My sci-fi stuff...
« on: February 03, 2013, 01:20:54 AM »
Hi all

Thought I'd post some pics of my collection :)

I've been knocking out Star Wars blasters these past few weeks:

Hasbro DH17 - may still dirty up the metalwork

Doopydoo resin ANH DL44 - varnish killed all the rust, so need to reapply

Hasbro E11 + Doopydoos resin

Some recent figure repaints:

Wow, there is just a ton of great work in here. A Dwarf Vader? FTW!

Loving your one to one blaster prop work too. Hope the E-11 blaster pics get to working. Welcome to ISY. This update is on the fp.

Welcome to the Yards!

Awesome work, very inspiring to see those Vipers and that Raider. Love the Dwarf Vader and the typical "miniature" style paint jobs on the Stormtrooper and Yoda figures too.

More amazing work and I would never have guessed that was an AMT/ERTL X-Wing stunning work indeed.

Hi

Been a while since I had chance to do anything - studying :(

I finished this Moebius MkI Viper (nice kit...) and managed to take some 'in progress' shots for once, so thought I'd post to show how I build up layers of weathering.

Basecoat and masking. Started by applying some salt masking by wetting the area to be sprayed and scattering with salt:

What this initial treatment looks like after a quick blast from the AB:

Hit it with an oil wash/rub down, allow to dry and then take some abrasives to both the red livery and the basecoat:

Individual panels were masked of and selectively weathered using Tamiya Weathering Master rust, soot, grey and green. The darker blast marks and watery looking rust are simply the weathering master applied wet. Love this stuff as it's completely water soluble (wash mistakes off!), but doesn't disappear when you blast it with varnish. I use chisel tipped nylon brushes to apply the stuff dry for panel accents and it builds up very gradually making it easier to control and judge when you're done. Beats messing around with an AB I reckon:

I added a few final scorch marks with the AB to tie things together, and a few selective panel/detail washes using dirty browns/black:

And here she is with her friends :)

Quick and fun :)
