Repaint/Mod: TCW Corporate Alliance Tank Droid

"The NR-N99 Persuader-class droid enforcer, colloquially known as the Corporate Alliance tank droid, CAD and the snail tank, was a tank droid constructed by the Corporate Alliance at first to silence its opposers and later to combat the Grand Army of the Republic."

Hasbro released the Corporate Alliance Tank in their Clone Wars Line in 2009. I had been hoping for a debut of this vehicle since I watched Episode III for the first time.
This version of the NR-N99 appeared in the Clone Wars Series in different colors, but I expected Hasbro to release a repaint of this tank in the following years.
I wondered why Hasbro didn't release this vehicle in their ROTS line right away...it would've been amazing along with the Wookie Flyer. However we never saw the Persuader as it appears on screen in Revenge of the Sith.
A simple repaint has always been a good way to pay off new molds and production costs (best example are Jedi Starfighters). Instead of re-releasing this awesome mold Hasbro even down-scaled the Class II vehicle line, which are more in scale 1/24 than in 1/18, now.

Since this let my hopes of a re-release/repaint fade away I decided to repaint the TCW version myself. I don't know if anybody did this before and I didn't find any pictures of a similar project online.
This plan has been in my mind since 2009 and this year I finally realized it:

There are only few pictures online to use as reference. For reference I used pictures of:

- Episode III (http://starwarsscreencaps.com/)
- the model of Wizards of the Coast (Star Wars Miniatures) (see picture below)
- some pics on google of model kits and drwaings etc.
- The model of DeAgostini, issue #51 CORPORATE ALLIANCE TANK DROID by their Star Wars Starships & Vehicles magazine. Unfortunately I do not have the magazine itself...(see picture below)

Wizards of the Coast (Star Wars Miniatures)

#51 CORPORATE ALLIANCE TANK DROID by DeAgostini
(http://i.imgur.com/2NowAQd.jpg)

1. First, I removed all 5 screws and took the vehicle apart.

2. Washing all parts is important before painting them in order to remove dust and fat. I just had to post this picture because this is an important step. Thanks to FialaFernbrugg for making me aware of it with his excellent videos on YouTube!
Watch them by following the link below:
https://www.youtube.com/user/FialaFernbrugg

3. I spray-painted the tank with the priming "Chaos Black" from Citadel. Now it looks like a prototype:

Later, I corrected the model by also spray-painting the inner edges:

There actually was a prototype for sale on eBay for I think $230 some years ago...does anybody know which one I mean? I just found another prototype on sale by the same seller. Follow the link below to check it out, it's "only" $128 if it is a real prototype. It might be the same if the seller just reduced the price from $230 to $128:

Here's a comparison to the original release:

Hasbro painted the TCW version in gold/brown colors. It looks like the version of the series and I also like it, but it looks too clean for a tank. In my opinion it looks more like a Bentley or a Rolls-Royce with these fancy colors - no weathering or any other extra paint!

4. I dry brushed the snail tank with CITADEL paints. Then, I applied a shade to the dirtiest parts of the tannk. I started with the darkest metal shade (base).

For the basic paint I used the following colors in the exact order:

Base: LEADBELCHER
Layer: RUNEFANG STEEL, IRONBREAKER
Dry: NECRON COMPOUND
Shade: NULN OIL

And this is how it looks at the moment:

This is how all parts of the bodywork look seperately:

This is a work in progress. I still need to finish the basic metal paint on all parts, paint the visors in red, paint the chain and build two custom cannons to replace the original missles.

If you have any questions, please ask!

Best regards from Germany!

Thanks guys I am happy you like it!

Here's just a quick update:

I collected some reference material and right now I am looking for suitable parts to use for the secondary canons...stay tuned for the final paint job. And sorry for the long time of waiting...

So over the weekend I FINALLY finished (almost) all parts of the Snail Tank! Only minor things still need to be done. I'll do some drilling tomorrow and still need another refill that is similar to the other...check out your pens! It's so hard to find two of the same refills...I got all of my pens for free...one here one there...I should've taken TWO at once! :D Anyway here is the result:

I highlighted the details of the cockpit by dry-brushing it and painting all instruments.

