Title: HangarBay 94's Dioramas - Selling the Family Jewels

Hi, everyone!

I thought that rather than have a new post every time I have something new to show, this is where I'll come to chill out, take a breather and post images of my progress.

Thanks in advance to anyone who comments on my creations, it is a real privilege to be able to show off what I make, and also thank you for taking an interest in my hobby.

If anyone wants any further information on what I make, how it’s made, or even if you want guidance on how to make your own cool stuff, I am only too happy to help.

Best wishes,
Hangarbay94
Title: Photonovel Teaser
Post by: hangarbay94 on June 10, 2009, 03:05:54 AM
(http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3664/3613642830_71b0cae57b_b.jpg)

As my first post here, I'd like to show what I've been putting together for my attempt at a Photonovel.

Putting together a Photonovel requires not only putting togeher models and dioramas, but also customising figures, photography, editing and of course story telling (sharp intake of breath!).

For a while now I've been aspiring to get into the genre, but with a business to run and 2 kids to look after, time is at a premium. So, rather than try to make sets out of solid materials (which is time consuming), I've decided to try to put together a system of sets using mountboard, a method I used to create my large Death Star Hangar.

By creating sets in this way, walls, floors and other details can be shifted into varying positions in order to create the illusion of different locations, also the walls and floors can have decals on both sides, again making location changes quick and simple.

After scouring the net for a couple of hours I then had enough images to create both of the sets I'll need for the first act of the novel, which takes place on Coruscent, on the lower levels and on the Azameen Family Base.

The other good thing about this process is that the kids can play with this stuff, they can create their own scenes using their own imagination.

Anyway, without further ado, here are my test shots of my first night work.

This thread was a good idea.

So all the surface detailing is *flat*?  Where did you come up with the images to use?  Did you build removable doors in the walls?  I particularly appreciate the last shot, showing how everything was actually set up and arranged.  That should be of enormous benefit to me once I get started on this type of project!

I'd love a more detailed tutorial of how you go about building your walls and then your sets - you know, where you get images, how you manipulate them, what you print them out on, what sort of arrangements you make for holding the walls upright, and so on.

I'd seen your flickr with the other sci-fi base, so I knew you had a good grasp on utilizing 2D...but I had to go back to the first pic in this thread when I realized you'd used *stickers*!!  I didn't realize the detail was all FLAT!

Doc,

Without trying to sound too smug, putting this stuff together really is child's play. The hardest part is knowing enough about Photoshop Elements to be able to cut and paste images onto one another and to alter their sizes. I've been using Photoshop for some time, and if you want to get into making this stuff, then you may need to get a tutorial. The real beauty is, is that once you've mastered it, you can really have some fun. The stuff shown above literally took me a nights work.

To start with I used Niub Niub's decal sheets as a template, everything I do conformes to his sizes, that way I know it will all be to scale. I use one template and simple pate my images onto that template size.

Materials wise all you need is a cutting board, some mount board (thick card), a good craft knife, a pair of scissors, a pack of "one sticker per page" A4 sticky labels and enough ink in your printer (ink represents the highest production cost, so make each sticker count).

When I am looking for images I use Google Image Finder. If you go to Google http://www.google.co.uk/ig?hl=en (http://www.google.co.uk/ig?hl=en) on the top left corner you'll see some tabs (WEB, IMAGES, VIDEO, MAPS, NEWS etc, etc) select image, then enter your search requirements. A page of images will pop up, and you have the oiption to see a selected image in full size, just save the images by right mouse click (Save Image As) to your desktop or on your hard drive and there you have it your own image library.

It helps if you type in the right search requirements. I usually enter in specifics like "Imperial Cruiser, or Death Star, alternatively I enter in variables like "Scifi wall texture" or "Hangar bay interior", you'll be surprised what comes up.

If you want my decals here they are...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/30029551@N06/sets/72157619465883345/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/30029551@N06/sets/72157619465883345/)
I will add more as I make them.

Also here is a link to an earlier tutorial I put together for my Star Base project. I used a similar tecnique, except with Mount Board it's much simpler. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30029551@N06/sets/72157614287992670/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/30029551@N06/sets/72157614287992670/)

Have Fun!!!

