Title: JoeRhyno's customs( 2/1/12 Update-Robert Atkin's Cobra Commander)...
Post by: Joerhyno on December 17, 2009, 08:56:48 AM
Here's a guy I threw together for a practice mando.. I wanted to use parts I had laying around to see what I could come up with.. still a WIP...

gotta fix the helmet as it's made from soft plastic and the fixit is hard and it cracked when I put it on at the seam... :( Next time I'll use green stuff for something like that.

I want to add some gauntlets and something to the boots so his arms and legs aren't too plain... any ideas?

Nice work, Joe! The snap on leg armor from the apt. Fett might look cool on the legs.

very interesting custom figure

one idea, you can try to put a holster on one of the legs like the Biker Scouts have. I think it would look nice on your figure.

very cool.

have you tried using apoxi sculpt?  it is a two part self hardening sculpting clay.  It works realy well for this sort of thing.  I find that if it becomes seperated from what I'm working on it will super glue back on realy well also.   you might try that with your helmet.

everything else looks awesome.  I don't know that I like the vest assymbly with all the pockets though... Im sure once it is all painted the entire thing will pull together into something more uniform and mando like.

hmmm... maybe when I get some extra cash I can get a pair or two from ya... ;)

very cool.

Is it anything like Fixit Sculpt? That's what I used, I also have greenstuff, which I used below, I still love that stuff, and I should have used it instead, has more of a give to it... but this was just a "practice" Mando, lol.. so I'm not too worried about the helmet.

Nice custom!  The item that appears to be a rocket launcher sitting next to it is awesome!

That's his backpack, it's I think the space clonetrooper's baackpack with a Snow Serpent missle thing added to the middle. I have to extent the post I made, cause I originally fit it before adding the extra harness, so now it likes to jump off into that deep dark corner of the custom room... so I stopped putting it back on cause my knees were hurting from crawling under the table 50 times to get it out.

Thanks for some of the suggestions everyone... I'll be steal... I mean borrowing some of them, I took a break from the MAnDoNESS and finished up a custom for a contest...

I've always wanted a Tiger Force Snake Eyes, my fav character as a kid and my fav sub group, but I never got it... After seeing the Slaughterhouse version, I had to make a realistic one, but still a hint of Slaughterhouse in it.

So I hacked up one of those toy Tigers... then hollowed out it's skull, and then sculpted on some fur on the back to match with a cheap-o Chap-Mei fur cape. I then dyed the upper body a dark orange to keep the paint from rubbing on the joints, and dremeled out the body to fit on a 25th Joe lower torso and legs. Drybrushed the heck out of it... and there ya go.

I had a lil' diorama for him to stand on, but I had to put it aside to finish this. It had some grass and long weeds, hence his camo pattern on his pants, I guess it'll look better with him in the mini-dio and not my son's desk... but for now, it'll do.

I know it's not Star Wars... but it is an Anakin torso and upper arms w/ Vos lower arms...  ;D

I wasn't able to finish the black tiger stripes... shhhh... maybe they wont notice it for the contest, lol.

wow, that's right outa left field.... but left field is where awesome dwells....

that is crazy awesome.  I love the fur cape and tiger head.  Does it come off to reveal a human head underneath?  it is very reminescent of the native american tradition of wearing pelt's with the head as a hat.... it's awesome!
I'd like to know more about what the source material for the idea is though, maybe a refference pic or something?

If you're looking for some additional gimmicks for the forearm gauntlets try the fin blades of the Cobra Para-Viper. The should look very menacing on your figure.

That is an interesting Tiger Force Snake Eyes, I didn't even know that version existed. I had to put these on the fp, don't know why I didn't with that first mando. Sorry guy.

No name yet... I'll start back up on him today, added a ankly gun holster like the biker scout last night, but I have to make sure it looks good, if it looks too bulky, it's getting hacked off...

Thanks, there's no real source material, other than the GI Joe sub team Tiger Force:

They never made a Snake Eyes, ever since I was a kid... I was sad, cause he never matched my other Tiger Force guys(for those that don't know Joes, it was a way Hasbro could repaint main characters and bring them out again in later waves under a sub-team, Tiger Force, Night Force, Python Patrol, etc)... The contest was for a really, silly one that spawned over on Hisstank.com. The guy bought some weird customs off ebay, and they became a cult hit. There were a couple contests and I felt it was finally time to make him.

http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-customs/56267-new-slaughterhouse-gyre-weasel-1000-customizng-challenge-contest.html

http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-customs/51163-excellent-slaughterhouse-custom-excellent-look-like-contest.html

Careful, looking at those threads might question yourself as a customizer, or heck, even a human being, lol...

http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-customs/46353-slaughterhouse-cobra-black-regime-customs-tiger-force-follow-up-commission-whoaoa.html

Anyway, Snake Eyes is a Ninja.. so I wanted it to make him try to disappear like a Ninja would, but still some type of Tiger camo, then I saw a cheap clearance white Tiger toy... and I had to do it.  I did get the idea from Native Americans... and like I said, I had a small diorama base with a tree and some long/wild grass started, so I'm hoping to finish that to display him, should look 10x better with that done.

