What a great looking vehicle Doc. I love the camo paint you have applied. Can't wait to see it finished.

that camo is looking nice.. it fits very well with your backyard =)

Can't wait to see how it comes out, and yes my trip to Wallyworld today will net me one of these =) (if they have any)

Why go through life base fig, when you can customize?

Ok, you know the boat that's in the same line?  I have one that I had *intended* to pull the guns from and remount them on the IFT.  I pulled the guns, no prob, and kept the boat because, as all us customizers know, "Hey...I could use that."  Well, I'm trying out an alternate approach to painting the camo on the bottom of that boat.

(btw - I should have at least "rough-in" engine pics later tonight on the UCAV, so stay tuned, y'all!)

Masking Tape Camo
« Reply #37 on: November 27, 2009, 03:51:16 PM »
Well, I took a shot at it today!  Here's some pics courtesy of 'Station staffers.  I used the CORPS! boat from which I'd stripped the guns.  I started with some strokes of Khaki, which I let dry then applied some "feathered" masking tape over the top of it.  Then I hit it with the gray primer and let *that* dry and applied masking tape strips over *that.*  Finally, I sprayed on the Satin White.  Once that dried, I peeled the tape!

But you want pictures, I'm sure...

FINE!!  (there's even a video...)

And here's how it turned out.  I think this may be an interesting approach for that INT-4 ski-speeder I mocked up a while back...

UCAV updates

Let's continue, shall we?   ;D  I'm thinking it'll be done by the contest's deadline at this rate!

Here's some of the vehicle's interior details - diamond treadplate flooring, consoles on the forward screen and at both crew stations, and a couple of thieving Rebels stealing our vehicle!!

UCAV engines

ok, I promised at least a rough-up of my engines idea this evening.  Well, you'll be getting considerably more than that, as it turns out!  Here's the first mock-up of the engine pods from side and front.  I liked the overall appearance, so rather than overhaul the direction I was heading, I simply started refining.

UCAV engines

So let's look at the engines, ay?

Fig1 - left is my engine, right is the stock engine minus the rudder.

Fig2 - the original mod in the rough-in, a pair of film can lids!

Fig3 - They press in snugly.

Fig4 - Here's my first refinement, I pulled the film-lid off the front of the engine and press-fit it in place from the INSIDE!

Here's a frontal shot of the two different styles, one with the lid on the outside, the other on the inside...

So the four engine "donuts" are outside on the paint-rack, their khaki paint drying.  I need to clean up the other parts so they can be painted as well.  The outer parts will be getting a camo-job similar to what the body got.  I need to clean up the black "sleeves" and get them painted tonight, too.