Yeah, good links!  I was afraid you were going to use the dreaded P-word! (photoshop)  I pretty much suck at stuff like that.  If I end up making "flats," I'm sure I'll be using someone else's design and just printing them out as-is onto the sticker pages.

Doc,

Yes, If yov'e never used Photoshop it can be daunting. No worries, if you want me to make you decals I will do so, you just need to let me know what scene you want to create. Once you've got the decals, the rest should be easy for you.

Segnett and I have been wanting to do this for quite some time, I think we just need a little kickstart.

Does this board have "group challenges"  Since we all seem pretty interested in the dio story/photonovel idea/process, maybe we could all start one at the same time.

HB, have you considered mounting bitz to the mounting board, to bring out some 3d elements?
Title: Re: Hangar Bay 94's Chill Out Room
Post by: DocOutlands on June 10, 2009, 11:37:20 AM
Narce, I prolly will for my own purposes.  I think Jules wants his as flat as possible for storage purposes and bitz will screw that up fast.

Jules, once I actually know what all I want on flats, youbetcha I'll give ya a shout!  The very first thing I can think of would be floors - ships, cargo-bays, buildings, whatever.  I'm going to look into some RPG terrain for textured/detailed floors to see what's been done already that I can use.  A variety of doors is another thing I know I'll be needing - everything from light-duty interior doors up to airlock/pressure doors.

Primarily, I'll be working on turning the Fixer stories into illustrated stories or photonovels, so as I reread/rework the stories, I'll be making notes on backdrops/sets that pop into my mind and I'll harass you from there.   ;D

Narceron,

In answer to your question, I have been considering adding detail to the mount board, but rather than bits stuck on, I'll probably do sunken sections, that way I can still re-use everything.

Another question I keep askigng myself is "how far do I want to go with this?" because apart from the set building, I need the figures etc etc, I need to drawer the line somewhere. Righ now I'm satisfied that I can create the sets at relatively low cost, and get them made fast. My priority now is to focus on the story, get that written and then continue to make the sets.

Doc,

Putting the stuff together for you should be no problem, if you supply me with images of what you are trying to achieve, then I should be able to design something suitable.

Hello all,

I'm a long time lurker but first time poster.  Dang though, I had to get me an account when I saw someone take apart the old Imperial Troop Transport.  See a couple months ago I had this grand idea to fix the sound effects on my old one.  The buttons actually produced sound; it was  just that the phrases didn't necessarily correspond to the right button, and they were random.  Well my grand idea fell flat and now it doesn't work at all.  Heck , I think it would work if I could put the thing back together right.

Hangar Bay 94, did you do a better job noting placement of parts within the sound effects device when you took it apart?

If not, no big deal.  Just thought I'd ask.  Thanks.

B.R Steel,

I'm glad my post got you involved, I fully understand why though, the Imperial Troop Transport is a unique piece of Star Wars Toy history.

In answer to your question I had no luck in repairing the sound module, but I did manage to re-use the battery pack and switch unit for the LED lighting I installed.
The other thing I learned is that this baby is a hard thing to customise, any colour other than grey or black looks odd. I intend on returning the vehicle to an imperial transport for later use in my novel.

All the best,

Hangarbay.

no, no, no, you want to profit from a hobby, that will lead to you buying more toys, :)

But if it makes you feel better, when you are all done, Segnett and I would love to trade you for some of those panels, since its doubtful we have the printer or the patience to mount them correctly, give it some thought.

Can't wait to see the dio.

Narceron, it would be a pleasure!

Just to give you an update, I was going to build a couple of cockpit sets today and as I was trying to design them I though I'd try using photoshop instead, afer all Geroge Lucas didn't build huge sets for the last 3 movies, he just used blue screen, so why can't I. Here is a taster of what I managed...

This is an image of a cockpit I downloaded:

Where's that "we're not worthy" emo when ya NEEEEED it??!??  I'm stunned.  Brendan is amazed.  Collectively, we are in awe.  Incredible work with the blue-screening.  Should I assume the cockpit scenes are coming from inside the ITT?

Sign us up for copies of the Action VI interior.  That should work just fine for a Ghtroc freighter interior.  ;D  Yeah, I'll be building flats, for sure.  I can see the seedy underworld/backalley sets, cargo bays, and hanger bays being used quite a bit.  Some other walls I'd love to see you do - once you have time, that is! - are shop interiors (esp. a small tapcafe and a place that handles droid sales & repairs) and control panels (esp. the small ones like sit-down video games that you see in the "pit" area of the Star Destroyers).

