Hi Yarders,
for those who are interested in my other Star Wars related artworks - beside the action figure composites - I will showcase some of them in this board still focusing on digital composites.
One of my most extensive pieces to date is Jedi-Master Tohno beeing more painting than composite...
She was back cover girl on issue #57 of the German Star Wars Fan Club magazine.
Hope you like her. Please feel free to ask any question.

That is absolutely stunning! Such great colors and scenery., shadows and light, all lending themselves to an incredible work of art!

thanks a lot, Phatty,
and THx for overlooking the fact that I didnt got the proportions of the figure right ;)
-
wow! the detail and lighting is incredible!!
-
I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure I am believing what my eyes are seeing...
Did you create that image yourself? is it a digital painting, or a manipulated photo?
I also looked at some of your other pieces of work, the imperial officer was one that particularly stood out, again, is it a manipulated photo, or a digital painting?
I really cannot believe your talent, I'm am soooooo impressed!!!

well, part painting, part of photo or better photos:
Tohno= the background and some pieces of the foreground are coming from photos, though I did paint the lower third of the background mountains and blend it with the photo. Her face, or better parts of it like the eyes and mouth are from a photo, too, all the rest was painted digitally by me. The pose was inspired directly out of the clone wars comic.
The Imperial Officer= backgroud is a screenshot from ROTJ, slightly retouched/rearranged; the officer is a photo of a cosplayer which I also retouched, for example adding blue backlight, intensify the eyes, light reflections and so on, just like the graphic guys pimp up the cover girls ;D
then melting everything together my way ... thats all.
And there are others out there with much more talent ;)
-
Well, there may be others with more talent, but that does not detract from the fact that your work is very creative and so beautifully done.
-
First off, I don't see anything out if proportion, so either I'm blinder than I thought, or you are too hard on yourself. I'm betting it's the latter.
So, my next question to you is, are you up for a challenge/project? I have a character I'd like to see recreated in your stylings in a few different poses. Let me know if you're game, and I'll get with you via PM.

thanks man! ;)
well, I am always open to join projects, doing poster artworks, cards ... and if the character, ships etc. already exist, its okay with me for I can not invent things out of the blue, my imagination is limited to play around with things I can see, altering them and so one, thats all. And I am no graphic designer, doing fonts, borders and things like that...
sounds like a big thing, more than one image... but sure, drop me some lines, I am curious now ;)

I posted this somewhere else here in the boards within an reply message, but Hangarbay mentioned it earlier on in this thread so I thought I should show it here, too. Its a digital composite of a cosplayer in his movie accurate imperial uniform and second, another heavy photo manipulation showing a cosplayer acting as a Sith Lord.
Have Fun :)

BTW this is the original photo of our Sith here: http://www.swfn.de/images/makingof/artwork/1.jpg (http://www.swfn.de/images/makingof/artwork/1.jpg)
Both composites I did as commisssions for the guys and their fan club Star Wars Fans Nuremberg (Germany).

Oh man! These are so good! Everyone click that link to the original picture so you can grasp what he is doing here. This is just awesome!
-
Art, that is so freaking sweet! I love both of those!
-
Wow, these are stunning, the detail and the style is wonderful. You have a great eye.
-
hey guys, thank you so much for your uplifting remarks, you really keep me going !!

really nice work man!

really nice work man!
thanks a lot, Captain!!

besides Sandroopers, ARCs+RepCommando Troopers I absolutly LOVE the Snowtrooper Outfit. As Volker, the cosplayer here, asked if I could do a artwork for him I immediatelly agreed :D
someone asked how long it takes to do such a composite/painting... well, it depends on the amount of elments/figures and the size of the image, approx. from 6 up to 20 hours.

Wow Stefan! I haven´t seen the Snowtrooper compostite before! That really rocks!!!!
-
Wow Stefan! I haven´t seen the Snowtrooper compostite before! That really rocks!!!!
thanks a lot, Hackcore ;)
yeah, I am really busy doing stuff for some cosplayers, actually members of the Star Wars Fans Nuremberg. This is the newest addition. I am not posting them on phoxim for they are not relying on model kits or figures... You may check my photos on Facebook to see the other composites I've made for Eisi and his crew.
-
Though I am currently working on two images containing some customs figures out of the yards - don't ask bbfet , I will keep them top secret till finished - I took the opportunity to play with a really nice thing: Darth Leia!
Phatty introduced me to her and his stunning fan fiction story...wow, what an adventure, extremly exciting (though I don't like the Chewbacca part...) It was a great push, together with his custom he had made and the overall idea of an sexy and dark Leia... he asked me if I could do some pictures of her... and hey, though I love Troopers and Bounty Hunters I could not resist ;D
So this is the first quick study I made, using a free usable stock footage of a model. I did not grab every detail out of the description of Leia for I only wanted to play with the pose and see how everythings works... but it does not. It is simply not right, not the Leia I would like to se on a poster or something and I will do a second study as soon as possible, featuring a more action pose and maybe adding some "sexy armor" details.
But for now here comes my first attempt I would like to share with you anyway.

Art, I never tire of looking at this one. Though I have to ask, did you change this one from the last one I saw? The face looks different, and a lot better! I'm loving these my friend, and I can't thank you enough for taking on my prize creation like this!
-
looks really well!

Hi Phatty, thank you for your kind words, my friend :)
to answer your question: yes, I did change he a little bit. I reworked her face, arm and belly, adding more volume and working out the details a bit more. I also turned down the light areas around her and added some "mystic" colors instead.
Glad you like her.
looks really well!
thanks a lot, Captain!!
-
That is definitely better, in my opinion. I can't wait to see your other incarnations of this one!
-
Wow, she sure doesn't hurt my eyes! Great work.
-
WOW! That is awesome! Love everything about it!
-
thank you guys!!
So I now know that you all are addicted to hight heels, black leather and latex ;D ;D

HeHe ;D

This is Mrs Hangarbay...
I have just sent Mr. Hangarbay to his room after finding him ogling over the image at the top of the page. You boys should be ashamed of yourselves, especially you Mr DeWill! call yourself an artist..it's guys like you that give us Star Wars wives such a hard time. I've still got the scars from wearing that ridiculous Princess Lea Slave Girl outfit on our honeymoon...I'm now 10 years older and have had 2 kids...if Mr Hangarbay expects me to get into that latex gear you're showing he's got another thing coming....
Shame on you Mr DeWill...
P.S..Any images of Lord Vader in a Latex G'String????

thanks a lot, Clonehead!!
a good chance to return your compliment, for I am in awe about your customs! Man, you are doing great in camos and I just love your desert OPS, the elite corps clone and the transitional pilot figure... just to name a few!
they sure would make exciting action posters ;)

today I have a special update for you:
Let me introduce Norris Tretch, bounty hunter!
Yes, you are right, its the fabulous custom created by Luke Sprywalker. He asked me if I could do some artwork with Tretch and man, the build and the cool pose immediatelly hit me... and of course I agreed... but no more words needed, I will let the image speak for itself - remember: i am a painter, not a writer ;)
hope you enjoy as much as I had doing this commission.

Art, that is absolutely superb, you are putting me to shame! the setting is perfect and the whole thing is a beautiful work of art...
WOW! I really cannot get over how wonderful your works of art are! Luke Sprywalker will freak when he sees it! the attention to detail...AWESOME!!!! it looks like a painting!
Now post it on Luke's Custom figure thread and see what happens!!!! ;)
PS, This has had to go on the Front Page.....
-
@Hangarbay:
thank you so much, my dear friend, coming from such a talented artist like you your compliment really means a lot to me!
and don't talk silly, no one puts you to shame.
thanks for the hint, too, I'll repost this in Luke's thread and see what happens ;)
-
Art, that is absolutely spectacular! The colors, the realism, are unparalleled! L.E. is going to LOVE this!
-
THIS IMAGE IS A JAW DROPPER! As Jules had said the landscape is perfect. I love the minor changes you made that will most likely get added to the actual custom. The Wookie fur blaster holster is so pimp! Then we get down to the actual rendering...it is so good I do not know words worth of describing it. You have made my day! Thanks so much.
-
Art, I see from your post that you are worried about showing the image on two forums, don't worry, you should post the image in the customisers thread and your own. This thread is your showcase, you should post your images in both places so that everyone can see them.
Superb creative work like yours needs to be seen and it is a breath of fresh air to these forums...
-
Daggone, I loved L.E's custom and man this custom graphic is just spectacular. I hope you made this big so he can make himself a poster version of this. It really is quite nice and looks so daggone real! Wow.
-
Thanks a lot, guys, you really made my day! :)
and of course you keep me going, you and your fantastic customs are fresh air coming into my work. You are my inspiration and I am looking forward to do some more collaborative works.
Thank you all.
-
Stefan truly excepetional work mate and what a great way to show the guys customs that they do, I was having a look at Spry's custom and your art work and it's amazing how much detail you get it your art. As I mentioned to you before some of your work actually does look like real dios.
Ron
-
@hemble:
thank you very much, Ron!
its an honor that you and other customers allow me to use their already exciting builds, saying "hey, do what you think of and make a artwork out of it your way"... its like a conductor interpreting sheet music.
-
wow, LOVE that image of LS's mando and speeder bike. I loved that custom back when he first showed it and this art-work definately showcases it superbly. I love the composition, the background, and the general effects your work pulls off. The speeder truly looks real, as though it were hovering there generating that dusty haze!
I can't WAIT to see what else you come up with!
and like I told you on deviant-art... feel FREE to use ANY of my customs for inspiration! I would love to go back and digitally enhance LOADS of my images, cutting out stands, backgrounds and doing stuff like this. Especially for my speeder bike customs! heck just cutting out the stands and making them look like they are hovering for real would blow me away!
again, superb work. I honestly don't know how you guys can do stuff like this in these programs... I don't have the patience (or time) for it!
-
Hi spudafett,
thanks a lot, my friend, you already know that I am amazed by a lot of your customs, including your desert mando, fem Viper, black widow, galactic marine, TFU Shaak Ti and your speeder - looking at one of the photos I already saw him racing through an autumnal forrest... ;)
I am really really pushed and only limited by rare spare time, damn, currently working on 4 other projects. Its great fun but for I don't want to have too many loose ends I will first finish at least two ot them and while working on the other ones start with new artworks. Sometimes I'll get stuck and so its good to have other irons in the fire to switch to. Doing so I'll keep my work fresh. You guys may have experienced similar feelings while working on your customs.
Anyway, you can always drop me a note if you need some help in digital stuff, I would be glad to be of service.
If you shoot your figures in front of a appropriate backdrop (e.g. a landscape calendar sheet) and throwing in some foreground stuff it is relativly easy to retouch the whole thing so it looks more natural. then adding some painterly look and your personal logo you are able to showcase your work just like a collectors card...
-
I think we all get to a point where we are swamped with ideas but not enough time to finish them. Idk how many unfinished projects I have sitting around. I get stuck on one, set it aside and start another... hoping I'll eventually get back to it. sometimes I never do! sometimes it may be months before I finish a project...
we all know that these projects are hobbies and thus take up our free time, what little free time we normally have in this hectic modern lifestyle.... so I hope you don't feel rushed, or the need to finish these in any time-frame. It's your time, use it as you wish!
-
thank you very much for this thoughtful reply, your words are true ones.
And no worries, my friend, I don't feel rushed.
I am just so pushed by all your outstanding works... :D
-
so here she comes: Dark Leia (2nd version)!
at first I just wanted to do another quick study, but while working on it I liked it even more and more, than got the idea of that lightsabre swing and decided to finally flesh it all out.
Again she does not exactly look like originally described in Phattys story, but I hope you guys - and especially Phatty - like her anyway.
-
Oh, Art, she is incredible! I think I'll need to find some armor pieces to make another version of her to match your art! Se looks so stunning, and the background, reflections, and likeness are so great! I'm going to have to have this printed out on canvas or something and frame her!
-
What I want to know is how the hell you managed to get such a great likeness of my wife!!!!
-
you wish! lol
-
Oh my... she is...HOT! I love your additions to her and the lighting is just awesome! Well done!
-
woow woow woow, she looks amazing!!!
-
Thank you, fellas, your comments put a big smile on my face!
And a special thanks to Phatty, I am really glad you like her and talking about adapting my ideas to your custom is such a big compliment which means a lot to me.
-
I just can say she´s a "Seile Gau" ;D

-
thanks a lot, Christoph :D
ja, die Haltung macht viel aus. Als ich das Originalfoto - welches ich dann als Referenz benutzte - sah wusste ich sofort, dass würde zu diesem Leia-Bild passen.
-
now ! come on im telling !! someone ban this man hes to good for are small colony of geeks !1 ;D ;D
joke
-
Hi beige-4, thank you very much! Now that is what I call a very special compliment :)
-
I love the Dark Leia image, Art. That would make a great poster.
-
thanks a lot, Clonehead, really appreciate your poster idea :)
but, could you ever do something else inside the room with this poster on the wall than gazing at her ;D ;D
-
again a cosplayer commissioned me to to a painting of him in his Royal Guard Outfit. I immediatelly loved the pose but tilted the image... therefore I had to enhance the figure, also I simplified the background/throne room a little bit to keep the image clear. Great workload but a lot of fun to do.
hope you guys like it ;)

HOLY CRAP !!! THIS IS SOMETHING !
-
Man, your renderings are awesome!
-
That looks stupendous mate !
-
Absolutely beautiful, Art!
-
Wow. Just catching up on my threads and saw this dark leia. I don't know what to say.
You are back on the front page.
-
thanks a lot, my friends, I bow my head and really appreciate all your wonderful remarks!
and thanks for the FP feature - its like getting standing ovations ;)
so stay tuned... coming up next is the already fantastic Pre-Sandtrooper by hemble productions *tease*
-
another AdW masterpiece
the quality of your images is just unbeatable
can't wait to see the Pre-Sandtrooper
-
thanks, pal!!
but you are too kind, I am just a smart photo manipulator ;)
cool, I like that "AdW" abbreviation :)
-
When I first saw Ron's creations it was a mind-blowing experience and instantly a bunch of ideas flooded my brain... He then was kind enough to give me permission for using his figures in my artworks. It was no easy task to choose from my long list of want-to-does but I finally went for his Pre-Sandtrooper.
Again, a big THX to you, Ron. I hope you and all the yarders like this little scene.

Damn Art I'm totally :o Gobbed Smacked :o mate this is bloody amazing, I'm honoured that you liked the figure that much to make it into this exceptional piece of art.
Ron
-
WOW! jumping gehosafat! AYE CARUMBA!!! BLOOMIN NORA!!! CRIKEY!!
hmmmm....not bad ;D
-
Art, that is absolutely stunning! What a great tribute to one of Ron's awesome pieces!
-
Holy crap that is FANTASTIC! My photo receptors are on overload...my circuits are blown!
-
..... you know i want your skills ;)
-
Jesus, hey guys, such overwhelming remarks... thank you very much! you are really filling up my battery :)
and beige-4, this is more about clever photomanipulation than art skills.
its like re-painting an existing form or figure and adding some background stuff ;)
-
hats off AdW
another stunning masterpiece
-
Hi Fiala, thank you my friend for this lovely reply!!
yeah, the background was kind of a struggle, I tried a lot and first overcrowded it. But as I focused on just a few elements it turned out right.
so stay tuned, Christoph... YES, your Mountain Infatry is coming up next :D
and its going to be a huge project... two figures and a lot of snow and mountains... I already extended my digital canvas to 2270 px. A lot of sweat, a lot of fun...
-
yeah right ! ;D ;D
-
Art, you have equalled Hembles's skill and created an absolute peach of a composite. What a fantastic gift, Hemble will freak when he sees it.
Your work is very distictive, I absolutely love yoyur style.
-
Wow, looks awesome. I think this looks even better as if that were possible.
-
thank you, my dear friends, you all put a big smile on my face and I am glad you enjoy my little artwork :)
but no time to rest on this laurels, there are images to be done ;D
-
Finally had time to get this on the fp where it belongs.
-
Finally had time to get this on the fp where it belongs.
wow, thank you very much, Tamer!! Again this is a great honor :)
-
i really wanna see that
-
Simply AMAZING!
-
really nice job. :)
-
AdW... your work seriously blows me away. Not much more I can say. It's stunning.
-
thank you so much, I greatly appreciate your feedback - its amazing and very encouraging.
And today very helpfull indeed for I detected a silly error in my current work which I now have to fix... grrr
-
weekend is almost over - its already 10:30 PM here in Germany - but before I close for today I want to share my little concept idea with you, which I have done in various versions over the last few days.
This is the final concept and this time its not about trooper or even Star Wars... but still boys in the toys ;)
Entry: Helga, the Viking by Triad Toys
I did this composite scetch having in mind to work it out in my loose and abstract traditional ways - you all know my heart beats for this technique - but I am still unsure weather to really translate it into this sort of painting or flesh it out as a composite... if ever ... for there a piles of ideas and concepts which never made it to a final work.
Anyway this one was fun to do, thats why I post it for you guys to have some fun, too.
-
cool. :)
-
Simply amazing as always mate and always love the backgrounds you give them.
Ron
-
This is amazing, great job man!
-
thank you!
but its only a quick composite study done to be used as reference for the oil painting - or to be reworked as detailed composite... I have still made no decission ;)
-
Art, if I ever sell a book and get to pick my own cover artist, you WILL be getting a call!
-
Art, if I ever sell a book and get to pick my own cover artist, you WILL be getting a call!
thank you very much for this very special compliment.
Sure you can call me, anytime and purpose, mate :D
-
I found this one on my harddrive and noticed, that it is still an unpublished work. I origianlly wanted to send it to the Official German Star Wars Fan club as offer for their magazine, but because they still have a lot of unpublished stuff I decided to keep it - and forgot about it...
Yeah, too many other ideas and projects going on ;)
but now its time to drag this piece out of darkness.
BTW the basic idea for this scenery came from my son (12), he also posed the figures. Oh yeah, I am proud daddy :)
Hope this one touches you.

Wow, Art, that is definitely a moving image. Another great piece of work for sure.

That is... That would make an excellent poster that I would LOVE to hang on my wall. Very evocative. I'll say it is probably my current favorite of your works that I have seen - and I think it will be very difficult to displace.
My only nitpick is a personal preference issue - I'd love to see the downed trooper in an AOTC "finhead" helmet or a BARC/Saleucami/Neyo helmet instead of a ROTS Phase II helmet. ;D Bu that's just me.
I... wow.
-
sweet. :)
-
wow
as always, a masterpiece
-
Thank you all, my friends!
seems that painting was like the one ring and wanted to be found to be showcased to you ;D
@Doc: I am glad this one gets such a high rating on your personal chart though it does not reach all preferences.
-
superb piece really brings a humanity to the clone wars

superb piece really brings a humanity to the clone wars
thank you!!
yes, thats exactly what I had in mind: to bring humanity to the wars and to the clones.
-
wooow man its an awesome image indeed, awesome!
-
Art, this last offering is just stunning....stunning!!!
You have captured a moment so well! there is a tremendous amount of feeling on the shot, it really is an exceptional piece of digital artwork.
-
thank you so much, everyone!
I am really glad the message I wanted to transport with this image shows up so well - though the image itself has a lot of weak points.
-
Art, you are a true perfectionist! I can't fault your work at all.
-
Art, you are a true perfectionist! I can't fault your work at all.
thanks, Jules, your are too kind :D
-
No doubt this image envokes a tremendous amount of emotion. It would be the perfect Memorial Day image for the front page or a poster as Doc said. Art you are a true perfectionist and it shows in every piece you give us. You have a style all your own and I love it. Other images have created a mood within the environment but this one really brings on a centimental moment. Well done, art thru images is a beautiful thing.
-
Luke, thank you very much for this wonderful compliment and I am feeling honored that you vote for a Memorial Day image. I really like this idea, it would be in my intention.
If you like you may download a medium sized poster here (http://db.tt/g3dUQ77)

Had to take a break from Star Wars and all the digital stuff I've done over the past few months and decided to switch to another favorite movie and back to my beloved traditional ways. Oh I should do much more or these...
So this is NOT about Star Wars and digital composites, but I would like to share it with you guys anyway ;)
For I had recently watched Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" together with my kids it was easy to be inspired by the fantastic landscapes seen in the movie and so I took some screenshots and photos of mountainscapes for reference and re-invented this scene, showing the fellowship on their fateful journey.
Acylics and Oil pastels on linen paper, 40x50 cm, done alla prima in about 3.5 hours at Holde Woessners art class on the 13th November.