At the moment this repaint is to 98% done! I only need three more parts to complete the tank and drill two holes into the main canons.

I can say Hasbro did an amazing job on the Corporate Alliance Tank! We can probably be thankful that Hasbro released this vehicle in their Class II assortment at all! The TCW line ran before they down-scaled their Class II assortment in 2013...so we might not see the Corporate Alliance Tank again...in the near future...and as mentioned above I couldn't understand it if Hasbro left this mold after only one regular release. This first release might have included enough units that the mold paid off though...who knows?
So you probably agree the mold is superb and it fits in scale 1/18 quite well. By re-painting the NR-N99 I learned to appreciate this vehicle even more! Hasbro put so much detail into this mold - I love it! Thanks Hasbro!

Best regards!

- Philipp

I never got this vehicle, it's a two seater? Huh. (I really like that Hasbro included seats for these vehicles.)

Makes me want to play BF2. :{D

@ Tamer: Thank you for the recognition! I am very grateful for the positive feedback! I also like how this repaint turned out!

@tetsuoswrath: Thank you! Yes, it is a two-seater. According to Wookiepedia and what I know the Corporate Alliance Tank is officially meant to be an independently operating Droid. However in the Battlefront II videogame you can actually get in and drive the tank. And Hasbro put the effort into the interior deco and included the cockpit.
Although you can hardly see all deatils through the hatches, I just couldn't leave the cockpit unpainted. I will post more pictures, soon! I made another progress today!

Repaint: Naboo Flash Speeder - TPM 1999

"I always thought the Flash speeders were only good for joyriding. Then the Trade Federation invaded and I found out why we keep these green genies around. I just closed my eyes, and the next thing I knew, I was ten kilometers away from Theed."
 - RSF lieutenant Gavyn Sykes

So as I already mentioned in my other topic I started working on my next repaint. This time around it's the Naboo Flash Speeder, which was part of Hasbro's toy line for Episode I in 1999.

http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=10178.0

Hasbro released this vehicle in a blue color:

I would like to repaint it in a green color. LEGO actually released it in green more than once!
So the result should look like this:

So here is how it looks like at the moment. I have to spray paint all parts with a primer, next...
Let's see how this turns out. I might do a little modification on it like I did on the NR-N99.
Stay tuned for some updates, soon!

The Flash Speeder is actually a really great toy, with lots of seats and a fold out stand for someone to man the cannon as well.  Plus you can put a droid in the divot.  Did I mention it is shown often on Rebels.

I agree! Hasbro gave us a very nice toy with the Flash Speeder! All the features give it much play value! I can't wait to move on with this project and have two different versions on display.
And no, I didn't know that it appears in Rebels...I haven't watched a single volume of it...but I am glad it does! The Flash Speeder deserves more screen time :D

Title: Re: Repaint: Naboo Flash Speeder - TPM 1999
Post by: Darth More on March 07, 2017, 02:17:05 PM
The first step to repaint the Naboo Flash Speeder is to paint it with a primer. And like before on the Corporate Alliance Tank I used Citadel's Chaos Black to spray-paint the vehicle in black:

Citadel's "Purity Seal" is very useful to protect your models that are often touched or played with. Purity Seal is a clear varnish to protect your models/miniatures and makes all applied colors evenly mat. I included this varnish to show it to you. I won't use it on the Flash Speeder, though.

I arranged all parts in a cardboard box so that I could paint as many parts as possible with one application (spoiler alert for my upcoming projects). All areas that shouldn't be painted were covered with tape before.

When you spray-paint inside make sure to air the room you spray in sufficiently. It should also be dust free to avoid that particles are caught by the paint while it's still liquid.
I recommend to you to spray-paint outside, though.

May I introduce to you: The new and true "Black Series" Naboo Flash Speeder - the first one of many coming "Black Series" vehicles & figures...due to the lack of newness from the house of Hasbro...