If you're looking for some additional gimmicks for the forearm gauntlets try the fin blades of the Cobra Para-Viper. The should look very menacing on your figure.

I actually had some claws from an older eel GI Joe character:

Again, I had to scratch it for now to get it done for the contest, but I'll finish them up this week.

Thanks guys... I use Rit Dye, stuff for clothes. You boil some water, plop it in and then put the figures in... same thing I did with these babies for my friend's Bday present...

I generally go for a darker color of my base color. So for the Snake Eyes figure, if you look at his Visor, that's the reddish orange I dyed the whole figure. Same with the Mon Cal Dancer here, a dark reddish color, and the Rodian and Gamorrean were a deep, dark green(almost black looking to the naked eye). Then I went over them with layer after layer of light dry brushing...

I'll look around for some tutorials, I know there's a couple out there.. I just wouldn't start boiling water on your wife/mom's kitchen counter top though... some people have stained their counters and floor with drips and spills, lol.. so be careful. I'd also get a cheap pot to do it in, and not your wife/mom's fav family holiday pot. Also get a mesh cup strainer so the parts don't sit on the bottom of the pot(They'll melt or warp that way)... I basically sit there like I'm frying some fries in oil, shaking them here and there to mix them up a bit so they don't sit in one spot too long... anyway, I'll look for a tut to help.. but I really love dying the figures I give as gifts/sell to help with the playability.

Here's one:

Did this for the prize for recent Zombie contest at GTG...

My lame back story...

After a distress signal was recovered coming from a Slave ship near Dantooine, a Shuttle with a squad of Special Ops Stormtroopers was sent over to investigate. Little did they know they were stepping onto a Slave ship that was also doubled for a Science Ship, where the Slaves were being tested on like lab rats.

Something went wrong and the Dead started coming back to life, and attacked and killed all the Slavers and the Crew. They later turned on each other till there were only a few left. Unlike your typical Zombie, these still retained much of their thought process due to all the tests and drugs their bodies were injected with. They were called "Smart Zombies", and would retain their old fighting habits.

When the Special Ops Stormtrooper Squad first landed, they didn't know what hit them, and lost two thirds of their team before they were even able to leave the Docking Bay. The rest hunkered down in their shuttle while the Zombies teamed up again and started to tear the shuttle apart so it was no longer space worthy.  With no other choice, but to fight, the remaining troops grabbed all the gear they could to fight it out to the death.

The Special Ops Troops were able to take out all but one last Wookie Zombie, and they were down to two troops. Who won? Which side was victorious? Maybe we'll never know...

The Wookie is from RotS, I dremeled down parts of his body, then resculpted his flesh and hair around it.
The shield is hot glue "sculpted" using the tip of the gun after it started to cool, to look like wood, same with the branch and the leaf is actually a think layer of hot glue, lol... all sculpted over an older GI Joe shield. Then some random droid parts added to the shield to reinforce it.
The Arm Bandolier is some random belt, with various older arms dremeled down, with hot glue used for the fleshy parts.

The troopers were TaC Stormies(I think), just weathered and bloodied. The flamethrower troop has a mask and chest piece from an animated space trooper.

The flames are all hot glue, again, sculpted with the hot glue gun tip after the glue started to cool.. man, that was a beast to make, lol.

very.... interesting.    Idk about the zombie wookie concept, but I love the resulting figure.  I can tell alot of work went into it, and you puled it off nicely.
I'll have to admit though that I like the troopers better.  Especially the flame thrower flames.  I've attempted to make one of those "hot glue flame thrower scuptures" myself and never could get it right.   That thing must be pretty heavy judging by the size!  I'm surprised the figures are able to hold it up.

btw, where did the actual gun for the flame thrower come from?

It was from a GI Joe baggie of fodder I got recently, I think the desert pack, might be the same mold used for the Dreadnok flamethrower...

The flames have a pole in the center to help keep it up that goes into the gun too. It's also hollow and was sculpted over a mass of aluminium foil, but even so, pretty heavy, lol.. There's a part of the flame I sculpted to stick out on one side and it hooks onto the branch on the shield which also helps... ;) but shhh... don't tell anyone I said that.

