Screaming Samurai Studio Modeler's Bench
« on: October 02, 2011, 05:33:47 AM »
Greetings to all Shipyarders,
I haven't been around..most of my time has been focused on work and getting ready for the new child..which we are pretty sure is a little boy. More on him later...

In a mad dash to the end, I am trying to clear my work bench and I have a ton to get through in the next six months.
One long standing project that is near completion is the Fine Molds Jedi Starfighter from Attack of the Clones. At 1/72 scale and at 59.00 for the kit..you can imagine the sticker shock and immediate buyer's remorse kicked into high gear as soon as I opened the box. Although they give you the hyperspace ring to help fill out the box, it's an accessory I may skip for now.
What you sacrifice in size, you make up for in tiny tiny details. And with almost no painting involved, you just need a good amount of decal set and you're ready to fly.
Here are some pics to get you up to speed with where I'm at in the process. I would say, 75% of the decals are placed I just have to paint some parts here and there, add the all important weathering and it should be ready to go on the shelf.

I am also near completion of a P-51b Mustang, specifically the Macon Belle, flown by Lee Archer. This one is for the grandson of the famous pilot who wanted this for the premier of Red Tails, the new movie by George Lucas. I just need to coat this with future and add some weathering to this.

In Addition, I'm also gearing up for the internet-wide Millenium Falcon build, which I can officially begin the process of painting, lighting and bringing my favorite rogue cargo vessel to life.

Anyway, more later. I may even be able to complete the giant 1/350 scale Enterprise Refit I've had on the bench now for over three years.

Wow, great update. On the front page.

And congrats again on the new addition. That is great news. Looks like another little customizer in the house.

Awesome update bro! Oooh that Jedi Starfighter does look small, but nice!

Great job on that Mustang! Looking really sweet!

And that Falcon is bangin! What is this about an internet wide Falcon build? It that the ETRL Model or what? If so I have one too! Still in the box like all my models.

Holy cow man, are you rebuilding the BMF or are you building a totally new Falcon?

The Millennium Falcon Kit I'm working on is the old MPC/Ertl kit that most of us grew up building. This version though is the cutaway Falcon that was produced sometime in the mid-nineties.
The build is open to everyone and to all version of the kit including the two Fine Molds kits and the Revell kit.

Again, thanks to Tamer and Luke for throwing this on the front page so fast.

Hey there fellas,

I had to take a break from everything and get a few things into perspective. But I have picked this one up again.

The Millennium Falcon. Some of the walls of the interior cabin have been glued into place and most of the fiber optic strands are now laced and glued in place as well. The next big step is to start threading the individual strands into the different tubes I have to glue to the back walls for the different LEDs. I intend to cheat again and simply cannibalize some Christmas lights I always get this time of the year at Lots Off.
But anyway, On to the pics..

Here's a shot of the nest of fiber optic strands behind the Main control panel.

And here are the put inserts for the exterior hull. Still with a silver base coat before I start painting on the weathering. I should have a video for that part.

Hey, Guys
As always I appreciate the fact that you've taken a look at my work.
This is another small update but the cabin has been threaded with fiber optic strands. Before I get everything together I'll post some more pics of the back side of the walls to show you the threading and sorting of the strands.
Tonight I also added the hallway heading to the cockpit and loading ramp and another test fit with all of the warm lights I've got. Not included is the ambient light that will be shining from all of the buttons. I also have some accessories for the inside of the falcon. Just to add some bits of cargo and trash.
And a couple of smuggler fighters to sit alongside the Falcon in my smuggler's hideaway bay diorama.

My Favorite pic so far..