The spray-painted parts with Citadel's "Chaos Black". The interior is not painted, yet. First, I removed the color that was applied to it before by the previous owner. I still have to decide whether to paint the interior just in grey or in grey with leather-color...just grey would be screenaccurate, but I like more than one color more...your thoughts?

For the rest of the vehicle's bodywork I chose Revell's No. 61. It's a nice and glossy green. For an oil-based color No. 61 is quite thin and can be applied very smooth - even with a (soft!) brush!

I used a very soft hair-brush to paint the bodywork. Make sure the parts you paint are dust-free! To test how the color looks when it's dry I applied some paint on a piece of paper, first.
If you own an Air-Brush system I would highly recommend to you to just air-brush the parts. It's just one color if you find the one that fits best. Air-Brushing saves you a lot of time and the result is probably better than (hair-) brushing them by hand...since I don't own an air-brush system, yet, I have to use a hair brush. I use more color to smoothen the surface. The soft brush helps to spread the color evenly without leaving grooves in the paint.

I started painting the green color on a small area to see how it turns out. The primer also contributes to the effect that the paint dries very smooth.

I plan on finishing this project this weekend.

Since my last update I also got new reference material: The Naboo Flash Speeder was also part of the Starships & Vehicles Collection from DeAgostini.

DeAgostini chose yet another color, which is also more green rather than blue. The original color scheme is probably turquoise. Along with the Flash Speeder I got many other models of this series.
And I'm going to make a review on them later on, too!

Since Wizards of the Coast is owned by Hasbro it's almost obvious that they choose the same colours for the miniature version.

LEGO on the other hand released their recent version of the Flash Speeder (75091) in green!
I like it!

Also in my last update I mentioned I was going to finish the Naboo Flash Speeder the coming weekend. Well, I did but wasn't able to take and upload pictures of my progress.
I am working on the last steps to finish this project and here's what I've done so far:

These are all colors I used:

For the Speeder's...
Bodywork: Revell: 61 - Emerald/Smaragd Green (shining), 34 - Ferrari-Red (shining)
Interior: Revell: Aqua Color - 378 Dark Grey (Shining), 82 - Dark-Earth (mat)
Details: Citadel: Necron Compound (Dry)
Damage feature: Revell Pigments - Deep Black

All parts repainted:

Interior:

For the interior I used two colors: Revell: Aqua Color - 378 Dark Grey (Shining), 82 - Dark-Earth (mat)
Before painting I taped all edges of the seats with tape. This makes it much easier to put the color where you want it to be.

I really like how the earth-shade turned out. It looks different once it's dry. As mentioned before the original model is all grey inside. Surprisingly DeAgostini chose to paint the interior of their Flash Speeder die cast model completely in light (leather) brown. I also like the leather look for the seats much more than just grey.

Details:

Red Stripes:

Here I also covered all areas that shouldn't be painted with tape. Make sure to press the tape onto the surface very hard  to avoid that paint runs underneath!
I used a very thin brush to apply Revell's No. 34 "Ferrari Red". This color was the only suitable red I got in my collection. I never used it before, but I think it fits the Speeder well!

Since the tape is applied you don't have to draw the red line carefully. Just make sure that your layer of color is thick enough and applied evenly.

When the paint was dry I removed the tape for the red line again. For some reason the tape was so strong that part of the green paint was removed again...this can usually only happen if the paint has not dried completely. I think I applied the tape too early...

...so I covered the red line with another strap of tape and corrected the damaged area with a new layer of Revell's No. 61 - "Smaragd Green".

Battle Damage:

Before I spray-painted the bodywork with Citadel's primer "Chaos Black" I covered the turbine with dough in order to protect the original paint of the turbine.

And this is how it looks after I removed the dough again:
I also dry-brushed some edges of the damaged bodywork with Citadel's "Necron Compound".

I then used Revell's pigment "Deep Black" to make this area look damaged as if the turbine had burnt before. Finally, I added a layer of Citadel's shade "Nuln Oil".

