Hi All and Greetings from the UK!
Im new here so still getting to grips with the pic posting, so hopefully there will be some pics attached!
This is my first Diorama, made of MDF, hard board and sticky back plastic mainly.
It has been shown on Yak Face previously, but I thought you may like it too!
Enjoy! 0/

Hi again! Here are some pics of my Tantive IV Shoebox (well its a large polystyrene box really! ;) ) Diorama.
Main material rigid white card! Hope you like it! :)
-
a few pics.......... :)
-
Hi yet again! I had some spare supplies left over from my Death Star, so I thought Id have a go at Cloud City! :)
The main materials are hardboard for the main structural parts and the rest is rigid white card!
Hope you like it! :)
Here come the pics!....................... bbfet
-
more pics.................
NOTE: The grabber is actually a small pickle grabber, it works and is operated from the control room, if you look closely in the background there is a pillar with a hole and a bit of brown can be seen in the hole, simply push down on it and it opens and closes! ;)
-
and more..............
NOTE: Look in the pillar of the first pic and you can see the top of the grabber! ;)
-
even more............... :)
-
and more................... ;)
-
yep.........even more! LOL!
-
These should be the last................honest bbfet
-
Very cool playsets!
-
Great job! :D :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D
-
Cool! You are very very creative. I wish i had 1 to play with.
-
Thanks for your comments, glad you like them! :)
Looks like my posts have been compressed into one thread.... Newbies taking up all the space! LOL! ;)
-
Hey, welcome to the Shipyards.
And yes, if we don't organize that way there is no way to find things. We tried threads for each new build before and lets just say it was a nightmare. Thanks for understanding.
Time for me to take one of these great builds to the front page.
-
I've seen mini-rigs before, but never scaled down dioramas that still fit full figures and look just like movie sets! These mini-ramas as I guess I'll call them are excellent! I love all the little details and the lighting! Bravo!
-
Very nice work and I love the Palitoy style design you are using. Welcome to the Yards!
-
Blimey! I made the front page! ;D
What a welcome! Thanks very much everyone! :)
I only do these for fun and I do enjoy tweeking them and adding little details, even if they are not movie perfect!
I am sadly rapidly running out of room though, so not sure when I will make another, but thankfully I made them all to flat pack! ;)
-
very good ideas and great modeling work
-
Wow! And welcome to the Yards.
-
Time to get another dio featured. Think I will pick Bespin. Just great stuff.
-
Front Page again!!??? Blimey! I wont be able to get my head through the door at this rate! LOL! ;D
-
Oh WOW!
Now these I really love... forget lifelike dioramas, playsets are always my favorites and these are some of the most beautiful examples I think I've ever seen. Sure they aren't as polished as some but for sheer fun factor these score top marks.
You've taken the idea from the old 70's Death Star Playset and added to it. Your ideas need to be looked at seriously by Hasbro as they could make a mint producing these babies.
Really well done!
-
I agree Jules, so much play factor here and then the ability to easily break these down for storage. Hasbro take notes.
I need to take that Tantive IV one to the fp too before I forget.
-
Welcome to the yards great work on that one I wished I saw this sooner
-
Thanks guys! Blush! :)
I have an idea for a new Playset / Diorama but that will be a lot of work! But its well overdue! ;)
-
Here are a few recent alterations to these playsets! :)
-
A few extras pics! :)
-
Very nice. Time to go back to the front page.
-
Thank You! Heres a couple more! Ive improved the Duel Window! :)
-
Trash Compactor in Death Star, the left hand wall moves, the chute can be seen in the first pic and third and is usually located under the cell bunk! :)
-
Hopefully I will be starting to post new images of my next Playset / Diorama by mid July! :)
Ill give you a clue ......its big, white and triangular! ;)
-
You're taking on a Star Destroyer??? Can't wait!!
-
My clue was obviously way to easy! LOL! 0/
-
That sounds cool. I am anxious to see what you do with it.
-
Really digging the design of your dioramas. I tried a similar Death Star in that shape, didn't turn out so well. I think I shall follow your example. :D
-
I love what you are creating here, I love the retro look, it reminds me of the fun I had playing with Star Wars figures as a kid.
-
Thanks Guys! ;D
Before I started making these I found a link:
http://www.erikstormtrooper.com/palitoy.zip
Which allowed me to download pics of all the sections of the original Palitoy Death Star and print them off. This I did although only in A4 size, as my printers only little, but then I was able to cut them out, stick them on card and make a small version of the Death Star!
It was Ok for miniatures, but no good for 3/3/4 " scale, but it was a great teaching aid on which to build!
Give it a try! :)
-
I know that site. He has some great Star Wars Fonts if anyone is into Photo Editing or Text too.
-
Today I bought the materials for the Star Destroyer Playset / Diorama! ;D
Its going to be made mainly of MDF and will be about 5 foot x 2 x2.
I would have preferred a bit bigger, but I just dont have the room! :(
It will have 4 levels each about 5 inches tall, the main deck, the secondary deck, a lift shaft and the control room.
Ive also ordered some xmas LED lights, so it will be lit to.
Now all I need is some holiday to get on with it! 0/
-
sounds great
-
Sounds awesome to me.
