Title: My diorama - Mos Maa'eli

This dio has been a WIP for the past few months.  It's been a labour of love (and sometimes a labour of frustration).  There's a few custom figures also and there's ALOT of work to be done to it yet and alot more figures as well.

ENJOY

I just couldn't resist adding one image code from this great looking scene. Look for this on our front page soon.

Wow, this has been like custompalooza this week. So much talent I see here. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks guys....i don't really know what to say!  ???  I'm flattered...thank you.

There's an extention at the back that was going to be the main walkway into town BUT i changed that and now there's a WIP building and a small street.  I'm planning on cleaning up the Photobucket pics, get rid of some of the WIP shots etc etc and just have the completed shots there to view.

I'm a tad miffed at my local arts & crafts store because they've run out of the products i use on the buildings so the WIP building may not get completed for a few weeks which is annoying me to no end  :-\

Again guys thanks for the comments, very much appreciated and chuffed.  My dear wife just rolls her eyes at me with stuff like this  :D

Cheers

Your local War Dog

Gosh, this really looks terrific!  There is a graininess to the photo that makes it literally appear as though its film quality.  The realism you sense from this is quite astounding.  I've really enjoyed checking this out; welcome to the Yards!

Welcome to the Yards Wardog! Your diorama is fantastic! Great photography as others have said the grainy look makes this look real!

Not sure if your photo grain level was intentional or if you took the photo on a low def camera on purpose, but either way it works very well for a gritty desert scene! I'm sure you've been to the outback a few times, probably more than a few tinnies out ;) I've never been to the outback, but I have been to the desert with a film camera and all my photos had this level of grain. Awesome work! Can't wait to see more! I want to go hang out in your Tatooine town!

Hi all....

Just letting you all know that i've got a lot more photos of my dio BUT for some reason technology is working against me today and they're not uploading!!..GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR  >:(

If any of you are in the ISY FB page i'll put them there until i can figure this thing out or smash my computer with a sledge hammer...more than likely the latter will occur and i have rather large sledge hammer to do the job  ;D

Whatever photo hosting site you use should give you an [img ] code that you can use and just paste it in your message. Thats how I added your one pic from photobucket which is also the photo hosting site I use.

I am glad you are using our FB Page too. I hopy you start a trend.

Post by: Wardog on March 23, 2012, 02:38:53 PM
The FB page is freaking killer man, i love it.  Out of all the SW pages on there it has to be one of the best in my opinion.  My brother does alot of custom work too so i may see if he wants to "like" the page...he's rarely on FB so getting hold of him on there is as rare as rare can be  ::)

Yeah the issue with the photos is that photobucket for some reason won't let me upload anything to the album!!!.....might be an issue with the album itself because the other 2 albums i have seem to be okay...so far.   :-\

See what happens i guess  ;)

Sometimes when an album gets too many images in it, it won't let you load any new ones. I have a second album started myself that just says Tamer Continued and then I haven't had any problems. The code you need here is the [img ] code they give you which will be the bottom code they give you on the view album page and you just click it and it auto copies. I like photobucket, its not perfect, but for free you can't beat it so far in my photohosting searches.

You can only hold a certain ammount of photos as Tamer said. I have so many I have 2 accounts at photobucket.

Awesome stuff!  Glad to see I'm not the only one who could see the Justice Jet belonged in the skies overhead!  Only thing *I* would do different is hide the seams between the building walls and the ground with like piles of sand or something.  Maybe some blowing trash/scraps, too.  Great-looking dio!  The awning is a great touch!

Hey Luke, if you paste a few of the [img ] codes in here I can front page each update.

If you see the image in the photobucket gallery, it should give you four codes. If you find the one on the bottom (the img code) that is the one you will need to post.

Post by: Wardog on June 08, 2012, 08:43:32 AM
Well Doc....i can tell you now that the big Swoop & Speeder Garage was the most difficult and time consuming and is the only building in this dio to have an actual wire frame skeleton!!!!!!  ???   AND i have 2 more of these that i'm thinking about converting into a hanger for a custom ship i've yet to start working on BUT space is an issue at the moment.
Title: Re: My diorama - Mos Maa'eli
Post by: DocOutlands on June 08, 2012, 09:51:40 AM
I definitely understand the space constraints issue!  Next time you do a building, take pics and write up the process.  Those results are something I'd like to emulate.

