Almost Life Size Yoda
« Reply #60 on: November 23, 2013, 10:13:33 PM »
Okay, so this project was begun nearly a year ago, and had a WIP thread in the shop talk section.  I lost the interest and drive to finish him, until this past week.

LIFE-SIZE (sorta) YODA

So yeah...he's made primarily of papier mache, cardboard packing and wrapping paper tubes, Aves Apoxie Sculpt (for head and hands) over a papier mache base, and paper pulp (feet).  Accessories are cardboard and papier mache, leather, and fabric.

Let me know what you think, and thanks for looking.

That is simply gorgeous.

Practical models trump CG models any old day.
I have altered the action figure. Pray I don't alter it further.

Been a while since I customized anything, but had an idea for a wee little project.

Yoda

I figured I’d give expanding the Black Series another go.  I’m sure Yoda will be in the line at some point if it survives, but I kind of assume we’ll be getting a prequel  version instead of an ESB version, so I thought that making one based on the look of the puppet would be my best bet.

This is 100% scratch made.  I used some metal wire for the armature, sculpted the head with Aves, and made his hands and feet with plumbers epoxy.  I bulked out the body with aluminum foil and wrapped it in duct tape, and dressed him in the same fabrics I used for my live sized Yoda, then coated them in glue. The wire body means that he can be posed in a few limited ways.

He stands about 2 ¾ “ in height, and looks pretty good in terms of scale (at least to my eyes) to the 6” Black Series figures.

I’d love to tackle his hut at some point.

Let me know what you think and thanks for looking.

Wow, that must be nice to just sit down and make exactly what you want. Just fantastic! We can but hope if Hasbro ever gives us one that it looks half as good as this one. Thanks for sharing. You can read more comments on the front page.

Nice job! Looks great for scratch-built.

Just so you know, Hasbro is releasing an ESB Yoda this spring and you can already preorder him.  ;D

Yeah, but that's for the 3 3/4" line, not the 6" line (which is what this custom is for).

Thanks for the kind words, guys...and for the front page boost :)

These all look amazing! I love your original and unique style! I can't believe the amount of effort you put into hand-building and sculpting! Excellent work!