-
Work on the Star Destroyer has begun!
Here are the first really boring pics, which are just about half the parts needed that Ive cut out so far, I would be further along but Ive had a cold!...... Snuffle, cough, sneeze! :(
There is still a lot of work to do yet, but hey if you are interested in how these things take shape it might be of interest .......hopefully! LOL!
-
looks like a great start. Can you make the future pics a little larger, and size comparison, how big is that bottom triangle of the deystroyer, is it 5 ft long or 5 inches?
-
Sorry, that seems to be as big as i can get them on here, but as for scale the bottom triangle is 5 foot long x 2 foot wide, most of the parts are 5inches tall, to allow for figures. Hope that helps! It will all make more sense as it develops Im sure! LOL! :)
-
That additional options thing works, but to get bigger pics hosting them at photobucket or a similar site (any of em but Imageshack) will work great and get you larger pics. All you need is the img code it will give you when you upload.
-
Thanks Tamer, but I dont use photobucket, etc, I will try adding a pic which is a bit bigger and one with a full size Kenner Falcon for scale! Fingers crossed!
Well its a bit bigger! LOL! But not much to see yet anyway! I'll work on it! :)
Anyway that is the base and the biggest part, its about 5 foot long and 2 foot wide, it will also be nearly 2 foot tall. :)
-
I'm not sure about your camera, but all I do is take my pics, download them on my computer, next I open them up in paint brush and reduce thier size to 40%, and then upload them on here. I hope that helps because I'm really excited to see what your doing with this :)
-
Ok as its you WheelJack I'll try that! Fingers crossed again! LOL!
Well that seems to have worked! Thanks! ;D
I promise my pics will be bigger in future! I always was better with wood and card than with pixels! LOL! ;)
-
Awesome!!! You did it R2!!!!
-
Well what do you expect from an Ewok! ha ha! ;D
-
I just finished painting my first Ewok tonight, great fun painting them, only about 50 more to paint for my next big project.
-
Sooner you than me! The paint gets stuck all over my fur! I think Ill stick to playing with sticks! LOL! ;)
-
LMAO!!! well I'm very interested in your wood work because my big project is going to be a Ewok village and I need to pick up any tricks and tips I can with wood working. For example what did you use to cut those panels for your ship? I have a jigsaw and thinking about using it, just hope I keep all my fingers.
-
yep, im using a jigsaw! But my hairy little fingers are to short to get near the blade! Lol! Have you ever noticed that lol looks like a tie fighter?! Here come a passing squadron now lol lol lol!
Personally,if I was going to make a new homestead for the clan, id just pick up lots of twigs, scissors and strong thread and tie lots of it together, especially for walkways. For the huts I think id use brown card board for the structure and glue or use double sided clear tape and literally cover them with twigs, possibly even use dry grass on the roofs, but thats me! LOL!
Have fun with it and keep it simple is my best advice! I look forward to seeing your creation! :)
-
Looks fantastic so far. This is gonna be huge, just like I like em. Update is on the fp.
As for pictures once you get to using a free photo hosting site, trust me the forums additional options load up will be history. I will go back into it to see if I can increase the size limit for the pics though. I hate to miss something!
-
Awesome cant wait to see it finished :o
-
Thanks for the FP! Not sure it was ready though! LOL! ;)
Here are a few pics of the FiIRST trial fit, it is literally taped together!
During this trial I have noticed a few errors of measuring! (I must remember to allow for the thickness of the materials! LOL!)
So it isnt fitting right and needs a bit of adjusting!
Luckily I always underestimate,as its a lot easier to remove excess than add bits to plug holes! LOL!
This is literally to give a rough idea of the size of it and the falcon is there purely for scale, as is the figure.
There is still a lot of trimming, doors windows, interiors, etc etc etc to be done! basically its probably only about 20 % done!
One other not so obvious problem is the weight of the thing! Its made of 6mm thick MDF (Micro Density Fibre board), so will probably end up weighting at least 25KG, which will make moving it around a chore! LOL!
But so far so good! :)
-
Sorry there is a lot of distractions in the background of the original pics , so here they are again with some of that quickly blacked out! :-[
Its 5 foot long, 2 foot wide and 20 inches tall currently. ;D
-
WOW .. i like it
the scale is nice.
i want to see it with paint .. weathering and a bit rust ??
-
I always liked the visual aesthetic of the Imperial vs. everyone else in ship design. The common ships always had splotches of rust and weathering, implying a lot of use planetside, day in, day out drudgery... while the Empire's ships were clean, sterile and almost robotic in their design. In addition, the interiors of the Imperial ships were always so HUGE! Weirdly enough, it made the ships themselves feel more claustrophobic, almost as if humans were only an afterthought in their construction.
-
I tend to agree with Smeagol on this one! I like the crisp lines and newness, I never was much of a 'Blade Runner' fan! So it will have lots of nice white paint! LOL! :)
-
Wow, this is gonna be fantastic. I love the size of this.
-
This is one fantastic and ambitious project! The basic shape is looking great so far. Can't wait to see how you handle all the details that cover this ship. It would be awesome to cut in docking bays for micro machines vehicles!
-
Had to get this update back on the fp with more comments.
