has anybody tried to enlarge the cockpit of a vintage MF so a modern Chewbacca figure will fit?

Now that is an interesting question.  First off, welcome to the Shipyards, Brother B!  Now, as to your question, while I haven't seen one per se, that doesn't mean someone else hasn't seen or tried it.  I'm as anxious as you are to see if anyone else has tried.  I'm not even sure how you'd go about doing it!

Welcome to the ISY.

Not that I could do this but I have an idea for the cockpit. I have a vintage and it looks like it can be done.

Hollow out the back of the cockpit past where the top of the cockpit clips on to open.It looks taller so you can put 2 of the Star Trek Chairs in which Chewie can fit in. Maybe mod one of those control consoles to fit in there as well.

What do you guys think. Would that work?

Ok I’ve done it!  Cut the pegs of the dashboard, pushed the original seats as far back down the cockpit shaft as they could go. Put in a false floor and attached small magnets to the canopy so is doesn’t fall off. Will post pictures soon