And this is how it looks compared to Hasbro's original:

Turbines:

Highlighting the back of the turbines was not much work. I dry-brushed the "grille" with Citadel's "Necron Compound".

After the dry-brush I added some of Revell's pigment "Deep Black" to make it look like Hasbro's paint on the front of the turbines. I covered the turbines' front before applying the primer (see post above) to maintain both areas.

And here's a before and after picture of both versions of the Flash Speeder.

Just wanted to give you a quick update. Unfortunately the Speeder is still not done completely.
Unfortunately I lost a part of the interior. Therefore I cannot put the Speeder back together before I find it. I'll update this post as soon as I find the missing part.

The canon will be updated as well. Since I only got one missle I'll have to make a resin part for my custom Speeder.

Best regards from Germany!

@ Tamer: If you like learing more about Star Wars vehicles I can recommend DeAgostini's magazine collection about Vehicles & Starships to you! I will start to review my collection, soon!

@ hemble: Thanks, Ron! I also added some more pictures to my previous post here, too! Sorry for the sloppy description. I was a little tired when I posted it first, but now I updated all texts as well! The description is now completed!

I quite like it in black, maybe another?  And how about doing one up as an improved beige Luke Speeder?  The Flash Speeder is an improvement as a toy on many levels.

It looks so much better with the new colour.
I hope you find the missing part.

@ bubbavader: These are excellent ideas! Thank you very much for your inspiration! I already got the paint for my next Flash Speeder. Now, I just need a second Speeder to use as custom :D And I agree with you! This vehicle was impressive back then - it got so much play value for its size and price.

@ FialaFernbrugg: Thank you very much! I still haven't found the missing part, but it has to be somewhere...otherwise I'll just make a new one out of resin ;)

Thank you so much for your feedback guys! I always appreciate it!

Repaint: Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry (LAAT/i) (AOTC/ROTS)

"The Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry (LAAT/i), also known as the Low Altitude Assault Transport, Republic attack gunship or Assault Gunship, was a gunship used by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. Its role was to transport troopers as well as offering air-to-ground and air-to-air support for the Republic against the Separatists. After the formation of the Galactic Empire, the remaining LAAT/is were absorbed into the Imperial Navy."

Republic Gunship

It's Saturday and what's happening this weekend? Right, New York Toy Fair! I knew the International Toy Fair was probably going to steal me the show, but honestly I didn't expect much news from Hasbro...
Now, since the first pictures of the Imperial Combat Assault Tank leaked, the occasion of posting this couldn't be better!

I don't know what you think about the "Hover Tank" (it seems the name was corrected), but I think this new release is going to make vehicles great, again!
Hasbro have done an amazing job on this one as far as the pictures tell we have so far...important to note here is: They even put weathering on it! And I really hope the final product looks as well as this sample on Toy Fair does!
It's funny that exactly the same was done on this Republic Gunship...

Last week I was able to acquire this custom on eBay and it arrived today. So I didn't repaint it myself, but I still wanted to share it with you. I found it for 62€ and got it 68€ including shipping.
It came without the back canon, but I can easily replace it with one of my resin parts, which I actually made already.

So let's jump right into this project!

In 2005 Hasbro released a repaint of the Republic Gunship which had its deput in 2002. This time around it came with green instead of red paint apps. And I still don't know why. But I do know that there were some changes made prior the final edit of Revenge of the Sith - so this might be an early concept of the Gunship for Episode III - but I don't know if it's seen in any scene of the movie. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as I can tell this Gunship was repainted with email colours (e.g. Revell or humbrol). It was painted with a brush and wheathered with some incredible techniques. The paint peeled off on some parts, but I will apply some fresh paint on it and seal it with a clear varnish because that hasn't been done, yet. I take this occasion to also do some investigation on which colours were used exactly.

It's interesting to see a Japanese instruction sheet...I got a Droid Tri Fighter in Japanese packaging, but that's all I know - is anybody able to read these letters?