Oh, and if you could just copy the part of your brain that interacts with Photoshop and send it this way, I won;t ask for anything else...   ;D

I have a gunship, I was gonna try and hawk it to clonehead . . .

Hey Seg, you're a photoshop guy, snap some green screens for this guy

Guys, I don't have a gunship and I could really do with some images of a Gunship that match the shots shown on my storyboard. Ideally the images need to be shot outside with the sun at the correct angles.

I found images of this beauty on the net, it makes my customs look like crap...

If anyone can post images I'd be really greatful.

No promises, but I can try - I'm no pro model photographer.  What kind of background are you wanting?  (I'm assuming you'll be wanting to bluescreen it, after all.) I'll see what I can do later this week, as I *really* need to finish up my sniper team muy pronto.  I have the "Lucky Lekku" and the "flying mouth" gunships - which would you prefer?  I also assume you want pretty much just the gunship in the shot, as near to filling the screen as possible?  Do you want troops in the bay or an empty bay?  Cargo doors open or closed?

Doc,

Images come out far better if they are taken outside with the sun at the correct angles, that way I don't need to rely on filters too much in the editing process and the light looks more realistic.

In terms of background, don't worry about blue screen, if you take good enough images I can cut the image of the ship out without a problem. If the weather is good where you are just take the shots at sunset.

Why don't use CGI software ?

I'd love to be able to use CGI software but I've never used it before. Plus the effects look more "real" if I use iimages of real vehicles.

CGI for background only, with some ships flying truth the sky (example)...

Jules, I doubt these are very close to what you need - I think I got the flight angles reversed, as I shot outside without printing out the storyboard.  Let me know what I can and should change to get the shots to where they are useable.

Clonehead, I can't take any credit for that image, apart from altering the colour of the backdrop to suit my story's time of day. As part of my novel I'm having to trawl the net for images, and I just stumbled on this one.

Ahh, thanks Doc, I didn't know you cared!!!

There is going to be a longer gap leading up to the next part mainly because I have some new characters that are being created by a famous customiser I wonder who it is? ;)

ALso I've been roped in to starting a "Beaver Pack" (No it's not something rude) it's the mini version of the Cub Scouts, so I've got lots of homework to do..plus I've just landed a huge contract for my business www.julianmaurice.com  (http://www.julianmaurice.com) so all the fun I've been having, due to things being quiet, is about to end.

I'm going to take my time and create a much longer story next time, so it will be worth the wait.

Thanks D.R.S,

I've been really working hard on the next part as the story really starts to kick off. I want to bring in a few surprises and an element of suspense. Focusing on the writing is really hard, so last night I took a break and put together my first image for the set.

I'm going to try not to show too much stuff from the naxt part, just some customs etc as I want to keep the story under wraps.

As this is fast becoming my favourite SW site, I thought I'd post my WIP on the novel here. You won't see these images anywhere else until the story nears completion.

I am overwhelmed...I seem to be a Seargent! I like the sound of that...

Hi folks, I've been very busy workwise so I haven't been able to devote as much time as I'd like into having fun (Know what I mean?)

As I'm waiting for some customs to arrive I've been shooting the Novel using the materilas and figures I already have.

Also "C.G.I." guy Ron is designing a couple of new Early Imperial ships for some of the new characters, which I'm really excited about. As far as the story is concerned I've been looking beyond the next chapter and planning the two after that, just rough ideas, but it's evolving very nicely.

Here is a nice piece of eye candy for you. It is one of the images for the Underworld Chapter...

Thanks for listening!

where did the treads go, man?

I loved the vehicle when I was younger, the color was off, but you sure fixed that.

that is the paralyzer/sonic boom tank, right?

Looks great if it is, :)

Cheers Tamer...

I've noticed that it's a bit quiet on the creative engineering front, so I thought I'd add some more images that could hopefully inspire.

I have to thank Doc Outlands again as his work with Polityrene gave me the idea for this set, it's amazing what you can do with bits and pieces you find lying around, and the best thing is that it takes hardly any time at all to put together an interesting diorama.

