What led you to the Shipyards?
« on: November 19, 2009, 07:19:48 PM »
Hey all;

We have gained alot of new members in the last few months and it occurred to me that it might be interesting to find out what swayed everyone's decision to become a member of this, the most fantastic collecting and customizing Star Wars site on the net, where I have made my happy home for the last 2+ years.

What or who led you here or, where did you hear about us?

I myself, was invited by Tamer, Phatty, and Reconsgt right after the initial Shipyards was born.

LOL. Good one Greg.

Nice thread Clint. I am anxious to see too. We want to continue to shine that beacon so these good folks keep finding us. It is amazing what a little dreaming and drive will get you. You guys around from the beginning sure know our first pages and peripherals were low tech and I laugh when I think about how crude they are now. I still have to pinch myself that we do have such an active community from all over the world. I want to thank all the members for vouching for us and convincing thier SW followers to check us out and join. It is most, most, most appreciated.

We want to be a Star Wars home site, the place you come back to to check up on your friends, swap a little chat or blog, and just let us know what fun you are having with SW in general.  One of the things that got us going was the "you need to be a member of us and only us" mentality that seems to be out there with other SW sites. We like to think we are just a small cog in a very large SW community and folks it is my opinion that if we do not embrace each other and interaact and recognize that we are a community that we will see our hobby diminish if not loose it alltogether. Didn't mean to get started philosophizing, but thanks for getting us good folks!

...it was clonehead, he is to blame.

LOL

To be honest, I was probably only a few weeks away from just ditching all my toys and moving on to another hobby before I came over here.  I really enjoy how fun it is here, how family friendly it is, and just the general positive energy we have on this board.  I find myself editing a lot of my posts to remove potentially negative comments, just so I'm not "that guy."  Unless of course, they are about Spuda, then I rev them up a bit, :)

but thats only because Spuda is the other KY board member, :)

techically NFC, it's clint's fault...  because he is who got me over here.  I think I ran into him and his customs on e-bay first and we swapped respective websites, he sent me a link here and I sent him a link to st6.... lol

I used to get into work a little early and check out a bunch of "Action Figure" sites for news on new releases and such.. I would go to Scum, then ISY then a few others... after a while I noticed that there were A LOT of customs on the front page and so I decided to join and start showing mine. The rest is pleasant history.

My story is similar to Jay's.  I ran into Clint on eBay, checked out the 'Shipyards from the link he had on his page during the time he had the Ponds figure up, and I decided to join the yards.  Eight or nine months later and here I am.