Oh look it's resident evil meets star wars, I am a big fan of mixing things into star wars - but was never a fan of Death Troopers (the new star wars novel, I think it is pushing it a little).

Now onto the custom I can't fault it for what it is, it has been done well and it gets the feel across. Just me personally I don't like this sort of thing in star wars it reminds me to much of resident evil, and I have never been a big fan of Zombies in any form.

However I know Joe is a great customiser and I have seen his other work on various boards so no disrespect meant to Joe here.

Bah.. none taken guys.. it was a fun custom for a themed challenge, that's all, it was either a Zombie SW character or a GI Joe one.. and there's been plenty of GI Joes.. my other idea was Halo Flood, cause they're kinda like Zombies.. but I went with my first love SW... If it wasn't for the Challenge, I would have never made the custom, but I had a blast doing so and hope the winner enjoys it as much.

Thanks for the honest comments.

Wow... haven't updated in over a year... :(

This custom was basically inspired by a member of the Spawn boards asking for some artwork for a concept to a 1:6 custom he wanted to make. I don't draw much anymore, so I thought I'd take stab at it as a custom figure using the description CC gave... I don't have a name for him or anything like that, but I had a fun time in the oh, 20 or so hours it took to make him...

Here's what was given and what I went with for the custom:
Quote
WANDERER
I am basically looking for a semi-scruffy "wanderer" after a major World War. Beard and mustache don't worry too much about the hair. Not overweight or anything. Was thinking of making him a photo journalist that is totally shell shocked and alone (post apocalyptic)

I would like him to have an army coat, cargo pants, and hiking boots with the top toe section missing on one foot.

I would like him to have a large military style backpack with a bed roll on top and an acoustic guitar strapped to the front of it. Various doo-dads can be hung from the pack(survival items, knife, old camping canteen, etc) Also a 35mm camera with lens, and perhaps a "press" badge

I would also like a clear water bottle with a goldfish in it hanging from either his belt or bottom of the backpack.

As far as head gear, I was thinking a gas mask, but that's kind of obvious. Perhaps some ski goggles?? Also perhaps either a fisherman's toque or knit beanie.

I would like him to also have a WW2 style rifle beat up and wrapped in various spots with cloth.

He looks a little big on the bike, but I think it's just all the gear, when I first made him, he fit pretty well on it without anything added.

Custom bike made from a bright yellow Miasto diecast Yamaha??? I added the extra tires on the end thinking he probably scavenged them along the way for spares and added a custom cloth seat cover, I'm sure the original would get worn pretty well after awhile, thought it was fitting to give it that look. Weathered and painted the rest to give it a lil age.

For the custom, I used a Rise of Cobra Desert Duke figure. I cut off the arms at the bicep and made a custom peg for the WWE build and Brawl arms, then added some random gloved hands.

The head was an older GI Joe Dreadnok head, he had a baseball cap on,so I ripped it off and then re-sculpted the head and hair. I thought I had a good picture of the head, but I guess not. After my batteries charge, I'll take some better ones in the morning.

As for the accessories, I tried to stick to what CC mentioned. I had a camera and I had a gun that looked similar to what he wanted, so I painted it to match, it's not the exact rifle, but I think it looks pretty cool. I mentioned above about the Goldfish in the bottle... I hand sculpted the guitar in the bag, I didn't think I'd be able to make one without it, and thought about the conditions he'd be in, so I just sculpted a bag and went with that.

For the backpack, took some GI Joe missile holding backpack, gutted it and added an extra part, then filled it with random stuff I found in the diorama drawer, extra bike parts, gas can, love fist(lil' spawnie inside joke... :D ).. things I thought one might need on a lone excursion out in the post apocalyptic world... I also added an extra gun and binoculars and a sleeping bag in the area the rocket launcher was supposed to go, just in case he got cold.

I think that's about it.. Like I said,it was fun to make and try to get it close to what he described, I hope everyone likes it. Thanks again...

-Joe

Here's another quick custom I did a couple months ago, non-SW, not really GI Joe, but a character that kinda was an inside joke/fan following on TNI's message board. Fro Joe. He was made from a PoC Duke with an older GI Joe head w/ sculpted Fro. Simple, but I love him!!!

I also did a couple pumpkin/Jack-o-lantern sculpts for someone late last year, I never posted them anyway, but I thought I'd post them here while I was in photobucket, lol..

The hat is actually for a different custom I sculpted, it was just for a funny pic...

Here's a couple of  WIP shots that I sent the buyer, one to get the okay on the main one before paint and then another group shot before sealing them.

Lastly, and then I promise my next update will be SW related:

I made this for a gift for someone in a gift exchange. It's one of those Diecast Tron recognizers, I opened it up and then added a LED Light and connector so it could attach to a Tree light for an ornament...

