Hello everyone!
Decided to make a new thread opposed to digging up my old one. I haven't been able to make that much with my full time work and full time school, but soon one of those will be ending (school) so I hopefully will get back into the swing of things. I recently got a 3D printer so just wanted to share some of the stuff I've printed or made with it. The lightsaber is 8 different parts and I found an Stl for it online. The naga Sadow sith pure blood head is sculpted by me in sculptris, converted from obj to Stl, and scaled and converted to gcode (format printer understands) in cura.

Wow, that is so great! You are making some awesome things. Off to share the latest.
-
Thanks Shawn! Here's a t3m4 I printed, took about a day or so on the print bed.
-
Man Darthstreams, that 3d printer has a LOT of POSSIBILITIES
-
It doesn't look like you need Hasbro anymore. You can just print any figure you want. Coolio!
Off to share.
-
Excellent work ! I too see endless possibilities with the 3d printer . Loving that lightsaber .

Wow this one looks great. I love seeing Old Republic droids!
-
Wow! Amazing models! T3M4 turned out really, really well.

My original Naga Sadow sculpt took about 2 days to print because of the ridiculous high quality build height I have my prints set to (0.04mm) which is almost 10 times finer than average. Then the wip pics, black coat, red coat, then terracotta overlay with details.
-
Wow that looks good. Planning on putting this one a body?
Off to share.
-
haha no plans to put it on a body ;D , I have found a place for him in one of my display cabinets. I'm actually working on his rival Ludo Kresh right now, and think it's coming out pretty well. Probably will be a bit before I have that done and painted. Other things I've been up to is, I printed a g0t0 directly of the model from KOTOR II TSL, and scanned my 15 inch cthulhu and printed him at 2.5" scale.

Looks Great excelent work! What size nozzel did you use to get that fine detail or is it just the standard 4mm?

Wow, these look great too. I would so love to see the process of you starting with a design and taking it through to the printing and finishing phases. So cool.
How long would you say it takes to print out something like this? and do you make sure you are there to watch it or is it something you can leave and then come back to later?
Off to share.

Im glad to see you posting again my friend! More cool stuff ! I like the cthulhu buy the g0t0 is really good ! Again i cant wait to see what you have coming up next ! Great job !

This is such a cool work!
Between the great projects you and Closet Jedi are showing, I am seriously considering putting a 3-D printer on my wish list.
-
Believe it or not my printer was $275 :-) The monoprice IIIP, which is basically a Prusa i3 or WanHao i3 rip off, and the best thing is it's highly upgradeable, both from printed parts and cheap enhancements (customizable 3-d printer). I found it to be well worth the minimal investment as it's got me into the world of 3d modeling again (I used to do a bit with Maya and Bryce back in the day).
I do not watch it, the g0t0 probably took 6-7 hours, mainly because of the build height I have 0.04mm which is really small, if I bumped that to .1 mm it would reduce that time by a little more than half. Which I think I am going to give a try as I heard the build height at .3-.4 is fine, but I want to keep my details sharp so going to try .1 to speed up the process. Do I sit and watch, absolutely not, I let it go while I'm sleeping or at work, manual says not to, but everyone does. I actually got a webcam to hook up in front just to check on progress. As far as the nozzle, it's standard whatever came with my cheapo printer (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13860) I have a few upgrades for it stabilizers for the axes I printed and a glass bed, but other than that it is standard.
I'll try to work on getting some process video or something together.
For you fans of vehicles, here is Meetra Surik and Darth Revan's vehicle (the KOTOR version of the millennium falcon I like to think), the Ebon Hawk.

Thanks for the info!
I am seriously thinking about perhaps getting one of these after I finish my TK Kit. As we get further and further into more tech I can easily see getting the "good stuff" down the road may entail downloading a design from your local toy store to print.
Your latest project looks great too. Off to share all this.

Looks great, I need to get a 3D printerbthe things you can make is amazing .

Pretty incredible!
-
Made this last night, piece of poster board, 6 pieces of photo paper, laminated, two got a little off center but looks good enough.
-
How cool is that! I love it!
What a great way to display your loose vintage figures. I wonder if there is any way to figure this out enough to make a sheet big enough to display a loose vintage collection? Man, I would just love to get the old Battle of Hoth Vintage Figures and put em on something like this. Off to share!
-
You have a really cool idea there with that ! I like it a lot
-
Saw this display on facebook and can only say it again here: What a great idea! I really love those custom displays...

Ludo kressh bust printed up at 4.5"
-
Wow, that looks great and painted well too. Off to share.
-
very cool!
-
That looks awesome.
Excellent work!
-
Great job ! So i assume/ hoping we will be seeing more sculpts like this in the future ?
-
Ludo looks appropriately scary! Really nice job with this.

Here's the ludo kressh after I painted it and a pic alongside naga sadow

Pretty nice if you ask me. Off to share.

Grimace the hutt, bit of pop art, sculpted in sculptris, 3d printed, painted with some fancy glitter and pearl paints, and hit with a high gloss varnish. I have another I printed, then smoothed out with epoxy, this one was not smoothed out. Card art took me a few hours to do, but I'm happy with it.
-
Here's some of my other recent creations.
-
Lastly for my update I wanted to share some of my learnings about 3d printing. The higher your build height the quicker the print will go and the lower the quality. Originally I was printing at super high quality about 0.04mm build height. This still gives the appearance of build lines but to a lesser extent. Anyway for some larger less finely detailed prints you may want to go with a larger build height, but then again come the big build lines. I wanted to smooth out my prints but I was printing in PLA (acetone approach did nothing, but should work with ABS) So for a few prints I made the build height 0.1-0.2mm and then brushed with a clear two part epoxy. You can see the results in the attachments for the force awakens vader helmet I printed.
-
Wow, so cool to see all the great activity here. I got two of the posts on the front pages and plan to hit that last one tomorrow. Awesome printing advice too. I think that Grimace the Hutt and box art turned out fantastic!
-
I love Grimace, the card art really brings it all together.
-
Got the other work on the front pages. Good stuff. I enjoy seeing what you get into with your printer.
-
Great work all around ! But i get a good chuckle with the grimace the hutt very clever !
-
Happy New year all! Here's a diorama I picked up for 20% off at big lots over the holiday season, gave it a new paint job
-
Looks great to me. Off to share.