-
Thanks for all the kind comments! ;D
This was very nearly made for the micro machine range, it probably would have been a more accurate scale, but I changed my mind... (basically I didnt want to buy all the micro machine things to man it! LOL). :o
I do have some plans for the outside, but Im not planning on going to mad on it, this is a playset , not an accurate scale model, but it will have the general idea, gun turrets, etc. Sadly its a bit small for full scale Tie fighters to fit inside it (well not if you want any rooms too!) so I have bought a couple of the Revell kit Tie Interceptor models, which should fit fine and at least give the right sort of idea. 8)
These are new pics, but there is little obvious difference apart from the parts all fit together properly now, its been a day of small cuts, trims and adjustments, a bit dull, but necessary! ;)
Im back to work tomorrow so wont be able to do much more until July now! :(
PS OOhhh! Just noticed Ive been promoted! LOL!
-
The Revell Tie Interceptor kits arrived today, so I had time for a quick modification! ;D
-
Rock on, sir! Nice combining of model and playset!
-
Love those Tie fighter docks and guns, party on ;D
-
Oh yeah, nice update. You can read more of my comments about this on the front page.
-
Thanks again! ;D
Im not sure if those guns are staying, they were just put there for a while! LOL! :-\
-
This is freaking awesome... nice shot of the couch... I am sure that is where the wife makes you sleep with this beast in the kitchen - LOL!! If you think size is an issue - you can easily explain it away as an assault carrier class ship.. much smaller than the star destroyer but add some launchers for Dark Troopers and this is clearly a ship the rebellion will fear! Great Job!!
-
Ha ha! No Im single so no couch for me! ;)
-
This is soooo AWESOME!
-
Wahoo! Ive got 11 days off! So expect several updates over the next week or so! ;D
Today Ive cut out some windows and knocked together a rough turret idea! ()rr
-
loving it
-
Im currently up to my neck in bits of painted white wood! LOL! ;)
-
this is awesome! great job!
-
Wow, look for this update to show up on our fp soon.
I must say, this is probably the best Star Destroyer Playset/Vehicle I have seen produced. Sometimes I get irritated with Hasbro as they try to make their larger vehicle playsets and as a result end up ruining the effect of both (like the last Republic Combat Shuttle they had to clearance), but this is the same type of combination I think Hasbro could sell thousands of. I would buy one.
-
Thats a lot of praise Tamer! Thanks! ;D
I just hope it lives up to your expectations! LOL!
Perhaps I'll try and make a slightly smaller one from card, now Ive cracked the basics so it can be shipped at a reasonable cost and sell them myself!?? LOL! ;)
-
That idea may not work, but for those of you who would like to try this yourself, here are some really dull pics of the parts made and used to form the hull of the Star Destroyer, this will be the last time they are separate, so I thought Id take some pics now! Good Luck! ;)
-
The last bits, there are 40 main pieces and so far 3 other bits which are used for deck decor! ;)
-
This update is on the front page!
-
Great idea giving us step by step pics!
-
Ok, its actually getting there now!
Possibly 50% done now! ;D
The LED 's turned up today, the interior needs work still, as do several other bits, engines etc!
Here come some pics!
Enjoy! :)
-
Upper decks ;D
-
A few more pics! ;D
Its still only taped together, but is nearly free standing as it is, but the interior needs lots of work and its easier to do in bits then together, but it will eventually be glued and pined together! :)
-
Awesome, I just got done posting about the last update!
-
Well I thought you may find this update a bit more interesting! LOL! ;)
-
ok ok ok now you are making me want to finish my ship now Like I have to much on my plate now. Great dio
-
Thanks! So you should JT! But if you will insist on doing about 10 Dio's at once! LOL! ;)
-
This is so cool. Back on the front page.
-
Thanks Tamer! I''d better give you a couple of days before I add another update! LOL! :)
-
Oh yea! This is really taking shape now! Most impressive...
-
Looks amazing!
-
This continues to be one of the most amazing model kits I've ever seen! So awesome. ;D
-
I just got lost in this thread I want to take your dios back to the 70s and 80s and make em for kids to play with OMG i would have played the hell out of them!
-
Thanks for all your kind comments! Im glad you are enjoying it! ;D
Sorry Tamer here comes another update! LOL! :)
-
The bottom deck is just about finished now, it still needs work on the engines and lights added, but its 90% there. :)
Next up is the second deck, the tower and bridge, but they are a lot smaller, so shouldn't take as long.
Then its add the lights and finishing touches, such as decorating the outside and making furniture for the inside, so somewhere near 70% done now I guess. Ive also decided not to glue and nail it together, as it is virtually free standing anyway, then it can be flat packed to and it is taking up a lot of room in my little flat! LOL! ;)
Here are a few more pics, enjoy! :)
-
Absolutely, positively, the coolest playset I have ever seen I do believe. This has got to go on a stand in the middle of your collection room so it can be the focus. I really appreciate you sharing it with us. Look for this latest update to hit the fp.
-
Thanks for all the encouragement Tamer! Im very glad you like it so much! ;D
-
Well I did say there would be a lot of updates this week! LOL!