The only new pieces I needed for this diorama were the 2 sections of polistyrene which I sealed with an acrylic lacquer and painted with an airbrush. The bar is a long girder piece I made up as a set filler, there is another filler piece and the floor which I use for loads of other sets, which also used to be the Death Star floor from an old diorama. I printed off some decals using textures I'd created previously and stuck them to the Polistyrene pieces, this adds to the depth of field when photographing a scene.

Using close up camera techniques blurs out the background, hiding any imperfections, leaving suggestions of what lies beyond the focal point.

Here are some more images of the set.

Guys I am touched by your support.

From feedback, I'm making a couple of changes, the first is that the next chapter is going to be a lot longer than the last two, I've also had some people saying that they feel that the talk bubbles take away semthing from the images, but as I like the comic book concept I'm trying to enlarge the images and reduce the size of the talk bubbles, that should be a good compromise.

Th next part will also be featuring more locations, a space battle scene and 2 fight/gun battle scenes and I'll be introducing a host of new characters. So far I've done all of the writing, built 4 out of the 8 sets (perhaps I'll do more blue screen stuff) and have created some customs (I've posibly got 2 more custom characters to make). At a push I'm about 8 weeks away from completion (that's if I get my customs from Doc within the next couple of weeks). I'm feeling a lot more confident about my abilities to put into pictures what I see in my mind, but the next chapter will involve some pretty detailed and time consuming set pieces so plase bare with me.

All of this work has kept me from seeing other peoples work so I apologise if I've not been as active in posting elsewhere, which is very regretful, especically as I love reading comments on my own posts.

I'll keep you guys up to date on developments with images and stuff, in  the meantime, thanks for all of the Love!!!

Tamer, PM on it's way re the set giveaway.

PM recieved and repsonded to Jules. And I do not agree that the comic bubbles take it away. I like the look and do not think it detracts from the image in the least. course that just my opinion and I know everyone has one.

Jules, I think it's just that your images look so good that everyone wants to see every little detail in them. Kind of like me wanting to see a movie in widescren format instead of pan and scan on a tv.
Let's face it buddy, your photo novels are the most polished and best presented ones out there in my opinion.
Keep up the great work!

Came up for air and a stretch from the paint-bench and saw the puter had finished loading the vid, so I gave it a watch.  Fantastic!

Ha - with Tamer, Wraith, and now Jules shooting vids, perhaps we should start "This Old Death Star"?   ;D

Quick update - fig#1 is done except for a head, sitting off as sealer dries on a touchup and hands.  Fig#2 is waiting on those replacement hips to dry for final sealing so it can move on to assembly.  The heads are still underway, but they both have eyes now.  Next up is the hair basecoat, followed by the "aging wash" to put some gray *in.*  The belt and saber seem to be a smashing success.  I need to trim the mounting stud off the hilt, but that's a matter of a few seconds after the superglue dries on the hanging-ring.

Painting the replacement hips went *very* well - by now, the new technique I started out with has become quite familiar and things went smooth and fast.  Big thumbs-up there.

I also see I need more paint-brushes of any given size so I don't encounter "brush fatigue" as often.

So, depending on how quickly the sealer dries, the lads will be heading to their new home shortly and get put straight to work!

Ok, back into production...

The first fig is D.O.N.E. barring any strange surprises.  The head went to the paint-rack about 2am for a sealing coat.  Head #2 will be finished up after breakfast (which is late, since I went to bed late) and sealed.  The arms and legs got assembled last night - I believe the arms need *minor* touchups and resealing, which will be done alongside the head.  The saber hook and hanger turned out quite nice - can't wait to see how it looks on the assembled figure.

I'll have a pic of Fig#1 posted in my Gallery after breakfast.

Its been a great few days on this site, Psyclone has personally destroyed my confidence, but I  must dust myself off and press on with my mission...

My friend over in Canada Ron2k3 has been putting together a CGI ship for Commodore Vasq, this is a completely new ship design in the Star Wars Universe, made especially for the Novel.

The story goes that it was originally designed as a T-wing Assault Carrier, but was rejected for the Venitor All Purpose Destroyer. Vasq commendeered the only prototype and has converted it to his personal specification. When this baby turns up, be afraid....very afraid.