The recipient loved it and I had fun making it, I hope to make some more ornaments next year as gifts, so it was a cool learning curve.

Man it has been a while Joe. Good to see you were still doing customs, and some great ones! This is an awesome update! I love the drifter and that water bottle fish tank is off the chain...wait it is on a chain!

Yeah, believe it or not, I have about 12 WIPs that I started and set aside over the last year... just couldn't find the time to finish them... :( Then the next new idea would hit and I'd set the next WIP aside, lol..

The water bottle was the one thing that got me interested and made me want to do it. I sat there while driving one night for about 4 hours thinking what I could use to make it, everything from a sliver of plastic, to a clear tube that was always too big, even thought about taking apart one of the injector pens that I take for my medication to get to the syringe.. then I saw my son downing a juicy juice box.. and I was like.. SWEET!!! So I used the crinkle part of the straw, and everything else it Hotglue to make the tip and the bottom of the bottle.

Awesome update, Joe! Yep, that drifter must have been a blast to do and turned out really well. You should be proud of that one.

That fro joe is a riot!

Hey guys, I know I said I was going to have a SW custom update this time, but I got sidetracked a little. Sor that'll have to be for this weekend. For now, I thought I'd update with a couple older customs that I did over the last couple of years, and then 2 new ones...

First off is a cool custom I made for an old Challange from an old custom board:

This was a fun custom I made using various Spawn parts, Halo parts, GI Joe parts and then small tidbits here and there. I forget what the actual challange was for, I think it was to make some sort of worker/warriors in the future or something, I went with Somewhere int the future where people that worked in the desert turned their work gear into mechs and stuff like that. Like I said, I don't remember exactly the theme, but My guy had some mech and it sucked up ore(seen in the backpack) and turned i into a weapon of some sort...  I was moving stuff around on my custom desk, and saw this guy, so I thought I'd post a pic...

While I'm posting pics of stuff I did for Challanges/contest/etc... Here's one I did for the 3060 Challange. It was a what Slayer Design Studios used to be, they had their own world caled the 3060.  My guy was a speeder type rider. He was some sort of cop that patrolled the borders. I had a cool back story for him, but they took down the site... :(

The bike was made from a 1:18 bike, and a spawn figure, with tons of misc fodder from all over thrown in. The figure was a bash of a SW Imperial Knight on a GI Joe lower body with sculpted on armor and kneepads.  It was a funn project, I had two bikesa and bikers planned, still have the other one as a WIP somewhere, maybe one day I'll get it finished.

Speaking of WIP, found this lil' lady that I never finished, lol.. one day... one day...

Here's some older SW customs I found while in Photobucket...

Clone Wars Yoda!!! I made this for a friend that I did a couple trades with. he sent me a bunch of free stuff, so in return, I thought I'd make something different with the extra figures I had laying around. Used a Yoda, sculpted on the armor and then found a cast helmet and cut out the visor and there ya go... ready to take on some Clankers!!!

Here's one of my first custom clonetroopers I've ever made:

I cant remember what happened to him, but I think his ball joint was ruined, so I cut it off, slapped on a GI Joe head, painted it up, then dirtied him up. I love the way the blast mark came out. I think I still have him somewhere. I'll have to dig him out.  The head had a slash on it, so I made it into a cut, lol.

Here's a fun custom I made for a local friend for a Secret Santa Swap we did. It was a football robot guy, I cut off the Football head, then put in the upper half of a Stormtrooper, sculpted over the chest to give it more of a stormtrooper look and then painted it up:

It looked a little too plain, so I added the red, kinda help break up the bland whiteness, I like how it turned out, hopefully SlappyWhite(Clint) does too.

I did this for Amazing Mutato's thread (http://board.spawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=574622) over at the Spawn board. It's all Marvel Showdown parts, I think Greengoblin body and almost the rest of the body is Daredevil, The head is Thor w/ a WWE build & brawl hair. the cape was some random cape, I'm really proud of it, as it was bright red, lol.. all hand painted, as I ran out of white spray paint.

And here's the custom I just recenlty finished...

I started this last year and was hoping to auction it off during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I didn't get it finished in time and then it got put on the back burner. I saw it sitting there and felt bad, so I finished it up.

I started this before Kat came out, so I was guessing on the size of the Female Spartan. I wanted her to be a tad smaller than the regular Spartans, so I used parts of some broken Halo 3 Spartans/Master Chiefs...