Here are the next batch! Enjoy! :)
P.S. Sorry Tamer! ;)
-
This is the second deck mainly, though there is a tweeked pic of the crews Quarters as I added sheets etc to their bunks! Well it can get cold in space! LOL! :)
Sadly the Bridge was just too small to do the control pits, so I had to use decals for them, but Im happy with the rest of it! :)
The Briefing room features a display of swords, just because I had them spare basically. I know the toilet roll in the centre doesnt look that great but it is hiding the top of the grabbers which are in the docking bay! They are another Pickle Grabber like in the Carbon Freezing Chamber in the Cloud City Dio I made earlier.
I may have to tweek this but it looks fine when the roof is on. :)
-
The engines have had a bit of work done on them, inside and out, they needed a decent medical bay and security to!
This is nearly complete inside now, tomorrow I will finish off the tower, it has 4 small rooms and see if I can rig up some lighting! It is getting close to functional completion, then I just have to do the outside decor! :)
-
This is awesome! I want one!
-
Thanks GhostSkull18!
Well Ive virtually given step by step instructions, so hopefully some of the guys on here will be able to make their own!
But the cost would be a lot and its not for sale! LOL! ;)
-
LOL! Now this is a problem I love to have SLR.
And no tape now!
-
SLR? No Tape? Sorry I dont understand? :-\
-
Just doing too much so I didn't type out all my words. SLR equals Shaman Log Ray
No tape, means no more tape do I see on the outside of this.
-
DOH!!! .... As Homer would say! LOL! :-[
It is actually still held together with tape, I didn't totally trust it to be free standing, but Ive changed to masking tape and painted over it, so it is now a lot harder to see and doesn't spoil the effect! :)
It also means, yet again, it can be flat packed! ;)
Which is handy as I dont have a display room! :(
-
Man, hate to think this is going to be packed away. I know how dealing with limited space is though.
Time to build a collection room with this as the main focus!
-
Fear not, it wont be packed away for a long while yet! ;D
But sadly UK buildings are a lot smaller than their US cousins, so a one bed flat makes it tricky to build a display room, I'll just have to buy a house one day! LOL! ;)
-
Thanks GhostSkull18!
Well Ive virtually given step by step instructions, so hopefully some of the guys on here will be able to make their own!
But the cost would be a lot and its not for sale! LOL! ;)
very true, I think I might have 2 make one, I doubt it would be lol, phenomenal work though!
-
Thanks GhostSkull18! Very kind of you! ;D
Best of luck with making your own! ;D
-
Latest update on the front page. I can't wait to see what he shows us today!
-
Awesome work, love the medical bay and control room!!!!
-
Guess What? Yep, you guessed it! Heres an Update! LOL! ;D
P.S. Whoops! I didnt take a pic of the ground floor tower room! But it looks pretty similar to the second floor! ;D
P.P.S. I replaced the toilet roll in the Briefing room with a chair, this is the top of the grabbers (pickle Grabbers) in the Docking Bay, by pushing it down they open and close! ;D
-
Basically the interior is now finished! ;D
Ive just started the outer detailing on the exterior! ;D
The lights have been added, they are just some cheap Xmas LEDs with a multi function switch, they look better than in the pics, as my camera flash kept going off and spoiling it! LOL! :(
But the lighting needs work to hide the cables better, I may hide them in some black straws i have, so that will also need to be done! But its at least 85 - 90 % done now! Just as well Im back to work on Tuesday! It will be nice to have a rest! LOL! ;D
-
The lights are on! ;D
-
Wow, I knew we would get an update, but didn't expect the lights to be on so soon. Very nice. Looks like I have on story for tomorrow already.
-
Happy to help! LOL! ;)
This will be the last update for a while though as Im back to work soon and have other things to do tomorrow! :(
But its been a long and productive 10 days, I think it turned out pretty good considering its only my 4th attempt at such things! LOL! :D
-
I would say so!
-
Oh man, you have really been busy! I love all the details you are adding! This thisng is just amazing!
-
Thanks very much Luke S! ;D
-
On the front page, this SD is. :D
I liked doing a news story a day on it, but I guess you have to go back to work so you can buy more parts. This is epic. Thank you for sharing it.
-
Damn, this looks good! I love your ambition. Truly a masterpiece!
-
thanks r1bb1t! But compared to your hoth its tiny! Lol! :)
-
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats what I call a playset!
-
Gee Shucks Guys! Your all toooo kind! ;D
-
Im Back!!! LOL! ;D
Just a quick update on the Outer Deck Decor being added! This is still WIP!
The long shot is a bit weird, it looks wider than that normally! LOL!
Enjoy! ;D
-
Here are some before and after shots, after a bit of pen has been added, which I think improves things! :)
-
Looks great SLR! I can't wait to see this totally finished. Just don't tell me when you tear it down for storage to work on something else! Back on the front page.
-
Thanks! LOL! Dont worry Ive reorganised the lounge, so it can stay up! ;)
-
Woow to cool to be real .. why hasbro have not this idea like ???
NICE WORK
i love the flags on the cannons
-
Holy crap this is awesome! :o
-
LOL! Glad you like it guys! ;D
-
Just a couple of pics, as Im still busy finishing off, hopefully it will be finished by the weekend! ;D
-
Awesome, I have really enjoyed following along this build. Back on the front page.