Art, I love it. Like you, i feel passion for the scenery shown in those movies and having read the books, appreciate the translation that Mr. Jackson gave us. I never appreciated the changes to the storyline but the spectacular imagery and attention to detail makes up for it.
I love the soft tones of the stroke on this piece coupled with the harsh lines and shapes of the rocky landscape and the ruins.
Makes me want to paint.
-
great work art
-
Brilliant Art! I also love the landscapes and the moods they evoke in this film. Very well done and the style translates the harshness of the environment. I love it!
-
Art, you really are bringing us some culture, your landscape has an ebstract feel to it, making it look very contemporary. It's a style I really appreciate.
Thanks so much for sharing such beautiful work.
-
@all:
thank you so much, my friends, for all your wonderful comments... they really mean a lot to me and put a smile on my face :)
I can tell you that this painting style is coming right from my artists soul, really IS me and means more to me than the digital stuff. Don't get me wrong, its great fun to do this composites and stuff, but my love goes for the traditional and more abstract ways, being more an interpretation of reality than a copy ...
and I really want to focus more on this in the future.
-
It's another brilliant piece, Art. You are a master of all the mediums you use, and I just love to see more of your work!
-
That is amazing man!
-
again thank you so much for your kind words!
but being a master... I dont think so ;) still a long way to go.

george has a big mind

well it don't have to be star wars but you can " however " change it in the expanding galaxy i.e alderaan Wink
hey, you know what? you are absolutly right.... just thought about what landscapes out of Star Wars could serve as inspiration for similar paintings... so this is of course idea #1. Thanks for mentioning it!!!
Any further suggestions?

Art, you have a wonderful passion, and your love of abstract art really adds a different perspective to your work in general. As an artist you have to pursue your heart and although I would love to see you continue to WOW us with your Star Wars stuff, I'd also love to see you make it as an original artist in your own right.

Jules, my dear friend, I greatly appreciatd your wonderful wonderful words and your support and understanding really means the world to me, especially coming from you as a like-minded soul.
I sure will walk in both worlds digital and traditional abstract art, but because I have so many ideas and feel to focus on real brushes I may leave the digital realms up to commissioned artwork... who knows, maybe there is someone who even wants to see his costume or customs done abstract ways... on the other hand the composites are done much faster which means I can deal with more ideas and put them into images... well, I don't want to put my words in stone and leave everthing up to decisions which simply feel right in that particular moment, if you know what I mean.
BTW I now have some traditional artworks on my deviantArt account for those who are interested.
Stefan
-
to finalize all my thoughts about art, ambitions and digital vs. traditional I must say that there is no right or wrong and even sometimes it has to be both worlds like in this painting which I did a while ago. Actually acrylic colors on stretched canvas I later reworked it digitally for I wanted to achive a new and maybe more exciting look.
BTW here is a link (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=31040958&id=1507911332) to the trad. oil painting (sorry for the bad photograph).
so thats it for now, no more thinking but focusing on creative power in general, coming up next *tease* are some lonely snowy mountain troopers ;)
-
sweeettttsss !!!! ;D

nice sandcrawler

UTINNII!!!!!

Stefan, I look forward to whatever the 'Yards artists choose to share, because I know it is coming from the heart and talent.
-
Stefan, this is awesome! Between you, Jules and Screaming Samurai Studios my mind has officialy been blown since coming back from the Thanksgiving Holiday. Everything you do belongs on the Front Page!
-
Ohhh man! Art that last image is wonderful. You are so talented, and have a great sense of colour. These paintings are stunning!

Amazing image man!

when I first saw Fialas Mountain Infantry Trooper, I knew I simply had to use them in one of my images. They are just gorgeous. Fiala was kind enough to give me a GO and so here they are.
It was a major project, two figurs, all the mountain details, everthing blending together... in high resolution... but I think the result was worth all efforts. hoep you guys - and of course especially Fiala - like it.
So I am a little bit faster than Santa Claus ;)

PPPPHHHHHHHH!!!!! coffee splutters all over computer screen as the hangarbay chokes on seeing Art's latest images....
Man, you are severely dangerous, you need to give a warning prior to posting new images....Sheesh!
Love, love, love, love the latest images...Fiala will be over the moon when he sees them!
You are Awesome!

sorry but my English is not enough for a proper thank you
Thanks a million Stefan
This is the best Christmas present ever

thanks a lot, guys!! I am glad you do enjoy those images as much as I have while working on them - though I have to admit that they also caused some pain (but no one said doing art is easy...) ;)
No, I really had a lot of fun and I am very thankfull that Fiala let me put my hands on his stunning creations.
Christoph, you are most welcome, my friend, its a great relief to hear that you like my work so much and I see you really like it for you use it as background image on your youtube page, thank you very much.
And you featured the image in a video? wow, cool - unfortunatelly I can not view your content due to copyright restrictions in germany... :(
But anyway thank you so much for honoring my work.
BTW: he poster image files can be printed on approx. 60x80 cm if you ever like it BIG :)
Now I am looking forward to your commission regarding your fantastic flamethrower Clone... I am working on the background and all over look already (very WW2 like and grim) but it will again take its time.

Oh my, Art, That is a sharp piece of work and a great tribute to Fiala's stunning customs.
-
Wow. That's fantastic. Dunno how I missed Fiala's customs - wait, yes I do, it was that bloody novel! Ok, I'm off to see the customs that so inspired you to turn out another beautiful piece of art!
-
Hi Doc and Clonehead, thanks a lot for your kind comments :)
yeah, there is a lot of inspiration here at the Yards ;)
-
sweet gongas !! that is nice !!
-
Wooow great images!!!!

thanks a lot, beige-4 and CaptainLux!! glad you enjoyed them :D

Art been away for a little while and coming back to see all these amazing pieces is awesome, there's not one that isn't spectacular. I would love to see you tackle some Indiana Jones ones I know aguy that has heaps of dio's and figures that would be great for your art work ;) ;) ;D
But seriously thou mate keep up the amazing work and can't wait to see what you do next.
Ron
-
Hey, I have to second what Ron has said. It would be awesome to see your touch put to any of Ron's fabulous Indy customs. nudge, nudge...
-
Hi Ron, thank you so much for your kind words. It means a lot to hear that there is an audience out there who likes to see more of the little renderings I do.
Personally I am focusing on my traditional works, doing more expressionism-like Star Wars stuff and of course there is a pile of requests for digital composites I am working on one after another. Very exciting stuff BTW, an Ysanne Isard, Starkiller facing a jungle Rancor and some Legacy stuff, FialaFernbrugg's Firestorm Clone ...
Well, I think I know that guy you are talking about, too :D - he has a lot of awesome works and if I had to make a choice which one to use in a rendering it would be to do. So its great to get that hint on Indy ;)
Seems I have to check your site again... and BTW Raiders is my top favorite movie of all time, so doing and Indy-rendering sure will be a lot of fun to do ;) Thanks for requesting!
Cheers, Stefan
-
finished another commission: Ysanne Isard
A member of the German "phoxim" scifi modeling forum, who is currently building Ysanne's SuperStarDestroyer, asked for a rendering of Ysanne to showcase it together with his model kit at scifi/modeler exhibitions.
Painted in Photoshop using screenshots, a Hasbro toy figure and a comic book drawing of her face for reference.
Enjoy!

Sweet. Wow, I can see this on the fp sometime this week. Great work Art.
-
Amazing artwork man!
-
Dude, I really love the way you combine all of the elements so seamlessly, and with such superb style! This is another remarkable image. Man, you really have taken things a huge leap further.
-
thanks a lot, guys!!
really appreciate your support and of course your inspiration!
-
Art, how do you keep cranking these awesome images out? Man, she's a beauty! Very well done, I love it!
-
a big THX to you, Luke, its great that you like her :) well, bro, I just love doing female characters, if such a request comes in I just have to go for it ;D its like fresh air ;D
but I think this is pretty straight forward, just a standard pose, the bridge of her SSD (cause a modeller building her ship asked for the rendering) and the blood refering to her cruelty... and a chance to do this kinda cover style. thats all.
-
Where's a "thumbs-up" icon when you need one??? Another great piece of art from you! :o
-
thanks a lot, Doc, glad you like her :)
-
Hope you guys had a great Christmas :)
Well, though I am not that much into X-Mas and New Years stuff, this time of year tends to bring some thinking about someones past and future, some focusing... this said I would like to share this rendering with you, the last for this year, which also may be some kind of preview of how my art will develop in future times... getting more and more painterly, introducing loose brush work, line work, definitelly being more drawing/painting than photo...
but enough prophecy ;) Just enjoy my Stardestroyers - at least I hope you do. Its a real mixed media work for I used acrylic colors, oils, oil pastels and reworked the whole thing digitally for some light and out-of focus fx (and correcting some minor errors)

I am likng the more "painterly" look, art.

-
i am really liking this art !
-
thank you so much, guys!! its great, that you like this particular style...
so we will see how things are going in 2011 :D
-
Absoutely fantastic! Van Gogh meets Styar Wars! I'd love to see that in the Louvre....
-
thanks a lot, Jules !!
Louvre, eh, it may show up there... but only if I am smuggling it right into the exhibitons ;D
-
Bravo! I too love seeing your work that looks more like a painting than a picture. But hey I love seeing anything that you have put your touch on. Very nice and thanks for sharing!

Well, if this is a wish then stay tuned, for I have a lot of ideas to be hopefully realized in 2011 :D

Herzlichen Dank, Christoph!!
ich gebe mein Bestes :D

Hi guys, I hope you all had a good start into 2011 so far! And if not - I got some annoying news, too - hey, things can only get better. Besides this annoying stuff I mentioned I also got fabulous good news, for both Jedinews and Teekay-421 asked me, if I where available for commissions this year!! WOW, I can tell you my heart beat doubled and I agreed at once... though I do not exactly know what this is all going to be - if ever - but it sure sounds exciting and worth a try.
Besides that I am working hard on a pile of commissions. Amongst them are some of your awesome customs and before I close today I thought why not showing you a little teaser ;) I think its my biggest projekt so far, containing three figures, tons of details and lots of hand painted stuff.
So I hope you all stay tuned , SHE is coming up next.

Hi all,
the wait for Fiala is over :) last details are added and its time to showcase my little artwork featuring his outstanding custom firestorm trooper! I very much hope that you like the scenery I have build up around him and its not too much WW2 feeling - for this is what I had in mind while working on it. My personal highlight here is the fire, which is complete hand drawn.

-
Excellent work.
-
He's excellent, AdW, and I'm sure Fiala is honored as well. I think the use of color really sets the tone in this one.

Very nice work, Art! Man, that fire turned out incredibly.

Good job Stefan! Can't wait to see my mando.

Art that is FANTASTIC! Very nice use of color and great job on the fire! The total devastation behind him is just perfect.
-
THANKS A LOT, GUYS, you really gave me a fantastic start into my day :) its always amazing for me to see other people react so positive to my humble works, gives me chills and I am so glad you lilke this one :) Thanks you all for your thoughtfull comments.
and THX tamer for the frontpage, this is always a great honor and means a lot to me. Its like being on a cover of a magazine - WOW.
Hi CloneSniper, stay tuned, your gorgeous Mando is coming up next! Just hold on a little longer, please ;)
I rejected my first idea of doing a poster thing, somekind of collage, and I am now showing him inside the Kashyyyk forest, lots of plants, some fog, and I will put a lot of detailed texture onto his armor. Another mega project, allthough only one figure the amount of details scales this baby up, but its so cool and fun working on it.
Cheers, Art

Art, another superb piece of work, I love the burning background, it's like the trooper has destroyed everything around him and is now feeling lucky to be alive.
That's the great thing about your images, they all have a story to tell.

Stefan, I am completely speechless :-X
I guess it's time for a new picture frame and I must find a special place in my room for this beauty.
The picture is very well done, especially the weathered armor and the backround are phenomenal.
I can't thank you enough my friend.

Hey Guys,
cause I am so excited about my current projects I just had to make some little teasers and share them with you and also to report to those of you who have requested an artwork whats going on :)
You already know that I prefer tworking on at least two projects at a time so I can switch between them if I got to a dead end. So while CloneSniper's Mando is coming to an end I am also working on Ron's Indiana Jones! Its been a while since Ron suggested an artwork of one of his 12'' customs, but hey, Raiders is my all time favorite movie so how could I resist ;) And NO, he will NOT look like Harrison Ford, I am not focusing on the actor but on the iconic outfit.
In addition to that I started pre-production on Darknsour's idea about 2 Clones and their Jedi General facing an enemy army after order 66 took place. Though my image will not tell the full story - for we will not see whom they are fighting and therefore leave it up to the viewers to imagine their own story - its a huge project featuring three detailed figures, a bunker entrance and a lot of rocks.
After that I will start on Rusty's stunning Toorn Vos...
It all will took awhile to finish, but you now know whats in the pipeline...

Art, those look incredible. Man, I do love your style of artwork! That indy image is just thrilling. Looks like an old style movie poster.
-
Thank you so much, Clonehead, I greatly appreciate your support. But all my inspirations comes from the creatice atmosphere here at the yards and such works of wonder like you do.
I've heard it before that my style reminds people of old poster stuff or movie post cards and I really like that thoughts :)
thanks.

Hey Stefan,
I don't know how to put to words what your art work does to me!!
It has a look all it's own!!
I can't wait th see the finnished product !!

Just brilliant. On the front page.

Beautiful work, Art! The background and surroundings just suit that figure and draw your eye in.
Fantastic!
-
thanks a lot, guys, you really keep me going :) I can not mention it enough that you and the Yards are an constant well of inspiration.
All my effords are heading into one direction: to support your fantastic customs.
Thank you, Tamer, for again honoring me and Clonesniper with a fp feature :)
-
Thanks Stefan!!! I just put him up as my wallpaper for my computer. I wish there was a whole comic book about this Mando. I just keep staring and staring at him forever. Words cannot describe how happy your artwork has made me. Thank you so much. And I also want to thank Spry for passing his competition prize to me. If he didn't do that I wouldn't be enjoying this beautiful artwork. Thanks guys, you really made my year already!
-
Those re awesome images man!
-
WOW! How can I put into words how brilliant this is? Artistic genius, masterpiece and epic are the first words that come to mind. Simply inspiring work. Your landscapes with just one figure are able to translate a story or make you think. It makes me dream about what is going on in the scene, I think he is hunting Wookies. Maybee just one Wookie Jedi, it can be whatever each person viewing the work wants. The light coming thru the trees is just awesome. As with every piece your use of color really make this one a mind blower.
Tom, I am glad to have transferred this honor to you. I now get to enjoy the fruits of both you guys labor so everyone wins!

Mate really looking forward to seeing how Indy turns out and hey as you said it's the Iconic look that I love about him as well.
Your latest works are purely sensational, the detail you add is amazing to say the least and as I've said before the backgrounds you give each one is brillant and really adds to the design.

i cannot thank you all enough for all your wonderful words about my artwork, all your detailed insights... I greatly appreciate your time you spend on watching and writing. Thank you thank you!!
yeah, those light FX to create mood... seems to be somekind of typical attribute :D I just love to do it. Indeed my images are just a starting point for the viewers imagination, his own story, everyone can interact with the image his own way, enjoy it his own way, spin off his own ideas.
And of course all my intention is to support your customs, they are the stars, and as you may have noticed though bringing in somekind of "real" looking surroundings and reworking the figures I always leave some hints on the toy character. This is what gives a wanted somehow artifical look, which brings excitement speaking of composition and attraction. Thats my style.
Tom, its so great to hear how you enjoy my translation of your wonderful figure and I am glad I could be of service to bring this Mando even more to life.
Yes, a true WIN WIN situation, always an intention of mine.

I don't know if its better than the former ones, i put all my talent and efford, blood and tears into each piece, but every rendering pulls another string on our soul so we like one more than another... because of the figure, the colors, the scene...
anyway, its cool to hear that maybe I am really improving, so lets see where this path leads to :)

you know that besides the digital realms I am a true and loving oil painter and again I find action figures very useful as models :) one of my personal long term projects is a series of trooper oil paintings, done in my favorite loose style. I finished this one a few months ago and right now I can only show you a detail of the painting for the German Star Wars fan club has the exclusive rights on it and though I should not publish anything at all I believe showing only a detail at a specialized forum like this one is not a harming to the agreement - and its the only way to discuss my ideas using this medium and maybe get some pushes to carry on. the painting measures 60 x 80 cm (23.6 x 31.5 '') Hope you enjoy :)
sidekick story: though this is still my first oil painting out of the series and I own some good troopers I already ordered some new ones for 100 bucks or so at my favorite online store to expand my collection of patient models ;) just couldnt resist... for originally I only wanted to buy the new TCW Shaak Ti and a Shock Trooper for my son...

Wow Stefan that is awesome. I would love to put that on the front page, but don't want to get you in any trouble!

I do love your loose style to painting, Art. It's all about the brush stroke.

hey guys, wow, thank you so much for all your wonderful comments!! again you made my heart smile and its so great to see that you do enjoy this painting style of mine. gives me the bravery to carry on with it.
Clonehead, you found wonderful words by saying "its all about brush strokes!, definitelly it is :)
Thanks, Tamer, for your understanding, its a very uplifting compliment to value it worth a fp feature, but that would be indeed to promintent.

VA, thank you so much for your special compliment, I am feeling honored!!
well, there is no print available in its original size, but I can offer a printable PNG file wich will result in a printout measuring approx. 23 x 17 inches @ 150 DPI, wich is quite fair, better would be a print @ 300 DPI in half the size. you are familiar with all the technical printing stuff, I guess ;)
-
I would love to have one of that Walker one you did!

Wieder ein atemberaubendes Kunsterwerk Stefan. Die Kashyyyk trooper sind phänomenal geworden.
Ich denke George Lucas wäre stolz es in seinem Wohnzimmer hängen zu haben.
Hut ab mein Freund.

this is my fav out of all of them
-
Art, your trooper image is so unusual, I find myself comparing it to early abstract paintings of flowers or Tuscan Landscapes. The crossover style is totally unique and I absolutely love your work. Please don't just show us your Star Wars art, I'd love to see your other works as I'm a huge fan of abstract art, however I rarely see it done well. You have a wonderful talent.
Just a few short words does your images no justice at all, they are in a class all their own. Once again I am so thankful you are with us, you bring a touch of grandeur to our proceedings.
-
again you guys see me speechless and overwhelmed by your uplifting comments and requests! I can't thank you enough for your appreciation of my work. I am deeply touched.
Jules, thank you so much for your wonderful warming words and insights, for valuing my crossover style so highly... its a great push and enourages me to really and boldly follow my ideas.
Hi Spooky, thanks, glad you like it! its a heavily reworked photo of a cosplayer wearing this Guarding outfit, I tilted it, painted the background and 1/3 of the figure.
Herzlichen Dank, Christoph! Tja, vielleicht habe ich mal Glück und GL sieht eines meiner Bilder :D
VA & Tamer, I will PM you a hyperlink to the printable files, but for I am new to Windows Live I am not sure if I did set up everything right... I am not a big Microsoft fan, but 25 GB free space attracted me to sign in...
VA, I discoverd that the file of the Kashyyk troopers is a JPG, not an PNG, you may have to do a smaller test printout first (?)
Tamer, I am excited about the fact that you asked for a print of my unleashed Walkers. But I can only provide you a version without the white frame and lettering, for I added this stuff to the web version only. Hope thats not a problem.
-
well, time for an update ;)
its been a while since Ron asked if I could put create an artwork using one of his Indy figures. I was really delighted, for Raiders is still my all time favorite movie and I own ansd sometimes wear a Indy Fedora and of course I very much like Ron's fantastic creations.
So I looked for a suitable image on his website and went for a typical jungle scenery. I didn't want to show a Harrison Ford but focused on the iconic outfit instead, so its part Ron's Indy and mine if you will. It was a bit tricky and caused some trouble to keep the balance between some realistic approach and the artifical toy look I always want to peep through my work, but finally here he is, The Man with the Hat:
Poster size image can be downloaded from my dropbox account (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8155677/Free_Prints/Indy_Hemble_Jungle.png).
Thanks for your time and feedback.

WOW! that is absolutely superb, you've caught the essence of the subject perfectly.... I love the way you've outlined the figure giving it an almost comic book flavour.
-
Art, this is just stunning! I am so glad you had chance to give Ron's figure your touch. Just perfect!
-
Art you my friend are one talented person when it comes to this sought of work, I am so honoured that you did this figure it turned out prefectly. And you got the iconic look of Indy down pat, also mate if you ever want to do any other of my figures don't wait for me to ask you just take what picture/s you want and go for it.
Again mate totally amazing work on this.
Ron
-
thanks a lot , guys :)
you are right about the stylized outlines, Jules, its a way to show that we are not talking about a photo or screesnhot or something but about somekind of comic character. on the other hand the image is to "reall" for a comic book page so its some dialogue between those worlds and using a toy figure for this fits perfect to me.
glad you like my version of him, Ron! thank you very much for your generous offer, I am sure I'll go for it :)
-
I love the softened look of this image. Beautiful work, art.