My plan is to Auction it off and give a portion to Breast Cancer research and then the rest to my Mom, a breast Cancer survivor.  Let me know what you think, any feedback is welcome, good or bad.. ;)

Parts:
Head- Clear Halo 3 EVA
Torso Top- White Reach Spartan
Torso midsection- Halo 3 spartan
Torso crotch- Halo 3 Pink Spartan
Arm- White Reach Spartan
Upper Legs-One Master Chief, one Pink Halo 3 Spartan
Lower Legs and Feet- Reach White Spartan.

After getting some feedback from teh guys at the spawn boards, I made some custom painted shoulderpads with a custom painted pink ribbon, and then painted the legs to better blend in with the silver...

I don't know your policy on ebay, but I have it on ebay to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. I don't want to post a link in case it's not okay.. but it's not hard to find.... ;)

that's it for now, I'll have my new SW themed ones in a couple of days and then see if I can see what's wrong with my camera(everything no matter what turns out super dark, I think I messed up the settings)... :(

We have a thread where you can post links to you ebay auctions, Joe.
I was really blown away by the bike and rider. That bike is just cool looking! I liked how the faceless bacura helmet looked on that one figure.
It's pretty cool to see some more of your order stuff. You have a nice diversity to your subject matter.

Great work on the Breast Cancer Halo figure. I will do a separate write up for that one too.

Thanks Tamer, that's too cool... I'm gonna do a SW realted pink custom too, Stormtrooper.... Jawa... Wookie? Whacha guys think?

As for the One guy's back story, I'll have to see if I can dig it up. It was on a message board and they went under, not sure if I can find it or not.

This isn't really an update-update, but I thought I'd throw these up here. I got a new photo-tent thing with some lights. I had to add an extra light up top as the ones that came with it just weren't bright enough. After about 2 hours of fiddling around, I think I'm happy. I grabbed the nearest customs by my workbench and took some practice pics, let me know what you guys think. My friend asked if I wanted to do some reviews for his site, so I thought it was time to upgrade a little.

First is a Spartan I had planned about 2-3 years ago, lol.. using broken parts, I was going to paint him up like master chief, like a grenade just went off near him and he's half in active camo(a clear invisibility camo they have in halo) and half showing... I'll have to work on it now I dug it out.

Next are two custom I started for a lil' challange on TNI, basically a "what if" your favorite videogame or Movie character joined GI Joe. I chose Sam Fisher and Bruce from teh Die Hard movies.

After that another look at my custom pink spartan with a better pic to show her off...

And lastly a better look at my lil' guy on his speeder(and off)... anyway, like I said not really an update, but I threw in a few WIPs to keep you guys happy... :D

That didn't take long. I found my lil' back story, good thing I usually post on a billion different sites, lol.. The challange/contest was for one figure or vehicle, so I had to enter them seperatly, kinda sucked cause I was basically going against myself, as I got 1st and 2nd, lol:

New America Rift Border Control: Security Interceptor HG32 -

The HG32 is the main vehicle used for Rift Border Control, they're fast and agile and can be turned on a dime. They use a propulsion taken from alien technology and although dated, still the best small one man interceptors to date. The HG32 can run for 96 days(with intermediate resting periods) on optimal power, though it's not recommended and Border Control HQ often pulls them from service for maintenance after 80 days unless a crisis is in order.

Most HG32s are loaded and maintained on a daily basis by the driver and each unit can be specifically altered and adjusted for the preference needed.

The HG32 is scheduled to be retired in the next five years, where it's sister model the HG45 will take its place. Not much is known about the HG45, it's being kept under wraps right now until it's debut later this year.

New America Rift Border Control: NARBC Commander Jarvis Vasquez

Security for the Rift Border of New America. Veteran members of the Grand Army of New America are usually chosen for this role. It's a hard and long job, but someone has to do it. NARBC members are nomadic like, usually paired in twos, but sometimes experienced members take on single shifts. In higher crossing areas, larger groups or caravans are usually used, with teams of 6-12 total members. Small groups spend 72 days straight in service, then they have 15 days of "down time" before reporting back to duty. Bonuses are given for completing your 72 day shift with no breaks( i.e. accidents, injury or time off).

My basic idea is after a couple Nuclear winters in America, people migrated down south and were accepted in South America and basically Columbia and Brazil becomes "New America"... then, there's a rift caused where the Panama Canal used to be and instead of basically a Canal, it's a Canyon separating New America from the North... When the rift happens, these Orc like creatures start coming out of the "woodwork".. for now they're called "Gruggs" I'll probably go with something else, that's just what I call them in my notes. The RBC is created to control them basically... They hate technology, despise it and would attack people or vehicles so they were basically put in their place(The rift).. and kept there...

