Once again, I'm building a Jabba's Palace.
This one will be larger than others, but not movable at all.
This is just the beginning, I need time but I haven't :(
-
I really like the direction you're headed with this. Looks great!
-
Looki'n good!
-
Ah, "time," the scarcest of all commodities! The start is fantastic, looks to be a great project.
-
Looking good! So are you using foam core and styrofoam? if yes, why not all styrofoam? Can't wait to see more!
-
wow, stunning teaser work!!
-
Styro is just the structure, foam is not strong enough for what I have on my mind ^^
-
I wondered where Carbo Jar Jar was going to be displayed. Brilliant work Franck. On the fp, and thank you for sharing it.
-
Yep, you have screwed me. My sons are going to be all over my a$$ now that they have seen this. They have been wanting me to build them one of these for a while now. Thanks a lot. JK, LOL That looks awesome, man I can not wait to see more pics. Great job! I really like it.
-
Awesome I would like to see a diagram of your design
-
Well this project is right up my alley, I have been wanting to build Jabbas palace for a long long time. I'm working on creating all of Jabbas goons and buddies right now so maybe we can talk if you ever need a more deluxe version of a character to live in you amazing dio. Great WIP shots can't wait to see more!
-
I wondered where Carbo Jar Jar was going to be displayed. Brilliant work Franck. On the fp, and thank you for sharing it.
Sorry, Jar-Jar was just a test ^^ I will share the good one Jabba's Palace carbonite ASAP ;D
-
More pics, with the good carbonite block (not finished :( )
-
wow, That thing is going to be big. nice job. can you get us one wide shot of the whole thing. looks awsome, can't wait to see more.
-
First shot : the complete palace (you see, it's far from the end ^^)
Second shot : beginning of Jabba's arch
Third shot : work on "background door"
Enjoy !
-
I really like your cutting skills. And, many of your pix look like they are pre production pix of the actual movie set. Keep up the great work!
-
Wow! Franck this is gonna be epic too. I love the look of it so far. Back on the front page.
-
Thanks !
You're right for the floor hole... But not one hole : two !
Some progress on the arch and background.
I'm afraid that this week wouldn't see any progress, f*****g "main" job (I really hate it)
-
This will be so awesome! :)
-
Ah yes, the real world of work I am forced to endure until I get back here. Anyhow, I know the feeling.
-
This is looking Epic! I too have tried to tackle on of these, sadly I ran out of steam and lost my room it was in. Can't wait to see more of this one!
-
Your archwork is just so beautiful. I seriously love this diorama.
-
Had to get that trap door update on the fp.
-
Very cool progress! Im waiting to see more, like I said before if you need some "custom" characters for your throne room Im all about it. I think I might have to start my own palace soon after looking at your updates.....just have to convince the wife. HAHAHA!
-
YakFace => depend of the price ^^ (and what you have, please PM)
I just realized that a part is missing, and I don't know if it's possible to add it (lack of space available).
Think I'll try a "patch" next week.
By the way, if someone have two Taun-Taun in poor condition to sell for a less, please contact me (PM)
-
New arch above Jabba.
Some few details fixed on the right wall
-
Some updates ;D
First, I change the first level "walls". It doesn't have any real importance, but foamcore cost a lot here... Less I use, better I feel ::)
Next, a door near left stairs whas missing, so I add it ^^ (next to Jabba's dai). Some changes whas made on the structure for do this.
Next, Dio whas not deep enough, mainly on main room side. Correct it for further upgrades ;)
Next, the "back door" whas changed, old one doesn't please me now...
Next, I start to add some items here and here for palace ornaments. You can see some Cyclop's head from a Kenner vintage throne.
As you know, I'm a bad painter, but result seems good to me ^^
-
This is look'in better and better every time you post! It looks great!
-
Wow, it is really coming together nicely. Back on the fp.
-
Wow so when can I come over with all my Jabbas palace figs? Hahaha this looks so damn cool.
-
Come, come ;D
-
First layer of texture/paint
With and without flash.
Not dark enough, need more attempts (I really hate paint job, result never correct)
-
Oh yea, looking great!
-
95% painted...
-
Yesterday whas a good day...
-
Today's not bad too ^^
-
Franck, I am so enjoying this. Keep it coming and watch me keep putting it on the fp! ;D
-
Looking good my friend! What are you using to cover the styrofoam and how do you apply it so smoothly?
-
Thx for the FP ;)
Glue whas used instead plaster... Better effect I think ;D
-
This is so awesome! I would love to see a Youtube vid of you explaining how you make this and also showing how you do it. Thanks for the great pics.
-
Absolutely stunning project, looking forward to the conclusion of this
Top banana
-
SO SO SO SO SO SO SO AWESOME! ;)
-
This is so awesome! I would love to see a Youtube vid of you explaining how you make this and also showing how you do it. Thanks for the great pics.
No Youtube vid, but a Making Of on Frank D'Ioro's Diorama Workshop (http://www.dioramaworkshop.com/ws.php?projectId=15&subProjectId=80&categoryId=1&pageId=1) ;D
-
Awesome work so far, it really shows you're very devoted to this project. Would love to tackle something like this, but I don't have the room to store it/display it...
-
Dude this looks great awesome detail on ths dio
-
Truely Inspiring !! ;D
-
As you know, I can't imagine a diorama without internal lighting...
So here is the first try. A little bit too enlighted for the "big" room on the left.
I have to work on a deflector. to correct this, and use less powerfull leds for the others lights.
-
Using Vintage Playset as a reference...
-
Wow, this is looking really good Franck. Back on the front page.
-
Looks spot-on so far Franck!
-
Really like the way you've cut the grating, and the fact that you have thought ahead and built your shelving with the rancor pit in mind.
-
Wow this is awesome! So Im comming over to help set this thing up right? ;)
-
Fracken Awesome!!! looking good, love all the different rooms and levels, wish I had room in my house to build something of this scale.
-
Added red light ligths behind Jabba...
Worked on some details for stands, you will see later, paint must dry before add on the dio.
Just for fun, I put some people here and here and shot...
-
Wow, Franck. You are definitely handling this one nicely. Look for this update on the fp soon.
-
Thanks to all of you for support !
-
Awesome!
-
absolutely superb work!!!
-
This morning work : Carbonite place...
Hope than I have time today for lighting and details.
-
Loving your continued work on this! Looking great!
-
Remove Palace from his place, put it on the floor, and shot...
-
Coming along nicely. This dio looks freaking huge :o....which is a good thing.
-
What can I say, back on the front page!
-
Looking awesome! Are you going to make all the detailed bits like small tables and pillows?
-
Thanks for the FP.
I have ordered some materials for further "electrical" enhancements, and must rebuilt the bandstand (the way I have built it doesn't allow to add some gadgets I absolutly want to have after a short review of the Jabba's scene in ROTJ).
Some chairs are already done, more ornaments are on the good way, and I would to add a BBQ...
My carving skills are the same my painting skills : bad, so, try, try, try, and retry...
-
This is just so beautiful. I could stare at it for hours.
-
I agree......This dio is very VERY well done.
-
WOW! Awesome updates on your dio work, Im loving this project so much. This is so inspiring to watch you build Jabbas Palace, I will some day use your pictures for reference when I build mine. So damn cool.
-
Over the top guy I wish I had that dio in my living room
-
thanks all !
Sorry no time for updates
I have got started something new (and old in the same time), more on a future topic (as soon I have the result I want to have)
DH