Sweet artwork Stefan. Look for this to show up on our fp sometime soon.

hats off Sir

Can I just say how wonderful I think it is that we have such a wealth of talent here...
Not only do we have some amazing custom figure creators, but we have a mix of superb artists and graphic designers as well. It's great to see members of other forums popping over to this one to take a look at all of the fine work!
thank you everyone....

thank you so vey much for your kind and encouraging words, everybody!!

i am proud to be part of it.

Hey Shawn, thank you so much for the fp honor again!! Its great t see that Ron's work gets this prominent place for his customs deserve it!
Cheers on Hemble's Day!!

I love the use of light in this photo, it captures very well the density of the jungle around Indy! Awesome job, Art.
-

thanks a lot, Phatty!
yeah, first I had no clever clue how to do the composition, just wanted to a jungle scene but didn't know how to set it up. Then I had the idea with the light beams - inspired by a jungle stock photo I found accicently on the internet and some scenes from Raiders - and that was the ignition :)
-
Stefan, you have blown us all away again! I feel like this is a special time to be a member of the Yards. I can just see a few guys sitting around, many years from now, talking about it and saying, " What were the odds that all the best minds were all members of the same website at the same time" .

yeah, I know what you mean, its against all odds ;)
anyway the good ol' days are NOW :)
-
this time I'll show you a personal project, which is a digital rework of my traditional Yoda painting. We all know that a painting is never finished, we simply stop and decide to leave it that way in that special moment and though I very much like how my painting came out, very expressive, simplified, painterly... I now revisited it and reworked it digitally. maybe it will be used for a series of artists cards for a british SW club I am doing artworks for but thats just a idea at the moment.
Enjoy, Art.
-
Woow nice joda man!
-
The original looks brilliant, but the added detail from the digital reworking really makes it all the more beautiful. I particularly like the more detailed robes.
-
Awesome! I love your original painting! The digital rework is great as well, is it just me or did the neck get a bit wide? It may be the black outline as the original is in white. Great work buddy!
-
Incredible as always Art!!!!
-
Very nice. Like the rework too.
-
thanks a lot guys, wow, I am really surprised this time... well you know, the figure doesn't look exactly like Yoda, the palette is a cold one... all done because I want to at the moment I made the particular decision (doing my own interpretations of things), but I thought being not screen accurate and not than warm in its charisma the image would earn more dislikes...
so you really made my day :)
-
How do you do this??? Awesome work.
-
How do you do this??? Awesome work.
thank you, RW!!
hmm, well, I painted it :D left pic is a painting done with acrylics on canvas, right one is the digially reworked version, which means I put a photo of the canvas painting and transfered it into photoshop.
Now I had to do another version, this time a bit more look-alike to the Yoda as we know him and have seen him in Empire, which digi version do you like best?
-
Mate wonderfully excuted as always the painted version has got alot of cold colours that give him a great expression. And the digital really brings out the details in the whole piece excepetional on both pieces mate.
Ron
-
I like em both honestly. :)
-
I like em both too. I guess if I had to pick it would be the one with slightly more hair. On the front page.
-
again, thank you so much, guys, I greatly appreciate your feedback. It helps me so much to reflect my work!!
Ron, its great to hear what you see in both versions and I guess thats how I may continue this type of work: doing my "fine art" stuff in my personal expressive style and revisiting it when I calmed down after the fight in front of the canvas to add the details and more realism... its hard to life in both worlds, one has to many possibilities, always fighting ;)
Tamer, what can I say? thanks again for the fp honor!! you wrote a very nice teaser, yeah, let me know which one you like best.
I guess I'll suggest the more detailed version to the Norwich Club, being only a postcard size in the end it has far more impact.
-
WOW!!
That is the best image of Yoda I have ever seen!!! Great detail!!! You really captured him the way he is suppose to look!!
Great job!! That should be framed and hung on a wall!!!
Keep up the great work!!!
Rich
-
both look cool but would you believe that I prefer the simplicity of the original. The more general shape and stroke as well as color appeals to me.
-
I like the reworked one better. Very cool.
-
Rich, you are too kind, *blush* thanks a lot!!
Clonehead, you found the right word to describe my main goal in traditional art: simplicity. That is the point and I am more than glad that this attracts you!!
but its all a matter of taste and I so I am also happy that I did the second version, its great to hear that you like this one, CloneSniper78!
Thank you ALL for your time and honest feedback, you guys are the best and keep me going!
-
atemberaubend schön Stefan

ganz herzlichen Dank, Christoph!!

again, thank you all, I'll keep you uptodate about this artists card project. Got a request to do 12 collectors cards for the club... OMG I am dying...
-
Hey guys,
finally finished Darknsours request, we had talked about back in February. He came up with the basic idea and provided me some shots of his fabulous customs to fool around with.
Its a somehow darker image, the allover mood, the bunker entrance, muddy path... yeah, I had a lot of fun with it (especially the clones and the Jedi's face) and with all those details, and there are loads of details, and lights, which where important to support the atmosphere.
So here they are, a Jedi with his two remaining Troopers, finally detected in there hideaway, now facing their last fight...
-
OUTSTANDING. Not one thing could have been done better.....
-
Wow! Awesome image! It does have a very dark feel to it. Makes you wonder what is in the tunnel ahead.
-
How lucky am I that Stefan honored me with his talent!!!
I always toyed with the idea of a Jedi and a trooper or two that did not have the programing or what ever not to follow Order 66.
I never have found the time to write such a story but now I don't need too cause like they always say " a picture is worth a thousand words"
I freaked out when Stefan sent this to me, the detail is amazing!!! The lights!! the look on the jedi's face The cave and landscape!!
I could go on forever!!!
Thanks Stefan you are a true artist and Grand Master!!!
Thanks again,
Rich
-
Wow! In looking at the before and after images, all I can say is what great work by both of you!
-
Thanks a lot guys!!
You know your feedback means the world to me and keeps me going :)
Rich, reading how happy you are really made my day and its so great to see that you are with me and my vision of your ideas. Cause it was your fantastic work and your story that ignited my inspiration and its your customs that made this piece unique.
Thank you!

Art another magnificent piece mate and the dark atmosphere really works for this piece.

Hey Ron, thank you so much for your kind words, glad to hear that the dark atmosphere in this one works well for you :)
jetzt muss ich bald Gewichte an den Füßen tragen, damit ich nicht davonschwebe bei all dem Lob LOL
ganz herzlichen Dank, Christoph!!
-
You did it again, Stephan! While being dark, this image is also very rich to me with a great amount of depth. I'll be you had a ball with this one.
-
Fabulous piece of work, Art! Very mood-evoking - I can *see* the almost fatalistic, grim determination in the jedi and the near-childlike assurance of success in the stance of the clones.
-
Looks great Stefan, on the front page.
-
thanks a million for your detailed insights, its so great to hear what your guys see and appreciated in my artwork!!
and again a fall on my knees for the fp feature, Tamer :)
and don't tell anybody that I pay you for doing it LOL
-
LOL. You know me, I can't keep good work off the front page.
-
awesome, is the jedi in training gear?
-
awesome, is the jedi in training gear?
thanks GS!!
hmm, I guess not, he is a skilled Jedi and its the time after order 66 took place, so he is not wearing a typical Jedi robe anymore...
but its not my design, Darknsour invented him and the trooper!

ok cool, your art is amazing, i wonder what my customs would look like with the art treatment ;)
-
Yes I used the jedi in training gear figure with the head from a comic pack .
I don't remember which one, it had a old and young jedi in it.
The Idea is the clones had a malfuntion in their programming and did not carry out Order 66.
So the clones are still sworn to their Jedi, so they are on the run from the Empire but they have run out of luck!!
And Stefan caught that in a great piece of art work!!!
Thanks everyone!
Rich

Stefan, your artwork just keeps blowing me away man. I don't even know what to say......
being speechless is a big compliment :D
thanks a lot for your ongoing support, my friend!

Art, just wanted to stop in and say how much your work inspires. I don't always get in here to comment (as I spend much of my time on the figs board), but just had to let you know how awesome it is when I see your work on the fp (or anywhere else for that matter). Keep 'em coming; can't wait to see more!

Hey JM, I know one cannot show up every where or leave a comment, days are not long enough to follow all our interests, same with me ;) So I greatly appreciate your lovley words and lettign me know. I am happy to hear that you do enjoy my works so much, you know, its always fantastic and like a miracle when my paintings, which I did of course according to my taste, make someone else say "I like that, too".
Thanks a lot, my friend. And sure more to come, I definitelly can't stop doing my stuff :)

fantastic artwork Art that shadow stormie one is very reminiscent of some of the Warhammer 40K cover art . me likey!

thanks a lot, wraith9!!
its a awesome compliment to be so positively compared with cover art of Warhammer. they have top notch artists at work.
I wish I had more time to get into this universe, too.

Well, I never spread it around and I am sorry if I now talk about just me but I am so excited about the news I just received... I would like to share them with you, my friends.
About a year ago I sent some of my artworks to Hasbro Germany, don't know why, I simply did it ;) And out of the blue some months later I received a call from the Senior Brand Manager asking if I would do a one-page commercial for them to be published in the German fan club magazin. Unbelievable... she was so excited about my works and got the chance to act without restrictions from Hasbro International and wanted me to do the job - and I did :)
Of course I was on cloud no. 9... and now, just a few hours ago, Hasbro called again and asked for an 3/4 page commercial to be published inside a catalog of a big warehouse.
Its just amazing! And of course I accepted again.
Because of my ongoing collectors cards project for the Norwich SW club, UK, and now the Hasbro commercial I am still closed for other requests, though. I am sorry for that but I hope you understand. Nevertheless my work for Rustycustoms, he requested his Thoorn Vos, is on its way and will be published soon!! I promise!
-
-
Well done, you deserve it!!!
Can't wait to see images!!!
-
That is so awesome! I am so glad for you and can't wait to see these images!
-
That is just great news Stefan!
And before I forget again. If you find Stefan on facebook he has great images he shows us on there for many things besides SW. I love the artwork from Lord of the Rings for example.
-
congrats Stefon! once again great talent is finally recognised
-
Thanks a lot, guys, for sharing my joy!!
and thanks, tamer, for promoting my little Facebook gallery. For those who are interested but aren't on FB can view my works at my deviantART account at http://art-dewhill.deviantart.com/ (http://art-dewhill.deviantart.com/) or follow my English blog http://art-dewhill.tumblr.com/ (http://art-dewhill.tumblr.com/)
regarding images about the Hasbro project I have to disappoint you, for I am not allowed to show anything on the web. thats part of the contract. Sorry.
-
I was afraid you were gonna say that!
Can you share them after they have been published?
-
I was afraid you were gonna say that!
Can you share them after they have been published?
can't tell at the moment, but of course I will ask...i did not by the first job but now I guess I should give it a try...Besides presenting them here it would make a great note in my portfolio :D
-
Congrats!! That's awesome news.
-
Congrats!! That's awesome news.
thank you, Doc!
just waiting to wake up and see if its still true ;)
-
Congrats!!!
I'm very happy for you!!!

-
You guys are my idols, I hope I can learn great art from you all!
-
thanks a lot, Rich and Randy!!
I am awake now and the email from Hasbro is still in my inbox, so it must be true... ;)
Randy, you just have to practice and practice and practice and ask questions ;) you have an eye for colors and coposition, thats wonderful seed money :)
-
seeing the drawings and scetches of Screaming Samurai Studio I remembered this very old one of mine, man, done back in 1983! Seems like I am almost as old as Yoda :D
done with pencils on paper.
enjoy!

that's amazing
-
Daggone Stefan, that looks great. wow.
-
thanks a lot, guys!!
-
This looks awesome to me, on the front page.
-
That's a great portrait of Luke, Art! I've always been partial to Luke and his journey (despite his whining in the films) and this piece provides a glimpse of his evolution.
Thanks for sharing!
-
Grandios Stefan, einfach grandios.
Wieder einmal bin ich sprachlos.
-
besten Dank, Christoph!
Tamer, thank you so much for another fp feature :) its always a big honor!
Thanks, JediMerc, for your wonderful insights on this one, its great to hear what thoughts my audience has when looking at my works!
BTW I am just working on my own facebook page @ http://www.facebook.com/pages/boettcherART/112588532155998 (http://www.facebook.com/pages/boettcherART/112588532155998)
don't know it this really makes sense, but the idea came up by some folks during a discussion when voice actor Stephen Stanton posted some big supporting words regarding my artworks (AWESOME he did so). There would be maybe one advantage for people can easily just "like" my page and don't have to become my "friend" first, somekind of separating the ones who are only interested in my works and the ones who want me to know as person...
so you are welcome to "like" my page, which of course is still under construction ;) anyway I will send invitations by the time I have something to showcase there.
Thanks!
-
Great man, love it!
-
thank you, Captain!!
-
okay, my new facebook page is now up and running, artworks copied from my personal page to "boettcherART" as I call myself there. There is a special album regarding my toy and model kit composites and of course you yarders are in it too, with backlink to the yards of course.
All new works will be posted at boettcherART but of course with a notification for my friends on my profile page ;)
I also left an invitation link on the Yarder facebook page, hope you don't mind, Shawn, of course you can delete it if you don't want it up there (by that time I didn't knew how to send page recommendations ::) )
You are all welcome to join me:

Thanks!

I very much liked the Toorn Vos figure made by RustyCustoms and when we got talking into artworks I could do for him my focus was set of course on this one. Rusty has figured out a pretty detailed background story about this fictional character and it was Rusty who suggested to show Toorn after a fight in a area scene.
So here he is. Enjoy!

Ron
-
WOW!!!
I love it!!!
Great detail!!!
Another great piece !!!
Keep up the great work!!!
Rich
-
oh my, pure awesome! That is one BA dude! So well executed my friend!
-
Wow, when you combine good customs with good art it is just specatacular.
Thanks for getting this on the fp L.E.
-
FanTAStic piece, Art! It all blends together so well!
-
thank you so much, guys, and for the fp feature, too - you all are so kind :)
-
really cool image Stefan
I'm sure Rusty will love it
Toorn Vos gehört wohl nicht gerade zu den Leuten denen man gerne alleine im Dunkeln begegnet.
-
Great figure and great art. Outstanding job Stefan!
-
@Fiala:
da stimme ich dir absolut zu, ich wöllte ihm nicht begegnen ;)
herzlichen Dank, Christoph - thank you so much, my friend! yeah, Rusty freaked out, I did sent the pic to him via PM. It was cool to receive his positive feedback, cause you never know how the customer will react to my creations before they are delivered...
@ CS:
a big THX to you, my friend, its a great push to get such uplifting feedback :)
-
Stunning image Art, you've got the face perfect, the expression really draws you into the picture. Wonderful work!
-
thanks a lot, jules!!
glad you mentioned the face... for it was a bit of a struggle but seems I got it right in the end ;)
-
I know you ive told you personally Art but i wanted everyone to hear this. Lately as a few of you know i havnt been in such a great way, you know hormones, girlfriend now ex girlfriend work all that jazz has really been getting me down and i kinda gave up on this. But when art sent this to me i honestly almost shed a tear, call my over dramtaic and cliche but its been a few months since ive had anyone really go above and beyond for me. Me and Art decided i would make him his own version of a custom Vos but with everything i let my end go and he didnt. So Art im telling you here, that you wont be reciving one but two custom figures from me. 1 custom toorn Vos and one lucky dip just for being such a great guy. I will have them both done and sent within the month =D
thankyou again Art your truley a good guy.
-
A great jesture for a great guy indeed! This is another great thing to see happen here at the yards. I tell you there is no place like it! Hey Rusty, I know exactly how you felt man.
-
I can only echo Spry's words: there is no place like the Yards!
Rusty, I greatly appreciate your words and ambitions, you are a fine guy! (http://www.planet-smilies.de/trinken/trinken_017.gif)
and hey, no need to rush things, just find your way back to the tracks of life, the hobby and I can wait ;)
Thanks a lot, my friend!
-
Well ive come up with some little ideas, and a story. they will be a kind of pair and go together and be part of the same story =D
and yeh spry, youd know its not much fun, but im trying to get back to relaity and not be such a zombie and what better place to start then reconnecting with my old friends at the yards.
and agreed no place like the yards. =D
also guys if you have fb aff my band. (im the drummer if your interested) =D

Hey guys,
well, I didn't get much sleep the last two nights, a lot of thinking, painting... and finally I made a decission.
It seems that I now, last night, have made the next step. My English is not good enough to describe my feelings, I am sorry for that, but let me tell you that somehow all the tremendous feedback on my LOTR paintings, the encouraging words coming from you, my Yarder friends, and the fact that suddenly the works of Paul Chadeisson and Steve Anderson had a big impact on me, all this coming together finally pushed me into the hopefully right direction I have been looking for - on how my future digital work might look like...
Because I was not sure about how things will work out I decided to use Spudafett's awesome Tex-Mando shot showing only the upper part of the figure - thanks a lot for the permission, Spuda! - so I just had to deal with a lot of landscape and half of a figure ;) To make the story short, I am totally satisfied how this experiment turned out and I have the ambition to do all my new digital stuff this way and see how things will evolve. Its now even more a conceptual impressionistic sketch - and that is how my works should look like :)
Hopefully you are still with me, I am looking forward to read your comments and critique, even if its saying "I liked the other style better". I fully understand that its all a matter of taste.
Thank you!
Art

