Title: Rex Smoke's Tatooine
Post by: rex smoke on January 21, 2013, 05:31:14 PM
Hi, still kinda new here but I thought you may like to see my WIP tatooine. I've been working on this for a little while now and thought it was looking good enough to post. This is a hug project for me(total of 40 square feet) and it's a little tough too since it's kind of my first dio. I cant work on it as much as I'd like either because of the homework I get from my teachers at school(I'm only 14). I'm open to suggestions too.(especially ones for jabba's palace) Hope you like it! ()rr
P.S. I'm looking for a VC ponda baba, VC Dr.Evazan, Hermie Odle, and those creatures from the Jabbas court denizens pack so if anyones got any up for sale or trade, maybe we can work out a deal.

This is a very cool project! Your Cantina is off to a good start. I would suggest looking thru the diorama threads of others to gain this info you are looking for. You can also see how others handled designs before you go further. If you have specific questions just ask.

Model Railroads were my interest at your age but there was no Star Wars in 1974. I agree with LS. Your start with the Cantina looks great I would focus on that till you complete as to take what you will learn onto the next scene.

Jabbas palace as far as that goes I could use a clue. Yes so far I have started 3 of them. The first two went to the scrap heap and have since been cannibalized

The third (a shelf version) is Shelved but with parts intact in the back of the shop.  :-\

Don't be afraid to stop and re-access just to complete something that isn't coming out the way you want it or you come up with a better Idea or like me get so far into a project that even major surgery won't help it and move on to the next project until the right idea emerges. (15 years and waiting)  :(

But that's just me.. :D

BTW: Many of my finished works include cannibalized parts from previous projects so save them. Sometimes right part, wrong project.  ;D

What did you use for the rock walls in the rancor pit?

Rex the first thing I did was build the box. Then I used great stuff, spray foam insulation, to form the rocks. Start at the bottom and do about 6-8 inches tall at a time. Let that sit overnight to see how it expands, then do some more.

Title: Rex Smoke's Mini Dios
Post by: rex smoke on January 26, 2013, 06:38:58 PM
This first one started out as a texture test for my larger Tatooine but turned out as a mini dio of the Mos Eisley streets. This is still a WIP, I need to paint and touch up the door and pipe pieces.

Today I just plastered it to the ply wood after I did some rearranging. The bar and tables are now in place. Next step: finish plastering the cantina and furnish the booths.