-
Looks great so far Franck. Back on the front page.
-
THX for the FP !!
-
Very cool I like how it seems to be modular too.
-
Not really modular, but "collapsible" in three parts. If I must travel with it for an event ;)
-
Other wall cut, and floor is on the way.
Overall size : 80 * 78 (cm)
-
I am really loving this !!! i may have to try building my own cantina one day !!! I am in the midst of working the cantina patrons first lol cant wait to see more of this

-
Beautiful !!!! I hate to repeat myself but i am loving this , and thrilled that you got even more in the works . Cant wait to see this finished .
-
Looks good, I like all of the sharp lines and the very space-aged look you give your dioramas.
-
Very nice. It is looking very accurate and even with the back rooms!
-
I really like how this is looking, keep up the great work.
Ron
-
So I'm ready to see more of your dio now. ;D
-
This is coming along very nicely indeed, I can't wait to see it with the roof on and it fill with figures.
Ron
-
After a long time without any sign of live (execpt on FB), I'm back !
Health troubles, business, and others reasons have disallow any upgrade of dioramas.
I just finished to move some rooms @ home. before, 1 room was my shop office, part of stock, workshop, and dio room.
Now, I have 2 separates rooms. Better for working, and better for dio-making !
I told on FB what will be my next project, but Jabba and Cantina aren't finished, so stay tuned, upgrades are pointing !
-
Lets see some pics. Glad to see you back around Franck.
-
Stand seats are done.
-
Time to get this on the front page. Looks awesome Franck.
-
Thx for FP ! :D
Tomorow, I'll try to do some molds for glasses. Nobody can imagine a cantina without anything for the the drinks !
(Red glass on the floor is a first attempt)
-
Looking very good, Franck! Keep up the awesome work!
-
fantastic work so Far, Franck! This is going to be a show piece.
-
Cast of glasses in progress, let resin dry...
Wait and see. ::)
Glasses will be used for Jabba's dio too ;D
-
Disaster... Only a few glasses usable... Let's try again.
My first attempt with RTV silicon for molds is better. Only two molds failed.
Today, I will try to mold a complete DS like panel... Wait and see !
-
Franck did I see that you have a tutorial on your great diorama over at Diorama Workshop?
-
yes, just a part. No time for a complete one.
More, I opened last week a new shop (nothing sw or toys related), and I spend a lot of time on it
-
Looking awesome! Somehow I missed this last update foor a while.
-
Fantastic work! I can't wait to see the next update!
-
Saturday afternoon and sunday (all the day) : Dio making !
Cantina needs updates !
And Jabba's Palace too.
I will stay on Tatooine, it's less cold than here ;D
-
Nicely done, any new pics this weekend?
I'm gonna be the opposite sat/sun, not much time for my projects.
I got a busy weekend but on the upside I'll have a huge amount of materials
from my grandfathers at my disposal, gotta clear it out before his estate is sold.

Despite I have to move before august 2014, I started to build a new Jabba's Palace (and I haven't found new home now, and can't know if I will have enough space for diorama like this)
Overall size will be 130*90cm (+/- 5cm).
Dio in 4 parts, usefull to put figures and take pictures ;)
Have a look on 1:1 blueprint scaled for figures.
I made some changes on diffrents measurements for many reasons (fitting on random fixed limit available space, easyer way to build, and so on)
-
Look cool. Must watch. ;D
-
Looks good to me Franck. Back on our FB and Front Pages.
-
This is looking great! Keep up the awesome work. I cannot wait to see the finished product.
-
building, building, building, building :P ;D
-
The cantina is looking great! So now you have started the Palace! Looking good too!
-
Restart of the Palace (V4 at less) ;D

Cutting, painting...

Very nice update Franck. Glad to see you still building with all of these new changes happening for you.

-
Good stuff. Keep the pics coming!
