Working on some smaller scenes and buildings that will fit on my large shelf environment. These will be built outside the shelf environment and placed as need on the shelf dio. That way I can move them around for different looks.
It's not as fun though. I like making figures more.
First, in case you haven't seen it, this is the big shelf environment. It's an IKEA shelf with some dividers left out, and other dividers cut to make doors. It's been painted, and I added LED lighting. You can see a ton of greebles on the shelves that will eventually be placed in the environment.

Last you saw of these pieces I had covered them in black. That's a sealing layer of Mod Podge mixed with some black paint. Next I sprayed on a primer color (mostly to get the 1st door color started), followed by the base building color.
I also built this throne thing for my custom Hutt. Gave it a base layer color, and some darker slop sprayed over it. This thing is going to get some heavy dirty wash and weathering.
This continues to be a HUGE learning curve for me building this shit, and using the airbrush. Speaking of which; my next project is a spray booth for the airbrush. The backyard just isn't working.

And a built a doorframe for this door from Diorama Outfitters. I hate the current (primer) color I used on the frame, but with some dark wash it'll look cool (or it'll get repainted). With this doorframe I'll be able to place this door anywhere on the big dio shelf without it being permanently fixed to one spot. Very fuckin' cool.

Here's something cool that I hadn't mentioned yet. When planning the smaller buildings and mini-dios to go on the big dio shelf I've limited their width so they can fit on the shelf sideways. This way a mini-dio can be used along the back wall, or against one of the side walls.
Or, fit two near each other to make an alleyway.

I've gone back to the big shelf and repainted most of it because I hated the colors. Added some dirty weathering after painting them a sand color. Also sealed to gaps around the backs walls I installed for a more seamless look.

I had some scraps and bits of leftover insulation foam stacked near the back of the shelf and had an interesting thought. So I knocked together this little stairway-landing. It needs some sanding and painting still. It fits neatly between "structural" beams and like the mini-dio walls it'll be modular! It fits between those "structural" beams on 2 different levels or can be removed entirely. I can put a "door" on top (as in the pictures below), or I could leave the door off. I really like that it adds depth to the shelf by allowing figures in the back to be seen better.

The new deco is a little different for each level. Green level got these little gaps which were actually unplanned; I had a couple stencil mistakes, painted over them, and weathered it to match. Part of the fun is owning the mistakes and making them into something cool.

The 4th shelf does not currently have a color-name assignment. It will eventually be an industrial-looking landing dock for small spacecraft. For now though it's a work shelf for parts, and tools, and paints, and random stuff while I work mostly on the other three levels.

Mod Podge mixed with some acrylic paint will harden and seal foam dios. I'm not sure it was this video, but I definitely learned that trick from Black Magic Craft.
I share this video all the time. The scale is off, but the skills are all the same. This is where you get started making dios.

I love how this project comes along, Don. You lighted it so well that all the fine details and elements you added, can be seen in full beauty almost without and shadows.
I also love the Rodian fashion show! Been thinking 'bout Han in different outfits when I modified an Indiana Jones figure a couple days ago. Could well see this crew in a fashion catalogue for the latest collection of jackets in the galaxy!
That dedicated sign from Outer Rim Traders is such a nice dedication. It looks top notch and is one of my favorite details along with the posters of the bands and the scaled carpets.

No, I have considered buying a 3d printer, but looking at the cost, and the learning curve, and knowing there's probably an end to my needs (once this big dio is complete I won't have space to build another so what would I need to print?) I looked around at what other people are making and selling and figured I could get enough of what I want that way. But I did keep some notes.
Are you familiar with Empire toy works? If you're not familiar with Empire Toys Work, and his Rot Gut Station, you should definitely check him out on Facebook and Instagram. He sells a variety of really cool (quality, but expensive) buildings and dio accessories on ebay as seller 'empiretoyworks'.
Hole in the Ground Productions makes some really great accessories, droids, and custom vehicles, and sells them at http://www.holeinthegroundpro.com/dioramas.html Hole in the Ground is all cast (2-part resin in a mold) items, not 3d print items, so there are never 3d print lines on the model.
Outer Rim Traders also makes really great accessories and sells them at https://www.outerrimtraders.com/
Redflare Models is my new-favorite 3d modeler! He does panels and greebles and doors inspired by the Black Spire Outpost on Batuu. He sells them at www.redflare.tech He's pumping out quality designs based on elements from Batuu (Disneyland/World), and he's using a resin 3d printer so there are no noticeable 3d print lines on the model.
Krazy D's Kustoms makes really great accessories, updates his site frequently, and sells them at https://krazydskustoms.fws.store

Ebay seller Relivingthepastagain sells a variety of very interesting dio accessories, but uses an FDM 3D printer which leaves big disappointing layer lines on the model.