Art you know that not just me but alot of guys here are great fans of your work and this latest piece is exceptionally mindblowing.
The textures in the painting are so realistic, you can actaully see the threads and the feel the slightest breeze, this is without a doubt the style of your work I would love to see in future pieces.
Ron
-
Stefan;
As you know I'm a huge fan of your work!!! This latest piece of work is AMAZING!!!
Just when I thought I've seen it all you take it to a new level !!!!
I love the way it looks !!! Someday when you are accepting work again let me know I would love for you to do another piece for me!!!
Keep up the great work, can't wait to see what comes next!!!
Take care
Your friend,
Rich
-
oh my...
i need a second to breath
-
Amazing work Art! I love the style and texture of this one. Very well done my friend. Spud will be thrilled to see this.
-
Stefan this is some awesome work my friend
-
I dunno - I think you should try another one in this style, just so we can see if the tex-mando is an accidental one-off AWESOME JOB!!! or if your new style/direction is the foundation of many *more* awesome projects to come!
"Do it again, dad! Do it again!"
(obscure Yak's Pub joke)
-
wow that is breathtaking the detail is amazing love all your work art !!!!!!!
-
Now, that right there is pure awesome!
-
WOW, thank you so much, guys!! Your compliments mean the world to me, thank you for this fantastic feedback!
But don't forget, the honor goes to Spudafett cause his gorgeous Mando is the true star of this image and its wonderful that he too likes my version a lot.
Like Ron said the contrast between the realistic looking texture (though it is far from being really like the real thing) and the loose areas is a major attraction, playing with different textures, light, color contrasts...
@Doc: you are absolut right, the next works will tell us the truth about my ideas and skills, is this just an accidental success, can I settle the style...?? I am as curious as you are. Its all very exciting for me.
much to learn I have :D
@Rich: I am greatly honored and sure will do another artwork for you when my big commissions are done and I know how to deal with my new style here. I'll let you know :) thank you!
-
I like it Stefan. I see L.E. beat me to the fp with it.
I think this new style makes the custom stand out really nice.
-
That is one excellent piece of work! I want that Mando, done in oils, in my living room. (I'm sure my wife would have something to say about that though!)
You say you're on the fence as to whether your skills are up to snuff: I'll tell you what, this is pure genius!
-
Soft while powerful. I love it, Art!
-
As I said on both FaceBook and Deviantart, FANTASTIC work! This was a very pleasant surprise to wake up to this morning. I love everything about it, the impressionist style is perfect. I love the background you've created as well.
I'd love to see a step by step "work in progress" series of images if you do another of these. I'd love to see the progression of your images and how you work through each fundamental step.
ultimately, you picked one of my favorite customs and I'm still blown away by the results!
-
again you all put a smile on my face, thank you so very much for your amazing support and for another fp feature. I am extremly honored and thankful that I am able to give you the inspiration I get from your works back through my artworks, if you know what I mean :)
Spudafett, I will see how to get such an step-by-step WIP done ;)
-
Another winner Art!
-
Art, I want to open an art museum to display your original works. You never cease to amaze!
-
thank you, Randy and VA!!
too much honor.
I greatly appreciate your fantastic support, I mean it!
Next piece is on its way... but first lets do some gardening to clear the mind and connect it with earth :)
-
second one on my way to develop and push my new conceptual digital painting style, another two long (or short) nights ;) fooled around with textures and blur to simulate debris and movement and did some watercolor-like background. Learned a lot. And again its ALL painted but of course used and needed a photo for reference.
Besides techniques idea and inspiration count and both came to me while looking through AFE's blog. This time no custom figure but a simple well know Snowtrooper just to focus on pure action instead a cool customs ;)
Thanks to AFE for his permission and immediately posting the finished pic: http://actionfigureempire.blogspot.com/2011/04/blizzard-march.html (http://actionfigureempire.blogspot.com/2011/04/blizzard-march.html)
He titled it Blizzard March which is really cool I think.
Enjoy!
-
I need some painting lessons from you Master Art!
-
Art my friend I am sorry I have neglected you here. I replied to this in AFE's thread but had to "echo" here how much I love this. You have done so many great works, other than my Norris Tretch you immortalized with your touch, it is hard to pick a favorite. Anyone who has had there custom graced on your canvas will say the same on there's I know, but this is in the top 5ish for me. Snowtroopers are my second favorite troopers. Bravo!
-
you are too kind, Randy :) thank you for this wonderful compliment!
LE, don't worry, my friend, I didn't expect a second reply ;)
I really do appreciate your uplifting feedback and I am very happy this scene managed to jump into such a hight rank on your list of faves. I also like it a lot and I must say that I am feeling very comfortable with my new technique.
Though I am still closed for "real" commissions as long as I have those other big things going I very much want to develop my new style and therefore need loads of motifs :D which means I will pick up customs and ideas coming from you yarders ;)
Its a wonderful place, so full of inspiration and creative atmosphere, thank you all!!
Art
-
very well done Master Art
-
Hi Fiala,
such uplifting comments like yours are never too late :D
besides a few yarders no one seems to have noticed my "Blizzard March" yet maybe because of the easter weekend, so you are fare from being late.
Thanks a lot!!
Just a secret: I indeed had looked up a Eastwood western shot to get a feeling for my image ;)
-
Another masterful job on "Blizzard March". Gosh, the titles you give your work is nearly as amazing as the pieces themselves...
I really have no more words...
:o (in awe)
-
Thanks, JM!! I greatly appreciate your highly motivating words :)
but the honor for the amazing title here goes to ActionFigEmpire, he used it on his blog this way and I loved it so much that I just had to keep it - definitely a Blizzard March into battle ;)
-
that is ultimate, honestly! just one of those moments " art, you've made pants go warm again"
-
;D
thanks a lot, beige-4!! I am glad I could give such a "warm moment" ;)
-
Someone - sorry, I have forgotten the name - asked a while ago, if I may post some WIPs of the progress of one of my digital paintings. This evening I had the idea for a new one and remembered this question. Though I cant tell when I will have the time to do the next steps here is what I did today in about 2 hours.
STEP 1: first layer of "paint", applied freehand using the airbrush tool
STEP 2: now I painted in the clouds, again freehand work, loosly based on a photo for reference. Also I added some haze and smoothed the horizon.
STEP 3: now I added the barbwire, just some loose lines in various colors and thickness, not really realistic in detail but pretending to be detailed.
STEP 4: a painting needs excitement in shapes, colors and sometimes in textures. Therefore I added some sand textures, meaning using a photograph of real sand and applying it as layer, combining it with the sand layer and reducing its visibility.
If you haven't figured out which action figure will show up in this one, now the secret is revealed ;)
In this STEP 5 I took the actual shot of Sandy out of ActionFigEmpires blog, toghether with bits and pieces from other Sandtroopers including the new Female Stormtrooper statue to get my personal render of her. This montage was then partially overpainted to introduce the correct basic colors, shadows, lights and so on...
NEXT steps will focus on the painting of Sandy, using the concept image I have made of her.
For now its good night :)
Art
-
Art, sorry but the barbed wire looks superb...do you use a tablet or a mouse???
-
Very Cool!!!
Great stuff Stefan!!!
As always!!!
Can't wait to see the end result!!!
Rich
-
Oh my Stefan, this is awesome being able to see this come together! Thanks so much for taking your time to give us this glimpse inside your world.
-
thank you for your interest, guys!! :)
still a long way to go till this one will be finished...
@Hangarbay: I use a Wacom tablet "Intuos 3 PTZ 930" and I guess it would be impossible or at least great pain to do this with the mouse.
-
Ahh, that explains some of your amazing skills.... I tried using a tablet, but didn't persevere. I still have it, so will try again. You are a true inspiration Art!
-

yeah, I know what you mean.
To me a tablet is a MUST have tool, I couldn't work without, but its tricky... I try to use it like an airbrush and pencils/copics and I very much like the use of textures. But its totally different form using oils or acrylics in thick strokes ;)
-
Amazing work man!
-
thanks a lot, Captain!!
Here comes the next episode of this WIP, a cruel one, painstaking, endless hours...
STEP 6: this was the hardest part, painting the complete figure and I had a lot of trouble with it. the first two hours nothing seemed to go right, I just could not catch up with my loose brush work I was looking for, everthing was looking stiff, dead... if you know what I mean. Then one arm was too long, the neck too short, thanks to the digital world the corrections where easy ones. Then slowly but surely I got it right or at least the way I wanted it.
For her face I used a reference photo of a (nameless) photo model as vague lead but of course I had to incorporate my own light and backlight reflections and new hair.
STEP 7: some minor corrections on the armor and adding cool looking light fx on the gun ;) I know its not screen accurate, but do I care? :D
(http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss244/brickart/Sandy-WIP4.jpg)
She still looks so shiny, right? So on the next steps I will add loads of weatherhing.
Till then.
-
WOWSA! i bet you zoom really closely and add every detail by microscopic standards
-
Thank you, beige-4!!
well, it depends on what part I am working, and its a large painting, so normally I had a 66.7 % view for overall work, but 300 % to get the details of the face done, see a screenshot in original size here: http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss244/brickart/Sandy_face.jpg (http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss244/brickart/Sandy_face.jpg)
-
WOW!!!
That is amazing!!!! She is beautiful!!! I want to meet her!!!! LOL
Great work as always!!!
Can't wait to see her when she is done!!!

thanks a lot, Rich!! your support is much appreciated.
LOL well, maybe she lives in the digital realms somewhere and you have to go there like they do in TRON :D
-
Looks great Stefan. Expect to see this featured on our fp soon. I am so sorry I am a bit swamped right now, but this just looks golden to me.
-
fantastic work
can't wait to see the final result
-
@Tamer: thanks a lot!! cool to hear that she will be a frontpage girl soon :D pics with weathering on will come soon.
@Fiala: thank you for your great feedback :) well yes, I really like those little light fx on the blasters and besides that they help to make that particular area of the image more interesting, also blue and orange are a wonderful pair of complementary colors and such pairings always bring life into a painting, even if they are tiny ;)
-
That she is now Stefan. Looks great to me already.
-
That she is now Stefan. Looks great to me already.
thank you very much, Tamer!!
maybe I should offer different poster versions at the end: with and without weathering and the final look I have in mind ;)
-
amazing !!!!!!!!!! as always awesome job art ;D
-
thanks a lot SH, glad you like her :D

Guess I was under a rock with some Jawas out in the Jundland wastes... oh wait nope, that's where I work haha--anyway I can't believe I missed this thread! As a fellow artist and lover of Star Wars I have to say I feel such immense honor at having had Art take a liking to my work! Whether they're just photo references, or actual digital renderings these are some of the coolest works I have ever seen. As a painter, photographer, and all around creative type (I like to think so anyway...) It's absolutely true what they say! "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." But allow me to clarify, these are no imitations--no-no, these are genuine works of awesome! There are few joys in the world like that of having a fellow artist, and friend create something inspired by something you have created. It's synonymous to musicians jamming together, composing together, and soloing in those jams--playing off one another and getting ideas and practice as they go.
Makes me proud to be a Yarder, Blogger, Collector, and of course, Fan.
Thank you for all the warm words Art, and all the support for Art's work is wonderful to see! AFE is proud to be collaborating with one of the Empire's finest creative engineers! Plan on this being a lasting arrangement ;)
By the time you're reading this (everyone) the wonderful WIP diptych will be up on the AFE home page. Oh and Art, it is already my desktop on my laptop!
Now if I may steel this thread for just a moment, I have a bunch of newly acquired figures and customs brewing! Plan to see a custom AT-AT Driver of our very own Tamer soon!

thanks a lot, AFE!! the honor and pleasure is all mine.
I greatly like your words about the musicians jamming together, thats exactly the way I see it, too!
cool to see Sandy on your blog, sure more works to come. Your blog - in fact the whole yards are full of fantastic inspirations and its too bad there is so little time to put my hands on them... but we all suffer the same here ;)
again, thank you!!
BTW you found a fantastic title for the Sandy image, again I will keep this for the final image!!! cool, for I alway struggle with titles ;)
and I am looking forward to this AT-AT-Driver...
you ALL keep me going and your ideas are pushing mine!! I even got fantastic support from Mr. Stephen Stanton aka Voice of Captain Tarkin from TCW who calls himself a big fan of my works!!
so lets share my high spirits and have a wonderful Star Wars Day!

Stefan thanks heaps for showing us how you actually do a painting I never would have thought that you did it layers like that amazing. I still can't over how you get all the finer details into your work it has and will always amaze me.
Keep up the excepetional work buddy and look forward to seeing more soon.
Ron
-
Hey Ron,
thanks a lot for your wonderful words, you are greatly appreciated!!
sure more to come, and BTW there are still a lot of inspirations out of your fantastic customs on my list ;)
-
Anytime buddy always love seeing your work and look forward to seeing what you come up with next. As mentioned before use whatever you want from my site mate I'm always flattered when you do one of my customs.
Ron
-
Just stunning Art, the hand painted styler of your work always makes me look deeper into your images...I end up scratching my head and saying "how the hell does he do that?" I am constantly inspired by your skills.
Jules
-
Jules, coming from such a virtuoso like you are your compliment means the world to me, I mean it!!
Thank you so much, I am inspired by you, too and in awe about how you manage to invent all your great graphic novels, doing words and pics! Its cool to see so many different but complementing talents here at the yards.
yeah, I have the feeling that my work has improved and gotten more vivid since I introduced my hand painted techniques a bit, we'll see where this all leads me to ;)
-
Happy Star Wars Day everyone!
-
Hey guys,
had a crap day at work, also not so looking forward to doing my health workouts today (but they are a must) so time to enjoy the Yards, get loads of inspiration out of your customs and throw some enjoyment (hopefully) back to you :)
here is my teaser of an upcoming action figure artwork - I know everyone is waiting for me to get my female Sandtrooper finished, but I have this one is up on my sleeve, too. So stay tuned ;)
-
Sorry to hear about your day Art! Sounds like you had a 'rancor' of a time ;) Love this sneak preview you're tantalizing us with! Take your time with Sandy! Don't rush yourself. Remember, "You can't force genius" :)
-
WOW Art, what an incredible teaser. I cant wait to see the finished project!
-
If that thing is on your sleeve you should probably brush it off before it bites you... haha
But seriously, cool teaser... Staying tuned.
-
thanks for your kind words, AFE :)
well, I guess there are worst things than a bad day at work ;) so what.
yeah the rancor is pretty cool, at least I am very satisfied with it. Lets see how the whole painting will work out ;) And I so much love Sandy, it'll get hard to top her with the female Mando...
Hi VA, glad you already enjoy the pic, thanks a lot!!
thanks for staying tuned, KRI!! much appreciated - and yeah, I should go on a Rancor hunt :D
-
Wow, looks great. Just got done thanking you on the front page for the back art on the cards. I can see this is gonna have to hit the fp too.
-
thanks a lot, Tamer! The cards just rock!! KRI did an awesome job, and you know what I like the most about this thing is the combination of so many talents: customs, paintings, graphic design!! and all for the Yards. I have never experienced something like that before and I can tell you its something being for ever remembered and I am proud to be part of it. I mean it.
-
Chin up bro it only gets better trust me and awesome teaser you can smell it's rotten breath from here.
Ron
-
thanks a lot for your uplifting words, Ron!
:D yeah, the Rancor was fun to do, so much slime LOL will post the finished piece soon.
-
WOW!!!
Can't wait to see the whole thing!!!
I love the way it looks already!!!
You never disappoint!!!!
Keep up the great work!!
Rich
-
thank you so much, Rich!
means a lot to me :)
-
as promised and because my little poll on my facebook page faved Sandy instead of the Rancor to be showcased first I'll continue with the WIP on her:
I added three different layers of weathering: first tiny little hand drawn scratches in two different colors, second the big hand painted spots and stains and as last layer a photograph of weahtered and rusted metal, which I combined with the other ones.
i also added a dust layer to blend her with the surrounding.
One could call the painting finished now, only thing missing is the ActionFigureEmpire logo for I did the image for him and his blog.
BUT when I am looking onto this painting and the weathered armor my artists eyes are not 100% satisfied and see a different version, one where the elements of the image are in a better balance, where the textures of the weathering include the whole motif... so I must go back and start working again...
As always thanks a lot for your interest and thoughts!