-
man the deatails wonderfull
-
Dude awesome
-
I really love your work. You've certainly taken on a difficult project and have done it some serious justice. Bravo, sir!
-
This is truly an epic build. Next do the Battlestar Galactica! The old or new, either or. No, wait...do both!
-
Thanks for all the praise guys! Blush! Im glad you all like it! ;D
I think its turned out pretty well and I am happy with it! Sorry no space for The Galactica! LOL! ;)
The wiring on the lights needs work so it isnt lite up at the mo, the opposite side and engines still need some work to, but other than that its finished!
Any future pics probably wont look excessively different and I doubt it will be finished completely now till Monday!
But here come a pile of update pics! ;D
Enjoy! ;D
-
And some more! ;D
-
...............and more! ;D
-
.....Last for now! ;)
-
Wow, I don't know what you can do for a finale, but we have all sure enjoyed this build. Back on the front page.
-
This look's awesome! ;D
-
Wow. This makes me want to bust the figures out of their drawers and sit on the floor with this thing and PLAY!
-
At first I didn't quite believe you'd pull it off, but I have been proved wrong. This is one hell of an original creation and the perfect OT playset.
-
Thanks guys! Glad you like it! ;D
HangarBay94, I had some of the same doubts! LOL! ;)
-
Think there is any chance that Hasbro will see this and perhaps create something like this for the rest of us? LOL, yes I have been accused of having mental issues before.
-
Sadly I suspect they would look at it, think .....''ut oh, that would cost a bit too much to make and would have to sell for a lot and we dont think we would make enough profit on them!''
But hey, it cost me about £70 to make and half of that was a jigsaw! So give it a go! Failing that, I'll start taking orders now! LOL! ;D
-
It would still be cool though. ()rr
-
Yep! I agree! As I said at the start.....its well overdue! :)x
-
da da!!
Right, the lighting went wrong, so I need to buy some new lights before I can sort that out........BUT.................other than that its finished! Hooray! LOL! ;)
A BIG hank you for all the support and encouragement from everyone! ;D
Here come the pics !
Enjoy! ;D
-
and a few more................Just for fun! ;D
-
A few interior (play area) shots! ;D
-
................Enjoy! ;D
-
You have created something most of us only dream about. Bravo. Time to take this last update to the front page. Well, I guess we may get one more if you mess with the lights more.
I like the photoshopped elements too.
-
This is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I haven't seen anything this massively cool since the SDF-1 playset by Matchbox!
-
Thanks guys! Glad you are enjoying it!
Ill try and leave you in peace for a while now Tamer! LOL! :)
-
This kind of excitement I hope never goes away.
I can only guess about your next project?
-
I hope your excitement and enthusiasm never goes away! ;)
But as for my next project? ......hmmm..........your guess is as good as mine at the moment! :-\
Any suggestions???
-
Are you kidding?
I forget where I saw it one time (think it was JKNO that put me onto it), but I saw someone do something similar to your SD with a Walker and it was awesome except they kind of did it in a half style (like the DK books that show the slices) and man what you couldn't do to make a real Walker Diorama/Playset.
I am a little biased though. ;D
-
You?, biased about Walkers? Really??? Id never have guessed!!! Ha ha! ;)
Ill keep it in mind, but for now, I think ill just take a short break and have a think about what to do next! :)
-
it´s amanzing looks really good great work and thanks for share it
-
Tamer was right! One last update on the SD, this time with the lights on! Finished! ;D
I think my next project will be the Death Star again, but in a different format! ;D
-
I can't even begin to imagine how much fun I would have had with this as a kid, let alone now. Cool deal, one more SD Update on the fp soon.
-
Me Too! LOL!
Well....better late than never!.... so they say! LOL! ;)
-
Epic build. When can I show up to play with this? Back on the front page.
-
Thanx!! ;D
That would be a bit of an expensive play trip, all the way to the UK! LOL! ;D
I think my next dios will probably be the Liberator from Blakes 7 (an ancient BBC sci fi series, which probably didnt make it to the USA!) It will be like my Tantive 4 dio! ;D
and another version of the Death Star as I was given a black book case, which if I squint hard could look like a Dio! LOL! :)
-
Dang those light's are like the cherry on top of ice cream. They may be small but make a huge difference! ;)
-
Wonderful work mate! Bloody lovely dio!!! I'm a big B7 fan and have even been thinking of making some B7/SW crossover figures! Paul Darrow was even at my wedding reception!
Look forward to seeing more from you!
Ray
-
Thanx guys! ;D
Glad to know someone else remembers B7! LOL! Avon at your wedding hey! Cool! ;)
-
A remarkable creation that captures all of the magic of collecting and customizing. Maybe next you could make a Death Star to scale with her... see image for size comparison...
-
OooooooHHHHH! Pretty picture! Thanx! LOL! ;)
I dont think a proper scaled Death Star would fit in my flat! LOL!
But the new one will be very different to the last one I did, lay out wise! ;)
-
WOW Jules amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D
-
Such an awesome build! You have pulled this off remarkably! Lots of time and love went into this project and it shows.
-
Shucks!....Blush.....thanx! ;D
-
Absolutely gorgeous work. The lights take an already incredible piece to another level most strive to reach. Bravo!