Here's 3 more new pics.  Not all of the new figures are in this dio yet.  I like the busy street look from AOTC when Anakin is chasing Zam through the streets on Coruscant and in the SE of ROTJ when we see people celebrating the fall of the Empire on Tatooine.

Title: Re: My diorama - Mos Maa'eli
Post by: Wardog on June 08, 2012, 04:04:06 PM
Hmmmmmm......I'd probably go the Babylon 5 route with some Cloud City thrown in and base it in the CW era.  Have Clone Troopers patrolling and acting as a military police force and have aliens and humans going about their daily lives/business whatever that maybe.

Have a "working class" like the Ugnaughts of Cloud City, a droid smelter/used Droid lot and a massive docking bay with several ships docked and getting loaded and unloaded by labour droids and have officials checking manifests.  A diner like in AOTC is a must and a weapons depot & surplus armour store would be a must as well.

This really well done... I don't know how to pick a favorite area... it has real diversity (just like any busy street should)... I suppose if I had to choose a sweet spot, it would be the awning w/ the street vendors - found in most bustling backwater towns here on Earth - so it makes perfect everyday life sense that it look so ordinary, yet superbly crafted in that manner... KILLER dio man...

I actually have one of these lieing around somewhere which was a donation from Hasbro back when they did that sort of thing. I can't think of a better way of paying it forward than donating it to Frank Diorio for his build. I am also still not sure I don't like the Potf2 sculpt better to be honest.

I tend to agree with that feature too. So cool for its time. Why they couldn't still do things like that (especially for Astros) is beyond me.
Title: Re: My diorama - Mos Maa'eli
Post by: Wardog on June 26, 2012, 01:00:31 PM
Apparently according to Wookieepedia...or was it Google (scratches head) the reason the Dewbacks look different in ANH: SE and TPM is that there's several different species of Dewback on Tatooine.

Grizzled Dewbacks
Cannibal Dewbacks
Lesser Dewbacks
Mountain Dewbacks

I agree with the leg saddle trap door in the body thing.  That's one thing i liked about the Taun Tauns back in the day.

yup, I got the "new" Dewback for the sandi back then, hate the Dewback but loved the sandi who now sits on my POTF Dewback while my other one just sits in a pile of stuff I dont use.

Post by: Wardog on August 07, 2012, 05:25:51 PM
To me a different looking Dewback isn't an issue...i like the fact we've seen 2 types now and there's even a tanned version seen on film as well (TPM).  You see differences like this all the time in nature...a species adapts and breaks away from the original yet is still classed under it's original name....Iguanas, Geckos and Dragons (not the fantasy BS ones) all have sub-species much like the Dewback.   The different version of the Dewback is just Lucasfilm copying what happens in nature.

The "new" Dewback is more closely connected to the original Kenner version then the Hasbro POTF2 version.  I personally like both versions myself.

Thanks guys  :D

I'm planning on adding a few more bits and peices here and there and there's still a bit of painting to be done on a few smaller things so when that's all done i'll get some other shots uploaded.  These were really just a quick test to see how everything looks because i haven't really had figures in the dio for months now (i don't leave them in the dio after the shots are done).

I'll try and get some good aerial shots too because there's 3 ships "flying" over head and i'd like to see them in shots somehow!!!!....i have to get high enough first!!! (NOT a drug reference there by the way).

I have A LOT more photos of the dio and my collection on my FB page...if anyone wants to "friend" up i have a "Welcome To Tatooine" banner on my profile page and a photo of my daughter as my profile picture......oh, almost forgot.  Type in Luke Favaloro as well...that may help just a tad  ::)

Thanks guys.   ;D ;D.   On the front page too....very chuffed indeed.  Thanks Tamer.