-
WOW!!!!!! This looks amazin! you think it needs to be redone? you're crazy haha she looks so perfect! Thanks so much for this amazing piece! i can't wait to post the finished piece on the blog!
-
Art I'm really enjoying seeing the tutorial on how you go about doing your works of art. I always impressed with your eye on details you make a painting come to life, for example
1: The armour has just enough wear and tear and the right amount of weathering.
2: The body suit you can see the finer details ofthe fabric.
3: Facial features look realisctic such as the skin tones, hair and eyes.
4: The shadowing is in the right places which alone is amazing beacuse alot of people tend to stuff this up by over doing it or putting the shadows in the wrong places.
5: The sand you cn actually see where the wind has blown and left ripples.
again mate just amazing skills .
Ron
-
HI AFE, glad you like her!!! your final version with logo on will be posted later that day, I promise :)
Ron, its amazing to read your insights for you exactly noticed all the things I am really taking care of, the details which are important to me allthough I am painting in a loose style. But these details count to achive the allover impression I am looking for.
thank you so much, my friend!
Stefan
-
here she comes:
Desert Rose of Tatooine :)
this is the final version I made for ActionFigEmpire:
I guess thats the version everybody wants and likes to see, but as mentioned earlier, to me and my artists eyes something was not quite in balance and so I did this personal verion of her:
Note: this is an updated version.
Maybe hard to follow why I had to add that textures all over the image, but I simply had to do it and as always its all a matter of taste ;)
So I hope you like at least one version of her and if you do feel free to spread the word in your blogs :D My facebook page will get this update tomorrow.
My wife suggested to turn her into somekind of propagande poster like "women help to wipe out that rebel scum" or something like they did in WW2. Cool idea I think.
thanks a lot and enjoy your sunday!
-
Great Job!!!
She looks amazing!!!!!
I can totally believe she is part of the Star Wars universe!!!!
Great detail as always!!! Great face!!! She looks like she could be someone that we might have known !!!!
Very cool!!!
Another pretty lady who can be evil!!!!
Another great piece of art!!!
Rich
-
Cool stuff. Yeah, I can see her or another like her posing like Rosie the Riveter.
-
Amazing work my friend! I love the last version with the additional texture, just awesome! That propaganda poster would Rock! May I suggest a KRI colaboration? Nate would kill it! in a good way.
-
Wow Stefan, I love it.
On the front page.
-
Hey Rich, wow, you are really enthusiastic about her :) I am so glad seeing you are pleased and your words telling me how believable she is mean a lot to me! thank you so much, my friend.
@Jedi Minstrel: yeah, I guess I definitely will do some one of such propaganda poses or maybe a nose art chick :)
@Luke: thank you very much for your kind words! its very uplifting to see you responding so positive to my personal and favorite version :)
For I am not good in graphic design stuff I am absolutly with you regarding collaborative works. All the graphic wizards out there please feel free to fool around with this one :D
@Tamer: you comment brightend up my soul, thank you! And I bow my head for the fp feature, its so cool to see her there!!
BTW I have opened a Redbubble account to provide selected works as cards or posters. The handling is easy and I believe they have fair prizes. The most important thing is that I do NOT make any money with these prints. Of course like every artist I am open for a patronage ;) but fan art is non-commercial stuff and any other behavior would be a copyright infringement against Lucasfilm or other copyright holders!
All prizes namend on my account are simply the service costs as fixed by Redbubble. I will post updates on items on my facebook page - and my "Desert Rose" here will soon be available.
Again thank you all for your ongoing phenomenal support and for being a constant inspiration.
Stefan
-
That's awesome news Art! Thrilled to hear about the opportunity to be able to own Sandy as more than just a bunch of pixels and digital code! Definitely going to order one for us here at AFE! Maybe it'd be possible to do a print with the original AFE photo on one side and the finished painting on the other? like a diptych? In other news you're up on the blog right now with a big front page feature on Sandy! http://actionfigureempire.blogspot.com/2011/05/desert-rose-final-cut.html
I also have a link up to this thread for my readers to click to and a link to your Facebook page. And once again, she's my laptop desktop :)
Awesome! So many updates tonight! Phew!
-
thank you so much, AFE, for all the fantastic support and all the honoring words about me on your blog, makes me blush, my friend :)
I am very proud of this painting myself, she jumped right onto my list of personal faves.
-
Hi Stefan
Mate I just spent the last 15 minutes looking over the final version and mate all I can say is that I don't like it at all, I F' 'in love it.
The smaller tutorial pics don't do it justice at all, the larger pic is amazing piece of art and there is more details in it that the eyes don't pick up until you look at it for a while.
I personally like the first version as it highlights the Tatooine atmosphere perfectly sun glare of the sun the dust in the air just amazing details. I 've even notice more things from before.
1: You can actually see the different strands of hair.
2: The eyes are just so life like with the lashes and pink flesh in the eyes.
3: The leather has that real worn look to it like leather should have being knocked about.
4: The armour has depth to it which really gives it more structure.
5: And Finally when you actually stand back from the pic it actually looks like a 3d model.
Ron
-
Hi Ron,
my friend, what can I say... I am very grateful to read all your detailed insights and how you noticed everything, all the details I so very much take care of, which are important to me, I am proud of in this painting!! Thank you for your time, for sharing your thoughts and for putting this big smile on my face :) I am glad my painting was a joy to look at.
Thanks!
Stefan
-
another masterpiece Stefan
you are the Leonardo da Vinci of SW artwork
-
Uhh wow, Christoph, I very much like this da Vinci compliment :)
thank you so much my friend!! I am glad you are pleased with my painting of this Desert Rose and to be honest, she jumped right into my heart as well. I am really happy how the painting turned out and cant believe I did this job!!
-
for those who are interested my "print store" at redbubble is now open and ready to run:
http://www.redbubble.com/people/artdewhill/portfolio (http://www.redbubble.com/people/artdewhill/portfolio)
First items are up and again: I do not make money with the prints, its just a printing service of my works with the prizing for making and shipping my items fixed by redbubble.
More added soon.
-
I will get this link added to our hyperlinks section when I do an update.
-
I will get this link added to our hyperlinks section when I do an update.
oh wow, unexpected this is.
thank you very much, Tamer. This would be a awesome service for the folks who requested posters and stuff.
Again I am really overwhelmed by all of the Yarders support, encouragement and the friendship!!
I raise my glass!!
-
Project updates: started research for the poster project of AFE's Kixxy, the lesbian X-Wing pilot. Though his figure looks great I am thinking of heading in a new direcion regarding her face and hair style...
the already announced Rancor is coming very soon, also I am thinking of maybe doing a Shaak Ti Felucia-style and I guess its time to do a Republic Commando or special OPS Trooper in heavy combat gear, so I guess I have to start searching the Yard's archives...
I guess I will also re-establish my poster layout first introduced on my Lady Ice artwork. Using those white spaces combined wit a frame behind the character I can put the obligtory Lucasfilm copyright wording there and e.g a Yarder logo or any other logo eeded without any disturbing of my image... and my backgrounds don't have to be some sort of actual surroundings to the figure. But we will see :D
So its all about self-motivation I guess, still got no satisfying answer from the british club about the cards I am doing for them, how and when they will be published, if they will be promoted and things like that. Have two more to go but its all slow and hard to do them with fun at the moment... on the other hand if the project can't be finished as planned I can still put another backbround behind the characters and make a new series of cards e.g for the yards :)
Also I was too trusty and finished a commissioned artwork for a guy who contacted me via facebook but for which I now wasn't paid for... but doing the artwork was good practice so its just a lesson in life.
But enough bad thoughts, its a great sunny sunday, so lets enjoy it.
cheers, Art
EDIT:
most recent update: Close up of Kixxy's face. I decided to go for a more retro hair style, not too short, not too long... just different, I don't know how to describe it and why I went for it, I just think its right ;)
-
Oh wow Art! That's phenomenal! She really comes to life there! I love the hair style you're playing with! Very boyish 1970s style! I imagine her coming up to Luke and Han and the gang and being star-struck haha. Even if this isn't the final version of Kixxy, this is a phenomenal young Rebel pilot you've created! I almost want to create a new character here haha but that's just the story-teller in me. The hair--the eyes--the lips--it just pops! I'm going to send you a PM so we can talk more shop about it :)
Amazing work my friend! And to think it's only a very brief sketch! ha!
-
Art exceptional work already and AFE is correct she has that real 70's hair style that really suits the SW universe.
Ron
-
Hey, guys, thanks a lot for your compliments, as always they are much appreciated and motivating :)
AFE, its not just a biref sketch of her but the final head as close up screenshot. Next I am working on her overall and helmet very close to your figure. Stay tuned, talk to you soon.
-
Beautiful Stefan. Back on the front page with you. I can't wait to see the overall shot of her.
I love hearing about your updates. It burns me to think you got stiffed on a comission. I don't like folks who reneg on their end of a deal.
-
Hey, thanks a lot, Shawn!! its great to see that rebel woman on the fp :)
though she meanwhile needs a new name for AFE and I got new ideas and twists on his Kixxy character I definitely will finish the image with her. wow, its so uplifting to see your interest in my updates!
well, I'll file that bad commission under "experience of life in dealing with other Star Wars fans" and reconsider my strategy on that ;)
-
Looks great Sthefan! I love the hair style, fits in with the pilots we see in the Rebel briefing scene in a New Hope.
-
Thanks a lot, Spry !
you found a perfect description of what I was trying to achive with her looks :)
-
There is absolutely nothing "bad" about her, she just seems to be entirely her own new orifinal character. Ah perhaps she's Pasha, Kixxy's friend who helps her join the alliance? Or maybe she's one of the pilots in Kixxy's Banshee squadron?Just a thought or two. She is tremendous! you really have an amazing touch and facesare never easy :)
-
hey cool, thats a fantastic idea, to make her one of Kixxy's banshee squadron or perhaps Pasha!!! yeah, I like that :D
-
your work is amazing that pictur tells a story all on its own awesome job art!!!
-
Hey, Sithhappens, thanks a lot for your great feedback!!
Updates coming soon, meanwhile I have finished the background, reworked her hair a bit- smoothing the outlines, also started on her outfit, but still a long way to go ;)
-
Stefan;
Another great face!!! Wonderful job!!!!
I love her lips!!!! Perfect!!!
Her and the female stormtrooper are great!!!
Keep up the great work!!!
Rich
-
thanks a lot, Rich!!
yeah, I love doing the faces, but unfortunately I cannot paint them out of my mind and have to rely on references at least as some sort of starting point.
-
You mean the stormtrooper chick and the Hot rebel Pilot girl really exist!!!
Let's get together with them!!!
LOL!!!
Great job!!!
Rich
-
hehe, yeah - they really exist at least from a certain point of view;)
for I do not copy the reference photos in an exact manner there is no 100% likeness, also I like to change things a bit... so they have at least their sisters in the real world LOL
-
Today is a public holiday here in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, commonly known as "father's day" :)
so time to upload my long announced and now finished "Facing the Rancor"! A commissioned piece done again in my comic-like outline style.
Because of the spare time today I maybe continue work on Pasha, the rebel pilot or start doing research on Republic Commando figures, for I very much would do a poster in a cool action pose and RC's would be perfect ;)
But first, see Starkiller facing a jungle Rancor on Felucia:
thanks for watching,
Art
-
Very Cool!!!
The colors POP!!!
Great detail!!!!
Another great piece!!!
Can't wait to see what is next!!!
Rich
-
Wow Stefan. Just awesome.
Ofcourse this is now on the front page. Wow.
-
This is sooo awesome!!! Right out of the game! I can hear the ROTJ Rancor roar in my head as I look at it. Galen is thinking "huh... lets figure out how to kill it and wonder what it was later" Expertly executed! Have you ever considered doing a full length comic? I can't wait to see more Pasha!!!
-
ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!!! :o
-
Most excellent.:)
-
Hey guys, thank you so much for your great feedback!! wow, very pushing and bringing up the batteries to work on the next one :D
and thanks Tamer for the fp honor and for calling this image a gift! yeah, I like it to see it that way, a gift to say my big THX to you all for all your wonderful support and inspiration :)
AFE, I know you would insist todo more Pasha LOL
thanks, yeah, Galen sure figures out a way to kill the beast. Hmm, doing a comic is not what I am looking for, to boring for me for you have to do the same characters over and over again. I just do my posters instead :)
-
Haha that's true, besides we can't get enough of your posters anyway!
-
I love it Stephan! btw there are plenty of RC experts here on the Yards you can ask if you need some help...yours truly included! ;)
-
hey lucasclones, thanks for your great feedback, good to see that I could send some good vibrations :)
help regarding the RC's is always welcome! I am not sure what I am looking for right now, some "cool" action pose, a frog POV or something, maybe even two RC's, one in the background blurred, POV like the watcher is RC number 3, standing close to his comrads.... but I don't really know yet.
-
Art another awe inspiring piece mate. As always the textures and colour really pop out at you to give that sence of depth and realism.
Ron
-
Awesome work Stefan! Really love the colors and tones on this one. On the RC's I love the ideas you have so far. If I may, I would love to se an action shot as you said 2 close together would be sweet. What do you think about them being back to back or something close to that. A caught in cross fire shot...
-
Hey Ron and Spry, thanks a lot for being with and liking this one :) yeah, I wanted to go into a colorful direction not only because to keep it comic-like but to stay true to the atmo of Felucia. And when I read all your feedback its seems that I got it right :)
Spry, your idea with those RC's fighting back to back is fantastic!! I really like it a lot. No direct back to back but in a slight angle, one looking more ore less towards camera or slightly left, the other at his back firing to the right, camera near the ground... something like that. But for I have no RC's figures to pose and take corresponding fotos I need for reference I first have to do some massive research...
-
Glad you are into my idea and you have described it better than I. I'll try to set up a photo op with my RC's.
-
Ich hatte schon lange auf ein "ArtdeWhill" Bild zum Thema TFU gehofft und endlich ist es da.
Das Bild ist großartig geworden Stefan. Ich bin wie immer sprachlos.
another masterpiece Stefan
-
Hey Spry, cool to hear that ! now i am looking forward to see your interpretations of things :) thanks!!!
Hi Fiala, thanks a lot for your great response! a lot of input on this one came from Lars, the guy who commissioned it. He took loads of photos and I took the coolest shot and just pushed it my direction ;)
-
well, told the story before for not getting paid at the end of a commission, but as I now stumbled over the image again I thought why not post it anyway?
It was a request for a type of work I seldom do: a character design based on just a loose description of how the character should look like. A lot of work to do, many many hours... but it sounded interesting... well I guess its also in parts my fault for getting ripped off, for I was far too trusty and now I will simply change my conditions I guess.
But enough of this, the image is still there, hopefully to be enjoeyed, as said the basic look was invented by the guy who commissioned the artwork, now lets meet "Darth Cailon" - worth 130 US $ ;)
-
Stefan, I hate to hear you got stiffed, but their loss is certainly our gain. On the front page.
-
Hey Shawn, thank you so much for the fp honor again!! its cool to see this pic there, I had a lot of fun doing it, it was a great challange and now others can enjoy it - thats just great :)
thanks, my friend!
-
Commissions can be a tough gig, most people are getting paid up font or they don't start. That is what I do unless it is a super good friend. As Tamer said his loss our gain!
-
thank you, Spry!
yeah, thats what I have learned and will practice now ;)
its always tricky when it comes to money. thats why I prefer commissions for fan mags and stuff just for the honor and glory :) on the other hand getting paid is not that bad and helps a bit to keep things running, like buying colors and canvas or figures ;)
BTW
some of you may remember my wild and bold "brushes unleashed" Walkers ? Don't know if I posted it here but I did on Facebook.
well, Ruark Dreher, the producer of Hughes the Force, requested a real big version of it to be printed out on canvas, so I did a large render approx. 60x80 cm or so @ 32 MB which you now can download for free at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8155677/Free_Prints/SW_FleeingWalkers_Poster.png (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8155677/Free_Prints/SW_FleeingWalkers_Poster.png)
Just in case you are interested ;)
-
Art yet again mate and time after time you make my jaw drop with how amazingly detailed your work is 10/10 .
Ron
-
Hey Ron, thanks so much for this highscore!
yeah, though I do no photorealistic work I like to add certain amounts of details to the obvious painting, it creates some tension and a unique Art deWhill-look ;)
Stefan
-
interested in a big rendition of a walker? Me? Nah!!!!
LOL. I can't wait to get that beauty loaded.
-
Stephan, one way to look at a commission gone bad is that you get to keep that work for yourself. Some of my most treasured customs I have kept only because their commissions went bad. Like you, I do things differently now.
-
@ Tamer: yeah, hope you enjoy this baby :)
BTW I printed it as poster myself for I want to display it at the SciFi-Days in Grünstadt, Gemany at my table. For its just a digital image I neve saw it that big and if I am allowed to say that: it looks most impressive, I was positivly surprised.
Another thing that goes on in my mind since I read your words "custom creation" on the fp regarding the Darth Tailon image... why not starting to do my own customs, I mean digital ones. I did similar things a long time ago and maybe its time to think about that part of creativity again...
@Clonehead:
you are right, buddy, I try to see it that way, besides I really learned a lot during the visualization and designing process of that figure. Its like Tamer said a "custom creation" and I am thinking about to starting digital customization again...
Some of my old stuff I mentioned, more that 20 years old:

Oh wow! These are amazing! That first image in the desert with the sci-fi surveyors... Reminds me of The Forbidden Planet! Love it! Amazing work my friend!
-
hey AFE, thanks a lot, buddy!
I would do some things different nowadays, but a must confess that I am still proud of these :)
-
Love the "old" stuff you posted. very apocalyptic sci-fi. I always went for that style.
Darth Cailon is pretty cool as well. I've been stood up on commissions as well. It was a head I did for someone and he never did contact me back. It's a bummer but it happens.
Darth Cailon reminds me of the old Reeses peanut butter cup commercials when the two people run into one another. One carrying chocolate the other peanut butter.

Hey you got Vader in my Fett!
Hey you got Fett in my Vader!
Wow this is GREAT!!!
-
hey, thanks a lot for your kind words, DS!!
yeah, I am still a sucker for apocalyptic stuff :) some things never change LOL
haha, Darth Cailon is pretty much like Vader on Fett and vice versa :) thats what the customer said: take Boba, make his armor black and throw some Vader on it :)
-
@ Tamer: yeah, hope you enjoy this baby :)

Just stunning, my friend. I am loving that older stuff. On the front page.
-
Hey Clonehead,
what a fantastic start into the day seeing my "vintage" stuff on the fp!! thank you so very much!
its amazing that those old ones still seem to have a great attraction, and you choose one of my personal faves for the fp, thats just great :)
infact I am thinking of doing some remakes of certain paintings, doing things a little different, incorporting new ideas... like the old masters have painted one theme in various alternate views... but thats just an idea so far.
-
I too am in love old stuff! Very inspiring and makes me want to bring some of them to life thru custom figures.
-

Hey Spy, thanks a lot for your very special compliment :)
of course that would be an ultimate push, seeing some of those characters as customs, a new interpretation... and then turning them again into a piece of artwork!! In fact a friend of mine once started such a project, but never finished anything...
I know thats just ideas, but I will post another - if not THE - favorite work of those days, if I only would remember in which folder I stored the painting away... silly brain.
-
UPDATE:
another old one, and besides the painting of the couple in the desert my favorite painting out of those long lost days around 1990.

Great stuff!!!
There not old, they are Classic!!!
Love the detail!!!!
Keep up the great work!!!
Rich
-
Hey Rich,
thanks a lot, my friend!! yeah, I am looking forward to revitalize my personal themes and space art, in fact I got that inspiration out of all the customs here, so I like to think about doing digital customs ;)
and I very much like describing this paintings as "Classics", you named it!! :)
-
Love the "old school" images; very evocative. Very Fantasy/Sci-fi novel/poster cover stuff from when I was a teenager. I would stare at images like this for hours, and get lost in the fantasy and imagine being there! Love it.
-
Hi DW, thanks a lot, mate! I am very happy to read your memories about old school poster stuff, thats what inspires me, too :) its cool to hear that my stuff transports this feelings, thank you :)
-
WOW! those images are stunning, they remind me of the Terran Trade Authority books that I used to love looking at when I was a kid! real classic scifi imagry.
You have a wonderful eye and an amazing skill. I am constantly in awe of your work my friend.
-
Hello Jules, you already made my day with your wonderful - and flattering - compliments :) thank you so much, my friend.
I am happy that those paintings are seen as "classic" scifi, for I still love this type of imagery and playing with the idea of focusing on that type of work again, doing some type of my own digital customizing ;)
in fact I knocked on the door of a small German publisher who is looking for scifi artists... though its a non-commercial type of self-publishing community it would be a new challange, new paths to walk on... but no decisions were made yet.
-
Stefan, I wish I had half your talent. I would be dangerous! lol
-
;D I bet you would ;)
thanks a lot, CS!
-
absolutely brilliant Master Art deWhill
-
Zeit...zu spät sein oder nicht - alles relativ :D
ganz herzlichen Dank, Christoph!
I am really happy, that my "classic" ones still have a great attraction, not only to me but on others, too! wow, makes me feel proud :)
-
dramatic sounding heading, but its not bad news.
I just want to tell you that I am going to put my Star Wars or fan art stuff on hold for a while. Just finishing off my current projects (like Pasha, the Rebel pilot), then turning my face towards new challenges.
I happend to meet a guy who is publishing different SciFi magazins, paperbacks and eBooks and he would like to have "some" covers and illustrations done by me. Though its all a non-commercial offer on a more or less self-publishing amateur base, where the profit is equalized by the production costs, his offer is very attracting to me. You know I like to showcase my works and to see them on a cover on a mag selled at a news stand would be awesome kick ;)
and the challange to focus again on my own ideas instead of fan arts is just too good to be rejected.
Funny that I just showcased my "classic" stuff here only days ago and now I am heading seriously into this direction again...
As said its not about money but honor and glory :D all I will get is a PDF page of the finished cover which I can use on my blogs and stuff - but hey, its about fun!
And if you have any vehicles or figures you think I should take as inspiration I would be happy to read your notes ;)
here is a link to the publishers website (German only): http://www.frx-online.de/ (http://www.frx-online.de/)
cheers
-
Art,
Good news about the offer, you deserve the attention. With regards to Star Wars stuff I totally understand, this is a hobby and I often find myself getting tired of working on the same subject...
Saying that, I do expect you to pop in from time to time and let us all know how you are getting on!
All the very best,
Jules
-
thank you very much for your understanding and the good wishes, Jules!
I will sure show up here on a more or less regulary base trying not to miss new customs :) its no good-bye, just a shift in themes and because of the contract to keep the publishers commissions private until they are officially announced a reduction in posts. On the other hand I should do a lot more speed paintings and conceptual stuff, so there will be work to display ;)
-
I had the great honor to be commissioned by the Star Wars Fanclub of Belgium to create their front and backcover for the current issue of their fan club magazine. It was a dream to work together with Tim Veekhoven, head of the club and chief editor, and because the front cover is now published online I am able to share it with you ;)
Now its going to be hot LOL

Thanks, Art

Amazing!!!!
Great job!!!! You can see the lava flow!!!!
Congrats on getting the cover!!!! You deserve all the praise you get!!!
Keep up the great work!!!!
Rich
-
Hey Rich, always an amazing motivator!! thanks a lot, my friend :)
-
Once again you have killed it! (in a good way!) Awesome job! Now there's a magazine I'd read!
-
bamm - dead ;D
thanks a lot, AFE, you are pushing me ;)
-
Der belgische Fanclub kann sich wirklich glücklich schätzen so einen talentierten Künstler als Unterstützung zu haben.
Das Cover sieht einfach nur genial aus. Du kannts wirklich stolz auf deine Arbeit sein.
you have done well Master AdW
-
Hello Christoph,
thanks heaps for your flattering compliments :) you know I greatly appreciated your support.
It was great to work on the covers and I sure will do another one for them in the future. My next cover is on its way, coming in July, a Slave I have done for the German SW Club...
but right now I am focusing on my non-SW/custom creations to be hopefully published as covers or inside the German XUN magazine.
-
Art, congrats on a terrific cover for the Belgium fan mag!
Mustafar never looked so good; if it weren't summer where I'm at, I'd have to consider vacationing there! ;D
I keep going back to your early pieces from, I believe you said the early 90's; just love the true sci-fi feel to those (aside from the SW connections I make when i look at them). Looking forward, as always, to seeing what you come up with next!
-
Thank you very much, JediMerc, for your overwhelming feedback, very uplifting and of course powering. Yeah, I am on the eve of new work and words like yours are the right ones to encourage me :)
-
Wow, on the front cover!
Oustanding Stefan. Congratulations!
-
Hello Shawn,
you give me a wonderful wrapp of the day with the fp honor and your amazing feedback, thank you from the bottom of my heart, my friend !!
Glad you find my lava scenery being hot :D
-
WOW on two counts, firstly for getting on the front cover of the fan club magazine, second for the superb piece of art!
-
then its a double "thank you" back to you, Jules :) You know I greatly appreciate your motivating support!! Thanks!!

Serving Wherever Needed
As mentioned I am now very proud doing stuff for two German publishing houses (XUN and Hary-Production) which are focused on everything "phantastic" and SciFi. I will do cover artworks as well as hight contrast black&white illustrations (along with many other artist of course) for usage inside the books. Though b&w is not at all my favorite medium I suddenly had an idea for a composition and gave it a try.
Maybe its no clever idea here, for the planets in the background are the only "space art" accessoires and by replacing them with a cloudy sky this scene could take place anywhere on earth as well. But thats the trick, keeping the soldier or space marine without details like a synonym for all who are serving - wherever needed. So its a space art piece as well as a tribute to our troops.
The artwork techniques are simple, too. Just three basic colors - black, white, dark grey - laid out quickly to shape the figure and landscape. Then by using custom brushes for the grass and texture of the distant mountains as well as a part of a photo of a desert camo in high contrast I added the desired details. After this I added the planets (actually its always the same planet, originally rendered in Bryce), some textures, the starfield, atmospheric noise and blurrs (using photoshop filters). And thats it ;-)
I don't know yet if this will be accepted by one of the pubslihers or when its going to be published, but anyway I had a lot of fun doing it and can imagine some follow ups done this way, like a conceptual artwork.
I will not post this image anywhere else on my blogs for I do not want to spread the word too far till its officially published, so please keep it here within the yards. thank you.

