That is the most realistic cantina diorama I've ever seen. Truly amazing your eye for detail and authenticity is. The lighting really sells it and the Tonnika sisters are amazing customs. Yes, very nice!

If you are not aware, when you use image sites like flickr they will give an image code that has an [img] tag in it. You can then post those right in the message post when you type and your picture will show up full size.

If you would like hit one of the moderators up to help you with that. I would love to see more, full size images of this! It is fantastic!

Hi, thanks for the tip on the images; I hope these are okay. I put the image of the bar in again because it's part of a sequence. Is there a limit on the amount of images (using code) in one post?

Hi, thought I'd share some images showing how my cantina is constructed. I made it in a way that a lot of the walls can slot together, so that I could take walls away to get close up photos, and also take it apart for storage. When it is all assembled it is about 4ft by 3ft in area. There is also an exterior to it, but that still needs finishing (mainly painting and details adding).

Wow Star,...before i thought it was nice but now i see its REALLY nice....

Question where did you get the bar and the fountain heads/pipes from?
Title: Re: Cantina model by StarAlien70
Post by: StarAlien70 on May 19, 2015, 01:20:45 PM
Hi Rezikai, and thank you.
All the bar is scratch built, except for the IG-88 heads. It's made from foamcore, flexible acetate sheets (for the curve), card, and the grey edging is strips of draught excluder. The distillery section is lots of bits of pens & IG-88 heads, thin brass tubing, and some metal rods that held magazines in a binder/folder.
Hope that helps. Cheers!

These are just amazing images.  The lighting and the camera angles really capture the feel of the Cantina scene.  This is professional level work.

Thanks for the images of the cantina parts.  You'll also have to reveal your light techniques.   I think you lighted the tables with little candle lights, but there were sconces and such which I'd request closer images of.

I'm loving the forest, but I'd also like to see the trees.   You've got some unique custom figures in there too.   The Twins and Swila Corey all look perfect.  The bar diorama and the accessories are also amazing.  I'd like to see the wall decos, tables and chairs up close too.

By a quick estimate,  you have about 10 pages of inividual figures to show off.

Please do.

Cantina chair and table detail:
I made the chairs from 5 pieces of foamcore; 2 sides, a back, a bottom and a base. Then wrapped a panel of Evergreen sheet styrene (2080 V-groove) around the shape, to form the seat.

I made the tables from the end of a Disney Mickey Mouse torch. I was hoping to use the actual light from the torch at first, but that didn't work out. The light is a battery powered tea-light pushed into the torch piece. The lampshade piece is from the inner part of a felt-tip pen lid, which is a snug fit on the bulb.

The base of the table is made from a washing-up liquid nozzle. The black circle is a sticky pad (for sticking under things to stop scratching surfaces) which was a perfect fit. I stuck this on because I needed a bit more depth to the base (the little square cut out, lines up with the tea-light switch, so it can be switched on by rotating the base).

More to follow.

I've also started a thread for my custom figures here: http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=9737.0

Your attention to detail is amazing. I was floored when I looked at the photos, but seeing the individual diorama pieces and understanding their construction makes it all the more impressive. Thanks for sharing your technique.

Here are some detail shots of Dannik Jerriko's and the Tonnika Sister's Hookah pipes:

These are made mainly from bits of pens. The top part with the fins is the inside part of a click pen. Part of the base is a plastic washer.
I think I also used a piece of plastic that is used to hold die-cast cars in place (when the cars are screwed onto a base).
The actual pipes are the plastic wire things that attach tags to products, I will probably replace these though, with thread so they are more flexible, and spend a bit more time on the pipes.
