The versatility of having opposing sides of the piece show different terrain is a great approach - very Hollywood!  I've got some styro block-shapes that are slated for that style treatment so that a simple 180* rotation gives a whole different feel.  Well-done!

Tankster - yeah!  Your instructions were SUPER easy to follow, which is why I went with your style.  This is a "first-run prototype"and hopefully the next generation will be even awesomer*.

*I know "awesomer" isn't a word, but I'm working on it.

Re: Darth Optimus' Scenery - Completed dio! 09/29!
« Reply #21 on: September 29, 2012, 08:57:18 PM »
Here is the completed dio I built from Tankster's tutorial.  It is two-sided, and the center is removeable and swappable for several different looks.  Snake Eyes is modeling scale today, as my usual scale model (Trooper Earl) is away on vacation.

Set One is meant to represent an urban area.  The flooring is perhaps a street or alleyway, and there are several bombed-out potholes.

Option A) Full concrete wall:

Option B) Chain link fencing:

Option C) Shielded door:

Option D) Nothing:

Set Two is meant to represent an outdoors setting.  This side has three walls, as oppossed to the single backdrop of Set One.  It has the usual rear wall, as well as a differently colored wall to the left, meant to represent another building.  A boarded-up door is present, as well as two fenced-in damaged wall sections.  The third wall is a dilapitated chainlink fence.  The ground is a mixture of "gravel" and "rock" with sparse "weeds" growing in places.  Treacherous footing for sure.

Option A) Concrete wall.  The change in colors can signify a different building:

Option B) Shielded door:

Option C) Chainlink fence:

Option D) Nothing:

Finally, a couple of action shots.

Snake Eyes kicking in the boards on the door.  He'd yell "FREEZE!  EVERYBODY ON THE GROUND!" but, you know.  Anyhow:

Climbing the fence:

Crawling under the shielded door:

This was my very first dio, and my ten year-old son helped.  We had a blast.  Tankster's tutorial was very easy to follow.

What a cool diorama. You can pretty much do anything you want. Back on the front page.

Here is a mini-dio I did of a section of a Borg Cube.  It is built in a box a little wider and taller than my hand and assorted greeblies.  This was super quick and loads of fun to make.  I may tear it down are remake it on a large scale to house all my Borg customs.  You have seen those, right?  If not, go now.  I'll wait...

Those are awesome, right?  Thanks!  Anywho, on to the mini-dio!

Lighting effects:

Ambient room lighting:

Stage lights on!

Behind the scenes peak.  Yup, those are little flashlights being utilize to illuminate the dio.

Thanks for tuning in!