-
Jeepers! All this praise will go to my head! Lol!
Thank you very much! Im just glad you like it! ;D
I had a lot of fun making it! ;D
-
I love this Hangarbay'd feature. Great work with great graphics can only equal phenomenal. On the front page.
-
Real cool+Real big=AWSOME
I love it!!!! :)

Thanks to everyone for all their kind comments and encouragement! Its much appreciated! ;D
Ive had a lot of fun making this SD and Im glad you are all enjoying it to! ;D
Inspiring HangarBay to enhance my humble presentation skills is a huge honour! So a big thank you to him! ;D
I would love to think that my efforts have inspired others to 'have a go', as you never know what you are capable of unless you try, but above all have fun doing it! ;D
The only trouble is, now I have to try and come up with something as good, or even better!!! LOL! ;)
-
Right... here are the first few pics of the NEW Death Star Im working on! ;D
Still a lot to do yet though! ;)
-
Wow, this is looking fantastic. Well I have another story for tomorrow. Just awesome.
-
This is looking great can't wait to see it done! ;)
-
Thanks guys! ;D
Hopefully this will turn out as well as I have envisaged it! But a long way to go yet!
Its only here because of an abandoned bookcase with a 'take me home' note on it! LOL! ;)
-
I'm sure it will turn out even better than you thought cause you're really good! ;D
-
Its possible I may put this Death Star on hold, as Ive had a better idea!........... still the Death Star, but Ive bought a 48 inch Beach ball, so will try for the whole thing, inside and out, when I have the materials I will need! :)
-
THAT IS GOING TO BE
AWESOME
-
Well as the materials for the complete Death Star havent materialised yet (nearly pay day! LOL!), I have decided to continue with the one Ive started! LOL! ;)
Well you can never have enough Death Stars.......thats were the Empire went wrong! LOL! ;)
So Here are the latest pics!
Enjoy! ;D
-
a few more! :)
NOTE: I finally found a home for that Gun Turret! LOL! ;)
-
The artillery cannon on the side look's great! Love the progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
-
Thanks! ;)
Heres the next update! ;D
-
.......and some more! ;D
-
Look's awesome! ;D :o
-
what are those grey things over the Falcon? They look like the samethings you used as guns on star destroyer
-
Yeah what is it!? ;D
-
If you wanted to know what it is supposed to be?
Its supposed to be a gun turret, its been on the original Death Star I made and sat on top of some of the early pics of the Star Destroyer, but I wasnt happy with it in either place! :-\
But I am happy with its new place and its firmly glued into place! LOL! :)
If you mean whats it made of?
Well its an ice cream tub, with the side arms of a broken Tie Fighter stuck on it, with a couple of handles from the Mc Donalds spoons and a couple of pen lids to finish off! Simples! LOL! ;)
-
Right.......... I will admit this Death Star was a rush job and it could probably do with some extra finishing touches done to it, but it is basically finished!
But here are the final updates for now!
I would still like to make another part for it, so I can do the Detention Centre justice though! ;)
-
Some more! ;)
-
and more!.............
-
Finally, remember this lovely pic by HangarBay94? And his suggestion about making a Death Star to scale for the Star Destroyer?
A remarkable creation that captures all of the magic of collecting and customizing. Maybe next you could make a Death Star to scale with her... see image for size comparison...
Well....................here is the reason for my rush on the last Death Star! This is a 48 inch beach ball, now imagine it covered in paper mache and the shell turned into a Death Star, now imagine the shell comes off and inside is a Playset a bit like my first Palitoy type Death Star, only more round! Get the idea?? ....Well thats the plan, so lets see how it turns out! LOL! ;D
-
That will look really cool when it's done!
-
Hey looks great. Anxious to see what you do with that beach ball. Update is on the fp.
-
This is awesome! Play value is through the roof on this one. Can't wait to see how the round Deat Star turnes out.
-
The DS turned out great you did a fanatstic job.
Ron
-
Thanx! ;D
-
Ive finally found a few spare monents to make a start on the New ROUND Death Star, no images yet as so far I just have a large tacky newspaper covered beach ball! LOL! But its a start! :)
-
Ive finally found a few spare monents to make a start on the New ROUND Death Star, no images yet as so far I just have a large tacky newspaper covered beach ball! LOL! But its a start! :)
i wish we had a like button ;)
-
Thanks Tankster! :)
OK... here are the first 2 pics of the new SPHERE Death Star, it is still very much WIP! It is literally eating newspapers! LOL! The Falcon is there for a bit of scale only, it is 4 foot in diameter!
I still have a lot more layers of paper and paint to add before I dare to cut it in half, so I can start work on the inside! LOL! So I suspect it will be a while before I add another update! :(
But these things take time!
-
Awesome!
-
This looks fantastic. What an awesome idea to turn that large beach ball into an actual Death Star.
Your creativitiy just amazes me, back on the front page.
-
GOING TO BE SO SICK!
-
That is impressive and very creative !!!! i cant wait to see this when it is completed all the best..... art
-
This is going to look great and beach balls they are fantastic I turned one into a gaint boulder for a ROTLA scene that I need to complete.
