Title: Star Wars Vintage Collection 2010
Post by: Clonehead on January 28, 2010, 11:17:52 AM
We have heard for a little while now that a new line of figures called the "Vintage Collection" will be introduced this year and the good folks at jedinews.co.uk have been given the first pics of 4 new figures from this line that is said to be hitting shelves in August. What better way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back than the release of these new sculpt figures.

Thank you, Jedinews, for these shots.

Bespin Luke

Hoth Leia

Dengar

General Veers

All of these look great to me but as I was real close to picking up a comic pack Dengar to round out my collection of ESB bounty hunters, I will definitely be waiting for the new Dengar fig. And that Veers, now that's what I am talking about! I may have to pick up multiples of him, for me and Tamer.LOL

I am eargery awaiting more Vintage re-releases,   I love the retro look seeing those cards on the pegs brings back good memories.  I would love to see all the old card designs reissued. However I woul;d like to see more "new Old figs" before rehashes, IE bespin Luke,   Yes the first vintage re-relase stunk but  more "new" old figs   before duplicates,  Hopefully they will put it on the alternate pic card   :)

I'm hoping to cut back on spending for the majority of this year. I've gone nuts these past few weeks ordering tons of Legacy & Clone Wars figures online.
If this is the way things are gonna be, I'll be able to cut back dramatically. I'm only interested in Dengar & Veers. So if Hasbro can churn out a wave with 2 figures I like & 2 that I dislike, it should save me a wad of cash this year!

Thanks for the fp news story Clint so I could find this quick like. Wow. Just wow. They finally got a good face sculpt of Luke! That Veers looks sweet although I think the Saga 2 face sculpt was more realistic, but I do like it too. Wow, I like all of these! Anyone notice we don't see any armored forms? Yet? I bet we will see a few more. I hope all of em are TESB!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!  Man, I've been waiting for a new Bespin Luke since that VSTC atrocity a couple years back.   This one looks to be a marked improvement.

All four  look really cool!

I want the four but I am a little disappointed with Hasbro why couldn't they have done this when they released the original Bespin Luke and General Veers, wasn't it only a couple of years ago we got these 2, so I am a little miffed at that part of the news.

However what makes up for it is we are getting a new Dengar and Hoth Leia so I am happy.

Instead of the Bespin Luke and General Veers - they could have done Bespin Han Solo and Captain Piett.

Thats not veers, its definitely a generic AT-AT Commander. The rank badge is a commander badge and the face sculpt is not of Veers (The SAGA version was very well sculpted).

The sad thing is that they'll probably be double the price of a regular figure, and the only one I have even the slightest interest in is Veers.  And that's only so he can command my new BAT-AT when it hits.

They all look great and have a lot of customizing potential.
I hope that they won't be too expensive, though.

Meh, I would have been more interested to see the new style cardbacks than the actual figs.

These 4 strike me as typical TLC swag...great articulation and detailing, but the sculpts are an abomination. Nice Popeye arms on the Veers. None of them look remotely like the characters from the films, IMO.

Where are all the pics of new Clone Wars merch for 2010?

I too would have like to have seen the cardbacks, but we know toyfair will be when the real info. hits. I did notice it was an at-at commander and not labeled as Veers. I too wonder about the flair on the forearms giving him a popeye look. I am sure he will look good carded and remember Devin can fix anything Hasbro messes up as far as articulation services! As for the faces, I thought the same thing about Leia, but I have seen so many screwed up Lukes that this seemed to be an improvement over previous versions.

The last Bespin Luke's head sculpt looked more like the kid from The Sixth Sense.  Plus, that figure was just way too tall.  This face looks better even if it's not a dead on likeness.  Not sure if the scale has been corrected; but I'm hoping.

it'll be interesting if the rumours of a new $9.99 and £9.99 figure price point are true

These figures look  soooooooooooooooooooo freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Though, they are just prototypes, will Luke and Leia have ankle joints? How many figures, per wave?  Man, Toy Fair seems sooooooo far away in a galaxy. "Sigh" :'( Anyone  have a time machine?

