :)
Ive done a bit of work on a Pilot too! :)
A few people are interested in the size of this, so here is a pic of it next to an original Falcon, which should give you a good idea! Ive just realised I forgot to add the top missiles, so thats what it looks like without them! LOL! ;)
-
I have a couple more ships in WIP, these were Gi Joe jets, Im sure those of you who know about the Joes will have a better idea of what they are / were than I do! LOL! But I will be using them to make other Aliens CMC type ships! :)
-
Those had a fast turn around! LOL! :)
I present:
Colonial Marine Corp - Attack Ship & Rescue Ship - Able to travel at very high speeds and armed with a variety of missiles, making it an effective fighter, but large enough to transport several Marines, so useful for dropping Scout Troops behind enemy lines or rescuing small groups.
Enjoy! :)
PS I think this may get a repaint so both ends match more closely!
-
The Colonial Marine Corp - Scout Ship - small and fast, able to fly close to ground level and recon areas prior to main Dropship descents.
Well thats my story and im sticking to it! LOL! ;)
Enjoy! :)
-
Yep! I was right the CMC Attack Ship needed a bit more paint! LOL! :)
And for those of you who know these vehicles, yes all the lights etc, still work! LOL! ;)
-
I love em both but that scout ship is by far my favorite. Sweet work there.
-
Thanks Clonehead! :)
Here is a final Round up post, I think Im finsihed with Aliens for now! :)
-
Nice, I plan on front paging these sometime today (when I can catch a break).
-
That is a fantastic collection !!! I hope you will return to this soon great job !!!
-
Thanx Shawn! :)
Thanks mrjedi1977! :) Im glad you like my humble efforts! I do plan on returning to this theme soonish, but I am currently lacking in Aliens ( Ive only got 2!) for what I might like to do! LOL! ;)
-
humble efforts? youve got some of the best vehicle customs ive ever seen in this little thread of yours! nothing to be bashful about thats for sure!
-
Thank you very much Helix 88! You are too kind! Im very glad you like them! :)
-
Love them!
-
Watched Aliens vs. Predators and then the latest Predator movie over the weekend. Awesome creations these. Would love to see your take on Predators too. Any chance of adding them to this mix?
-
Thanx StenHunter! :)
Tamer I love all the Aliens and Predator films, the AVP's are also fun, so I have been busy bidding on Aliens on E Bay recently!
Trouble is there are lots of great Alien and Predator figures out there, but they are mainly all over 4" tall, which is out of my scale sadly! :(
So I am stuck with the Kenner figures, but as part of a lot I have acquired a Predator Figure, so who knows? Watch this space! LOL! :)
But for now here is a CMC micro Shuttle (basically I am using up a few spare bits left over from the others! LOL!) which turned out better than I expected! The Toothpaste lid and straw engines also worked well! LOL! :)
-
Nice. On both counts. Back on the front page.
-
Great ships!
-
That is an awesome collection of vehicles! Loving the new one as well!
-
Thanks Guys! :)
I now have 6 Aliens which is a lot more like it and a Predator! :)
I also have a plan so my Aliens break may be fairly short especially now I have HangarBay94's inspiring Banner Artwork! LOL! ;)
-
Dude! These are so freaking awesome! More, please!
-
This new small ship rocks, love it!
