Started this a few months ago and love how it turned out. I'm working with a friend to have new footcups 3d printed so it isn't just cardboard inserts giving the appearance. At some point, if I can spare the scratch for it, I'd love to add the missing AT-AT hatches. (I got this one for super cheap as it was pretty much bare bones.

This one is still a bit in progress, as there will be more Forest a bit further back and I want to add more standing trees when I do manage to find time.

Ron
-
Wow, now this is a great way to introduce yourself. Love it.
And welcome to ISY. I can see you are gonna have a lot of fun here!
-
Thanks for the welcome guys! I've got plans to upgrade the Hangar Bay stuff to have more movie-esque backgrounds so everything isn't pegboard and plug outlets. I'd like to eventually have sky backdrops to add a bit to the outdoor dioramas as well.
Here's another I got around to uploading.

You sir are unhinging my jaw! I am working my way through these one at a time.
Today I got the Hoth Dio on the front pages and I just love the action. Trust me I will feature all the dios you have posted here. I can't imagine the cost in action figures alone for some of this. What a labor of love!
-
What a introduction, and Welcome to the yards ! Look forward to seeing more from you !
-
Wow!
Those must have been a lot of work to set up, but also really fun to look through.
Keep them coming.
-
Two great looking dio's mate keep up the great work and keep them commin.
Ron
-
Got the Batte for Endor up on the front pages. Good stuff.
-
Just went thru your dio's again and I missed it the first time but your Endor trees looks excellent. It looks like you used wool for the bark?
Ron
-
Got the Emperor's Arrival on the front pages. Still liking all these great dios.
-
Sweet set up, I love your hanger bay display.
Great job.
-
Just went thru your dio's again and I missed it the first time but your Endor trees looks excellent. It looks like you used wool for the bark?
Ron
Thanks! Yes, it's wool yarn glued and then hit with textured spray paint. I was surprised by how well it worked. It's a tedious process, but it looks pretty good.
-
Yavin IV on the front pages.
-
These are fantastic! Can't wait to see what else you come up with next! Reminds me of my dream of recreating every single scene of every single movie shot-for-shot with figures!
-
Dagobah Dio on the front pages. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
-
Wow another impressive Dio ! Really like your work keep them coming
-
Thank you so much guys! I've got to lay down a layer of clear resin on the swamp and then I want to redo the trees. Then it's onto the Trash Compactor scene and making a crap load of Endor trees.
-
I LOVE ALL OF YOUR DIO'S AWESOME STUFF. GREAT JOB
-
A little WIP I'm starting because they just took down a tree in my backyard and I have SO many sticks to use for trees.

Wow, you can read more of my comments on the front page. It already looks great.

Put down a layer of baking soda and did a sort of lighting test (Provided by BB-8's "torch"). I plan on adding more "snow" and then doing a backdrop to give it a little more atmosphere.

Nice work! Very dynamic poses for the duelists! I look forward to seeing your trash compactor! That is certainly one of many dioramas I still have planned in my head. I am looking forward to seeing how you are going to tackle the 'water'. I was going to use one inch soft cushion foam and use an xcato blade to make cuts in it for the figures to put their legs in to give the illusion they are knee deep. If you have not come up with something, feel free to use that idea. I don't know if that would work outside of my head but feel free. Again, nice job!
-
The Ren and Rey dio looks excellent mate has a lot of action going on and the base adds to the realism.
I'm really look forward to seeing how the trash computer dio turns out.
Ron
-
I can see the snow flying from here. Great update. Off to share that one too.
-
Thank you guys. This feedback has helped me through a VERY rough day.
As for the Trash Compactor, I had a couple ideas. Like using saran wrap with holes punched in it and "garbage" piled on top where I could put the legs through. I considered just making it non-adjustable and have the walls in a stationary position, but I kind of like that I can move them in and have them threaten to flatten the quartet. I think we the clear plastic I could probably achieve the watery look and still have it be adjustable.
-
Got it painted this weekend. This week I intend to put in some garbage and work on the door. Really love how the grime turned out!

-
This is turning out really well. I agree with you about the "grime" - it certainly doesn't look clean. I'm enjoying the work in progress reports.
-
This work in progress looks very promising! You created a very authentic and high quality model of this epic scene! Your circular saw is certainly a big advantage and the paint looks excellent!
I like it a lot!
- Philipp
-
Kinda interested to see how this is turning out too!

When I was a kid, I would watch those toy commercials where these kids got to play in these scaled, cool environments and I always wanted that. Well, I have a nephew now who's a massive Star Wars fan and experience in diorama building...so this is his Xmas gift.

