Store report: Toys "R" Us

Dresden, Germany

August - December 2018

Sat, October 27, 2018

The STAR WARS shelves were quite messy today. Two weeks ago I was there on a Saturday morning. Today I was there in the evening - employees were ready for the weekend and children were playing around with all the awesome toys. I tell you Christmas madness is in full progress! It was quite busy in the mall, also at Toys R Us and most importantly: PEOPLE ACTUALLY BUY STUFF! In stores - NOT online!! Take that Amazon!

Jurassic World

Hot Wheels

Mattel never fails by giving you value to the dollar:

And I'm always impressed by the size of their sets! Come on Hasbro! You can do that, too!

Today's special feature:

bruder

Bruder is a German Toy Company. "Bruder" is the German word for brother and they produce 1/16 scale vehicles, figures and accessories of a very durable plastic (which is almost completely recycalbe!) and of highest quality made in Germany.

If you want to know more about them, this video might interest you:
(sorry for the inferior quality - it's only 240p at best)

To me bruder is one secret champion! I know that my children will get from me some day...

LEGO

100€? NO WAY! 80€ - well that's more like it, but still too much...

And here is what I found for me today:

Surprisingly these Bricktober sets returned to Toys R Us! Back in the end of September an employee told me that they sold out immediately and they'd NEVER come back - back then (October had not even started) you got a free 4-figure set for free with a purchase of LEGO for 30€ or more. Today the same guy told me it was known from the beginning that these would return...very funny mister! I'm just glad I didn't shell out 50 bucks on eBay! Thanks for nothing!
So these 4 different sets are currently sold in stores for 14,99€ each - as long as supplies last. They are already sold out online. In the United States they are sold exclusively at Barnes and Noble for JUST 8 bucks! If I was you I'd buy 10 of them!
4 figures for 15€ just saved me a single bug compared to blind bag figures...not the greatest deal, but I will never find this LIMITED EDITION set cheaper ever again here...

Today Toys R Us disappointed me a bit - everything was messy and employees were quite naughty (which is reasonable after a long and busy week), but I didn't get my 2€ back I overpaid for the TVC Tank Driver 2 weeks ago...

Interesting report.
The Star Wars product range at Müller is pretty small compared to TRU. Same situation here in austria.
Are the 20% discount considered on the price tags?

FialaFernbrugg: Müller has got a MASSIVE selection of toys here! This store has two floors, of which one is dedicated to toys, media and games completely! I was very surprised when I got there!
The 20% discount were given on the regular price tag at checkout. So I paid 14,39€ for the Rebel Soldier.

Have a nice Sunday!

Store report: Toys "R" Us

Dresden, Germany

Sat, November 10, 2018

A weird and a bad surprise:

Just stepped into TRU on that Saturday and only made two new sights:

They put out two more TBS 3.75" figures from 2015. I guess they found them somewhere in their stock. I bought Jyn and Cassian for 10€ each ealier this year...

2x Admiral Ackbar

And here comes the bad surprise:

They received ANOTHER case of TVC Wave 1 AFTER they already had a case of Wave 2...and even the Rebel Soldier doesn't sell for 19,99€ each...

Horrible distribution everywhere...

Store report: Toys "R" Us

Dresden, Germany

Sat, December 8, 2018

My family visited me here in Dresden and we went to the mall. Good occasion for a quick update.

Spoiler: Still no TVC Imperial Combat Assault Tank...

They got Enfys and her Swoop Bike - nice!

And also the latest wave of 2-Packs:

Something happened to the TBS6 prices...

And even TVC figures dropped to a regular price of 15,99€ now! We're getting closer to affordable conditions, again...

And I finally bought my first own car! Toys "R" Us had a selecetion of premium models: Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Maserati...guess which one I took?

I am most happy with my Landspeeder...

Talking about value...

And I found another nice cabinet to display my collection on sale for 125€ instead of 215€:

More images follow as soon as it is delivered.
UPDATE: The cabinet was delivered right before the Holidays! I just posted new pictures of my setup:

Very nice display cabinet. Bummer on seeing more of Wave 1, I am seeing the same thing in my stores too. I don't think Hasbro or their Toy Reps to the stores are ever gonna get it right.

Thank you Tamer! I really hope to fianally get part of my collection on display, again, next year.

Yes, and I was shocked to see this happen in the U.S., too, even after Wave 3 was on pegs!

The cabinet looks really nice. I can't wait to see some pics with some Star Wars figures in it.
Congratulations to your first car purchase  ;).

I went to my local Toys "R" Us last Saturday and there is nothing new. The TLJ/SOLO figures are down to 9,99€ instead of 11,99€ at the moment. TVC Wave 3 has sold out completely and I do hope they'll receive another case. Wave 4 (Wave 20) would be awesome, too!
Enfys Nest Swoop Bike sells for 27,99€ here.

Store Report:

Toys "R" Us - Smyths Toys

Dresden, Germany

The end of an era...

It's been a while since I looked up the online store of Toys "R" Us. So when I entered toysrus.de in my web browser last week, I was surprised when I was redirected to smythstoys.com.

https://www.smythstoys.com/de/de-de/?trdr=1

So I did some research and soon found out the obvious. The Irish toy store, which bought Toys "R" Us Switzerland, Austria and Germany, has conducted the complete re-branding of all former TRU stores, now.
I couldn't resist to check if something changed at my local store, too:

The sign behind the entrance says: "We are reorganizing for you! Thank you for your understanding." Also cameras have been installed as well.
Apart from the new brand the first thing I noticed was the different way, products are presented now:

Most notably LEGO sets from different themes are displayed on top of the shelves, now. Most significantly LEGO's more expensive sets are both - displayed and stored up there. Same goes for other brands with big toys/boxes i.e. Bruder above the Schleich assortment at the entrance area. The Khetanna would look great up there, too!

TBS6 Zuckuss is available online at Smyths, but hasn't arrived at retail, yet. Overall the STAR WARS section has become signifcantly smaller here...

Most SOLO figures have sold...4 left

...wheras TLJ figures are still warming the pegs...about 28 left.

Jurassic World and MARVEL are doing okay.

Didn't spend much time at Toys - eh Smyths and made another quick stop at another store with new franchise either, which is comparable to 5 below, Dollar General or Dollar Tree:

They have a nice selection for craft supplies  there:

And also some artificial plants and decorations that might be suitable for model buildung...

Let's see where this path goes and how the STAR WARS brand does at Smyths in the future.
Most frustrating to me is - as predicted throughout ALL fan websites and forums - TVC Wave 1 is clogging the pegs and block new waves to be ordered...THIS IS MADNESS!

Keep hoping the giraffe can make a come back here in the states. Looks like you at least have a new store to go into to look though. My local store still sits empty.

That's a very interesting info.
I have not noticed that Smyths bought TRU Europe.
Thanks for the info.

Tamer: Well, I keep my fingers crossed! According to this article, chances are good to see Toys "R" Us return home:

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/02/11/business/toys-r-us-return/index.html

Smyths Toys bought all TRU stores in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. They are now rebranded, but basically the same stores with the same inventory, but different look. That might change in the future.
It's still a precious gift to customers that this Irish toy trader maintained these local stores - the legacy of Geoffrey the Giraffe...

FialaFernbrugg: I'm surprised and a little shocked to hear that my friend! :)