-
Thanx BlackThorne! Your work is awesome! :)
I've recently bought a cheap Endor AT AT and am currently busy modifying it! ;)
-
Well I finally managed to buy a cheap AT AT on E Bay! Its taken a while! LOL! :)
This is an Endor version from 97 for those who want to know. :)
A while back Tamer and I had a short discussion about me making an AT AT Playset (its on pages 17 & 18 of my Dio Thread if you want to read it), I thought it would be a bit large as Id really have to make the whole thing and not just the insides to be happy with it, so I compromised and said I would have a go at modifying an AT AT vehicle if I could get a cheap one! :)
Here are the first WIP shots! ;)
Firstly I used an idea Ive seen used before round here ( sorry! I cant remember which of you talented fellows did it, but thanks to whoever it was! :) ) so I made the side door a platform to increase the play area, this I did with some wire, a couple of cannon legs and some straws. The Straws can come off and the side door will then close again as the wire doesnt get in the way. :)
Secondly as it had a cut out window in the platform and I saw some pics of the BIG Legacy AT AT with all the bells and whistles somewhere, I decided to make up some sort of winch system, so I made the existing hatch bigger and knocked together a winch which is manual but works fine, its made from a retracting cord for keys from a belt (though I had to break it so it didnt crash into the AT AT at speed each time it was used! LOL!) there is also a cog and the frame from a Falcon's Radar Dish, the harness I used to raise and lower the figures is the gunnery chair from a Falcon.
Thirdly I took the electronic box that makes noises out and added it to my Death Star Dio, which made a lot more room inside and left a hole, which with a bit of tweaking was made big enough to hold a Speeder Bike.
Fourth I had to alter the back of the AT At so the Speeder Bike could be lauched from it, so with a bit of cutting and the aid of some gaffer tape and some side decor from a Falcon again, I made the back of the AT AT into a door.
I then added a couple of cannons and some extra interior bits.
The AT AT had no Cockpit Canopy so I am considering making one, theres a pic of a possibility here to!
Anyway, still a long way to go and lots of painting to be done, but I hope you like what i have done so far! :)
Heres the pics! Enjoy! :)
-
More pics! :)
The Silver cannon below the head has a red LED light in it which flashes and makes shooting noises. The Canopy is from the Action Force Helicopter I altered to make the Aliens Dropship.
There will be blue LED's added to the interior of the AT AT when its finsihed! :)
-
That canopy is awesome. I have to hear how you did that.
On the front page.
-
The canopy was from the helicopter for 12" figures at the start of the dropship work, it was virtually fitted anyway, but was too long to I cut it to size using a hot wire, the round cheeks at the side of the head were a problem, but the falcon radar dish was about the same size, so I drew round it & cut it again with hot wire, then a couple more holes were melted and screws put through them to hold the canopy in place. The next issue was a screw fixture in front of the pilots, so I had to remove that & there you have it!
One problem I have noticed is its balance, since removing the sound box in the rear, it's head is now the heaviest part, so it's balance isn't as good as it was, but don't worry it doesn't fall over! Lol! :)
-
Fantastic conversion work to that walker.
-
Simply amazing! Great job on the AT-AT!
-
Wow, you cut all that canopy corners and what not with just a hot wire? Fantastic.
-
Thanks guys! Well Tamer, it's a hot wire attached to an artists pyrography tool! So no I wasn't running back and forth to the oven! Lol!
Though in the past I used to use just hot wire in an open fire to burn runes into wood, so it would be possible to do it that way! ;)
-
Gobsmackingly gorgeous work on all of these vehicles!!!
-
SLR, that is a wonderful conversion, I absolutely love the fact that the speeder bike fits in the back, and the cabin is so much better with your improvements.
I really admire your skill that's been shown in this project.
J
-
Well done!
-
I love how you took my idea and made it ten times better. Wish I thought of adding all the cool details
-
Aha! I knew I'd seen it somewhere! Thanks for the idea Krztfr! :)
-
Welcome ;D...I see you took out T-bar handle I wanted to do that but I couldnt figure out how to keep the head looking forward instead of down
-
Oh, that fell out when I took it apart, I just didn't bother putting it back! Lol! It doesn't seem to effect it, not being there and it's hardly necessary! :)
-
WOW! This is so cool! Love the clear cover you added! Really all of the mods make this outstanding! Very nice work!
-
Thanks Luke! :)
Ive not had a lot of time to spend on these projects lately, but I had a bit spare today, so Ive made a few more modifications to the AT AT.
1) Ive added blue LED's
2) Ive altered the neck by covering it with Tumble Dryer hose.