-
Love the flecktarn in the image. ;)
-
Wow, awesome shot. Reminds me of Space: Above and Beyond.
I was gonna put this on the fp, but since I read the post about keeping it here I will comply until you tell me its ok to broadcast it on the fp.
-
Hey Doc, thanks a lot for the
yeah, the flecktarn was a last minute idea, for the figure seemed too flat within the slightly detailed grasland and this type of camo is such a typical pattern telling everybody "this is military" ;-)
Hi Tamer, thank you very much!!
amazing that you mention this tv series, because just a few days ago it was a topic over at the german scifi modeling forum "phoxim"... I loved the series and listening to those memories was one part of the inspiration that went into this image.
I think the Germany based readers of the XUN magazine for which I am doing this images are most certainly not a member of the customizer community and not aware of the Yards ;-) also there is no aggreement to keep things exclusive (exceptfor some type of covers), although the artwork should not pop up on my blogs and galleries till published, but a yarder fp would be fine with me :-) again thanks a lot for this special honor!
Art
-
Cool deal, It will be on the fp tomorrow then.
-
Verdammt gute Arbeit Stefan.
fantastic work Stefan
-
Herzlichen Dank für dieses wunderbare Feedback, Christoph!!
Well i guess my pause from Star Wars will be a longer one, my current projects/Cover and illustration ideas will hold my attention at least till February next year and then we will see... its some kind of fresh air :)
hopefully you will share that Raketenjagdpanzer scale model with us, I am looking forward to seeing it!
have a nice weekend, my friend.
-
WOW!!!
That is very cool!!!
Love the color!!!
Just when I think I've seen it all you knock me out again!!!
Keep up the great work my friend!!!!
Rich
-
That is just awesome Stefan! Such a great homage to our troops and I love the dark tones.
-
thanks a lot, L.E. and Rich!!
glad to hear the b&w works for you!!
seems to be an creative weekend, but instead of finishing one of my paintings, I got another idea which had to be put into an quick and rough concept. The walking machine was develeoped just the moments I was drawing the lines... and I think this one will be a cool one to translate into b&w as well as into an impressionistic oil painting on canvas...
-
Wow, just got the Space Marine on the fp and now I see an awesome looking walker. I will get that up there sometime soon too Stefan. Very nice.
-
Amazing Stefan, just phenomenal :) I really like the walking machine and can't wait to see it on canvas!
-
thank you so much, Jenn and Shawn!!
your kind words put a big smile on my face, making me feel good. Yeah, I am really looking forward to working on this walker concept.
Unfortunaltelly my creativity came to an end, turned off by somekind of summer chill which hit me and knocked me out within a couple of hours :(
nothing worse of course, just damn annoying as every cold is...
-
Absolutely love the last image... a bit of a deviation from the usual, kind of graffiti style. you have captured the movement really well, so even though the image is fairly abstract you really get a sense of what's going on.
Amazing!
-
thanks a lot, Jules, your words mean a lot to me!!
-
So I see that walker and I start thinking about what pieces I need to MAKE it as a toy!!!
(that's a big compliment, by the way) ;D
-
Hey Doc, thats not only big, its a HUGE compliment!! thank you so very much.
of course it would be cool to see this thing as "real" custom.
-
My impression is that the walker (droid? manned? remains to be seen...?) looks to be about as tall as an AT-ST. Is that roughly how you are visualizing it in size?
-
My impression is that the walker (droid? manned? remains to be seen...?) looks to be about as tall as an AT-ST. Is that roughly how you are visualizing it in size?
Hey Doc, yes, you guessed the height correct. My first idea was to man the walker, so they would be strange looking walking tanks... making them droids or AI's would be too close to somekind of Terminator scenario or like the spider droids from Star Wars... on the other hand - why not? my image isn't clear about that and so its up to the viewer to let his imagination run wild.

You took the words right out of my mouth!!!
Thats what I love about this piece is that it's up the the viewer what they see!!!
Love it!!Keep up the great work!!!
Rich
-
 (we really need an emoticon for that!)
I wasn't sure if you had a specific artistic vision on that or not, so I wanted to check. Personally, I can see it either way, depending on mood and intent. So now I gotta start watching for pieces that match up...
-
The Walker Concept is now on the fp. I like it.
-
amazing! my concept hit the fp!!! thank you so very much, Tamer. This is a really big surprise and I greatly appreciate the honoring of a simple sketch.
Your feedback shows me that the idea and scene works and encourages me to carry on.
thanks! you made my day :)
-
I have no other word than amazing woooooooooa really good walker
-
Hey, thanks a lot Mandalore_1992!! glad you like it :)
-
Very cool walker Art! I love the loose style of this scetch!
-
thanks a lot, L.E., much appreciated :)
I am very happy that you like the loose and a bit abstract style, its my way to scribble.
-
I love how loose that is! It's real talent when you can get tight details or really loose almost graffiti-like gestures. Love the movement and the fluidity in this one. I love seeing classic art technique brought to pulp culture imagery. Bravo!
-
AFE, you nailed it down, for thats what I am trying to do: marry classic art techniques with pulp culture, scifi themes and so on!!!
great to see you support this idea, thank you very much!!
-
nice looking walker Stefan
your pictures are always an eye-catcher my friend
PS. habe heute meinen Jaguar Panzer vollendet.
-
thanks a lot, Christoph! always appreciate your feedback :)
so I hope to see some picturs of that tank soon ;)

though I am working mainly on my Space/SciFi art nowadays there are still some Star Wars pieces to be done ;-)
I showed a teaser of this one a long time ago, but now she is ready for lift-off: Pasha, Rebel Pilot!
Done after reference photos provided by ActionFigEmpire and a Revel X-Wing scale model kit I did this artwork as a tribute to the Yards!! To say thank you for this fantastic and creative place I am proud to be a part of.
Thank you to you, my fellow yarders.
Enough words, enjoy the pic :)

Sorry Art, I'm not seeing the image!
ups, I am sorry, type mismatch within the image URl. I have corrected it now!
-
WOW!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!
She can fly me anywhere!!!
Great work as always!!! I love the attention you give to the littlest detail, from her hair to the helmet, to the uniform!!!
Great stuff!!!
Keep up the great work!!!!
Can't wait to see whats next!!!
Rich
-
:D
thanks a lot, Rich, you know how to do uplifting comments!!
working on a new black&white SciFi piece, also finished my entry to an cover art contest... so I am pretty busy ;-)

fantastic Art! ....errrrr Art :)
-
fantastic Art! ....errrrr Art :)
:D
thanks a lot, Wraithnine!!
-
Art, I think I'm in love! She's stunning, for sure. Another magnificent piece, my friend.
-
Wow, I was out for a couple days and am getting back into things and found this.
Wow Stefan, that is rocking! If she isn't on the fp already she will be soon.
-
Hey Phatty, thank you very much for your special compliment! So you will join the Rebellion to meet her there in the fleet? And I now know that you like the hairstyle of the 70's :D
Its always something special to show up on the fp, Tamer, thanks a lot for giving Pasha this wonderful honor :)
thank you all so much, as always you keep me going!
-
woooa she is really beautiful pilot it's a shame to be a rebel i hate to take her down on my TIE interceptor hahahahahahahahaha haha ;D ;D ;D ;D
but i love to tell her fly me to the moon excelente work Stefan i very like this one
-
so you are still a romantic, imperial or not ;-)
its great to hear that you like this image, I really put a lot of efford into it and am quite proud how it turned out :)
Thanks a lot, my friend!
-
Stefan, she is a beautiful pilot with a bit of a rough edge. I love it! Very nice work and I love the colors and texture found within your work!
-
Haha you guys are too much! Hate to break it to you, but she doesn't go in for fly boys. If you remember, she's more partial to fly girls, but it'd be fun to see you guys fall all over yourselves to try and impress her. "I single handedly took down a Star Destroyer" "I used to be a professional podracer" Not to mention I killed her off in the story. But she's definitely a firecracker, and a hot shot in the cockpit. Took done a ton of squints before she went.
-
Thanks a lot for your insights, L.E., I am very flattered about how detailed you look into my works and your time you spent with it. So I greatly appreciate your feedback!!
AFE, now you have ruined all their wonderful thoughts LOL
-
Art, that picture is fantastic! I cannot see whether it is a still life or a composite over an image, either way the results are perfect. It's like a recruiting poster for the Rebel Alliance!
You really are in a league of your own, bringing a touch of pure class to this forum.
-
I like the idea of a recruiting poster a lot, HB, thank you very much for sharing your insights and your friendly words!!
technically speaking every part of this image is painted, but I used photo layers underneath the airbrush layers which I could blend in to check my results.
-
Awesome work on the recruitment poster! I'd fly with her anytime! ;)
-
;D
thanks a lot, JM!!
-
WOW Stefan
another wonderful picture and a great background image for my rebel collection
-
Hi Christoph, thanks a lot for your great and honoring compliment, my friend! its great to hear that you like this one that much :)
-
some of you may know this one already, for I posted it over at my facebook page... seems like I am kind of confused in remembering which image I did load up on which forum/blog/page... anyway here is another Cover Artwork for the Official German Star Wars Fan Club, Jangos Slave One: based on a Hasbro model, but with some additions according to the Revell model kit of the Slave, some screenshots and my own imagination... Lucasfilm approval by Steve Sansweet (though he isn't head of the fan relations at LFL, he still is in charge of those approvals and stuff the chief editor of the fanclub told me).
Who cares - approval is approval LOL
BTW its an original oil painting which I reworked in photoshop to achive certain effects and correct stupid errors ;-)
Enjoy!
-
Art, you are now showing off aren't you? you know that there isn't anyone else who produces work anywhere near as amazing as this and you just want to make us other artists feel bad about ourselves.... ;)
(Just kidding)
I love that image, and the fact that it is a painting makes it all the more amazing...a wonderful piece of Pop Art that would be right at home in the Tate Modern!!!
You are a fantastic artist, and I absolutely love your style!
-
yeah, down on your knees, everyone! LOL
You know everyones art is something special and I as all others are just doing it my way. Thats BTW how I called my blog in German "auf meine ART" means "doing Art my way", playing around with the word ART :)
Thank you so much for your time and for finding this wonderful words, Jules. Its very flattering to read them and I very much like your description and calling it pop art. I am very comfortable with it and I think it fits so well. Thank you so much for all your encouragement and support, my friend!
Art
-
Wow Art this looks great. What an accomplishment knowing that this was approved by LFL.
On the front page with the Tamer Seal of Approval.
-
Wow that is so cool Art!
-
Und die nächste atemberaubende Arbeit.
Das Schiff meines Lieblings Kopfgeldjägers bbfet hat noch nie besser ausgesehen.
Wie immer ziehe ich meinen Hut vor ihnen Sir :D
-Christoph
-
thank you so much, guys!!
you know how to motivate me :)
and a Tamer Seal of Approval sure don't stand behind a LFL one :) thanks a lot for the fp feature, as always this means a lot to me!
Art
-
EL Thumbs Up my friend!
-
Sorry I have not had much time here this last week so just catching up to this. Great work and wow, what an honor that is indeed!
-
thanks a lot, L.E., for your very kind words and spending your time!
-
Hi all,
for issue no.57 of the Teekay-421 magazine of the Belgium SW fan club is now published I am funally allowed to show my backcover artwork of the last issue no.56 titled "Departure from Mustafar". Though this motif would make more sense as landscape format I had to design it as portrait format obviously because of the magazine format ;-)
And yeah, the planets where a lot of fun to do and I am pretty proud on how they turned out.
A big thank you goes to FialaFernbrugg who got me some excellent shots of his Revell Magna Guard fighter as reference which I then turned into a Xanadu Blood. Again thanks a lot for your help, my friend!
Enjoy!

Art
-
wow art, that's pretty amazing. I really like the glow of the exhaust ports.
-
-
Incredible art man!! :o :o
-
thanks a lot, guys, as always your feedback means a lot to me :)
-
WOW!!!
Just when I thought I've seen your best you take it to another level!!!
Amazing work as always!!!! Keep up the great work!!!
Love seeing your work!!!!
Rich
-
Hey Rich,
thank you so very much for your kind words, my friend!
Well I guess my best work is still to come, painting after painting, hopefully getting better with every stroke ;-)
thanks for being with me.
-
Yes, while I agree that this image is indeed on another level, you seem to have so many facets to your craft and you have a style all your own. I've seen such amazing work being posted on your thread, and this is just another example of your amazing talents.
Superb! Just superb!
-
Jules, you found such wonderful words, so warm and flattering, I don't know what to answer. You are greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much!
-
Art, forgive me for being tardy to the party but man am I glad I made it! This piece of art is just stunning! This is such a great piece! Love the subject matter, style and color! You my friend are in a liegue all your own, thanks so much for sharing.
-
You are never too late, my friend, and you are honoring me with your comment! Thank you very much, its great to see you enjoying this one, having so much fun like I had creating it :)
-
Very cool picture! ;D Amazing Art from an Amazing Artist ;)
-
glad you like it :)
thanks a lot, my friend!!
-
this is a fantastic piece of artwork you should feel justifiably proud mate.
-
oh be sure I am, W9! I like this one a lot - though I guess the upcoming pic will be even more exciting ;D
Thanks a lot!!
-
Wow Stefan, congratulations again!
On the front page as is my opinion on this new work of art.
-
congrats art ! well deserved breathtaking as always
-
thanks a lot, Tamer and Sithhappens!!
glad you are with me and to be on the fp again is as exciting as for the first time. Thanks for this special feeling :)
-
Departure from Mustafar is extremely super awesome!
-
WOW, KRI, your compliment blew me away :) thanks a lot!! great that it had that impact on you.
-
the artwork is really amazing
-
what incredible work you do my friend it's amazing great just great ;D ;D ;D
-
thanks a lot, sithtrooper66 and Mandalore_1992, glad you like it!! :)
-
Inspired by a gorgeous custom action figure of Luke Sprywalker - and for I just love those post-apo scenery - I put my own twist on this subject and painted it in a very expressive way because I think this style just fits perfect, a mix between realism and comic-book-style. Needless to say that is was great fun to do :)
Hope you like it.

-
Wow, awesome Stefan.
On the front page as well as our FB page.
-
wooooa totally awesome :o :o :o I love the background and the colors that you used on the background, one can really sense that you're in a post apo era great work Stefan ;D ;D
-
Stefan, I am honored. The background sets the mood perfectly! Then the eyes and the rebreater tubes really attract your attention. The way you have heighlighted those 2 areas relly grabs me. I love everything else but the combinations of color and the "face" of the subject really spell out doom and gloom. So well done my friend! and now I have a new desk top image! Thanks so much for sharing.
-
WOW! the detailing in the image and the brushwork are wonderful! again, your use of colour has produced a really striking image.
I particularly like the background work and the brushwork on the boots, very clever...very clever indeed!
-
Thats awesome,really cool work!
-
Hello Stefan, im slowlly working my way through the forum pages seeing members great works displayed, but i must say that your works stand out from the rest, your talent is extraordinary and a pleasure to view. I especially like your brush painted versions. Very impressive work.
-
thanks a lot for all your compliments, my friends!! Reading your kind words is a very motivating start into the day :) Very motivating to start a new painting ;-)
I am glad you all agree with my color choice on this one and that you can "feel" the desolate enviroment.
Shawn, thank you very much for another fp feature!
Oscar, its great to hear that you enjoy my works that much and especially like the "analog" ones, painted with "real" brushes. This still is my top favorit painting technique and I am trying hard to melt my fine art style with my love to scifi and fantasy themes.
Anyway, you are way too kind, my friend ;-) thanks a lot for supporting me!
-
So lets get back to something Star Wars ;-)
Now that its published I am allowed to show my version of the young Captain Tarkin to you! I think its one of my best digital works to date and I put a lot of efford into it. I even explored the possibillities of using "digital noise" as skin texture... and was very pleased with the results. The chief editor of the German SW fan club liked the image so much that he instantly turned it into the cover of the new club magazine and needless to say that I am very proud :)
But enough talking, just enjoy the pic - at least I hope you do :D
Art
-
WOW!! Again!!!
I love the work you did with Luke Sprywalker's custom!!!
Very cool!!! Very Spooky!!! I mean that in a good way!!!
And that Tarkin Cover is AMAZING!!!!! The detail, the shadows are perfect!!!!
I don't know what else to say, I can't put in words how amizing I think you work is!!!
Please keep up the great work, I'm always looking foward to you next work of art!!!
Rich

Amazing Stefan! You have really captured his youngeer look and the intense look on his face is perfect. You are truely a master of your craft! Thanks for sharing!
-
Wow that is awesome Stefan! Gonna have to get this on the front page.
The eyes are just piercing! Wow this looks good.
-
Awesome as always!!! Love this one. Really captured the brooding evil genius here!
-
Stefan you rule!!! I love everything you do.
-
Just awesome. This Tarkin to me seems like a nice merger of the live and animated versions of him. I really love the drawing of LE figure. You have brought him to life in a new way. Makes me want to do a few drawings of figures this way.
-
:o Son of a Gun!!! Tarkin looks like he could take on anything with that stare.
-
Whooa amazing tarkin!
-
WOW, boys, too much honor :D thank you so much for all your wonderful words, really appreciated!!
yeah, I have to admit that I am kind of proud of this one and super happy on how it turned out. I indeed wanted to merge the TCW Tarkin with Peter Cushings appearance and those eyes are freaking deadly... it was hard work, lots of hours but worth every pain I think :) And now I am really glad you like it that much just as I do.
-
Tarkin looks great! Excellent work !
-
thanks a lot, Psyclone!!
-
you are the master of what you do art that is for sure always love everything you do cant wait for the next
-
Love the Tarkin cover, Art! Soft while bold at the same time.
-
guys, you light up my day :) thank you so very much for your kind words and support!!
Art
-
another fantastic cover Stefan
excellent work
Das "Tarkin" cover ist wieder sehr gut gelungen. Ich dachte mir schon fast, dass er seinen strengen Blick bereits in jungen Jahren hatte.
-
ganz herzlichen Dank, Christoph :)
glad you like my version of Tarkin - and yeah, thought the same about his piercing look as you do: he even had in his younger years ;-)
-
Art, that was a great Tarkin you did! Sorry it took me so long to chime in on that, but he looked great for sure.
-
Hey Phatty, thank you very much!!
and no worries: there is a lot of mind-blowing stuff to look at here at the yards, its a very active community and I can hardly catch up, too ;-)
-
Just finished this brandnew concept sketch and thought about sharing it with you ;-)
Got stuck with my original idea and fooled around with all kind of ideas and then suddenly this thing came into my mind...
Have a great sunday,
Art

Looks like a Mad Maxesque image there! Modern roads, leading to a city built in the future. Excellent colors. If I may critique slightly, it does seem to have a marked line between the road and desert and foreground, and the cityscape in the background. I'm not sure if that's intentional, but it makes it look separated. Still, very brilliant!
-
I'm sure that it's intentional, the more blurred part of the desert beyond the hill just helps to convey distance. I like it. When I was a kid, there was a Micronauts playset called MegaCity, if not 2 or three different ones.
-
Hey guys, thanks a lot for your time and your thoughtful words!
Glad you like my little scifi city idea - the line you mentioned, Phatty, is indeed intentional. It should help to suggest a bumpy road as well as depth of field. But its all very rough and not well balanced yet.
-
This reminds me of a futuristic ROUTE 66, with Luke and his land speeder on a sunday drive.
-
cool I live this Route 66 idea - BTW a ride I would love to do in some future times of my life :D
and some type of hovering speeder would make a great addition to the image I guess.
thanks a lot for your remark, M4!
-
pshhhhhhhhhhht OUCH!......that is a sweltering hot piece of artwork my friend!!!
I love the way you have created depth in the image, it's a remake of a classic that you've made your own...You have really created a masterpiece.
Now I need to wash my eyes out with cold water and throw my monitor into a cold vat of ice, so please excuse me!
-
Art, I love it. Also love the loose expresionist style. The landscape itself is very cool and road warrior-ish. Thanks for sharing!
-
wowowow easy guys, this is just a quick sketch, a doodle to explore my ideas of composition and colors :D
but I guess thats not the point as long as an image has an visual impact and evokes mood & feelings one can react to. Thats pretty cool.
Thank you so very much!!
-
My comments about this are on the front page.
I like the mirage effect. It makes me think there is some kind of energy barrier or force field protecting the city keeping all the nasties out.
-
whooho, thats a super cool idea: a energy force field around the city, indicated by the mirage/blurrs.... I like this :)
and to see this baby on the fp is amazing, thanks again, Tamer!!
you all brighten my day :)
-
wieder ein sehr gelungenes Bild Stefan
der verschwommene "Hitzeeffekt" gefällt mir sehr gut
another masterpiece Sefan

thanks a lot, Christoph!! :)

great news:
the head of the German SW fan club talked to me about new magazine covers and I showed him some of my paintings including "Sandy the female Sandtrooper. Though he prefers to use unknown and unpublished material he was so excited about Sandy and another one titled Facing the Rancor that he opted to go for them!! Thats so pretty cool. Because they dont fit into the cover format I have to rework them, also correcting shapes and areas I am meanwhile not satisfied with. Also doing a complete new background for Sandy as alternate version so he will have some options to choose from. I am looking forward which version will end up on the cover in January and most of all hoping that LFL will approve it.
So this is the very first custom figure ever which will make it hopefully onto a official magazine cover. Thats very exciting.
Okay I know about an Jedi E.T... for the E.T.s can be seen at the senate someone painted an Jedi E.T. - but that doesn't count :D
Cheers
Art
-
That is great news Stefan. I can't wait to see what you submit.
-
That is great news! Congrats Stefan! I know you new ideas for the background will blow us away!
-
thanks, guys!
just wondering if I should put up a "private" web album somewhere so I can share such somewhat of classified images to those yarders who are interested and wants to see them before the official release ...
-
had some relaxing minutes and did this quick study and interpretation of Luke Sprywalkers super fantastic custom figure named Jez. Maybe a secnd with her cape on, standing on some big dunes, will follow. All done just to keep the idea fresh of using her in some upcoming paintings ;-)
Maybe combined with this idea ...