Title: Re: JoeRhyno's crap(updated 3/15/11 New photo-tent Update)...
Post by: Joerhyno on March 15, 2011, 09:53:07 PM
Sorry for the multiple posts, but for some reason, as I get enough text filled into the little box we're supposed to post in, my screen gets all jumpy and it's hard to add to posts. I don't know if it's my computer or the boards... anyway.

Finding this lil' back story brings back some memories... Basically when Trigate was around, they had a story called 3060, it was something like a game that took place around the year 3060. I wasn't too sure what was going on, and the guys in charge never really explained too much, but it was kinda open ended so you could add your own story to it.

Anyway, thiswas years later after a bunch of wars and such, so in my part of the story, after nukes were dropped on America, most Americans that survived were moved down to Mexico and South America. This was a story I had scribbled down for a long time, but was more GI Joe meets Terminator/Transformers and I kinda edited it to fit their story to enter the contest. In my story, there wasn't orcs or Goblins or anything like that, but in theirs there was.. so They kinda became my Antagonists or "bad guys" in the story.  I even started a playset for it using an old Batman Batcave... I'll have to dig it out, maybe finish my vehicle I started for their team and the other bike(though, I doubt I'll finish the other bike, maybe I'll do the "new" HG45... :D

Anyway, it was kinda cool finding this and kinda makes me want to dig out my notes...

The concept came from a little thought I had... Take a 1:18 scale die-cast bike, cut off the wheels and add some jet looking things to make a hover bike... that's simple, right? That's all I had in mind, didn't know how I was gonna do it till I sat down and started tinkering with my bikes.

I was looking at my misc fodder I had laying around, everything from car model parts, to SW vehicles.. and I was stumped, till I ran across a Spawn figure...

When I saw his shoulder pads had lil' jets in them, it all started to fall in place.. I started hacking and dremeling away at the poor guy and pretty much used everything but his head, legs and hands.

The body turned into the "engine" of the hover bike, and then I attached the die-cast bike seat to it... then a leg on the back, then, the shoulder pads on the sides, dremeled into the body, and I actually had them working and were able to swivel up and down and fold in and out for awhile(you can still see joints in the front view of it).. but it was too flimsy, so I had to lose the "articulation" lol..

Anyway, after that, it was just adding parts here and there to make it look used and worn.  I wanted the characters to basically "live off the land" while on the job, so I added a bed roll, some back packs and straps, the monitor to watch late night porn... J/K.. I dunno, but I thought it looked cool.. so I added it.

Anyway, I came up with the name cause at the end of it all, I probably used 10 glue sticks on that baby holding it all together.. something that I didn't start out wanting to do, but kinda needed to cause of time.. so that's where "HG" came from, "Hot Glue".. lol.. shhhh... don't tell the companies bidding on making them though...  :o

As for Commander Jarvis Vasquez... I pretty much had an image of what I wanted in my head, and usually when that happens.. it never turns out that way, lol.. but surprisingly.. this one did.. almost exactly how I wanted... it was kinda scary.

The Parts for Vasquez, while not as intense as the Interceptor, still took awhile to get right...

Head: Old GTG or Trigate I cant find anymore, lol
Helmet: Trigate Headgear #2 (http://trigatecreations.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=16_26&products_id=465)
Torso & Arms and belt: Star Wars Imperial Knight
Crotch: 25th Destro
Upper Legs: Wild Bill/Ace modded
Knees: Crimson Guard modded
Legs: Beach Head modded
Rifle: SW Senate Guard rifle
Binoculars: Luke? I dunno, SW though.

I had the basic look down, but I wanted the legs to better match the armored upper body, so I sculpted on thigh armor to kinda match the look and then sculpted the knee pads cause the bare knees looked weird and then I had to build up the lower legs cause they looked skinny after all that, lol.. then I filled in all the joint and screw holes cause I hate those.

I went with a green/Brown look cause out of the 4 test figures that were sacrificed while making him(don't worry, they were old crappy figs that I couldn't even give away a couple months ago).. out of the different color combos I tried, I liked this one the best, kinda the opposite you normally see(Green uniform, brown armor).. so I think it worked well..

I almost messed up big time and said screw it and threw the towel in, you can see the mess up on one of the legs, I had the figure on the table and spilled Acetone on the table and of course it went right into him... luckly only one leg was touching the area, but it still slowed me down having to repaint that leg and of course it not looking right in the end.. but time was up...

Oh.. and as I was getting ready to take pics, I noticed I never pained the boots, lol.. so I did some dry brushing here and paint wiping there and then said screw it and had to take the pics.. I think it turned out alright in the end...

There, I added all that, so in case the other site purges their boards or something, at least I have it somewhere... :D

Thanks guys... I use Rit Dye, stuff for clothes. You boil some water, plop it in and then put the figures in... same thing I did with these babies for my friend's Bday present...