3) Ive added some acrylic rods to the front where the original clear cannons would have been, these were very cheap from E Bay, the hardest part was melting them enough to get a bend where they connect to the sliding rods, I will do a bit more work on them to make them look more gun like. I didnt buy the original replacements guns as they were asking silly money for them! :(
4) Ive chopped the old Falcon gunners chair up a bit, so the figure now stands upright, rather than bent over and added a gun to the side of the harness!
I guess the next main thing to do is to paint it up, Im thinking about doing it in the same sort of colouring as the AT ST I did in my Aliens Dio thread! :)
Here come the pics! :)
-
A few more! :)
-
Oh wow! I would love to know how you did this! Looks awesome!
-
Looks good, back on the front page.
-
That looks absolutely bad a**,sure takes some balls to chop and change a walker. Can't wait to see the end results
-
Dude, I wish you were my neighbor so I could play with that AT-AT...lol. Great job!
-
The lighting u put in is awesome!
-
Thanks for all the kind words guys! Glad you like it! :)
The lighting is just some blue LED Xmas lights with a little battery pack, they are hidden under the floor and extra holes have been burnt into the flooring in places to allow the light through! Very cheap and simple! :)
Anyway, I think its just about finished now, Ive given it a dab of paint! So here are the pics!
Enjoy! :)
-
Here are a few more with the matching AT ST and some troops! Oh I also added an extra 360 degree cannon on the back, to take care of any pesky Snowspeeders etc! :)
-
Wow, I like this! On the front page. There is just of great work on this.
-
Oh, yeah, the paint made it over the top. Fabulous build, SLR!
-
Dude, you knocked this one out of the park! Great job!
-
Gorgeous work. I love everything about this!
-
Didn't realise there was an AT-ST in progress too........both turned out great, crazy mods and the camo is sweet.
-
Thanx for all the praise guys! Glad u like it! I may tweak it further at some point! :)
-
I wasn't to happy with the rear gun on the AT AT, so.. I removed it and replace it with a turret arrangement and ladder on the side for access!
I may paint the turret, but not sure as it matches the cockpit? Hope you like it! :)
-
I like the turet but maybe work a bit more on the ladder to make it look like its part of the at-at?
-
Great paint job! This beast turned out awesome! Very nice work my friend!
-
Thanks Luke! :)
Yep I agree krtztfr, I also decided to paint the turret too! I think they both look a lot better now! ;)
-
Wow, so cool. Love that top turret. Back on the front page.
I think the only thing that is throwing me off on this is that dryer hose color, think I would either switch back to the regular neck gear or make it more match the other vehicle colors as far as the grey and the green. I think I like the thicker neck look, but think it still looks a little too white for me if that makes any sense. And I could just be walker arrogant as I know how fixated on that particular vehicle I am.
-
This is fantastic !!!
-
Absolutely amazing!!!! You did a great job!
-
Thanx Guys! :)
Its funny you should say that Tamer! I was thinking the same thing to myself today!
SO.... I have painted the ladder again, painted the platform, painted the guns and painted the neck! I think it is actually finished now! LOL! ;)
Would you believe there is a meter of hose there!? so it was a bit of a problem to paint, but....
I hope this is more to your liking! LOL! ;)
P.S. I also gave the Speeder Bike a quick repaint to! :)
-
Yepper, much better than seeing that white look. Might have went with more grey, but yes this is working for me now.
-
Ok Shawn, this is just for you, as I know you are a bit 'particular' about your AT AT's! LOL! ;)
Actually it worked out a lot better than I expected! :)
-
Wow, now thats what I call good. I just responded to your pm after seeing the previous update. I like it and this works. Expect another fper coming soon.
Its funny how those small details can really drastically improve a project. I was really liking the work, but that neck and the off color was just bugging me. Now it really all blends together seamlessly.
-
Your AT-AT is gorgeous. I love the new neck work. All of the modifications you've done just blew me away!
I honestly can't stop shaking my head repeating, "That's cool as [expletive]!!!"
