A Black Death Star Power Droid:

And some Updated Tonnika Sisters:

And here are some older customs.........

Hey everyone, I've recently joined ISY, and amazed at all the incredible talent and artistry, as well as kindness over here! I've been at Rebelscum for a while, started out at Forgotten Force and Curto's alliance. I used to customize figures, way more, but have been devoting my spare time more to dio building, but it all leads to custom figures at some point again!
My most recent was an updated G-3PO, which I noticed in a wide shot of the Hoth Hanger, at the beginning of Leia's pep talk....
I had done one years ago:
But decided he needed an up dated paint job:
And I called him G-3PO, the G for green, since I thought he looked a bit metallic green in the crappy photo I had at the time. Well, now, with a better photo, I still think he's a bit green, but not metallic, and idpullthecurtain thinks he looks bronze. So I updated the old figure with a bronzy/coppery/greenish look, for my Hoth Diorama (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=4465006&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=93&fpart=1&vc=1).
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/IMG_2484.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/IMG_2485.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/IMG_2486.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/IMG_2491.jpg)
He looks perfect with this Astromech, though I consider him and "R4" Jedi Astromech, and a bit too "prequelly":
Anyway, I've done a couple of figures for my Hoth Dio, and plan a couple more in the next month. Here's what I've done so far:
Toryn Farr
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/TorynFarrWS2.jpg)
K-3PO
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/K-3PDead.jpg)
Light Up 2-1B
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/LightUp2-1B.jpg)
And here are some older customs, from Hoth:
And here are some random custom figures I've done in the last year:
12" scale LIN-V8K
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/LINauction.jpg)
Yavin Ceremony Han
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/CeremonyHan.jpg)
Dagobah Arrival Luke.....(Before we knew Hasbro was doing him!?!)
AOTC C-3PO
(http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/ATOC-3PO.jpg)
And Here are some of the more popular figures, I seem to have received the most comments on in the past:
I have a bunch more custom figures over at Photobucket as well, if you are interested: http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ36 (http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii303/Droidworld/Custom%20Figures/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ36)
Well, that's it for now. Looking forward to spending more time over here, now that I'm getting used to it all......

You've got an awesome portfolio of work here!
I really like the look of the R4 droid, the damaged K-3Po, Mosep, and that smoke screen around the hookah on that last fig. Really strong execution on all of these!
Looking forward to seeing more of the same; welcome to the Yards!
-
WOW!!!
Really love your work!!!!
Great droids!!!! Welcome!!!
Hope to see more!!!
Rich
-
Haha, wow as always. ;D Did you actually insert a light into the 2-1B droid or is it lit from underneath?
-
most impressive portfolio!! great work, my friend.
looking forward to seeing more :)
-
WAY COOL welcome to the ISY. DH
-
most impressive portfolio!! great work, my friend.
looking forward to seeing more :)
Ditto! Well done! :D
-
That is some great stuff. Keep up the good work.
-
Very nice work! (I see what you meant about G-3P0, before you did the touch-up... It does look quite better, now.) Anyhow, welcome to the 'Yards, and keep up the amazing work!
-
Are the two girls supposed to be the " Tonnika sisters" ???
-
Holy crap, you have some cool figures there. I don't know if I can choose a favorite, How did you do the hair for the t-sisters?
-
Awesome stuff!!
-
Are the two girls supposed to be the " Tonnika sisters" ???
Yes, these are my current incarnation. I'm working on two more "up to date" versions.
Holy crap, you have some cool figures there. I don't know if I can choose a favorite, How did you do the hair for the t-sisters?
The hair is a braided thread I found at a fabric store. I'll be using the same technique for my newer versions.

see and I thought your skills as a professional hair dresser was how you did it...
:)