I found this older pic on page two and on another site I found the actual breakdown per figure so. I  had to post it with the customs it goes too:

Parts list...

Doug:
GI Joe Bazooka Body, arms, upper legs
Wolverine, Weapon X knees and lower legs
John Cena shoes
Custom cast hands
Fit Finley modified head
Dr. Henery Jones glasses

The only real major mods I did here was to shave off a part of the lower legs to make them look like legs, and then sculpt on the "shorts" bottoms, also sculpted on some socks and then "shaved" Fit Finley's hair and slowly(took like a whole hour) stippled the stubble hair on.

Dancers...

Britney, the Gamoreean Dancer:
Custom Cast Gamorrean Guard head(2 GI Joe Scarlett pony tials turned sideways for her pigtails)
Yarna body, sanded boobs down and sculpted belly and shirt
Sculpted fur neck piece
Sculpted added fur on skirt
sculpted(hate them) feet

She wasn't that hard to do, mainly the sculpting on the fur, then at the last min I remembered about the feet, but my sculpting compound was getting hard, so it was ahrd to work with, not really happy with the feet, but I had to move on. The figure was then dyed in Rit Dye so it would retain it's color and not chip, then layer after layer of drybrushing for detail.. the drybrushing might chip or rub off over time in the joints, but the green dye should help hide it. The hair was a last min attempt to cover the horns, I'm not a specialist on Gamorreans, but I'm sure the females don't have horns, so I added it and hot glued the hair pieces into place and they turned out awesome.

Ima Trapp, the Mon Calamari Dancer:
Mon Cal head
Hands and legs cut off and fuzed to the Yarna body, then sculpted to match up
sculpted shellfish boobies w/shell from a Mon Cal shield for her top

This one started off easy, popped the head on, but then I found another mon cal figure, and he had massive lobster looking feet, so I had to attach them to the Yarna body, then the same with the arms, but then they looked silly human arms leading to lobster looking arms, so I sculpted onto the human parts to match up with the rest.. then the chest, like the others I didn't a slew of six boobied dancers, so I saw the shield, thought it'd make a sweet breast/belly plate then sculpted up the boobs to match the body and meet up with the plate.
This figure was also dyed before painting, then layers and layers of drybrushing, again, hopefully if some of the paint does come off at the joints, the dying will help hide it, here's hoping he just sets it on a shelf and doens't let the kids play with them, lol

Feeda, the Rodian Dancer:
Head and hands random Greedo figure
Body Yarna, with sculpted belly, is that a lil' rodian dancing in her belly, or one too many Bantha burgers?
modified skirt

This one was probably the easiest out of the custom dancers.. I basically dyed the body and then sculpted on the belly(again, to change them up a lil).. added the head and hands and then painted her up.. I did notice I forgot to paint her eyes.. so hopefully one of these days, I can fix that.

PS~~ I got the text box thing to stop jumping around on me, I clicked this compatibility view icon on i.e. and now it works fine.

Did this for the contest here...

Base figure is a Thor Frost Giant with older Marvel Showdown Thor lower legs. His left arm and leg is from a Marvel Showdown Colossus figure. His right shoulder ball joint is Colossus sculpted over.

I sculped on his pants and shin pads and then dyed the lower half of his body and his robotic arm black, I thought it'd look cool if he had a semi-burnt look, so I dyed half of his torso too. I then drybrushed over it and then used some fake leather material to make his cape and belt thingies. I noticed after taking th pics his belt buckle I sculpted on popped off.. :( You can see it in the first pic. If I can't find it, I'll have to resculpt it.

The lightsaber is from a cheap-o GI Joe rifle's scope, I sanded down the middle and then sculpted on the handle part. I then drilled into it to fit the blade on one side and then thought about the older KotoR comcis with blades that were connected, so I thought that would be cool. I found a GI Joe rifle that had pegs that would pop in and out, so I sculpted over them and then drilled a hole into another piece of rifle, sanded it down and glued it on the back of the belt for the power pack.

I also took some better pics of the Figures I made about 6 months ago for a diorama. I never took the pics, so while I was taking new pics, I thought, why not???

Obi wan was made with a couple different figures. I think the AotC Obiwan, with different upper legs, I forget who's, but someone with black upper legs, might have been a Luke or something... Clone arms and lower legs and then I took an old Vader and hacked him up and dremeled his shoulder armor off and then painted it white... splattered him up with some red dirt and he was ready to take a nose dive on Geonosis.