At the moment the ship is going through it's final design phase, I've added the hull detailing which Ron will CGI on for me.

I hope you like...

That's what it reminds me of!  Pretty cool looking.  I've been following HB94's work with customs and the photo-novel and it's all looking really nice.

Ron's adding Tie style radiator panels to the side fins and turbo lasers to the front hull section. I think I might call her the "Spectre"....I'll post an update shortly.

P.S I have really been enjoying snooping about in the Customs Section over the last couple of days...

Ron and I have been working on the "Spectre", I wanted to see what it would look like with Tie Fighter type radiators, an indication of the Imperial Ship designs to come.

We've still got some major "Turbo Cannonige" to add yet, but I'm plesed with the overall design. It's a bit different to the norm, but that's what I'm trying to achieve in the story, something a bit different....

Well, where do I start?  First, your Photoshop skills are absolutely fantastic!  The lighting and atmosphere in your pics is just amazing.  Really gives depth to the whole thing.  I may have to try some of that out with some final photos of some of my work to really make it shine. You certainly have an eye for lighting.

That Imperial Landing Pad is one of my favorites.
Title: Re: Hangar Bay 94's Chill Out Room
Post by: hangarbay94 on August 18, 2009, 12:35:10 AM
Why Master Psyclone you are most gracious. , my meagre offerings are but an omeba on the germ that insfests the armpit of the grungemuite that feeds off the underbelly of the flea that resides on the poo that is being eaten by the of the dung beetle when compared with your fine, fine work. But heh, the Landing pad is quite cool.

Actually your Tower base and Josh's Imperial Platform (link: http://www.yakfaceforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3785 ) are my favourite creations I've seen anywhere. I particularly loved the detailing around your tower, I must say that it puts mine to shame, it must have taken you ages.

I have got plans for a small Speederbike garage and chickenwalker platform which I started a while ago but has been sidelined for the photonovel, I'll probably get it started again afterthe next chapter is complete.

Thanks for your post, and it's really great to see you here.

All the best,

Jules

I have to let you into a little secret, I didn't design the ship... It's a ship that was used in the fan film Star Wars Revelation, if you've never seen it, you must, the special effects are as good as you'll see in any Star Wars film. The acting leaves a bit to be desired, still most of it's better than Episode 2. A must see...

Dowbnload the full movie here: http://www.panicstruckpro.com/revelations/

Just to give credit where credit is due my image above was the combination of 3 elemets, 2 background images created by other artists and my own figures. All I do is photoshop the elements together to create the look I want. Here are the original images:

Just as a little treat, I'll let you have a peek at a small selection of some of the interesting images I've found for ships that I intend using later on in the novel (yes, this novel is going to go on for a while yet...

I've always loved spacecraft designs and I''m going to try to incorporate craft that are not seen in the movies as much as possible, just to give the novel an extended universe feel.

The winged shuttle is an awesome design, some of the work done on Revelations even surpasses some of the visions seen in the Star Wars saga. I also particularly like the Jedi Corvette, I think I'm going to use it as Commodore Vasq's private transport. I'll call it the " Belligerent"  or something like that...

My post seems to be moving in all directions right now, it's kind of gone off the rails as far as Dioramas go, but it saves clogging up the forum with lots of posts here and there.

My good friend Ron Foskett is working on the Spectre, poor man, I bet he didn't realise what he would be letting himself in for when he offered to do some free CGI stuff for me. He's not really a Star Wars fan, but he seems to be getting giddy about this little project.

I've been HangarBaying his 3d images and this is what we are up to with the Spectre...

I must say that she's got a very British Sci-fi feel to her, and she looks as though she's come from a great Space Opera. Although she's not really a true Star Wars design, there is something very Cinamatic about her...

I'll keep the updates coming.

Really great finds once again and I cant wait to see how you implement some of them.
Have you thought of how you are going to release all of this in the future.... like  in on ongoing e-book novella or something. ... PDF format.....
I am sure others would really enjoy this as much as we all are here.
Keep up all the great work and we will keep up the praise....

For those of you who are dying to see the next chapter, I've got some good news and some bad news.

The bad news is...It's going to take a bit longer to finish than I thought...

The good news is....The last chapters had 20 images each, the next one could have well over 50...I've been reviewing my story notes and I've got tons of dialgue to shoot, so please be patient.