another conept sketch I did is this one of a Desert Elve, some kind of weired mix of an Elve, a Jedi and some arabian clothes :D
I am sorry for only showing concept stuff these days but I am very busy with my cover commissions which of course can't be showcased so far. Anyway I am on creative waves and fool around with all those ideas ...
-
Oh wow Stefan! Both of these are awesome but I am sure you know Jez is quite special to me. So well done and I really like the hair and the face on her. The Desert Elve is really cool, looks like a great SW x LOTR mash up and I love the simplistic clothing and gear you gave him. These are very interesting studies that are done so well! Thanks for sharing!
-
Thanks a lot for your kind feedback, L.E. :)
-
Great work yet again!!!
I love the detail and the color!!!
And a great face on both of them they look so real like I might have passed them on the street!!
Very Cool!!!
Keep up the great work!!!
Can't wait to see the next ones!!!
Rich
-
thanks so much, Rich! always appreciate your feedback, very pushing and encouraging.
You are an amazing supporter and friend.
Thanks!
Stefan
-
Nice work on those, Art! For some reason, I get an optical illusion effect as I look at the jezara pic. That land mass " I am assuming that it is a butte and not a cloud" in the background on the right appears to be moving slightly. I dont know what is causing it, possibly the highlighted outline around her body.
love the colors
-
thanks a lot, Clonehead!!
hmmm, maybe you banged your head during a wild Halloween party? >:D ;D ;D
ha, I starred some minutes at it and could not encounter this effect, crazy thing, but all the surrounding lines and colors can cause it. Anyway, you are right, its a some sort of butte, infact the whole background is just a placeholder, something to fill the white around her. I always love to show my figures with some surrounding.
Art
-
After the chief editor decided to use the original layout of my "Sandy" artwork (the one with the barb wire) I am now allowed to show my alternate - and now unused - version of her for your pleasure - the first place to post her ;-)
I mentioned all that stuff in an earlier post and now its time to let the image speak ;-)
Sorry for all the mystery mongering but thats how they play the game in the publishing business.
Cheers, Art

Whoa - very much has the sweaty, "helmet-head" curly hair. Great work!
-
Always nice to see Ms. Sandy again :) Love the new background!
-
Oh yea, great to see her again with the new background! Most excelent work Stefan!
-
surprised I haven't commented on it before.i've been busy with work, and my custom figures, but i'll be sure to keep checking back here for this great artwork, very insperational for cutom ideas and story's.thanx.
-
Wonderful images man!
-
hey guys, thanks a lot for your overwhelming feedback, glad to see that you a still in love with her ;D
Doc, thats exactly what I had in mind when I painted her curly hair: besides that 50s pinup-look/expression her hairs simply has to lool sweaty because of the heat and helmet.
dont worry, JediMindtrix, here are a lot of awesome threads to follow, one cannot notice them all at first. I am glad to give you some inspirations, like I get mine out of all the great customs here. BTW Sandy is an original idea by ActionFigEmpire :)
-
Awesome work Stefan. On the front page my friend.
-
great honor for Sandy being a Yarder frontpage girl :) thanks a lot, Tamer!!
-
Art, Art, Art, all I can say is EXCEPTIONAL WORK! I really love your style and attention to detail!
-
Hey VA, thanks so much for your overwhelming comment!! very uplifting and encouraging, you know all that detail stuff sometimes drives me crazy, but its the way I have to do my stuff :)
-
Got the news today that my submission for the XUN cover art competition is a WINNER!!!! This is so freaking awesome it kicks me on cloud no. 10. YOU made it happen, all my friends and fans who voted for me! You all rock and I am deeply grateful to experience such amazing support.

AWESOME!!! Many congratulations - that is a great-looking vehicle! (and yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to start on building one...)
-
thanks a lot, Doc!!
of course it would be awesome to see this truck coming to life, I very much hope this could be done. Man, this would be great.
-
Cool deal, look for this on our front page soon Stefan. And congratulations!
-
Congrats Art, they really know exceptional artwork when they see it!
-
thanks a lot, Tamer, for both your compliments and the fp :)
Hey VA, you are too kind, sir! thank you!!
-
Art, I can't think of anyone who deserves the recognition more, you are wonderfully creative and have such a positive attitude to your work and everyone around you. You add so much class to this forum and it is an absolute honour that you share your work and thoughts with us.
-
Jules, thanks a lot for your wonderful compliment, I greatly appreciate your words. It is me who is feeling honoured and proud to be part of this forum and to be surrounded by all you wonderful inspiring and helpful people, supporting each other, bringing even more fun to our hobbies. Taking care. This place is something special.
-
Sorry it took me so long to get it on the front page, but once again congratulations Stefan.
-
oh, no worries my friend, life - especially real life - has its own rhythm and stressful moments, no need to hurry with the hobby. Once again thank you so much for your ongoing support!!
-
Haven't stopped by in awhile and wanted to say congrats on having your work selected for the cover! Very slick: reminds me of the Sentinel Prime character from the most recent TF movie.
As always, awesome work!
-
thank a lot, JM!!
-
Hey Guys,
guess this is my last update before Christmas and my holidays so at first I want to say a merry christmas to you all, stay safe and enjoy your families and beloved ones, all the people who mean something to you!
So now I want you to introduce you to my bad boy Cad Bane, originally a oil painting on canvas done in my very personal expressive simplifying and outlining style - after an action figure used for reference, slightly enhanced to fit the format of the Official German Star Wars fan club magazine for Bady Cane was on the back cover of magazine issue no. 61, again approved by Steve Sansweet :)
Thanks for your time!

Fantastic!!!!. I love your brushed paintings. This is very nicelly done. I have a request from you, i would love to see an oil painted Darth Vader done by you. Awesome work.
-
thanks a lot!! glad you like my brushed stuff and who knows whats coming up next year, Vader in oil sounds cool.

BTW currently I am offering a free poster size image download till Dec 24th of my Lady Ice artwork (remember the great custom figure by Jediwolf) - just click at http://www.divshare.com/download/16415927-de6 (http://www.divshare.com/download/16415927-de6)

Hey guys,
today I noticed that the facebook group "World Wide Star Wars Fan Groups Flag of Friendship" started promoting their first Limited Editon Cards. This is one of seven images I did for Richard Walker and his FOF. Using an earth map was a to do according to their existing FOF map full of fan group patches.

Preview of card no. three, its my personal fave I have to say and it was the first painting I did for this trading card series, which will be available soon via the Flag of Friendship group.
See ya around the web :)
More updates on my blogs, deviantart or facebook page.

Wow Stefan, looks like I am behind here too. Ok, got Mace on the fp. Look for Ti soon. Very nice.
-
I am envious of the harem you must possess. As I'm sure you've heard endlessly, outstanding talent. You are truly gifted.
-
Mace windu looks amazing ! ;D great job!
-
Dang nice Windu and Ti!
-
hey guys, thanks a millon for your uplifting feedback, glad you like my Jedi! You know seeing you enjoying the stuff I enjoy myself is a wonderful thing :)
Shawn, as always the fp is much appreciated, thank you so very much.

These are fabulous! As always you're pushing the envelope!
-
thanks a lot, AFE!
-
Hey guys, this is a preview of card number four of my Limited Edition “Flag of Friendship” Card set.
And this one - as the writing on the cards says - is powered by Action Figure Empire, for he let me use photos of his Bossk action figure for reference :) Yeah, action figures are art :D
Cheers

-
Wicked cool Bossk along with the rest of your art!
-
You've captured a 1:1 likeness of the nasty Trando hunter! Glad I could help! As you know you're always more than welcome to use my photos and customs :)
-
thanks a lot, RebelAce and AFE, for your pushing response!!
Hey AFE, thanks again for your great offer, you know you have a lot of figures I am interessted in, so who knows on which one I'll put my brushes on :)
Cheers
-
Great looking Bossk Stefan!
-
glad you like it, L.E., thanks!! :)
-
Wow, I love this new style. Bossk is on the front page.
-
yeah, like this style, too, but like to soften the outlining like I did with the TEX MANDO, always trying something new, pushing :)
as always the fp is a great honor, thanks so much, Tamer!
-
Stefan, my pleasure. I haven't seen anything you have created that I didn't like. Keep em coming and I will keep em hot on the front page.
-
Hello my fellow shipyarders,
you already know about my collectors card set done for the Flag of Friendship Star Wars Group - which BTW is a derivate of the Norwich SW Club, UK - and this is a preview of card no. six: Emperor Palpatine himself! You will join him or die :D
Thanks for looking.
Cheers, Art

That looks so evil! Well done Stefan!
-
thank you, L.E. !
-
Wow Stefan. I do like your current project. Back on the front page.
-
thank you, Tamer :)
one more card to come, one of my personal faves. I also can grab all links for each image then and put them up at once.
Glad you enjoy them :)
-
so here is the last of all seven "Star Wars Flag of Friendship" cards, another fave of mine and a so called bonus card, for Richard Walker - chairman of the FOF - ordered six cards only and named the characters. I also wanted to do Juno so we added her as lucky number 7.
hope you like her :D

-
this collection is fabulous, art!
-
Absolutely gorgeous as always!
-
thanks a lot for your great feedback, my friends! you know applause is feeding the artist ;D and of course its always a push to work harder on the next project. I will.
-
Hey guys,
this one actually started life as a simple traditional "gray day" winter landscape painting expressionism style, but I was not satisfied with it. Just moments before I overpainted it I suddenly had this idea... seeing those soldiers marching - as some type of mix of post-apo and WW2. I took a photograph of my painting, transfered it into Photoshop and did this quick sketch.
Not sure about the soldiers and their final outfit, but that will be the fun part when doing the final artwork. Suggestions welcome :)
Hope you like it,
Art

-
Oh yeah, I like it. On the front page.
-
glad you do :) thanks a lot, Tamer!
-
Looking awesome already Stefan! What I would love to see is something like a World War Robot in there behind them. If you have not heard of them just google it and also my friend Ratfink has made some in 3 3/4 scale. You can find him on facebook or just google him. Good luck!
-
Thanks a lot, L.E.!!
Yeah, a WW2 robot is something I also want to do, if not in this one that in a follow up image! Thanks for metioning Ratfink, I am already befriended with him on fb and I love his work, but I didn't talked to him about using his figures for my works yet.
-
An intense image Art! The red eyes really draw you into the image making it very powerful. I also love your abstract style.
Just amazing talent!
-
thanks so much, Jules, your words are greatly appreciated, meaning a lot to me :)
-
Since I first saw his work on facebook I am a huge fan of Ratfink Customs, especially love his steampunk and Old War Robots. So while I was in relaxing mood I put my hands on one of his figures and painted my version of her. Thanks to Ratfink for letting me do so :)
Enjoy!
Cheers, Art
-
Beautiful Art! Its now on the front page.
-
a frontpage feature is always an exciting experience, thanks a lot Tamer. I happily take your compliment and pass it over to Ratfink for its his design that brings in the cool stuff here :)
-
Oh wow, she looks fantastic!!
Love the glowing effect on her wrist units! :)
-
thanks a lot, botwt! yeah, those tiny monitors or lights were a spontaneous idea while painting those wrist units. You know I am a big fan of such little operarting suit lights here and there :D
glad you like 'em, too!
-
Very nice tribute for Rat Finks custom! Love it Stefan!
-
thanks a lot, L.E.!
Ratfink is an awesome and nice guy. He freaked out when he saw it :) Its always a good vibration to get these reactions of the original creators and not a bad "OMG how could you do this to my design..." :D
-
Stefan, you are getting really clever with your effects, I love the gold on the shin pads, God only knows how you got the technique. Is the face a real one with brush strokes added on, as it she looks so real, I love her arrogant smile.
Awesome as always!
-
thanks a lot for your kind compliments, Jules :)
I simply picked the gold color from a photograph and used varied shades of it, so nothing special about it. Her face indeed started out as a real one, but I only used it as some sort of guideline and heavily overpainted it: I gave her new eyes, a new skin tone and make up, sculpted new cheeks and added the light fx. But because her wonderful expression is still the same and notable makes her look so real I guess.
-
I've never tried digital painting before and your technical explanation makes me even more in awe of your work!
-
oh you definitelly should try it out, its big fun and also enhances the possibilities of photomanipulations/composites.
-
so here is an UPDATE on "Lady Grenadier". Ratfink went crazy when he first saw it :D and I must confess that I am very pleased myself on how it turnded out. It now looks like some Dieselpunk stuff. hope you agree and watch out: she's as fast as lightning on the trigger ;-)
as always thanks a lot for your time and comments.

-
Wow Stefan. I liked the old version, but she sure does look very nice to these old eyes. On the front page.
-
WOW!!! Just too cool! :)
-
Holt crap! That background makes this EPIC! Really well done Stefan!
-
thank you very much, guys! as alwaysyour feedback means a lot to me - as well as a fp feature, really thrilling, thanks Tamer :)
if its allowed to say I am really proud about how this image turned out and I had so much fun doin it. In fact I allready asked Ratfink for permission to use some more of his steampunk figures and searching for more customs of this genre or other post-apo stuff. I also submitted Lady Grenadier to some steampunk groups on deviantart and got really nice replies. Also learned alot about steampunk, all the cosplayers and the subgenres... now I know that there is Dieselpunk, Teslapunk, Atomicpunk, Blitzpunk, ... very interesting.
-
Hi guys,
no Star Wars stuff in the pipe for I have some scifi cover artworks on my to-do-list. in addition I am on some kind of retro trip, watching and old German scifi TV series of 1965, 2001 and 2010 and stuff and reading the stories of the author who commissioned me, which are also written in that kind of mood... getting inspired to fool with simple shaped ships and stations and today I came along with this concept painting. No exciting POV or designs, just a simple scenery, but simple things can have a great impact on us, too I think :)
Hope you like it anyway. Just gimme your feedback, please. Thanks!
-
Stefan, this looks awesome. I bet you will be able to see it on our fp soon.
-
Hey Shawn, thanks so much my friend, your ongoing support really is amazing! lets toast to that :)
-
Definitely Stefan. You are on the list of people I hope to be able to meet one day.
-
oh, you are on my list, too, thats for sure :)
-
Stefan, I love it! Nice job on this simplistic suggestive style that give the effect of a haze that surrounds this planet. I love the work I see on the net of the 2 mobile suits, Ron Hembling has made a few incredible versions of them. Is that a space station in the distance of a vehicle that is shining some light on this crazy planet? Either way I dig it. Last but not least, retro sci fi trips are the best! Thanks for sharing my friend.

thank YOU so much for your thoughtful words, my friend! your feedback really means a lot to me and its greatly appreciated. Glad to see that you are a Retro-lover like me :) For I love to work with light effects and stuff I added a lot of lights to the space station, illuminating the haze and making the simply shapes more interesting to look at. The two space suits are just doodles so far and if I ever turn this sketch into a final painting I first have to design them proberly... always looking for inspirations.

ART!!!!
I could leave this post blank as I am speechless....
Can I say that the last sci-fi painting you have posted is one of my favorite of all your pieces. It reminds me of my first sci-fi book "Terran Trade Authority - Spacecraft 2000 - 2100ad" and all of the wonderful artwork contained within.
You have captured that sense of wonder by using a low camera angle looking up at the stars, the explorers in the foreground treading on ground untouched by humans and station/base high above shows such confidence in it's command of space.... the subject is almost operatic.
You area a classic sci-fi artist and once again you are bringing a brush stroke of pure class to this forum.
Jules
-
Jules, now its me who is speechless, for how can I find words grateful enough to thank you for your wonderful feedback and respect! I am really touched, your reflection of the image is like poetry - what else can an artist hope for than to evoke feelings and ideas that go with his own.
Again thank you so very much, my friend!
Stefan

Gorgeous News: this is a sneak preview of my centerfold poster which will be published in issue #66 of the Offical German Star Wars magazine on the stands on July 4th!! MY biggest thank you to Robert Eiba, head of the OSWFC, for choosing my artwork and getting it approved by LFL!
Savage was painted after reference shots of a incredible custom action figure built by our Shipyarder comrade Dayton Allen aka Sith-fire30. Thanks so much for this support, Dayton!

What a great tribute to Dayton, thought I recongized it.
And congratulations. I have got to take this to the fp.

thanks a lot, Tamer!
and indeed it is. I guess its wonderful when different kind of talents come together, bringing their creative worlds together. So my success here and the LFL seal goes also out to Dayton. BTW by the time the exclusive rights of publishing dies I will post an image without watermark. And I hope to do similar projects in the future, the club is still looking for special images w/ clever posing and angles of TCW characters or TOR or Legacy ;-)
-
My very first digital action figure composite done around 2008/2009 on my way back into the fandom which I had left in the mid 90's. So much had happend since then and I am happy that I am doing my scifi and fantasy stuff again like I did in my youth. Hope you enjoy my works and thank you all for letting my be a part of your world :)

“Obi-Wan Kenobi…Obi-Wan? Now thats a name I haven’t heard in a long time…a long time.”
-
Like it? I love it! Great looking image Stefan!
-
thanks a lot, my friend, lovely to hear :)
-
You can read my comments on the front page. Stefan I love seeing you take customs here and turn them into even better works of art for it. Like Spry's Norris Tretch and your latest work with Dayton's Savage. Just brilliant imagery.
-
Shawn, thanks so very much for the fp as well as for your wonderful comment, my friend. Yes indeed this is a trip down my memory lane but I guess also a look into future things for I am sure that there are more pics to come which are based on custom action figures. there are so many breathtaking custom figs around, new ones showing up throwing their sparkles of inspiration on me!
-
I call that a win win Stefan. Thanks for always sharing your work with us. I feel like we have an art gallery in here thanks to you, Jules, and all the other great artists.
-
WIN-WIN indeed! and its great. We have a whole multi-themed exhibition here, sculpture and graphics. The yards are a special place :)
-
Amen!
-
:D
-
Awesome!
-
thank you, Mungo, glad you like this "old fossil" :D
-
Art, that's wonderful. You have come such a long way in such a short space of time and you have developed your own unique style.
-
Thanks so much for your kind words, Jules. :)
-
already infected one customizer with ideas based on my newest concept pic so lets spread some inspiration here as well ;-)
originally I wanted to do a fine art nude painting but don't ask me why I suddenly had this Twi'leks in mind ... so I switched over and did this concept sketch to explore the idea and fool around with the costumes. Not quite sure about the outfit and some details on them but its a start.
Enjoy!

Yowza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well between you and Spry and Chad and a few others it looks like the front page is all set for the next few days. I must say I look forward to things like this more than the new SDCC offerings.
-
thanks for you special compliment, Tamer! seems those bubble gum colors put a spell on everybody ;-D
-
Very cool piece of art!!! :o
-
glad you like the ladies, botwt ;D thank you!!
-
The Green figure has a wonderful expression however I think that the pink girl needs something, her expression/pose doesn't seem to match the other female. My gut feeling is that both girls should have that tough sultry look.
Saying that, I wouldn't nit pick if your standard wasn't anything less than stunning.
-
Thanks a lot for your feedback, Jules. I don't see this as nit picking, its a feedback to improve the image! Indeed the expressions are different, the green one was supposed to be not that amused about whatever guy or situation she is facing opposed to the pink one. She seems to enjoy it ... thats the basic idea, but I have not further developed it. The sketch focused more on the outfits and overall look.
-
You've got the outfits and backdrop perfectly, you've also captured the green female's look perfectly, she reminds me of Y'Alla Volk in my X-Wing Alliance series. I will keep checking in to see if this image evolves.
You have a remarkable talent.
-
Thanks so much, Jules! Sure I’ll post updates on the pic – if there ever will be one. As always I have more ideas than I have time to do finished paintings, so maybe this one will stay a concept sketch forever. Let’s see what will happen, sometimes I’ll grab year-old sketches and even finished paintings and start working on them, developing … so anything can happen ;-)
-
To me the two characters were like.
Gal in Pink (I look good!)
and then the gal in green (Are you really that stupid?) so she had a kind of incredolous expression on her face.
-
haha, hell yes, I can hear them talk this way :D
-
Stefan, your art never fails to impress me. Your talent knows no bounds.
-
Very cool Stefan, I dig it. Some very stimulating art indeed!
-
thanks for you kind comments, my friends, makes me feel good :) and I am glad I could send some inspirations back as a return gift for the good vibrations your customs and work are giving me.
-
Maybe its because my latest book cover illustrations had to be more accurate (of course) that I now had to go back and do a wild and sketchy pic, just to let the energy flow and let the power break free if you know what I mean. I had so much fun that I am now planning to do such images on a more regular base.
Again my son posed the action figures I used for reference.
Hope you like it.

-
:D thanks a lot, Wraith9 :)
-
Absolutely brilliant Stefan. I think its great and perhaps you need to let the power flow more often. Great quote by the way. Back on the front page. I need to go find your FB Page and link that too. How you haven't been tagged to do some Celebration Artwork is beyond me.
-
This is STUNNING SPECTACULAR WICKED AWESOME! ;D ;D ;D ;D DH
-
thanks for your flattering feedback, guys!!
yes, sure more to come this way, and you know a yarder fp is a special celebration on its own :) thanks so much, Shawn :)

You are quite welcome Stefan. We do enjoy your work here at ISY.