That last wave of vintage cardbacks was just just that one wave of what six figures or something like that? Are we sure all legacy will be the vintage style? I am thinking with the way they are packaging legacy vehicles in the Rex style CW (blue style we have seen) that perhaps Legacy will just get these same style cards. I hope I am wrong and we get all vintage cardbacks with Legacy, but I ain't getting my hopes too high. Toyfair is such a long wait this year. Needless to say I am hoping for more than one TESB wave since its the 30th anniversary.

If these are going to the 9.99 dollar mark, then I can see more buyers leaving the hobby, it's getting stupid price wise, I can't see any kid being able to afford a figure a moth, unless they have rich parents.

And I can't see collectors being happy with that price either, there was an uproar last year, this I think will put the nail in the coffin.

Guys, correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the last VTSC figures that price? The vintage figures in the clamshell that you sent in for the George Stormy?
Title: Re: Star Wars Vintage Collection 2010
Post by: Clonehead on January 29, 2010, 07:34:18 PM
They were, yes. I was under the impression that these would just reside on a classic looking card with no clamshell. We don't need no stinking price hikes!

Read a Q&A answer at Yakface.com today that states these new vintage Collection figures will not be packaged in a clamshell and that the MSRP is to be $7.99

Post by: Mike Cypress on February 03, 2010, 08:17:07 PM
Yeah, I just read that too. $7.99. I would have to say that is the best looking Luke in years. I hope that is not the final version of Leia though. I just hope they change the plastic they are using for the heads because the last couple of years the figures heads have been shiny looking, or plastic looking.

This post made me laugh...oh and it's so true.  Terrible Luke head on that Yavin Luke.  Cypress is right droidbait, this Bespin Luke is not utilizing the Yavin Luke sculpt.   :)  I might have actually cried if that were true.   ;)

From my readings at JTA, I understand that there are to be 24 figures released in 4 waves in this line in 2010. Will they all be new sculpts or are there some repacks in there? My guess is that we will find out when TOYFAIR folls around in less than a week.

At that price, I'll get me some figures.

Clint, are you going to be our resident Toyfair newscaster?

I may be down south and away from my pc but I am watching intently and am highly anticipating new news from the toy fair from ft meyers fla. I anticipate loads of pics of the new walker and of the new vintage line will be revealed and if the latest legacy figures are any indication, all of the new vintage line figures should be super arty. My thinking is that since in Hasbro's eyes, the clone wars line is more kid oriented, they don't need to be as super arty. It's too bad really, as from my viewpoint, I see as many adult collectors of the clone wars line out there as of the legacy lines.

Bring on that toy fair!! What a birthday present it will be to get some mouthwaterimg pics and info about great new star wars stuff.

im pumped!! but at the same time im not.... with the lack of all things star wars last year and even now, i do not want to get excited, hasbro has burnt me too much in the last 12 months with new prices hikes, non availability of Ships, battle packs, comic packs and i would just like to have a new wave of figures that dosent have Bail and his misses in it!!

Yeah, all the Peg warmers end up becoming "Saga Legends." They should be called "Saga Recycles."
With the cancellation of the comic packs, I'm worried about not finding the one's I want. I have yet to see Darth Krayt/Sigel Dare. I would give 20 Bail Organas for just one of those! I hope these new Vintage figures are all new sculpts and not recycled stuff. I really hope they don't try to fool us on that. Guess we'll find out this weekend.

When I said cancelled I meant that they have one more wave coming to Wal-Mart in the spring. But the latest waves I have hardly seen at all. I seen one Kyle Katarn/Vong  comic pack but unfortunately didn't have the money that day. They say it's because the comic packs aren't cost effective and poor lack of sales. 1 way to fix that would be to make 2 figures people need. I notice alot of them have 1 re-release and 1 new. Or one new and one updated. Some updates are needed but I really wish they would put out every character that was in the movies first before they worry about redoing the ones that don't need to be done. Example:the rancor keeper fat dude. He didn't need a resculpt.