Ron
-
Thanks for the confidence and encouragement guys! I may need it with this one! LOL! ;)
-
Oh wow! This is CRAZY! Crazy awesome that is!
-
Ive got a week off, so will be busy working on this!
Hopefully I will have some new update pics by the end of the week, but this papier mache is taking its time! Groan! LOL! :)
-
PHEW!!!! Now that was more than a bit nerve raking!!!
BUT.....its worked! I now have 2 halves of the Death Star!
Still a lot to do, but that was the scariest bit!
The edges are about 1cm thick, which believe it not involved 4 gallons of wall paper paste and I have no idea how many newspapers! LOTS! Lol! :)
-
Man this is going to ge cool! Looks like a great structure to start with.
-
Looking good. Back on the fp.
-
I was wondering if this would paper tecnique would look round, and yes it does. You have done a great job on making it perfectlly round. Looking forward to seeing this painted.
-
Ive painted the 2 halves of the Death Star now, next I will be adding Carbon Fibre sticky back plastic panels to give it more of a Death Star look, then drilling some small holes and adding the adhesive LED lighting strips inside. Hopefully this will be done by Sunday.
After that I will need to start measuring up and working out how to do the interior. :)
But as Ive said its getting there! :)
-
Ambitious you are... And off to a GREAT-looking start!
-
Here are the next WIP shots, I will add some more detail to it yet! :)
It still wont be movie accurate, as I like to use my imagination, so consider it the 3rd Death Star! LOL! ;)
-
Looks accurate enough to me. On the front page.
-
well done i like it !!
-
I think the outside is done now! :)
The interior lighting needs to be stronger as it is hardly showing through the dozens of small holes! SO that needs a bit of tweaking! ;(
But on the whole its worked out ok so far! :)
Interior next! :)
-
AWESOME!
-
Can't wait to see you tackle the inside... the outside looks great!!
-
Two thumbs from me mate great work indeed.
Ron
-
Thanx Guys! :)
-
Ive started on the Interior now, theres still a lot to do, doors and windows to cut etc, its made of hard card and is in 2 halves. :)
Here are pics of the top half:
-
Here are some pics taken from above the top half and 2 of the bottom half:
-
Here are a couple of pics of the first trial fit of the top and bottom of the interior, a few structural tweaks were needed to the base before it would support the top half, this was done and it still needs a bit of tweaking to get the edges and angle right, it also just about fits inside the sphere, but may need a little trimming here and there yet, as well as windows and doors, etc being added.
There is also a hexagonal tube to be added to join the detention centre to the cells which can be seen in these pics.
The size of the inner structure is 27 inches tall by 27 inches diameter, the majority of the levels are 5 inches tall, but the main hangar level is 7 inches tall.
There should be 20 rooms including a main hangar (first pic) ,the ISP- 6 is in the smaller hangar in these pics.
But so far all good! :)
-
Second trial fit of whole thing! :)
The inner structure is slightly to big, you can see it is balanced on it on the left in the second pic which is the DS complete!
But I reckon its going well! :)
-
Wow, awesome. Time to go to the front page with this update.
-
Very cool!
-
That is awesome !!!
-
Thanx guys! :)
Ive cut windows and doors now and completed the basic interior structure. :)
Next up will be the adding of detail! So lots of fun tweaking! :)
-
Here are a few pics of some added extra detail to the DS Interior! Enjoy! :)
-
:o WOW that is looking aweseome, so reminds me of the cardboard DS playset I had as a kid.
Ron
-
Thanks Hemble! It is very much based on the old Palitoy Playset!
Some of the rooms are beginning to take shape now, they are all still WIP, but some are getting there, so I thought you might like to see!?
Also thanks to Luke Sprywalker for the mirror idea, you may notice I have used it here to! :)
-
Heres a few more pics! :)
-
Nice, very nice. Back to the front page.
I really like the whole idea of these. Have you ever thought about making an Imperial Walker Playset Vehicle like this?
-
Thanks Shaun! I hope all is good with you!
As for the Walker idea, I hadnt thought of that, as I thought the Walker wasnt that big inside? Eg mainly a troop carrier?
If there is a lot more going on inside it then that, let me know, as Im sure you would be the one to ask!
I have considered making a Walker base, but still havnt managed to buy an AT AT cheaply enough which I would need for docking and loading measurements etc, but I'll keep bidding and eventually I'll get one! :)
-
Loving this Palatoy style Death Star! So much play value!
-
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f115/CTtamer/Tamer%20Cont%202/cross_section.jpg)
Just sayin. ;D
-
This is a pretty cool project. I would have never left the house if I had this as a kid. Well, maybe I'd have left to "fly" it around the neighborhood.
-
Thanks Luke Sprywalker, especially for the use of mirrors idea! :)
Thanks Psyclone! Your Tower is amazing btw! :)
Shaun, ok, theres a bit more to it than I thought! LOL! :)
Right....Looks like speeder bikes stored at the back, a lift, an engine room and 2 decks for troops, a sort of rope drop down method area, an interconnecting corridor to the head and the cockpit obviously.
Yep Im sure that could be done fairly easily, but I guess Id have to make a complete AT AT to get it to scale etc, that would be pretty big!
I reckon about 4 foot possibly 5 foot tall and about the same length wise!