Go Hoth! Bet you get a big ole hug for that one. Off to share.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! After I finish with this one, I'm hoping to finish the trash compactor and then I'm hoping to start on the crashed X-wing Jedha scene.
-
WOW. Always impressed when in see people really go for large displays. Wish I had the space, but all my stuff ends of stored for 99% of the time.
Looks really nice. Keep up the good work cannot wait to see more.
-
Well, this turned out successful. My Nephew absolutely LOVED this thing. We ended up reenacting the Battle of Hoth for about an hour. I have to say, seeing that walking AT ACT tromping on its own on this thing was REALLY cool.

Ron
-
That is a really cool Hoth playset for your nephew.
Excellent work.
-
Nice setup
-
I've got some big things planned if I can get the money together. (Though, after that Barge money goes bye-bye, that could be a while.) I'm still figuring out how I can do the trash compactor with "water" and garbage but maintain the moveable walls.
I want to invest in some more of those Spacewalls and build a multi-level Death Star set up along one of the pegboard walls to add with the Emperor's arrival set up. At some point, a buddy with a 3D printer is going to help me make the proper walls and light columns for the DSII Hangar bay.
Lots in planning, I just hope I'll be able to get to it all.
-
I'm currently working on a backdrop for my Hoth diorama. It's always bugged me having just the pegboard behind the thing, so I'm doing a sort of dual layered effect with this. This is just what I managed tonight. I still want to go over and clean some stuff up and make it look more natural, but for 2 hour's work, this isn't bad. I picked up this clear plastic sheeting and this is going to be the bottom layer. the next will include a bit more foreground detail and some hazing to try and hopefully make it look less like a painting. This is literally my first time painting anything like this, so I'm kind of nervous how it will turn out. We'll see how how it ends up soon, I guess!

-
Looks great so far.
I can't wait to see it finished.
-
Oh yeah, very nice. And for a first attempt too. Off to share.
-
That back drop is amazing mate, it has so much depth too it and looks real 10/10.
Ron
-
Thanks guys! I'm glad you all are digging this!
I have to say this for the Shipyards...you are a supportive bunch. I spent the past couple hours over on the RS boards and MAN! That place is like a snake pit. Thanks for being the place to go if you want to avoid that garbage!
-
I kind of see us like the Falcon as the ole Han saying goes...
I appreciate the comments.
-
The first backdrop panel is up. I have about seven more to make, but I'm loving how it looks with the scene. It's a subtle detail, but it's WAY better than the pegboard.

The hand painted backdrop does wonders for an already impressive diorama.

-
Panel 2 is underway! I want to add some action bits (burning towers, smoke and the like) and then I just have to make the fog layer. The others will mostly be sky so the Snowspeeders have something behind them.
-
Very nice. That one is gonna rock too. Off to share.
-
Another very nice painting! It'll look great as background of your diorama, which is by the way one of the best Hoth dios I've seen ,yet! Nice job!
- Philipp
-
Fantastic Hoth display mate.
Ron
-
This is a very impressive project.
The hand painted background looks great.

Execution on Eadu WIP:
I've always loved the landing platforms in Star Wars. I don't know why, but I love the look of them. Before I even considering attempting the circular glory of Bespin, I'm trying my hand at Eadu.
The base is there for this thing, but I've got a ton of detailing to do yet. I want to cut the metal floor paneling out of plastic to more accurately the look and give it more of an industrial, sci-fi quality than painted wood. Then there are a ton of greeblies to be added and I would LIKE to install working lights. We'll see how that goes.
The part I didn't consider I'd have to make is Krennic's Shuttle. My crafting skills on scratch-built ships isn't entirely there yet, so it's not as precise as I might like, but considering this is my first time trying it? I'm not beating myself up too much. Down the road, I'd love to remake this thing properly, but for now, after a few more details, it'll do. It's definitely proved to me that Hasbro could make this thing pretty easily and still have it be at a decent scale to the figures. It's a bit bigger than the Imperial Shuttle, just because of the wings, but, when painted and finished, it'll work with the figures pretty damn well.
Lots of details and lots of customizing to do yet (Gotta get me some scientists to execute!) but I'm enjoying the process.

Hoth was a brutally excellent diorama already! Now, this will be awesome, too! I really like Rogue One and seeing Krennic's Shuttle in 1/18 scale is beyond exciting!
Thanks for sharing the progress! I think we're all excited to see this develop.

Dagobah Update:
Managed to lay down a little more "realistic water" on this one. I REALLY wish I could have it look so deluded and swampy all the time, but it will eventually dry super clear. Love the look though!