In the meantime I'll be adding images and resources as I progress.

Very good design-work on that LAAT - can definitely see a progression from the original gunship towards the Sentinel and Lambda designs.  For my personal taste, it looks a touch too "slab-sided," but that's not at all a knock against the design.

Sad you didn't make the gunship... I like it, it's like Shuttle Tydirium meets a larty (republic commando reference, there)! I like the gunner pods on the wings, it makes me laugh thinking how much it would suck to get stuck in that job, because based on the scale I can't imagine there's any way out of those pods in-flight, because those wings don't look big enough for a crawl space... talk about a claustrophobic mission! Good views, though :-D

That is great looking stuff, and you are modest too.
I dont think the weapons pods are manned, like the ones on the wings of the Gunship are not manned. Just the ones off the sides of the crew/cargo compartment are manned. that would be the worst job in the Galactic Army if they were, below Sani-Can Man IMO.

Hi folks,

Here are some of my latest images to come out of the Hangarbay... I recon that Darkchild Act 3 is going to have 100 images, it may have to be posted in 2 parts, kind of like a "to be continued..." type afair. It's just that this is where the story gets interesting and you'll be meeting some great new characers.

As a spolier all I can say is that Zen Montari is in some deep doo doo.

Here are some images taken from last weeks late nights in the Hangarbay.

You must be one of the most talented individuals to grace the forums.
Can't wait to see your next photo novel.  I can smell the anticipation, and it smells good.
You always deliver better than anyone can expect. These statements didn't put too much pressure on you, I hope.

Hi folks,

I've been away for a few days, but it's great to see some activity on the Dioramam's forum.

I'm getting closer to completing Darkchild Act 3, but it's like running a race, I'm on the last lap and it's painful...I've put so much into it, I'm knackered....Well, at least the kids are having fun playing with the sets.

And here are a couple of my favourite images from last nights work.

As always thanks for keeping an eye on my post.

here it is boys....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmNJy2RD2yo

Ok guys, the wait is almost over...my gosh am I building this up!

I've got the hard parts out of the way now it's the fun part of putting together the final scene and I'm done (until I get started on Act 4 that is).

This is going to be the last teaser before release and I'm going to retire into my shed to hammer the final pieces together, so I'll be dissappearing for a couple of weeks so that I can get my head down, (I've got my brown belt test for Karate (Kong Soo Do) this weekend so I've got loads of practicing to do, I'm starting the Beaver Scout Group tonight and I've got a business I'm supposed to be running as well) so I'll see you all soon.

Jules.

Good news folks, Darkchild Act3 is ready....

I've decided to release it in a movie format with musical score, I really enjoyed putting together the trailers and thought why not try it in that format.

As I'm going to have over 100 images for the next chapter (Act) it should give me enough for 3 maybe 4 ten minute movies....Sounds cool?

I'm uploading the first movie now and I'll try to post a new movie every week or to until I've completed the Act.

I really appreciate everyone's support and I hope you enjoy the movies.

All the best,

Jules

Act 4 is complete, yes another 50+ images and a couple of movies are on their way. This will see the conclusion of the first chapter of what I hope will be a continuing saga.

Ahh, Luke you are now on my Christmas list, thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.

As far as my videos go I really have not had as much time as I'd like to devote to all things Hangarbay, my business needs me so I have had to shift focus for a while.

I am in the process of gearing up for the next Darkchild Chapter, and I intend to go back and re-do and re-format the story so far, plus dop some more vids but time is limited.

I've also been working with Phatty and Tamer on the new look site, which was such a buzz, I really was so chuffed at being asked to submit work. I've still got some things to finish off so I'm not going anywhere.

Jules

I'm not sure whether this is a photonovel post, an artwork post or a diorama post....

Here is what I've been working on this evening. It's a virtual diorama for the next Dark Child Photonovel chapter, the images below show the different layers.

I'll be seperating the layers for the movie software and add moviement and blur effects, giving a greater depth of field.

HB,

What is Anthracite wash.

A pot of Revell Matt Anthracite, a wet brush and a roll of kitchen towel. Water down the paint, paste it liberally all off the item to be weathered, before the paint has a chance to dry wipe off with a piece of kitchen towel.

The paint will remain in the hard to access areas, making it look weathered.