Very cool Stefan! I love your loose expressive style work! Great colors as well!

thanks a lot, L.E.!! it really makes me happy to see when someone agrees on my favorite style and like it the way I do ;-)
-
Some may have seen the post on facebook promoting this German Scifi story. But now here is a clear pic of my cover artwork. Hope you like my "custom figure", a character named Heiko Chan, a so called specialist in survival techniques in the service of Mechanics Inc. I had a lot of fun developing his outfit though I am not that good in character design. But its the fun that counts ;-)
So enjoy.

Holy @#$@!% that is amazing! ;)

wow, nice!!
-
thanks a lot, guys :)
-
Very nice Stefan. On the front page.
I also noticed an awesome Maris Brood that I shared on our FB Page yesterday too.
-
you are really an awesome supporter, Shawn, and I can't thank you enough for liking my works and spreading the word about it :)
Yeah, I am working on a bunch of cover art concepts for the German Star Wars fan club magazine, Maris Brood is one of them. Two other ladies are on my list: Aayla Secura and Shae Vizla. Still no clever idea for a stunning action pose worth a cover ;-)
And I have to be careful not to show too much of the concepts to the German fans for the images should not be revealed too early and we still don't know if they get a GO or not... thats why I am using cropped WIPs only and detail shots.
-
okay, so this is especially for you, Tamer, for you seem to like Maris Brood :D
I think there are not that much German members at the Yards to spoil this project so I have decided to post my full WIP image of Maris Brood here. But please do not re-post it at facebook ;-)
Thanks!
Enjoy!

While talking with Kweh-Chan I noticed that I haven't updated my thread here with my latest work. Actually I did this Tusken Raider some months ago but it has to remain in the dark till its publishing date as back cover of the current issue of Teekay-421 magazine.
There are also some pics I am working on for the German fan club mag but nothing I am allowed to showcase so far. I am sorry for that but all pics will show up some day ;-) I promise.
Cheers!

That is an outstanding cover! Your colouring is clean and bold, and your style is awesome! This must have looked amazing on the magazine! 8D
-
Thanks so much!! Glad you like it :)
Yeah, thats my favorite style, a bit expressive, fine art and comic like in somekind of mix, traditiional style mixed with photoshop... bold. You named it :)
-
SWEET! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :o :o :o :o :o
-
:D thank you!
-
Long time no post, sorry, did a lot of commissions, fantasy and other stuff as well as my traditional works. You my have seen it all on Facebook :D But now I thought this one might be of interest for you Yarders as most of you are Star Wars fans ;-) Its originally an old and rough 3D render which I extensivly overpainted, added background buildings as well as other details and all the lighting etc.
Hope you like it :)
Coming soon will be two images for which I used action figures as basic reference like I used to do and its still fun.
Happy New Year to everyone!

Its always good to see an update Stefan. I am off to the front page with more comments.
-
Stefan, Happy New Year! Fabulous work on this one.

SO beautiful and lifelike! I'm always in awe at your creations. Your art is outstanding; how are you not licensed by Lucasfilm yet?
-
Thanks a lot for your compliements, my friends! Glad you enjoy this one :) BTW I am currently working on a fem Space Merc... coming soon!
WOW, Tamer, its pretty cool to come back and start right to the fp! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your support :)

Very nice! Awesome work Art!

Thank you very much, my friend, glad you enjoyed! :)
As said some more work is in the pipe, so stay tuned. I guess 2013 is also going to be a very creative one.

You are quite welcome! I have this wonderful ship sitting on my floor, I'm hoping one day to build a shelf for it!

yeah, there is never enough hours a day for us creative people to build/paint it all :)

Oh my word!!!
Such an amazing piece of work! As you know I love my spaceship art, and you've really captured one of the special effects highlights of the prequqals. Lovely angle!

Hi guys,
I am doing a lot of concept sketches and stuff just to get a plie of ideas out of my head, and one of the concepts regarding Star Wars is a Force Unleashed Shaak Ti!
Always wanted to do a FU Shaak Ti ;) Still not full satisfied with this one, some foreground elements need to be added to create more depth and its only a pose after a statuette so I am thinking of different posings ...what the heck, its Shaak Ti and she is sexy ;D
Enjoy!

Very nice! C'est magnifique!
-
Thanks a lot for your compliment, Kualan! :)
-
Just gorgeous Stefan. Wow.
Off to the front page I am.
-
This one is quite stunning! I love the white outline around her. Very nice work Stefan!
-
If I were allowed, I'd purchase this and hang it right over my fireplace...but I'm guessing the ol' wifey wouldn't appreciate the beauty of this piece like I do. Just an Incredible design and production value!
-
Thanks so much, my friends!
Always a great honor to be on the FP, Tamer, thank you!
Great to see you love the outline style, L.E., thanks for letting me know! Very encouraging to go on with it!
:) JM, this is a very special compliment, thank you, and cheers to our wifes :)

Beautiful job on Shaak Ti!!

Love the Shaak Ti, Stephan.

Thanks a lot, sir!

Art.... I am going to be critical of this last Shak-ti piece... You know I love your work, especially when you push the boundaries, mix styles and choose an unusual subject...I've had your Naboo ship as my desktop for a while now, so I am a big fan.... but this one didn't show your full potential I don't think. Lack of shadows and the white border make the figure look as if it's been pasted onto the background.
I don't recall making too many critical comments like this, but I feel that honesty is the correct policy when dealing with such an accomplished artist.

Thanks so very much for your thoughtful reply and being that honest, Jules! I always appreciate honest and respectful feedback to learn more about my art as seen through other eyes than just mine.
You may be surprised now to hear that I absolutly agree on your thoughts. Though I may continue to use the white backlit outline on her it indeed looks a lot like just a figure in front of a backdrop image, just pasted on. Exact my words I said to my wife when I had finished it. As I wrote I am still not quite satified and am thinking about a better foreground to integrate her into the world, creating more depth. Well, its nothing more than a concept yet I did to visualize a basic idea for the publisher of the German Star Wars magazine and it sure needs some development - and your feedback second my thoughts!
Again thanks a lot, my friend!
Stefan
-
I see where Jules is coming from and tend to agree. To me it was you trying something different. The piece has a Graffiti like style with the white outline, that I like. As has been said there is less depth and shadowing in this piece but I figured that was the look you were going for. In my old Graffiti days we outlined every character or piece, so it would stand out from the background and that is what this piece reminded me of.
-
Hey Spry, thanks so much for this wonderful response! Your comparision with Graffiti is a very good one, I like that. As you know my outlining is a essential part of my traditional art, an expressive one and I also like to use it from time to time within my illustrations, mixing realism with kinda comicbook lines, raising the expressive feeling... its hard to describe. So if I ever finish the Shaak Ti I sure will keep the white backlit outline but as said have to increase and develop the other things.
Cheers!
-
Hey guys,
I found this one in my archive, its a older work I did way back in 2009 where I did a lot of action figure composites and stuff you know, but I never showcased it so far. Time to do so I think! Let me know what you think, hope you like it :)
It's titled "Graslandpatrol". Cheers!

That image is magnificent! I love the way you have added the grass, the whole image conveys movement so well. The troopers pose is one of determined attitude, perfect! The subject matter looks like a Vietnam war image, beautiful yet dark.
I love the colours and the image size, definitely one of my favorites.
-
Wow, gorgeous. Back on the front page.
-
Reading your comments is a wonderful start into my day, thanks so much, my friends!
Always appreciate the fp, Shawn, and Jules, its cool that you mention a Vietnam feeling cause thats what I had in mind. Glad to see it shows up :)
-
Hi Art
I just want to say I'm glad you pulled this one out of the archives, it's very nice. Hard to believe this is an action figure composite. If one looks deep into this image you can almost feel it. Like I said very nice.

Huh, two years no updates... well, such is life including me quitting this kind of works but there are still some pics which I did not showcase here and I think I kind of owe you a look at them. This is based on a photograph of a x-wing modell kit and was commissioned by the SW fan club of Belgium.

Did not notice that... man, what a number!!! Unbelievable!! Thanks so much for all your views and your company on my little journey through art, my friends! And of course a big THX to you, Tamer, for another shoutout on the FP. This will always be something special.
-
This piece is stunning! The accuracy of the T-65, the weathered "used" look, the color choices, the lighting... they are all superbly executed.
-
Very nice work again!!!

This piece is stunning! The accuracy of the T-65, the weathered "used" look, the color choices, the lighting... they are all superbly executed.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoy it. Well, almost all of the accuracy came from the modell used as reference plus some research. Painting the used look is the fun part, I really like it heavy weathered :) But it is also very time consuming, layers of layers of tiny doodled lines and circles in various colors plus some photo texturing. Of course the end result makes it all worth it.
Very nice work again!!!
thanks so much, Andy!
-
A true masterpiece.
Welcome back my friend.

Your welcome. I would love to commission a copy of this for my work!

Yeah, I know you are a "Hothy" :D :D
Well, this was just like many other images a little time killer, no high res or large format... so I can only offer the original file size 1500x555 here: http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/148/2/0/probe_droid_by_art_dewhill-d66xjuh.jpg (http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/148/2/0/probe_droid_by_art_dewhill-d66xjuh.jpg) which will look okay as postcard or in letter format but not in poster size.

Hi all,
so here is another Lucasfilm approved cover artwork I did for the German fan club magazine some time ago, titeld it "The Circle is complete" and as you may notice it is based on a cool Kotobukiya statue.
Enjoy!

Thanks so much, Tamer!
And hey, Hot Toys Obi is a perfect keyword, you know when I first saw their photos I thought "did they know about my cover (which I did way long before their release) or what?" because the point of view and setting is nearly the same! Strange how things go. They sure did not copy me and this POV is sort of obligatory when recreating the scene so it is just funny.
-
This is really awesome !!! I would love to see your approach on the Obi Wan mythos statue !

Was killing some time and doing another Facebook header image, this time featuring Agent Melinda May. I am a big fan of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Avengers and stuff and so it is no surprise that I produce related images :)
Feel free to share or use it.

As said and maybe noticed by some of you, over the last 3 years I was on and off with Star Wars and sci-fi art struggling with myself and which way to go in art. Finally it got clear that I must follow my inner voice of course and step into the little corner of old fashioned traditional and sometimes abstract sci-fi, but adding digital techniques, too.
This image really sums it all up.

I am sorry for not being that acitve here because my self-promotion on plattforms like Twitter, Deviantart, Flickr, Tumblr, Imagekind, FineArtAmerica (I am selling prints and originals now) and Facebook is very time-concuming so you'll get most of my updates there but I will stay connected with the forum especially with news on my Star Wars art. I promise.
Cheers!

Sooo, what did I do over the past months...?
This one has a long story... originally done in 2015 as traditional painting with lots of heavy strokes and thick paint. But I did not like the result and almost threw it away. Overpainting was no option because of the heavy textures that where already there and I also did not want to paint another one... at least not then. New ideas were coming up how to layout the new painting I began reworking a photo of the failed image digitally. Then a friend who is running a little publishing house requested the new concept as cover artwork and so it all ended up with a heavy rework in photoshop instead of a new traditionally painted image. This is the now satisfying result :)

Hi all,
this oil painting was inspired by a little scifi novel written by a friend and publisher telling the story of an alien invasion. The structure of the ships looks a bit Borg and was done using palette knifes.
Hope you like it!

This is looking good on our pages. I like it. It is great to see you back with your sci fi artwork Stefan.
-
Thanks a lot for enjoying and sharing, Shawn!
Can't deny it: sci fi simply belongs to my colorful world. And I have a lot of new ideas in my mind ;-)

Was talking to my son about the fan art stuff I did while being his age (he started building and painting Warhammer miniatures) and so I looked through my Star Wars folders, I mean real ones not virtual, full of posters magazines, newspaper articles, photos... every bits and peaces one can get your hands on about Star Wars those days. And OMG look what I have found!
Some of my very first fan art paintings I ever made! Painted with acrylic colors on a letter size paper way back in 1984!!! I was 19 years old ...
Now that is a memorie lane ;-)

Indeed. :) Thanks a lot, my friend!

Old or new your work has and always will be impressive mate.
Ron

ah, you are exaggerating, Ron :) thank you very much for your compliment and making me blush!
-
Just a little Photoshop fun to kill some time :)
This is actually a Clone Action figure customized/repainted by my son. I took a photo of the figure and photoshopped some action to it. Maybe I'll translate the image into an oil painting some day... don't know yet.
Hope you like it!

again I want to say a big thank you for your shout out, Tamer, always appreciated!
-
I really like the Clone Trooper pic.
It looks very dynamic.
-
Thank you very much my friend!
Maybe I'll turn it into an abstract oil painting some day because the dynamic of the scene would go togethter with an expressive render... we will see ;-)
-
Hey guys, my journey on fan art meets Expressive Realism continues with my oil painting of this broken C-9979 from The Clone Wars.
And don't worry if this modern painting style not your cup of tea, one cannot like all sorts of art ;-)
Let me know what style you would enjoy more instead.
-
Looks pretty awesome to me. I like it. Off to share it.
Gotta wonder what a Hoth Scene or Walker would look in this style. :o
-
makes me happy to hear, Tamer, many thanks!!
Well, a scene with a Probot on Hoth is coming soon ;-) and doing some fine art AT-ATs is really a cool idea!
-
So here it comes, my oil painting of the imperial Probot. Just landed on this little ice cube planet named Hoth :)
Hope you like it!

Hi all,
inbetween other projects I take a little break to paint a traditional oil painting I wanted to do a for a long time: Ol' Kenobi's home on Tatooine. Based on the Special Edition matte shot I also changed some things and of course it is painted in my modern type art style. Hope you like it!
-
Stefan that looks fantastic. Love the style. Off to share.

Always love seeing your art work mate and this one is no exception.

Hi all,
well, it has been a few months and those who are following me on Insta or Facebook may have noticed it already that I have now really started to push my fan art on top of my art interests and themes and not only doing them now and then.
Finally.
This means that there will be many more new paintings around the corner ;-) I quitt the digital stuff so the new works will be all done traditionally with oil colors.
For I am a fan of the The Clone Wars it was inevitable that there would be a painting reminiscent of the series. Titled "Remains from the Clone Wars", painted in an bold expressive art stlye with oils on primed paper, 19.7*23.6 inches.
Thanks for your time!

Sure looks great to me. Nice to see you back around.
Off to the front pages.

Hi Tamer, thank you very much for the fp!! You are sure a fan and supporter of my art. You know there are already four more paintings lying around, oil is still wet and they are unsigned, one painting is in the making (this time my first character pic in this new style), and hey, they are all waiting to be showcased, that is for sure :)

Amazing as always buddy.

Hello Yarders,
to celebrate the opening of the new SOLO movie I would like to share my digital artwork of the galaxy's favorite Corellian smuggler with you, depicting him the way I met him in my childhood days :) It was published some time ago in the German Star Wars fanclub magazine and is approved by Lucasfilm.
And to make this a real good celebration I have a poster size file online you can download for FREE if you like!

Enjoy!

Now that is just a cool way to celebrate the new film. Off to share this and your great link!
-
Many thanks, Tamer!
Glad you enjoy my Solo wall decoration just like Jabba enjoyed his Solo carbonite statue :D

I really like your painting "Remains from the Clone Wars"! And also your digital art work is well done!
Both look gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
- Philipp
-
Hello Philipp, I have to thank you for taking a look and enjoying my works!! Makes me pretty happy and keeps me going strong for the next paintings :) More to come!
-
You're very welcome! Your work is very inspring! My girlfriend is talented, too and she likes painting a lot. I should tell her we should paint together, again. It's been a while since. I should paint more anyway, but I lack of time. Model building is what I mostly do, painting objects not canvas. Time for a little bit of variety...
Best regards from Germany and have a nice weekend!
- Philipp
-
So hey, grab your brushes and slap some paint onto scale models or canvas, doesn't matter :) Doing different stuff is a good thing, you open up and increase your abilities and you refresh your mind. I also did some scale models and even traditional (abstract) objects. It is fun. But I also learned that my true way is oils.
BTW I am from Germany, too ;-)
If you like to connect on FB, Insta or Deviantart, drop me a note.
Grüße,
Stefan

It is great to see you back with some awesome artwork.
The Han Solo poster looks really cool.
Thank you very much for sharing it.

That is just brilliant Art, I could see that mounted on my wall.;)
Ron
-
Hello Ron and Fiala, thanks you both so much for sending good vibrations!! Glad you like my last posting, where the word "last" fits twice. Because the Han poster marks the end of my digital fan art, after this I set a new goal and will now focus on the marriage of my traditional so called expressive realism style using oils and fan art. Four new paintings are curently finished and drying, all a bit different and showing variations of my technique depending on the theme and idea behind the motif. So stay tuned :) I am rocking and rolling :D
-
Hey Stefan,
I apologize for the late reply! It's been quite crazy recently. That's a great idea! Let's see if I can find you on FB...
Grüße

Here it comes, my brandnew traditional STAR WARS artwork! :)
It is oils on canvas, 40*30 cm, and was inspired by the Sideshow Collectibles Ben Kenobi - Mythos statue.
BTW, my painting is NOT a portrayal of Ewan McGregor or Sir Alec Guinness, it is a character study of Ben Kenobi, which means one should recognize the figure as Kenobi rather than one of the actors.
Exciting news for me is a new cooperation with the Belgian Star Wars fanclub TeeKay-421. Their president and I agreed on a couple of cover artworks for the next few years and I am really looking forward to this project. So I hope I will not run out of ideas :D

Now this is pretty daggone awesome. I really like it. And congrats on the new commission.
Off to share.
-
Thank you very much, Shawn! Glad you like it! You know it is not that easy to keep up my rough expressive painting technique and still get a recognizable figure and some detailing done... but no challenge no fun :)
-
WOW! Great work Art. Congrats on the fanclub gig. Sounds like you'll have your hands full.

Ganz herzlichen Dank, Christoph, thanks so much!!
Yeah, I am really looking forward to this cooperation, but besides I have other paintings in early developing stages as well. Inspiration is coming from everywhere, mostly screen captures and concept art or photos from toy figures and statues like the Kenobi piece. I wish there was more time to paint them all :)

Hi all,
this is the next of my expressive realism style paintings depicting a scene from Rogue One. It is hard to paint figures and especially troopers this way, getting the balance right between loose brush work and a certain amount of details needed to deliver the figure.
Hope you like it :)

I really like your style of painting! Krennic's arrival is a very nice picture to depict - I watched Rogue One again last week and was reminded why I like this movie so much! It's also funny that I have been planning on depicting this scene for one of my next dioramas - only the vehicle will be different ;)
I really enjoy your art! Please, keep the great work up!

Thanks so much for your uplifting compliment, Philipp, really helps me going! I liked Rogue One a lot and have some more paintings in mind :) And of course I am very curious now and can't wait to see you diorama.
Cheers!

Sorry for not being that active here, just popping in on FB from time to time and enjoying your stunning dios and customs ... often thinking of turning them into modern artworks :)
And that is the point: I mean art ... I am still doing fan art from time to time, but focus more on traditional themes as well as on my expressive modern art style and painting & selling original art.
Anyway, this is one of my latest SW paintings, a bit more realistic than my current landscapes - but otherwise no one would recognize Kay ;-)
Hope you art lovers out there enjoy it!

Hi Philipp, thanks so much for your detailed feedback and uplifting words! You seem to like the portrait for the same reasons than I do myself :) And I am glad you do.
Cheers!

Absolutely! I really think the shape of the K-2's head is a great design and a challenge to recreate/paint. But you did it! It looks fantastic and as JD already said, we like your style!
The colors and the design look stunning! So please keep your art and inspiration coming! I think your painting inspire us as much as our feedback does to you!
Viele Grüße aus Dresden & einen schönen Sonntag dir!

Makes me happy to hear that you enjoy my painting style, though I have to say it is getting even more impressionistic these days ;-) You know I focus on my original artworks and themes, doing fan art is just a longtime sidekick. In former years I did it the digital ways as realistic illustration, it was a totaly different thing than doing oil paintings and a good counter part. But I lost interest and discovered that I am a true painter and not an illustrator so I quit the digital stuff. But I did not quit fan art, instead I am now trying to adapt my traditional style to it. It is big fun but of course my audience changed. Someone who likes realistic paintings does not necessarily like modern art.
If you want I'll be happy to keep posting and you all up-to-date on my journey in artsy fan art.
Beste Grüße
Stefan

Good to see you still in SW artwork.

Thanks a lot for your uplifting compliment, Fiala! Yeah, seems like a habbit coming back - at least once in a while- to this galaxy far far away :)