Experimenting with tiny LEDs from Evan Designs. This is done using a battery & switch LED kit. I plan to have smaller scene-lighting all throughout Outpost 423 so I guess I'll be running wire and switches all over.

No, I don't have a printer. I bought these prints from Redflare. I mentioned that they're resin prints because I like the results of his resin printer.

The bar section looks great on your Outpost, Don! Really like the details you added! This playset is definitely a win for your cool project. Also the lights add a level of realism to the scenery! Great stuff, I could look at for hours!

Here's a little peek behind the curtain. I'm building a riser/stage thing for Jabba's dias. I like the idea of him being higher than everyone in the room, and I like the idea of a big custom-figure group shot using the various heights of this to better show the group...eventually.
First, it's just foam. I cut the shapes, then roll a balled-up piece of tin foil across the surface to add the texture. Then "primer" paint it with Mod Podge mixed with black paint. The Mod Podge seals and hardens the foam. Then base-color paint. Then weather. Still a bunch of details planned.
Oh, and you might notice I took down some wall decorations behind Jabba. Some of that will be coming back, but I wanted to repaint that wall and start over with this new riser.

Wow, Don! That's amazing. I love all the little details, especially the Kennedy poster :) The tires were a great idea for the Palm Tree planters, they look great. I also really like the washers and bits that you have on the rust/brown A-wing, those totally work as ship parts. Outpost 423 looks absolutely amazing - you should be really proud of this display! I'd love to see some closer pictures of the sections as they are in that last image.

That is cool, Don. All signs/paintings look great (I especially like the creature/being graphic). I love the "garage" door with the yellow lintel and warning sign. The little details make the environment looks very real-life. Great work and I'm looking forward to more.

I'm not sure the pics really do justice to this. The Rodian work-crew has added this drop-down facade to each level (to help block the glare from the lights while I'm sitting at my desk, and these little angle pieces to just add some depth to the project. I didn't plan or measure, just slapped them up there randomly. Still need to paint it, and have some pipes and greebles planned.

The lighting is great for the bar, really cool execution. The drop-down facade works really well for hiding the lights, but it also looks great and adds another neat dimensional element. Really great! The paint job on the big circular door looks mighty good, I'm not sure what else you would need to do with it.

The goal is to create a large-ship landing pad (shelf) big enough to house the BMF Falcon, the Crest, and the upcoming Ghost all at the same time.

Yeah, I mentioned the Ghost above. That "rumor" is what got me started on this expansion; I'm in a limited space here, and don't really want another large vehicle unless there's a place for it that makes sense.

LOL, yeah the bar is open on the top level, and I assume the ramen place on the lower level also has beer, but the middle two levels have bars that are closed for remodel.

Made it back home from a long weekend in New York, and have a few minutes to look at the landing pad shelf I started building after Yakface made it clear the Ghost was coming. When I started I was guessing because I didn't have Ghost measurements. Now I think it's going to work perfectly.
(The pink foam against the wall is a placeholder; I'll be using it to build scifi buildings as back walls for the whole structure .)
Actual Ghost measurements are Width 28", Length 34.5", and Height 13".
Height is easy because all of them have 23-25" of overhead space.
The very top shelf at 22" x 23" was never intended for possible Ghost parking.
Second shelf is 30.5" by 27. Looking at pic's of the landing gear I'm pretty confident the Ghost landing gear will fit on the pad, but the ship will have overhang. Even with one side off the Ghost the length will overhang.
Third shelf is 26" x 38"again, it'll fit, but with a little overhang.
And the bottom shelf is 38" x 38". This biggest shelf was always intended to be the home of the Ghost, and obviously it's going to work great.
Of course I'll end up shuffling the big ships around the pads occasionally, just for different pics...
If I can do it, you can do something similar. Back the Ghost! Build a shelf!

So glad that the measurements will work out! I like the lights on the top shelf, those look really excellent. Happy the Ghost has been funded, I'm hopefully for the tiers, but I think the 3,000 order gap is unfortunate - I wish it was about half that.

I think it'll be fine. There will be some slower days, but when the Ghost shows up on Ahsoka I think we'll see some bigger backer numbers...

I'm not sure what happened, but the resolution seems off and some are huge (go off the page). I'm not a great resource for these technical issues, so I'm afraid I can't help you troubleshoot. Maybe Tamer or one of the other moderators can figure it out. I do like the design of the outpost. I would love to get a closer up image of each segment of the outpost to see all the wonderful details.

As for your images we do have an autosize correct, but not sure why it isn't working. I will take a look when I get a chance. Sometimes depending on using a phone or a tablet and something in the code throws the bbc forum off.

Check your image URL between the IMG tags for a value that looks like =w2400. Your one image that is huge is =w2642. This is the width. You can adjust the size by lowering the number to something like =w1024 or =w800
The auto-resize was not working for me either. Maybe manually specifying the size overrides it.