Yeah i can take individual shots of the ships with a bit of the dio below them i guess.   There's no pilots in them yet however.  I took a shot ages ago when it was just 2 ships hanging above the dio but i've got 3 now and it seems near on impossible to get all 3 in the same shot with the dio below all of them.  To do this i think i may have to get the ladder from the garage as dining room chairs just don't seem high enough for me to get the desired shot  ::)

Thanks again guys.  It's a labour of love and sometimes sheer frustration to the point of destruction hahahahahaha  :D

Thanks Mando.  I'm planning of getting most of my Tatooine collection, EU and Customs into this dio very soon.   Make the place look very VERY busy and crowded like we all saw on the streets of Coruscant in AOTC when Anakin was chasing Zam before she ducked into the club.   I always liked the look of those busy streets.

The issue i've seen with some dios over the years and even some of mine is that it maybe crowded but it doesn't look "busy" if that makes any sense?.   The figures have to look like they're going somewhere or doing something and that can be difficult sometimes to achieve...and VERY frustrating too.    Many times i've had to walk away and leave it for 24 hours then come back and figure (no pun intended) it out.

Thanks Ron.  ;D  I love your work man and have done for a long time and you have been an inspiration that's for sure.  ;D  I am planning on a slight extention to this dio in about 12 months......my wife and i are building a new home so i'll have a "man cave" this time around rather than a spare room like i've got now.   I'd love to see a 1/6 scale dio man, a BIG one and if anyone can pull that off man it's you Ron....do it....give into temptation, join the darkside (cue evil laugh, scary music and lighting crashes).

@DocOutlands - Join us.....give into your anger, shun the light side and come over to the dark side....let the diorama flow through you  :D........(yes, i'll never grow up)  Mos Hemble sounds like an awesome name man.  The Maa'eli part in Mos Maa'eli is actually my daughters name jumbled around..her name is Amelia so i just played with her name on a pad of paper for 20 minutes and liked what i got.

Wardog you are strong with the Dark side of the force all I could think about last night was a 1/6 Mos Hemble (and yes I like the name ;D) is going to become a realality.

I have started doing up plans for it as we speak and will be starting on it in roughly a month once the wife clears her stiff off my half of the garage.  I am going to have it between 3-4 meters long and about a 1 meter wide I'll let you and the rest of ISY know how I am goingwith it.

And it's a pity that I am posted up North I would love to do a joint dio with you that would be very cool indeed.

Yeah Mos Hemble rocks man  ;D

Man i'm keen to see your plans and the WIP shots as the dio comes along and i must say that the size of the dio is going to be impressive.

Yeah i'd love to build a dio with you man, i've never done a tandem build before and yeah it sucks that we're so far apart because i think that if we lived close by each other we'd dio build our butts off hahahahahahahahahaha....and our wives would hate us.

I'm on leave in 4 days and away for the first week then the second week I'll be getting down to the basics with the design etc so once I get that out of the way I'll start building.

Yeah a tandem build would be great and my wife wouldn't hate me she would just call me an even bigger nerd LOL.

Time is always the issue man, if i manage to get at least 1 hour a day on my dio then it's a good day.  My wife and i are biulding a new house next year and we're moving into my mother and father in laws old place until the new one gets built and that'll be happening just after Christmas so i've got to be very careful about how big i make things and how easily they can be packed away because i won't have the space to get the dio out until we move into out new place late 2013.

Luckily all the buildings are free standing and the "ground" they all stand on is in 2 sections so basically nothing is glued down to the "ground"....my biggest fear is that the main building will be far to big to pack in  the way i have in mind....i'll have to give it some more thought i think.

My wife also calls me a nerd man....and a geek  ;D.   When we get our new place i'll have my own "man cave" so who knows what she'll be calling me then hahahahahahahahaha.   I've added a few more details to my dio too man, when i get them completed i'll upload some pics.

Latest edition to Mos Maa'eli.  A street vendor who sells illegal intoxicating beverages (i'd drink there)  ;D

I added an R2 unit to help serve the patrons as well.   I don't know who i'll put behind the tables as the vendor, possibly a custom Rodian.

I may place some "food" hanging from the top of the awning inside....i'm 50/50 on this at the moment, see how that idea travels today.

There's another part i'm currently working on which should be completed either this afternoon or tomorrow sometime