These were custom clone fodder. I dyed them one color and it didn't turn out, so I spray painted one color and tried a couple different methods to do the digi camo, and all failed, lol.. I was running out of time for the contest and didn't want to use animated figures, so I sucked it up and just hand painted them. I'm not happy with them, but they worked for the dio, the contest was for that anyway, not the figs, so I can always make better ones in the future.

I heated them up till they were soft as rubber and sat them down, they're the "dead clones" in the gunship, so I needed them sitting all the way down(something clones can't do well with their armor), so after heating them up, they were able to sit real well.

Pretty much the same thing done with these guys, Waxer and Boil... again, in the future, I'll have to revisit them.

That's all I got for now, haven't really done anything in a while. I did start up with miniatures again, mainly to make some Battlestar Galactica characters and ships for my cousin's game.. so those will probably be my next update... I'll try to get back at a reg customizing schedule, so maybe I'll be able to do other stuff too.. we'll see...

1-31-12 UPDATE

Thanks for the kind words. I don't have a site, I did start a facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/Joerhyno

But that's not why I haven't updated, lol.. I just honestly don't customize like I used to. I am finishing up a custom for a contest, I had to fix an arm issue, so I wasn't able to finish it, but it's ready to be reassembled and hopefully I'll get the pics done in time for the deadline. It's not SW related, but GI Joe, but I'll just keep all my customs in one area for now.

Here's a teaser pic:

I did start my own customs based on a lil' story I've been working on off and on for the last , oh, I dunno 20something years, lol... it always changes and isn't set in stone, but it was always based on people I know, thrown into some futuristic setting.. first it was zombies, but then zombies got HUGE, so I changed it a little, now I think I'm gonna go with something more like Matrix/Terminator.. not sure, I don't wanna copy other work.. but it's hard to do your own thing when so much has already been done.. so we'll see where it goes...  I started planning out some custom figures for some characters, here's two I pieced together:

The one on the left is going ot be leader of a group, kinda like a Biker gang, but I think it'll be more like just a group of survivors, he just happens to ride a bike. The one on the right will be "El Presidente", leader of what's left of the Americas... Like I said, a lot has to be worked out, it's mainly a way I can make customs of my buddies and family, and throw it into a story.

Anyway, I'll update this when I finish my Cobra Commander, I still have a couple SW pics that I took awhile ago but never posted them(nothing big, just a couple Hoth figs). Hopefully I can do them all at once...

-Joe

Thanks CloneHead... I submitted my custom, so I guess I can show it now. I was going to  post this last night, but I was up late and tired, so I thought I'd wait till today.

Here's the ref picture I went by:

There are a couple pther pics out there, but that was the main one, and one to give an idea of what I was going for.

I took this pic as a teaser pic for my friends... I'm glad I did, cause it shows a close up of the helmet. I'm pretty proud of it, as it might look like a rev viper helmet, but it's actually one viper helmet and then another viper head with the face plate dremeled out and hollowed out to fit. It was hard work, and I'm glad I went this route. I also had to do some modding to make it less viper looking, covering up the electronic plate on the back and then sculpting on the vents and teeth(that was a pain that almost didn't happen). Overall, I'm really happy with the outcome.

I'll copy and paste the parts breakdown from my entry, as it's pretty extensive. I think I used 10-11 figures for parts or accessories, lol..

Parts list:

Helmet- 25th Viper, dremeled hollow, sculpted back and sides.

Faceplate- PoC Viper, sculpted on chin and teeth.

Cape- top part, Resolute Commander, modded, trimmed and sculpted/bottom part, vinyl material.

Shoulder pads- 25th Wraith, trimmed down.

Shoulder straps- Marvel Universe Rogers & Indiana Jones pouch strap

Holster & straps- Marvel Universe Rogers w/ Spy Troops holsters modded

Upper Arms- Star Wars Rum Sleg, sculpted arm pouch & strap.

Lower Arms- Resolute Alley Viper

Torso- Star Wars Imperial Knight attached to Marvel Showdown Logan stomach, sculpted over to match armor.

Crotch and ball socket joints- Marvel Showdown Logan.

Upper legs- Resolute Alley Viper, modded to fit marvel joints, sculpted leg straps.

Knees & Lower legs- Resolute Cobra Commander.

I've seen a couple of the other entries on some of the other Joe sites, I can't wait to see them all together, hope there are a couple more surprises too.

awesome looking CC.  I love it. That concept art has been a favorite version of mine, and I'd love to have that helmet sculpt!  You did a great job on the parts selection, a great accumulation of parts from various lines coming together like they were built to be together!

Joe, that is one awesome figure! The art you showed for reference is just awesome and you have done a great job creating it in plastic form. Seriously great work and if you could buy this figure off the shelf I woul have to have one!