Again, pictures say more than words...enjoy! ;)

Before I re-assembled the Gunship I took pictures of all the detais. All functions were maintained like the firing missles, rotating front turrets or opening hatches:

Phillip this is simply incredible!! Your patience, skill, and dedication are evident in every picture!! I especially admire your technique for blaster damage and carbon scoring, how exactly did you paint that?

Overall the weathering and repaint look fantastic, what a great gunship! Excellent work as always my friend.

@ talonreap: Thank you very much my friend, but the glory is for somebody else because I did not repaint this Gunship myself, but I would love to do that some day. I updated the script for this post since I didn't have enough time for that, yesterday.

Although this is not my project I can already tell you some deatil about it:

First off to answer your question:

I assume that a small bristle brush was used to apply these damage effects. The applied paint was partly removed with a piece of tissue or a cottom swab afterwards.
The silver scratches were applied with a softer brush using just a metal/silver paint. Some parts were dry-brushed as well.

- this Gunship was painted with brushed, it was not air-brushed
- email colours (e.g. from Revell or humbrol) were used
- a shade was not used on this project

I am sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm actually working on a similar project myself right now so stay tuned for that :)

Best regards from Germany!

@Tamer: Thank you Shawn! I always enjoy working on vehicles and I got two more in the works at the moment...

@FialaFernbrugg: Yes, I agree! And you're welcome! I really enjoyed taking the pictures.

@hemble: Thank you very much! But the flowers go to someone else. I got this Gunship on eBay and didn't mention it right away - that was my bad, but I really wanted to share it with you! The seller I got it from didn't repaint it himself and he doesn't know who made it anymore. He also got it in a lot from eBay. I will work on some scracthes and apply some clean varnish to it to protect the paint from further damage. I also enjoy looking at different customs to learn from them for myself. I'll try to repaint a model kit of the LAAT/i just like that to gain some more experience.
You're one of my big role models/idols and inspiration, Ron! I really enjoy your projects and always feel honored to receive feedback from you!

Republic Attack Dropship

"Dropships were any craft designed to transport troops to the surface of a planet. Models of dropship included the Imperial Dropship Transport, the Theta-class barge, and the Y-85 Titan dropship. The Gozanti-class cruisers could also be used as dropships, as they could carry either four TIE/ln space superiority starfighters, four All Terrain Defense Pods or even two All Terrain Armored Transports on underside-mounted docking clamps."

In April I purchased five custom painted vehicles from Hasbro on eBay. Four of them are from the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and one is from the Techno Union.
The four vehicles of the New Republic were offered for 100€/$115 USD and the vehicle of the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) for 45€/$51.75 USD (current exchange rate of 1.15 EUR to USD).

I DID NOT paint these vehicles myself.
The name of the customizer and artist, who painted and weathered them, is Jan.
I just enjoy taking and editing pictures and would like to share them with you!

They were painted with silver metal email colors mostly along the edges and washed with a black wash. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask in the comment section down below!

Interesting to note here is that I sold this Swamp Speeder in new condition a couple years ago to Jan who customized it. He sold two of them in April - so it is possible that I bought it back from him. I wrote him before I made the purchase and remembered his name. He's a very nice guy and I'm glad to own some of his work, now. He turned four units of massed produced "toys" into unique pieces. For me, this is magic.

This is the fourth vehicle of the set I found on eBay in April. And I have to admit: It's quite frustrating that the first custom Republic Fighter Tank I share on here is not customized by me. But it's an honor to have these customs from Jan in my collection, now.
As you might've seen in the table of content on page 1, I plan a series of repaints of the IFT-X.
The IFT-X is my absolute favorite ground vehicle of the GAR! And I'm going to modify the units I plan to repaint. The custom IFT-X from FialaFernbrugg is one of my favorite custom projects. I really look up to him and his amazing skills. Make sure to check out his thread by following the link at the end of this post and please let him know what you think about his projects.