FANTASTIC SET-UP & COLLECTION :o :o :o
-
I am very familure with your figures as I have seen your older ones as they were made, but seeing these posted at one time is really cool. I love the updated G-3po, great green tarnished look to his coverings, I just may have to try that one.
Love the R4 astromech but do agree he has a prequal look. You should have a chat with Wtaithnine or resident astromech pro and get a designation for him so he can add him to the directory. Same with these other great droids you have created.
Love Toryn Farr and the gadget she is holding is scaled perfectly as is the wire. Poor K-3PO, but he looks spot on with the scene where he is damaged. Light up 21-B, just perfect!
Next, one of my favorites, R2-D2 with a properly scaled sensor scope! Well done!
The 12" LIN droid Rocks! So great and would love to see a tutorial on that creation!
Your Yavin Ceremony Han is exactly what Hasbro should have given us. I too have one on my bech and need to resculpt that collar.
Luke, the Tanaka's, Melas and the rest are all equaly great customs and I can't wait for another update!
-
I still can't choose a favorite but used one of the pics of your Tonnika sisters for the front page story.
-
Great stuff.
The thread used for the sisters' hair is perfect. Great idea. Really enjoyed viewing your thread.
-
I love the light up 2-1B. All of them are awesome.
-
Awesome customs :o
-
What an amazing portfolio Droidworld :D Welcome to the Yards 0/ I can't even begin to pick a favorite, but that Light up 2-1B maybe it!!!
-
Really nice work
-
Thanks Spooky and Sithhappens! Here is an Update for June 27, 2011:
This weekend, while cleaning up for a BBQ, I found a TVC See Threepio that I had damaged, trying to remove one of his arms. (I still don't know how to properly remove this guy's arm!?!) So, to make lemonade out of a lemon situation, decided to make a Tusken Attack C-3PO. (Luckily it was the correct arm I butchered!) A little sand, acrylic paint, baking soda and of course, Spooky's Hot Glue trick, and VOILA!!!

Threepio no!!! The first of many hundreds of star wars characters to lose a limb... temporary as it may have been. Great use of backgrounds, did you sculpt those rock outcroppings yourself?

Thanks halnarthax87! And yes, I carved the ground and background rocks out of pink styrofoam insulation, then painted them. I't's just a tiny section of rock, from an old bookshelf diorama. I plan on updating my Tatooine Exterior dio next year some time....
-
COOL!
-
some sweet shots looks like its right out of the movie
-
Great work! Looking forward to your next posts.
-
love it mate the sand glue trick worked a treat ,cant wait for more!
-
Uh wow. I knew your figures would probably be as great as your dios, but wow anyway. On the front page.
I also appreciate you providing me a sized animated gif that I could use on the fp too.
-
I am in such awe of your work, man!
Saw this dio early yesterday morning, but didn't have time to post until now: simply amazing stuff!
The attention to details in your dios is phenomenal: I loved seeing your process of how you give the Tatooine sands/sediment its look. This is high, high-quality stuff!
Threepio looks spot-on, with battle-damage and all; the work including his "rusty innards" is brilliant.
Awesome work; can't wait to see what you've got up your sleeve next!
-
That is a great 3-PO custom! Great job all around!

Ditto! :D

I'm going to repost something I posted at RS.....
theres something I want to mention about DWs figures in his dios.......
in this pic;
you will notice C3POs foot position, he is standing very much the way Anthony Daniels does in the SW movies. This is a detail that most people tend to not put in their poses, standing their figures in a natural or character accurate way. This is very important to the "believability" of a display, people do not stand with their arms and legs stiff and back as strait as a board. These figures are somewhat limited in a lot of respects of how they can be posed but they have come a long way in design and most of the newer ones allow for a HUGE range of natural and screen accurate poses....
Anyway, just want to point out DWs attention to this small but important detail...
-
Thanks Everyone!

Commented on the scum board but need to say it again 0 great work on the Tonnika Sisters dude - the hair effect is crazy! Thanks for posting these!!
-
Wow, what a great update. It is now on the front page.
-
Awesome goodness!! Love the R5 unit - would you mind explaining how you went about modifying the R5 dome to replace the 3 eyes with the 2 new ones? Also, did you slice open the torso panel to attach the hoses or use a body that already had a panel? That's a fabulous scene w/ the R5 hooked up to the ... whatever it is. ;D The other droids are sharp-looking, as well. Nice paint apps. And crazy mods on M's face! Did you start with a BAD RA7 head?
Tonnika sisters - oh, yeah. Outstanding work. Braided thread, you say? Seems I may need to go hunting. I can see Jenn- I mean the ROC Baroness face on one. What head did you start with on the other?
Oh, and I want to add agreement to what Spook said. Your posing and staging of the fig's make it look almost like a screen-shot - and that really is due to the natural-looking stances. That's why I really would like to see Hasbro revisit EVERY figure and bring its articulation up to what we have right now.

