I started working on this modified AT-DP vehicle in October of 2014 and hope to add it to a small diorama. Some weeks I put less than an hour into this custom and other weeks I managed to work a few hours on it. The drawing that the AT-DP from Star Wars: Rebels is based on was designed by Joe Johnston during production of The Empire Strikes Back. It was one of my favorites in the old ESB Sketchbook but I never thought I'd see it come to life about 35 years later in an animated series, let alone a Hasbro toy. I was disappointed that Hasbro had to utilize hallow legs for the toy, so I covered the legs up with styrene and added other greeblies and fodder pieces to create a modified design.

Work In Progress Photos:
I thought I'd share some work in progress photos exclusively with ISY. My last Star Wars custom was Lenid Thane, one of Lando's Commandos, created for your joint Episode VII figure contest in 2013 as seen on this page http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=8360.90
My new project will incorporate a small diorama and I am modifying the Rebels AT-DP based on its look in the animated series, noting some of Joe Johnston's original detail and a good dose of my own detailing for the underbelly. I have begun my first application of weathering, but updates will be slow as I watch my two daughters full-time.

Hello, Warsaw....
I missed this one apparently.... Love your work and always dug your paint apps. Really looking forward to see where you take this one. Question: Are you familiar with the "Cilpar" walker that was based on Johnson's original artwork?
-
I am hoping there is an update on this!

Looking great so far, is there anymore WIP pics.

When I originally bought this walker I also wanted to fill in the open areas on the legs and bottom. I was really disappointed with the vehicle tbh. Yours is looking good.

I thought the same thing too. What a great ship this could have been with some articulated legs. I saw one person was fixing these with some type of lego joints. I might try to pick up the Target Exclusive One, but not gonna go crazy trying to find more of these.

The completed vehicle has been posted at top, plus another work in progress pic of the underbelly armor/gears. Going to start the diorama base this week. I'll post progress updates asap.

Wow, that is great! I like all of it the construction the paint, the figure. Can't wait to see that dio.

Beautifully done.

I keep hoping for an update on if he did a dio for this too.
I so wish Hasbro would do something better for the hollow legs. The attention to detail, like the bottom of the feet, is fantastic. Off to share this again.