My hat is off to you, sir. Very impressive.
-
Back on the front page yet again with those last great mods.
-
canĀ“t believe it, looks amanzing really great work
-
Thanx Guys! Im glad you all like it! This one was one I couldn't quite put down and had a lot more tweaks than usual to get it right! But Im happy with it now! :)
Im redoing my CMC's now! :)
-
Man I love this at at it just rocks. Nice work on the design and deco!
-
Thanx!
Ok, as I dont have space for any more sizeable Dio's and my Hadleys Hope Dio has been scrapped after a large friendly dog bounced all over it! LOL!....Groan!
I have also finished my USCMC figures using Wookie- Balls cast off old armour
So.... I am now moving swiftly onto my next USCMC Vehicle project! :)
This is a USCMC Tank / APC!
I started with a fairly familiar HM Forces tank for 12" figures.
From there I took it apart, made a base for the turret, so 3.75" figures can stand in the Turret and added an entry hatch to the lower decks with a ladder.
I then cut a door section out of the back of the tank and replaced the plastic with a door ramp which will raise and close.
I then added several new guns, a radar dish and radio masts to the outside.
I have also started on the inside and created a drivers position at the front, there are also 2 benches at the rear for the Marines to sit on.
This is obviously still early days and WIP.
Hope you like it! :)
-
Please don't get rid of that AT-AT!
Tank, is looking promising too.
-
Thanx! :)
Ha Ha! Dont worry the AT AT is safe for now! :)
-
Please don't get rid of that AT-AT!
Tank, is looking promising too.
I think what Tamer meant was IF you do get rid of it send it to him lol
But I love idea of repurposing 12" vehicles for 1:18 scale figures it make the vehicle look even bigger than it reall is.
Can't wait to see all the little things added to this
-
Thanx krztfr! Its got a long way to go yet! :)
Ref the AT AT...Yes, I got that feeling too! LOL! ;)
Yes if I get rid of it Shawn, you can have first dibs on it! LOL! :)
-
Yes if I get rid of it Shawn, you can have first dibs on it! LOL! :)
Whew! I can rest easier now. Tank to the front page!
-
Ive made a bit of progress on the USCMC Tank, its main colour has changed, though it still needs camo added.
The Interior is pretty much complete though, there will be some LED lighting too eventually!
Hope you like! :)
-
Nice, time to go to the front page.
-
Introducing KILLER CLOWN :)
-
Ok this is a USMC M580 Battle APC, it resulted from a Government cost cutting exercise, which saw the M22 Jackson Tank and the standard M577 APC merged into one vehicle, but for once everyone was happy about it! :)
This huge Tank is basically an oversized APC base with a large gun Turret on top. This model sports a huge M40 Ridgeway gun as well as a smaller M577 A miain gun and not to mention a side gun from the M577 B Turret as well as 2 banks of M402 Multiple Launch mortars and a heavy duty M60 machine Gun for crowd control accessed via the front hatch.
-
In addition to its ability to act as a full Battle Tank, the M580 is also a fully functional APC with the ability to carry two 4 man Colonial Marine Rifle Squads, their Section Sargent and Platoon Commander, as well as an Android Driver, a Turret Gunner and all their equipment.
-
I experimented with the LED's for this one, I used Ballon LED's for Weddings etc, they were cheap, come ina variety of colours and can be turned off, on constantly or set to flash, you can also replace their watch type batteries.
The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed, that this sports 2 fron headlights (white), 2 rear lights (red) and a number of blue lights for lighting the interior. As well as these though, there is also an LED in the end of the front main cannon and also one in the side gun, which flash red, though I couldnt capture that in the pics sadly.
The info and M 'this that and the other numbers', were based on info from the ALIENS: Colonial Marines Technical Manual by Lee Brimmicombe-Wood, which is well worth a look! :)
Hope you enjoyed the pics! :)
-
Hey what a cool name, I like it. Man, great led work too. Time to take this back once again to the front page.
-
That is just Beautiful.