Xacto bladed off the 3 eyes of the Saga2 R5 head, Dremmelled a hole, filled it with sculpey, boiling water hardened it, drilled two small holes and inserted trimmed plastic toothpicks for the eyes.
The body is the Geonosis R2, which is a brilliant figure, and happens to have the same opening panel as the R5-D2 does in Star Tours.
And the M-P3X is simply a painted K-3PX figure, which I think looks more like the character in the comic than RA-7
And finally, the other head is "cover girl" from the GI Joe movie as well. Both with original "wigs" removed.
WHEW!!!! Hope I caught all those questions!
-
 Most impressive! I haven't seen that particular R2, I guess. :-\ Something for me to hunt down, now...
And I'm just striking out, because I expected it was a BAD head, not a SAGA2 head.
-
Awesome work on the R5 and your M-3PX looks fantastic! Did that head sculpt come with that fig or did you use another one?
Echoing SF's comments: the Tonnikas rock! Read on your post on the RS boards that you used duct tape for their collars...ingenious....would've never thought of that...they look phenomenal!
-

Thanks JediMerc! I'm guessing you are asking about the M-3PX head sculpt...and it is simply the the K-3PX sculpt. The R5 is a Saga2 R5 head with the three eyes removed, and replaced with two.
-
WORLD! Great update! I love the droids and may have to borrow your idea on the R5! It is simply superb! A must have for an astromech collector. Well done my friend.

Yeah, I was asking about the M-3PX head; sorry for the confusion. Thanks for the info on both!
-
Dig them fine Tonika sisters. Funny stuff with the jawas too, I love those little guys, they should have brought down the Empire in ROTJ... revenge for what happened in ANH. :D
And I assume the blown up R5-D4 is getting a new motivator there? ;D
-
I haven't encountered the K-3PX before - looks like it was in a W/M Droid Factory 2-pack? Is it a build-a-droid or a standard figure? I need to get one - I love that head-sculpt. (I see some on ebay...)
I also found a couple of Geonosis R2's with the panel - very nice. How did you go about removing the head so it could be replaced with the R5 dome? I leave my regular astromechs alone, since getting BAD parts is rather easy. (I'm considering taking a BAD R5 head and making it a binocular version then molding and casting it...)
-
To remove the head, I line up the head seam with the body seam, put the astromech in boiling water for 20 seconds, pop off the legs and pry the body apart through the leg holes with needle nose pliers. The head splits at the same time.
-
Wow, ok. I'll have to hunt down a sacrificial R2 and practice that. Thanks!
-
the tonnika sisters look great.
-
Love the R5-D2 (Star tours droid)!
Love the Tonnika Sisters!!!
Great work!
-
Droidworld,
This is one of the best updates I've seen... The comic book look you created was simply beautiful, I had to double take when I first saw the images as I thought you had copied the figures from a comic book and had shown us the original images. The graphic style reminds me of the original Star Wars comics from the 70's...magic, really magic.
The paintwork on the sisters is equally amazing, their faces look real...again I had to double take as I thought you had photoshopped the heads.
Stunning creativity my friend!
-
FANTASTIC ;D

Great video Brian! Such a great all around customizer and I saw a few things I had never seen before.
-
thumbs up for the Tonnika sisters.
-
Found a Jakks Pacific PT Yoda at a thrift store. Turned him into OT Yoda.
-
Great to see you back here!
Man, that is one awesome transformation.
Off to the front pages.
-
Thanks Tamer! Finally have some time and a backlog of customs to do!
-
That's an amazing transformation. Its great that you are able to re-engage with the community here.
-
Wow! Is this 1:1 scale?
-
He’s a weird scale. 18”. Yoda was 26”. Jakks made figures in 18” or 31”. Very few are in scale with each other.
-
Finally got around to these….I’ve had since Force Awakens blowout sales…
Could only upload 4 pics for now.
-
Wow! Those look spectacular!
-
Wow! Those look spectacular!
Thanks Starchaser!
Here are some more pics…
-
Wow, love that one on the left, but all are great.
Off to share on the front pages.
-
Thanks Tamer! And thanks for the consolidation.
-
You are welcome. That maroon one is outstanding too. Lots of paint work, especially on those torso wires. Awesome work.
-
I’ve had some sad Thai knockoffs of Japanese sculpts kicking around. Not the greatest, but good for some fun DROIDS…
-
Those totally fit the "Droids" show vibe. Fun!
-
I agree these just look fun.
Off to share on the front pages.
-
Thanks Starchaser and Tamer! Fun is how I see DROIDS too! Nelvana animation did some cool kids animation back in the day that aired on Canadian TV. It was unreal as a teenager to imagine that something Star Wars was done in Canada?!? The DROIDS vibe is very Nelvana.