I'll be very happy if my repaint of the IFT-X looks like this one from Jan here. I'm sure it'll look awesome with modifications added and more realistic cannons. I leave this custom as it is. Got enough used Republic Fighter Tanks to turn into customs. So stay tuned for those and enjoy this one here for now:

I thought they’re worth sharing. I know the artist who applied the details and weathered them. I’m going to post the fifth vehicle from him tonight . And don’t worry, I’ll post more of my own customs, soon again.

So this tank was not repainted completely. It was just dry-brushed with metal cote email colors (iron/steel) by Revell, humbrol, Tamiya etc. and the visors were repainted in a dark metal shade and red (shiny).
I really like how the original brown shines through and makes it look like bronze, now. I think this another well done project. Makes me want to continue working on my 2nd version of the Corporate Alliance Tank Droid...
What do you think?

@jkno: Thank you very much for your comment! Jan is reading and he is glad to read all the positive feedback his work receives! I tell you, he is a true artist in painting and graphic design!
He showed me some pics he took and edited - they look incredible. Maybe he'll share some of them on here, too!

I like this sight! Jan's version is not a complete repaint like mine, but he made Hasbro's original product look excellent in an entire different way.
I also tried to paste some words in Aurebesh this time. I used the Aurebesh translator online, but my Microsoft Office 2007 programs translate it back into letters when I copy them...are they just too old and in need for an update, or how do you include Aurebesh in your pictures?

I also updated the entry of Jan's Swamp Speeder:

WOW
You have created the ultimate NR-N99. Don't get me wrong Jan's NR-N looks really good but your masterpiece looks so much better.
The drybrushed paint job, the new weapons and the weathering looks super realistic.
The swamp mini dio is another wonderful creation and Jan did a great job on the Swamp Speeder.

Tamer: Almost a year has passed by now, but now I got some more time to add to my open topics. Thanks for sharing by comparison shots back then, Shawn!

FialaFernbrugg: I was very pleased when I read your comment back then and it's always nice to come back here and read it, again! Well, I repainted the NR-N99 completely whereas Jan gave it a weathering with some scratches. I think it's hard to compare both to each other because both are two completely different projects/techniques. Thank you for the flowers, though. I'm glad you like them! I'm curious how good I can mess with my Swamp Speeder once I start repainting it.
Love that vehicle...

So it's time for an update now!

So almost a year has passed by now and I actually wanted to share more content on this topic when I'm completely done with my latest project. You can still expect some work-in-progress pics though ;) And you can also help me decide which of the following vehicles you want me do first! Your support is always appreciated.

I started working on my second version of the NR-N99 Persuader-Class Tank Droid last year. This time around I aimed for the exact blue metallic color as seen in Revenge of the Sith and official reference images. The curb chain was painted a few weeks ago. I used humbrol 27004 to paint them.

Droid Carrier

Ever since Episode I came out I found those droid transporters and carriers cool! I was six years old when TPM was released and my friends had the LEGO Naboo Fighter and the Droid Carrier. Some of the very first LEGO Star Wars sets that were ever released.
So since then LEGO have given us four Droid Carriers! And Hasbro? NONE!
At least we got the MTT as Large Transport in 2012. LEGO has released three MTTs so far...
That's why I'd like to build a Droid Carrier myself completely from scratch.

BARC Speeder

When I tidied up the basement today I found a box with vehicles I found on ebay at the beginning of the year. And I discovered that I have collected 6 BARC Speeders so far to modify and repaint.

AT-RT

The All-Terrain-Recon-Transport has been on my list for quite a while. The feet have been modified and I might cut off even more of the body.

Jawa Transport Crawler

So when I found this tank on ebay last week I immediately had to think of the Sandcrawler and some other smaller vehicles of the Jawas. LEGO have released quite a few "unofficial" vehicles and transporters for those little people. So for 15€ shipped I bought this tank and actually want to give it a crane arm.

I'm really looking forward to the NR-N99 finished.
The AMTRAC is a interesting choice for a Jawa vehicle but it will take a lot of work to fit it into the SW universe.