Fantastic work mate.
Ron
-
Indeed a superb work!
-
Wow, is this 1/18 scale?! :o It looks like you're working on several projects at the same time! The repaint of the X-WIng is decently done for itself! I worked with clear water effects from Vallejo for my swamp diorama. I mixed the epoxy with green shade from Citadel and it turned out nicely. I know what you mean. Maybe you can add some white/milky color to your clear water, too?
Awesome progress so far! I'm looking forward to seeing the fnished diorama!
- Philipp
-
LOL yeah, I have a bit of ADD like that. I work on them when I can find the time or get the inspiration to try something new.
-
Yes, a second layer of clear water effects should work. I also think of using a fogger/air humidifier for my diorama. My sister had one of those once for her Halloween party. It would add nice fog effects to the Dagobah diorama, too! Let's see how I can incorporate it.
Here is a link to an example offer on eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultrasonic-Mist-Maker-Fogger-Water-Fountain-Pond-Atomizer-Air-Humidifier-NO-LED/142633235468?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3Df6b108aac26e4d4d8e2e69cd39fa8e31%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D401618195280%26itm%3D142633235468&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575055288&toolid=10001&campid=5337373868&customid=&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FUltrasonic-Mist-Maker-Fogger-Water-Fountain-Pond-Atomizer-Air-Humidifier-NO-LED%2F142633235468%3F_trkparms%3Daid%253D555018%2526algo%253DPL.SIM%2526ao%253D1%2526asc%253D20131003132420%2526meid%253Df6b108aac26e4d4d8e2e69cd39fa8e31%2526pid%253D100005%2526rk%253D1%2526rkt%253D6%2526mehot%253Dag%2526sd%253D401618195280%2526itm%253D142633235468%26_trksid%3Dp2047675.c100005.m1851)
- Philipp
-
Wow, what a great and cheap idea to get yourself a misty or fog scene going.
-
Oh wow, that is brilliant. I'm gonna consider how I could do that. A friend of mine took his vaporizer and blew it over the swamp and...my god, it looked perfect. I wonder how much area one of those would cover. There's a LOT of space there for it to cover.
-
They looked cheap enough to get multiples. You could just attach em all to the same surge protector and turn on em on and off at the same time.
-
Tamer is right! When my sister had her device (cost 12,99€ in a local store, but was probably the exact same thing), it filled the entire kettle with a diameter of 30 cm. These foggers can be very efficient. I’m gonna buy one on ebay right now. Then I can tell you how efficient it actually is. I think it should be sufficient if you place a bowl of water next to your diorama. The depth should at least be 5 cm for the fogger to work properly. You could also look for a rectangular, thin beverage (e.g. 50x7x10cm) to place behind the Diorama. Make sure to secure the wall behind the diorama against the moisture. It would look most fantastic if you lifted the Dio up to the edge of the bowl. That way the fog leaves the baverage at the same level of the swamp.
If this is too much playing with water, I think a second layer of epoxy with some white/grey added will look awesome, too!
Or you could work with both. All I want to do is to inspire and throw in some ideas of mine. Don’t want to tell you what to do.
When I build such a diorama of Dahobah I’ll definitively incorporate at least one of those foggers.
Your project looks great so far!
- Philipp
-
I'm going to buy a couple of these ultrasonic foggers without LED lights next month.
Here is some reference of how effective they are and how much fog one can generate:
They are meant to work in depths between 4 to 7 cm and use aroung 400 ml an hour.
You can use these in many ways - many possibilities. For your diorama I would get two of them to start with.

Very nice. Its great to see you back. I am off to share these on the front pages.

Wow! Those are really nice dioramas. The background for your Endor dio blends seamlessly with the 3D elements you have built - really excellent job on this. I love all the pictures, you must have had some fun posing the figures for these images :) Brilliant work!

Really cool great job

I love it!

This looks awesome. Wow. So real.

Thank you! Gotta say, getting the lightning right without reflecting off the backdrop was a task and a half!

Very cool!!

I take on way too many projects. :P
Endor landing platform. Still lots to do. I want to build the railings, docking terminals, the backdrop and the yellow markers on the platform. This has been in the dream projects list for a while now and thus far, I’m loving it.

Those lights look amazing? Are those off-the-shelf or did you make them?
-
They're actually from Playmobil. I absolutely love them.
-
That's awesome! Do you remember which set they were in? I do often raid my kids playmobil for dioramas and pictures already. :)

Like the lights they are so cool.

Speaking of lights...I found these little ones at hobby lobby that worked perfectly for this scene.

Nice light work. Off to share on the front pages.

My wife found a set of those at Hobby Lobby, too...and I thought that they would work for just such a movie scene as you have created. Nice job.