Hi Diorama lovers...

I would have put this on my Photonovel WIP thread, but I didn't want to bump it up over some of the newer posts over there, so here I am.

This is my latest diorama/playset which I created a part of the X-Wing Alliance project I'm working on. It is mainly made of mountboard, so it can fold flat for storage. There is one small section made of foamcore, and that's the insert where the door is on the left.

I hope you like it. I've also go all of the decals for this and a floor plan if anyone is interested in making it.

:o OOOOOOOHHHHH! :o  That is looking sweet Julian! I love your photoshoped pannels, they have cool shadows and changes in light angles built in for such an awesome effect. As Doc poined out, I love the background filler pieces. I am requesting better shots of this stuff as you have teased my brain and photo receptors with a minor glimps of these pieces. They look very cool and I too wish I could find some Wal-e pieces at discount. Love the shot with Ace and the droid. I will show this to my young padawan when he gets home from Tae-quon-doe. By the way I have been commissioned by the little guy to fix up a red Evo Trooper like the one you did, Iget a big hug and thanks dad for payment. haha

Also wanted to say how much I have enjoyed your avitars over the last week or so.

Luke, it is such a pleasure hearing from you, I'll run off some images of my background stuff for you as soon as I get a sec so watch this space (I too have a background fodder fetish, I'm not sure who it was, but someone posted some amazing images of painted youghurt pots a while back and I just went all gooeey when I saw them).

Glad you like the Avtars..I might just rotate some more just for fun....

SquirePec, The decal sheets are a mix of different textures that I found on line, I'll have to post the decal sheets for you on my flickr account. I am mega busy at work right now so it might have to wait a short while.

Doc..aaah it's Sprywalker eh....I thought it had to be him or you.

Well... he started it... I just called your attention to it.

SPEAKING OF!!!  I found some nice pieces at TRU today - it is an "oversized/mega" set from Matchbox, something about "Matchbox Recycling."  Rubbish collecting trucks, crane pieces, etc just BEGGING to be snapped up and repurposed!  They'll have to wait a couple of weeks for me to get them, but I doubt they are gonna fly off the shelves.  I'll try and remember to snap a pic of the set next week when I go re-scout for the new EU figs.  The vehicle parts are quite large - they'd do as shipping containers with nothing but a repaint.

My god, I can't get enough of your Dio's!
But I think now it's time for me to go to sleep, gotta look after my 6 year old brother who wakes up in about 5 hours and my dad is about to wake up to get ready for work, he'll be pissed xD
Now I can go to sleep with those amazing dioramas as a guide for my dreams (i'm so poetic, I know! :p)

Dear Diorama creators... I need some assistance.

I need some images of the Hoth base interior, specifically the control room. I'd like to use them for the next instalment of the X-Wing Alliance web comic. If any of you have a Hoth diorama I need some close up images of background, control console anything...

Can you help???

Guys, just a heads up.

It is finally time to sort out my Star Wars custom collection, and some of the larger pieces are either looking forward to an extended stay in boxes in the loft or I find a new home for them. So I've put my Endor Landing Platform complete with shuttle and walker up for sale on e-bay. NOOOOOOOO! ---- Yes.

I've asked a good but fair price for the item and if it doesn't find a buyer it will be sealed and kept for grand children.

If anyone is interested please let me know or visit the sale here. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251372694016?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575055288&toolid=10001&campid=5337371631&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2F251372694016%3FssPageName%3DSTRK%3AMESELX%3AIT%26_trksid%3Dp3984.m1555.l2649)

Thanks Tamer!

Well, I'm also flogging some of my X-Wing Alliance stuff. (please don't worry, I'm still carrying on with the series, but as I don't use customs or props any more I might as well try to sell the creations).

I'm selling the Calamari Cruiser Hangar with Ace's X-Wing and B-Wing green. I'll also be including a plethora of figures from the earlier photo novel series.

E-bay here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251372861074?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575055288&toolid=10001&campid=5337371392&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2F251372861074%3FssPageName%3DSTRK%3AMESELX%3AIT%26_trksid%3Dp3984.m1555.l2649)

Well it looks like the Endor Platform is making its way to the US. Some lucky guy in L.A has taken it, so you folks in the over the pond keep your eyes open for it at the next Comicon.