NR-N99 Droid Enforcer - modified and repainted - Version 2

Starchaser: Saw your early comment before my third post ;) I was very happy you checked it out! Wanted to complete the post before replying to the comment(s). Got a little late again so my writing wasn't good anymore…;) Thank you for your compliment! I'm happily surprised that this tank is one of your favorites, too! Yeah, there are people out there who collect and know SO much reference material (like JD) - so I feel like I know nothing about Star Wars actually - especially about the OT!
But I do collect quite a lot of references before I begin with a project. Even though it takes me longer (read: forever) to finish it...in this case it took me extra Long because one antenna was broken. All vehicles I use for customs are used and sometimes damaged. Had to figure out a way how to replace the parts. I'm Pretty happy how it turned out.
And indeed, I'm enjoying this strange situation a lot!

JDeck: Thank you so much, JD! I'm pretty happy how it turned out, too. The long time (feels like two eternities) it took to finish Paid off. I think it does look like the version of the battle of Kashyyyk this time around.

Starchaser: Thank you so much! I compared different paints and mixed some especially to finally achieve this blue metallic color. It's dry-brushed completely. Will add all paints I used later. I used the sunny weather to highlight the metal effects. It's just the way it is that colors look best in the daylight...

Tamer: Thank you, the feedback of all of you is the reason why I take the time to go into such detail. It's the best Thing About this hobby and a hell of a lot of fun! Jup, I think we all have empty pens populating our kitchen's drawers. It might be worth to get them out and take them apart ;)

FialaFernbrugg: Thank you, Sir! Thanks for your advice, too! The inside edges will be painted as you wish - I admit I hurried a bit at the end because I wanted to get it done. The next version is already in the works for some more paint variation >:D

Tamer: Hey, that's great news! Thanks for letting me know - I didn't see that coming. I so need to watch the latest Episodes of the final Season. Hope they'll finish some more arcs though - this can't be the end of the show as a whole...can it?

Miichico: Thanks so much for checking in! Your Feedback means a lot! I mean you haven't posted on here in 5 years - so to me that's some special return of yours! Yes, I tried my best to capture the design as seen on Kashyyyk in ROTS this time. When I take it apart next time, I'll also paint the inside - FialaFernbrugg gave this advice to me. I wanted to get it done and might've hurried a bit in the final steps - I admit :D

Thanks for your feedback guys! It really means a lot to me & makes all the work of sharing my stuff worth the effort!

Sorry for my late reply gentlemen. I’ve read your comments several times by now, but was lazy to login and hit my keyboard.

Starchaser: Thank you so much for returning to my topics and leaving your thoughts, mate! To me that’s what’s all about to share my slow progress on here. So I’m glad you guys have the endurance to follow my stuff! When I finished the second repaint, I decided to assign the first one to Geonosis. Part of the reason is that I also don’t really get rid of the sand the tank caught on a photo setup. lol I guess...
I prefer to use damaged vehicles for my custom projects. The damage to this one adds to the state the CIS was in towards the end of the Clone Wars. Different battles leave different scars. I might do a third version of the NR-N99 as I bought 4 more used ones to customize.
Again, thank you for all your nice words.

Larifari: Thanks a ton man! It’s quite an honor to hear that from a master of modification, adding articulation and detail.

It is unbelievable how much better your custom Tank Droids look compared to the original Hasbro model.
Excellent work.

Mos-Eisley-Customz: Thank you so much, bud! Thanks for asking! I use paints by humbrol, Revell and Citadel. But in a recent video on YouTube I learned that vallejo's acrylic paints are considered the best metal paints:

I showed how I painted the NR-N99 Tank Droid (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=10165.msg197226#msg197226) and my first Destroyer Droid (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=10186.msg200381#msg200381) using the dry-brush technique.

Tamer: Thank you for the fp!