Thats really way to big for the space in my small flat, Ive already had to give my Cloud City and original Death Star to my Nieces and Nephew as I didnt have space for them all! :(
But I guess it may be possibly to modify a normal AT AT to some extent, if I can get my hands on a cheap one and I still think I will have a go at something like the shield generator base from Endor in ROTJ. But incorporate an AT AT docking loading bay area, but that wil have to wait until the DS is finished! LOL! :)
-
Right the Death Star is getting there now! Ive finished a few rooms, though there are still several more to do! But here are the ones I am happy with so far!
Enjoy! :)
-
Heres a couple more! :)
-
Right get ready for a big update! :)
The DS is now about 85% complete! The only things left to do are add some detail to the Trash Compactor, do the bottom 4 rooms and add the lights! :)
Here come a lot of Pics!
Enjoy! :)
-
Cell & Command Centre
-
Main Gunnery Control & Throne Room
-
Main Hangar, Medical Centre & Vaders Meditation Chamber
-
Tractor Beam Control (or Chasm if you prefer) & Whole shots
-
Last for now! Whole Shots! :)
-
EPIC!
-
Fantastic work, I love all the details you put into it.
Ron
-
Thanks Guys! :)
I think all the DS rooms are now finished! :)
Here are the last 4 which are located at the bottom of the DS!
Only the lights need to be added now, which are self adhesive LED's so shouldnt be to difficult! :)
Enjoy! :)
-
This is fantastic. On the front page as are more comments.
How many rooms did you end up with?
-
Thanks! :) theres 19 rooms in total! Next ill add the lights this weekend & it should be finished! :)
-
Im currently adding the lights to the DS, but in the mean time I thought you might like to see the Trash Compactor!? :)
-
The last lot of DS pics look great and I liked the posters on the end of the bunks. The Trash compactor turned out great as well.
Ron
-
Thanks Ron! :)
Right apart from a few tweaks at some point it is............... FINISHED! :)
Ive added the lights (although they are not showing up that well in the pics! :()
Ive also cut 4 windows in the outside so you can see into the lower decks!
Here come the pics!
Enjoy! :)
-
A few more! :)
-
Well this project started with a pic by HangarBay94, so here is the original pic and a slightly modified pic, to end the Death Star Thread with! :)
-
Did you hear Chad and I talking about this latest construction in the last episode of CAFN?
-
Ive just listened to it! Thanks guys you honour me! :)
Id love to have a chat on CAFN with you, but no idea how Id go about that? As for time that is probably a bit of an issue! LOL! I think Im about 8 hours behind you? But meanwhile Ill have to see if I can get a friend to take a pic of the DS and Star Destroyer with my ugly mug in the pics, so you can get a better idea of scale! ;)
-
Thats an awesome idea. I would love to see that to get a judge for the scale.
And your time frame in the UK is about five hours after us.
-
As requested here are a few pics of me next to the Death Star and the Star Destroyer for scale! :)
Im 5'8'' as that will also probably help! I also think I need to go on a diet! LOL!
Also I appear to be about 7 hours ahead of you as im posting this at 20:40! :)
-
I might have my time off, but pretty sure from podcasting with Jay and Ray that its five or five and a half hours, been wrong before though.
Good to see you with your work. One of these will be on the fp tomorrow.
-
Thanx! :)
I was just going by the time on this site eg USA 01:47 time, as to when I posted eg Uk 20:40 time, thats a 7 hour difference, but I guess that could be wrong?! :-\
-
its realistically 5 to 5 and a half hours ahead of our colonial cousins , nice to see you mate
-
Thanx! Just wish i was a bit more photogenic! Lol!
Thats a lot easier time difference to! :)
-
Thanks for the pics mate and the DS and Destroyer are huge.
Ron
-
No Prob Ron! Glad you like them! :)
-
While Im here......I hope you all have a great Xmas and New Year! :)
-
This is just awesome! What a boat load of work you have put into this beauty! So many great small details that really makes this one of a kind. Excellent work.
-
Thanx Luke! Your work is brilliant too! :)
-
Im currently having a break from Star Wars (Eeeekkk! shock horror!!! LOL!).
My Star Destroyer is currently for sale on E Bay with a starting price of £175, for any of you Brits who fancied owning it, but Collection only! Well it is huge and weighs a ton!
I need to reclaim some more space as Ive run out! :(
I am currently working on a few things, but this time Im being inspired by my favourite all time film 'Aliens', but as they are vehicles they will have to go in another thread! :)
-
look forward to seeing them mate :)
-
SLR you have completed two very worthy dioramas / playsets. The Death Star is just wonderful, a proper home for your Imperial figures and such a beautifully detailed creation.... I love it. You've taken the original cardboard playset idea and turbo charged it.
-
Sad to hear you are selling that awesome SD, but understand the need for it. Looking forward to seeing what you show us next.
-
Thanx Guys! The SD didnt sell (which Im secretly quite pleased about! LOL!)
I have also posted a new thread in the custom vehicles section just as a teaser! ;)
-
Whooaaaa... you couldn't maybe mass produce that star destroyer could you? The problem with being on these forums... to frequently you see something brilliant you wish hasbro had thought of. ;D