FialaFernbrugg: Thanks bud! Yeah, didn't know anybody who repainted Hasbro's version completely before I did. There are a few cool versions of ERTL/AMT's model though. I'm glad you like them, I'm also quite pleased with how they turned out. Hasbro did a great job on the mold itself. The model got some great details which really come to life when dry-brushed. Don't know if I have a third one to customize. This vehicle has increased in value quite a bit since I got my last damaged one years ago. Always use incomplete or damaged vehicles for my customs. Might get them out for a picture all together. I think I have 3 unpainted ones, but one complete unit would be enough for me to keep. Man, it's so time to finally customize my first IFT-X...

Rebel Cargo Carrier*

The Rebel Troop Cart, also known as Rebel Troop Carrier or flight crew shuttle, was a repulsorlift vehicle used by the Alliance to carry troops into battle. Each transport could carry up to six human-sized individuals. In addition these vehicles were used for transporting personnel within Rebel bases.

During the evacuation of Echo Base in 3 ABY, Rebel transport ships were loaded using these troop carriers. A personnel carrier of this model brought the Rebel strike force to the captured Lambda-class T-4a shuttle Tydirium inside the main hangar of Home One, prior to the Battle of Endor.

* I decided to call this vehicle Rebel Cargo Carrier instead of Rebel Troop Cart because it's much bigger and has no seats.

Ever since I got this model by Wizards of the Coast, I wanted to build it in 1/18 scale. The Rebels deserve some ground vehicles, too, don't you think? The model for the Miniatures game is in 1/54 scale and it's technically made by Hasbro. But I doubt that Hasbro will ever give this vehicle to us for The Vintage Collection. So I decided to make my own over the Christmas days.
First step is measuring the model and transfer all dimensions into 1/18 scale. I can already see the finished prototype in front of me. I decided to build my first one with cardboard before I use much more expensive polystyrene sheets.
Hopefully Hasbro will actually give us the Rebel Troop Cart mentioned above. I'm also going to build this smaller version, but for now I need a transport vehicle for Echo Base!
I hope you have fun following along my first scratch build of a Star Wars vehicle for 3.75" action figures!

I was playing with different cargo according to the estimated dimensions. And fortunately two of those Rebel personnel carriers will fit on this transporter.

This cannon is just a little too big, but I suppose it would be too heavy for such a vehicle anyways...so I stick to the measured dimensions.

The base plate is already cut and I cannot wait to build the other 4 parts!

Thanks Starchaser! I'm absolutely hyped for this project and want to finish it as soon as possible. I got an aluminum profile plate at my local building supplies store today.
It was 17.29€ which is rather costly for what it is, but I've waited long enough to finally get one of those.
Dimensions are 50 x 25 cm for .7 mm aluminum. I might make a silicone mold of it for future projects...

I think it'll look good on the loading space.

Wow Phillip, I am off the interwebs a couple of days and see you have gotten started on a great project.

Just awesome! Off to share this on the front pages.

Looks promising!
Bear in mind the one in the film has a driver's seat.

binarysunset79: Thank you so much for the reminder. The model of WOTC by Hasbro from 2007 doesn't come with a seat - probably for cost cutting reasons. I'll add one anyways.

I also found some neat reference material on the STAR WARS website:

Cannot wait to start working on the Rebel Troop Transport, too!

Nice work. Hasbro may not touch it but I've been making this kit (along with many many more) for almost 10 years now. Check out www.holeinthegroundpro.com/dioramas.html

Thanks for following the progress on this project! I fell in love with cardboard while working on the first one. The inlet of a Class II vehicle of the SOTDS line had the perfect thickness of 1 mm.
I think it's from the packaging of a Swamp Speeder. So it's technically from Hasbro. Does that count?  ::)

Thanks, Raylen! I am aware of your amazing projects! When I come to the U.S. next time, I will buy quite a few items from you. I'm a big fan of the designs you offer, it's just that shipping to Germany is quite expensive. For now I need a cargo transporter for my Rebel Troops. The Troop cart is on my list as well. Thanks for the reminder.

Very impressive! I can't imagine working with anything cardboard after discovering polystyrene. How do you get it to behave and cut so well?
